Shooting A Bow Lab Report
Shooting a bow largely involves the use of the upper extremity. Between the needs of stabilization and
torque, many muscles in the upper extremity are utilized to perform an effective shot. However, the
lower extremity is also involved in bow shooting mechanics. Muscles in the lower extremity perform
both concentric and eccentric contractions to stabilize the body during all phases of shooting a bow.
Therefore, shooting a bow involves complex contractions of muscles throughout the body. In the next
few pages the joints and the muscular involvement of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist during bow
shooting will be discussed in depth.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, the involvement of the upper extremity will be discussed in
detail as it relates to its function in the action of shooting a bow. The shoulder plays a huge role in
drawing the bow and keeping the string pulled back. The joints of the shoulder are vital when
performing these actions. The joints involved include: the sternoclavicular joint, ... Show more content

The prime movers in the left shoulder that move it back to its neutral position are the anterior deltoid
and the bicep brachii. Concentric contractions followed by eccentric contractions of both of these
muscles move the shoulder from extension and abduction to it neutral state by flexing and adducting
the shoulder. The prime movers in the right shoulder are again the anterior and middle deltoid along
with the supraspinatus that contract isometrically to keep the shoulder in horizontal abduction. When
the right shoulder is let down after follow through, the prime movers are the triceps and the posterior
deltoids which eccentrically contract to extend the shoulder to its neutral position. Therefore the
muscles of the shoulder are exceedingly imperative to the action of shoot a

Language As An Image Of Reality
Ashley Newman
Phil 422 Prof. Livingston Language as an Image of Reality
Wittgenstein s the Tractatus and Plato s Cratylus are two works that offer remarkably comparable
theories. The Tractatus uses propositions to establish a theory regarding language and Plato uses
names in the dialogue Cratylus to develop a similar theory. Using propositions and names,
respectively, the two philosophers develop arguments showing that there is an extreme parallel
between language and pictures. After Plato discloses the origination of names and Wittgenstein looks
at the composition of propositions, the two philosophers are able to assess the relation between names,
propositions and reality. The relation of names and propositions to reality leads ... Show more content

He determines that names are composed of smaller parts, letters and vowels, which correspond to the
elements that compose the thing it is naming. Socrates begins by focusing on first names. First names
are determined to be the names from which all other names are composed. If all other names come
from these first names though, how then are first names decided? This brings Socrates to acknowledge
the importance of breaking down these first names into their elemental forms of letters and syllables.
Because there are no names before first names that offer a way to name first names, he decides each
letter and syllable of a first name must correspond to an element of which it is composed. For example
h might correspond to being made of flesh.
He relates this concept of a name being composed of smaller things making up a whole to the art of
painting when he says, It s just the same as it is with painters. This is a parallel that is easy to

The Importance Of Arts Education
Yes. Art is an important class. Everywhere you look you see artworks. Arts are everywhere today in
our life it became the important part of our daily life. Arts education helps students develop creativity,
visual learning, self confident, decision making, improved academic performance, and self motivation,
all of which are necessary to be successful in life. Arts education isn t something we add on after we
ve achieved other priorities, like raising test scores and getting kids into college, said the First Lady
Michelle Obama. Art education is important for future students. Art allows students to learn about
themselves, their culture, their community and the world around them. The creativity and imagination
of students will be pushed through the development of art. Art uses science, math, creativity, and
ideas. Art uses math because math involves shapes and angles and etc. and when people make an art
project with geometric shapes they use math to find what is this angle worth? Science needs art
because art helps people to understand what they are learning in science classes. Scientists always use
and draw models which includes art. Body(200 250 )

Nitration of Methyl Benzoate
NITRATION OF METHYL BENZOATE Purpose: The main objective of this experiment was to
synthesize methyl nitrobenzoate from methyl benzoate, using the mixture of nitric and sulfuric acid by
performing the process of electrophillic aromatic substitution. During this reaction, the combination of
HNO3 and H2SO4 made a nitrating solution. The crystallization was done to accomplish pure
product. The melting point and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) were performed to test the purity
of the product. Using the methyl benzoate reaction product, methyl nitrobenzoate, one can determine
the meta substituted, para substituted and orthosubstituted of the final products. Furthermore, HNMR
and IR used to investigate the quality of the product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would indicate that during the recrystallization there was a reduction in the percentage yield of
the production. The obtained final product melting point rang was 76.2 780C. This would show that
the experimental melting point was very close to the literature value of 78 80°C which denotes the
meta substituted of the product. So, the analysis of the melting point confirmed that the product was
methyl meta nitrobenzoate as it was anticipated. Additionally, use of the melting point analysis shows
that NO2 group could be added to the methyl benzoate at the meta position successfully. The ortho
and para products could have been also analyzed during the experiment; however, they were not
chosen for the product (methyl benzoate) because they have unstable resonance forms that have
positive charges near one another. The two positive charges that are next to one another can make the
product to be unstable and as result ortho and para substituted products are not favorable in this
electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. Also, an IR of the product confirmed that methyl m

