Pros And Cons Of Overcoming Fear In Pirate Latitudes
In Pirate Latitudes a major theme is overcoming fear. There are many advantages that come with
overcoming fear in this story. For example, they got the galleon. Their mission was to get the
galleon, and thy succeeded by over coming fear. Also, they defeated the Kraken and Spanish
warships. They were the crew s enemies. They also gained trust in each other throughout the story
by over coming fear. They gained the trust from going through these obstacles together. The
author shows us the rewards that you get when you overcome your fear. But also there are some
disadvantages to overcoming your fear. For example, the lost crew members on their expedition.
The crew also lost a ship at sea. This is very sad to lose people that you are close with.

Jungle Essay
The Jungle by Upton Sinclare was the novel I chose to read for this final section.
This book was 359 pages long with 31 chapter inside. From beginning to end, this book had detail
unlike any I have ever read in the past this year. The way this novel was structured was a one sided
view of how the industrial age was horrible to live in. Sinclare hated this time and used this book to
show how bad it really was.
Two very major character in the book happen to be a couple. There names are
Jurgis Rudkus and Ona Lukoszaite. The couple meet in Lithuania, where the book begins, and later
move to Chicago in search of a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After her death many people grieve, one of them being Ona s stepmother.
Ona s stepmothers name is Elizbieta Lukoszaite. She is the link to the past. She is the one who
keeps the sense and morals to the whole family. Elizbieta is the one who insists on a tradition
wedding and a proper funeral. She is the one that keeps hope alive.
Another inspiration is Marija.
Marija Berczynskas is the one with the best bets of surviving in America. She has many great traits
that set her apart from the others. She is a leader and conqueror. But we come to find out that all
isn t what it seems to be.
The main setting in this book is in Chicago, Illinois between 1900 and 1904. Most of the book
takes place here. The setting of this city is a good one because Chicago is one of many place where
many immigrants went to when they came to this country. Another place where the book it told at
is Lithuania. Lithuania is where the families originate from.
There is where Jurgis falls in love with Ona and where Ona s father dies. In Lithuania is where the
decision was made to move to America in the first place.
The book starts off in Lithuania days before the fair. At the fair Jurgis is told by father that he must
sell two of his horses. At the fair is where Jurgis meets Ona. At the moment of site, Jurgis falls

Gene Flow In Full Genotypes
Gene flow is the process by which individuals (full genotype), and/or the genetic material they
carry (certain alleles of genes), move from one population to another and is an important source of
genetic variation, because it brings new alleles in the population. Gene flow can be subdivided in
three categories: (1) Migration: the movement of full genotypes (individuals) from one population
to another within the same species, which may be further integrated later by breeding, (2)
Introgression: the movement of genes from one species or strain to another through a process of
successful mating (hybridization) and backcrossing, (3) Horizontal (or lateral) genetransfer: the
movement of genes from one species or strain to another without successful

Reasons For The Cross Pollination
Justification
The term cross pollination may be used to best describe the sharing of theories, mathematical
computations, algorithms, languages, hardware architecture, system software, applications
software and tools between computer science and software engineering. Computer scientists
utilize mathematics and theory to analyze if something works. Software engineers apply known
rules in order to build and design things. Calude et al. (2008) quoted Vladimir Arnold in their
research regarding proofs, Proofs are to mathematics what spelling (or even calligraphy) is to
poetry. Mathematical works do consist of proofs, just as poems do consist of characters (p. 6).
Proofs are sets of facts that are crucial in explaining theories and concepts. The analogy previously
stated denotes the importance, fundamentalism, and structure of proofs in mathematics. Lehman et
al. (2012) provided several correlations on how proofs factored in various disciplines in their
research:
Computer Science: proofs are used to certify that software and hardware will always behave
correctly, something that no amount of testing can do.
Judicial System: legal truths are decided by a jury based on allowable evidence presented at trial.
Business World: authoritative truths are specified by a trusted person or organization, or maybe just
your boss.
Physics or Biology: scientific truths is confirmed by experiment
Statistics: probable truths are established by statistical analysis of sample data.
Philosophy:

The Impact Of Modern Technology Essay
Living within the 21st century, we are exposed to a lot more science and technology. Technology
has allowed us to accomplish things we could not have done in the past with a bit more ease. New
and useful products are constantly being invented and perfected for our use. I believe everyone has
experienced the use of technologywhether have they like it or not. I think modern technology has
made life more convenient. We pretty much eat, breathe, and sleep technology. We use it
constantly, technology increases our standard of living to make life simpler. Modern technology
has improved and made advances in the business sector, education, medical field, as well as our
personal lives. In my belief, the use of technology has totally changed our lives for the better.
Technology has provided a faster form of transportation on land, air, and sea. Solutions to health and
environmental issues, improved knowledge, and communication. The invention of the computer
and internet are two of the most significant features in technology and most widely used. What we
can do now with the click of a button we were not able to do that ten years ago. The accessibility
of on line shopping, on line banking and even on line classes, these advancements in technology
provides us with more freedom, and less consumption of our time and resources. The way we
communicate with each is much different than in the past. We now have easier access to
communicate with family and friends around the world, whether it

The Theories Of The Labeling Theory
Historical Theoretical Conceptualization The labeling theory is a theoretical development
within the field of criminology, it is a theory that is used to determine self identity and behavior
of individuals. The theory is also used to classify and or describe the identity and behavior of
individuals. It is connected to the concepts of self fulfilling prophecy and stereotyping
(Paternoster Bachman, 2013). The primary authors of labeling theory are Howard Becker and
Edwin Becker. The works of these authors were started in the 1950 s. Edwin Lemert made a
distinction between primary deviance and secondary deviance, while Howard Becker focused
on the conditions under which labeling takes place. Howard Becker coined the phrase moral
entrepreneurs (Becker, 1963, p. 179), as individuals who take the lead in getting a specific
behavior negatively labeled or getting the label removed. The labeling theory s conception is
considered by many scholars to be an innovative area of research and development in the field of
criminogenic. This theory s inception was in 1963 and in 1960 the United States found itself in the
midst of a great degree of political and cultural conflict magnified by the civil rights movement, the
Vietnam War, and the expressions of love, peace, and happiness. The role that governmental
entities, such as the courts and human services agencies played in the creation of delinquency and
crime was highlighted by Howard Becker. In many accounts, the labeling theory was

CAFO Environmental Effects
Some groceries stores have pictures of happy animals and beautiful farms adorning the walls of
their stores. There are commercials depicting the same things but what if the real picture was not as
serene as it seemed? Milk, eggs, butter, meat, yogurt, and many other products sold in grocery
stores come from industrialized farming operations. These operations are also called factory farms
or confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The need and the desire for something like these
CAFOs is understandable but the conditions are absolutely deplorable. Animals are treated poorly,
the environmental effects are unimaginable and the health of humans is also at risk. The Food and
Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture... Show more content on

Americans have gone from eating roughly 234lbs of meat per capita in 980 to 273lbs in 2007
(qtd. Pluhar 2). In the past meat was a side on a dinner plate but as years have gone on, meat has
become the main event. The increased demand for meat, as stated above, has caused issues with
both the environment and animal welfare. But the demand has also caused issues with the
welfare of humans. One of the issues humans face are the pathogens that are released from
stressed, immune compromised, containment filled food animals (qtd. Pluhar 2). Because of the
increased exposure, humans are more susceptible to diseases (qtd. Pluhar 2). Food borne
illnesses are a big issue and since the commercialization of farming, the number of cases of food
borne illnesses has grown. 76 million people are hit by fouled food annually in the United
States. 5,000 of those people die (qtd. Pluhar 2). This is due to the slack regulations in the
industry. Studies have been done in low CAFOs regions versus regions with a high concentration
of CAFOs. One study showed that people were more likely to develop eczema in the regions with
a high concentration of CAFOs. It could be argued that the increase in illnesses and the increase in
factory farms could be completely unrelated. But research should be done to provide conclusive
evidence showing the relationship between the two. People should be able to eat their food without
worrying about

Mood disorders can often be treated with success. Treatment may include three types of it: First the
Antidepressant, and mood stabilizing medications especially when combined with psychotherapy
have shown to work very well in the treatment of depression. Second the Psychotherapy, most often
cognitive behavioral and/or interpersonal therapy. This therapy is focused on changing the person s
distorted views of himself or herself and the environment around him or her. It also helps to
improve interpersonal relationship skills, and identifying stressors in the environment and how to
avoid them. Third the Family therapy, other therapies, such as electroconvulsive therapy and

will focus only on core issues faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia and thus analyse
how such practitioners can contribute to achieve high performance workplace culture. It is indeed
necessary to identify these challenges faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia in order
to implement and develop effective HR practices policies and thus enable the Human Resource
Practitioners to achieve a high performance workplace culture which would be beneficial to the

Professions such as nursing, teaching are facing a shortage of skilled labourers. (De Cieri and
Kramar, 2005) Most of the new jobs that would be created in future would require high levels of
reading and writing. HR Practitioners need to select people possessing the key skills required
specifically for the job which is a big challenge in itself. Skilled workforce is inter related with
efficiency. Efficient workforce is as necessary as skilled workforce. Skill and Efficiency are two
sides of the same coin. Efficiency mainly contributes towards productivity. Organization is not
made up of a single individual, it is made up of numerous people. Skill can be acquired after a
period of time but efficiency can t be acquired. The perfect example of skilled and efficient
workforce can be seen in organization like J. P. Morgan. HR practitioners need to ensure that
proper tools are provided to workers for increasing their skill efficiency as organizations can t
survive for a long period of time without knowledgeable, skilled and committed workforce. (Rooke
and Keely, 1994). The biggest and toughest challenge faced by Human resource Practitioners in
Australia is flexibility. Flexibility largely depends on the eternal environment and the workforce.

