Changes Of American Society Involving Race Relations
Race relations in the United States have, for most of their history, been very rocky. Major changes
came about, with the American Revolution and new technology like the cotton gin revolutionising the
American economy. A large part of the American South s economy though was built on slave labour,
particularly going into the mid 19th century. Ideas of slavery and race changed over this period as new
ideas and changes to society came about. In this essay, I will be discussing changes in American
society involving race relations, focusing mainly on slavery and societies views of it, beginning in
1785 and ending in 1817.
A letter from Thomas Jefferson to his friends in Europe in 1785, gives us an interesting view of how
the upper, educated class in the late 18th century saw race relations. In it, he speaks mainly of native
people, and how in mind and body they are equal to the white man (8.5). He states that black people
are not equal to the white man in body or in mind though, but grudgingly admits that in a few
generations, if properly cultivated , could become equal in both mind and body to the white man (8.5).
This is an interesting view, because he believes that one day that African Americans could be equal
instead of always being inferior. Next is a confession from a slave, whose brother attempted a
rebellion which would take out the Governor of Virginia and free the other slaves who lived on
plantations nearby. It was discovered when some of the slaves confessed to

3. By what logic is filial piety the most important virtue for an emperor to possess?
The Canon of Yao from the Book of Tang is a reference to the sage King Yao. In his search for a
successor Yao s minister spoke of Shun of Yu and how his respectful, filial, approach towards his
parents helped them to a path of harmony and self control. This brought King Yao s attention to Shun.

The Bull-Leaping Art Analysis
The size of the left work, The Bull Leaping, is 30.8 x 41.1 (78.2cm x 104.5cm). And the size of
Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game is 21 7/8 x 13 3/8 (55.5cm x 34cm). The Bull Leaping is bigger
than the other one. While the left one has various color and the subject matters have the color, the right
one has only two color which is red and black. Since the artist described two figures with black paint
on the bright background, the artist used the negative space technique. Both artworks are expressed
humans, and they are playing a game.
In the artwork, The Bull Leaping, there is a bull on the center and tree protagonists. Two of
protagonists are women which one is in front of the bull, and the other one is behind the bull. The
other one has dark skin and is vaulting or leaping on the bull. The artist did not put the setting, but
there is a pattern as if a frame. From Achilles and Ajax playing a dice game, there are two soldiers

Amazing Benefits of St. John s Wort
Millions of people suffer from depression, and a lot of those choose not to treat their depression with
traditional medicine, instead reaching for a natural alternative. Dietary supplements are becoming
more and more popular instead of using drugs to treat numerous medical problems, and depression,
anxiety, and panic attacks are no different. When a supplement can treat depression as well as help
with other medical concerns, it can quickly become popular. If you suffer from any of these problems
and want to try to treat yourself without turning to a medical doctor for traditional medication, read on

HIIT Training Topic Paper
Aynslie Skye Glendenning
High intensity interval training has been gaining more recognition as a way to boost weight loss and
improve muscular, among other benefits. But what exactly is it? What is the science behind why it s so
effective? And what are the risks associated? (Kravitz, Ph.D., L. (2014). ACSM Information on High
Intensity Interval Training.)
According to the American College of Sports Medicine, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an
exercise done with periods of high intensity, these periods are done repeatedly, with small recovery
breaks. These types of workouts can be done in as little as 20 minutes, up to an hour. The high
intensity intervals can be done for 5 seconds, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this time period, the body uses more energy than normal because it is trying to restore everything
back to the level it was, before exercise. Because EPOC is more significant after HIIT workouts, it
allows the body to burn more calories. (Kravitz, Ph.D., L. (2014). ACSM Information on High
Intensity Interval Training.)
Recently, a study done by Hakan Westerblad explored why HIIT training is effective in terms of
building muscular endurance. He and his team analyzed muscle samples from participants engaging in
High Intensity Interval Training. The participants ...alternated between pedaling a stationary bike for
30 seconds at top intensity and resting for three minutes six times. (Park, A. (2015, November 03).
Interval Training: Scientists Explain Why It Works.) After analyzing the muscle biopsies, Hakan and
his team concluded that because of the HITT exercise, changes in the muscle occurred at a cellular
level. He says, When stressed by the extreme exercise, certain chemical channels in the muscle cells
that regulate calcium changes in the cells broke down. What we found was a breakdown of these
channels that was totally unexpected. (Park, A. 2015, November 03. Interval Training: Scientists

Segmented Assimilation Theory
Alejandro Portes and Min Zhou introduced the concept of segmented assimilation, which stressed a
three part path: assimilation for those with advantages in human capital, an ethnic disadvantage for
some because of poverty and racialization, and the selective retention of ethnicity for yet others.
Assessing present levels of assimilation among today s immigrant groups requires considering the
possibility that the process itself may be changing. To ascertain this, we must first understand three
major theories of immigrant and ethnic group integration. The theories are the classic and new
assimilation models, the racial/ethnic disadvantage model, and the segmented assimilation model. One
of the general, classic assimilation theory sees immigrant/ethnic

Slang And Its Effect On Everyday Life Essay
The use of slang in my life today is very evident. My roommates and I always talk slang during the
day and the night. I don t use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don t feel
the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them by
writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just
messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for educational
purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it may put upon
the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people might be just using it
for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of standard English. The book,
How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is used in everyday life and thrives
in places that involve pop music, athletics, narcotics, and other various factors (Curzan and Adams,
2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when they say slang thrives on these main
ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has slang involved in it. My roommates and I
normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing or even after they are done playing and use
slang without consciously knowing because it is in a song. Normally these songs get stuck in our
heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using slang almost every day. Most of the songs that