Essay Assignment #2 The LGBT community in the United States has always had massive difficulty
fitting into our society. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of
abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for
the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the
hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the
values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh
but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This
historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from
those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has
always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that
homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal
rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT
couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. Many people gay or straight who
fought for gay rights believe these is pure discrimination and that stores should not have the right to
deny service for any customer for any reason. However, this belief is unconstitutional and goes

Analysis Of The Physician-Patient Relationship
Within their paper, Childress and Siegler expand upon five models of physician patient relationships
that are omnipresent within the healthcare setting: Paternalism, Partnership, Friendship, Contract, and
Technical Assistance (Childress and Siegler 74). By using these models, physicians often use these
social frameworks to appeal to ethical principles related to informed consent or shared decision

substantial purpose of using these models is to help alleviate the excruciating effects of disease, there
are drawbacks to these models where efforts to respect patient autonomy may aggravate a patients

Incontinence poses particular risk factors as both urine and faeces have detrimental effects on the skin.
This can lead to incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD) and pressure ulceration. (Flynn, 2011,
p.553). One of the basic skills that nurses have is to be able to provide appropriate skin care to
patients. This article discusses the some of the factors that can cause skin breakdown on patients.
There are four main factors that contribute to skin breakdown in reference to incontinence: moisture,

Data Integrity And Availability Techniques
Abstract For many computing systems, database technologies are an essential component. They
permit data to be reserved and shared electronically and the quantity of data retained in these systems
continually develops at an exponential rate. As organizations upsurge their dependence on, possibly
distributed, systems of information for daily business, they develop the vulnerability to security
breaches even as they get efficiency and productivity advantages. However, numerous techniques like
encryption and electronic signatures, are presently available for data protection whenever transmitted
across the sites, an actually comprehensive tactic to protect data must also contain mechanisms to
enforce access control policies centered on data contents, characteristics and subject qualifications,
and other relevant appropriate information, like time. It is currently well recognized that the semantics
of data has to be taken into consideration so as to stipulate effective policies of access control.
Moreover, data integrity and availability techniques must be adopted that specially tailored to database
systems. In this regard, for many years, the community for database security has developed various
different techniques and approaches which assure data privacy, integrity, and availability. However, in
spite of such advancements, the database security zone faces numerous inventive challenges. The
security concern evolution, the disintermediation of data access, novel computing

The Things A Brother Knows Analysis
The Things A Brother Knows is written by Dana Reinhardt. Life after a war can be tragic and nothing

can traumatized and stunt the life of any man and cause problems that nobody but ourselves can solve.
Levi sets out on an adventure to help his brother return home and he isn t gonna let anything get in the
way. The reason why I believe this book stands out from others, is because the plots scheme is that out
of the ordinary. There is no other book out there that matches its unique qualities.
Fear is what drives most people to break, but to some it is what drives them to become the person they

Reading the book gave me a rush that pushed me to keep reading. The book teaches of valuable
lessons about life and dedication. In the story, Levi could have given up halfway through his journey
because that seemed like the only option, but he pushed forward and never quit. Boaz made a promise
to one of his friends that he had met over in Iraq. He takes on a journey that he has spent weeks
preparing for. Levi joins in on this task and only does it because he wants to help out his brother.
Throughout the story, you watch Levi go through with life and mature when he needs to. He steps up
and faces all his challenges head on. Life is what happens to you while you re busy making other
plans. (Lennon. Reinhardt 6) I like the quote they used in the book because it really explains life in a
couple of words. It describes a process that could happen at the blink of an eye, or one that could take
time to occur. It shows the beauty of nature. Reinhardt did a good job at describing the little details
that orchestrate the plot of the story, and at the same time she kept it simple enough to keep you
reading. The theme of this book, I believe, is wanting to mature too quick. The story revolves around
wanting to fill shoes that have never been yours. Levi focuses so much on what everyone else is doing
that he forgets to enjoy himself and focus on his own

