The circulatory system consists of blood, vessels, and a pump (heart) to circulate blood throughout the body. Blood transports gases, nutrients, wastes, and more, and helps fight diseases using white blood cells. The main types of vessels are arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry blood away from the heart while veins carry blood back to the heart. Capillaries are the smallest blood vessels where nutrients/gases are exchanged. The heart acts as the pump with four valves to ensure one-way blood flow.
