 Consist of two separate parts
 OHSAS 18001 –specifications
 OHSAS 18002 –guidelines for implementation of OHSAS 18001
 Originally developed by British standard institute (BSI)
 Revised to be more compatible with ISO 14001
 It allows 3rd party certification /registration
 Its not a international standard like ISO 9001 or ISO 14001
