2020 an Experience, 2021 an Opportunity
Welcome to our final Newsletter for 2020, We hope that you have managed to stay Safe & Well.
Well, what can we say about 2020! that has not already been said? Our experience at ODTI is
consistent with many Commentators and Analysts. Here are the highlights:
• Increased and Dynamic VUCA for most Organisations & Businesses, with a profound impact
on many as regards both Performance & Operations.
• Rapid Innovation & Agility for many as a ‘Survival Mode’ of operation, sometimes skipping
good change practice and discovering existing Change Model are not sophisticated enough
for today’s continuously changing environment.
• Significant Workplace Changes for Individuals and Teams and the need for supports and
development investment for both.
• Accelerated Digitization and Digital Transformation as a means of survival, continuity and
stakeholder engagement.
• New Capability Acquisition, Building & Maturity Improvement as a central Critical Success
Factor to underpin ‘Quick Fixes’ and make them sustainable, to support revised and
restructured Teams and Operations and Assure Digital Readiness and Transformation
Business Outcomes.
2021 Outlook
There is no doubt that we can see light at the end of the tunnel, but the drivers of VUCA such as
Geo-Political stability, International Trade postures, Health Crisis, Climate Change and Technology
evolution will remain, meaning for 2021 we anticipate continuing high levels of VUCA, returning to
some level of stability towards year end.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘New Normal’ this new level of stability will be different, in the sense
that we must, and will, learn to adapt and live with greater levels of change, a more Dynamic and
less predictable environments and ecosystems.
The adoption of more advanced models for Managing Change, Releasing Talent and maintaining and
growing organisation and team performance, such as Capability Maturity Frameworks will continue
its acceleration.
What we see as the priorities for Organisations will be:
• Securing the benefits and advantages from changes in 2020. This means ensuring that the
underpinning Capabilities and their Building Blocks are in place to sustain the gains.
• For many re-defining the Business, Business Model & Strategy based on 2020 learning and
forecast for 2021 and beyond. For some this will mean stopping and/or exiting a business or
activity
• Returning to growth and towards leadership advantage
• Building Agility (Change Capability), Innovation and Productivity into the DNA & Culture of
the organisation to thrive in the ‘New Normal’
• Acknowledging that ‘The Bar is Higher’ across every aspect of the Organisation and building
the right Capabilities to at least Level 5 (Competitive) and the Differentiating Capabilities to
at least Level 6 (Advantage) or Top Level 7 (Leadership)
You will find lots of resources that will help you on the OrgCMF™ Platform

Getting a good start to 2021
Most Organisations will now be setting out their plans, objectives and KPI’s for 2021 and beyond.
Many will have identified some Key Capabilities they need to develop. We recommend that
Organisations:
• Baseline their starting point as regards existing Capabilities and their Maturity Levels
• Prioritise those that need Maturity Improvement, as well as New Capabilities that must be
acquired and/or developed.
• Integrate the OrgCMF™ Development Roadmaps and guidance into operational Plans to
build required Capabilities & Maturities
• Benchmark and share learning across the Organisation & Teams

Systems Maturity Theory (DSMT).

Overview of DMI
Unlike other Capability Maturity Framework Models the DMI is Digital Business & Organisation
