Legacy effects of salt and P remained and continued to stimulate aboveground marsh growth. The enhanced marsh growth was likely caused by rapid recycling of nutrients stored in sawgrass litter. Net ecosystem metabolism is used a proxy for ecosystem balance and suggests that saltwater intrusion in Florida Everglades can disrupt carbon cycling. Everglades wetland will be more vulnerable to sea-level rise due to accelerated soil carbon loss.

The Shetland Court Outfall Restoration project was substantially completed on September 7, 2018. The primary goals of this project were to address public safety concerns, stabilize an eroded channel by using natural stream design techniques, promote the growth of native vegetation, and improve water quality. The natural channel design techniques used, such as a reinforced bed mix riffle sections, step pools and rock steps, reduce the flow velocity, provide stability, and enhance water quality along the streams leading to the Chesapeake Bay. The disturbed areas of the site were restored with native shrubs, plants and trees.
2018 GIS in Conservation: The Effect of Channel Migration on Riparian Vegetat...GIS in the Rockies
Historically, the South Platte River in Colorado has experienced substantial inter-annual flow variability, but due to water management over the last century, there has been a parallel rise in ground and surface water level consistency. This is problematic for the dominant riparian vegetation of the region, the disturbance-dependent cottonwood, which relies on frequent flood events to clear vegetation to allow for the growth of new trees along the riverbank. Through this research, we attempt to understand the patterns and dynamics of the South Platte River’s riparian vegetation to aid resource management. This research focuses on channel migration dynamics and how these impact adjacent riparian vegetation. To study this, we digitized riparian vegetation using orthophotos at roughly decade increments for a 30 km section of the South Platte in Weld and Morgan counties. We measured changes to riparian vegetation composition and channel locations. Preliminary results show that from 1999 to 2006, a period of overall low flow and drought conditions, this section of river experienced a narrowing of the active channel by 11%. This narrowing was accompanied by an expansion of forest, riparian shrub, and herbaceous vegetation. From 2006 to 2015, a period of time that included high flows and two major flood events, we observed channel expansion of 24%. This was accompanied by decreases in forests, riparian shrubs, and herbaceous cover.
Changes in Land use and land Cover of Powai Lake and its surroundings are highlighted here. The study has been carried out with the help of Remote Sensing and GIS techniques.

Three sources of water are generally cited for to support continued population growth in the West: new diversions from rivers, transfers from agriculture to cities, or reduced use through conservation. Municipal conservation is the cheapest of the three, and often has the least impact on Western rivers.
This presentation describes the potential for conservation to reduce future demands, provide examples of implementation (including rate structures, water loss reduction, and indoor and outdoor best practice programs), and discuss Colorado state-level resources available to develop and implement conservation plans. Important concerns and issues regarding water conservation will also be addressed, including cost to the consumer, water quality, and impacts to return flows.

Over the last decade, demand for spring management has increased as traditional spring sources have started drying up or becoming contaminated. In response, communities, NGOs and state agencies began dedicated spring protection programmes. In the Himalayas, the State of Sikkim and organizations such as Central Himalayan Action and Research Group (CHIRAG) and People Science Institute (PSI) started identifying and protecting spring recharge areas around 2007. The difference between these programmes and many other previous efforts is that they went beyond supply-side improvements to focus on the use of hydrogeology to map springsheds for targeted interventions.
The Advanced Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (ACWADAM), a research and capacity-building organization comprised of hydrogeologists and other experts began lending their expertise and building capacity of stakeholders. ACWADAM provides technical support, training and materials in hydrogeology to all network partners as well as others in India and the region. Similar programmes began independently in most of the mountain regions of India. Arghyam, a funding organization that was supporting many of these programmes, noticed that these disparate initiatives shared commonalities despite geographic diversity. They thus organized and funded a meeting of these various organizations in June 2014, and the Springs Initiative was born.
The springs initiative aims to tackle the current water crisis and to ensure safe and sustainable access to water for all, by promoting responsible and appropriate management of aquifers, springsheds, and watersheds and conserving ecosystems in partnership with communities, governments and other stakeholders.
This presentation has been developed as a part of the springs initiative to promote an understanding of springs and their role in mountainous areas.

In 2014, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) completed a yearlong baseline water quality study of 35 stream sites in the watershed. Based on the information they collected, nearly 233 miles of stream (80%) in the watershed will likely be included on the draft 2016 303d List of Impaired Waterbodies.
