The Status Of The World s Women
The status of the world s women is not only a matter of morality and justice. It is also a political,
economic, and social imperative. The evidence is irrefutable: when women are free to develop their
talents and contribute fully to their societies, everyone benefits.
Hillary Clinton, 5/12/2010
Women are a large portion of the populace, almost 60% possess professional degrees, make up
47% of the workforce and represent 53% of voters. Despite the fact that they have broken every
barrier many times over, women occupy only 18% of the top management positions across the
world. While the representation of women in noteworthy positions of political and business sectors
has enhanced in some cases, (20 states have female Senators) the leadership pool is still male
dominated. The U.S. places 80th in the world when it comes to female representation in
authoritative positions, just ahead of countries that are openly criticized for their treatment of
women, like Iraq and Afghanistan. As of 2014, only 4.2% of CEO positions and under 17% of
board seats are held by ladies among Fortune 500 organizations.
Evidence across the region has shown that having more women in senior authority promotes
brilliance in areas of performance. Research demonstrates that organizations with more women in
power within governing bodies are more gainful and have higher profits for value. Having more
women with political authority brings about better choice and strategy making. Well taught women

A Letter to Jessica
Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job
is exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put
me into a lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with
adolescent children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments
and changes that occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often
can lead them into great trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you
and seek your guidance and opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I
am deeply worried and concerned that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to
the differences that I have personally noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the
last few months. I have been observing him, and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or
boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is about his future that may be jeopardized and
his education as well in the event that the boy is involved in drug abuse. I am certain that you as
a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and pain that a parent experiences and
faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her future. As the old English adage
says, blood is thicker than water; I have every reason to get worried. Joel has found new friends in
the neighborhoods that are a little older than him

The Period Of The Roman Empire
During the eighth century, Europeans were experiencing one of the most peaceful periods in
history since the fall of the Roman Empire. Starting around the ninth century Europe, however, this
would begin to change. The vikings were feared marauders that preyed upon all manner of coastal
settlements. Paying no heed to the religious value placed upon certain sites, such as monasteries, by
the local inhabitants, they at times ransacked and pillaged indiscriminately, taking valuable goods
with them as their plunder. Despite an apparent disregard for the sanctity of religious sites, their
own religion played an important and fundamental role in the lives of vikings and their society.
The period of rapid viking expansion, during which viking longboats would sail along the shores
of Europe, raiding and conquering sea side towns, began in the late eighth century. In the year
789, viking warriors began pillaging towns and monasteries, stealing valuable goods and
kidnapping villagers to sell as slaves. These raids began as a complete surprise to their victims.
Under the rule of the Charlemagne, King of the Franks and future emperor of the Holy Roman
Empire, Europe was experiencing the greatest period of peace since the pax romana and the fall of
the Roman Empire. As such, the inhabitants of the coastal hamlets that the Scandinavians
victimised were unprepared for the sudden wave of attacks. Furthermore, the vikings did not respect
the Christian tradition of sparing monasteries and

A Narrative Of Me And You Written By Niccolo Ammaniti s...
A narrative bears many similarities to a snowflake. All snowflakes are composed of exactly the
same material, but when scrutinized, no two are the same. The same can be said about two
narratives which may contain the same story but the meaning can change when recounted by
different narrators. The difference in narratives can be observed in the novel and film adaptation of
Me and You written by NiccolГІ Ammaniti s and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. All stories
contain a mixture of constituent and supplementary events. The overall constituent events that must
be present in Me and You are that Lorenzomust first lie about leaving for a week long ski trip, then
he must hide in a cellar, after which Olivia rest with her brother until the week ends. Both Ammaniti
and Bertolucci insert supplementary events that although do not move the story forward or directly
affect the constituent events, add meaning to their perspective of the story. The supplementary
event which Ammaniti attaches to his narrativeoccurs when he writes the scene about Lorenzo and
his mother were stuck in a traffic jam on the Corso Vittorio. On the other hand, Bertolucci
incorporates the scene where Oliva invites a friend to the cellar to further strengthen his vision for
his narrative. Meanwhile Ammaniti crafts his narrative to present the reader with Italys
imperfections and perfections, Bertolucci limits the audience s knowledge of the Italy outside of
Lorenzo s bunker to bring us to a closer meaning of

Hawaiian Beaches
Hawaii State is the youngest of the fifty states of US, and is the only American state made up
exclusively of islands. It is mainly of an archipelago in the southeast of Japan, southwest of the
continental US, and northeast of Australia. Its warm tropical climate, natural beauty, inviting
waves, waters and volcanoes that are still active make it a well liked destination for surfers,
tourists, volcanologists and biologists. Owing to its central Pacific locality, Hawaii has lots of Asian
and North American influences besides its own pulsating native background. Hawaii boasts of
more than a million permanent inhabitants along with U.S. military personnel and numerous
visitors. It is located on the island of Oahu and its capital is Honolulu. Generally, Hawaii enjoys a
series of exotic destination islands such as Honolulu, Waipahu, Koloa, Captain Cook, Hana, Kapaa,

