Self Study Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Self Study" presents a unique set of challenges, primarily
because the very nature of the topic demands a profound introspection and a comprehensive
understanding of one's own learning journey. Unlike other essay topics that might rely on
external sources and established theories, a self-study essay requires the writer to delve into
personal experiences, motivations, and the evolution of their own educational pursuits.
The initial hurdle lies in navigating the fine line between self-reflection and self-indulgence.
Striking the right balance between providing insights into personal growth and avoiding
excessive self-promotion is crucial. It necessitates a deep level of honesty and self-awareness,
which can be both challenging and, at times, uncomfortable.
Moreover, the structure of the essay becomes intricate as it has to narrate a coherent and
compelling narrative of one's educational journey. From identifying pivotal learning moments to
elucidating the impact of various study techniques, the writer must seamlessly weave together
disparate elements into a cohesive storyline. This requires careful thought and meticulous
planning to ensure the essay remains focused and does not deviate into unrelated tangents.
Additionally, maintaining objectivity while discussing personal achievements and shortcomings
poses another layer of complexity. It is imperative to present a fair and unbiased account of the
learning process, acknowledging both successes and failures without succumbing to the
temptation of self-aggrandizement or excessive self-criticism.
Furthermore, finding the right tone is a perpetual challenge. Striking a balance between humility
and confidence is essential to engage the reader without coming across as either boastful or
overly self-deprecating.
In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on self-study demands a unique set of skills – a
delicate blend of introspection, storytelling prowess, and the ability to articulate personal
experiences in a relatable and insightful manner. It requires a willingness to confront one's own
learning journey with honesty and openness, making it a challenging yet rewarding task for any
writer.
And for those seeking assistance in navigating such intricate topics or any other academic
writing challenges, a variety of resources are available. Similar essays and much more can be

insights and assistance in crafting well-structured and compelling essays.

The US Securities And Exchange Commission (SEC)
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that was established in 1934 by
the United States Congress as an independent, quasi judicial regulatory agency
following the Crash of 1929. The SEC is a federal agency that serves the purpose
of administrating and enforcing when necessary federal securities laws that were
put in place to protect investors. A further look at what the SEC is and how it is
structured will be explained in this paper. Also a look at the federal laws that the
SEC administers and enforces will be divulged to further emphasize what the SEC
is as well as what it does. The distinctive reason the SEC was created was to regulate
the stock market and prevent corporate abuses relating to the offering and sale of
securities... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first of the major laws is the Securities Act of 1933 of which there are two
objectives; it requires that investors receive financial and other significant
information concerning securities being offered for public sale and prohibits deceit,
misrepresentations, and other fraud in the sale of securities (U.S., 2013). The second
is the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 this act gives the SEC broad authority
over the securities aspects including the regulation, overseeing and registering of
clearing agents, transfer agents and brokerage firms of which this may include SROs
or self regulatory organizations. The third is the Public Utility Holding Company Act
of 1935 which regulates retail distribution of natural or manufactured gas and electric
utility. The fourth is the Trust Indenture Act of 1939 which applies to when notes,
bonds or debentures are offered for public sale this act applies to those debt securities.
The fifth act is the Investment Company Act of 1940 regulates the organization of
companies, including mutual funds, that engage primarily in investing, reinvesting,
and trading in securities, and whose own securities are offered to the investing public
(U.S., 2013). The final law is the Investment Advisors Act of 1940 requires that firms
or sole practitioners compensated for advising others about securities investments

Why Use An Ergonomic Keyboard
Why Use an Ergonomic Keyboard
The word ergonomic is probably a word you have heard severally from various
quarters and the technology world is perhaps the main center of focus as far as this
is concerned. Looking at computers which are our main concern, you will find that
the aspect of an ergonomic keyboard has been incorporated too.
Essentially, an ergonomic keyboard is supposed to make you comfortable as you
work as it draws away muscle strain and other repetitive strain injuries (RSI). In
most cases, you will find that this variety of keyboards are V shaped and this is
meant to enable both hands to type at an angle, which is assumed to be the most
natural way to do so for every person.
As usual, most of the times, when working on or with your keyboard, speed,
comfort and efficiency are of the essence. It is said that using one of these will help
you work efficiently and faster over a long period of time since your hands and
wrists will be much more comfortable and that injuries such as Carpal Tunnel
Syndrome will be prevented in the long run. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While you are at it, understand that there are several varieties of these you are set to
find out there such as the arch keyboard that ensures keys are close to your fingers
and the split variety that is meant to make your wrists assume a more natural position
as you type.
Other varieties include the contoured keyboard and handheld keyboard. But what
really do you need to consider as you choose what ergonomic keyboard is best for
you, given the varieties available? I would say design features. This is what helps
you determine what is best for you and comfortable as
The Real Story Of Ah Q
Our readings and class discussions have inspired me to look at the roles that art and
literature play in contemporary East Asia as a means of inspiring cultural change and
transforming traditional ideas and ideologies. We read the thought provoking works
of Lu Xun and Richard Kim. We also discussed the contemporary Chinese artist Ai
Weiwei motivating me to watch a documentary on his life and artwork. These authors
and artists along with the woodblock artists Li Hua and Hu Yichuan did more than
just capture a moment in time, their artwork and literature was created to question the
status quo, provoke new ideas and challenge governmental and societal ideologies.
I read The Real Story of Ah Q by Lu Xun. This was not one of my assigned
readings, but when the story was summarized in class, I instantly found a connection
between this story and the American play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Reading
the story Ah Q drew so parallels and common themes between these two fictional
works. The Crucible is a dramatized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in
Massachusetts, but Miller wrote this as an allegory for McCarthyism in the 1950 s.
Ah Q and John Proctor both consider themselves good and worthy men, but both
are flawed in many ways. John Proctor has been accused adultery and is sentenced
to death unless he confesses his crime. He refuses to sign his name on the
confession since it will be posted on the Church door for everyone to see and
witness. By writing his name

The 1960 Chilean Earthquake and 2010 Haiti Earthquake
Earth is a life giving planet. It is also true that it s never at rest. It is in a daily
course of revolution and rotation, making us experience not only night and day, but
also seasons. This planet goes through many changes that brings wonders, but also
catastrophes. These forces of nature leave damages and deaths all over the world.
One of these cataclysm is earthquakes. What exactly is an earthquake? An earthquake
is the ground shaking caused by the sudden movement of one block or rock slipping
past another along the faults (Lutgens, Tarbuck). There is a process that causes an
earthquake to happen. First it involves the heating, followed by ... Show more content