Living In New York City
New York City, the American dream s shining icon and the cultural mixing pot, was just a name I
knew when I was young. Nine years ago, I finally set foot in the fabled city when my family
immigrated to the United States. The gigantic airport, JFK International, spanned miles and its
terminals stood proudly over the jumbo jets below. That night, nausea from the plane s descension and
the entropic motions of my aunt s Jeep dissuaded me from seeing the outside world. I rested my head
on my mom s lap while imagining what the city was like. Just a few days ago, I lived in ShenZhen. On
the opposite side of the Hong Kong, ShenZhen shared much of its prosperity. Thus, I believed that
New York City is no different from where I lived. However, I wanted to see the subway system that
many other cities modeled after. I was also interested in learning the American culture, such as
religions and holidays. The concept of religion was alien to me, partly because most people in China
were atheists. I woke up early in the morning, eager to see the snow outside and all the foreign
novelties. In the kitchen, my aunt and cousin were making toast and took out glass bottles of Snapple.
After breakfast, I conversed with him in broken English. We had many common interests, namely
video games and biking. So adhering to those, I spent the next few days growing accustomed to the
new city. New York City, in its grand size, cannot be explored in a few days or weeks. Its complexity,

There is a joke if somebody is late to say that person is in Hispanic or Latino time. Usually American

their own people, and it is very common to visit them without be announced and usually coffee will be

3. What is the difference between diversity and inclusion?
The difference between diversity and inclusion are, diversity means the variety of people. They have
different ways to think, different culture, ideology, gender, age, education, and others. In a labor
environment is important to take in consideration the diversity into the workforce to obtain a higher
productivity. Companies evaluate the employees skills to determinate in what areas inside the
company they will have a better performance on their duties. It is a way to improve the relationships
between employers, customers, and vendors. Inclusion means all the employees collaborate in the
progress to make the company to success with their valuable input. It is important to listen somebody

Theme Of Revenge In The Crucible
Expense of Revenge in the Conclusible Crucible Abigail stands outside her uncle s home, her rage and
anger at Elizabeth has reached its boiling point. She hears many voices inside the house, The judges of
the trials are here, she thinks to herself. She stares down at the needle in her hand, it looks just like the
one she saw Mary sewing with in court that morning. She thinks back to Elizabeth, that repulsive, vile
woman that took her John away from her. Without reluctance now she stabs the needle into her
stomach and stumbles into the house. The Proctor s fate has now been sealed and there was nothing
the Proctor s could have ever done to have stopped it. Theme of revenge is better portrayed in the film,
The Crucible, than the play by Arthur miller of the same title. The film, The Crucible, far succeeds in
depicting the emotions of revenge. The book tries to accomplish this but cannot display the
complexity of revenge that the movie does so well. As the film opens, Abigail, the niece of the pastor,
is shown with many other girls sneaking out to the woods late at night. Tituba, the slave of the pastor,
begins a ritual with the girls where they may make a wish (The Crucible). Abigail whispers her wish
to Tituba, Tituba in shock tells Abigail she will not take the wish request. Abigail becomes irrational,
and the scene spirals out from there. Unfortunately, Miller never included this scene in his play. This
event sets up the entirety of the Salem Witch Trials and all that

Aspiration Pneumonia Essay
Introduction
Background and Significance Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that is described as an abnormality
in transferring a solid or liquid bolus from the oral cavity to the stomach (Bernard, Loeslie, Rabatin,
2015). With a diagnosis of dysphagia, a patient will likely aspirate foods and/or liquids of different
consistencies. Aspiration is the entry of food or liquid into the airway below the true vocal folds
(Logemann, 1998, p. 5). Specifically, thin liquid dysphagia occurs when a patient aspirates while
consuming any liquids that are not thickened, such as water. Patients with thin liquid dysphagia are
often prescribed a modified thickened liquid only diet, meaning they consume liquids that are
thickened to a greater consistency of nectar, honey, or pudding (Carlaw et al., 2007). An increased
viscosity reduces the flow rate of a bolus, makes it more cohesive, and is easier for many people to
control intraorally, thus preventing spillage into the airway (Murray, Miller, Doeltgen, Scholten,
2013). Dysphagia can also contribute to the occurrence of aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration
pneumonia occurs when organisms infiltrate the lower respiratory tract during an episode of aspiration
and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most commonly used free water protocols is The Frazier Free Water Protocol (FWP)
developed by the Frazier Rehabilitation Institute (Langdon, 2009). This protocol allows patients with
dysphagia to have oral intake of water between meals, even while prescribed with a thickened liquids
diet. Initially, the purpose of the FWP was to increase compliance of patients on modified diets;
however, more recently, researchers are claiming the positive outcomes of increased hydration levels
(Bernard et al, 2015). Patients on thickened liquids only diets often complain often show disapproval