Analysis Of Rajeev Ravisankar s Sweatshop Oppression
In his opinion essay, Sweatshop Oppression, published in the student newspaper, The Lantern, at
Ohio State University, writer Rajeev Ravisankar uses his article as a platform to raise awareness
about the deplorable conditions in sweatshops. Ravisankar awakens his readers from their
slumber and brings to light the fact that they are partly responsible for the problem. His first goal
in the essay is to designate college students as conscious consumers who look to purchase goods at
the lowest prices. Then he makes the connection between this type of low cost consumerism and
the high human cost that workers are forced to pay in sweatshops. His second goal is to place the
real burden of responsibilitydirectly with the companies that perpetuate this system of exploitation.
Finally, he proposes what can be done about it. By establishing a relationship that includes himself
in the audience, working to assign responsibility to the reader, and keeping them emotionally
invested, Ravisankar makes a powerful argument that eventually prompts his studentreader to take
responsibility for their actions and make a change. For Ravisankar s argument to be effective, he
makes a connection with the readers. He accomplishes this by including himself in the audience
and, also, by earning their trust. This style of writing uses us and we in the dialog which
establishes himself as being part of the conversation. To make the trust connection with his readers,
he first clarifies how their low cost consumerism is partly responsible for the problem, but he does
so in an empathetic way. He sees their position as, being the poor college students that we all are,
which is an understandable way of including himself while consciously giving the students a
personal stake in the argument and assigning them responsibility. In this way, the writer
immediately connects with his audience and draws them in by being sympathetic to their needs.
After he gains their trust, he works toward gaining sympathy for the worker who are forced to pay
the price for the students irresponsible but unintentional choices. During this discussion of the
problem, Ravisankar writes as if he is assuming that the students are unaware of how much their

Similarities And Weaknesses Of The Civil War
The Civil War The North and South had many different weaknesses and strengths at the beginning
of the Civil War in 1861. This essay will compare the political, economic, social and military
strengths and weaknesses of the North and South at the beginning of the Civil War. There were
many reasons for the War of the States to be fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation
of states, the Constitution, and the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths
and weaknesses. The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve
their way of life. They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While the
North was just fighting to continue the Union, and were not as inspired. Furthermore the North had
the advantage of President Lincoln being from the North, when the South did not. The South had
less states in its Confederacy with only a mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen
states in their Union. Lincoln believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution
and he would declare war against the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American
history, Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial, ergo the Union
could arrest citizens who might have been southern sympathizers. The North and South had many
economic strengths and weaknesses. The South had many plantations of rice, cotton, tobacco and
other cash crops, which produced

Evolution Of Surgeons
Medical innovation led to surgery and the profession it has become. Surgical procedures have taken
place since the 18th century ( Surgeons 597). Among these were limb amputations and tumor
resections. Because anesthetic was not developed until the 19th century, patients were either tied to
a table, drank large amounts of alcohol and took opium to mask the immense pain ( Surgeons 597).
During the year of 1846 surgerywas modernized ( Surgeons 597). With anesthesia, the number of
surgical opportunities increased rapidly. In 1867, Joseph Lister developed antiseptic after gaining
knowledge from Louis Pasteur s studies on bacteria ( Surgeons 597). By the 20th century, the
profession had to split into specialties because of its growth ( Surgeons 597). The American Board
of Medical Specialists was also created during this time to certify up and coming surgeons after
their residency ( Surgeons 597). The end of the century brought advancements with imaging such as

Attending school facilitates a process of maturing because students brings life experiences that have
exposed them to multiple perspectives and ideas that differ from the values, traditions or beliefs of
others. At times these diverse beliefs and outlooks may cause conflicts among classmates, co
workers, bosses, and perhaps school administrators. Our upbringing also affects the way we deal
with the challenges of working and interacting with others on a daily basis not just in school, but
also in other settings. My particular individual situation involved unique circumstances and resulted
in outcomes that included confusion, contradiction, and frustration. I have worked with students

errors; thus, my careful approach attempts to ensure that we will not have to redo the project. I
also like to have fun at work, whether joking around, making short conversation, or singing
along with my co workers to the store s radio. My manager, on the other hand, likes things done
in the fastest possible way, risking potential mistakes that come with rushing. He prefers
working quietly, not talking with one another or singing to make the time go quickly. We agree
that our displays should look their best, that everything should be organized so cleaning up is
easier for us, and that the shopping experience should be easy and pleasant for customers. We
compromise while working together so we can get the best out of each other as individuals and
as a team. For example, the manager sometimes lets us listen to music, but he asks that individual
employees keep to themselves and get everything done in a timely manner. If a co worker and I