A basic theatre performance structure is as follows:
1. Prologue
Spoken by one or two characters before the chorus appears. The prologue usually gives the
mythological background necessary for understanding the events of the play.
2. Parodos
This is the song sung by the chorus as it first enters the orchestra and dances.
3. First Episode
This is the first of many episodes , when the characters and chorus talk.
4. First Stasimon
At the end of each episode, the other characters usually leave the stage and the chorus dances and
sings a Stasimon, or choral ode. The ode usually reflects on the things said and done in the episodes,
and puts it into some kind of larger mythological framework.
5. Exodos
The playwright determines how many Episodes and Stasimons there are in the play.
There were approximately 12 50 members in a chorus and usually only a maximum of 3 actors on
stage. The actors would alternate roles and would wear masks to identify their character. Women were
prohibited from acting; therefore men performed both roles of both genders.

Bacterial Communities Associated With Organic And...
Bacterial Communities Associated with Organic and Conventionally Grown Red Delicious Apples
Overview
Many studies have been done pertaining to ways to remove different types of bacteria from the fresh
fruits and vegetables that are commonly consumed. Currently there is little research available that
maps the types of bacteria commonly found on fruits and vegetables (Leff and Fierer 2013). Many
different standards have been set forth to measure produce quality with some of these standards
including a count of the coliforms, Escherichia coli, and the aerobic bacteria count (Wood et. al). This
study aims to compare the number of coliforms found on organic vs. conventionally grown Malus
pumila before and after washing with distilled water. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the biggest areas of this demand is in the produce department (Mukherjee et.al 2006).
Statically during this same time frame there has been an increase in foodborne illness stemming from
fresh produce. From the 1970s to 2006 the percentage of foodborne illness caused by fresh fruits and
vegetables went from 6% to 12% (Mukherjee et.al 2006). Due to these increased percentages of
foodborne illness, and data supporting more coliform bacterial colonies present on organic produce
than the conventional counter parts researchers are beginning to speculate that organic produce has a
higher risk to people s health then the conventional counterparts (Mukherjee et.al 2006).
There is still very little previous research comparing the microbial colonies found on organic vs
conventional produce to fully assess the possible increased health risks of organic produce. Another
area of lacking data that adds to the confusion is in the United States the number of foodborne illness
outbreaks have not been documented based on organic vs conventional produce (Mukherjee et.al
2004). In order to help control foodborne illness outbreaks an in depth understanding of the bacteria
commonly found on the produce needs to be known. If a core taxa of bacteria was known there could
be a comprehensive method of testing produce for any bacteria that is not typically found to be
present. Thanks to next generation sequencing of 16S rRNA amplicon a more comprehensive list can

The Principles of Communication
Communication is an ever developing topic in which human beings can express their feelings and
emotions on a daily basis whether they were positive or negative in the most suitable way. According
to Preja (2013) the term Communication can be traced back to the Latin word Communis which
stands for to be connected to or to be in a relationship with . Communication can be classified to two
types, verbal and non verbal. Verbal communication focuses mainly on vocals while non verbal
communication is innate and takes into account the speechless signals people do, not say, when
interacting with each other. It takes several forms, such as voice characteristics, body language,
chromatics and chronemics. In this report, the importance of non verbal communication concept will
be discussed as well as an explanation and examples of each of these types. Non Verbal refers to a
communication use no words but use haptics, proxemics ,kinesics and chromatics rather than words
spoken or written , it can give people s real feeling. However, non verbal communication is a use of
body language and paralanguage such as tone, laughter and facial expression. Acccording to Leemann,

hearing their voices even if they are not familiar, Such observations reveal that speakers carry
individual features in their voices ,the fact that human voices demonstrate their individuality can be

Job Stress Essay
Over the past few decades, many people are hearing more about job related stress. With many
households depending on duel incomes, people are working more and having less leisure time. Many

exhaustion, and many other related illnesses.
This paper will focus on the background issues surrounding stress; as well as, the steps that need to be

3. Excessive nervous energy and ability to accomplish more
King 3 work than usual ; (Bensahel et al., 1984, p. 135). During this stage, it is so pleasant that they
want to maintain it.
Unfortunately, it must be considered an early warning sign that energy reserves are being drawn down
(Bensahel et al.,
1984, p. 135).
During the second stage of recognizing stress, some of the more unpleasant effects begin to appear.
Energy reserves usually do not last through the day. Some of the symptoms include tiredness early in
the day, heart flutters and/or disturbance of bowel and stomach functions, tightness occurring in back
and head muscles, and not being to relax
(Bensahel et al., 1984 p. 136).
Tiredness becomes more apparent in the third stage.
There is more disturbance in bowel functions as well as stomach pain. Muscles become more tight and
there is an increased feeling of tenseness. Individuals usually experience sleep problems and have a
feeling of faintness.
For individuals suffering stress to this stage, medical attention is advisable. Unless one reduces the
demands causing stress, more serious problems will arise in the later stages (Bensahel et al., 1984 p.