Opium Wars Unfolded And Their Effects On Others
How the Opium Wars Unfolded and Their Effects on Others The Opium wars were a series of
conflicts mainly between China and Britain. The dispute was over the legalization of the Opium trade.
China s people were severely suffering from the effects of the Opium. Britain had been illegally
moving opium from India into China. A large mass of the public had become addicted to opioids and
the government sensed the problem. Due to the success of the opium trade, Britain refused to stop
bringing in the Opium. The conflict between the two countries sparked the two part Opium Wars. The
first Opium war resulted in many different unsteady treaties, many of which were seen as unfair to the
Chinese. The second Opium War was a result of British greed. The Chinese were preoccupied with the
Taiping Rebellion, so the British decided to take advantage of the situation and push the opium trade
further, resulting in further conflict. The French decided to join the British in the fighting, and the
Chinese were left defeated and forced into negotiations. Both wars resulted in series of treaties, but
each war s treaties had different impacts and affected people in different ways. After the first Opium
War, China had to give up a lot in order to bring peace with Britain. A series of treaties were signed.
The first treaty was signed in August of 1842 in Nanjing. This treaty was known as the Treaty of
Nanjing. There were many parts to this treaty, but there were zero benefits to China. The

Muslim Women in the Entertainment Industry
Imagine a world immersed in beauty, wealth, gloss, and fame. I may be generalizing, but lets just say
it s a world in which you are born with a streaming talent that most individuals could only dream of.
You constantly have hordes of spectators cheering your success and everyone wants to be your friend.
The greatest fear of most women seems to be being hideous or lacking capacity and you have no idea
what that feels like. Seems spectacular, doesn t it? If you are a female actress or singer in the North
American region then you probably know it is your cluster that I am referring to. Of course, what I

Taking part in movies that portray love scenes or god forbid, kissing, is horrifying and according to
the extremists in Islam, the women who indulge in these acts are no better than trash. It is true that
religious zealots are not the only ones who speak out about women in the entertainment industry, but
their voice is heard louder than anyone else s in the Muslim world. Their voices are so loud in fact,
that there is now an undeclared set boundary that female singers and actresses are expected to respect
and obediently stay within in the Islamic society. Things such as incorporating sexual moves in a
dance or being l?? lyrics in an album or track, depicting a sexually charged character a show, or even
displaying skin while dancing or performing are all extremely looked down upon by the Islamic
community. Although I am not endorsing all of these things (too much skin can get a bit
uncomfortable to watch), I am suggesting that these females are too restricted within their own career
by being told how to act and behave.
The intention of Islam is not to purposely discriminate against actresses and female singers. In fact, its
intentions are pure and honorable. The origin of dressing purely and conservatively on television and
in music came from the act of wearing the hijab, or the headscarf. Intended to shield women from the
wandering eyes of the evil intentioned men, the act of wearing the scarf was initiated for the

Romeo And Juliet Figurative Language
William Shakespeare was a 16th century playwright that wrote many famous plays. One of his most

Summary Of The Theme Of A Inferior Of King George
From both of these eserpts, it is easy to find the similarities between the two themes. In Redburn, His
First Voyage, the theme is the confrontation between innocence and corruption; the readers experience
this as they read about him leaving home and the hardships he faces on his journey. In A Salior of
King George, it also shows theme indicating the slow corruption of innocence. This is determined
because in the exerpt it tells of a boy that wants to join the Navy and it even says that he is excited
about somthing he knew nothing about. In these words it gives indication that although he is excited
about joining the Navy, he knows nothing about the heartache and pain he is about to be faced with,
this is his innocence and in alot of ways his ignorance. There are many similiarities within both of the
themes of the excerpts that pull the stories together. However, there are still many differences between
them that are hard to ignore.
The similarities that I found between the two include the theme of corruption of innocence, the setting
revolving around voyaging on boats, and that in both of these stories they tell the tale of boys
becoming men through harsh and unforgiving circumstances. In the exerpts Redburn, His First Voyage
and A Salior of King George both of the stories share a similar theme which is that of the corruption of
innocence, this is seen in the first exerpt as Redburn leaves his home and realizes that the world is
cold and unforgiving. Redburn leaves his

The Muscular Dystrophy Was First Discovered By Guillaume...
Duchenne muscular dystrophy was first discovered by Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne in the
1860 s, but due to lack of medical knowledge little was known until the 1980 s. It was in 1986 that
researchers that were supported by the MDA, muscular dystrophy association, identified the particular
X chromosome that leads to DMD, Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Dystrophin is the protein that is
associated with the gene and was named in 1987.The DMD gene is the second largest gene to date,
and it produces dystrophin.(Genome, 2013) Lack of the protein Dystrophin in the muscle cells causes
them to weaken and become fragile. (MDA, 2015). DMD is an inherited disorder, but there are rare
cases where it can spontaneously appear in a child with no previous family history due to a random
mutation in moms X chromosome. DMD is a gender specific disease that only appears in males.
Females are carriers in their X Chromosome and they have the chance of passing the disease on to
their children, 50 50 to a girl and 50 50 to a boy. If the girl does receive the gene she becomes a
carrier. If the boy gets the gene then he has the disease. Males do not pass on the gene to their children
because they pass on the Y chromosome and the disease is X specific. Some female carriers have
indicators of being a carrier by having symptoms of cardiomyopathy, shortness of breath during
exercise, and muscle weakness in the back, arms, and legs. There have been very rare instances where
a girl has not received a

it changed the world because it was capable of showing the world as it is. Instead of hearing stories
from people, people were actually able to see for themselves. Photography captured the truth and the

