Human Event Reflection
This semester in The Human Event, we read multiple diverse texts and we discussed and worked with
them in ways that I have not experienced in High School. Instead of discussing the texts based on
random details that we find in the text, we discussed what the text meant to the overall story, or better
yet, what the evidence said about the culture of the story and human nature. I learned a great deal
about the diverse meanings of human life, and I learned about various cultures and pieces of their
history. Additionally, we wrote papers based on textual evidence to argue points in a way on a higher
level than I was used to. My argumentative ability evolved from using plot summary into deeply
analyzing parts of the text to prove a point. From developing concrete skills to the cultural content I
was exposed to, I have grown from this semester in The Human Event.
When I started the semester in The Human Event, I had little ability of supporting my position
effectively. When I wrote my first paper in The Human Event, I defaulted to the standard of argument
that was present in high school: I summarized the plot of the text. Even to the foundation of my
roadmap, I attempted to follow a chronological order to Gilgamesh, as I specifically stated that I have
structured this paper to follow the order of the plot . In the rest of my paper, I didn t even follow the
plot effectively. Instead of following the plot, I provided episodes within the plot. For example, I
jumped from writing

John Berger and History
In his first essay of Ways of Seeing, John Berger claims that all power, authority, and meaning that
was once held by an original work of art has been lost through the mass reproduction of these works
that has occurred in recent years. He writes of an entirely bogus religiosity (116 117) that surrounds
these art objects and that the meaning of the original work no longer lies in what it uniquely says but
in what it uniquely is (117). He claims that because of reproduction, the art of the past no longer exists
as it once did (127). Obviously, something created hundreds of years ago is not the same as it once
was, but the distribution of art and music to the general public has had a positive effect on society
rather than a negative one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
how our perception is influenced). In using that word, he is referring to the social exploitation of the
past: how the rich were painted, patronizing poor artists (i.e. Hals), and in this fashion demonstrating
the monopoly the wealth and upper class had on the arts. To support his argument, he writes that
reproduction is used all the time to promote the illusion that nothing has changed except that the
masses, thanks to reproduction, can now begin to appreciate art as the cultured minority once did.
Understandably, the masses remain uninterested and skeptical (127). He claims that the masses don t
appreciate the art because it is not a part of their history. It seems that because of this, however, the art
has not really lost any integrity anyway. The only change is that now, anyone who wishes to access it
is able to, but it still holds an esoteric quality that the cultural elite can enjoy. Berger shows that the
majority of the population does not attend museums. Does not this give them power that the rich can
still enjoy, while making it possible for the masses to experience as well if they want to? Reproduction
has opened the lines of education of culture as well. Before reproduction, the rich were the only ones
who owned art, attended the opera, and the like, but it is probable that these people only attended these
functions to show off their wealth, without really knowing or caring about the

Proposal Plan Part 1
Proposal Plan, Part I
Vanessa Lecoin
University of Phoenix
HRM 595 Human resources capstone
As vice president of Human Resources for VS Lecoin s Family Hospital I am responsible for 500
employees. I have a proposal that will address what type of staff VS Lecoin s Family Hospital
requires, what type of organizational behaviors we should include in the facility toward our staff,
workforce diversity, implementing diversity, employee relations, and employee retention plans. I also
want to focus on why we should not use outsourcing for this facility.

By allowing these modifications into action, we will be able to keep our employees and recruit new
ones.
Outsourcing not an option for workforce planning
Outsourcing may not be a good option for organizational workforce planning because VS Lecoin s
Family Hospital is a family and community run organization and outsourcing will not allow the
organization to maintain a warm community atmosphere. Outsourcing creates an atmosphere where
patients may interact with third party vendors during customer service calls or emergency calls with
employees more likely not from the same country, familiar or fluent with the English language, or
speak the language very clearly enough for the patients to understand (Cotriss, 2009). Socially
outsourcing creates a hardship for locals to access the position because the positions is would be
offered to vendors outside the country. Outsourcing is a conflict of interest if VS Lecoin s Family
Hospital hires outside of the community instead of hiring within the community, this would not create
a community atmosphere that goes against VS Lecoin s Family Hospital goal. Outsourcing creates an
environment which the outside sources only know scripted information regarding the organization
instead of acquiring firsthand personal knowledge regarding VS Lecoin

Cause And Effect Of Persuasive Speech On School Shootings
WASHINGTON Standing before vast crowds from Washington to Los Angeles to Parkland, Fla., the
speakers nearly all of them students, some still in elementary school delivered an anguished and
defiant message: They are done hiding from gun violence, and will stop at nothing to get politicians to
finally prevent it. The students, as they seized the nation s attention on Saturday with raised fists and
tear streaked faces, vowed that their grief about school shootings and their frustration with adults
inaction would power a new generation of political activism. If they continue to ignore us, to only
pretend to listen, then we will take action where it counts, Delaney Tarr, a student at Marjory