To begin with, what exactly caused both of these quakes? Well, a cycle is
happening above as well as beneath the surface. This cycle involves the movement
of tectonic plates. Both of these earthquakes were caused by the movement of two
very different plates. The Chilean earthquake was caused by the Nazca Plate sub
ducting under the South American plate. This means these two plates collided
along the plate boundaries, which made one slip underneath the other. The bottom
plate slowly pushed the top plate, and was then released causing the earthquake.
The magnitude for the quake was of 9.5, being the largest earthquake ever
recorded. The Haiti quake was caused by a lateral strike slip motion. There was a
separation in the boundary region of the Caribbean Plate and North American
Plate. As the plates glided past one another, strain and compression was building
along the fault. There was a release of energy that resulted in ground shaking. The
Haiti earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0. The number of deaths and damages is the
biggest difference between the two. You would think that the largest earthquake
ever recorded would also have tragic numbers, but it didn t. The Chile earthquake
reached an approximate number of about 2,000 deaths and. While the Haiti
earthquake had an estimate of 316,000 killed or missing. How is this possible?
Well, this is because Chile has strict building codes that help buildings resist. In
comparison to Haiti which is a very poor country. 86% of people were living in slum
conditions and tightly packed, poorly build, concrete

Seven Year s War Paper
Seven Year s War Paper
Many factors led to the Seven Years War. Along with these factors, I think that the
huge differences in cultural backgrounds and points of view between the various
countries involves also contributed to the Seven Years War. In the seventeenth
century, the colonies were becoming over run by various, very different immigrant
groups (Davidson, 2006). Famine, warfare, and religious persecution forced most of
the non English groups to leave from their homes in Europe and go to the American
colonies. This immigration quickly increased the population and made the colonies
more diverse. The diversity caused the colonies to be primarily divided along cultural
lines. The colonist divided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conflict between the superpowers for the control of the continent began the
Seven Years War. Most people put the beginning of the Seven Years War in the
1754, but it actually occurred from 1756 to 1763. In the Seven Years War, France,
and Great Britain struggled to control eastern North America (Davidson, 2006). The
area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was
contested, as both nations claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War,
their colonial holdings doubled in size and they gained control of North America.
Conflicts over trading rights and the control of the Ohio country was the primary
cause of the French and the Indian War (Davidson, 2006). British control over North
America and the Seven Years War led to many issues and problems as the British
struggled to maintain their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these
struggles, they lost position as highest colonial power for the next generation, their
position would not be restored until French Revolution of the 1970 s. Since each
colony had to run its own military campaigns for many years, the colonies were
isolated from each other. While the Seven Years War did determine who would
control the North America continent, conflicts caused by the war would still
continue. The British Parliament was determined that the
American Literature And Performance Art
Feminism, in Canada, was present as early as the nineteenth century, with the first
wave of the feminist movement, and his been continually explored through Canadian
literature and performance art as a result, ever since. Audrey Thomas, a reputable and
well recognized Canadian author, has been exploring feminismand the lives of
women in her writing since the beginning of her career (Thompson, 2007). In her
short story, Bear Country, Thomas explores the impact of violence towards women,
on feminist performing artist, Wilma. As is frequently made the subject of feminist
discussion, the survival and well being of women in today s male dominated society
depends highly on remaining ignorant to the sexism and violence directed towards
them. This will be further explored through examining the conflicts, motivations,
and actions of Thomas protagonist Wilma, in her popular short story Bear Country.
To begin, Wilma is a young British Columbian and performance artist attempting to
learn french due to a recent relocation to Montreal. Wilma is fascinated by playing
with both french and english in her work, using it as a method of communicating
the impact of sexism and misogyny on women. The main conflict of the story
begins, however, when Wilma must take a french class at l Г‰cole Polytechnique
recently after the massacre on December 6th, 1989, in which 14 women were killed
(Bindel, 2012). Understandably, Wilma is afraid of taking a class in the same
location in which other women were

The emergency services need to be called, and given all the correct information, such
as, if you are with the casualty now, how many people are involved, the patients age

* Follow instructions from emergency services, and other members of staff.
Emergency services may give instructions over the phone, such as move child into

* Inform parent/guardian.
Every child should have a record with emergency contact details of parents,
grandparents, carers or any other relative. They should be people that are easy to

The person in charge will contact this person as soon as possible and tell that
person what has happened, and where the child is being taken, if the child has to be
taken to hospital before the parents arrive, the parents need to be informed on where
the child is, someone that the child knows well should be at the

A Psychological Reading of A Rose for Emily Essay
Freud and Faulkner A psychoanalytic Reading of A Rose for Emily Abstract
Undoubtedly Sigmund Freud is the father of psychoanalysis. He was an influential
thinker of the early twentieth century who elaborated the theory that the mind is a
complex energy system and the structural investigation of which is the proper
province of psychology. Freud articulated and refined the concepts of the
unconscious, infantile sexuality and repression and he proposed tripartite account of
the mind s structure, all as part of a radically new conceptual and therapeutic frame of
reference for the understanding of human psychological development and the
treatment of abnormal mental conditions. Freudian approach can be... Show more

