Gender Roles In The Sun Also Rises Robert Cohn
Gender Translation During the post war modernism era writers portray the gender compound in
interesting and unique ways. The book follows a group of Americans as they travel around Europe
soon after World War One. In Ernest Hemingway s masterpiece The Sun Also Rises the narrator, Jake
Barnes, and the other main character s gender characterization is unique in that the main character s
gender traits juxtapose each other throughout the novel. Jake Barnes masculinity shifts multiple times
throughout the novel. Even after he had an accident that leads all the women to believe he is impotent
(Hemingway, 120). After Jake was almost literally emasculated during the war, he gets into fights with

Cohn is a notorious American writer but he still shows his insecurity. One of the reasons for his
insecurity is that Cohn is one of the few men in the story who is revealed to not be a veteran of the
war. Cohn also experienced a lot of racial discrimination as a Jew when he went to Princeton
(Hemingway, 12). To compensate for his self consciousness, he became the middleweight boxing
champion of Princeton (Hemingway, 11). Despite his athletic achievements, Cohn is still portrayed as
feminine. His first wife left him before he could leave her and the next woman he had a relationship
with was very forceful and she treated Cohn as a careless possession (Hemingway, 13). The woman,
whose name is Frances, took advantage of Cohn s insecurities and she used them to dominate, not
letting him look at another woman (Hemingway, 13). Cohn s weakness for women causes him to
nearly kill Romero in a fistfight. Jealous of Romero after [Lady Ashley] told [Cohn] off, Cohn
attacked Romero (Hemingway, 204). Cohn After dominating Romero in the fight, he fails to sustain
the dominance when he attempts to shake Romero s hand and as a result, the bull fighter chap hit
[Cohn] in the face (Hemingway, 205). Cohn then started crying and telling [Lady Ashley] how much
he loved her (Hemingway, 205). Cohn s fails to display masculinity throughout the novel and he is

Synopsis Of Dubai International Airport
Dubai International Airport
Dubai International Airport was conceptualized to function as Dubai s primary airport and the regions
busiest for the foreseeable future without the need for relocation or the building of another airport
when passenger figures increased. The area was chosen near to Dubai, to attract passengers from the
city of Dubai rather than travel to the busier Sharjah International Airport. The planned location
originally was Jebel Ali. The original masterplan for the existing airport initially involved a dual
terminal and one runway configuration over two phases with provisions for another two passenger
terminals in the near future. Phase 1 included the construction for the first passenger terminal, the first
runway, 70 aircraft parking bays, support facilities and structures, including a large maintenance
hangar, the first fire station, workshops and administrative offices, an airfreight complex, two cargo
agents buildings, in flight catering kitchen and a 285ft control tower. Construction for the second
phase would commence immediately after the completion of Phase 1 and include the second runway,
50 new aircraft parking bays in addition to the existing 70 bays, a second fire station and a third cargo
agent building.
The third phase included construction of a new terminal (now the parts of Terminal 1 s main building
and Concourse C) and an additional 60 parking bays, as well as new aircraft maintenance facility.
Then, in the early 2000s a new master

Symptoms And Treatment Of Head Injuries
Head injuries can be fatal or may cause permanent disability or damage to the brain if it is not
identified and treated in a timely manner. A computed tomography head scan done within one hour
after a traumatic event will allow for rapid treatment and improve the outcomes for patients with head
injuries that may have damaged to the brain. When used appropriately, the benefits of a computed
tomography far exceed the risks. Computed tomography head scans can provide detailed information
to diagnose, plan treatment, and evaluate many conditions in adults and children. Computed
Tomography imaging also known as CT or a CAT scan, combines a series of x ray images taken from
different angles and uses computer processing to create cross sectional images also known as slices of
the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissue inside the body. The CT scan reveals anatomic details of
internal organs that cannot be seen on conventional x rays. A motorized table moves the patient
through a circular opening of the CT scanner known as the gantry which houses the x ray tube. As the
patient passes through the CT system, the x rays rotates around the opening. A beam of x rays exposes
the patient as the table moves in and out of the scanner in a series of phases. Detectors on the opposite
side of the patient record the x rays exiting that section of the patients body. They then produce cross
sectional views or slices. The data is then sent to a computer to reconstruct all of the individual

How Did Pablo Picasso Influence The World
In term of art, and art movements Pablo Picasso is probably the most important figure of 20th century.
That means Pablo Picasso conquered western art is by storm. Who became very famous before the age
of 50.Born in Spain, he becomes the most well known name in modern art, with his unique style and
view for artistic creation. His art made a big impact on the art world and that had been no other artists,
prior to Picasso. He had lots of following of fans and critics who like his creation. Even his art career
spanned long period, Pablo Picasso is most known for his creation of cubism, and new approach to

Steeple Vs Eagen Case Study
Steeple v. Eagen Eagen was in a situation where his instructor, and possibly other students, were in
danger. Each state and the federal government allow for the right to self defense. However, states have
developed rules which define when self defense is allowed. Factors that must be examined are the
imminent nature of the threat, reasonable nature of the threat, proportional response, duty to retreat
versus stand your ground, and beyond. Eagen was within his right to respond to Steeple. Miller et. al
states a more succinctly phrased test to determine if self defense is applicable. Miller et. al questions,
Was the defendant privileged to use force to defend herself, and was the degree of force that she used
reasonable? A person may defend themselves against any threat of physical contact or confinement.
The notion of whether the threat is negligent or intentional is irrelevant. In fact, the defendant does not
even have to be harmed to use this defense. Based on the idea that self preservation is the first law of
nature even in err, a defendant must genuinely believe there is a threat. For example, if a police officer
shoots and kills a criminal known to be armed who reached in their pocket for keys, the officer still
can claim self defense because the notion the criminal was pulling out a gun, based on their
background, is reasonable. Likewise, Eagan perceived not only imminent danger but a deadly danger
that would likely have left Bonds dead if he had not responded. The fact that the danger was no real,
has zero bearing on the legal situation. Another issue at hand is proportional response or reasonable
force. It could be argued that Eagen responded in a disproportionate manner that led to the broken leg
of Steeple. However, this argument is mitigated by the fact the deadly force may be used to address a
threat of equal deadly force. Eagan did not likely intend to break Steeple s leg, only intending to
prevent Steeple s aggression from escalation. However, this is largely irrelevant from a legal
standpoint. At the time of Eagan s actions, Steeple was seemingly choking Bonds. Choking can equate
to deadly force. If the simulation were real and Steeple continued to choke Bonds, he would succumb