Loss of Species Due to the Biodiversity Crisis
The seriousness of the current biodiversity crisis and the increasingly loss of species diversity have
aroused the boldness in conservationists to propose not so conservative solutions. Such as an attempt
to restore in our present environment the wildlife diversity lost in the Pleistocene period. This
proposal is incited by Donlan et al. (2006) that call for restoration of missing ecological functions and
evolutionary potential of lost North American megafauna using extant conspecifics and related taxa .
This essay will discuss the possible positive effects brought by the Pleistocene rewilding and its major
impediments. And it is perceptible that the obstacles in translocating species similar to those that have
been extinct for millennia in North America are so many, and its plausibility so controversial, that this
adventurous proposal requires a lot of reflection and scientific labor before being considered a
reasonable solution.
In the Americas, many mammals and their commensals were lost in the end of the Pleistocene epoch,
about 13,000 years ago (Martin 2005) and with them, many ecosystem processes and services were
lost. The Pleistocene rewilding intends to bring back the biodiversity that vanished 13,000 years ago,
reinstituting ecological and evolutionary processes that were transformed or eliminated by megafaunal
extinctions (Donlan et al. 2006). Pleistocene rewilders also advocate this conservation strategy based
on aesthetic and ethical grounds; they argue that

The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury
I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in
Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of
the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic
language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a
different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the
experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story.
Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s
significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s
youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and
physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes
shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The
leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10).
From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world.
The reader envisions the leopards and gathers that Doug s realization of his existence struck him
unexpectedly, leading him to be justifiably frightened. When Doug opens his eyes, the leopards

Emily Dickinson Death Be Not Proud
The poems Death, be not proud by John Donne, Because I could not stop for death , and I heard a fly
buzz when I died both written by Emily Dickinson are three timeless poems that present the theme of
death, in a very abnormal manner. In Death, be not proud John Donne approaches death by
addressing, personifying, and belittling death. Emily Dickinson s Because I could not stop for death
reflects Dickinson s metaphysical ideas on death to ease and persuade people to accept it. I heard a fly
buzz when I died also written by Emily Dickinson is an unsettling poem written from the perspective
of someone dying. All these poems uniquely examine death by lecturing it, accepting it, and imagining
it.

This poem is about the actual moment of death, something that most people do not want to think
about. The author bravely and brilliantly imagined her own death, which was unheard of in those
times. In the poem, Dickinson has signed her will, said goodbye to her loved ones, and then as she
heaves her last breaths, she becomes preoccupied by a fly trying to escape out of the room. I willed
my Keepsakes Signed away... and then it was There interposed a Fly (Dickinson) Some people think
this poem has a humorous tone because of the fly, but numerous people think this poem was not meant

Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup’s Loan Portfolio Essay
HBS Project:
Blackstone and the Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
Blackstone and The Sale of Citigroup s Loan Portfolio
In the second half of 2007, the banking industry and financial market showed signs of considerable
stress by raising the default rate of mortgage and the decline in the value of residential mortgage
backed securities. This had led to a re pricing of many debt instruments. By the end of 2007, Citigroup
declared that the fair value of its U.S. sub prime related direct exposure could decline by 20%. This
affected Citigroup s financial results and would incur further losses in the future.
One of Citigroup s main concerns was the risk of their exposure from holding leveraged loans. Due to
the increasing risks and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is reasonable that prices will recover, which, in the long run, would benefit Blackstone.
Why is the Citigroup seeking to sell the portfolio of leveraged loan?
Citigroup s leveraged loan exposure is composed of two main risks. First, holding these leveraged
loans could be costly from a regulatory capital perspective because they hold a 100 percent risk
weight. Citigroup would need $80 million of capital for every billion dollars of leverage loan. By
selling these leveraged loans, Citigroup would reduce capital requirement. Second, a decline in the
leveraged loan index (LCDX) value from 97 cents on the dollar to 92 cents on the dollar posed a $1.5
billion loss on its leveraged loan portfolio for the fiscal year ending on December 31, 2007.
Furthermore, Citibank did not intend to hold theses loans. Like many others, Citigroup had suffered
unprecedented losses and was facing the prospect of having even more considerable losses. By selling
these loans, the bank s image was greatly improved.

Why Is Aeschylus Called The Most Superior Greek Drama
Aeschylus, one of the first Greek dramatists, was born between 525 524 BCE, during the period that
the Athenian government was evolving from a tyranny to a democracy. Throughout his whole life, he
would alternate between serving in the military and performing and writing dramas. Every year,
Aeschylus would attend the Great Dionysia, a competition where three dramatists would perform their
dramas or plays and would get ranked from first to third place. Out of his ninety plays, he won thirteen
first place awards. Which means that he won about 42 awards because each tragedy entry consisted of
four plays. He died at age 69 between 456 455 BCE. Aeschylus deserves to have the title of the Most

The Impact Of Photography On The World Of Photography
The history of photography begin with the discovery that some substances are visibly altered by
exposure to light and can capture that reality on to metal or paper. From then on, many photographers
and scientists developed photography in to what it is now. There are many significant aspects of
photography in its first hundred years of history that formed and shaped the basis of photography
technically and artistically. Personally, the most significant aspects of the photograph lie in its
beginning when it all first started with the daguerreotypes and the calotype that opened the world of
photography which have lead the world to be what it is now.
The first widely usable photographic processes that was introduced to the public were the
daguerreotype and the calotype. There were precedents before the daguerreotype and calotype but it
wasn t commercially used and was more close to a research rather than an art form. Each method
produced technically different outcomes by using different methods but they devoted to the same
result: both processes would develop photography into what we recognize today as photography. The
two methods would inspired wide use of the camera, which presented problems with the photographic
technique. By having people solve these problems, the photography developed from its early stage,
big in size and complicated procedures, to the modern camera that we use, which are simple and easy
to use. Even though daguerreotype and calotype were developed during