in this stage where girls develop penis envy , the solution is to obtain the father s
penis (sexual desire) through identifying with the mother and mimicking her in
order to replace her. Emily fails to resolve the conflict in the phallic stage because
she was unable to identify with the same sex parent. We can only hypothesize that
the mother may have abandoned her or died during this time so that there was no
same sex parent to identify with. Failure to identify with the mother led to the
failure of successfully obtaining the penis, and the failure to understand through
psychosexual competition with the mother for the father, that all women do not
and cannot possess a penis. Emily then begets a nonnegotiable necessity to have a
phallic figure around in her life, and if she can t, a possession of the penis herself.
Emily s submissiveness to letting her father control her romantic life can be
interpreted as the need to have her father s phallic figure around but when her
father died, the phallic figure was castrated from her. The realization of the
temporality of this kind of possession may have triggered the need to permanently
have control over the possession of the penis in the form of a phallic figure. This
may explain the poisoning of Homer, a big, dark, ready man, with a big voice , in
the ultimate attempt to obtain the penis and finally, however perversely, resolve the
penis envy. Emily herself is transformed and tragically into somewhat of a
My Personal Strengths
Personal strengths are abilities, talents, and characteristics that God has given us.
Psalm 139:14 says, I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your
works are wonderful, I know that full well . God has given everyone amazing
characteristics that most people would describe them as. Even though most people
don t like talking about their own positive characteristics, we all have amazing gifts
and talents. When I was talking to my friends, they gave me three characteristics
that they see in me. The abilities that God has blessed me with are, a strong athlete,
a good friend, and servant hearted. I have thought about what these mean to me and
I am going to describe each of them. To begin, most people say that I am a strong
athlete. I loveto run and do gymnastics. I have been doing gymnastics for a very
long time. Even though I am not competing this season, I am working hard to get
my level 8 skills. One of these skills is a roundoff backhandspring full. Also,
without a doubt, I love to run. I have been trying to run almost every day to keep up
my speed. I am only good at long distance running, but I love to run any distance.
Even though most people say running is tiring and not very fun, I enjoy it a lot. I
will finally get to run cross country this year, which I am very excited about! I even
have been practicing soccer to see if I like it. Some of my athletic interests are
gymnastics, soccer, and running. Additionally, I have often been described as a good
Film Analysis Of Bicycle Thieves
Bicycle Thieves, set in economically devastated post war Italy, where thieves
burgeon. Vittorio de Sica emphasized the daily struggles of ordinary people as a
key concern of Italian neo realist directors, who wished to portray reality in a more
faithful manner than the era s dominant escapist studio product, whether it came
from Hollywood or Italy s own Cinecitta (Steffen). Most directors during that time,
portrayed the plight of the everyday Italian with rose tinted glasses, distracting
from the real issues that they were facing every day. De Sica set out to show the
opposite while in Europe, the searching self examination provoked by a devastating
war and the revelation of Hitler s death camps implicated an entire culture,
includ[ed] a cinema of complicity and vain distraction, typified in Italy by the white
telephone farces and historical super spectacles of the 1930 s (Cheshire). Both
movies though from very different time periods set out to reveal the flaws in the
system against everyday people. There Will Be Blood had no real social impact in
American cinematography, but Bicycle Thieves, on the other hand, set a reminder
that a whole world exists outside the movie theater, to which our conscience and
humanity requires us to pay attention.
There Will Be Blood is an epic film depicting vast landscapes in very thematic shots,
while Bicycle Thieves is a budget film shot in real locations with untrained actors.
Bicycle Thieves presents Antonio as a good man which
Ethical Ethics Of The Ethical System Essay
Do you think people believe that ethical systems are important to the world, or do
you believe you have to actually learn about it to understand? The main focus of
this paper is to better understand the ethical system. Ethical system is defined as
beliefs of being right or wrong; it can be from religious values or even personal
experiences. The topics I will focus on is teleological, then talk a little about the
differences between deontological and teleological. Secondly, my current ethical
system that best fits me. Third, major influence in my life that pushed me into my
specific ethical system. Fourth, my current career plans, Firth ethical issues
associated with my profession, and lastly, examples of specific ethical dilemmas
that professionals in my career path have to face. Based on the ethical system we
have discussed in class is ethic of care. Teleological mean judges behaviors based
solely on their consequences. According to the lecture, teleologist believes that
cheating; lying, torturing and killing can be moral in some circumstances but not all.
The rightness or integrity of an activity is somehow dictated by the results, which
take after from the demonstration. According to Frankena, a definitive standard of
what is ethically right or wrong is the esteem brought into being. The last assurance
must be founded on the near measure of good delivered or the similar adjust of good
over fiendishness created. In this manner, a demonstration is correct if and just if
Reflection About Apathy
Students line the patterned red seats in the high school auditorium. While the
speaker on stage bellows his gospel of forgiveness, some students halfheartedly nod
along, some stare at their shoes, and some snore. Looking around the chapel from
my seat in the back row, I am overwhelmed with one impression: apathy. This mood
that hung in the room was pervasive, making me feel uncomfortable because I
realized that I felt it too. While I usually enjoy learningfor its own sake, apathy has
not escaped me. Not only does this mindset manifest in my school s chapel services,
but also in the classroom. When students do not care about learning, they either put in
the least amount of effort possible or resort to rote memorization to maintain their
grade. Instead of understanding the material, they glean little knowledge that they can
apply to their lives, making educationrelatively pointless. This thoughtlessness
maddens me because I want to be purposeful in everything that I do. During my
junior year of high school, apathetic students and teachers led me to rediscover the
power I have over my own education. In my physics class, I was miserable: I did not
learn I memorized. Although my teacher had good intentions and a passion for the
subject, he taught us terms and formulas, skirting around fundamentals such as how
these concepts connected to each other. Work equals the applied force times change
in time times cosine of the angle. As I sat in my front row seat and

The History of the Potato
During spring break, I made Irish potato pancakes with my sister. I was inspired to
make this after we played the industrial revolution game and heard about the Irish
potato famine. Also, being March, it was the perfect time to make something Irish.
While making this recipe I learned how to use potatoes to make something more than
boiled or mashed potatoes. I also learned more about the history of potatoes.
The potato was first cultivated in South America. Spanish conquistadors first
encountered the potato when they arrived in Peru in 1532 in search of gold and
gradually began to use potatoes as basic rations aboard their ships. After the arrival of
the potato in Spain, potatoes slowly spread to other European countries

Should Dance be Considered a Sport? After repeatedly being asked over and over
again, So what sport do you play again? I am now completely prepared for all the
confused looks I know that i m going to get when I say, I dance As an individual who
has been dancing for as long as they can remember and has participated in local,
national, and international dance competitions, I am a dancer and dance will
always be my sport. So yes, I guess you could say that i might be a little biased, but
before answering the questions whether dance is a sport, it is important to define
what makes a sport a sport. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a sport is
the participation in activities involving physical skill and regulated by set rules or
customs in which an individual or a team competes against another or others. It is
clear now that dance definitely fulfills all of these requirements. Dance demands the
same physical skills that are required in other sports. Flexibility, strength, and
endurance are key characteristics that most dancers need to posses. As with other
athletes, most dancers are not born with these abilities but must establish them
through practice and repetitive training. Similar to traditional sports practices, dance
rehearsals are extensive and require diligence, dedication, and patience from the
dancers as they will have to repeat exercises and stretches to perfect their technique

A Psychological Viewpoint on Memento
Memento is an American psychological thriller adapted from a short story, Memento
Mori written by James Nolan. The story displays the life of Leonard Shelby. Shelby
has anterograde Amnesia brought about by an injury to his head. He suffered this
injury while confronting two people who attacked his wife at their home in the
middle of the night. Leonard kills one of the attackers during the attack, although the
second one escapes. Due to the injury and resultant amnesia, the last thing Leonard
remembers is his wife dying. He is unable to remember new information after that
day. The movie shows how he devotes his life to finding and killing the second
attacker.