A Report On The Global Crisis
On December 15th, 2014, Uber implemented price surging, that charged its users a minimum
$100 (USD $85) to escape an armed hostage crisis in downtown Sydney. The intro of quadrupled
price caused overwhelming criticism by both riders and drivers on social media and traditional
media. Uber responded quickly to those criticism, but their response was not accepted. The
company at first responded to media by defending its move as necessary to encourage more
drivers to pick up passengers when demand is high. It posted on Twitter: After Uber s first
response, lots of people posted complaints on social media and contacted media outlet expressing
their anger. Uber drivers and riders were absolutely not satisfied with the company s response. A
driver complained to Mashable that he understood the way the business worked higher the
demand, higher the charge but four times at $100 minimum was ridiculous. Then after about an
hour, Uber shifted into reverse tone, began refunding rides to Sydney customers and offering
free rides. The headlines and descriptions from different media outlets are various. For example,
Financial Times wrote Uber drivers into Sydney hostage controversy , which was relatively
impartial and mild. Another headline from Quartz wrote Uber offers free rides to make up for its
idiotic response to Sydney s hostage crisis , the tone of which was a little bit more intense. Uber
spokesperson Katie Curran responded that We are all concerned with the events

Analysis Of Sir Luke Fildes The Doctor
Sir Luke Fildes, a renowned painter of the late Victorian age, completed an oil painting titled The
Doctor, in 18871. It captures in a glimpse the socio historical milieu which shaped the identity of
the General Practitioner in Victorian England since the 1840s. The painting shows a doctor
attending the sickbed of a poor child. Though a candle is burning still, a natural light also comes in,
suggesting that it is now dawn, and the child has survived the night. The doctors figure represents a
calm and soothing heroism at the face of death. He has spent, it seems, a sleepless night, nursing the
sick child.
The painting not only depicts a positive and humanitarian image of the Victorian General
Practitioner, but also conforms to the close

had started off as two separate architects, but in 1880 they joined forces and created their own

apprentices. Frank was finally getting back on his feet again.
Frank Lloyd Wright started putting pieces of his life together at this point. He was a man that
knew exactly what he wanted, and how to get to that goal. In 1889, Frank Lloyd Wright married
Catherine Lee Tobin (Rubin, 1994). Tobin and Wright met while he was working for Adler and

all of the supplies he needed. Shortly after negotiating the contract, he bought a lot in Oak Park,
Illinois, where he built his first house. His house reflected the subtleness of prairie style. His
house consisted of east coast shingles, roof gable, and geometric shapes. In this house he raised
six children; John Lloyd Wright, Lloyd Wright, Catherine Baxter, Svetlana Milanoff, Iovanna

rising, so he decided to accept private residential commission in Oak Park. When Sullivan found
out in 1893, he charged him for breaking the contract. Wright s first commission was William H.

Advantages Of Haar Transform
INTRODUCTION Some people suffer severe motor impairments cannot express their thoughts as
healthy for assistance of patients and can be controlled by user alone. It uses EEG signals as
input and produces output signals in the form of inverse DWT. Communication system between
human brain and computer is called BCI. This enables generation of control signals from brain
signals, such as sensory motor rhythms and evoked potentials, therefore persons, because they are
not capable of talking or moving. But still they are conscious and capable of performing mental
tasks equivalent to healthy individual, using brain signals. The communication system for person
with severe disabilities helps him to express thoughts for translating their actions into activity
using BCI. The advantage of the proposed work is, there is no need of any caretakers, it
constitutes a good communication option for people with severe motor disabilities. The recording
of electrical activity of brain is called as Electroencephalogram (EEG). The user thoughts are
expressed in form of speech using speech synthesizer. People who are paralyzed or have... Show

Installing Bamboo Flooring Essay
Usually there are no instructions in the box on installing bamboo flooring, but it is done just like
ordinary hardwood flooring. The proper floor preparation is essential before any installation. It is
important that all sub flooring be flat with a tolerance of no more than one half inch over a twelve
foot span. If the sub floor is made of wood, staples are better to use than flooringcleats. Staples
hold better and do not squeak when stepped upon. If you decide to use a glue down installation,
use the adhesive that is specified by the manufacturer. Be sure to avoid water based adhesives at all
costs.

The oil urethane wood finish supplies a highly durable coating that allows the beauty of the
wood to shine through while minimizing discoloration due to age. A lambs wool applicator is
required for even coating, and one gallon can cover over 600 square feet. The water based
urethane finish can be used only on previously sealed surfaces. The crystal clear coating shows
off the natural wood beauty, and it dries very fast. No mixing is required, and it is very economical
to use. One gallon will cover up to 1000 square feet.
5
Polyurethane hardwood floor finishes are blends of synthetic resins that protect the surface of
wood. They are moisture resistant and available in high gloss and semi gloss as well as satin and
matte. The finish is recommended for kitchens where splashing water may be a problem. The
polyurethane finish is the most common and it turns a lovely shade of amber as it ages. Do not
shake the polyurethane container because air bubbles will appear in the final finish. Instead, stir
the container to avoid any mishaps. The coating should be applied with a brush or roller going with
the grain to avoid marking the finish.