Softball Research Paper
A similar and also popular game is softball. It was an Olympic sport from 1996 to 2008. Like baseball,
it will be played in the 2020 Olympics after nnot being in the calendar in the last two Games.
Softball uses a larger ball and is played on a smaller field. It was invented in Chicago, Illinois, United
States in 1887. The game went through various names including mush ball, kitten ball and playground
ball. In 1926, it was finally called softball.
In the beginning, softball had a variety of rules. To resolve the differences, a rules committee was
formed in 1923. The committee later became the foundation of the International Joint Rules
Committee on Softball. In 1933, the Amateur Softball Association of America became the governing
body of the sport. Today, the World Baseball Softball Confederation regulates the ... Show more

Compare And Contrast Keats And Sailing To Byzantium
Sailing to Byzantium represents a metaphorical journey from the material world to an eternal world;
there is a spiritual quest in the poem. The poet desires to go to Byzantium, which is symbolic of the
world of spirituality, art and culture. There is a contrast between the two types of life in the poem i.e.
the physical life (material) and spiritual life. The materialistic and temporary has been represented by
the younger generation who is busy enjoying the sensual pleasure and is embroiled in their own lives.
They are so busy in the worldly pleasures that they ignore the old people. No matter how beautiful and
young they may be, their beauty will fade and become old as no one can defy age. On the other hand
the spiritual world, which is eternal, has been represented by the ... Show more content on

Both the poets believe that it is only art which can give solace and contentment in life. The
impermanence of all the earthly and living things has been contrasted with the permanence which art
bestows on them. According to Keats, the work of art is more vivid than the actual life as it has its
own life; Keats touches on this in the third stanza of the poem. Like Yeats, Keats in Ode on a Grecian
Urn also talks about imagination and music:
Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endear d, Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone. (Keats) It gives praise to
the sound and activity within the images, as the scenes never seem to age. Paradoxes are used towards
the differences of participation and observation, permanence and change, music and silence. Another
paradox given is of activity and non activity, as well as the melancholy of joy or sadness, such as:

The Anasazi were a Native American people who were the ancestors of another group called the
Pueblos. The Anasazi are a group that first started in 300 A.D. to 1500. They stayed in what today
called is the four corners. ( Where the states Utah, Colorado, , Arizona, and New Mexico meet). The
name Anasazi is not used for often by the descendants . It is a Navajo word that is translated to
ancestors of our enemies . Anasazi society began as scattered settlements of farmers living in a small
town called pueblos. In 1050 they were staying at Chaco Canyon in New York. They had more than

good engineering skills. They were able to make dams , canals, and ditches to help with their fields.

Hurricane Emily Research Paper
Hurricane Emily
Hurricane Emily was a powerful tropical cyclone that wreaked havoc across the Caribbean Sea to
Mexico. It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis
had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed
over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over
the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first
category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and
Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. On July 20th, the storm
dissipated within 24 hours. The scientific name for this type of storm is a tropical cyclone ; however,
when formed over the Atlantic Ocean or the Eastern Pacific Ocean, they are called hurricanes.
Hurricanes are formed in intense low pressure areas in these oceans. The fuel of a hurricane is water
vapour from the surface of the ocean. This water vapour condenses to form clouds and rain which, in
turn, warms the surrounding air. When there is little wind shear over the ocean (this is what usually
takes the heat away), the heat will build up and cause pressure to form. This causes wind to spiral in

homeless from this, and had to sleep outside in the cold for many nights. There was a distinct lack of

to go, because of the hospital flooding, and many people were left jobless, having no way to earn
money for food or clean water. Damages in Jamaica came up to $65 million, although, again, many
homes were flooded and several families were homeless. Several crops, such as bananas, were injured,

Comparing The Tortilla Curtain And Child, In The Rose Garden
The social commentaries in both The Tortilla Curtain by T.C. Boyle and Child, Dead, in the Rose
Garden by E.L. Doctorow unveils the true reality of the American Government and the social injustice
of the American society. In the Tortilla Curtain, T.C. Boyle took upon an adventure of two illegal
immigrants from Mexico who faced the unsettling truth of the social class system of America. But In
Child, Dead, in a Rose Garden E.L. Doctorow expresses the injustice of the Government and their
ability to blindside the public with fraudulent information. Both of these writings apply a different
structure, which can ultimately show the differences on such similar ideas. The authors E.L Doctorow
and T.C.Boyle write about two very different topics. One story shows just how does the social class
system work, and the interaction between immigration and immigrants. While E.L. Doctorow s writes
about a death of a young man which was the symbol of what would change America. Now aside from
the plots themselves, they share similar ideas, like the viewpoint of they always win and the unsettling
reality on the rulings of the Government. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ethical Responsibilities At The Termination Of Their Group
.54#2. What are your ethical responsibilities to group members at the termination of their group?
Explain As a group leader, I have a myriad of ethical responsibilities to the group members, especially
at the closing of the group. I need to exercise due diligence by using sound professional judgement to
make sure each of my clients have some form of closure before they leave the group. In order to
facilitate and prepare the group members for closure, I want to address three main points; I want to
consolidate what they learned in the group, understand what they will do with what they learned, and
how will they continue receiving support. Each member should share during this time. By
consolidating what these men learned in this group, we will be able to understand where each member
stands. In this group, members should have learned how to deal with their stress levels and find
meaning in their diagnosis. Ethically, I need to recap during the last sessions with the clients to remind
them what they have learned so the group experience was not for naught. Accordingly, I want to
summarize with the group what they learned about the challenges of being HIV positive while
encouraging them to use the skills they learned in the group outside of the group, while keeping the
confidentiality of the group members. Accordingly with my facilitation, the clients should explore and
summarize for themselves what they learned and how they have changed in the group over the past
twelve weeks.