Problem
Shelby, suffers from a rare form of amnesia which makes him incapable of creating
new memories. Any bit of information he learns since his injury must be recorded or
will be quickly forgotten. Due to his memory problem, he would often find himself
lost at places. He d ask himself questions like Why am I here? or What was I
doing? He often made errors in judgment if the information or clues available to
him were incomplete. He was also slightly paranoid; he didn t trust new people and
avoided new situations. This is why he had no social life and only a couple of
people he could trust. Since his condition prevents him from creating new
memories Leonard uses a clever system of Notes, Polaroid photos, and Tattoos to
record clues which may lead him to finding the man who killed his wife. Every
morning he would wake up and the body tattoos will remind him of what happened
and what his mission is. He will use post it notes, polaroid pictures to reconstruct
what he was doing and what he needs to do today. He followed some simple rules

Karel Benz s Impact On The Modern World
Karel Benz was the first person to make the car. The first car was known as the
Motorwagen.
Karel Benz was also the creator of a car company that still exists today. It took a lot
of improvements and redesigning of the car to make it run smoothly and efficiently.
The creation of the car had a huge impact on the modern world.
Karl Benz was born in 1884 in Karlsruhe. His father died due to an accident when
Benz was 2 years old. Even though his father died Benz s mother supported him and
his education.
After a lot of hard work Benz was able to be admitted to the University of Karlsruhe
at the age
15. He graduated in 1864 with a mechanical engineering degree. Karel Benz
patented the first gasoline powered car in 1886. But he was not the original designer

The internal combustion engine is vital to the modern automobile. An internal
combustion engine uses an explosive combustion of fuel to push a piston within a
cylinder. The piston moves to turn a crankshaft that is connected to the car s wheels
through a drive shaft.
Without an engine a car could not move. The internal combustion engine has a long
history of how it was improved and redesigned, without which the car would wouldn t
be able to function.
In 1680 Christiaan Huygens designed an internal combustion engine fueled by
gunpowder. Then in 1826 Samuel Brown altered a steam engine to burn gasoline
and put it on a carriage. Later Jean Joseph Etienne Lenoir patented a double acting,
spark ignition internal combustion engine fueled by coal gas in 1858. Then he
improved the engine so it would run on petroleum and it was attached to a three
wheeled wagon which could travel 50 miles. In 1873 an
American engineer named George Brayton developed a two stroke kerosene engine.
Then in
1876 Nikolaus August Otto improved the two stroke kerosene engine into the four
stroke engine.
Later in 1885 Gottlieb Daimler invented the prototype of the modern gasoline engine.

Comparing American And Chinese Society
American and Chinese society are wide varieties and fascinating. Both Chinese and
Americans have similarities and differences with food and etiquette. For example,
both cultures dine with family. Americans and Chinese share dinner with family and
friends. Another similarity is both cultures have large varieties of foodto choose from
at dinner. For instance they put food on the table and hope it s enough for everyone.
Finally both societies have conversations during meals. In other words they talk about
what happened to them during the day. Food and etiquette are two of many things
that both cultures differ from.
Food is one aspect between Americans and Chinese. For example, Americans have a

Private Schools Vs. Public Schools Essay
In the United States, getting an education is very important. Children spend thirteen
years of their life learning English, history, math, science, and various other subjects
so that they may one day be a productive college student or a working class citizen.
In fact, There are 33,619 private schools in the United States, serving 5.4 million PK
12 students. Private schools account for 25 percent of the nation s schools and enroll
10 percent of all PK 12 students ( Council for American Private Education). Parents
face many issues when deciding which school is right for their child. However, the
factors that determine their choice of a private or public schoolare often the results of
various essentials that closely mirror the parent s ideology in regards to education.
Parents should send their children to a private schoolbecause private schools have
smaller class sizes, the curriculum is more challenging, and the school environment is
much safer than public schools.
Smaller class sizes are a pivotal reason as to why parents should send their children
to private school. Private schools have smaller class sizes, which allow for more
individualized instruction on various subject matters, and they improve student
teacher relationships. For instance, Small classes allow teachers to give students
more individual attention and lighten the teacher s workload, and therefore are
generally considered desirable (Choy 14). Subsequently, by having a smaller class
size, a student
Weightlifting In Greece, Ancient Greeks And Ancient Greece
We have many sports such as baseball, football. and basketball but all of these
sports have one thing in common, they all have another sport within themselves.
Weightlifting is one of the most common used practices in almost every sport. This
practice, weightlifting or in other terms lifting heavy objects. It has been a part of
life since the beginning of time. Even the earliest of human civilizations had
records of some type of weightlifting. The Chinese Zhou Dynasty, Ancient
Egyptians and The Greeks. From these civilizations we have what weightlifting is
today. These civilizations used weightlifting in several different ways. The Chinese
would have recruits do tests of strength to prove that they could prove themselves
useful on the battlefield. One of the main tests was a 400 lb. stone that the recruits
had to lift off of the ground in order to be accepted into their military
ranks.(Basictraining.us) The Egyptians had many sports and activities that they
would do that included Archery, Swimming, chariot racing. They would use bags
to put sand in to lift over their head. The Egyptians use those sand bags to lift over
their heads to build strength. There was no way of knowing how heavy those sand
bags where but from some research the said they heaviest they could have gotten was
me 95 lb. just for the fact of the sack not being able to support the weight of the sand.

Thesis/Central Idea: The three specific things about Zora Neale Hurston that makes
her influential/admirable include being a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance, an
anthropologist, and an American writer regarding folklore.
Introduction

would be against all nature for all the Negroes to be either at the bottom, top, or in
between. We will go where the internal drive carries us like everybody else. It is up
to the individual.
II. (Relevancy Statement) One of the reasons Zora Neale Hurston is an influential
person was because of her works at the time of the Harlem Renaissance. This quote
combines both the reawakening of creativity and the ambitious push for others to put
forth their own creative works.
III. (Credibility Statement) In 1926, Zora and a collection of other young writers
including Langston Hughes and Wallace Thurman produced a literary magazine
called Fire!! This showcased the art of the Harlem Renaissance. Their Eyes Were
Watching God was written by Zora during her field trip to Haiti and is now regarded
as a classic African American feminist text. Their Eyes Were Watching God rejects
assimilating White America s cultural standards, but instead celebrated African
American communities.