Like consumers, farmers do not have much choice either. Farmers plant crops that are demanded by
the global food market. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the
laborers. Also, it sometimes is all or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one
crop, for example coffee, and if something goes wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second,
unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much else a farmer could do if something
were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be making a lot of
money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit.
Because of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and
consumers have fought to control the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support
it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter two. This chapter was devastating because it talked
about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result because of it. Farmers cannot bare to
see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for generations and, frequently,
they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. Not only do these happen in

Bernie Sanders

Titled as Where We Go From Here speech, it was widely expected that Sanders would bow out of the
presidential race. Instead, the once quiet Democratic Socialist Senator who has now become a political
celebrity detailed his plans of what exactly he will be doing from now until next month s Democratic
National Convention on Thursday night transforming the Democratic Party with his political and
social revolution ideas.
As we head towards the DNC, I often hear the question What does Bernie want? Sanders said to over
a thousand of supporters gathered in The Town Hall venue near Times Square. This is not about what
Bernie Sanders want, it s about you and millions of other people who want a political revolution.
Framing out his convention platform fight, Sanders made clear the populist agenda he will push in the
upcoming convention. He specifically pointed to the rules and platform committee in seeking to
changes rules regarding to eliminating closed primaries and eliminate superdelegates.
As we speak, literally, there are meetings of the Democratic platform committee that will come out of
the Democratic convention that will be by far the most progressive platform in the history, Sanders

The, The Salem Witch Trials And The Civil Rights Movement...
It is often affirmed that as the most dominant species on planet earth, human beings essentially rule
the way in which our world has evolved; we have cognitive abilities that allow us to explore a
multitude of complex variables, utilize logic, formulate a wide range of choices, and act out our
decisions. However, even as highly logical creatures, humans have the propensity to be influenced by
the choices of others or information presented to them, form groups of like minded individuals, and
participate in behaviors they would likely not have undertaken on their own. This particular behavior
has been coined the mob mentality and under it, people appear to become mindless automatons that
lack any ability to act on their own thoughts. While there are perfect examples of mob mentalities
doing good, such as the pivotal march on Washington during the Civil rights movement of the 1960 s,
to something as simple as the yearly gathering of like minded individuals at the Burning Man Festival,
there are far more insidious examples such as the Holocaust, the Salem Witch trials, and Bacon s
Rebellion. In the realm of human behavior, each of these events is representational of what
psychology defines as a mob or herd mentality and this group behavior has been an intrinsic quality of
human civilizations throughout history. As such, this writer believes that Bacon s Rebellion is a prime
example of the negative implications mob mentalities are capable of generating. However the

The Theory Of Classical And Quantum Mechanics
If one thought that time and its direction reduce to some reductive base in fundamental physical
science one would encounter a perceived barrier viz., the fact that the underlying dynamical laws of
fundamental physical theory do not privilege the past or the future. If those laws permit certain
physical processes to be future directed or oriented, then they also allow for those self same processes
to be past directed or oriented. The dynamical laws are time reversal invariant. As Roger Penrose
stated, ...the dynamical equations of classical and quantum mechanics are symmetrical under a
reversal of the direction of time! As far as mathematics is concerned, one can just as well specify final
conditions, at some remote future time, and evolve ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, we have experimentally confirmed a violation of time reversal invariance in B0 meson
systems. Weakly interacting systems are anomalous for this reason. I will have more to say about how
to understand such systems in the context of discussing the arrow of time. For now, let s unashamedly
affirm that the fundamental dynamical laws are time reversal invariant, deliberately suppressing
worries about weakly interacting systems for the purposes of deliberation. Even though the dynamical
laws of our fundamental physical theories are time reversal invariant, there appear to be macroscopic
energetically isolated processes that are temporally irreversible. So the microphysics is such that it
suggests temporal symmetry, though macroscopic goings on suggest temporal asymmetry. To make
things worse, given an appropriately robust reductionist story in the background, macroscopic
phenomena depend in some strong sense on underlying microphysical phenomena. We should now
ask: what could be the source of...[the]...widespread temporal bias in the macroscopic world, if the
underlying microphysical laws are so even handed? This is the puzzle of the arrow of time. Why isn t
the temporal handedness accounted for by the phenomenon of weakly interacting systems previously
discussed? Answer: That phenomenon does not occur frequently enough to serve as

Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life
In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women
were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work
and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of
limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux
Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed
through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to
outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of
the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the
oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also
proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake
uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and
prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in
the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York
Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with
a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of
perpetual unrest, of

Teosinte Vs Corn
Corn (Zea mays) is one of the most widely produced crops in the United States and it provides more
than 40% of the world s corn (Benson and Gibson). The history of maize dates back to around 5,000
6,000 years ago due to the Native Americans domesticating the maize ancestor. In recent years and
after countless research, scientists are accepting the theory that corn comes from a wild plant called
Teosinte. The reason behind the skepticism is due to the traits of both plants; teosinte possess smaller
cobs, fewer rows of kernels and it has a smaller size overall. While it might seem plausible that it is
part of the maize family, it did not have enough similarities to proclaim it as the ancestor of maize.
However, thanks to works of multiple scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of changing natural processes to produce an ideal crop raises concern amongst
environmentalists. Extracting bacteria from soil and inserting it into an entirely different species may
appear unethical because of the changing of natural processes. Genetic engineering promotes
producing a type of crop that is not susceptible to pests, but carries the risk of decreasing genetic
variation (Green Peace). Once a crop is perfected, farmers then mass produce that specific crop, and
the different variations of the crop are lost (Green Peace). Another concern regarding the use of the Bt
protein is the increased risk of allergies (Smith). The transgenic protein comes from bacteria in the
soil, and thus raises the concern of allergic reactions to the corn. Consumers are worried that the cry
protein injected into Bt corn could have allergies unknown to them because of the cry protein s
characteristic of an extended digestion time. Consumers are also skeptical that genes of this antibiotic
resistance could somehow be introduced to other bacteria in the soil, and possibly infect consumers
with this bacteria. A major ethical concern of genetically modified crops, specifically Bt corn, is the