Adoption For Prospective Or Current Parents
Adoptive Parents
Adoptive parents share in the joys of parenthood, which may also include challenges that impact their
family dynamic. However, the reasons for adopting a child vary among couples, with a central one
being infertility, but can include a desire to care for orphans. Therefore, couples might approach the
subject of adoption with a bittersweet mentality, particularly if the natural ability to conceive is the
issue. The choices concerning adoption for prospective or current parents are not light in nature,
including, but not limited to, finances, the type of adoption, and selecting a lawyer or agency.
Receiving professional counseling before finalizing a decision is also beneficial. Aside from the
technical aspects, there is the raising of a child that will entail explanations of why there are noticeable
differences between him and her and other family members, along with recognizing difficult
transitional periods the child might encounter (Pertman, 2011, pp. 169 170). Thus, adoptive parents
have distinct concerns they will encounter, with one being grieving the inability of having biological
children, as well as childrearing issues.
Adoptees
An adoptee represents a person who is not raised by the woman that gave birth to him or her, which
may also exclude the birth father. He or she is part of a unique, yet, similar group of individuals that
have differing experiences concerning being adopted. Similar to the other parties in the triad who

Biblical Allusions In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Although not always recognizable, biblical allusions enhance the writing of novels, and connect
specific themes to the Bible. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Alan Paton has placed numerous
biblical allusions, corresponding to the common theme of Man s relationship with God. Some of these
allusions pertain to actual verses from the Bible placed into the story. Others are abstract and are
representations of themes from the Bible. Generally, Alan Paton has ingeniously placed biblical
allusions to emphasize the relationship between man and God.
Imagine an eden where the grass is rich and thick . The novel opens with visual imagery of a scene of
paradise. Unfortunately, over time the streams dry out and too many cattle feed upon the grass
(Paton.1). This alludes to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise for Adam and Eve, but because
of their sin, they could not stand upon it (Paton.1). When Paton is describing the beautiful land, the
narrator commands not to stand upon it[, wearing] shoes, for the ground is holy, being just as it came
from God (Paton.1). This statement represents with the story of Moses in which he could not walk
towards the burning bush with his shoes on. He is commanded to remove them before approaching the
bush. The first chapter of Cry, the Beloved Country is filled with allusions pertaining to the early Old
Testament of the Bible.
Paton uses a well known Bible verse from Isaiah as is well fits the theme of man s relationship with
God and how man s morals have been destroyed in Johannesburg. The narrator hopes that God will
open the blind eyes, [and] bring out the prisoners from prison (Paton.122). He may very well be
referring to literal prison, where people are held due to wrong doings, or, this may correspond with the
African Americans who do not have the rights they deserve. God has called [Kumalo] in righteousness
and will hold [his] hand (Paton.122). Paton is trying to show that Kumalo has fear about
Johannesburg, but God will be with him and will not leave his side. Regardless of which interpretation
of this quote is used, both symbolize important elements of the story in order to enhance the book, and
engage the readers.
Throughout the plot, Stephen Kumalo, the

Killer Angels Essay
The Killer Angels
The Battle of Gettysburg brought the dueling North and South together to the small town of
Gettysburg and on the threshold of splitting the Union. Gettysburg was as close as the United States

America s future. Michael Shaara tells the story of the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of the
generals and men involved in the action of the battle. The historical account of the Battle of
Gettysburg gives the reader a chance to experience the battle personally and not the history book

Shaara, through his commentary on General Lee, explains that Lee did not want to fight the war but
had to. Lee felt it was his duty to fight for his fellow countrymen, but not for a cause, land, or slavery.
So it was no cause and no country he fought for, no ideal and no justice. He fought for his people, for
the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war, but the people
were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). General Lee fights for himself and has no choice but to fight,
knowing in the end that he might be wrong with his cause and pay the price someday. General Lee is
not a proponent of war, but he will serve his country with honor and duty if necessary.
A man of ideals and honor represent the character of Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain. Being a man
of education, Chamberlain knows the demeaning and repulsive nature of slavery and has come to fight
to end it. Chamberlain hates the whole idea of the Civil War and the death and destruction that goes
along with it. I used my brother to plug a hole. Did it automatically as if he were expendable, says
Chamberlain (Shaara 304). He hates the idea that men, including his brother, are dying out in the fight
for slavery. The only reason he believes in the Civil War is that if he the North did not fight freedom
would be tarnished and a great travesty would occur. Chamberlain is not a man of war and blood and
doesn t relish war and its qualities. The idea of war in general to

The Current Great Recession
In the midst of the current economic downturn, dubbed the Great Recession , it is natural to look for
one, singular entity or person to blame. Managers of large banks, professional investors and federal
regulators have all been named as potential creators of the recession, with varying degrees of guilt. No
matter who is to blame, the fallout from the mistakes that were made that led to the current crisis is
clear. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the current unemployment rate is 9.7%, with 9.3
million Americans out of work (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Compared to a normal economic rate of
two or three percent, it is clear that the decisions of one group of people have had a profound affect on

In the lead up to the current recession, when the real estate market began to fall, there were so many
investors shorting stocks and securitized mortgage packages that were already falling, that the market
simply fell further. There were no buyers at the bottom, and the professional investors made millions
off of the losses of others. Beyond this, there was no real federal regulation for securitized mortgages,
since there was no real way to gauge the mathematical risk of any given package. This allowed the
investors to take advantage of the system and to short loans on real people s homes. Once these
securities were worthless, many of the homebuyer s defaulted on their mortgages and were left
penniless. No matter from which angle this crisis is looked at, the blame rests squarely with the
managers who began the entire cycle, the ones who pursued the securitization of mortgages. Their
incompetence not only led to the losses of Americans who have never invested in the stock market,
but to losses for their shareholders. These losses necessitated governmental action in the financial
markets. Companies such as Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns lost all of their stock s value and were
forced into bankruptcy. This risk spread throughout the American banks, forcing the American
government to step in and buy all of the securitized, troubled assets from the balance sheets of