Money, Happiness And Happiness
Are you happy when you make a lot of money? It is the biggest controversy of happiness economics
which is a happiness research result of the relationship between personal satisfaction and economic
issues. They had found that at a certain point, the increase in annual income does not bring much
happiness anymore. What do you think? Even if you do not mind the theory, you can get what you
want to buy by graduating from college and earning money with a job. What if you make too much
money? If you are looking through the media to see the life of the jugglers, they do not seem perfectly
happy. It seems that there is no big difference with our lives. They may appear happy sometimes and
sometimes sad. For a long time, people have always been worried that money and happiness are
proportional to the words, Money cannot buy happiness. The freedom of choice we get, happiness and
money are together. The most of important thing in our lives is the true happiness and tranquil mind.
However, according to a professor Richard Ainley Easterlin of USC in a scholarly study of the subject
Does more money make happier? He stated, Does more money make happier? To judge from survey
responses, most people certainly think so, although there is a limit. When asked how much more
money they would need to be completely happy, people typically name a figure greater than their
current income by about 20 percent. Indeed, if happiness and income are compared at any point in
time, those with more

The Climate of Arrakis in Dune by Frank Herbert Essay
The climate of a planet plays a significant role in determining how life presumes. In fact, a hot climate
makes water so scarce, that saliva is valuable. In the novel Dune, Frank Herbert makes the climate of
Arrakis so significant, that dead bodies are seen as a water source. The climate on the planet of Arrakis
makes water less significant than blood, because water cannot exist without blood. Arrakis s climate is
also a plus, because the warriors that live there are much more adapted to it than anyone who was to
invade to conquer. The planet of Arrakis is seen as a gold mine for mélange, because it has such a high
potency of it, and the Fremen are pretty much in charge of it. This would then cause other rivals to try

It s mouth was some eighty meters in diameter...with crystal teeth with the curved shape of crysknives
glinting around the rim...the bellows breath of cinnamon (Herbert 225). Simply delineates the
monstrosity of these brobdingnagian creatures. And he also says, Worms of more than four hundred
meters in length have been recorded by reliable witnesses, and there s reason to believe even larger
ones exist. (Herbert 356). This gives a glimpse of how truculent the worms can be, and given the fact
that the climate provides a tough environment, the worms can be connected to the climate, because if
the climate was not so cruel, and hot, then more precipitation would occur on the planet, and water is
poisonous to the worm. Worms would cause drastic change to society if they were to disappear,
because the worm s feed on Sand Plankton, and sand plankton eat the mélange in the sands of Arrakis.
The term Little Makers makes its appearance when the sand plankton grows, and become little
makers, because they make mélange. This leads to how important the sandworms really are. The
Fremen are dependent on the worm, because of the spice that the little makers make. And the Fremen
are dependent on the spice, or they will die. So, if the climate were to pose a death sentence for the
worms, there would be a deadly process of what would follow: precipitation occurs, and the worms,
and little makers would start to die. This would then cause the creation, and distribution of mélange to

Unethical Practices For Business Success Essay
We have heard the well used phrase, When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and have applied it well as
we travel among other countries and cultures, with great success. However, in business, it does not
prove to be as much of a reliable phrase to live by. General practices of businesses can sometimes
prove to be unethical, even though they are quite legal, or were simply unethical in their conduct and
operations, with no remorse. Unethical practices by businesses have often been a catalyst in their
demise. Hence, for business success, we might say, When in business, practicing integrity is good
business, because if it is adhered to, it can be a recipe for success.
According to an article, Unethical Rationalizations and Misconceptions, which was published by
ethicsalarms.com, there are countless excuses and reasons people justify unethical practices, whether
they are legal or illegal. Every form of excuse, It s done all the time, to It s always been done this way,
to Everybody accepts it, to Nobody s complained before, to It s too late to change now, to No harm, no
foul, to name a few. These justifications are clearly evident that the ABCDs of ethical decision making
have been bypassed.
When operating a business, it is more profitable to consider every aspect of the outcome of the
decisions that we make. We need to be aware of the facts of the entire situation. Who will it impact
most and to what degree? How do I feel about the decision I am going to make?