Language As An Image Of Reality Ashley Newman Phil 422 Prof. Livingston Language as an Image of Reality Wittgenstein s the Tractatus and Plato s Cratylus are two works that offer remarkably comparable theories. The Tractatus uses propositions to establish a theory regarding language and Plato uses names in the dialogue Cratylus to develop a similar theory. Using propositions and names, respectively, the two philosophers develop arguments showing that there is an extreme parallel between language and pictures. After Plato discloses the origination of names and Wittgenstein looks at the composition of propositions, the two philosophers are able to assess the relation between names, propositions and reality. He determines that names are composed of smaller parts, letters and vowels, which correspond to the elements that compose the thing it is naming. Socrates begins by focusing on first names. First names are determined to be the names from which all other names are composed. If all other names come from these first names though, how then are first names decided? For example h might correspond to being made of flesh. He relates this concept of a name being composed of smaller things making up a whole to the art of painting when he says, It s just the same as it is with painters. • 8. Nitration of Methyl Benzoate NITRATION OF METHYL BENZOATE Purpose: The main objective of this experiment was to synthesize methyl nitrobenzoate from methyl benzoate, using the mixture of nitric and sulfuric acid by performing the process of electrophillic aromatic substitution. During this reaction, the combination of HNO3 and H2SO4 made a nitrating solution. The crystallization was done to accomplish pure product. The melting point and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) were performed to test the purity of the product. Using the methyl benzoate reaction product, methyl nitrobenzoate, one can determine the meta substituted, para substituted and orthosubstituted of the final products. Furthermore, HNMR and IR used to investigate the quality of the product. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would indicate that during the recrystallization there was a reduction in the percentage yield of the production. The obtained final product melting point rang was 76.2 780C. This would show that the experimental melting point was very close to the literature value of 78 80°C which denotes the meta substituted of the product. So, the analysis of the melting point confirmed that the product was methyl meta nitrobenzoate as it was anticipated. Additionally, use of the melting point analysis shows that NO2 group could be added to the methyl benzoate at the meta position successfully. The ortho and para products could have been also analyzed during the experiment; however, they were not chosen for the product (methyl benzoate) because they have unstable resonance forms that have positive charges near one another. The two positive charges that are next to one another can make the product to be unstable and as result ortho and para substituted products are not favorable in this electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction. Also, an IR of the product confirmed that methyl m nitrobenzoate as a favorable. A peak located at 1536.1cm showed of the Aromatic C=C. At the 1351.8cm 1 there is a 1 presence of NO2. For many years they put up with constant mistreatment and other forms of abuse coming from the those who do not agree with their lifestyle. They have for long advocated for the acceptance of their existence and punishment for crimes committed against them. One of the hardest battles the community has had to face was the right to marry in a society that still holds the values of a traditional relationship which is between a male and female. The struggle was quite harsh but it all paid off by 2015 when the supreme court granted gay couples the right to marry. This historical decision did not go without outcry and criticisms. Most of the dissatisfaction came from those who hold very religious values and beliefs that claims homosexuality is a sin. Religion has always been a part of the American way of life since the nation s founding and with that homosexuality has been demonized throughout our society. Now that gay couple possess the legal rights to have a marriage license, religious companies and/or stores are now denying service to LGBT couples as they believe it sinful on their behalf to even take part. • 24. Aspiration Pneumonia Essay Introduction Background and Significance Dysphagia is a swallowing disorder that is described as an abnormality in transferring a solid or liquid bolus from the oral cavity to the stomach (Bernard, Loeslie, Rabatin, 2015). With a diagnosis of dysphagia, a patient will likely aspirate foods and/or liquids of different consistencies. Aspiration is the entry of food or liquid into the airway below the true vocal folds (Logemann, 1998, p. 5). Specifically, thin liquid dysphagia occurs when a patient aspirates while consuming any liquids that are not thickened, such as water. Patients with thin liquid dysphagia are often prescribed a modified thickened liquid only diet, meaning they consume liquids that are thickened to a greater consistency of nectar, honey, or pudding (Carlaw et al., 2007). An increased viscosity reduces the flow rate of a bolus, makes it more cohesive, and is easier for many people to control intraorally, thus preventing spillage into the airway (Murray, Miller, Doeltgen, Scholten, 2013). • 31. Summary Of The Theme Of A Inferior Of King George From both of these eserpts, it is easy to find the similarities between the two themes. In Redburn, His First Voyage, the theme is the confrontation between innocence and corruption; the readers experience this as they read about him leaving home and the hardships he faces on his journey. In A Salior of King George, it also shows theme indicating the slow corruption of innocence. This is determined because in the exerpt it tells of a boy that wants to join the Navy and it even says that he is excited about somthing he knew nothing about. In these words it gives indication that although he is excited about joining the Navy, he knows nothing about the heartache and pain he is about to be faced with, this is his innocence and in alot of ways his ignorance. There are many similiarities within both of the themes of the excerpts that pull the stories together. However, there are still many differences between them that are hard to ignore. The similarities that I found between the two include the theme of corruption of innocence, the setting revolving around voyaging on boats, and that in both of these stories they tell the tale of boys becoming men through harsh and unforgiving circumstances. In the exerpts Redburn, His First Voyage and A Salior of King George both of the stories share a similar theme which is that of the corruption of innocence, this is seen in the first exerpt as Redburn leaves his home and realizes that the world is cold and unforgiving. Duchenne muscular dystrophy was first discovered by Guillaume Benjamin Amand Duchenne in the 1860 s, but due to lack of medical knowledge little was known until the 1980 s. It was in 1986 that researchers that were supported by the MDA, muscular dystrophy association, identified the particular X chromosome that leads to DMD, Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Dystrophin is the protein that is associated with the gene and was named in 1987.The DMD gene is the second largest gene to date, and it produces dystrophin.