The types of hardwood floor finishes determine the kind of maintenance you must use to keep the
floor new looking. Most of the time all you have to do is sweep the floor with a broom or dust

Advanced Level Of Technology And The Human Brain
Essay 1 Assignment With todays advanced level of technology, we contemplate and entertain the
thought of computers actually becoming intelligent through artificial intelligence and eventually
out perform the human brain. The problem is not just a struggle between the human brain and the
computer processing unit of a machine, but whether or not human engineering and programing is
as good or better than mother nature and evolution is or will ever be. The race to develop artificial
intelligencethat is capable cognitive awareness ultimately turns into a battle between the
evolutionary process of nature and the accelerated progress of human science. However, science
and nature have vastly different ways in how they process information. Nature has produced
intelligence of the brainand awareness in one s self through evolution. Science is a product of the
brain and developed through the progression of human intellect . Any outside influence with the
world and stimulus in it is absorbed by the brain and interpreted before the information is
transformed into ideas and assembled into knowledge. As Alex Knapp describes the brain as a
parallel processing network, that can actively change through influences by will or environment. (3)
The rapid development of highly sophisticated machines and understanding of science in our
lifetime has been nothing short of spectacular human innovation. With the great successes of the
past a great number of individuals believe that computers

The Conflict Between India And Pakistan
The conflict in Kashmir appears to most as a bilateral territorial conflict between India and
Pakistan. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British
India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic
Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the
Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of
Pakistan. The demand for a separate independent state for Muslims living in British India was
founded on the apprehension that they shall be prejudiced against in the Hindu majority state of
India. As per the said Two Nation theory, all such states and provinces where the majority of the
population was Muslim were to become a part of Pakistan after the British withdrew from India, and
the new nation state of Pakistan was created. The independence and the accompanying partition of
Indiawere affected through the Indian Independence Act 1947 (hereinafter the Act ). As per the
provisions of the Act, the territories of the British India were to be divided into India and the new
State of Pakistan. The division of the territories was in accordance with religious demography of the
constituent states. At that time, there were 562 Princely States in the British India, which were
nominally sovereign monarchies under a local or regional ruler in a subsidiary alliance with the
British Crown. These Princely

Throughout I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud William Wordsworth shows his relationship with
nature through his choice of diction, fantastic descriptions, and shifting mood of his poem.
There are also many words and phrases that Wordsworth included into his poem that shows how
he feels about nature. These phrases are well written, extremely descriptive, and show how
Wordsworth is influenced by the wild: I wandered lonely as a cloud , When all at once I saw a
crowd, a host, of golden daffodils , Continuous as the stars that shine and twinkle on the milky
way, they stretched in never ending line along the margin of a bay: ten thousand saw I at a
glance, tossing their heads in sprightly dance , The waves beside them danced; but they out did
the sparkling waves in glee , I gazed and gazed but little thought what wealth the show to me had
brought , and For oft, when on my couch I lie in vacant or in pensive mood, they flash upon that
inward eye [...] and then my heart with pleasure fills, and dances with the daffodils. Another
phrase, which indicates that the flowers were so beautiful that no true poet could be sad in their
presence, also builds upon Wordsworth s relationship with nature. These particular lines in I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud show how Wordsworth s mood shifts from somber and lonely to
joyous and content. The lines also show how the gorgeousness of nature sticks with

Whey Protein Research Paper
In the world of protein you will find that there are 4 primary types available with each having its
own unique set of benefits and problems. Below, I am going to discuss the different types and how
they should and shouldn t be used.
Whey Protein
Whey protein is by and large the most popular and arguably the best type of protein and/or
supplement on the market today. Often called the gold standard of protein, whey is a total protein
meaning it contains all of the necessary amino acids due to its Branched chain amino acids structure
(BCAA s). BCAA s are naturally occurring molecules (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that the body
uses to build proteins. The term branched chain refers to the molecular structure of these particular

Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular supply of amino
acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic protein, even more than whey. The
rationale behind this is really because casein forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach,
and so releases a steady supply of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain
anabolic.
Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed will stop
catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein across the day, just never
after a workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up fast into the bloodstream, making
casein a particularly bad choice. Casein protein can be taken pre workout as well, but this would
not be the best use. A better pre workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and
whey protein, thus permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout.
Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not only make
your shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release formula, effective straight
away and sustaining for hours to come. Also, mixing your casein with milk before bed will ensure
you stay anti catabolic across the