Exploration Of Good And Evil In Rashomon
On one level Rashomon, by director Akira Kurosawa, is a classic whodunnit, a tale of rape, murder,
deceit and redemption. How was the samurai warrior killed and his wife violated in lonely woodlands
at a time of dissonance in medieval Japan? Suspects emerge and an inquisition is held. But why do all
players profess their guilt, rather than protest their innocence? Kurosawa has taken two stories (the
1950 film is loosely based on the works of writer Ryunosuke Akutagawa) and created a multifaceted
masterpiece peppered with shifts and contrasts. He delves into aggression and accountability to
explore the collective Japanese consciousness after World War Two. He considers the meaning of truth
and the judging of others. In doing so, Kurosawa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kurosawa unsettles at the outset with rain and gloom, then employs a series of rapid cuts to draw his
viewer into the heart of the moral dilemma. His is a radical experimentation with narrative marked by
dislocation and incompleteness (Goodwin, page 114). Kurosawa himself wrote: These strange
impulses of the human heart would be exposed through the use of an elaborately fashioned play of
light and dark (Akira Kurosawa, Something Like an Autobiography, p 182). It would be a keynote for
the entire film (Akira Kurosawa, Interviews, edited by Bert Cardullo, p. 176). That keynote is struck
as the woodcutter recalls the crime. Flashbacks were an unconventional way of constructing a
storyline, and Kurosawa s create a complex intertextual relationship. The woodcutter strides into
thicket, through full light, dappled light and shade, in an evolving montage of surety, uncertainty and
disquiet. The scene plays with long shots, pans, close ups and takes in high angles and laterals. The
segment is still analysed today for its technical and visual brilliance (Martinez, p 31). The shooting
script for Rashomon was littered with directions to create a sense of motion, to pan, to dolly in and
out, notes cinema expert Donald Richie (The Films of Akira Kurosawa, Donald Richie, pages 77, 78).
It is here that Kurosawa and cameraman Kazuo Miyagawa break one of cinematography s taboos

The Effect Of Electricity On The Early 1800s
This article explained how electricity was generated in the early 1900s. Burning coal in the city
centers produced electricity and also helped to heat buildings. Only people near from the city were
able to use electricity because there was not way to transmit the electricity to rural areas. After a long
time coal plants started to grew and people were facing difficulties because the coal plants occupied
space and they also produced pollution to the city. People decided to move coal plants to the outside of
the city in that way people would not be affected, they started to use transmission wires to carry
electricity. Even though they did not have the same efficacy to obtain electricity they were finding a
way to improve it. At the beginning of 1970 technology began to improve, so many mass produce
engines were produce and they can be located in the middle of the population, also decentralized
plants were used to recycle the wasted heat. After all these benefits of the new technology, industry

Later on, congress tried to open competition in 1978 and some independent power companies started

The Mexican American battle for civil rights has been long and difficult but alas necessary. Can you

absurd. The injustice that Mexican Americans have experienced in the past is undeniably
discriminatory. Justice and reasoning played an important part over the years in dismantling such

Flagstaff Arizona Mental Health Assignment
Introduction I thought a lot about this assignment. It was important, to me, that I gathered information
that would be applicable for the clients I will serve as a social worker. Here in Flagstaff Arizona, we
are fortunate to live in a community which celebrates cultural diversity. Flagstaff is home to a large
Latino, Diné and Hopi population. I wanted to critique a mental health assessment that I felt would be
culturally sensitive, appropriate and address the needs of these populations. Having said that, I
analyzed this intake form in terms of its usability for a variety of different cultures and populations. I
also aimed to assess the intake form in relation to sexual orientation and issues around gender identity.

I do not think there is always sufficient space to answer questions completely. For example, within the
Family Background and Childhood History section, there are questions asking the client to describe
their relationship with both their father and mother. Only one and one half lines are provided for this
response. A bit more space might encourage a better understanding of client concerns. I understand the
intake is intended to be brief but additional client explanation would be helpful. Should the intake be
re formatted so it is easier to read? Why? In general, the intake form is formatted thoughtfully. My
suggestion would be to expand certain areas, include a few more questions and provide a bit more
space between topic areas. One aspect I really appreciated was on the final page where space is
provided for the client to add any additional areas of concern. I reviewed quite a few intake forms for
this assignment and found very few that incorporated this aspect. What would you include? What
would you remove? Why? I do not feel there is anything I would remove but there is content I would
include. For example, in the beginning of the intake, a demographic section would be helpful.
Addition of this section would give the clinician further insight into the clients cultural systems.