An Analysis Of Peter Stanley s Dead Wrong
I strongly believe that Dead Wrong should be selected for study for all year eight students at Mater
Maria Catholic College. This statement roots from effective utilisation of appropriate language, given
that the target audience is year eights with constantly expanding knowledge of the surrounding world.
This is also due to the encapsulation of themes within the novel that are perfectly fitted to year eights
at Mater Maria. The success of this novel is also illuminated through crime fiction conventions, which
are composed to broaden the students knowledge and understanding of the genre and what is required
to construct a plot under the genre of crime fiction. Having assembled these points, I will now outline
why Peter Stanley s Dead Wrong should be selected as the novel of year eight study with literary
evidence.
My first point as to why Dead Wrong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In actuality the struggle of finding a novel with the use of themes suitable for the particular year group
is definitely not a trouble free task. Dead Wrong makes use of the most suitable combination of
gruelling or advanced themes for year eight responders through the perfect interval of literary
elements. Themes prominent within the novel are suspense, tension and not jumping to conclusions.
These themes aid in portraying the mature aspect of the novel and assisting with the students growing
knowledge. The quote Wilson got up, chased and charged at him again, slashing him across the body
once more before Sweeney could raise his gun. implies that the novel uses fairly gruesome language
reflecting the target audience. Having used this language, year eights would advance in their English
and writing skills due to the newfound knowledge of language techniques and age level appropriation.
This makes Dead Wrong the best choice for year eight and should definitely be chosen by all year

Spain, England, and France led the colonization of the Americas having distinct missions, and using
different approach. By the mid 1960 s, all these great nations were in a race to establish American
colonies. Like in every expedition, the primary purposes were to gain wealth and riches, which was
the main reasoning behind all of the colonization s. On their way to building these settlements, the
colonials encountered the Native Americans and had to deal with them in very different ways. The
first of these nations to arrive in the new world was Spain, led by Christopher Columbus. In 1492,

William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice
In many ways, shylock is a more difficult character for a modern audience than for an Elizabethan
audience. With close reference to Act 1 scene 3, Act 3 scene 1 and Act 4 scene 1 show how an actor
might reveal the human being behind the stereotype.
The merchant of Venice is a play written in Elizabethan times by William Shakespeare. The play is set
in Elizabethan Venice. The play starts with Antonio, a rich merchant, who is depressed without any
obvious reason. He denies that he is worried about his merchant ships or that he is in love.

Portia quickly arranges a speedy wedding and then sends the two husbands back to Venice with an

Lorenzo and Jessica are left to look after the house as Portia and Nerissa pretend to go to a religious

robes and Legal advice from one of Portia s cousins, Bellario.
Antonio has been allowed to visit Shylock from gaol to try and persuade him to be lenient. Shylock,
however, is having none of it as he is bent on having his revenge.
In court, Antonio casts a sorry figure, he makes it clear that there is no way that Shylock will change
his mind and has psychologically resigned himself to his fate. He knows that the law cannot be altered
for one man s convenience.
After appealing in vain to Shylock, Portia confirms the law.
Shylock has all of his apparatus with him and ready prepared. At the last moment just before he is
about to kill Antonio, Portia points out that he is not to spill any blood, and that he must take only a
pound of flesh, no more, no less. If he breaks this rule then Shylock must die. Also, he has tried to kill
a Venetian citizen, so half of his goods must go to his intended victim and the other half of his goods

Flannery O Connor Religion
Generally when a person writes a story, they use past experiences and adventures in their life to help
create a plot for their stories. Usually these events create a base for which the author writes upon thus
contributing to the author s exceptional way of thinking. For example, author Terry Teachout says that
O Connor s religious beliefs were central to her art (Teachout 56). O Connor s religion played a
crucial role in her writings. Flannery O Connor is regarded one of the major brief tale authors in

She successfully uses made up characters from the south to depict a rather bizarre religiosity of the
protestant fundamentalists to show a spiritual life which is struggling to exist in what is rather a non
spiritual world. Flannery O Connor s qualifications affected her to create the story Revelation. an
essential impact on the tale is her Southern experience. During her life time, Southerners were
extremely prejudiced towards other people of other cultures. They regarded that poor individuals were
substandard to them; therefore, individuals were marked as different things and placed into different
community sessions. Loads and loads of works have been written with the sole intention of honouring
one O Connor and trying to shed some light on her literary genius. Unlike many writers of her time O
Connor did not write to entertain or edify. She was not a modernist either something that influenced
her writing style towards grotesque shock other than gentle persuasion Her literature sought to reorder

modern classic writer. In her fictions work, she does not shy to criticize spiritual apathy and
materialism critiquing the modern day rationalism s nullification to the need for a Christian faith

A Brief Summary Of The Banning Of Books
What Johnny Can t Read: Censorship In American Libraries
This article aimed to express the concerns and disappointments of those who are not pleased with the
banning of very popular books they loved as a children. These people do not agree with book banning
because in their times, when they were children, they were allowed to read whatever appealed to them.
Amongst these now banned books are; The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Black Beauty, Scary
Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Catcher in the Rye, as well as many other classic books. But this book
banning is not something fairly new. Book banning started in the early 1990s where by 1994, the
demand for removal of books had increased by more than 50%.