To compare The Charge of the Light Brigade with The Destruction of
Sennacherib
In this essay we are going to be comparing two war poems. They are
The Charge of the Light Brigade by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 1892) and The Destruction of
Sennacherib by Lord Byron (1788 1824).
The Charge of the Light Brigade is set in the Crimean war. It is about the British cavalry getting
the wrong orders and going straight at the enemy s cannons. The Destruction of Sennacherib is a
biblical story. The story tells us about a whole army being wiped out really quickly as they slept
by the Angel of Death .
The first poem we are going to look at is The Charge of the Light

Only once in the poem does Tennyson mention that a mistake has been made by saying
not though the soldier knew. Someone had blundered . As the soldiers rode through the valley of
death they were surrounded by the Russian cannons as the poem says Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them. This tells us that the Russians had the
British cavalry surrounded with cannons and were going to fire them as quickly as they could so
they could kill as many soldiers as they could before they got to the Russian front line. At the end of
the poem, in the last verse Tennyson wrote Honour the charge they made,
Honour the light brigade, Noble six hundred . This tells us that in some way Tennyson wanted
people to look at the Light Brigade as heroes. Now we are going to look at the second war poem
The destruction of
Sennacherib by Lord Byron (1788 1824). This poem is a biblical story.
The battle took place in Mesopotamia (roughly where Iraq is now). The poem has rhyming
couplets all the way through in the pattern AA BB. In the first verse there are two similes which
try to emphasise the threat of the invading army. When the Assyrian army got wiped out by the
Angel of Death (here Lord Byron uses personification), it says that the army was wiped out very
quickly. In the poem, it says And breathed in the face of the foe as he pass d . This suggests to us
that the Assyrian army was wiped out as quickly as

For some people these therapies work their best together and for others just one does the job. The
first therapy is exposure therapy, exposure therapy asks patients to confront, in a safe way, the very
situations, objects, people and memories they have attached to the trauma (Foa 2001) This therapy
helps the patient confront their fears in a healthy way, to try to slay the beast and get on with their
lives. The second therapy is anxiety management. Anxiety management is five techniques taught to
people that help cope with the anxiety experienced from PTSD. The five techniques are, breathing
training, relaxation, assertiveness training, positive thinking and self talk [and] thought stopping.
These techniques help people calm down enough to cope with their fears slowly, and is usually is
used with the exposure therapy process. The third therapy is cognitive therapy. Cognitive therapy is
positive thinking and helps you understand how your thoughts affect your feelings. (Foa 2001) By
using these four steps the therapy helps achieve positive feelings and thoughts. Step one, become
more aware of distressing thoughts. Step two, pay attention to connections between your thoughts,
feelings and behaviors. Step three, challenge (talk back to) your negative thoughts. Last but not
least step four, substitute positive thoughts for negative ones. (Foa, 2001) Psychotherapy is a

government can do it. It also defines government structures proposing different bodies and agencies
an example being the three branches (legislature, executive, judiciary). The constitution is an
important document specifically to countries with federal systems. A federal system is one where
the states get their authority from the people instead of relying on national government. (Geer et al.

national governments from having too much power, one of the main reasons a federal system

of Pi can be summarized in three lines: life is a story, you can choose your story, and a story with
God is a better story. In his novel, Martel uses the concepts of religion and fiction in a way that is

religions contain stories and a reason for our existence, and that what makes this good is the
reassurances it provides in our lives. Religions make life meaningful and gives us purpose and
Martel goes on to describe a life without them as a dry, yeast less factuality (22).

Descriptive Essay On Elkton
Elkton, Kentucky is a tiny, rural town that juts off of Highway 68. The heart of the town is the
former courthouse. Its steeple shoots proudly into the sky, displaying a clock of dubious
accuracy. Old, brick storefronts form a square around the courthouse, broken only by four streets
extending from the square. When I was young, riding in the backseat, I knew every detail of those
streets. There was a movie rental store, with posters I always strained to read; a tiny library whose
young adult section I had thoroughly explored; and a thrift store where I bought fifty cent stuffed
animals. Elkton was small, but I never thought I would need anything more. In my young mind, it
was the only townthat existed. Elkton was my world. I turned thirteen the week my family moved
out. With typical youthful energy, I was ecstatic. I never looked back to the little white house; I only
looked forward to the beige colored apartment that, I bragged, was only five minutes from the mall.