(Genome, 2013) Lack of the protein Dystrophin in the muscle cells causes them to weaken and become fragile. (MDA, 2015). DMD is an inherited disorder, but there are rare cases where it can spontaneously appear in a child with no previous family history due to a random mutation in moms X chromosome. DMD is a gender specific disease that only appears in males. Females are carriers in their X Chromosome and they have the chance of passing the disease on to their children, 50 50 to a girl and 50 50 to a boy. If the girl does receive the gene she becomes a carrier. If the boy gets the gene then he has the disease. Males do not pass on the gene to their children because they pass on the Y chromosome and the disease is X specific. Essentially, farms are no longer owned by farmers and the farmers become the laborers. Also, it sometimes is all or nothing for farmers. For one, some land can only be used for one crop, for example coffee, and if something goes wrong with the crop, farmers lose everything. Second, unskilled labor jobs are dwindling, so there might not be much else a farmer could do if something were to happen to their land. It seems that when crops do well, farmers should be making a lot of money, however, the food processors and distributors are the ones who make most of the profit. Because of this, farmers are left with pennies compared to what the others make. Farmers and consumers have fought to control the food system, but what other choice do they have than to support it? The second section to be reviewed is chapter two. This chapter was devastating because it talked about the poverty that farmers face and the suicides that result because of it. Farmers cannot bare to see their families struggle or lose their farm that has been in the family for generations and, frequently, they use highly toxic pesticides used on their farms to commit suicide. • 38. The, The Salem Witch Trials And The Civil Rights Movement... It is often affirmed that as the most dominant species on planet earth, human beings essentially rule the way in which our world has evolved; we have cognitive abilities that allow us to explore a multitude of complex variables, utilize logic, formulate a wide range of choices, and act out our decisions. However, even as highly logical creatures, humans have the propensity to be influenced by the choices of others or information presented to them, form groups of like minded individuals, and participate in behaviors they would likely not have undertaken on their own. This particular behavior has been coined the mob mentality and under it, people appear to become mindless automatons that lack any ability to act on their own thoughts. While there are perfect examples of mob mentalities doing good, such as the pivotal march on Washington during the Civil rights movement of the 1960 s, to something as simple as the yearly gathering of like minded individuals at the Burning Man Festival, there are far more insidious examples such as the Holocaust, the Salem Witch trials, and Bacon s Rebellion. In the realm of human behavior, each of these events is representational of what psychology defines as a mob or herd mentality and this group behavior has been an intrinsic quality of human civilizations throughout history. As such, this writer believes that Bacon s Rebellion is a prime example of the negative implications mob mentalities are capable of generating. However the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Theory Of Classical And Quantum Mechanics If one thought that time and its direction reduce to some reductive base in fundamental physical science one would encounter a perceived barrier viz., the fact that the underlying dynamical laws of fundamental physical theory do not privilege the past or the future. Moreover, we have experimentally confirmed a violation of time reversal invariance in B0 meson systems. Weakly interacting systems are anomalous for this reason. I will have more to say about how to understand such systems in the context of discussing the arrow of time. For now, let s unashamedly affirm that the fundamental dynamical laws are time reversal invariant, deliberately suppressing worries about weakly interacting systems for the purposes of deliberation. Even though the dynamical laws of our fundamental physical theories are time reversal invariant, there appear to be macroscopic energetically isolated processes that are temporally irreversible. So the microphysics is such that it suggests temporal symmetry, though macroscopic goings on suggest temporal asymmetry. To make things worse, given an appropriately robust reductionist story in the background, macroscopic phenomena depend in some strong sense on underlying microphysical phenomena. We should now ask: what could be the source of...[the]...widespread temporal bias in the macroscopic world, if the underlying microphysical laws are so even handed? • 40. Gender Roles In Lillie Devereux Blake s Fettered For Life In nineteenth century America, there were strict gender roles and expectations that men and women were expected to conform to. Men were seen as dominant to women; while men were able to work and drink, women were expected to get married, follow orders from her husband, and live a life of limited freedom and personal choice. We see examples of these roles throughout Lillie Devereux Blake s novel, Fettered for Life, as we encounter different women in the text that are oppressed through physical abuse and lack of agency. However, Frank Heywood, the woman, manages to outsmart these rules by cross dressing to be a man. She s the only female in the novel to break free of the slavery of womanhood, and in the process uses her newfound freedom to act as a voice for the oppressed female population. Not only does Frank aid women and their oppression, but she also proves that women can do the work of a man, but are denied opportunities because of their sex. Blake uses Frank s character to demonstrate the ways in which gender roles are socially constructed, and prove that it s possible to break through the implemented social rules. Our first encounter of Frank, in the opening scene, leads us to notice something different about him. Reporting for the New York Trumpeter in the courtroom during Laura s trial, Blake describes him as having dark ernest eyes, with a strange expression lurking in their depths, an indefinable something hard to interpret...a look as of perpetual unrest, of ... The history of maize dates back to around 5,000 6,000 years ago due to the Native Americans domesticating the maize ancestor. In recent years and after countless research, scientists are accepting the theory that corn comes from a wild plant called Teosinte. The reason behind the skepticism is due to the traits of both plants; teosinte possess smaller cobs, fewer rows of kernels and it has a smaller size overall. While it might seem plausible that it is part of the maize family, it did not have enough similarities to proclaim it as the ancestor of maize. However, thanks to works of multiple scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of changing natural processes to produce an ideal crop raises concern amongst environmentalists. Extracting bacteria from soil and inserting it into an entirely different species may appear unethical because of the changing of natural processes. Genetic engineering promotes producing a type of crop that is not susceptible to pests, but carries the risk of decreasing genetic variation (Green Peace). Once a crop is perfected, farmers then mass produce that specific crop, and the different variations of the crop are lost (Green Peace). Another concern regarding the use of the Bt protein is the increased risk of allergies (Smith). The transgenic protein comes from bacteria in the soil, and thus raises the concern of allergic reactions to the corn. Consumers are worried that the cry protein injected into Bt corn could have allergies unknown to them because of the cry protein s characteristic of an extended digestion time. Consumers are also skeptical that genes of this antibiotic resistance could somehow be introduced to other bacteria in the soil, and possibly infect consumers with this bacteria.