Symbolism In The Giver By Lois Lowry
Have you ever wondered about the symbolism and central idea in The Giver?
For years people have pondered about the true theme and concealed symbols in the end of this
Newbery Medal science fiction book. In this novel, Lois Lowry uses several literary devices such as
imagery to send the message that hope can pull a person through their gravest of times while using
specific diction and anaphoras to show a more in depth meaning in chapter twenty three and to express
the voice at the end of this literary work. To begin with, Jonas used all the mental and physical
strength he had to ride on the sled to Elsewhere towards a brighter, better future to complete the
mission the Giver created with him. His actions in the end of the book show that his hope was strong
enough to get Gabe to Elsewhere, where the memories should have been released to all the citizens in
the Community. Lowry uses imagery such as The wind was bitterly cold. The snow swirled, blurring
his vision. But somewhere ahead, through the blinding storm, he knew there was warmth and light.
and The hill was steep but the snow was powdery and soft, and he knew that this time there would be
no ice, no fall, no pain. Inside his freezing body, his heart surged with hope. to elaborate on how Jonas
feels the need to push on forward to get to Elsewhere with Gabriel despite the fact that he is close to
dying from hypothermia. One way to understand the central idea in The Giver is to imagine that you

Ap World Cricket Dbq Essay
Cricket is all fun and games and can unite people together, but also break them apart. Cricket became
very popular in South Asia in the late 1800 s, and has played a large role in the life of these people
ever since. India was owned by the British, and in 1947 split in two independent countries, India and
Pakistan. India was predominantly Hindu, while Pakistan was primarily Muslim. Cricket is a part of
their culture, and has greatly affected their lives. Cricket is related to politics in both negative and
positive ways. It creates unity between people of different religions, but at the same time creates a
tension between the two different groups and exemplifies the political power the British have over

That is why things have become what they are on the cricket field today. That is why Quadrangular
cricket has degenerated into religious rivalry (Doc 7). The quote from an Indian sports journal
mentions that the Quadrangular tournament created a rivalry that was present after the split. This was
because people of different religions were separated into teams and wanted their main based religion
to win. The religion based teams were unfair, I have never understood the reason for having Hindu,
Paris, Muslim, and other religiously based teams. I should have thought that such unsportsmanlike
divisions would be considered taboo in language and sporting manners (Doc 8). This quote from
Ghandi is very reasonable. He s saying that it is unfair to have religion based teams, because it creates
an unhealthy rivalry. It s unsportsmanlike to separate the teams this way, and would cause the players
to not act as a team all the time. When Pakistan wins a cricket match and my country is defeated, why

Cakile edentula competes less aggressively when it grows in close proximity with its relatives. The
root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a
region where there is no genetic relatedness. The hypothesis the presence of close relatives in the plant
s environment does not change group or individual fitness was tested using another species, Lupinus

surrounded by relatives, one surrounded by unrelated individuals of the same area, and one
surrounded by unrelated individuals of different areas. Regardless of the growth environment, it was

This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the
mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual
Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by
competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown
in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower
than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007).
This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to
relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition
between relatives this would affect overall group fitness.
Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in
the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003).
This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group
fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success.

The French revolution was an event of epic proportions. At the outset, alike the English Civil Wars, an

The consequences would be devastating in the twentieth century.
Also, the successes in the battlefield would be significant on the spreading of new ideas and forms of
government; the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, the metric system, the introduction of
Civil marriage, and the Napoleonic Code. Many of these principles are still in use in our day.
When Napoleon assumed total control of the French state, he sought to expand French influence.
Indisputably, Napoleon was a gifted commander in chief; France s military was well organised,
adequately equipped and capably led. Unsurprisingly, the French established their military hegemony
in Europe. Napoleon played the role of kingmaker and amended the political landscape according to
his views. He terminated the Holy Roman Empire, redistributed land (for instance Bavaria greatly
benefited and Poland was given independence), Ironically, when Napoleon was defeated by
monarchies fighting to reinstitute the ancien regime in France, the ancien regime was not fully
reinstated. Many states preferred to keep the new administrative and legal frameworks; the French
legacy was maintained as it was more efficient. (Emsley et al, p. 24 25, 2011).
The French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire reintroduced the concept of elections in the form
of plebiscites for nationwide political affairs; Napoleon himself cleverly used the media and military
bulletins to augment his standing with the French nation. The difference

State University, Newark, OH, USA c International Enterprise Singapore, Singapore
Abstract
Based on an empirical study of 62 firms, this paper develops a two stage model describing knowledge
transfer from MNCs to their China subsidiaries. In the first stage, the model proposes factors affecting
the extent of knowledge contributed by an MNC to its China subsidiary. In the second stage, the
model proposes factors affecting the extent of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The development of the model is based on existing literature on FDI, knowledge transfer, and
organizational learning. It also draws heavily on findings from interviews with 62 firms, supplemented
with observations made of firms interviewed, and materials gathered from company archives and
publication. While existing literature enables the model to be deeply grounded in established theories,
data from the interviews of firms operating in China and other sources help us identify new variables
and discover unexpected relationships between variables (Glaser Strauss, 1967).
Detailed descriptions of the methods employed in our study are presented next.
1. Methods
1.1. Data sources
Our study collected data from three sources: interviews, observation and documentation. The primary
data source was interviews. We conducted semi structured interviews with 83 managers of 62 firms
(Table 1). These firms included 4 holding companies
(HCs), 17 wholly owned enterprises (WOVs), 30 equity joint ventures (EJVs), 2 contractual joint
ventures (CJVs), 1 representative office (RO) and 8 firms
169
with mixed forms of operations. Among the 30 EJVs,
18 and 7 were majority owned and minority owned by the MNC parents respectively, with the rest 5
of them being 50 50 EJVs. With the exception of two firms, which were from the service sector, the
rest of the 60 firms spanned various manufacturing