Michael Brown Thesis
The history of the human race can be summed up as self destructive. Centuries of countless war,
uprisings, and oppression has marked history as a repeating cycle of hate and violence. The population
today is divided amongst issues and the government is torn between what decide. The people want
change from their government about critical issues, but change is not always guaranteed to be given.
With change comes opposition and opposition only gives rise to violence.
The day is Aug. 9 and 18 yr. old Michael Brown has just been shot. Due to the tension dividing the

The people of Ferguson were outraged at the racial injustice which transpired in their city. Too many
young black men had had their lives taken too soon by the police. Michael Brown s death was another
added to the list surely not the last and the people knew this. Change was needed and that burning
need for it is what started the riots. The citizens of Ferguson were fed up with how the people of the
country were treated by law enforcement and decided to make a stand. Ferguson would be thrown in
the spotlight for what s wrong with America . The police and the people of the country had a broken
bond. Those entrusted to protect the people were no longer trusted. The riots in Ferguson were not
called for because they only led to the destruction of the city and the arrest of protesters. They
accomplished nothing and took away from the reason of the riots, Michael Brown s unjust death.

opposition both come to an agreement about the best outcome of their situation. Violence creates hate

The Pros And Cons Of Gender Inequality
Gender inequality, by definition, is the differences in status between men and women in society. It
normally affects women more than men, due to their status in society. Many women are said to
experience gender inequality within workplaces. This begs the question: why do gender inequalities
exist? The most logical cause of gender inequality would be stereotyping. Men are pictured as being
the quarterbacks, the breadwinners, needing to work to be able to support their family. On the other
hand, however, women are pictured as the housewives, mothers, and caretakers of the house. In
modern society, the typical housewife ideals have changed. Ever since World War II, women are

and cooking for the working man. However, in the modern day, women play both roles, going out and
doing work as well as taking care of the family. Women are mainly thought of being in the kitchen,
and because of this, it is very hard for men to picture them in a different light. A woman s primary
attachment is to the family role, Oakley says, women are therefore less intrinsically committed to

Similarities Between Alexander The Great And Julius Caesar
Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar
Of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome came the leaders Alexander the Great and Julius
Caesar. They are still inspiring the world today because of their legacy that they left behind, that
include how they each obtain their power, how they ruled over their people, and success and failures
of each. Alexander the Great was the son of King Philip II who obtained his power over the kingdom
of Macadamia when his father was assassinated in 336 B.C. He would later go on to complete his
father s dreaming of invading and controlling the Persian Empire. He did not stop there, however,
Alexander the Great would take control over most of the Middle East. While Alexander inherited his
power, another famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was also responsible for much of the Greek influence that we see today. His failures laid in the
way that he took in account the feelings and opinions of his army. He forced them to walk through a
desert as punishment but later on proved to be his grave. One of Julius Caesar s biggest success was
taking over Rome and proclaiming himself emperor, although not directly. Julius Caesar had to work
hard to climb up the political ladder to get to the top. Once there, Pompey tried to sway him to go back
to a private citizen, he refused and marched his army to Rome. He built Rhine Bridge in only ten days,
another major success, and threw Pompey out of power. Although Julius Caesar was determined to
obtain power, once he got it, it didn t last for much. His biggest failure was not listening to his
advisors of the assassination that was bound to happen. That one mistake is what not only cost his life,
but the power that he worked so hard to obtain. Both rulers achieved success of ruling a massive
empire but they failed in terms of being too proud and stubborn, which ultimately got them

Problem Statement:
Toyota grew at a record speed and could not keep up with the speed in which it was growing. They are
a centralized company and Japan only made the decisions. This prevented the company to keep up
with the safety problems. The process that Toyota external suppliers follow when improving product
and making sure the product is functioning properly before shipping to Toyota needs to be improved
before they release the product from their warehouse to be sent to Toyota. This problem began when
the company started to rapidly grow. Toyota s lack of communication led to the faulty gas pedal recall.
According to Deming (1987), Performance of management should be measured by potential to stay in

It is important that Toyota improve their communication and process of evaluating their parts because
if they don t they risk losing customers and market shares. An improved process would also give them
reassures that this issue does not arise again. According to Porter (1996) Delivering greater value
allows a company to charge a higher average unit price; greater efficiency result in lower average unit
cost (p.62). Toyota needs to focus more on quality than quantity. After quality is critiqued then they
can continue to grow at a lower rate. If Toyota gives their North American companies power to make
decisions than it would be a huge improvement to the companies and less risk of safety issues.
Toyota showing their customers, potential customers and shareholders that they have improved the
way they communicate their process and procedures will lead to gaining their confidence back in the
way Toyota does business. This will also allow Toyota to gain their good reputation back and lead to
gaining profits. Communication is the most important asset in how a company does business and is the
strength of a company. Toyota closing gaps and strengthening the way they communicate will lead to
a stronger Toyota.
Desired outcome
Toyota going from centralized to decentralize will give them more opportunity to quickly respond to
issues. Incorporating external information will give Toyota a more competitive

Many of the women interviewed by Friedan could speak of their own lives in the same way. They

strange emergence of physiological and psychological disorders among housewives is only part of
what Friedan calls the problem that has no name. She explains the title of her groundbreaking book:
The feminine mystique says that the highest value and the only commitment for women is the

the past, is that women envied men, women tried to be like men, instead of accepting their own nature,
which can find fulfillment only in sexual passivity, male domination, and nurturing maternal love.

