Personnel Shortages
The need for highly trained intelligence personnel has never been more important. A personnel
shortage at the Intelligence Training Branch has a negative impact on the Coast Guard. The effects
of this shortage are resulting in signs of burn out within the staff, the graduates are not receiving the
highest quality of training, and the instructor billets are becoming harder to fill. From a chief s
perspective staff burn out is a high priority issue. With the exception of the School Chiefs and
Deputy School Chief all instructions for both A and C School come from the same central pool.
IS A School is the only school on site designed this way. We are billeted for six petty officers.
However, we currently only have two. That leaves two chiefs and two petty officers to complete
81 training weeks per year. Some of these trainings are road shows and require two people to
travel. In addition to the regular work schedule, the chief s must be duty IS and OOD qualified. The

In journalist Malcolm Gladwell s New Yorker article Offensive Play, he conveys his idea that
football and dogfighting are not all that different. He uses testimonies from former players and
doctors, as well as statistics and background information about football and dogfighting to
support his argument. He begins his argument by setting the scene of former NFL player Kyle
Turley at a bar with his wife. He only had a beer and then he began to feel light headed. Next
thing he knows, he is lying on the floor with people standing over him. He throws up profusely
and is taken to the emergency room for treatment. This incident, however, was not the first time
Turley had experienced some of these symptoms. In the year leading up to the incident, Turley
would constantly experience headaches and nausea and had severe vertigo for an entire month.
Clearly, something was seriously wrong with Turley (Gladwell 50). Turley was an offensive
lineman in the NFL for nine years until he retired in 2007. During his time in the NFL, he had
heard stories about former players who killed themselves under very odd circumstances.
Gladwell then proceeds to state, There were men with aching knees and backs and hands from
all of those years of football. But their real problem was with their heads, the one part of the
body that got hit over and over again (Gladwell 52). Turley had many instances where he would
hit someone and his eyes would go crossed and start seeing spots. He was even knocked
unconscious during a game and does not remember much of what happened. He recalls having
no sense of time and was unaware of his actions and surroundings. He was cleared to play the

Overall for this change project, we have learned that the population of frogs has been decreasing
all over the world. There are many factors that decrease their population like agriculture, invasive
species, and the population of humans. Specifically, in California, only 40% of the historical
sites in the Northwest area have Foothill Yellow Legged Frogs, and this has the highest
percentage out of all of California. These frogs are indicators for the environment, meaning they
can determine if the area around them has changed dramatically due to their permeable skin. For

The objective of this research is to gain knowledge and disseminate information in regards to the
cultural practices in honey bee husbandry and the management of small hive beetles. The small
hive beetle is known to be an occasional pest species to African honey bees, but they are more of a
threat to European honeybees. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential effects of
commercial pollen dough substitutes on the survivability and reproductive success of the small
hive beetle. This new information will aid beekeepers through the process of selecting diets that are
impactful in stopping the spread of SHB in honey beecolonies.
The small hive beetles originated from infested colonies, and this experiment requires that they be
maintained. The control variable was unfed adult small hive beetles and beetles that were only fed
on water. The independent variables are Dadant Artificial Pollen 23, Dadant Brood Builder, and
Protein Patties. Measurements of the amount of time that the small hive beetles are able to survive
in each pollen dough substitute, and how successful the beetles are at reproducing (this is done by

being blood related to someone does not necessarily make you family. In addition, I will be
analyzing the family situation of my friend Lauren Lynch. Through participant observation and
an interview, I was able to uncover some useful details about her family that allowed me to
analyze them through a sociological lens. Part One: Functionalism in All of our Kin Black
families living in The Flats need a steady source of cooperative support to survive. They share
with one another because of the urgency of their needs. Alliances between individuals are
created around the clock as kin and friends exchange and give and obligate one another. They

Hawaiian mythology is both animistic and polytheistic. Animism is the religious belief that
objects, places and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence and polytheism is the belief of
multiple deities in one religion (Hawaiian Folk Tales). Hawaiian religion also believes that passed
away souls exist as non human beings like animals and abiotic objects (Hawaiian Folk Tales). The

The movie, Rampart, which is set in Los Angeles in 1999 and focused on the life of 24 year
veteran Officer Dave Brown of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as a part of the
Rampart division. He is a man of his own breed who follows his own code of justice disregarding
the solid line that stands between right and wrong. Brown is prone to using violence and
intimidation to maintain his own idea that he is the unnoticed, underappreciated vigilante for the
public. Although he has a hero complex, he does not seem to form intimate emotional
connections, even though he was married to two women (both of which are sisters) and has a
daughter by each woman. Neither of the women seemed to feel any emotional connection to
Brown seeing as they all live together for the sake of the children, regardless of the obvious fact
that his children do not seem to have a strong bond with him either. Years earlier Brown was
involved in the death of a suspected serial rapist, which put the policedepartment under stress as

Already I can tell that this book is more difficult than most other novels I have read. It seems as
though Roth is in favor of using long sentences and complex vocabulary. I sometimes had to
reread sentences a few times because there was difficult vocabulary I needed to look up and the
sentences were long. I needed to read each sentence piece by piece to make sure I could understand
what the author wanted to convey to the reader. Although the text seemed overwhelming when I
read the first few pages; once I began reading sentences in increments I could more easily
understand the text.

has been made clear that Coleman Silk is only passing as a Jewish American. Coleman s secret

inferior so he began living his life as a white man. It is terribly ironic that Coleman Silk became

After lengthy interrogations, during which Crowe was misled into thinking there was
substantial physical evidence of his guilt, he concluded that he was a killer: I m not sure how I
did it. All I know is I did it (Drizin Colgan, 2004, p. 141). Eventually, he was convinced that he
had a split personality that bad Michael acted out of jealous rage while good Michael blocked the

Inspired by tales of innocents wrongfully convicted, recent research has focused on three sets of

innocent suspects at risk to confess, and (c) how accurate are police, juries, and others at judging

Andrew Reid was born in the year 1787. He was a Congregational minister and he was a non
conformist, which meant he was not part of the Church of England. He was very hardworking
and committed. He started 7 charities which meant he was a very generous man. His farther was
a watch maker therefore he came from a lower middle class tradesman family. His first Asylum he
opened was in Dalston, Hackney. He attended the site everyday and got royal patronage which
helped him to raise funds. This shows that he is a very dedicated and caring person.

So as the New Poor Law states people were extremely cruel and discriminated the undeserving
poor they said it was god who decided if you were poor or not even though the church did try to
help. For example the hymn all things bright and beautiful, includes the lines The rich man at his
castle, the poor man at his gate, God made them high or lowly, and ordered their estate . However
most people felt pity on the deserving poor an example of this was rich women that used to make
themselves look generous, in front of their rich women friends, these were the types of people that
Andrew Reid was particularly interested in and that was because they were the people that donated
the most money.
Andrew Reid put together many Asylum meetings where he would do speeches to rich people
and make them feel for the poor. An example of his speeches was one he done on the 3rd of July,
1927 at the London Tavern Let it be remembered that the case is for the infant orphan for which
charity has a yet done nothing; yet this case embraces a period of life in which innocence,
helplessness and misery are strangely commingled and most touchingly call for our aid . This
speech was truly inspirational to many people and was used just before the people choose who
they wanted to vote for using the voting system (explained in paragraph 6). Also he was respected