Football is a classic American pastime that has been thrilling spectators for decades. As with all
sports, rules are established in football to avoid potential dangers. One of the most serious risks
associated with football is concussions. A concussion is a hit induced injury that causes any sort
of malfunction in the brain. When the brain does not function properly, a person is exposed to a
mental degradation that can result in a loss of self being and independence. Concussions are
becoming the main suspect for mental challenges in football players as the result of an overlooked

In addition, Purdue University studied high school football players and noted that one team
member was hit with an impact of over two hundred and eighty times the force of gravity
(Vendantam). Each of these factors working either independently or creatively can result in a
concussion which in turn can jeopardize the mental stability of its victim. Next, a major effect of
concussions is impulsive or irregular behavior which can be defined by aggression, memory
loss, and suicide. Irritability is an outcome that not only negatively affects the individual, but
those around them as well. For example, Michael (fictitious name) was hit during a high school
football game in his freshman year and instantly experienced many concussion symptoms,
including a contentious temper; he and his family continue to suffer the consequences of his
concussion (Kluger 46). Boston University also conducted a study emphasizing the result of
aggression due to concussive blows (Lowry 9). Memory loss is another detrimental post
concussive effect and it can be more easily identified by medical conditions such as dementia
and Alzheimer s disease. For instance, the NFL held a study in September of 2009 and

Drug Prohibition
Legalizing drugs for better society
Drugs prohibition caused more harm than the drug itself. There are many pieces of evidence to
bear directly to the effect of prohibition in countries like Colombia or Mexico, where is the drug
prohibition enforcement mean an increase in violence and corruption. Indeed, drug prohibition does
not reduce drug consumption, and if there are any benefits of prohibition laws then the cost

Drugs prohibition is the major cause of violence because it promotes to create a black market for
drugs. The side effects of the black market outweigh the benefit of prohibition policies, the main
impact within the black market is increasing in violence, because consumers and sellers cannot

most of the violence associated with illegal drug dealing is caused by its illegality. In the legal

As you know, your agency grants Hazardous Material permits for $75, or $500 annually. We want
to be good neighbors and allow our friends to the north access to our highways. I perfectly
understand that. Looking through your recent Hazardous Material Reports there have been no
accidents involving spillage of nuclear materials in our state. We don t want to add unnecessary
financial burden to our neighbors ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were 3,719 accidents involving semi trucks. What if one of those trucks carrying liquid
radioactive waste was involved in one of those accidents? What if the container ruptured? What if
the driver who is trained in what to do was incapacitated? In 2011 according to state agency
statistics, state police dispatchers told callers about 40 times a day it had no troopers to
respond: to accidents, dangerous driver reports, to crimes. Eastern Oregon has a lot of miles to
cover. My best friend s dad is a deputy in Morrow County and he alone is responsible for
hundreds of miles of roads on his shifts. I called a few counties in Eastern Oregon and the
deputies all do go through annual training on what to do in the event of a nuclear emergency, but
what if they are unavailable? Or what if they are a few hundred miles away and it takes them
over an hour to get there? What happens then? The passersby s first on the scene won t know the
proper procedure for dealing with that radioactive waste. They might not see the nuclear waste
placard, or even know what it means. Is it safe for them to get close to the truck and help the
driver? Is it even safe for cars to drive on the highway around the accident? These are questions I
don t know the answer to. But I hope you know these answers before granting permits for people to
transport liquid nuclear waste though our state.
Is the peace of mind for our state worth $62.58?

The Theme Of Water In Hamlet By William Shakespeare
Water, in it s most simple form, is an element with multiple states and properties that make it
essential or life. These properties and propensities for change also allow water to be an element full
of uncertainty and shrouded in enigmas. In large quantities, water creates the deep mysteries of the
sea, fast flowing rivers, murky ponds, and many natural phenomenons. In the play Hamlet,
Shakespeare uses the motif of water to symbolize madness and the unknownin the characters
Hamlet and Ophelia.
Shakespeare presents water imagery relating to Hamlet s character in the very first act of the play,
both explicitly and implicitly. The atmosphere of the platform, before the appearance of the ghost, is
quiet and calm, almost too calm in the way that the world is before a heavy rainstorm, an
example of Shakespeare s use of implied and explicit examples of loud auditory water imagery,
suggesting that Hamlet s madness was spurred by a cacophony of voices and opinions that gave
conflicting judgements on how he should act. The mood of the guard s platform and the use of
erie, mysterious imagery to paint the picture of something ominous coming foreshadows Hamlet s
eventual descent into the murky depths of the sea of madness. In the lines : Without more motive,
into every brain that looks so many fathoms to the sea and hears it roar beneath. (I, iv, 77 81), the
roar of the sea is compared to the unanswered questions that encourage insanity, encountered by all
even without a push from a

Anabolic Steroids And Its Effects On The Body
A 16 year old high school junior was told by his coach that he needed to be stronger and faster if
he wanted to play more in his senior year. The young man was discouraged because he has been
trying for years to gain weight and muscle, but it just was not enough. He remembered a friend
telling him about what anabolic steroids had done for him and decided to try it, he would later
regret that decision. Anabolic steroids are drugs that reciprocate certain natural hormones in the
body such as the male hormone testosterone, which can improve endurance and performance and
stimulate muscle growth. Even though anabolic steroids may provide the body image and
results some adolescents want, they can be harmful to the adolescent body and mind, it s not fair
to those who gained weight and muscle naturally because they may have a smaller chance of
recognition, and there are safer alternatives that can assist in gaining weight and muscle.
According to Dr. Ali Mohamadi, a medical doctor from the FDA, states that, Various studies have
been conducted and generally reflect the findings of a Youth Risk and Behavior Surveillance
System study, which estimated that among U.S. high school students, 4.9% of males and 2.4% of
females have used anabolic steroids at least once in their lives. That s 375,000 young men and
175,000 young women. Anabolic steroids can pose a major threat to the adolescent body and
mind, especially if they are abused over a long period of time. The adolescent body