Kevin Rudd s Speech In The Stolen Generation
In February of 2008, on behalf of The Australian Parliament, Prime Minister of the time, Kevin
Rudd, presented a speech directed towards the Stolen Generation . This extract addresses the
horrific losses that the Indigenous community has endured in the recent past, acknowledging the
mistreatment and offering stories of the abuse.
In the context of an influential speech, the correct use of language is essential. When attempting to
persuade listeners to agree with them, speakers must use a particular type of vocabulary, known as
emotive language, to evoke certain emotions within the listeners. Emotive language often uses
words that would be categorized as biased, and in a way, manipulates onlookers to feel sympathetic
towards the speaker. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only does this technique reinforce clarity, but it also emphasizes the point that is being
discussed. Throughout the speech, Rudd continues to use words such as sorry and apologise , as a
way of expressing his resentment towards what had happened in the past. For example, the word
sorry is used at the start of many sentences, in which, these sentences are all of the same format.
Rudd begins each of these phrases with a single word, in this case, the word is sorry , then
continues to justify his argument, finishing each sentence off with a reason for his use of the
repeated word. He also structures his sentences in a way that is easier to be heard, keeping any
sentence that uses the repetition technique short. Sorry for the physical suffering... Sorry for the
tragedy, the absolute tragedy, of childhoods lost... Sorry for all these injustices to you... . By
repeating these keywords, the message Rudd is trying to deliver will stick in people s minds a lot
more than if he were only to say the phrase

Naval Battle Of Port Royal
The Naval Battle of Port Royal was fought on November 3rd 7th 1861. Port Royal was a
Confederate city on the South Carolina coast. It was defended by 2 forts at the entrance to its
harbor named Fort Walker and Fort Beauregard. On November 3rd the attack under Union naval
officer Du Pont led a navy attack of 14 warships, 26 supply ships, 25 transports for 12,000 troops,
and the flagship The Wabash. The Confederates also had some small ships to defend the harbor
including a converted tugboat which each had about 2 to 3 guns each. The Union engaged the
confederate ships and easily defeated them. The warships bombarded the two forts until Du Pont
received word that Fort Walker had been abandoned. Shortly after Fort Beauregard was abandoned

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Compulsory License
A compulsory license is an authorization given by a national authority granted without the
permission of the patent/IPR holder. Historically speaking, a compulsory license can be invoked on
one of the various grounds, and should be issued on a case by case basis. Using compulsory license
is one of the flexibilities retained under TRIPS, and hence permitting Member States to determine
the appropriate circumstances within certain limits. Particularly, compulsory licensing provisions in
India have been under criticism regarding compliance with international treaties. The Indian Patent
Act does not confine the grounds to public health needs only. The grounds and types of compulsory
license under the Indian Patent Act are listed in Table 3 succinctly. This part would discuss the
failure of working (non working), the especially contested grounds in the following passages. 1.The

In order to adjust high prices brought by granting exclusivity to IPR owners, some countries assert
that using local working requirements as a means to the end. Labeling this rationale as
protectionism, Cottier et al. argue that there are still other useful means to achieve the same end,
such as increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) or reverse engineering. The positive relationship
between FDI and IPR protection has long been argued, while the latitude for competitors to reverse
engineer is decreasing owing to the higher harmonization pressure from IPR maximalist countries.
Conversely, the quality of human resources and business environmental soundness maybe has more
influence on FDI. Professor Ragavan points out with discernment that countries having increasing
FDI are actually the countries recognized to have disreputable fame in IPR protection once before,
such as China and

Dante s Divine Comedy Summary
Dante s Divine Comedy
[1]
Dante s Divine Comedy is considered by many the supreme literary work not only of medieval
Christendom but of the Christian faith in general. Rivaled only by Milton s Paradise Lost. Never
has a poet given a more compelling vision of Christian love than Dante in his Commedia (the
Divina was added after Dante s death). This massive and intricate structure of almost fifteen
thousand lines, or one hundred cantos, is divided equally into three large sections Inferno,
Purgatorio, and Paradiso that correspond to Dante s conception of the states of souls not only after
death but in life as well. This forms what Dante himself called the sacred poem. A stirring drama of
the human soul discovering the life of faith in a faithless world.
Pilgrim and Poet
[2]
Using himself as a fictional character, Dante the poet relates what happens to Dante the pilgrim
in the Comedy when, midway in the journey of our life, he awakes to find himself lost in the
dark and savage wood, he has somehow left the straight way but is delivered from death when a
figure of great importance in his life appears from the dead to intervene. Sent by Beatrice, who has
descended from heaven into hell to call him to this task, the pagan poet Virgil comes to guide Dante
back to the true path. The lost pilgrim must travel through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, the three
realms of the afterlife that reveal God s justice and his love.

Is it possible for women to have it all ? As times are changing so are the views for women on
having it all . Why Women Still Can t Have It All by Anne Marie Slaughter is an article about
how Slaughter realized she was living every feminists life but gave it up to be with her family. To
Slaughter having it all meant what type of job she had, but according to her she soon realized that,
having it all was not possible in many types of jobs, including high government office at least not
for very long. Anne Slaughter always had feminist beliefs and thought that if she could get a
foreign policy job in the State Department or the White House, she would stay there as long as she

In her article, I see a lot of similarities as Slaughters. They both bring up the topic of a woman
having a good supportive spouse in order for her to expand in her career. In the article, there is a
quote from Laura Leigh Oyler, Having a supportive spouse has been essential for her career says
Oyler, the family s primary breadwinner. He was the first one to say you can do anything. I ve
got your back. Go for it, she says. (Johnson 1) Another similarity I found between Anne Slaughter
s article and Michelle Johnson s article is that they both share the same thoughts on the
workforce not being flexible for women. Nearly three quarters of Americans say having more
women in the workforce has been a change for the better in society and that marriages are more
satisfying when men and women share responsibilities of work and children. But workplaces and
laws have yet to catch up with the realities of family life, says Joan C. Williams,....The American
workplace is still perfectly designed for the workplace of the 1960s, Williams says. It assumes that
you have someone else taking care of all your other family obligations, and that just isn t true
anymore. (Johnson

Father Vs. Son Rivalry In Finding Nemo
One of the bigger conflicts in the play is the battle rivalry between the king and the prince. Which
is similar to struggle of Uranus vs. Saturn or Saturn vs. Jupiter in ancient mythology. This struggle
is a prime example of the rivalry of the values of a father figure and the values of a son. Father
versus sonconflict are evident in many different people s lives and many families in today s world.
Think about every teenage guy with their dad s, they constantly butt heads and have conflicting
ideas. The teenager in their own minds think they are always right, while the Father who has life
experience has his own ideas and is trying to develop their child into a successful adult and human
being. Father versus son conflict is possibly the most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their is the one of the older son where he does not want to move away from his childhood home
to a home in a suburb in closer to the city where his dad got a job at. His girlfriend breaks up with
him due to him moving away, so the oldest son blames his father for this and eventually runs
away to try to reconcile with his ex girlfriend. The father and son reconcile though, and never
argue again. Unlike in the play where the King and the Prince reconcile, then they eventually end
up in conflict and opposition again. Another example of father versus son conflict is one of the
other boys as he strives for his dad s attention, yet his dad constantly ignores him and he finally
thinks its enough and runs away from his family. This is alot different than the play because in the
play his the Prince s family does not try to save the Prince where as in the movie the whole
family searches for the younger brother of the family. These two forms of entertainments are very
different and yet have certain similarities for example the key father versus son conflict, while the
difference between the two is that one the conflict is resolved, while in the other the conflict is
resolved for a brief part of the plot, but is soon reignited by the Prince s fulfillment of the prophecy

ETA stands for Euskadi Ta Askatasuna in Euskara, or in English, Basque Fatherland and Freedom.
It grew out of the EKIN in Spain in 1959 and formed as a radical Basque separatist group.
Discontented with the moderate nationalism of the main Basque party, the ETA is dedicated to a
separate nation state for the Basque people, an ethnic group inhabiting areas of northern Spain and
southwestern France. Currently there are about 300 members . Current leaders include Juan Cruz
Maiztegui Bengoa and JosГ© Luis Eciolaza GalГЎn, however very little is known about the ETA