Abstract
Purpose Due to their high popularity, Weblogs and other social media sites provide a wealth of
information that can be very helpful in evaluating the customers sentiments and opinions. It is
therefore imperative to analyze them and filter out useful information that could be of economic
values to vendors and other interested parties. The purpose of this paper is to examine and analyze
online customer reviews about the products and thereby predicting the sales of the products.
Design/methodology/approach This paper employs a sentiment analysis approach by extracting online
customer reviews from twitter using twitter API. The extracted reviews have been classified as
negative, positive and neutral based on their sentiment polarity and a conceptual model is developed
to analyse the customers purchase intentions.
Findings The online customer reviews, both positive and negative, can affect the customers opinion
about the product. Purchase intentions of the customer after reading the product reviews depends on
the factors like customer s attitude towards the brand and consumer based brand equity. While
consumer based brand equity and customer s attitude are directly affected by customer s
persuasiveness for online reviews and prior

Examples Of Credential Expiration Notification
Thank you for your time on the phone today. As discussed, I will talk to the coordinators about a new
credential expiration notification process I developed, as well as give them guidance on
communication with site staff and supporting DONs and their leadership over their sites. I had
separate conversations today with Krista and Briana about their account of events. According to their
experiences there may have been a misunderstanding. Regardless, you concerns are important to me
and I believe developing a step by step process and standard of operations should alleviate the
potential for future issues. I want to share those processes with you so you will know what sort of

Cultural Differences Between Brazil And Brazil Essay
Culture
Religion
Not only did the Portuguese influence Brazil about languages, but also religion. The Portuguese
brought over their religion which was Roman Catholic. About 64% of the population ascribes to the
Roman Catholic faith. Other religions in Brazil included: other Catholic religions, Protestant,
Christians, Spiritism, and others. Only 8% of the population ascribe to no religion of any kind (Central
Intelligence Agency, n.d.).
Diversity
Brazil has a rich culture with a unique blend of cultural variations. Brazil is even seen as one of the
world s most varied and diverse countries. There is a mixture of Indian, African, and European blood.
There are currently more than 190 million people in Brazil. Half of the population is white, while 40%
are mixed black and white. About 10% are black.
Crime often haunts the country of Brazil. Brazil has several issues with crime. Some of the most
common crimes include muggings, robbing, kidnappings, and gang violence. Another serious problem
is the corruption in the law enforcement divisions. Many people will not report any incidents to the
police because of fear ( Brazil, n.d.).
Cultural Variations
The Brazilian have a class system, where discrimination of skin color occurs daily. Those with darker
skin are typically disadvantaged. Class is also determined by economic status. Those in the middle and
upper classes often have little to no contact with the lower classes. The richest 10% of Brazilians have
access to over 40% of

The story is about a ski instructor named Miranda who is having several issues with her new boss,
Hank because he has done and said many things over the course of the time that he has been there to
show that he may be sexist. This scenario has a lot to do with perception. Perception is defined as a
process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory impressions in order to give
meaning to their environment (Robbins Judge, 166). This paper will discuss what perception is and
how much of an impact in can have in the work place.
Miranda s perception of her boss Hank is that he is a sexist. The initial problem that is discussed is the
fact that she did not like the fact that as one of the most experienced ski instructors at ... Show more

Robbins and Judge claim that consensus happens if everyone who faces a similar situation responds in
the same way. (168). Miranda responds the same way after was told by Nancy s son that the people at
the front desk told him that she was not working that weekend I thought you weren t here today; that s
what the people at the front desk told me. (Cohen, Fink, Gadon, Willits, Josefowitz, 2013), and
another customer was told the same thing by the front desk people when she asked for Miranda the
following weekend, But the following weekend, another customer approached Miranda expressing
surprise that she was on the slope because the front desk has said that she had not shown up. (Cohen,
Fink, Gadon, Willits, Josefowit z, 2013). Miranda stayed optimistic thinking it was a mistake by her
boss. Consistency is when an observer looks for consistency in a person s actions. Does the person
respond the same way overtime? (Robbins Judge, 168). Hank is looking for consistency in his
employees as he wants the female employees to teach children while the male employees teach adults.
Overtime, Miranda asked a client to go to the front desk and book an appointment for private classes
with her saying Sure, why don t you just check with the front desk and let them know what you want?
(Cohen, Fink,Gadon, Willits, Josefowitz, 2013 ). The different errors and shortcuts that can influence
someone s perception are

  • 3. Changes Of American Society Involving Race Relations Race relations in the United States have, for most of their history, been very rocky. Major changes came about, with the American Revolution and new technology like the cotton gin revolutionising the American economy. A large part of the American South s economy though was built on slave labour, particularly going into the mid 19th century. Ideas of slavery and race changed over this period as new ideas and changes to society came about. In this essay, I will be discussing changes in American society involving race relations, focusing mainly on slavery and societies views of it, beginning in 1785 and ending in 1817. A letter from Thomas Jefferson to his friends in Europe in 1785, gives us an interesting view of how the upper, educated class in the late 18th century saw race relations. In it, he speaks mainly of native people, and how in mind and body they are equal to the white man (8.5). He states that black people are not equal to the white man in body or in mind though, but grudgingly admits that in a few generations, if properly cultivated , could become equal in both mind and body to the white man (8.5). This is an interesting view, because he believes that one day that African Americans could be equal instead of always being inferior. Next is a confession from a slave, whose brother attempted a rebellion which would take out the Governor of Virginia and free the other slaves who lived on plantations nearby. It was discovered when some of the slaves confessed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