  • 2. The Status Of The World s Women The status of the world s women is not only a matter of morality and justice. It is also a political, economic, and social imperative. The evidence is irrefutable: when women are free to develop their talents and contribute fully to their societies, everyone benefits. Hillary Clinton, 5/12/2010 Women are a large portion of the populace, almost 60% possess professional degrees, make up 47% of the workforce and represent 53% of voters. Despite the fact that they have broken every barrier many times over, women occupy only 18% of the top management positions across the world. While the representation of women in noteworthy positions of political and business sectors has enhanced in some cases, (20 states have female Senators) the leadership pool is still male dominated. The U.S. places 80th in the world when it comes to female representation in authoritative positions, just ahead of countries that are openly criticized for their treatment of women, like Iraq and Afghanistan. As of 2014, only 4.2% of CEO positions and under 17% of board seats are held by ladies among Fortune 500 organizations. Evidence across the region has shown that having more women in senior authority promotes brilliance in areas of performance. Research demonstrates that organizations with more women in power within governing bodies are more gainful and have higher profits for value. Having more women with political authority brings about better choice and strategy making. Well taught women and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Letter to Jessica Dear Jessica: I hope and guess you are doing well in your new area and city, and your recent job is exciting as well. We are doing well here in Washington except for a few issues that have put me into a lot of worry and concern. I believe you do understand the challenges that come with adolescent children and the temptations that they face in life due to the different developments and changes that occur into them, as well as adventurous steps and ideologies that more often can lead them into great trouble and risk. My aim of writing you this letter is to share with you and seek your guidance and opinion about my son Joel, who turned 14 years two months ago. I am deeply worried and concerned that Joel might be involved or has started using drugs due to the differences that I have personally noted and observed in his behaviors and character in the last few months. I have been observing him, and I regret to tell you that this is not the child or boy that we knew him to be. My greatest worry is about his future that may be jeopardized and his education as well in the event that the boy is involved in drug abuse. I am certain that you as a parent you know and understand equally well the impact and pain that a parent experiences and faces seeing a loved one loose direction and ruining his or her future. As the old English adage says, blood is thicker than water; I have every reason to get worried. Joel has found new friends in the neighborhoods that are a little older than him ... • 4. The Period Of The Roman Empire During the eighth century, Europeans were experiencing one of the most peaceful periods in history since the fall of the Roman Empire. Starting around the ninth century Europe, however, this would begin to change. The vikings were feared marauders that preyed upon all manner of coastal settlements. Paying no heed to the religious value placed upon certain sites, such as monasteries, by the local inhabitants, they at times ransacked and pillaged indiscriminately, taking valuable goods with them as their plunder. Despite an apparent disregard for the sanctity of religious sites, their own religion played an important and fundamental role in the lives of vikings and their society. The period of rapid viking expansion, during which viking longboats would sail along the shores of Europe, raiding and conquering sea side towns, began in the late eighth century. In the year 789, viking warriors began pillaging towns and monasteries, stealing valuable goods and kidnapping villagers to sell as slaves. These raids began as a complete surprise to their victims. Under the rule of the Charlemagne, King of the Franks and future emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Europe was experiencing the greatest period of peace since the pax romana and the fall of the Roman Empire. As such, the inhabitants of the coastal hamlets that the Scandinavians victimised were unprepared for the sudden wave of attacks. Furthermore, the vikings did not respect the Christian tradition of sparing monasteries and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. A Narrative Of Me And You Written By Niccolo Ammaniti s... A narrative bears many similarities to a snowflake. All snowflakes are composed of exactly the same material, but when scrutinized, no two are the same. The same can be said about two narratives which may contain the same story but the meaning can change when recounted by different narrators. The difference in narratives can be observed in the novel and film adaptation of Me and You written by NiccolГІ Ammaniti s and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. All stories contain a mixture of constituent and supplementary events. The overall constituent events that must be present in Me and You are that Lorenzomust first lie about leaving for a week long ski trip, then he must hide in a cellar, after which Olivia rest with her brother until the week ends. Both Ammaniti and Bertolucci insert supplementary events that although do not move the story forward or directly affect the constituent events, add meaning to their perspective of the story. The supplementary event which Ammaniti attaches to his narrativeoccurs when he writes the scene about Lorenzo and his mother were stuck in a traffic jam on the Corso Vittorio. On the other hand, Bertolucci incorporates the scene where Oliva invites a friend to the cellar to further strengthen his vision for his narrative. Meanwhile Ammaniti crafts his narrative to present the reader with Italys imperfections and perfections, Bertolucci limits the audience s knowledge of the Italy outside of Lorenzo s bunker to bring us to a closer meaning of ... • 7. Analysis Of Rajeev Ravisankar s Sweatshop Oppression In his opinion essay, Sweatshop Oppression, published in the student newspaper, The Lantern, at Ohio State University, writer Rajeev Ravisankar uses his article