The group has attempted several cease fires, including a 14 month one that lasted until
December 1999. While there have been a number of ETA attacks since 2000, the group has
claimed fewer victims. The strings of bombings in September 2004, December 2005, and early
2006 were generally preceded by warnings and did not result in any deaths. Also the Spanish
government has been cracking down, and there are more than one hundred suspected ETA
members in Spanish prisons today . In March 2006, ETA declared a permanent cease fire, but
broke this deal in December with the placement of a car bomb. Since then they have appeared
relatively weak, especially with the arrest of Jurdan Martitegi, the fourth consecutive ETA military
chief to be arrested by the police . However, violence resurged in the summer of 2009, leading to
the death of three individuals and injuring dozens more. The ETA may simply be biding its time
before commencing another string of attacks. FARC FARC stands for Fuerzas Armadas

Bystander Effect Essay
Research Summary
My article was Darley s and Latane s, Bystander Intervention in Emergencies: Diffusion of
Responsibility. They conducted this study to figure out how would people react in various group
sizes in an emergency situation. As well as which one those individuals in different size groups
would go and call for help. The concept of this was taken from the famous case of Kitty Genovese,
who was stabbed to death multiple times and finally was killed in her own neighborhood and no
one intervened. This is known to be the bystander effect. However, in this research experiment,
people were either in groups of 2, 3, or 6 and then they would overhear the person having an

There were a few differences on this base research experiment. To begin with, there were various
group sizes in various instances. For instance, there were either groups of two, three, and six
people. There was only one actual participant per group, while the rest were part of the experiment.
This was the independent variable. It was intended to test if the number of individuals would
diffuse the duty given in a crisis circumstance. In addition to that, various types of individuals took
part in this study. Different genders and authority figure was presented. This person was a
premedical student working at the emergency ward at Bellevue Hospital. Initially, it was meant to
find any distinction in different genders responding. Also, it was intended to figure out if the
presence of an authority figure would affect the participant s response if they were to assume that
the medical student would take charge in a crisis situation.
Furthermore, the dependent variable was the speed of the individuals reporting the emergency of
someone having a seizure to the experimenter. The experiment was terminated if individuals did not
seek assistance for the seizure victim within six minutes. Thus, this research was conducted in a
correlational fashion. Then the true essence of the experiment was revealed. Then

Descriptive Essay On The Picasso

The Picasso
It was my first day in the United States of America, travelling all the way from Nepal to witness
this amazing city. I was mesmerized by the skyline and obviously the food. I was carving for my
native Nepali food and to my amazement, there are many restaurants of nearly all the cuisines.
Chicago is a city with over 2.7 million residents (Wikipedia, City of Chicago), living in the biting
cold weather still happy and trying to cope up with the hustle and bustle of the big city. It has nearly
all the ethnic cultures within the neighborhood, if one wants to experience any of these ethnic
cultures they simply need to pay a visit to these neighborhoods.
Now, talking about the skyline the architecture is amazing, done with perfection and will leave
you awe struck. It masters in all the international styles and the maintenance of these buildings are
the top priority for the Chicagoans. I didn t find a single building in a bad condition and not only
the buildings look good they are very safe too. All the buildings have well maintained facilities in
case of an emergency.
I took a short nap in the hotel and then left for a city tour, which was offered by the Chicago
trolley. There I saw a huge dark metal structure which was challenging you to interpret it. I got
down and started admiring the structure and was trying to understand the artist s purpose. I noticed

Entertainment During The Great Depression Essay
The average person working in the movie business in the 1930s made about $92,500 as someone
working a moderate job only made about $890 a year, equally (COH) about $12,500 today.
Throughout the Great Depression entertainment was an escape for people in America, which still
continues to be used today.
During the Great Depression entertainment such as movies, music/radio, and dancing provided
people with and escape from the harsh realities of what was going on around them. As for movies,
while (SUB) people in the 1930s were struggling because of their loss of jobs. Hollywood had

1950, and consisted of people and new movies flourishing due to people s lack of work and extra
free time, popular examples of movies include: Snow White and the Seven dwarfs, The Wizard

Temple ( The 1930s 1) played a key role by influencing the younger population. Even though
movies were popular, they had to appeal to a mass audience in order to stay running ( The 1930s

theaters also provided people with a luxury outside of their homes for a couple hours, after all

Stroop s 1935 study was the first experiment to test the Stroop effect as we know it now. The
Stroop task measures the participants ability to ignore some parts of the stimuli, either the color of
the word or what the word actually reads and pay attention to others. This is especially the case
when the stimuli is incongruent, or when color written does not match the color of the font it is
written in. The research question that this study seeks to answer is what effect if any does the
Stroop Effect have on accuracy, time and confidence levels of participants.
In their 2012 study, Khanna and Gupta asked how lunch and sociability affected Stroop test scores.

Sheehan, Donovan and MacLeod (1988) sought to find out if hypnosis affected Stroop test
performance. Participants were sorted into two groups, those highly susceptible to hypnosis, and
those not really susceptible to hypnosis. The subjects were tested three times, waking, under
hypnosis with no strategy manipulation and hypnosis with strategy manipulation. This study found
that reaction times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible
to hypnosis and those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly
slower reaction times when hypnotized. This study shows that hypnosis slows down reaction
time, and does not increase accuracy. The gap in research that this study is aiming to fill is the
relationship between the stroop effect and time, accuracy, and confidence self ratings. This study
will have participants read both a congruent and incongruent Stroop task for both time and
accuracy. After they are finished they will self rate their confidence levels. Based on previous
studies, I predict that there will be a main effect of list type, I think that the congruent list will be
read faster, with better accuracy and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be a
main effect of task type. I think that the word naming task will be read faster, with better accuracy,
and a higher confidence level. I also predict that there will be an interaction effect. The

The Importance Of Bt Resistance
Based on the results, there are fitness costs to Bt resistance which could answer why the
frequency of resistant to Bt is low. Moreover, the two indicators for reduces fitness of resistant T.
ni were slower larval growth and smaller pupal size. The average pupal weight of the resistant
strain was 20% lower when compared to the mean weight of the untreated populations. The mean
larval weight of the most resistant population was 3.45mg, while the moderately resistant larvae
had an average weight of 5.0 and the larval weight of non resistant colonies was 7.2. This supports
the hypothesis that Bt resistant has a negative effect on fitness. Furthermore, since the resistance
declined in all five colonies in the absence of Bt exposure, this could... Show more content on

Additionally, the fitness costs associated with resistance to Bt crops are still poorly understood
(Hackett, 2016). However, the study still suggests that Bt free recovery period are necessary in
maintaining the resistance allele frequency below a critical threshold (Hackett, 2016). Another
study done on pink bollworm larvae also suggested that fitness costs of resistance to Bt crops
occur in the absence of Bt toxins (Williams, 2011). Meaning that it is more beneficial for the
insects to have resistance to Bt regardless of its fitness costs when Bt toxins are present.
However, as costs of Bt resistance become common, refuges of non Bt host plants can delay
resistance by providing susceptible individuals to mate with resistance individuals as well as by
selecting against resistance much like the high dose/ refuge strategy mentioned earlier (Williams,
2011). The study on pink bollworm larvae also found that the fitness costs of resistance occur in
absence of Bt toxins though pleiotropic effects that reduce fitness of individuals carrying resistance
alleles relative to individuals that lack those alleles (Williams, 2011). Moreover, the study on pink
bollworm larvae did not find any cost affecting weight which does not support this study (Williams,
2011). Although, they did find that there were fitness costs affecting development in Plutella

A.) Recommendation on how to improve current workflow.
It is my recommendation that Shuzworld change their facilities layout to create a better workflow.
You can accomplish this by breaking the current structure and reorganizing the workstations to
accomplish tasks in a more time efficient manner and maximizing an employees time spent on the
product. Utilizing the Case Study we can surmise that each eight hour shift must produce forty
eight work boots. 8 hours times 60 minutes equals 480 minutes. 480 minutes (The Work Shift)

seemed to be the best option in this scenario. You can use a simple formula to calculate the hours

Free Will
The Concept of Free Will Free will is the ability to make your choices in life without having any
consequences. We may feel the existence of free will until we start thinking and then figure out
there really is not. Thus, free will is nothing other than just an illusion. The moment a person is
born, they are confined to a land of law, a set biological makeup, and environmental factors that
are beyond their control. Hence, human beings do not have free will and ultimate responsibilities
thus the punishment for their misdeeds are not justifiable. A human can very well do what he
wants, but cannot will what he wants. Einstein. We, people, consider ourselves as a free being as

Hence, we are not responsible for our misdeeds as we do not have free will. Let us take an
example of a computer system. Computers do not have its user makes free will and all its
choices. For instance, the computer you just bought spending lot of money is affected by a
virus that duplicates your file and makes it accessible to other users within the network. Would
you shut it down and put it in your basement for its misdeed holding it responsible or take it to
the technician and get it fixed? Another thing to question would be, if one should be punished for
misdeeds if they are mentally ill. People that are mentally ill do not have the capability of
functioning in the society like most other people do. This is due to impairments of the brain that
is way beyond anyone s control. In some court cases, this disability is highly considered. If the
criminal does not have the free will to perform these misdeeds, how can they be held accountable