Analysis Of Japan s The House
In a land called Japan, lay a run down shack in between mountain Fuji and a forest. From a look, the
shack will collapse from any second by the early winds that blew across the sky. As the sun starts to
rise from the east, wild animals awaken from their slumber to hunt. Inside the house(shack), lays a
man stirring from his sleep. As he opens his eyes, they shine forest green as he stared at open space.
As I opened my eyes from darkness, light shined from the little open space of straws that lay on my

Theme Of Absolute Monarchy In Julius Caesar
Famous French philosopher Voltaire once said, I would rather obey a fine lion, much stronger than
myself, than two hundred rats of my own species. . Voltaire s words relate to the idea of Machiavellian
leadership and the need for an absolute Monarchy. Both Machiavelli in The Prince an Shakespeare in
Julius Caesar argue the importance of an absolute monarchy lead by a strong leader like Voltaire s
Fine Lion . The texts share similar content on what constitutes a good leader, while stating that
absolute monarchy is the most efficient form of ruling. This is thanks to the dictatorial nature of
absolute monarchies and similar renaissance values of both Machiavelli and Shakespeare.
Machiavelli attributes the success of a nation to the effectiveness of the ruling absolute monarch.

Introduction The members of the largest ethnic group being granted legal permanent residence in the
United States are from Mexico. According the 2010 census 16.3% of the population of the United
States is Latino (Spector, 2013). The Latino population will increase to 30 % of the total population by
the year 2050 based on current projections (Juckett, 2013). There are several barriers to health care
faced by many in the Latino population. They include: language barriers, lack of health insurance,
mistrust, not have a legal status and a different culture of health care (Juckett, 2013, p. 48). Juckett
also points out that most medications that require a prescription in the US are obtained without
prescriptions in immigrants home countries (2013).
It is estimated that 20% of the U. S. population use herbal medicine. The prevalence of herbal
medicine use by some ethnic and cultural groups in the US may be even higher; one meta analysis
found that 4% to 40% (mean 30%) of Latinos living in the United States regularly used herbal
medicine (Kiefer, Tellez Giron, Bradbury, 2014, p. 64). The growing number of Latinos in the US and
their reliance on herbal remedies is something that healthcare providers are going to have to address to
be able to provide culturally competent care to this population.

Pedal Research Paper
The pedal is a body part located at the distal end of your legs. It s primary usage is for standing and
balance while moving. The pedal has the ability to remold itself to a person s walking gait. This means
that the structure of everybody s pedal in the world is a little different. Your pedal is what allows you
to stand, and keep your balance when walking and running. The leg connects to the pedal to form the
joint referred to as the ankle. The ankle is a joining between the two lower leg bones, the tibia and
fibula, and the talus bone of the pedal. This joining at the ankle joint is what allows you to move your

This could be catastrophic to your walking gait, as high heels reshape your feet to counteract the slope
heels put your pedal on. High heels shift your center of balance forward. This means less weight is
going to be put on the heel of your pedal, and more weight is going to be put on the ball and on the
phalanges of your pedal. Your tarsal bones will shift and your arch will change. Consistently wearing
high heels can also affect the structure of your legs and lower back. The shift of your weight to the tip
of your pedal means that your center of balance shifts forward as well. This leads to numerous
problems throughout the inferior portion of the body. A study conducted by Neil Cronin from Griffith
University found that women who consistently walk in high heals rely on their muscles, not their
tendons, to walk. This finding, coupled with the fact that optimal muscle tendon efficiency occurs
when the muscle stays approximately the same length while the tendon lengthens , shows that heels
create a less effective walking gait that requires you to expend more energy. High heels put your feet
in a constant plantar flexion which means that the Achilles Tendon is always contracted. So, when you
do take off your high heels your calf will burn, your knees will ache. This is because the Achilles
Tendon is attached to the calf muscle, which in turn connects to the

The Construction Of The British Indian Urban Scene
There were cities in India since ancient times which were commonly known for power and trading
activities. villages were self sufficient at that times. So the rate of migration was very low. But due to
degradation in village agrarian system, old chains began to break and process of migration to cities
started in search of livelihoods. The nature of urbanization process changed with the arrival of the
British East India Company. The major contributions of the British to the Indian urban scene were: the
Establishment of three metropolitan port cities of Mumbai (Bombay), Kolkata (Calcutta) and Chennai
(Madras)
Beginning of a chain of hill stations in the Himalayan region and in South India. Eg Shimla, ooty,
Dehradun etc. the modification of the existing cities with the introduction of civil lines and
cantonments. Eg Agra, Meerut etc.
The introduction of railways and modem industry. Eg Dhanbad, Jamshedpur etc. the up gradation in
urban amenities and administration
If we look at the history, the process of urbanization has been associated with other important
economic and social transformations, which have brought greater mobility from one place to another,
longer life expectancy and population aging. Cities are important elements of development and

Our society is in danger of nuclear fission due to all the natural and unnatural events happening in our

Nuclear fission is a very dangerous job and the actual energy maker costs money to create and with

In order to establish the correlation between Starbucks organizational culture and its management s

and precisely what it may entail. Through studying management and its characteristics as defined by
those considered experts in the subject matter, I have found that there are typically four primary
management competencies that are usually identified as core competencies. Those management skills
are conceptual, interpersonal, technical and political (Robbins, DeCenzo, Coulter, 2015, p. 11). At a
high level, these management competencies require one to have the skillset to evaluate and make a

depth of knowledge and expertise in reference to their specific job area and also have the skillset to
establish and foster relationships essential for professional growth, internally and externally.

Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw
The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense. The
story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes
for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of
the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing.
One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White
the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s
lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that
the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they
wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes
will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris
throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it
(paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the
paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw.
You can also tell from this that Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to
destroy it. After that, Mr. White asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response

The First Chechnya s Ethnic Conflicts
One of the largest, on going ethnic conflicts is the First Chechen War. To learn why this is one of the
largest ethnic conflicts, we must learn about Chechnya s past, why it is geographically important, as
well as why the conflict has arisen. Chechnya is a small republic, located in the Caucasus region,
located southwest of Russia. Chechnya was first taken by Russia during the Caucasian War, in a peace
treaty, ending the Ottoman Empire rebellion in 1785. However, the victory was short lived. As
Russians tried to spread Christianity throughout the predominantly Muslim region, the rebellions had
started again. Russia managed to maintain hold of the region, and kept it, even under the extreme
circumstances. In 1917, the Chechens gained independence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Technological advancement stopped, as all of the Russian, Armenian, and Georgian engineers left.
Schooling was practically non existent, as Russia no longer supplied teachers or money to teach. The
country as a whole was in shambles. Dudayev, the dictator at the time, needed to be kicked out of
office, as he was ruining everything the Chechens had fought for. But, Russia had seeked to use this as
an opportunity to regain control of the area, similarly to what happened in the recent Ukraine crisis. In
1994, under the promise to establish a new government, there was a Russian invasion. They attacked
from 3 separate fronts, heading straight for the capital of Grozny. The Chechen military was in
shambles, using outdated Soviet technology. Their Air Force and multiple airfields were ruined in air
strikes, just hours into the war. Their non existent army was now merely untrained rebels, with old
Soviet weaponry, and little to no knowledge of battlefield tactics. The Russian troops weren t too
happy about this either, many of which weren t even told where they are going, and