The Courage and Strength in All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque
As I enter my last week as a twenty year old, I find myself nostalgically looking back on the past two
decades while wondering what life has in store for me over the next two. Where will I be in twenty
years? What will I have accomplished? Where will I be living? Will I be married? Have chil... wait a
minute, no, that one will have to wait a few more years. These questions have all passed through my
mind at one point or another over the last few weeks, but I realize that they are really quite a luxury.

Paul most clearly displays his strength on the each of these levels when a bombardment begins to rip
apart the graveyard in which he and his comrades had been resting. A single reading of the passage
reveals the first level upon which Paul excels: as a soldier. His training in No. 9 platoon under
Corporal Himmelstoss made sure that he would not be killed the moment he stepped foot in the
trenches, but the knowledge that he displays in this time of crisis did not come from parade grounds or
noncommissioned officers; it came from months of trench warfare, from experience under fire, and
from the natural instinct to make the right choices when it matters most. From the beginning of the
passage, one can observe Paul s course of action: he does not think, he reacts. From the moment the
first shell lands, he begins gathering information: By the light of the shells I try to get a view of the
fields (66). When his sleeve is torn away, he does not trust the fact that he feels no pain. Paul thinks:
the fact that [I feel no pain] does not reassure me: wounds don t hurt until afterwards. I feel the arm all
over. It is grazed but sound (66). His actions reveal some of his soldiering merit, but not all.
Aside from his explicit actions, Paul s implicit thoughts reveal

The Dc Metro Area Reduce Violence Regarding Firearms Essay
Guiding Question(s) How can the DC metro area reduce violence regarding firearms? How can gun
control laws helps solve this issue?
Introduction/Background
DC metro area is known for having one of the strictest gun control laws in the US, but it highest crime
rate regarding firearms in the whole country (Phillips). In July 2014, the case Palmer v. District of
Columbia (2014) said that there is an absolution prohibition on carrying handguns out of your home,
place of business or specific recreational purposes (Alman). There are numerous requirements that
need to be met to obtain a concealed carry permit in the District of Columbia. Cities and Metropolitan
areas have firearm homicide rates in line with the nations with one of the highest homicide rate.
Homicide and gun crimes in Washington DC has increased every year despite the overall crime rate
being relatively the same. Armed robberies has went up to 16 percent and assault with a dangerous
weapons involving a firearm went up to 19 percent (Alman).
Thesis Statement In the DC Metropolitan Area, violence regarding firearm has been a big issue. It has
one of the highest homicide rates involving firearm in the country even though they are known for
having one of the strictest gun control laws in the country. Gun control in the an metropolitan area is
impossible, but little changes can be made in order to reduce the amount of damage that firearms have
brought to the city. Creating a system to take accountability of the

The Democratic Process Of Southeast Asian Countries
The democratic process of Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore, has seen very
little significant changes from civil society action. While each of these countries have claimed to be
democratic nations, there has been little change in terms of government rule since their independence.
These civil society groups are ones that reflect the ideas and values of a group of people, in pursuit of
a common goal. The changes that have resulted are in Malaysia and Singapore s governments, have
been to restructure or assert their power to maintain control over these civil societies. This has been
accomplished through media reform and regulations. Opposition to these ruling systems have been
met with great friction, but nonetheless have seen some success in changing the state of its operation
in small ways, yet not significantly due to the scope of their power. As democratic nations, Malaysia
and Singapore, do hold elections though only one party has held power in each nation since their
independence. Malaysia has been governed by the United Malays National Organization (Lec: 9/7)
since 1957 and Singapore has been ruled by the People s Action Party since 1965 (Lec: 9/21).
Governmental positions have mostly been uncontested with walkover winnings (Lec: 9/26) since this
time, due to election tactics. UMNO has maintained control of the political sphere by ruling as a
coalition, offering incentives for supporters and aggression for opposition (Lec: 9/7). Similarly, the