as a platform to raise awareness about the deplorable conditions in sweatshops. Ravisankar awakens his readers from their slumber and brings to light the fact that they are partly responsible for the problem. His first goal in the essay is to designate college students as conscious consumers who look to purchase goods at the lowest prices. Then he makes the connection between this type of low cost consumerism and the high human cost that workers are forced to pay in sweatshops. His second goal is to place the real burden of responsibilitydirectly with the companies that perpetuate this system of exploitation. Finally, he proposes what can be done about it. By establishing a relationship that includes himself in the audience, working to assign responsibility to the reader, and keeping them emotionally invested, Ravisankar makes a powerful argument that eventually prompts his studentreader to take responsibility for their actions and make a change. For Ravisankar s argument to be effective, he makes a connection with the readers. He accomplishes this by including himself in the audience and, also, by earning their trust. This style of writing uses us and we in the dialog which establishes himself as being part of the conversation. To make the trust connection with his readers, he first clarifies how their low cost consumerism is partly responsible for the problem, but he does so in an empathetic way. He sees their position as, being the poor college students that we all are, which is an understandable way of including himself while consciously giving the students a personal stake in the argument and assigning them responsibility. In this way, the writer immediately connects with his audience and draws them in by being sympathetic to their needs. After he gains their trust, he works toward gaining sympathy for the worker who are forced to pay the price for the students irresponsible but unintentional choices. During this discussion of the problem, Ravisankar writes as if he is assuming that the students are unaware of how much their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will compare the political, economic, social and military strengths and weaknesses of the North and South at the beginning of the Civil War. There were many reasons for the War of the States to be fought including, but not limited to slavery, separation of states, the Constitution, and the way of life. The North and South had many political strengths and weaknesses. The South had an amazing fighting spirit because they were fighting to preserve their way of life. They were also defending their home against the northern invaders. While the North was just fighting to continue the Union, and were not as inspired. Furthermore the North had the advantage of President Lincoln being from the North, when the South did not. The South had less states in its Confederacy with only a mere fifteen states, versus the North who had nineteen states in their Union. Lincoln believed that secession was illegal under the law of the Constitution and he would declare war against the rebelling states if necessary. For the first time in American history, Lincoln suspended the writ of habeas corpus, the right of prisoners to a trial, ergo the Union could arrest citizens who might have been southern sympathizers. The roots of the conflict are often traced back to August 1947, when the erstwhile British India was partitioned into two new nation states India and Pakistan. The foundation of the Islamic Republic of Pakistanwas the Two Nation theory propounded by Mohammed Ali Jinnah s, the Leader of the All India Muslim League till August 1947, and then the first Governor General of Pakistan. Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular supply of amino acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic protein, even more than whey. The rationale behind this is really because casein forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach, and so releases a steady supply of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain anabolic. Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed will stop catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein across the day, just never after a workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up fast into the bloodstream, making casein a particularly bad choice. Casein protein can be taken pre workout as well, but this would not be the best use. A better pre workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and whey protein, thus permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout. Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not only make your shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release formula, effective straight away and sustaining for hours to come. Only once in the poem does Tennyson mention that a mistake has been made by saying not though the soldier knew. Someone had blundered . As the soldiers rode through the valley of death they were surrounded by the Russian cannons as the poem says Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them, Cannon in front of them. This tells us that the Russians had the British cavalry surrounded with cannons and were going to fire them as quickly as they could so they could kill as many soldiers as they could before they got to the Russian front line. At the end of the poem, in the last verse Tennyson wrote Honour the charge they made, Honour the light brigade, Noble six hundred . This tells us that in some way Tennyson wanted people to look at the Light Brigade as heroes. Now we are going to look at the second war poem The destruction of Sennacherib by Lord Byron (1788 1824). This poem is a biblical story. The battle took place in Mesopotamia (roughly where Iraq is now). The poem has rhyming couplets all the way through in the pattern AA BB. In the first verse there are two similes which try to emphasise the threat of the invading army. When the Assyrian army got wiped out by the Angel of Death (here Lord Byron uses personification), it says that the army was wiped out very quickly. In the poem, it says And breathed in the face of the foe as he pass d . This suggests to us that the Assyrian army was wiped out as quickly as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its steeple shoots proudly into the sky, displaying a clock of dubious accuracy. Old, brick storefronts form a square around the courthouse, broken only by four streets extending from the square. