The circulatory system is made up of three independent systems - the heart, lungs, and arteries/veins - that work together to circulate blood, nutrients, gases, hormones, and other substances to and from cells. It transports around 2,000 gallons of blood daily through 60,000 miles of blood vessels. The circulatory system is responsible for homeostasis and fighting disease by moving an average of 5-6 quarts of blood plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. It also transports lymph to help rid the body of unwanted materials.