The Status Of Forces Agreements
Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military
agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA itself
does not constitute a security agreement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of U.S.
personnel present in a state in support of the larger security strategy, and providing some legal
safeguards for service members stationed abroad (Mason 2011) . While the host nation and the U.S.
sign SOFAs after extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host
nations and an exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation
compromised by signing these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the
arrangements, or it is more about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting
SOFA s like the one between the U.S. and South Korea (ROK) seem to have endured the test of time
and the domestic and international criticism that generates. On the other hand, short lived agreements
like the one between the U.S. and Iraq succumbed to the internal political turmoil created by the
presence of foreign military forces on their soil. In this document, I will try to compare and contrast
both agreements in an attempt to demonstrate that the circumstances that generated the agreement play
an essential part in the quality and the duration of it.
Studying SOFAs is important in the field of

influence over political power than ever before. It is the role of spin doctors to construct a favourable

traditional Marine Corps fighting doctrine. The traditional doctrine called for a 3 1 superiority in order

Also in exhibit 3, the average annual return of the 10 year Treasury bond during the same time period
is 5.28%. Therefore, the spread between the average market return and the risk free rate, or the equity

s stock returns in relation to the rest of the market through 5 year historical price and index data. The
analysis includes monthly returns of both the NYSE and the S amp;P 500 index in order to capture a
comprehensive view of the market return. In each comparison, the monthly returns of the Target stock
and market are plotted on Y axis and X axis respectively to get the regression line s slope or beta. The
analysis arrives at an average beta of 0.988 which indicates a similar movement of Target stock s
returns in comparison to the whole market over time.
Given these approximations, the CAPM model would total the risk free rate and the market risk

In the early evening back at home Consuelo was still pacing in front of the café window. Concerned
for the safety of her only son, who had departed this morning wearing his sleepwear and robe. Her jaw

1. The Truman Show included multiple scenes of people reading newspaper headlines. The headlines
had secret meanings to them that an unknown viewer would not notice.
Crackdown on Homeless: This headline appeared the day after the presumed homeless man identified
himself as Truman s father. After he did this, random people took him away. The intent of the
newspaper was to convince Truman that the person he encountered was a homeless man and that

was so the viewer had complete satisfaction. They used reasonable angles such as store security

Growth of Arab Nationalism
Arab nationalism was a movement striving for Arab political unity in the Middle East. There was
undoubtedly a huge increase in an Arab sense of nationalism between the years 1948 and 1973. One
major reason for this was the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, which gave the Arab powers
something to unite against, because not a single Arab nation recognised Israel as a legitimate state.
There were other reasons, however, most notably the continuing struggle of the Palestinian people and
the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Nasser and Arab frustrations with the actions of the west.
The State of Israel was created in 1948 after the British withdrew from their mandate after years of
terrorism. In its first day of existence it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A high point of Nasser s regime was the Suez crisis of 1956. He expelled Western imperialist troops
from the Suez Canal and it was portrayed as a huge victory, proving the Arab nations could compete
with the combined might of not only Israel but also France and Britain. Even though, in reality, it was
because the UN forced them to withdraw, it was made out to be because of the strength and
determination of Egyptian troops. Nasser was made out to be a hero in the Arab world, and mobs were
seen throughout the Arab world screaming and chanting Nasser s name. The Suez crisis, along with
the charismatic nature of Nasser, inspired belief in the Arab World that they could finally achieve their
goal: to liquidate and destroy Israel. Another way in which Nasser encouraged Arab nationalism was
through his opposition to the Baghdad Pact a pact aligning Turkey, Iran and potentially Iraq with the
Western Powers. Nasser, through the world largest radio station The voice of the Arabs , portrayed any
country thinking of joining the pact as traitors to the Arab people, thereby stirring up that feeling of
the Arabs being one people, as opposed to individual states who can make their own decisions. As a
consequence of Nasser s campaign only three states joined the pact. This was because the people were
so against the idea of abandoning the Arab fight the governments had no choice but to abandon the

slavery in brasil Essay
Because certain forms of slavery had existed for centuries on the continent of Africa, Brazilian
historians used to say that blacks imported from across the Atlantic were docile and ready to accept
their new status as slaves. This assertion is based on the unwarranted assumption that was true of a
limited area of Africa was typical of the continent as a whole.
All slavery in brazil was essentially the same depending on the task or the labor the slave had to
preform. In many cases the slaves was there to perform labor that was deplorable to the nobility. The
Peninsulares born on the Iberian peninsular or even Creoles born in the Americas. During the 1500
1800 s there were shortages of women from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was a strong market in brazil for beef especially dried beef because there was no refrigeration
system in those days. The cattle ranchers were called or known as Gougho.
Between the 15 century to the 18 century slavery was very much and economic institution. The Cost
factor in those times was very expensive to buy slaves from Africa. This played an important role on
the upkeep and how those slaves were treated. There were free blacks who owned slaves of their own.
The slaves that were bought were already slaves from the African kingdom. The slaves in the
Americas had no rights over themselves and their children had no social status. Slaves who worked on