Analysis Of To Autumn, It Sifts From Leaden Sieves And...
Red and green and gold and orange dance across crisp autumn sky, moved along on
the currents of a steady breeze. Sunlight filters through leaves that still clinging to
the towering Oak and Maple trees along the dirt trail. Little feet pound the ground,
compressing the leaves and sending up puffs of dirt, as a rabbit hops along
through the underbrush. He startles a flock of birds which take flight and voice
their anger at being disturbed with a chorus of shrill cawing. The little rabbit
continues his journey occasionally pausing to rummage around in the leaves, but
finds nothing to his liking and proceeds with his hopping. A sudden noise makes
him freeze in place. Cautiously, he settles onto his hind legs and his pink nose
along with his ears twitch in search of a clue to what might have caused the
disturbance. Having decided that the danger has passed the rabbit hops up onto a
log which spans a babbling brook. He rests there a moment and allows for the
coolness rising from the water to wash over him. After crossing the stream he stops
at the water s edge lapping at the water with his tiny tongue. Once he has had his fill,
he returns to his burrow nestled among a copse sapling maples, deep within the
forest. The seasons of Autumnand Winter are paid tribute in these three sonnets: To
Autumn, It Sifts From Leaden Sieves, and Fall Song written by John Keats, Emily
Dickinsonand Mary Oliver respectively. Each makes use of eloquent imagery in order
to compose a specific tone;
The Violence Of Campus Security
There ain t no doubt: I love this land, but these horrific campus killings must be
brought to an end. Guns on campus is the definition of risky, giving equal
opportunity of bearing arms to the clinically insane, over the rest of the responsible
student body. Our nation s rise in firearm related deaths, specifically on college
grounds, relates to an unheard cry for help. Over the past couple of years, guns on
campus have resulted in an array of inhumane massacres and news breakings,
stunning Americans worldwide. Guns have created the skyrocketing amount of at
least one hundred and fifty six school shootings in America since 2013 (EveryTown).
These instances could have ultimately been avoided, as our campus security should be

With the school s recent budget drop, the limitation of campus security employment
had struck a high. Only one security officer is hired at a time, with the substantial
perk of being unarmed at all times at the Umpqua campus. This factor contributes to
the numerous cracks in God s gift of education within our beloved country. Studies
have shown that at least sixty three percent of small town colleges are more likely of
experiencing a massive on campus shooting. Take Farmingdale University, for
example: their prestige rating in safety is excellent compared to the recently
endangered Delta State University. A school population peaking five thousand versus
a school that exceeds eight thousand. Which campus would you attempt to wreak
havoc on? In addition to your average Post Traumatic Stress Disorder diagnosed

emerging in the bustling world of today. GunBroker.com, GrabAGun.com, and
GunsAmerica.com are only three of the hundreds of franchises that make obtaining a
weapon in America much simpler than the twentieth century. Although web surfing is
highly ranked in the top five daily activities of a college student, constant gun
exposure is not only to blame by these legal businesses, but greatly influenced by the
gun friendly parents of our American brainiacs.
The Externalities Of Taxation On Capital Gain
The externalities of taxation on capital gain have been a controversial debate among
scholars, economists and policy makers along the timeline of ever changing tax
reforms in the history of the United States. This introduction covers all the possible
externalities that change in marginal tax rate can have on investors incentives and
timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by the government and the
social welfare changes.
The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on
the effect of taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount
since in the United States long term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at
a significantly lower rate than ordinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would
consequently reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies,
which eventually reduces the market activity and causes a welfare loss.
The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When
we only consider the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax
revenue decreases obviously since the same amount of realization is being taxed at a
lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors, positive externalities come in
to play important roles. The first positive externality is due to the unlocking effect
that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore increases the
tax revenue. The other positive externality is that lowering the tax rate on capital
gain would result in an increase in tax revenue due to peopleing pay taxes on higher
value of their assets when realized since the value of existing stocks increases.
The two articles I m comparing in this paper, The Effects of Taxation on the Selling
of Corporate Stock and The realization of Capital Gains by Feldstein, Slemrod, and
Yitzhaki (1980) and Measuring Permanent Responses to Capital Gains Tax Changes
in Panel Data by Burman and Randolph (1994), both primarily focused on the lock in
externality, with Feldstein examining externality on tax revenue as well.

a totally different person. What Caitlyn did with coming out was very brave but
the Arthur Ashe award is for athletes, Bruce was the athlete. There were two others
who were up for the award, an army vet who lost his leg and arm and a young
college basketball player who battled cancer to score in a game and died a few

we can look at the second categorical imperative to treat people as an end rather
than a means. It has been said that Caitlyn Jenner s publicists negotiated ESPN

this is not morally permissible. Caitlyn had fame and money to bribe ESPN and by
doing so took away an opportunity for an army vet and cancer victim who have

Enron, An American Energy Company
Enron Leadership
One of the best examples recently seen relating to bad leadership is what took place
within Enron. Throughout the late 90 s, Enron, an American energy company, was
considered one of the country s most innovative companies; while the company
continued to build power plants and operate gas lines, it became better known for its
unique trading businesses (npr.org, 2014). It can be described as the ideal company
for the dotcom driven stock market boom of the 90s; Enron threw itself head on onto
the internet, and Wall Street loved it, rocketing its stock upward (npr.org, 2014). At
the all time high, Enron was worth $70 billion and its shares traded around $90 each

At the top of this enormous fraud case was Kenneth Lay. The evidence will show the
unethical tactics that took place, as well as how the leaders used these tactics in their
strategy, using their power. Evidence will additionally show the outcome of the
Enron disaster and what could have been done differently.
Unethical Tactics
With a brief overview of Enron given, the unethical tactics that took place amongst
the leadership in Enron is important for discussion. At the head of all the unethical
tactics lay Kenneth Lay, CEO of Enron, who is the most recent and visible cases of
alleged CEO failure to act accountable and responsible (Ferrell Ferrell, 2010).
According to Ferrell and Ferrell (2010), no other high ranking executive has had as
much of an impact on the scrutiny of business ethics in America than Ken Lay,
making Enron the ultimate example of corporate wrongdoing. Of the employees
involved, there were 22 that were indicted or convicted; to show how deep the
wrongdoings went, there were 130 unindicted co conspirators that worked for Ken
Lay (Ferrell Ferrell, 2010). This goes to show the influence, though negative, he had
down the line. Culture plays a big part in organizations, and ethical rule bending was
a part of the midlevel management corporate culture at Enron (Ferrell Ferrell, 2010).
Enron has been described as having a culture of arrogance,
Research Paper On Ketchump
I am hands down the worlds pickiest eater. When I was a child, my parents would
create what the menu, but when I turned three I stood up for myself. No ketchup!
No tomatoes! No mustard! I always found it extremely odd how people were
obsessed with these foods when the sheer aroma of plain old ketchup made me
gag. Every single night my family and I would sit down for dinner. No matter the
meal, ketchup was always a necessity for my brother. Whether it was a juicy
hamburger, grilled chicken, or even plain pasta, the Heinz ketchup was present. The
worst part was our assigned seats; Brett and I were always a few inches apart.
Everyday I would watch him first shake the ketchup so that the juice would mix with
the substance, squeeze it out and smother it on the food. I would hold my breath...