Steven Spielberg s Jaws and Ridley Scott s Gladiator Essay
Steven Spielberg s Jaws and Ridley Scott s Gladiator The two films being examined are the thriller
Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, and the action film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott. Both
directors create epic films; the films are momentous and are designed to manipulate the emotions. A
thriller is intended to appeal to basic human instinct to the need of feeling fear and survival. Action
movies are designed to appeal to our sense of danger: pace and experience is something we want but
don t have in our everyday lives to this extent. Both films are examples of media, which manage to
induce you into a certain way of thinking: Jaws into being scared and Gladiator into sympathising and
rooting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the Barbarians enter the scene they all appear uncivilised and disorganizes in comparison: the
fact they behead the messenger reinforces this. When the battle begins, the camera flicks around at a
frenetic pace, showing the chaos of battle. As Maximus enters on a horse, the light is streaming
through the trees making him appear a hero, a ray of hope in the dark. As he begins mercilessly killing
Germanians the director manipulates the audience into condoning the slaughter, and what is more,
willing him to kill further lending credibility to his role. In Jaws, the shot opens on the beach with the
campfire at night. It s a familiar setting; the teenagers are all stereotypically middle class college kids ,
very warm and relaxed. The director designed the scene to provoke a recognizable combination to the
audience, to convey how normal and plausible it is. When the female and male leave the group the
group, the colours change; the scene becomes dark and the characters become silhouetted against the
moonlight. The silence is emphasised by the sound of the waves and the bell. The atmosphere is eerie
and indefinite: the sea is calm. The female actress is silhouetted as she swims. Her friend has passed
out at this point, obviously beyond giving any help, which increases the sense of her isolation and
vulnerability. As the camera closes in for a close up

Critical Appreciation Of Slumdog Millionaire
The Western part of the world is unaware of how extreme poverty is on the East. Slumdog Millionaire
makes this clear in the film by showing the different parts of Mumbai and how the whole community
basically works together as a whole to stay alive. It is sad to see that the people there live in aluminum
shacks with cloth hovering over some of them as if it were like a door. It is also scary to see how the
Hindu s come and attack the Muslims to kill them because of the religious war. Despite these horrific
parts, this film brought attention to real life situations which makes it one of the greatest moving
movies of all time. Its success is based on many different categories, but its acting skills, plot, and
theme really project its accomplishments. The first reason that this film is seen as so well is because of
the actors skills. The way that the children naturally talk as if it were a conversation and act as if it was
just a normal life, was truly unbelievable. In the scene where the children were playing cricket on the
airport runway, they were all so happy and excited to be there despite all the circumstances and
horrible events that happen within their lives. This is important to see because little kids have such a
broad imagination that they do not worry about the events happening around them. One other scene
that stood out is when Jamal calls his brother for help on a question, but Latika answers the phone.
When he hears her voice, it was like he felt so relieved

Analysis Of Colonialism By Walcott
Colonialism s initial assumption or rather a presumption was to create a civilised and ordered world
through establishing dominion over seemingly uncivilised and backwards countries. The colonial
enterprise was justified based on the prevalent discourses of savage and primitive natives as reality
was hidden due to a severe lack of historical narrative from the natives themselves. The white man s
burden is to care for indigenous people who are unable to survive. This becomes a disguise for
economic interests in colonisation. An important aspect of colonisation was to discover new lands and
territories in order to accumulate them in their world. With the dawn of this age of discovery, new
areas were found and the New World was formed. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is almost no romanticising of history as he depicts the bloody and gruesome truth behind
colonial repression. His poems become the tools to appropriate history and rewrite colonialism from
the perspective of the victims and not the colonisers. According to Walcott, colonialism caused a
separation or division of self in Caribbean writers who have to struggle with the questions of identity.
As Shara McCallum remarks:
A poem exposes and defines the moment that a particular consciousness and language meet; and
Walcott s poems tilt this moment of encounter toward the light in such a way that the gesture itself and
the resulting poem often reveal the prismatic nature of identity. (23)
Walcott admitted to being in a complex position of being stuck between a certain consciousness of
gratitude to the Western world for his cultural and intellectual learning and his allegiance to his
African lineage. This position is often represented in his work as it forms a hybrid identity for him.
Many critics call this the schizophrenic situation of Caribbean identity as they are in between two
drastically different cultures. In A Far Cry from Africa , Walcott overtly addresses his struggle to
concretise his idea of identity:
I who am poisoned with the blood of

The Economic Causes Of The First Anglo-Dutch War
In the seventeenth century, overseas trade was vital for the European countries as the circulation of
currency and commodities allowed nations to function. Rommelse claims in his article that this
interdependence of nations caused by necessary trading lead to a rise in economic influence in politics
which in turn lead to economic conflicts becoming wars between nations. I agree with his point, and
believe this fact is best exemplified in Anglo Dutch relations. The first two Anglo Dutch Wars were
dominated by economic conflict, but after the treaty of Breda in 1667, economic interests showed a
less prevalent effect in Anglo Dutch political relationships and the third Anglo Dutch war was unique
as its cause was purely political. The English Civil War began the conflict that would lead to the first
Anglo Dutch war. The Parliamentary forces were largely protestant, and the parliamentary forces
reached out for an alliance with the Dutch Republic to form a bond with the only protestant nation.
Rommelse states that the Dutch republic realized that an alliance with England would allow for
English aggression in claiming previously Dutch only trading routes. This fact is further supported by
an article written by J.E. Farnell. The protestant forces now in control of England were angry at the
rejection of an alliance, and in 1651 passed the Navigation Acts with the sole purpose of hurting
Dutch trade with the rest of Europe. By limiting who could carry English goods or