Stereotypes In The Year 2000
Low cut jeans, halter tops, Von Dutch hats, and velour Juicy Couture tracksuits. Ed Hardy shirts, fake
Louis Vuitton handbags, and neckties as necklaces. Flare pants, chunky highlights, rhinestones, and
Baby Phat phone cases. Welcome to the year 2000. I bet many of you readers just got flashbacks. I
also bet many of you cringed and/or gasped in horror at said flashbacks. It s not an uncommon
reaction. Our own Andrea Klick summed it up when I told her my idea for this column: 2000s style is
disgusting! Indeed, most people would love to forget the aesthetic of this particular decade. The
transition from the oft lauded 90s to the big, fat, futuristic Y2K created a culture dominated by
Myspace, MTV, and Paris Hilton, with Kim Kardashian following her like a spray tanned, bag toting
lapdog. Call the decade too recent or call it too horrible; either way, a 2000s style revival is an idea oft
dismissed. We ve kept the early aughts frozen in time, never to be thawed and let their Victoria s
Secret body spray scented charms flow back into the mainstream. Until now. The first inklings of the
2000s revival popped up in 2015, most notably an online article from Vogue titled The Year in
Fashion: Are You Ready for the Second Coming of Early Aughts Style? . From there came more
articles, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And that, my friends, would go down in the family album as baby s first rebellion. I won t detail every
nuance of my angry rejection of popular culture, but I will admit to committing near unspeakable
atrocities to many an innocent Limited Too catalogue. I felt as if the whole world down to every last
speck of body glitter clinging to the gyrating hips of that week s teen pop starlet hated me, so I hated it
right back. And you thought you started your emo phase

  • 2. Human Event Reflection This semester in The Human Event, we read multiple diverse texts and we discussed and worked with them in ways that I have not experienced in High School. Instead of discussing the texts based on random details that we find in the text, we discussed what the text meant to the overall story, or better yet, what the evidence said about the culture of the story and human nature. I learned a great deal about the diverse meanings of human life, and I learned about various cultures and pieces of their history. Additionally, we wrote papers based on textual evidence to argue points in a way on a higher level than I was used to. My argumentative ability evolved from using plot summary into deeply analyzing parts of the text to prove a point. From developing concrete skills to the cultural content I was exposed to, I have grown from this semester in The Human Event. When I started the semester in The Human Event, I had little ability of supporting my position effectively. When I wrote my first paper in The Human Event, I defaulted to the standard of argument that was present in high school: I summarized the plot of the text. Even to the foundation of my roadmap, I attempted to follow a chronological order to Gilgamesh, as I specifically stated that I have structured this paper to follow the order of the plot . In the rest of my paper, I didn t even follow the plot effectively. Instead of following the plot, I provided episodes within the plot. For example, I jumped from writing ... • 3. John Berger and History In his first essay of Ways of Seeing, John Berger claims that all power, authority, and meaning that was once held by an original work of art has been lost through the mass reproduction of these works that has occurred in recent years. He writes of an entirely bogus religiosity (116 117) that surrounds these art objects and that the meaning of the original work no longer lies in what it uniquely says but in what it uniquely is (117). He claims that because of reproduction, the art of the past no longer exists as it once did (127). Obviously, something created hundreds of years ago is not the same as it once was, but the distribution of art and music to the general public has had a positive effect on society rather than a negative one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... how our perception is influenced). In using that word, he is referring to the social exploitation of the past: how the rich were painted, patronizing poor artists (i.e. Hals), and in this fashion demonstrating the monopoly the wealth and upper class had on the arts. To support his argument, he writes that reproduction is used all the time to promote the illusion that nothing has changed except that the masses, thanks to reproduction, can now begin to appreciate art as the cultured minority once did. Understandably, the masses remain uninterested and skeptical (127). He claims that the masses don t appreciate the art because it is not a part of their history. It seems that because of this, however, the art has not really lost any integrity anyway. The only change is that now, anyone who wishes to access it is able to, but it still holds an esoteric quality that the cultural elite can enjoy. Berger shows that the majority of the population does not attend museums. Does not this give them power that the rich can still enjoy, while making it possible for the masses to experience as well if they want to? Reproduction has opened the lines of education of culture as well. Before reproduction, the rich were the only ones who owned art, attended the opera, and the like, but it is probable that these people only attended these functions to show off their wealth, without really knowing or caring about the ... Outsourcing creates an atmosphere where patients may interact with third party vendors during customer service calls or emergency calls with employees more likely not from the same country, familiar or fluent with the English language, or speak the language very clearly enough for the patients to understand (Cotriss, 2009). Socially outsourcing creates a hardship for locals to access the position because the positions is would be offered to vendors outside the country. Outsourcing is a conflict of interest if VS Lecoin s Family Hospital hires outside of the community instead of hiring within the community, this would not create a community atmosphere that goes against VS Lecoin s Family Hospital goal. The poet desires to go to Byzantium, which is symbolic of the world of spirituality, art and culture. There is a contrast between the two types of life in the poem i.e. the physical life (material) and spiritual life. The materialistic and temporary has been represented by the younger generation who is busy enjoying the sensual pleasure and is embroiled in their own lives. They are so busy in the worldly pleasures that they ignore the old people. No matter how beautiful and young they may be, their beauty will fade and become old as no one can defy age. It broke the record for being the strongest hurricane formed, just days after Hurricane Dennis had done so. The storm formed on July 10th, 2005 in the centre of the Atlantic Ocean. It then passed over the Windward Islands on the 14th, before traveling west northwest and slowly intensified over the Caribbean until it hit its peak as a Category 5 hurricane on July 16th. This made it the first category 5 hurricane of the year. The storm travelled over the Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 4, and Emily hit the Gulf of Mexico and Tamaupullas in the next few days. In order to facilitate and prepare the group members for closure, I want to address three main points; I want to consolidate what they learned in the group, understand what they will do with what they learned, and how will they continue receiving support. Each member should share during this time. By consolidating what these men learned in this group, we will be able to understand where each member stands. In this group, members should have learned how to deal with their stress levels and find meaning in their diagnosis. This gives a glimpse of how truculent the worms can be, and given the fact that the climate provides a tough environment, the worms can be connected to the climate, because if the climate was not so cruel, and hot, then more precipitation would occur on the planet, and water is poisonous to the worm. Paul most clearly displays his strength on the each of these levels when a bombardment begins to rip apart the graveyard in which he and his comrades had been resting. A single reading of the passage reveals the first level upon which Paul excels: as a soldier. His training in No. 9 platoon under Corporal Himmelstoss made sure that he would not be killed the moment he stepped foot in the trenches, but the knowledge that he displays in this time of crisis did not come from parade grounds or noncommissioned officers; it came from months of trench warfare, from experience under fire, and from the natural instinct to make the right choices when it matters most. From the beginning of the passage, one can observe Paul s course of action: he does not think, he reacts. From the moment the first shell lands, he begins gathering information: By the light of the shells I try to get a view of the fields (66). When his sleeve is torn away, he does not trust the fact that he feels no pain. Paul thinks: the fact that [I feel no pain] does not reassure me: wounds don t hurt until afterwards. The Democratic Process Of Southeast Asian Countries The democratic process of Southeast Asian countries, such as Malaysia and Singapore, has seen very little significant changes from civil society action. While each of these countries have claimed to be democratic nations, there has been little change in terms of government rule since their independence. These civil society groups are ones that reflect the ideas and values of a group of people, in pursuit of a common goal. The changes that have resulted are in Malaysia and Singapore s governments, have been to restructure or assert their power to maintain control over these civil societies. This has been accomplished through media reform and regulations. Opposition to these ruling systems have been met with great friction, but nonetheless have seen some success in changing the state of its operation in small ways, yet not significantly due to the scope of their power. • 32. The Status Of Forces Agreements Status of Forces Agreements (SOFAs) are often included, along with other types of military agreements, as part of a comprehensive security arrangement with a particular country. A SOFA itself does not constitute a security agreement; rather, it establishes the rights and privileges of U.S. personnel present in a state in support of the larger security strategy, and providing some legal safeguards for service members stationed abroad (Mason 2011) . While the host nation and the U.S. sign SOFAs after extensive negotiations, many believe they are a threat to the sovereignty of the host nations and an exercise of U.S. influence in the world. So, is the sovereignty of a host nation compromised by signing these agreements? Is this a zero sum game for the countries entering the arrangements, or it is more about cooperation and mutual benefit to the signatories? Long lasting SOFA s like the one between the U.S. and South Korea (ROK) seem to have endured the test of time and the domestic and international criticism that generates. On the other hand, short lived agreements like the one between the U.S. and Iraq succumbed to the internal political turmoil created by the presence of foreign military forces on their soil. In this document, I will try to compare and contrast both agreements in an attempt to demonstrate that the circumstances that generated the agreement play an essential part in the quality and the duration of it. There was undoubtedly a huge increase in an Arab sense of nationalism between the years 1948 and 1973. One major reason for this was the creation of the State of Israel in 1948, which gave the Arab powers something to unite against, because not a single Arab nation recognised Israel as a legitimate state. There were other reasons, however, most notably the continuing struggle of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation, Nasser and Arab frustrations with the actions of the west. The Suez crisis, along with the charismatic nature of Nasser, inspired belief in the Arab World that they could finally achieve their goal: to liquidate and destroy Israel. Another way in which Nasser encouraged Arab nationalism was through his opposition to the Baghdad Pact a pact aligning Turkey, Iran and potentially Iraq with the Western Powers. Nasser, through the world largest radio station The voice of the Arabs , portrayed any country thinking of joining the pact as traitors to the Arab people, thereby stirring up that feeling of the Arabs being one people, as opposed to individual states who can make their own decisions.