Why Did The Soviet Union Collapse
The Soviet Union was one of the super powers, that is why, in my opinion, is highly useful try to
understand why it collapsed. The USSR was famous for the progressive scientific investigation that
it, unfortunately, approached on space and weaponry technology.
So, why did the USSR collapse? I witnessed this event, and I think there were two major
components, or reasons, that caused this colossal break down, changing all political structure and
leading to several economic issues. The USA convinced Saudi Arabia to lower oil prices, thous, the
Soviet Union cannot benefit from its very own oil. This move leaded to the deficiency of the hard
currency reserves of the USSR.
In 1985, Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev introduced the Glasnost and Perestroika. These economic
policies aimed for a much needed improvement. The Glasnost eventually led to greater freedom of
information. More importantly, it opened up the minds of the public about the mistakes and
limitations of the government. Aside from a bad economy, some of satellite states in the eastern
part of Europe started to abandon the ideals of communism. These factors pressured Gorbachev to

The Fight For Identity
Identity is something that everyone has and wants to be able to express. It shows your cultures,
your beliefs, your religion, and even your hobbies. In history, slaves have risked their lives
escaping from the people who shut down their self perception, just to get their identity back.
Currently, there are marches happening all over the world that are protesting for people to be able
to express who they are; like the LGBTQ Marches and the Women s Marches. Identity has been
riskily fought for in the past, and in the present. Therefore, it is incredibly important to fight for.
Historically, in the time before the Underground Railroad, African Americanslaves were devastated
in their living condition. They wanted to be able to express their identity and celebrate their
culture, but this was not allowed. They snuck out of their atrocious life and traveled a disastrous
distance just to get to a new, accepting home. The poor slaves were later welcomed into new
places where their distinctiveness could be expressed and cherished. Overall, the slaves gave up
everything, even risked their lives, just so they could regain their identity. This shows that identity
is worth fighting for because it represents who you are and people want to be able to express that. ...

Women s marches are made to protest against these thoughts and stereotypes, so women can feel
more confident about their dreams, future, and self perception. Thus, identity is worth fighting for

Analysis Of The Movie The Truman Show
The media has become so powerful in today s society that it has come to the point of controlling
our daily lives. We accept the reality of the world with which we re represented. It s as simple as
that . This was said by a character in the movie, The Truman Show that was released in 1998,
distributed by Paramount Pictures, directed by Peter Weir, and includes stars such as Jim Carrey,
Laura Linney, Natasha McElhone and many more. There is a crucial need to criticize the media
in order to explore the way something is presented and to be sure that we are thinking for ourselves
because the media is not always accurate in its portrayal of facts. The Truman Showis a non stop, 24
hour live broadcast of a man named Truman Burbank. Truman has no idea that his life is fake,
full of actors, and that there are over 5,000 hidden cameras that document his entire life,
although his life and emotions are still genuine. The show is watched by Truman fans all over
the world that are addicted and can t get enough of it. These fans want to know his every move.
The creator of the show was a man named Cristof who claims that he knows everything about
Truman because he has had him trapped in a fake city called Seahaven in a giant television studio

periodic mesoporous materials. The textural properties of SBA 15, NH2 SBA 15 and Fe3O4
SBA 15 Cya Cit Au NPs have been summarized in Table 1. It is noteworthy that the surface area,
pore volume, and pore size decreased following the modification, confirming that the surface
modification occurred on the inner surface of the silica wall [23]. A considerable decrease in the
BET surface area upon grafting of cyanuric citric acid and Au nanocrystallites at the surface of the

Bearing in mind the prevailing issue of creative accounting, one cannot help but to question the
accuracy of the data, be it to a small degree, presented in data sources such as prospectuses and
annual reports. It is fair to say that the evidences presented in for example table 4 and 5 give a
logical support to the assertions and observations made by the author.
Overall, I believe the author has been successful in terms of providing the reader an understanding
and depths as to what are the key drivers behind the use of this practice. The paper lightly attempts
to outline an important question why or for how long these motivators and constraints support
creative accounting schemes appear to go undetected. Shah (1998) concluded that despite Tesco

fewer repercussions on the firms. Consequently, it does not only identify and state factors and

Parliamentary sovereignty: the supremacy of Parliament in the legislative sphere is known as
the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. It means that Parliament can make any laws as it
pleases, no matter how perverse or unfair. Example: Factorname Ltd v. Secretary of State for
Transport (page 17) 3. The making of an Act of Parliament: the procedure by which a legislative
proposal is translated into an Act of Parliament is long and complicated. Before all the stages in
the process have been completed, the act is known as a bill. Kind of bills: * Public Bill change
general law or affect the whole of the country. * Private Bill do not alter the law for the whole
community but deal with matters of concern in a particular locality or to a private company or

Animals played a part in the gladiatorial shows also. In A.D. 108 9, Emperor Trajan gave games

animals were killed for entertainment. Gladiators were heroes to their culture. Even though most

Pearl Harbor Battle Analysis Paper
Pearl Harbor
The attack on Pearl Harbor was one of the most tragic events in the history of the United States.
The Japanese used the element of surprise to win a decisive victory in the battle. Using critical
reasoning and battle analysis, we can identify the shortcomings that led to this loss. One such
shortcoming was the misuse of the SCR 270 Radar. This paper will fashion an alternate future
through this system s proper employment accounting for its battlefield effect. This paper will also
analyze the second and third order effects this alternate future would have on history. By
conducting critical reasoning and battle analysis, we may be able to see future weaknesses and
better manage our intelligence processes.
December 7, 1941 was a tipping point in US history. On this day, the Japanese Navy attacked the

the topic of slavery. The end of the Mexican American War was the beginning of the Compromise
of 1850 many states wondered whether the new state territories would slave states or anti slave
states. The Compromise of 1850 was created by Henry Clay which was widely accepted by the
North and South. The Compromise of 1850resolved some issues involving slavery. The
Compromise of 1850 was a change in the North and South which caused sectional division
between states a set of laws that was passed to favor slavery and groups opposing it and
strengthened of the fugitive slave law. To begin, in the Compromise of 1850 many events led up to
it that started the Compromise. The Compromise started with the Mexican American War. The end
of the Mexican American War the United Statesof America gained a large piece of Western land.
In 1849, California requested to enter the Union as a free state doing this will lead to states being

Around 1854, the Missouri Compromise was started eleven states were slave states and eleven
states were non slave states. Missouri wanted to become a state but fearful of a sectional
balance and nationalism balance. Southerners desire slavery in Missouri and accuse Northerners
of trying to abolish slavery. The end result of the Missouri Compromise the solution was that
Maine became a free state and Missouri became a slave state and the rest of the Louisiana
Territory split up(Urwin, 589). Before that California request to be a free state and ended up

Human Manipulation Of Genetic Transfer And Its Biological...
AS91607 Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its
biological implications By Ryan Neill (3 credits) Case Study 1: Selective Breeding Organism:
Cattle (Bos Taurus) Over time, all organisms are subject to natural selection. Natural selection is
where Nature selects against traits that either disadvantage the organism or against traits that are
not of any use to the organism; these are known as adaptations. These adaptations can be seen in
many forms. They include: behaviours that allow better evasion of predators, an anatomical
feature that improves their chances of survival (this could include brighter colours to find a
breeding partner or larger horns to fight off predators), or a protein that functions better at body
temperature. These could all be adaptations. Natural selection is the result of variation and
heredity. It is not considered random as it is nature s way of selecting the superior organisms to
carry its species into the future with the best chance of survival. Humans have carried out selective
breeding for centuries. Selective breeding is the process by which humans select which animals or
plants reproduce to develop particular phenotypic traits that will benefit us. This will result in the
offspring to be superior to its parents. Selecting breeding can be both intentional and unintentional.
For example, unintentional selection may be caused during cultivation in some grains, an increase
in seed size may have resulted from

Hegemonic Masculinity
Hegemonic masculinity is a social construction which suggests to society that men must be stronger
than the feminine of the species in every way. By definition, hegemonic masculinity is the
dominance of men over women, where men must sustain this dominance in any way. Defining what
the hegemonic masculine ideal is in Canada is difficult as we are a very young, multicultural
country, so the notion of the ideal manis a warped characterization of the ideal American male. This
paper seeks to prove that hegemonic masculinityis a social construction which is detrimental to
society. The negative effects of hegemonic masculinity on men include; male violence, misogyny,
and homophobia which are inextricably linked to how we define manhood as a culture.... Show

Giving up the idea of boy will be boys, especially in the case of violence is key to resolving some
of the issues. That is, when two boys are hitting each other this is a violent act, and they should
be taught that it is not the answer. As well, associating boys with words such as power,
dominance, aggression and guns, should be changed because it will have boys feel as though
they have to be a certain way to be a real man and that includes aggressive behaviours. Another
solution to ending violence in masculinity would be to stop comparing it to femininity. As the
narrator in Tough Guise 2 reiterated, if a man gives the appearance of being kind and gentle he
should not be referred to as a pussy or a fag ; this type of behaviour not only instills homophobia
but also proves more than anything that kindness is should be seen as a womanly