The Pros And Cons Of Transforming Iraq
Transforming Iraq and Syria into liberal, democratic, capitalist, and secular nation states will not be an
easy task. It more than likely will not work at all, based on historical evidence. We will have to find a
way to connect with all kinds of people. People of different religions, backgrounds, and cultures. The
people of Syria and Iraq have not taken to western ideologies well in the past, and I have trouble
believing that they will in the present. There is too much conflict among the people within each
country for me to believe they would easily reform to western ideologies. They cannot even decide
among themselves how to live peacefully.
There have been many attempts to try and westernize Syria and Iraq. In 1917, the French and British
mandated several small states, including Iraq. Britain and France led on Hussein Ibn Ali, making him
believe that the Arabs would gain that land. This was proven to be untrue. When it was shown that the
British and French would rule their way and not fulfill their promises, Hussein created the Arab
Revolt, which fought for the land stolen from them. This was one example of unsuccessful
westernization of Iraq. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Britain and France promised the Turks that they could have the land that they promised to the Arabs.
This caused the Arabs to revolt again, but unfortunately they were too weak to defeat the British and
French and they were repressed (Brower 86). Along with the struggle of repression as a whole, there
were political and social conflicts among the different religious and ethnic groups in each small

The book follows a group of Americans as they travel around Europe soon after World War One. In Ernest Hemingway s masterpiece The Sun Also Rises the narrator, Jake Barnes, and the other main character s gender characterization is unique in that the main character s gender traits juxtapose each other throughout the novel. Cohn is a notorious American writer but he still shows his insecurity. One of the reasons for his insecurity is that Cohn is one of the few men in the story who is revealed to not be a veteran of the war. Cohn also experienced a lot of racial discrimination as a Jew when he went to Princeton (Hemingway, 12). To compensate for his self consciousness, he became the middleweight boxing champion of Princeton (Hemingway, 11). Despite his athletic achievements, Cohn is still portrayed as feminine. His first wife left him before he could leave her and the next woman he had a relationship with was very forceful and she treated Cohn as a careless possession (Hemingway, 13). The woman, whose name is Frances, took advantage of Cohn s insecurities and she used them to dominate, not letting him look at another woman (Hemingway, 13). Cohn s weakness for women causes him to nearly kill Romero in a fistfight. Jealous of Romero after [Lady Ashley] told [Cohn] off, Cohn attacked Romero (Hemingway, 204). Cohn After dominating Romero in the fight, he fails to sustain the dominance when he attempts to shake Romero s hand and as a result, the bull fighter chap hit [Cohn] in the face (Hemingway, 205). Cohn then started crying and telling [Lady Ashley] how much he loved her (Hemingway, 205). Cohn s fails to display masculinity throughout the novel and he is dependent on ... • 5. Symptoms And Treatment Of Head Injuries Head injuries can be fatal or may cause permanent disability or damage to the brain if it is not identified and treated in a timely manner. A computed tomography head scan done within one hour after a traumatic event will allow for rapid treatment and improve the outcomes for patients with head injuries that may have damaged to the brain. When used appropriately, the benefits of a computed tomography far exceed the risks. Computed tomography head scans can provide detailed information to diagnose, plan treatment, and evaluate many conditions in adults and children. Computed Tomography imaging also known as CT or a CAT scan, combines a series of x ray images taken from different angles and uses computer processing to create cross sectional images also known as slices of the bones, blood vessels, and soft tissue inside the body. The CT scan reveals anatomic details of internal organs that cannot be seen on conventional x rays. A motorized table moves the patient through a circular opening of the CT scanner known as the gantry which houses the x ray tube. As the patient passes through the CT system, the x rays rotates around the opening. A beam of x rays exposes the patient as the table moves in and out of the scanner in a series of phases. Detectors on the opposite side of the patient record the x rays exiting that section of the patients body. They then produce cross sectional views or slices. The data is then sent to a computer to reconstruct all of the individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Steeple Vs Eagen Case Study Steeple v. Eagen Eagen was in a situation where his instructor, and possibly other students, were in danger. Each state and the federal government allow for the right to self defense. However, states have developed rules which define when self defense is allowed. Factors that must be examined are the imminent nature of the threat, reasonable nature of the threat, proportional response, duty to retreat versus stand your ground, and beyond. Eagen was within his right to respond to Steeple. Miller et. al states a more succinctly phrased test to determine if self defense is applicable. Miller et. al questions, Was the defendant privileged to use force to defend herself, and was the degree of force that she used reasonable? A person may defend themselves against any threat of physical contact or confinement. The notion of whether the threat is negligent or intentional is irrelevant. In fact, the defendant does not even have to be harmed to use this defense. Based on the idea that self preservation is the first law of nature even in err, a defendant must genuinely believe there is a threat. For example, if a police officer shoots and kills a criminal known to be armed who reached in their pocket for keys, the officer still can claim self defense because the notion the criminal was pulling out a gun, based on their background, is reasonable. Likewise, Eagan perceived not only imminent danger but a deadly danger that would likely have left Bonds dead if he had not responded. The fact that the danger was no real, has zero bearing on the legal situation. Another issue at hand is proportional response or reasonable force. It could be argued that Eagen responded in a disproportionate manner that led to the broken leg of Steeple. However, this argument is mitigated by the fact the deadly force may be used to address a threat of equal deadly force. Eagan did not likely intend to break Steeple s leg, only intending to prevent Steeple s aggression from escalation. However, this is largely irrelevant from a legal standpoint. At the time of Eagan s actions, Steeple was seemingly choking Bonds. Choking can equate to deadly force. If the simulation were real and Steeple continued to choke Bonds, he would succumb to ... • 8. Adoption For Prospective Or Current Parents Adoptive Parents Adoptive parents share in the joys of parenthood, which may also include challenges that impact their family dynamic. However, the reasons for adopting a child vary among couples, with a central one being infertility, but can include a desire to care for orphans. Therefore, couples might approach the subject of adoption with a bittersweet mentality, particularly if the natural ability to conceive is the issue. The choices concerning adoption for prospective or current parents are not light in nature, including, but not limited to, finances, the type of adoption, and selecting a lawyer or agency. Receiving professional counseling before finalizing a decision is also beneficial. Aside from the technical aspects, there is the raising of a child that will entail explanations of why there are noticeable differences