Tomato is the main ingredient in ketchup and they are the same color, so why
would I like one when I despise the other. At dinners it was always tough to make
food that we all agreed on. Since I was so particular with the foods I would eat, I
would put in my dinner requests the second I woke up in the morning. Regardless,
my mom would always prepare a salad before the main dish. She was always a pro
at disguising the vegetables. She would slice them paper thin so they almost all
camouflaged into the lettuce. This definitely worked. I was content with this
routine and would gladly eat the salad. After a few weeks of my mom s salads and
various meals, I began asking questions and getting curious. Why was this so
important with her cooking? Why is it made every single night? What is even in it?
As much as I did not want to know, I questioned. She would not tell me at first. I

The, The Best Managed Beverage Company Essay
Definition of Project: Edgar Bronfman, Jr., in 1995, had a vision for Seagram to be
the best managed beverage company (Jick Peiperl, 2011). In his vision, he stated
that the company would focus on growth, would be fast and flexible, customer and
consumer oriented. Seagram would reward and honor employees for teamwork.
For any company to succeed, there must be a vision, and the company must have
employees that are well trained, agree with the vision, feel valued and cared for,
and are ready and willing to help the company become successful. According to
Sheehan and Isaac (2014), corporate values are considered feel good statements and
have virtually no effect on a company s operations.
In 1994, Seagram began a major re engineering of the company. This goal of this
effort was to manage effectively business processes and reduce cost. Employees
were placed on teams which were to find out how to please the customers and bring
growth to the company.
Diagnosis of the current situation: The top management of Seagram was so focused
on the Seagram values , growth, having the best management and teamwork. The
company has a good vision, but without the employees to back the vision, the goals
would not be met. Seagram had acquired other businesses, and this was a good
move, but at the same time, the employees were still not having their needs met. An
example is a football team. Coaches get fired if the team does not win enough games.
However, it is the players that
Apology To Raymond Sebond By Montaigne
The difference between humans and animals is not their ability to reason or think
about reality, but rather the human tendency for anthropocentric idealism a false
illusion of superiority in which society accesses nature through an exclusively
anthropomorphic perspective. As we distinguish and separate ourselves from
nonhuman animals, we, in the process, lose our connection to nature, to the natural
world. Michel de Montaigne, in his essay Apology to Raymond Sebond, emphasizes
how the cause of this divergence from nature was due to presumption [,] our natural
and original illness. According to Montaigne, humans, despite being the ill fated and
[feeblest] of all creatures, assumed the role of superiority by equating themselves with

In Of Cannibals, Montaigne emphasizes how Europeans have perverted the art of
war for greed, juxtaposing it to the indigenous representation of it as honor and
valor. In Montaigne s description of indigenous warfare, he again uses the
repetition of lack of clothing and technology, describing how the cannibals were
naked, and without other arms than their bows and wooden swords, fashioned at
one end like the head of our javelin in order to portray the differences between the
natural and simplistic approach of indigenous to the complexity of European
warfare, which relied on more advanced technologies, such as gunpowder and

Archetyble Heros In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The definition or idea of a hero is classified differently between every individual. A
number of people would state that a hero is a character who saves the world or
saves a person s life. On the other hand, it could be someone who has influence.
Throughout history, heroes are constantly characterized by individuals who are able
to rise up to a challenge; any challenge presented to them. The typical definition of
the Heroarchetype is somebody who surmounts trials and overcomes obstacles all
throughout their journey on behalf of a tribe, group, or civilization. A biblical hero
is a person from the bible that has lived their life through faith, an ordinary person
appointed by God. Their life is devoted towards God based on their actions and
beliefs, influencing many people s lives. Enkiduand Gilgamesh are viewed as
conventional heroes in the Epic of Gilgameshwhile Joseph is considered as a biblical
hero in the Bible. One major difference between an ordinary hero and a biblical hero
is that biblical heroes do not have extraordinary talents or abilities, instead they retain
true faith. As central characters to their respective stories, Gilgamesh, Enkidu, and
Joseph all possess heroic characteristics while overcoming trials even though their
distinctive backgrounds set them apart.
To begin with, Gilgamesh is bombarded with a variety of challenges and is forced to
conquer them, turning him into the archetypal hero he is meant to be. Initially,
people viewed Gilgamesh as a

Sigmund Freud Theories
Sigmund Freud s Theories in Relation to Brave New World
One might imagine, what could truly constitute A brave new world? What parameters
must that world fall within? What decisive mind is manning the ship headed toward
this utopia? Certainly, this world has seen innumerous attempts, heard the many
strident voices, which barreled forth and propelled society toward that image. One of
those voices belonged to Sigmund Freud, the father of psychoanalysis, and even,
perhaps, a deity of this brave new world.
Sigmund Freud was born May 6th, 1856, in Frieberg, Moravia to a textile dealer
named Jacob Freud (Chiriac, Jean, Sigmund Freud s Childhood ). He was one of
eight children, five sisters and three brothers. The family lived in Frieberg until
Sigmund was four years old, when the family then moved to Vienna where Sigmund
would remain for the vast majority of his life. By 1873, Freud would go on to study
medicine at the University of Vienna. Freud went get engaged in 1882, to a women
who would bear him six children. The relationship has been largely considered and
happy, prosperous union (Thornton, Stephan).
In 1938, shortly after the Annexation of Austria, Freud s home in Vienna was raided
by Nazis. Any of Freud s works written before May of 1933 were burned for their
flippant destigmatization of sexuality ( Sigmund Freud and the Holocaust ). With a
minimal understanding of the who and the why of Sigmund Freud, one can move in

FeCl3 was then added to this solution and a positive colour change was seen, as it
turned green
Sample + Ethanol + FeCl3 = Dark Green solution
This was then repeated using Salicyclic Acid instead of the sample to give a
reference material as it will give a positive test for a phenol.
Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol = Colourless solution
Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol + FeCl3 =Purple solution
The positive colour change from colourless to dark green of the sample means that
the phenol group is present in the sample. Therefore indicating that the acetic
anhydride has reacted with the amino group.
3. Determine the melting point and record the infrared spectrum of the dry solid.
Melting Point:
The melting point of sample obtained is: 1680C
Literature Value: [1]: 169 1720C
Fig 1.1 Infrared Spectra of Paracetamol:
The infrared spectrum of paracetamol shows the appearance of a new peak at 1561
1650cm 1 this represents the carbonyl group from the acetic anhydride, meaning
that paracetamol has been formed. The OH peak is still present at 3109 3319cm 1
this shows that the phenol group is still attached to paracetamol. From the infrared
spectra you can also see that the NH2 group has disappeared. This is as it has been
selectively acetylated by acetic anhydride to form paracetamol.

Assess The Causes Of Murder
Murder is an act of taking one s life unlawfully for own benefits (Pine, 2016). Such
behaviours have to be severely reprimanded. However, there are a few causes of
murder which need to be considered by the community insanity, self defence and
imperfect legal system.
First of all, some people murder simply because they go insane. Parry and Moyes
(2013) said that there were actually 1216 victims who got killed by the people with
mental illness from 2001 to 2010 in the United Kingdom. Some of the murderers
were suffering from mental disorders; so, they could not control themselves on what
they are doing or what they are going to do. There was a 60 year old man who shot
dead his neighbour. Two consultant forensic psychiatrists provided evidences which
had proven the man was suffering from mental illness; thus, he was unable to control
himself from his actions (O Riordan, 2016). Moreover, it is difficult to understand the
causes of a child who murdered his or her parents, the one who brings them up;
however, insanity might be one of the reasons that contributed to the ... Show more

There are some murderers had been released from the prison, and this is undoubtedly
giving them chances to commit murder again. Five murderers were released from the
prison despite getting life sentences, and they committed murder again within the
weeks of being freed from the jail (Robinson, 2013). Then, it is somehow
encouraging people to commit a crime provided they are careful enough and without
leaving any strong evidence after committing a crime for allowing the judge
sentenced them to the prison. A 46 year old man had been killed, and the two
suspects were released from jail without any charge due to lack of evidence
(Robinson, 2016). A legal system plays an important role in maintaining social order,
but it consists of loopholes, which enable some law breakers escape from bearing the
legal responsibilities after committing a
A Brief Note On Contaminated Water And Uv Light
Contaminated Water and UV Light In today s world, the access to clean water is
unspeakably easy. Technology has revolutionized what it means to get clean water
that is safe to drink, shower in, and play in. The water that is consumed by humans
comes from water treatment plants, making it perfectly safe. Many people don t
think about where their water comes from, or the process it has to go through in
order for it to be consumable. However, many countries do not have access to clean
drinking water. In other places, people have to clean their own water using the sunto
kill bacteria. This process is called the SODIS process. SODIS, meaning Solar Water
Disinfection, is a process that uses solar radiation from the sun to kill the bacteria in
contaminated water. When countries do not have access to clean water, they use
this process because it doesn t require money and because it is quite simple to
follow. Water is put into a regular sized water bottle and is placed onto an area that
can be affected by the sun, such as a roof. Small bottles are usually used because
there is a lower risk of contamination because of the small space the water is in. The
water can reach temperatures of 70 to 100 degrees. The SODIS process is simple,
but it is very time consuming; one bottle can take up to 6 hours to disinfect. SODIS
has proven to be a very reliable way to clean water. In countries where people may
have to drink dirty water, they can suffer from disease. According to the Centers

Self Study Essay

  • 1. Self Study Essay Crafting an essay on the subject of "Self Study" presents a unique set of challenges, primarily because the very nature of the topic demands a profound introspection and a comprehensive understanding of one's own learning journey. Unlike other essay topics that might rely on external sources and established theories, a self-study essay requires the writer to delve into personal experiences, motivations, and the evolution of their own educational pursuits. The initial hurdle lies in navigating the fine line between self-reflection and self-indulgence. Striking the right balance between providing insights into personal growth and avoiding excessive self-promotion is crucial. It necessitates a deep level of honesty and self-awareness, which can be both challenging and, at times, uncomfortable. Moreover, the structure of the essay becomes intricate as it has to narrate a coherent and compelling narrative of one's educational journey. From identifying pivotal learning moments to elucidating the impact of various study techniques, the writer must seamlessly weave together disparate elements into a cohesive storyline. This requires careful thought and meticulous planning to ensure the essay remains focused and does not deviate into unrelated tangents. Additionally, maintaining objectivity while discussing personal achievements and shortcomings poses another layer of complexity. It is imperative to present a fair and unbiased account of the learning process, acknowledging both successes and failures without succumbing to the temptation of self-aggrandizement or excessive self-criticism. Furthermore, finding the right tone is a perpetual challenge. Striking a balance between humility and confidence is essential to engage the reader without coming across as either boastful or overly self-deprecating. In conclusion, writing a compelling essay on self-study demands a unique set of skills – a delicate blend of introspection, storytelling prowess, and the ability to articulate personal experiences in a relatable and insightful manner. It requires a willingness to confront one's own learning journey with honesty and openness, making it a challenging yet rewarding task for any writer. And for those seeking assistance in navigating such intricate topics or any other academic writing challenges, a variety of resources are available. Similar essays and much more can be ordered on platforms like HelpWriting.net, where experienced writers can provide valuable insights and assistance in crafting well-structured and compelling essays. Why Use An Ergonomic Keyboard Why Use an Ergonomic Keyboard The word ergonomic is probably a word you have heard severally from various quarters and the technology world is perhaps the main center of focus as far as this is concerned. Looking at computers which are our main concern, you will find that the aspect of an ergonomic keyboard has been incorporated too. Essentially, an ergonomic keyboard is supposed to make you comfortable as you work as it draws away muscle strain and other repetitive strain injuries (RSI). In most cases, you will find that this variety of keyboards are V shaped and this is meant to enable both hands to type at an angle, which is assumed to be the most natural way to do so for every person. As usual, most of the times, when working on or with your keyboard, speed, comfort and efficiency are of the essence. • 4. The Real Story Of Ah Q Our readings and class discussions have inspired me to look at the roles that art and literature play in contemporary East Asia as a means of inspiring cultural change and transforming traditional ideas and ideologies. We read the thought provoking works of Lu Xun and Richard Kim. We also discussed the contemporary Chinese artist Ai Weiwei motivating me to watch a documentary on his life and artwork. These authors and artists along with the woodblock artists Li Hua and Hu Yichuan did more than just capture a moment in time, their artwork and literature was created to question the status quo, provoke new ideas and challenge governmental and societal ideologies. I read The Real Story of Ah Q by Lu Xun. This was not one of my assigned readings, but when the story was summarized in class, I instantly found a connection between this story and the American play The Crucible by Arthur Miller. Reading the story Ah Q drew so parallels and common themes between these two fictional works. The Crucible is a dramatized story of the Salem witch trials that took place in Massachusetts, but Miller wrote this as an allegory for McCarthyism in the 1950 s. Ah Q and John Proctor both consider themselves good and worthy men, but both are flawed in many ways. John Proctor has been accused adultery and is sentenced to death unless he confesses his crime. He refuses to sign his name on the confession since it will be posted on the Church door for everyone to see and witness. By writing his name