Kurnell Investigation
The Aim of this investigation is to identify the causes of pollution at Kurnell. Pollution has affected
living conditions on which Kurnell now confronts due to the development of new industry and
residential processes. The suburb is undergoing development of urban renewal from the rapid
growth of residential construction and property movement. This report will outline the impacts of
pollution on Kurnell and its level of management to sustain a beneficial community. The small
Peninsular of Kurnell located southeast from Botany Bay adjacent suburbs to Cronulla and
Woolooware consists a population of 2,213 based on the census of 2011. Kurnell is apart of the

At the duration being we were able to spot houses that were torn apart due to the storm that had hit
Kurnell not to long ago. Viewing at various other houses there seemed to be construction
undergoing renovating the house displaying that Kurnell was encountering urban renewal. There
were small stores and cafes that were located opposite the beach, consisting of small litter evidently
shown on the paths from the stores. Furthermore through the analysis the long strip of jetty that
stretched out from the shore was soon found out to transport oil from the refinery plant via
pipelines. The jetty was said to stretch for 1km out to sea emerging as submarine fuel pipelines,
along with other storage facilities around Kurnell. When conducting through the primary research
we were able to identify multiple aeroplanes that flew past the location. Due to its close proximity
with the Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport, Kurnell encounters multiple planes flying overhead
either to land or take off, having close contact with the ground. Throughout the examination little
information was discovered regards the statistics of pollution around the beach apart from minor
rubbish pieces left by the side of the road. However from looking into secondary research the
information given was distributed into three main aspects air pollution, noise pollution and sea
pollution.

Sexual Transmitted Infection Summary
STI or Sexual Transmitted Infection is one of the most common issues that sexually active people
obtain from unprotected sex. This can lead to a serious problem when left untreated. In Tad and
Kara s case, I would think that Tad is not telling the truth and he is hiding something from Kara. If
Tad is not hiding something even though he claimed that he has never taken sexual risks, he
should not be upset. Kara is just protecting herself from possible sexual related illness. If he does
not want to be tested then Kara has the right to refuse to his request or desire. On the other hand,
Kara should understand that if Tad loves him and value their relationship, he would consider her
health. It is not worth it to stay in a relationship that one cannot

What Impact Does A Difficult Temperament Have On Social...
What impact does a difficult temperament have on social competence in preschool children?
The ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors while controlling impulses all have to do
with self management and regulation. These social related skills are impacted by one s own
temperament. Though temperament is believed to be present at birth, research indicates that there are
many environmental factors that can influence temperament. Originally, research on temperament
traits in young children were focused on a child s genetic disposition at birth. However; today,
environmental influences are considered to be equally important to the influence of a child s
temperament development as inborn predispositions. Temperament impacts the young child in
many ways, especially in the development of social competence as it relates to the ability to
empathize with others and in the development of relationship skills including ability to effectively
communicate. Rudasill, Reio, and Stipanovic (2010) research also reiterated that teachers who
create positive, nurturing, and affectionate classroom environments are more likely to have
students who flourish and assert positive social skills when managing social and behavioral
challenges.
Definition of Difficult Temperament
Michael P. McCreery in his article Temperament as a Behavioral Construct, defined temperament as
the biological makeup of an individual shaped over time by heredity, maturity, and experiences.

God s Servant St Francesco Essay
St. Francesco of Assisi was an ordinary man who did incredible things. Francesco gave up his
wealth and comfort along with everything he owned to live in poverty. He worked through
adversity to do great things including founding a religious order, the Franciscans. He traveled
many places, including Rome and Syria, touching many people s lives as he went about.
Overall, St. Francesco is a great example to anyone who wants to be more like Christ and spread
the faith. Francesco embodies the life of a pure follower of Christ. From his birth God seemed to
keep an eye on him and though Francesco. How did Francesco former sinful life prepare him for

Analysis Of Etgar Keret sWhat Of This Goldfish Would You...
It is usually a challenge to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Ordinarily, one has to
consider one s values as well as preferred consequences in order to make the better or best choice.
In the short story, What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish? by Etgar Keret, Sergei Goralick faced
a similar conundrum. As an aloof Russian expatriate fisherman in Jaffa, Israel, his only company is
a magic three wishgranting fish. But having impulsively murdered Yonatan, Goralick had to
decide whether to use his last wish to save the boy or keep his magic goldfish companion.
Though he would have preferred the latter, Goralick made the better choice saving Yonatan as it
matches his established humaneness and the consequences attached were more reasonable.
Before he arrived at this decision, Gorelick considered covering up the murder to keep the fish.
He said, Fixable... I ll just mop up the blood... When I m fishing,...I ll tie the kid to a rock and
dump him in the sea. Not a chance, not in a million years, will anyone ever find him. ( lines 164
171) His stubbornness started surfacing, obstructing his sound reasoning. Goralick tried to find
excuses in order not to use his last wish. For example, he said that he was saving it for something
important.Goralick was ambivalent.Whilst suggesting this, he forgot how scared he was to even
touch Yonatan s blood(lines 124 127). That along with his statement, He can t be dead (110 113)
proves that had he chosen otherwise, Goralick would have suffered from guilt. In fact, even the
goldfish asserted, You killed him, Sergei, ... but you re not a murderer. ... If, on this, you won t
waste a wish, then tell me, Sergei, what is it good for? Though what immediately happened after
this question was skipped, one can infer that Sergei thought thoroughly during that time. He
rightfully chose to save Yonatan. His actions such the uses of his first two wishes reveal his
character traits.
When he heard of the critical conditions of his sister and Sveta s boy respectively, he did not
hesitate to use his first two wishes to save them respectively. His sister had a fatal lung cancer; The
fish undid it in an instant the words barely out of Sergei s mouth. .(lines 135 137) And

Soon after, she started to work around and with children. For a short time, she had a job babysitting
an American child (The British Monarchy). Not long after that, Lady Diana became a kindergarten
teacher at Young England School (Bio).
Throughout her life, Diana was surrounded by royalty. She was reported to have played with
Prince Andrew and Prince Edward when her family was renting Queen Elizabeth II s estate, Park
House. Diana was reacquainted in 1977 with Prince Charles, older brother of Prince Andrew and
Prince Edward. Prince Charles was thirteen years older than Lady Diana. At the time, Prince
Charles was dating Diana s older sister, Lady Sarah. During this time, it was said that the woman

Controlled Flight Into Terrain Essay
Introduction
The aviation community generally defines CFIT as В…any collision with land or water in which
there was no detectable mechanical or equipment failure, where the pilot was in control of the
aircraft but lost situational awareness and flew into terrain. (Bensyl, Moran, Conway, 2001, pg
1037) According to the National Transportation Safety Board(NTSB), the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) and the Flight Safety Foundation (FSF), CFIT can be caused by many
factors. Nevertheless, it is primarily caused when a pilot or flight crew is unaware that a dangerous
situation exists. Problems such as bad weather, information overload, instrument confusion, night
flight, poor air traffic control communications, or malfunctioning ground ... Show more content on

These procedures or checklists are designed to ensure that all possible dangers are addressed by
the flight crew in a given situation making them aware of those dangers so they may avoid them.
Shortcuts or omissions of these procedures may allow for a potential problem to go unnoticed
resulting in the development of a dangerous situation that may jeopardize flight safety.
В•Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a
pilot controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. Doane states that SA has been highlighted in
the aviation domain as an important precursor to performance failure. (Doane, Woo Sohn,
Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below
3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway
centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These types of errors are
extremely dangerous since aircraft may be close to terrain or obstacles and the flight crew is
generally unaware that a problem exists until it is too late.
В•System Operation: Improper operation of engines, hydraulics, brakes and/or fuel systems;
misread and improperly set instruments or disabled warning systems are all examples of improper
system operation. Aircraft systems and instrumentation are vital to a pilot s ability to accurately fly
the aircraft. The failure of a

Define the Economic Partnership Agreement and Discuss the...
It is important that we examine precisely the provisions that will be available to the Caribbean
Countries, as this will strengthen our discussions on ways in which businesses in the Caribbean
should organize themselves to take advantage of the Economic Partnership Agreement.
Norman Girvan s article Implications of the CARIFORUM EC EPA, examined the provisions,
state that the EPA was a trade agreement with development components designed to open up and
develop trade between Europe and CARIFORUM, removing the barriers to trade between them
and by means of improving CARIFORUM s capacity to tradeпЂ competitively.

In order to be able to achieve a competitive and comparative advantage with the European
countries, Caribbean businesses have to change their mindsets, and be willing to collaborate and or
merge with entities across the region that are producing similar products. This would enable them
to increase efficiency and their ability to be competitive in the global market place in which we are
operating today.
There exist different opinions concerning the benefits of the EPA as seen in Balford Henry
Article in the August 27, 2008 Jamaica Observer. His perspective looked at the view of the Trade
Unions that the EPA signing should be delayed . The Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions
(JCTU) is seeking a delay in the signing of the proposed Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA)
between Cariforum and European Union, for the review and possible renegotiation of the
agreement. Some of their concerns presented were:
The lack of review provision in the agreement as there are no provision in the agreement for us to
get back to the bargaining table in 6, 12 or 18 months to review the performance.
As it now stands with the EPA, if signed, and does not perform in the best interest of the
Caribbean, we have no recourse.
Girvan s articles spoke to the principles of transparency and democratic governance to which both
CARICOM and European Government are committed. He argues that the final stages of the EPA
were rushed to conclusion, with little opportunity for

Inequality in British Schools
Is there a problem of Inequality in British schools?
The educational system is one of the most influential institutions in society as it provides young
people with a vast amount of knowledge, attitudes and skills. These are acquired formally through
set lessons or informally through the hidden curriculum which provides the unofficial and
unplanned consequences of school experience. Social Inequality is one of the major preoccupations
of sociology. The relationship between inequality and education has been studied for many years.
Although it seems obvious that educational success is simply down to an individual s capabilities
and motivation, sociological research shows that the inequalities in social class, gender and race and
ethnicity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand if the teacher labels a pupil as un co operative or from a poor background, this
can cause low self esteem and the pupil will be likely to fail to achieve much success.
The Neo Marxist s perspective on class stratification in Britain claims that schools create a false
class consciousness so it seems that they promote equal opportunities for all, but they really
reproduce a capitalist division of labour, preparing young people for class determined careers in the
labour market.
Willis (1977) accepts the Marxist s view on education being closely linked to the needs of the
capitalist s system; however he does not agree with the idea of there being a direct link between
education and the economy. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008)
His study found that poorer children often grow up in environments where people see little hope of
upward social mobility and rebel against the system rather than trying to conform with in. In such
an environment adults often discourage rather than encourage success at school. (Macionis. J,
Plummer.K, 2008)
Social class is not the only inequality in Britain s schooling. Sociologists have also found a link
between gender and academic success. Until the late 1980 s there was high concern about the
underachievement of girls. Societies had been structured to consider schooling more important for
males than for females. Although the gap in gender

Advantages And Disadvantages Of PDMS Based Microfluidic...
The earliest microfluidic devices were made mostly made from silicon since the technology for
patterning silicon wafers had already been developed by the electronics industry for its usage in
microelectronics and micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS). Silicon however has the
following disadvantages: (1) It is not optically transparent in the wavelength range used for
optical detection; (2) Its conductive properties make it unsuitable for applications that involve
electro kinetic flow to transport fluids; (3) Proteins tend to bind to silicon non selectively which
rules out its application in immunoassays [Bange et al, 2005] There has recently been a lot of
interest in PDMS based microfluidic systems due the numerous advantages it offers compared
to glass and silicon [Kong J et al, 2009; Tanyu Wang et al, 2013 and Alphonsus et al, 2010].
PDMS is easy to fabricate, flexible, optically transparent and can irreversibly bind to itself
through the application of oxygen plasma. Another major advantage is that PDMS based devices
can be fabricated in normal laboratory conditions as opposed to clean room conditions that are
expensive to maintain and access. PDMS is also hydrophobic that is desirable for... Show more

  • 3. Jungle Essay The Jungle by Upton Sinclare was the novel I chose to read for this final section. This book was 359 pages long with 31 chapter inside. From beginning to end, this book had detail unlike any I have ever read in the past this year. The way this novel was structured was a one sided view of how the industrial age was horrible to live in. Sinclare hated this time and used this book to show how bad it really was. Two very major character in the book happen to be a couple. There names are Jurgis Rudkus and Ona Lukoszaite. The couple meet in Lithuania, where the book begins, and later move to Chicago in search of a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After her death many people grieve, one of them being Ona s stepmother. Ona s stepmothers name is Elizbieta Lukoszaite. She is the link to the past. She is the one who keeps the sense and morals to the whole family. Elizbieta is the one who insists on a tradition wedding and a proper funeral. She is the one that keeps hope alive. Another inspiration is Marija. Marija Berczynskas is the one with the best bets of surviving in America. She has many great traits that set her apart from the others. She is a leader and conqueror. But we come to find out that all isn t what it seems to be. The main setting in this book is in Chicago, Illinois between 1900 and 1904. Most of the book takes place here. The setting of this city is a good one because Chicago is one of many place where many immigrants went to when they came to this country. Another place where the book it told at is Lithuania. Lithuania is where the families originate from. There is where Jurgis falls in love with Ona and where Ona s father dies. In Lithuania is where the decision was made to move to America in the first place. The book starts off in Lithuania days before the fair. At the fair Jurgis is told by father that he must sell two of his horses. At the fair is where Jurgis meets Ona. At the moment of site, Jurgis falls ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gene Flow In Full Genotypes Gene flow is the process by which individuals (full genotype), and/or the genetic material they carry (certain alleles of genes), move from one population to another and is an important source of genetic variation, because it brings new alleles in the population. Gene flow can be subdivided in three categories: (1) Migration: the movement of full genotypes (individuals) from one population to another within the same species, which may be further integrated later by breeding, (2) Introgression: the movement of genes from one species or strain to another through a process of successful mating (hybridization) and backcrossing, (3) Horizontal (or lateral) genetransfer: the movement of genes from one species or strain to another without successful ... • 5. Reasons For The Cross Pollination Justification The term cross pollination may be used to best describe the sharing of theories, mathematical computations, algorithms, languages, hardware architecture, system software, applications software and tools between computer science and software engineering. Computer scientists utilize mathematics and theory to analyze if something works. Software engineers apply known rules in order to build and design things. Calude et al. (2008) quoted Vladimir Arnold in their research regarding proofs, Proofs are to mathematics what spelling (or even calligraphy) is to poetry. Mathematical works do consist of proofs, just as poems do consist of characters (p. 6). Proofs are sets of facts that are crucial in explaining theories and concepts. The analogy previously stated denotes the importance, fundamentalism, and structure of proofs in mathematics. Lehman et al. (2012) provided several correlations on how proofs factored in various disciplines in their research: Computer Science: proofs are used to certify that software and hardware will always behave correctly, something that no amount of testing can do. Judicial System: legal truths are decided by a jury based on allowable evidence presented at trial. Business World: authoritative truths are specified by a trusted person or organization, or maybe just your boss. Physics or Biology: scientific truths is confirmed by experiment Statistics: probable truths are established by statistical analysis of sample data. Philosophy: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Impact Of Modern Technology Essay Living within the 21st century, we are exposed to a lot more science and technology. Technology has allowed us to accomplish things we could not have done in the past with a bit more ease. New and useful products are constantly being invented and perfected for our use. I believe everyone has experienced the use of technologywhether have they like it or not. I think modern technology has made life more convenient. We pretty much eat, breathe, and sleep technology. We use it constantly, technology increases our standard of living to make life simpler. Modern technology has improved and made advances in the business sector, education, medical field, as well as our personal lives. In my belief, the use of technology has totally changed our lives for the better. Technology has provided a faster form of transportation on land, air, and sea. Solutions to health and environmental issues, improved knowledge, and communication. The invention of the computer and internet are two of the most significant features in technology and most widely used. What we can do now with the click of a button we were not able to do that ten years ago. The accessibility of on line shopping, on line banking and even on line classes, these advancements in technology provides us with more freedom, and less consumption of our time and resources. The way we communicate with each is much different than in the past. We now have easier access to communicate with family and friends around the world, whether it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Theories Of The Labeling Theory Historical Theoretical Conceptualization The labeling theory is a theoretical development within the field of criminology, it is a theory that is used to determine self identity and behavior of individuals. The theory is also used to classify and or describe the identity and behavior of individuals. It is connected to the concepts of self fulfilling prophecy and stereotyping (Paternoster Bachman, 2013). The primary authors of labeling theory are Howard Becker and Edwin Becker. The works of these authors were started in the 1950 s. Edwin Lemert made a distinction between primary deviance and secondary deviance, while Howard Becker focused on the conditions under which labeling takes place. Howard Becker coined the phrase moral entrepreneurs (Becker, 1963, p. 179), as individuals who take the lead in getting a specific behavior negatively labeled or getting the label removed. The labeling theory s conception is considered by many scholars to be an innovative area of research and development in the field of criminogenic. This theory s inception was in 1963 and in 1960 the United States found itself in the midst of a great degree of political and cultural conflict magnified by the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, and the expressions of love, peace, and happiness. The role that governmental entities, such as the courts and human services agencies played in the creation of delinquency and crime was highlighted by Howard Becker. In many accounts, the labeling theory was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. CAFO Environmental Effects Some groceries stores have pictures of happy animals and beautiful farms adorning the walls of their stores. There are commercials depicting the same things but what if the real picture was not as serene as it seemed? Milk, eggs, butter, meat, yogurt, and many other products sold in grocery stores come from industrialized farming operations. These operations are also called factory farms or confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The need and the desire for something like these CAFOs is understandable but the conditions are absolutely deplorable. Animals are treated poorly, the environmental effects are unimaginable and the health of humans is also at risk. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americans have gone from eating roughly 234lbs of meat per capita in 980 to 273lbs in 2007 (qtd. Pluhar 2). In the past meat was a side on a dinner plate but as years have gone on, meat has become the main event. The increased demand for meat, as stated above, has caused issues with both the environment and animal welfare. But the demand has also caused issues with the welfare of humans. One of the issues humans face are the pathogens that are released from stressed, immune compromised, containment filled food animals (qtd. Pluhar 2). Because of the increased exposure, humans are more susceptible to diseases (qtd. Pluhar 2). Food borne illnesses are a big issue and since the commercialization of farming, the number of cases of food borne illnesses has grown. 76 million people are hit by fouled food annually in the United States. 5,000 of those people die (qtd. Pluhar 2). This is due to the slack regulations in the industry. Studies have been done in low CAFOs regions versus regions with a high concentration of CAFOs. One study showed that people were more likely to develop eczema in the regions with a high concentration of CAFOs. It could be argued that the increase in illnesses and the increase in factory farms could be completely unrelated. But research should be done to provide conclusive evidence showing the relationship between the two. People should be able to eat their food without worrying about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Treatment may include three types of it: First the Antidepressant, and mood stabilizing medications especially when combined with psychotherapy have shown to work very well in the treatment of depression. Human Resource Management is a vast field and there are infinite issues related to it, this paper will focus only on core issues faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia and thus analyse how such practitioners can contribute to achieve high performance workplace culture. It is indeed necessary to identify these challenges faced by Human Resource Practitioners in Australia in order to implement and develop effective HR practices policies and thus enable the Human Resource Practitioners to achieve a high performance workplace culture which would be beneficial to the organization. Professions such as nursing, teaching are facing a shortage of skilled labourers. (De Cieri and Kramar, 2005) Most of the new jobs that would be created in future would require high levels of reading and writing. HR Practitioners need to select people possessing the key skills required specifically for the job which is a big challenge in itself. Skilled workforce is inter related with efficiency. Efficient workforce is as necessary as skilled workforce. Skill and Efficiency are two sides of the same coin. Efficiency mainly contributes towards productivity. Organization is not made up of a single individual, it is made up of numerous people. Skill can be acquired after a period of time but efficiency can t be acquired. The perfect example of skilled and efficient workforce can be seen in organization like J. P. Morgan. HR practitioners need to ensure that proper tools are provided to workers for increasing their skill efficiency as organizations can t survive for a long period of time without knowledgeable, skilled and committed workforce. (Rooke and Keely, 1994). The biggest and toughest challenge faced by Human resource Practitioners in Australia is flexibility. Flexibility largely depends on the eternal environment and the workforce. Human Resource ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Kevin Rudd s Speech In The Stolen Generation In February of 2008, on behalf of The Australian Parliament, Prime Minister of the time, Kevin Rudd, presented a speech directed towards the Stolen Generation . This extract addresses the horrific losses that the Indigenous community has endured in the recent past, acknowledging the mistreatment and offering stories of the abuse. In the context of an influential speech, the correct use of language is essential. When attempting to persuade listeners to agree with them, speakers must use a particular type of vocabulary, known as emotive language, to evoke certain emotions within the listeners. Emotive language often uses words that would be categorized as biased, and in a way, manipulates onlookers to feel sympathetic towards the speaker. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only does this technique reinforce clarity, but it also emphasizes the point that is being discussed. Throughout the speech, Rudd continues to use words such as sorry and apologise , as a way of expressing his resentment towards what had happened in the past. For example, the word sorry is used at the start of many sentences, in which, these sentences are all of the same format. Rudd begins each of these phrases with a single word, in this case, the word is sorry , then continues to justify his argument, finishing each sentence off with a reason for his use of the repeated word. He also structures his sentences in a way that is easier to be heard, keeping any sentence that uses the repetition technique short. Sorry for the physical suffering... Sorry for the tragedy, the absolute tragedy, of childhoods lost... Sorry for all these injustices to you... . On November 3rd the attack under Union naval officer Du Pont led a navy attack of 14 warships, 26 supply ships, 25 transports for 12,000 troops, and the flagship The Wabash. The Confederates also had some small ships to defend the harbor including a converted tugboat which each had about 2 to 3 guns each. The Union engaged the confederate ships and easily defeated them. • 13. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Compulsory License A compulsory license is an authorization given by a national authority granted without the permission of the patent/IPR holder. Historically speaking, a compulsory license can be invoked on one of the various grounds, and should be issued on a case by case basis. Using compulsory license is one of the flexibilities retained under TRIPS, and hence permitting Member States to determine the appropriate circumstances within certain limits. Particularly, compulsory licensing provisions in India have been under criticism regarding compliance with international treaties. The Indian Patent Act does not confine the grounds to public health needs only. The grounds and types of compulsory license under the Indian Patent Act are listed in Table 3 succinctly. This part would discuss the failure of working (non working), the especially contested grounds in the following passages. 1.The Rationale behind the Local... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to adjust high prices brought by granting exclusivity to IPR owners, some countries assert that using local working requirements as a means to the end. Labeling this rationale as protectionism, Cottier et al. argue that there are still other useful means to achieve the same end, such as increasing foreign direct investment (FDI) or reverse engineering. The positive relationship between FDI and IPR protection has long been argued, while the latitude for competitors to reverse engineer is decreasing owing to the higher harmonization pressure from IPR maximalist countries. Conversely, the quality of human resources and business environmental soundness maybe has more influence on FDI. Professor Ragavan points out with discernment that countries having increasing FDI are actually the countries recognized to have disreputable fame in IPR protection once before, such as China and ... • 14. Dante s Divine Comedy Summary Dante s Divine Comedy [1] Dante s Divine Comedy is considered by many the supreme literary work not only of medieval Christendom but of the Christian faith in general. Rivaled only by Milton s Paradise Lost. Never has a poet given a more compelling vision of Christian love than Dante in his Commedia (the Divina was added after Dante s death). This massive and intricate structure of almost fifteen thousand lines, or one hundred cantos, is divided equally into three large sections Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso that correspond to Dante s conception of the states of souls not only after death but in life as well. This forms what Dante himself called the sacred poem. A stirring drama of the human soul discovering the life of faith in a faithless world. Pilgrim and Poet [2] Using himself as a fictional character, Dante the poet relates what happens to Dante the pilgrim in the Comedy when, midway in the journey of our life, he awakes to find himself lost in the dark and savage wood, he has somehow left the straight way but is delivered from death when a figure of great importance in his life appears from the dead to intervene. Sent by Beatrice, who has descended from heaven into hell to call him to this task, the pagan poet Virgil comes to guide Dante back to the true path. The lost pilgrim must travel through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven, the three realms of the afterlife that reveal God s justice and his love. [3]As Dante travels he glimpses things ... Why Women Still Can t Have It All by Anne Marie Slaughter is an article about how Slaughter realized she was living every feminists life but gave it up to be with her family. To Slaughter having it all meant what type of job she had, but according to her she soon realized that, having it all was not possible in many types of jobs, including high government office at least not for very long. Nearly three quarters of Americans say having more women in the workforce has been a change for the better in society and that marriages are more satisfying when men and women share responsibilities of work and children. But workplaces and laws have yet to catch up with the realities of family life, says Joan C. Which is similar to struggle of Uranus vs. Saturn or Saturn vs. Jupiter in ancient mythology. This struggle is a prime example of the rivalry of the values of a father figure and the values of a son. Father versus sonconflict are evident in many different people s lives and many families in today s world. Think about every teenage guy with their dad s, they constantly butt heads and have conflicting ideas. The father and son reconcile though, and never argue again. Unlike in the play where the King and the Prince reconcile, then they eventually end up in conflict and opposition again. Another example of father versus son conflict is one of the other boys as he strives for his dad s attention, yet his dad constantly ignores him and he finally thinks its enough and runs away from his family. This is alot different than the play because in the play his the Prince s family does not try to save the Prince where as in the movie the whole family searches for the younger brother of the family. These two forms of entertainments are very different and yet have certain similarities for example the key father versus son conflict, while the difference between the two is that one the conflict is resolved, while in the other the conflict is resolved for a brief part of the plot, but is soon reignited by the Prince s fulfillment of the prophecy which ... This study found that reaction times and accuracy were not significantly different between those highly susceptible to hypnosis and those not susceptible, however, both groups of participants had significantly slower reaction times when hypnotized. This study shows that hypnosis slows down reaction time, and does not increase accuracy. The gap in research that this study is aiming to fill is the relationship between the stroop effect and time, accuracy, and confidence self ratings. However, the study still suggests that Bt free recovery period are necessary in maintaining the resistance allele frequency below a critical threshold (Hackett, 2016). Another study done on pink bollworm larvae also suggested that fitness costs of resistance to Bt crops occur in the absence of Bt toxins (Williams, 2011). Meaning that it is more beneficial for the insects to have resistance to Bt regardless of its fitness costs when Bt toxins are present. However, as costs of Bt resistance become common, refuges of non Bt host plants can delay resistance by providing susceptible individuals to mate with resistance individuals as well as by selecting against resistance much like the high dose/ refuge strategy mentioned earlier (Williams, 2011). The study on pink bollworm larvae also found that the fitness costs of resistance occur in absence of Bt toxins though pleiotropic effects that reduce fitness of individuals carrying resistance alleles relative to individuals that lack those alleles (Williams, 2011). The addition of the Safflower extract to the HAuCl4 solution was resulted in the Au3+ reduction and visual color change from light yellow to reddish brown is meaning the formation of Au NPs. Therefore, this color change is due to Surface Plasmon Resonance(SPR) excitation the collective oscillation of free conduction electrons induced by an interacting electromagnetic field. The strong SPR band was observed near 520 nm. These bands are centered in the ideal wavelength range reported for Au NP colloidal solutions [41]. 3.2. XRD The wide ... In both materials (Fig. 4), the Type IV N2 adsorption desorption isotherms with H1 type hysteresis corresponded to condensation and evaporation steps, and were characteristic of periodic mesoporous materials. The textural properties of SBA 15, NH2 SBA 15 and Fe3O4 SBA 15 Cya Cit Au NPs have been summarized in Table 1. It is noteworthy that the surface area, pore volume, and pore size decreased following the modification, confirming that the surface modification occurred on the inner surface of the silica wall [23]. A considerable decrease in the BET surface area upon grafting of cyanuric citric acid and Au nanocrystallites at the surface of the functionalized SBA 15 material (B) clearly suggests that the cyanuric citric acid and Au nanoparticles have been anchored on the inner surface of the mesopores. 3.4. Bearing in mind the prevailing issue of creative accounting, one cannot help but to question the accuracy of the data, be it to a small degree, presented in data sources such as prospectuses and annual reports. It is fair to say that the evidences presented in for example table 4 and 5 give a logical support to the assertions and observations made by the author. Overall, I believe the author has been successful in terms of providing the reader an understanding and depths as to what are the key drivers behind the use of this practice. The paper lightly attempts to outline an important question why or for how long these motivators and constraints support creative accounting schemes appear to go undetected. Shah (1998) concluded that despite Tesco pursuing similar policies to that of Burton, it had a healthy underlying performance and so had fewer repercussions on the firms. Consequently, it does not only identify and state factors and answer his own questions pertaining to the title of this paper, but also infers logically from the evidence that it s a combinations of a strong mix of the UK financial reporting environment as an explanation to why the concept flourished in the 1980 s. • 42. Human Manipulation Of Genetic Transfer And Its Biological... AS91607 Demonstrate understanding of human manipulations of genetic transfer and its biological implications By Ryan Neill (3 credits) Case Study 1: Selective Breeding Organism: Cattle (Bos Taurus) Over time, all organisms are subject to natural selection. Natural selection is where Nature selects against traits that either disadvantage the organism or against traits that are not of any use to the organism; these are known as adaptations. These adaptations can be seen in many forms. They include: behaviours that allow better evasion of predators, an anatomical feature that improves their chances of survival (this could include brighter colours to find a breeding partner or larger horns to fight off predators), or a protein that functions better at body temperature. These could all be adaptations. Natural selection is the result of variation and heredity. It is not considered random as it is nature s way of selecting the superior organisms to carry its species into the future with the best chance of survival. Humans have carried out selective breeding for centuries. Selective breeding is the process by which humans select which animals or plants reproduce to develop particular phenotypic traits that will benefit us. This will result in the offspring to be superior to its parents. Selecting breeding can be both intentional and unintentional. For example, unintentional selection may be caused during cultivation in some grains, an increase in seed size may have resulted from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The ability to regulate emotions, thoughts, and behaviors while controlling impulses all have to do with self management and regulation. These social related skills are impacted by one s own temperament. Though temperament is believed to be present at birth, research indicates that there are many environmental factors that can influence temperament. Originally, research on temperament traits in young children were focused on a child s genetic disposition at birth. However; today, environmental influences are considered to be equally important to the influence of a child s temperament development as inborn predispositions. Temperament impacts the young child in many ways, especially in the development of social competence as it relates to the ability to empathize with others and in the development of relationship skills including ability to effectively communicate. Rudasill, Reio, and Stipanovic (2010) research also reiterated that teachers who create positive, nurturing, and affectionate classroom environments are more likely to have students who flourish and assert positive social skills when managing social and behavioral challenges. Ordinarily, one has to consider one s values as well as preferred consequences in order to make the better or best choice. In the short story, What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish? by Etgar Keret, Sergei Goralick faced a similar conundrum. As an aloof Russian expatriate fisherman in Jaffa, Israel, his only company is a magic three wishgranting fish. But having impulsively murdered Yonatan, Goralick had to decide whether to use his last wish to save the boy or keep his magic goldfish companion. Though he would have preferred the latter, Goralick made the better choice saving Yonatan as it matches his established humaneness and the consequences attached were more reasonable. Before he arrived at this decision, Gorelick considered covering up the murder to keep the fish. He said, Fixable... I ll just mop up the blood... When I m fishing,...I ll tie the kid to a rock and dump him in the sea. Not a chance, not in a million years, will anyone ever find him. ( lines 164 171) His stubbornness started surfacing, obstructing his sound reasoning. Goralick tried to find excuses in order not to use his last wish. For example, he said that he was saving it for something important.Goralick was ambivalent.Whilst suggesting this, he forgot how scared he was to even touch Yonatan s blood(lines 124 127). That along with his statement, He can t be dead (110 113) proves that had he chosen otherwise, Goralick would have suffered from guilt. В•Situational Awareness (SA): A flight crew s loss of situational awareness is identified when a pilot controls an aircraft to the wrong parameters. (Doane, Woo Sohn, Jodlowski, 2004, pg 92) An example of loss of SA is a flight crew descending an aircraft below 3,000 feet prior to being established on the Localizer (an electronically provided extended runway centerline that allows pilots to use instruments to line up on the runway). These are acquired formally through set lessons or informally through the hidden curriculum which provides the unofficial and unplanned consequences of school experience. Social Inequality is one of the major preoccupations of sociology. The relationship between inequality and education has been studied for many years. Although it seems obvious that educational success is simply down to an individual s capabilities and motivation, sociological research shows that the inequalities in social class, gender and race and ethnicity ... On the other hand if the teacher labels a pupil as un co operative or from a poor background, this can cause low self esteem and the pupil will be likely to fail to achieve much success. The Neo Marxist s perspective on class stratification in Britain claims that schools create a false class consciousness so it seems that they promote equal opportunities for all, but they really reproduce a capitalist division of labour, preparing young people for class determined careers in the labour market. Willis (1977) accepts the Marxist s view on education being closely linked to the needs of the capitalist s system; however he does not agree with the idea of there being a direct link between education and the economy. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008) His study found that poorer children often grow up in environments where people see little hope of upward social mobility and rebel against the system rather than trying to conform with in. In such an environment adults often discourage rather than encourage success at school. (Macionis. J, Plummer.K, 2008) Social class is not the only inequality in Britain s schooling. Sociologists have also found a link between gender and academic success. Until the late 1980 s there was high concern about the underachievement of girls. Societies had been structured to consider schooling more important for males than for females. Although the gap in gender ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Advantages And Disadvantages Of PDMS Based Microfluidic... The earliest microfluidic devices were made mostly made from silicon since the technology for patterning silicon wafers had already been developed by the electronics industry for its usage in microelectronics and micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS). Silicon however has the following disadvantages: (1) It is not optically transparent in the wavelength range used for optical detection; (2) Its conductive properties make it unsuitable for applications that involve electro kinetic flow to transport fluids; (3) Proteins tend to bind to silicon non selectively which rules out its application in immunoassays [Bange et al, 2005] There has recently been a lot of interest in PDMS based microfluidic systems due the numerous advantages it offers compared to glass and silicon [Kong J et al, 2009; Tanyu Wang et al, 2013 and Alphonsus et al, 2010]. PDMS is easy to fabricate, flexible, optically transparent and can irreversibly bind to itself through the application of oxygen plasma. Another major advantage is that PDMS based devices can be fabricated in normal laboratory conditions as opposed to clean room conditions that are expensive to maintain and access. PDMS is also hydrophobic that is desirable for... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This half an hour process involves the deposition of a layer of APTES at the channel surface. This opens a route for the facile derivatization of the modified PDMS surface with small organic molecules or biomolecules, in a manner analogous to the use of silanized glass or metal oxide substrates. The methodology offers significant advantages, including reduced reaction times and equipment requirements compared to processes such as removing uncured oligomers by curing PDMS for a longer time [Eddington et al, 2006] and monomer grafting. It is inexpensive and suitable for commercial adoption [John Beal et al, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