between him and her and other family members, along with recognizing difficult transitional periods the child might encounter (Pertman, 2011, pp. 169 170). Thus, adoptive parents have distinct concerns they will encounter, with one being grieving the inability of having biological children, as well as childrearing issues. Adoptees An adoptee represents a person who is not raised by the woman that gave birth to him or her, which may also exclude the birth father. He or she is part of a unique, yet, similar group of individuals that have differing experiences concerning being adopted. Similar to the other parties in the triad who experience joys ... • 9. Biblical Allusions In Cry, The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Although not always recognizable, biblical allusions enhance the writing of novels, and connect specific themes to the Bible. Throughout Cry, The Beloved Country, Alan Paton has placed numerous biblical allusions, corresponding to the common theme of Man s relationship with God. Some of these allusions pertain to actual verses from the Bible placed into the story. Others are abstract and are representations of themes from the Bible. Generally, Alan Paton has ingeniously placed biblical allusions to emphasize the relationship between man and God. Imagine an eden where the grass is rich and thick . The novel opens with visual imagery of a scene of paradise. Unfortunately, over time the streams dry out and too many cattle feed upon the grass (Paton.1). This alludes to the Garden of Eden. It was a perfect paradise for Adam and Eve, but because of their sin, they could not stand upon it (Paton.1). When Paton is describing the beautiful land, the narrator commands not to stand upon it[, wearing] shoes, for the ground is holy, being just as it came from God (Paton.1). This statement represents with the story of Moses in which he could not walk towards the burning bush with his shoes on. He is commanded to remove them before approaching the bush. The first chapter of Cry, the Beloved Country is filled with allusions pertaining to the early Old Testament of the Bible. Paton uses a well known Bible verse from Isaiah as is well fits the theme of man s relationship with God and how man s morals have been destroyed in Johannesburg. The narrator hopes that God will open the blind eyes, [and] bring out the prisoners from prison (Paton.122). He may very well be referring to literal prison, where people are held due to wrong doings, or, this may correspond with the African Americans who do not have the rights they deserve. God has called [Kumalo] in righteousness and will hold [his] hand (Paton.122). Paton is trying to show that Kumalo has fear about Johannesburg, but God will be with him and will not leave his side. Regardless of which interpretation of this quote is used, both symbolize important elements of the story in order to enhance the book, and engage the readers. Throughout the plot, Stephen Kumalo, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He fought for his people, for the children, and the kin, and not even the land, because the land was worth the war, but the people were, General Lee says (Shaara 263). Managers of large banks, professional investors and federal regulators have all been named as potential creators of the recession, with varying degrees of guilt. In the lead up to the current recession, when the real estate market began to fall, there were so many investors shorting stocks and securitized mortgage packages that were already falling, that the market simply fell further. There were no buyers at the bottom, and the professional investors made millions off of the losses of others. Beyond this, there was no real federal regulation for securitized mortgages, since there was no real way to gauge the mathematical risk of any given package. This allowed the investors to take advantage of the system and to short loans on real people s homes. Once these securities were worthless, many of the homebuyer s defaulted on their mortgages and were left penniless. No matter from which angle this crisis is looked at, the blame rests squarely with the managers who began the entire cycle, the ones who pursued the securitization of mortgages. Their incompetence not only led to the losses of Americans who have never invested in the stock market, but to losses for their shareholders. These losses necessitated governmental action in the financial markets. Companies such as Lehman Brothers and Bear Stearns lost all of their stock s value and were forced into bankruptcy. Similarities Between Alexander The Great And Julius Caesar Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar Of the classical civilizations of Greece and Rome came the leaders Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar. They are still inspiring the world today because of their legacy that they left behind, that include how they each obtain their power, how they ruled over their people, and success and failures of each. Alexander the Great was the son of King Philip II who obtained his power over the kingdom of Macadamia when his father was assassinated in 336 B.C. One of Julius Caesar s biggest success was taking over Rome and proclaiming himself emperor, although not directly. Julius Caesar had to work hard to climb up the political ladder to get to the top. Once there, Pompey tried to sway him to go back to a private citizen, he refused and marched his army to Rome. He built Rhine Bridge in only ten days, another major success, and threw Pompey out of power. Although Julius Caesar was determined to obtain power, once he got it, it didn t last for much. His biggest failure was not listening to his advisors of the assassination that was bound to happen. That one mistake is what not only cost his life, but the power that he worked so hard to obtain. The pedal has the ability to remold itself to a person s walking gait. This means that the structure of everybody s pedal in the world is a little different. Your pedal is what allows you to stand, and keep your balance when walking and running. The leg connects to the pedal to form the joint referred to as the ankle. The ankle is a joining between the two lower leg bones, the tibia and fibula, and the talus bone of the pedal. High heels shift your center of balance forward. Your tarsal bones will shift and your arch will change. Consistently wearing high heels can also affect the structure of your legs and lower back. The shift of your weight to the tip of your pedal means that your center of balance shifts forward as well. This leads to numerous problems throughout the inferior portion of the body. The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing. One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. In 1994, under the promise to establish a new government, there was a Russian invasion. They attacked from 3 separate fronts, heading straight for the capital of Grozny. The Chechen military was in shambles, using outdated Soviet technology. Their Air Force and multiple airfields were ruined in air strikes, just hours into the war. Their non existent army was now merely untrained rebels, with old Soviet weaponry, and little to no knowledge of battlefield tactics. The Russian troops weren t too happy about this either, many of which weren t even told where they are going, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Steven Spielberg s Jaws and Ridley Scott s Gladiator Essay Steven Spielberg s Jaws and Ridley Scott s Gladiator The two films being examined are the thriller Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, and the action film Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott. Both directors create epic films; the films are momentous and are designed to manipulate the emotions. A thriller is intended to appeal to basic human instinct to the need of feeling fear and survival. Action movies are designed to appeal to our sense of danger: pace and experience is something we want but don t have in our everyday lives to this extent. Both films are