To begin with, what exactly caused both of these quakes? Well, a cycle is happening above as well as beneath the surface. This cycle involves the movement of tectonic plates. Both of these earthquakes were caused by the movement of two very different plates. The Chilean earthquake was caused by the Nazca Plate sub ducting under the South American plate. This means these two plates collided along the plate boundaries, which made one slip underneath the other. The bottom plate slowly pushed the top plate, and was then released causing the earthquake. The magnitude for the quake was of 9.5, being the largest earthquake ever recorded. The Haiti quake was caused by a lateral strike slip motion. There was a separation in the boundary region of the Caribbean Plate and North American Plate. As the plates glided past one another, strain and compression was building along the fault. There was a release of energy that resulted in ground shaking. The Haiti earthquake had a magnitude of 7.0. The number of deaths and damages is the biggest difference between the two. The area between the Mississippi River and the Appalachian mountain range was contested, as both nations claimed it. When the British won the Seven Years War, their colonial holdings doubled in size and they gained control of North America. Conflicts over trading rights and the control of the Ohio country was the primary cause of the French and the Indian War (Davidson, 2006). British control over North America and the Seven Years War led to many issues and problems as the British struggled to maintain their supremacy. The French came out behind in each of these struggles, they lost position as highest colonial power for the next generation, their position would not be restored until French Revolution of the 1970 s. Emily fails to resolve the conflict in the phallic stage because she was unable to identify with the same sex parent. We can only hypothesize that the mother may have abandoned her or died during this time so that there was no same sex parent to identify with. Failure to identify with the mother led to the failure of successfully obtaining the penis, and the failure to understand through psychosexual competition with the mother for the father, that all women do not and cannot possess a penis. Emily then begets a nonnegotiable necessity to have a phallic figure around in her life, and if she can t, a possession of the penis herself. Emily s submissiveness to letting her father control her romantic life can be interpreted as the need to have her father s phallic figure around but when her father died, the phallic figure was castrated from her. The realization of the temporality of this kind of possession may have triggered the need to permanently have control over the possession of the penis in the form of a phallic figure. This may explain the poisoning of Homer, a big, dark, ready man, with a big voice , in the ultimate attempt to obtain the penis and finally, however perversely, resolve the penis envy. While the speaker on stage bellows his gospel of forgiveness, some students halfheartedly nod along, some stare at their shoes, and some snore. Looking around the chapel from my seat in the back row, I am overwhelmed with one impression: apathy. This mood that hung in the room was pervasive, making me feel uncomfortable because I realized that I felt it too. While I usually enjoy learningfor its own sake, apathy has not escaped me. Not only does this mindset manifest in my school s chapel services, but also in the classroom. When students do not care about learning, they either put in the least amount of effort possible or resort to rote memorization to maintain their grade. Instead of understanding the material, they glean little knowledge that they can apply to their lives, making educationrelatively pointless. This thoughtlessness maddens me because I want to be purposeful in everything that I do. The Chinese would have recruits do tests of strength to prove that they could prove themselves useful on the battlefield. One of the main tests was a 400 lb. stone that the recruits had to lift off of the ground in order to be accepted into their military ranks.(Basictraining.us) The Egyptians had many sports and activities that they would do that included Archery, Swimming, chariot racing. They would use bags to put sand in to lift over their head. The Egyptians use those sand bags to lift over their heads to build strength. There was no way of knowing how heavy those sand bags where but from some research the said they heaviest they could have gotten was me 95 lb. just for the fact of the sack not being able to support the weight of the sand. Sunlight filters through leaves that still clinging to the towering Oak and Maple trees along the dirt trail. Little feet pound the ground, compressing the leaves and sending up puffs of dirt, as a rabbit hops along through the underbrush. He startles a flock of birds which take flight and voice their anger at being disturbed with a chorus of shrill cawing. The little rabbit continues his journey occasionally pausing to rummage around in the leaves, but finds nothing to his liking and proceeds with his hopping. A sudden noise makes him freeze in place. Cautiously, he settles onto his hind legs and his pink nose along with his ears twitch in search of a clue to what might have caused the disturbance. Having decided that the danger has passed the rabbit hops up onto a log which spans a babbling brook. He rests there a moment and allows for the coolness rising from the water to wash over him. After crossing the stream he stops at the water s edge lapping at the water with his tiny tongue. Once he has had his fill, he returns to his burrow nestled among a copse sapling maples, deep within the forest. The seasons of Autumnand Winter are paid tribute in these three sonnets: To Autumn, It Sifts From Leaden Sieves, and Fall Song written by John Keats, Emily Dickinsonand Mary Oliver respectively. Studies have shown that at least sixty three percent of small town colleges are more likely of experiencing a massive on campus shooting. The Externalities Of Taxation On Capital Gain The externalities of taxation on capital gain have been a controversial debate among scholars, economists and policy makers along the timeline of ever changing tax reforms in the history of the United States. This introduction covers all the possible externalities that change in marginal tax rate can have on investors incentives and timing to sell, portfolio strategy, tax revenue collected by the government and the social welfare changes. The first thing to clarify is that there are both positive and negative externalities on the effect of taxation on capital gain. Timing to realize the capital gain is paramount since in the United States long term gains (typically 1 year or more) will be taxed at a significantly lower rate than ordinary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since a higher tax rate leads to a lower amount of realization on capital gain, it would consequently reduce the transaction fees or commission fees charged by the agencies, which eventually reduces the market activity and causes a welfare loss. The externality of a lower tax rate on the tax revenue could go either way. When we only consider the static analysis, we have a negative externality that the tax revenue decreases obviously since the same amount of realization is being taxed at a lower rate. When we consider other offsetting factors, positive externalities come in to play important roles. The first positive externality is due to the unlocking effect that increases the amount of realization on capital gain, which therefore increases the tax revenue. Technology has revolutionized what it means to get clean water that is safe to drink, shower in, and play in. The water that is consumed by humans comes from water treatment plants, making it perfectly safe. Many people don t think about where their water comes from, or the process it has to go through in order for it to be consumable. However, many countries do not have access to clean drinking water. In other places, people have to clean their own water using the sunto kill bacteria. This process is called the SODIS process. SODIS, meaning Solar Water Disinfection, is a process that uses solar radiation from the sun to kill the bacteria in contaminated water. When countries do not have access to clean water, they use this process because it doesn t require money and because it is quite simple to follow. Water is put into a regular sized water bottle and is placed onto an area that can be affected by the sun, such as a roof. Small bottles are usually used because there is a lower risk of contamination because of the small space the water is in. The water can reach temperatures of 70 to 100 degrees. The SODIS process is simple, but it is very time consuming; one bottle can take up to 6 hours to disinfect. SODIS has proven to be a very reliable way to clean water. In countries where people may have to drink dirty water, they can suffer from disease. According to the Centers