But what exactly is it? What is the science behind why it s so effective? And what are the risks associated? (Kravitz, Ph.D., L. (2014). ACSM Information on High Intensity Interval Training.) According to the American College of Sports Medicine, High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an exercise done with periods of high intensity, these periods are done repeatedly, with small recovery breaks. To ascertain this, we must first understand three major theories of immigrant and ethnic group integration. I don t use slang very much in text messages or emails partly because I don t feel the need and I am normally emailing professors and staff members who expect me to respect them by writing with proper English. Most of the time my roommates and I use slang when we are just messing or playing around. Therefore, the use of slang in my classroom will be mainly for educational purposes and limited because of the focus on standard English and the negative view it may put upon the child. There is no doubt that people use slang almost every day. These people might be just using it for fun and mocking others, while some may use it to protest the use of standard English. The book, How English Works, by Curzan and Adams talks about how slang is used in everyday life and thrives in places that involve pop music, athletics, narcotics, and other various factors (Curzan and Adams, 2012). I feel that Curzan and Adams are right on point when they say slang thrives on these main ideas. For example, my roommates listen to music that has slang involved in it. My roommates and I normally sing to some of the songs while they are playing or even after they are done playing and use slang without consciously knowing because it is in a song. Normally these songs get stuck in our heads and we end up singing the lyrics out loud using slang almost every day. Most of the songs that we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Currently there is little research available that maps the types of bacteria commonly found on fruits and vegetables (Leff and Fierer 2013). Many different standards have been set forth to measure produce quality with some of these standards including a count of the coliforms, Escherichia coli, and the aerobic bacteria count (Wood et. al). One of the biggest areas of this demand is in the produce department (Mukherjee et.al 2006). Statically during this same time frame there has been an increase in foodborne illness stemming from fresh produce. From the 1970s to 2006 the percentage of foodborne illness caused by fresh fruits and vegetables went from 6% to 12% (Mukherjee et.al 2006). Due to these increased percentages of foodborne illness, and data supporting more coliform bacterial colonies present on organic produce than the conventional counter parts researchers are beginning to speculate that organic produce has a higher risk to people s health then the conventional counterparts (Mukherjee et.al 2006). There is still very little previous research comparing the microbial colonies found on organic vs conventional produce to fully assess the possible increased health risks of organic produce. Another area of lacking data that adds to the confusion is in the United States the number of foodborne illness outbreaks have not been documented based on organic vs conventional produce (Mukherjee et.al 2004). In order to help control foodborne illness outbreaks an in depth understanding of the bacteria commonly found on the produce needs to be known. According to Preja (2013) the term Communication can be traced back to the Latin word Communis which stands for to be connected to or to be in a relationship with . Communication can be classified to two types, verbal and non verbal. Verbal communication focuses mainly on vocals while non verbal communication is innate and takes into account the speechless signals people do, not say, when interacting with each other. Loss of Species Due to the Biodiversity Crisis The seriousness of the current biodiversity crisis and the increasingly loss of species diversity have aroused the boldness in conservationists to propose not so conservative solutions. Such as an attempt to restore in our present environment the wildlife diversity lost in the Pleistocene period. This proposal is incited by Donlan et al. (2006) that call for restoration of missing ecological functions and evolutionary potential of lost North American megafauna using extant conspecifics and related taxa . This essay will discuss the possible positive effects brought by the Pleistocene rewilding and its major impediments. And it is perceptible that the obstacles in translocating species similar to those that have been extinct for millennia in North America are so many, and its plausibility so controversial, that this adventurous proposal requires a lot of reflection and scientific labor before being considered a reasonable solution. In the Americas, many mammals and their commensals were lost in the end of the Pleistocene epoch, about 13,000 years ago (Martin 2005) and with them, many ecosystem processes and services were lost. The Pleistocene rewilding intends to bring back the biodiversity that vanished 13,000 years ago, reinstituting ecological and evolutionary processes that were transformed or eliminated by megafaunal extinctions (Donlan et al. 2006). • 20. The Use Of Symbolism In Dandelion Wine By Ray Bradbury I am Doug Spaulding. Ray Bradbury may have chosen Doug to be the twelve year old protagonist in Dandelion Wine, but I am convinced that Bradbury took a pencil and paper to my childhood. Part of the reason why Doug s character resonates with me so much stems from Bradbury s use of symbolic language. Because symbolism leaves the audience to interpret the text s meaning, every reader draws a different interpretation of the text based on his or her own personal experiences. By picturing the experience associated with Bradbury s imagery, the reader gains a deeper understanding of the story. Bradbury effectively utilizes symbolism in Dandelion Wine to aid the audience in perceiving the text s significance and to impart the messages that form the novel s overall theme. Bradbury reveals Doug s youthful nature in the form of animals, allowing the reader to visually imagine Doug s mental and physical characteristics. After Doug becomes aware of his existence, Bradbury writes, Douglas, eyes shut, saw spotted leopards pad in the dark (10). When Doug opens his eyes, Bradbury states, The leopards trotted soundlessly off through darker lands where eyeballs could not turn to follow (10). From a twelve year old s perspective, leopards seem like the fastest and scariest animals in the world. Personally, the most significant aspects of the photograph lie in its beginning when it all first started with the daguerreotypes and the calotype that opened the world of photography which have lead the world to be what it is now. The first widely usable photographic processes that was introduced to the public were the daguerreotype and the calotype. There were precedents before the daguerreotype and calotype but it wasn t commercially used and was more close to a research rather than an art form. Each method produced technically different outcomes by using different methods but they devoted to the same result: both processes would develop photography into what we recognize today as photography. The two methods would inspired wide use of the camera, which presented problems with the