examples of media, which manage to induce you into a certain way of thinking: Jaws into being scared and Gladiator into sympathising and rooting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the Barbarians enter the scene they all appear uncivilised and disorganizes in comparison: the fact they behead the messenger reinforces this. When the battle begins, the camera flicks around at a frenetic pace, showing the chaos of battle. As Maximus enters on a horse, the light is streaming through the trees making him appear a hero, a ray of hope in the dark. As he begins mercilessly killing Germanians the director manipulates the audience into condoning the slaughter, and what is more, willing him to kill further lending credibility to his role. In Jaws, the shot opens on the beach with the campfire at night. It s a familiar setting; the teenagers are all stereotypically middle class college kids , very warm and relaxed. The director designed the scene to provoke a recognizable combination to the audience, to convey how normal and plausible it is. When the female and male leave the group the group, the colours change; the scene becomes dark and the characters become silhouetted against the moonlight. The silence is emphasised by the sound of the waves and the bell. The atmosphere is eerie and indefinite: the sea is calm. The female actress is silhouetted as she swims. Her friend has passed out at this point, obviously beyond giving any help, which increases the sense of her isolation and vulnerability. As the camera closes in for a close up ... • 42. Critical Appreciation Of Slumdog Millionaire The Western part of the world is unaware of how extreme poverty is on the East. Slumdog Millionaire makes this clear in the film by showing the different parts of Mumbai and how the whole community basically works together as a whole to stay alive. It is sad to see that the people there live in aluminum shacks with cloth hovering over some of them as if it were like a door. It is also scary to see how the Hindu s come and attack the Muslims to kill them because of the religious war. Despite these horrific parts, this film brought attention to real life situations which makes it one of the greatest moving movies of all time. Its success is based on many different categories, but its acting skills, plot, and theme really project its accomplishments. The first reason that this film is seen as so well is because of the actors skills. The way that the children naturally talk as if it were a conversation and act as if it was just a normal life, was truly unbelievable. In the scene where the children were playing cricket on the airport runway, they were all so happy and excited to be there despite all the circumstances and horrible events that happen within their lives. This is important to see because little kids have such a broad imagination that they do not worry about the events happening around them. One other scene that stood out is when Jamal calls his brother for help on a question, but Latika answers the phone. When he hears her voice, it was like he felt so relieved ... • 43. Analysis Of Colonialism By Walcott Colonialism s initial assumption or rather a presumption was to create a civilised and ordered world through establishing dominion over seemingly uncivilised and backwards countries. The colonial enterprise was justified based on the prevalent discourses of savage and primitive natives as reality was hidden due to a severe lack of historical narrative from the natives themselves. The white man s burden is to care for indigenous people who are unable to survive. This becomes a disguise for economic interests in colonisation. An important aspect of colonisation was to discover new lands and territories in order to accumulate them in their world. With the dawn of this age of discovery, new areas were found and the New World was formed. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is almost no romanticising of history as he depicts the bloody and gruesome truth behind colonial repression. His poems become the tools to appropriate history and rewrite colonialism from the perspective of the victims and not the colonisers. According to Walcott, colonialism caused a separation or division of self in Caribbean writers who have to struggle with the questions of identity. As Shara McCallum remarks: A poem exposes and defines the moment that a particular consciousness and language meet; and Walcott s poems tilt this moment of encounter toward the light in such a way that the gesture itself and the resulting poem often reveal the prismatic nature of identity. (23) Walcott admitted to being in a complex position of being stuck between a certain consciousness of gratitude to the Western world for his cultural and intellectual learning and his allegiance to his African lineage. This position is often represented in his work as it forms a hybrid identity for him. Many critics call this the schizophrenic situation of Caribbean identity as they are in between two drastically different cultures. In A Far Cry from Africa , Walcott overtly addresses his struggle to concretise his idea of identity: I who am poisoned with the blood of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Economic Causes Of The First Anglo-Dutch War In the seventeenth century, overseas trade was vital for the European countries as the circulation of currency and commodities allowed nations to function. Rommelse claims in his article that this interdependence of nations caused by necessary trading lead to a rise in economic influence in politics which in turn lead to economic conflicts becoming wars between nations. I agree with his point, and believe this fact is best exemplified in Anglo Dutch relations. The first two Anglo Dutch Wars were dominated by economic conflict, but after the treaty of Breda in 1667, economic interests showed a less prevalent effect in Anglo Dutch political relationships and the third Anglo Dutch war was unique as its cause was purely political. The English Civil War began the conflict that would lead to the first Anglo Dutch war. The Parliamentary forces were largely protestant, and the parliamentary forces reached out for an alliance with the Dutch Republic to form a bond with the only protestant nation. Rommelse states that the Dutch republic realized that an alliance with England would allow for English aggression in claiming previously Dutch only trading routes. This fact is further supported by an article written by J.E. Farnell. The protestant forces now in control of England were angry at the rejection of an alliance, and in 1651 passed the Navigation Acts with the sole purpose of hurting Dutch trade with the rest of Europe. By limiting who could carry English goods or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Pros And Cons Of Transforming Iraq Transforming Iraq and Syria into liberal, democratic, capitalist, and secular nation states will not be an easy task. It more than likely will not work at all, based on historical evidence. We will have to find a way to connect with all kinds of people. People of different religions, backgrounds, and cultures. The people of Syria and Iraq have not taken to western ideologies well in the past, and I have trouble believing that they will in the present. There is too much conflict among the people within each country for me to believe they would easily reform to western ideologies. They cannot even decide among themselves how to live peacefully. There have been many attempts to try and westernize Syria and Iraq. In 1917, the French and British mandated several small states, including Iraq. Britain and France led on Hussein Ibn Ali, making him believe that the Arabs would gain that land. This was proven to be untrue. When it was shown that the British and French would rule their way and not fulfill their promises, Hussein created the Arab Revolt, which fought for the land stolen from them. This was one example of unsuccessful westernization of Iraq. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