photographic technique. • 29. Flagstaff Arizona Mental Health Assignment Introduction I thought a lot about this assignment. It was important, to me, that I gathered information that would be applicable for the clients I will serve as a social worker. Here in Flagstaff Arizona, we are fortunate to live in a community which celebrates cultural diversity. Flagstaff is home to a large Latino, Diné and Hopi population. I wanted to critique a mental health assessment that I felt would be culturally sensitive, appropriate and address the needs of these populations. Having said that, I analyzed this intake form in terms of its usability for a variety of different cultures and populations. I also aimed to assess the intake form in relation to sexual orientation and issues around gender identity. The hope being that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do not think there is always sufficient space to answer questions completely. For example, within the Family Background and Childhood History section, there are questions asking the client to describe their relationship with both their father and mother. Only one and one half lines are provided for this response. A bit more space might encourage a better understanding of client concerns. I understand the intake is intended to be brief but additional client explanation would be helpful. Should the intake be re formatted so it is easier to read? Why? In general, the intake form is formatted thoughtfully. My suggestion would be to expand certain areas, include a few more questions and provide a bit more space between topic areas. One aspect I really appreciated was on the final page where space is provided for the client to add any additional areas of concern. I reviewed quite a few intake forms for this assignment and found very few that incorporated this aspect. What would you include? What would you remove? Why? I do not feel there is anything I would remove but there is content I would include. For example, in the beginning of the intake, a demographic section would be helpful. Addition of this section would give the clinician further insight into the clients cultural systems. Questions might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Symbolism In The Giver By Lois Lowry Have you ever wondered about the symbolism and central idea in The Giver? For years people have pondered about the true theme and concealed symbols in the end of this Newbery Medal science fiction book. In this novel, Lois Lowry uses several literary devices such as imagery to send the message that hope can pull a person through their gravest of times while using specific diction and anaphoras to show a more in depth meaning in chapter twenty three and to express the voice at the end of this literary work. To begin with, Jonas used all the mental and physical strength he had to ride on the sled to Elsewhere towards a brighter, better future to complete the mission the Giver created with him. His actions in the end of the book show that his hope was strong enough to get Gabe to Elsewhere, where the memories should have been released to all the citizens in the Community. Lowry uses imagery such as The wind was bitterly cold. The snow swirled, blurring his vision. But somewhere ahead, through the blinding storm, he knew there was warmth and light. and The hill was steep but the snow was powdery and soft, and he knew that this time there would be no ice, no fall, no pain. Inside his freezing body, his heart surged with hope. to elaborate on how Jonas feels the need to push on forward to get to Elsewhere with Gabriel despite the fact that he is close to dying from hypothermia. The root biomass of this plant is smaller in comparison with the biomass of the same plant s root in a region where there is no genetic relatedness. The hypothesis the presence of close relatives in the plant s environment does not change group or individual fitness was tested using another species, Lupinus angustifolius. This provides evidence not only for the ability of certain plants to identify their relatives but the mutual influence on their fitness. In this context, a recent paper reported that plants of the annual Cakile edentula are able to identify kin in competitive settings and, more importantly, react by competing less aggressively against a close relative (Dudley File 2007). When individuals were grown in pots with close relatives, root biomass, a surrogate of below ground competitive ability, was lower than in individuals grown in the vicinity of strangers (Dudley File 2007). This citation provides the basis for why the researchers might predict a variation in fitness due to relatedness. If the plants forego maximizing individual fitness in favour of reducing competition between relatives this would affect overall group fitness. Previous fieldwork with this species also suggests that kin selection may be a major selective force in the most genetically structured groups of C. edentula plants (Donohue 2003). This citation states the potential for kin selection to significantly influence both individual and group fitness. Therefore, relatedness could have major implications on group success. 4. Discuss the significance of the French Revolution and the ensuing Napoleonic State on the formation of nation states in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The French revolution was an event of epic proportions. At the outset, alike the English Civil Wars, an autocratic monarch (Louis XVI) summoned Parliament, in France Estates General, in order to demand funds and prerogatives. The outcome became very similar to the English Civil Wars; the Third Estate rebelled (in England it was Parliament though), overthrew the monarchy, the King was executed, a republic was founded and kingship outlawed in the process. The consequences would be devastating in the twentieth century. Also, the successes in the battlefield would be significant on the spreading of new ideas and forms of government; the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen, the metric system, the introduction of Civil marriage, and the Napoleonic Code. Many of these principles are still in use in our day. When Napoleon assumed total control of the French state, he sought to expand French influence. Indisputably, Napoleon was a gifted commander in chief; France s military was well organised, adequately equipped and capably led. Unsurprisingly, the French established their military hegemony in Europe. Napoleon played the role of kingmaker and amended the political landscape according to his views. He terminated the Holy Roman Empire, redistributed land (for instance Bavaria greatly benefited and Poland was given independence), Ironically, when Napoleon was defeated by monarchies fighting to reinstitute the ancien regime in France, the ancien regime was not fully reinstated. Many states preferred to keep the new administrative and legal frameworks; the French legacy was maintained as it was more efficient. (Emsley et al, p. 24 25, 2011). The French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire reintroduced the concept of elections in the form of plebiscites for nationwide political affairs; Napoleon himself cleverly used the media and military bulletins to augment his standing with the French nation. For example, the majority of teens aren t actually taught about what to do in case one s car starts hydroplaning, which is crucial for not only the driver but anyone around them on the road safety.
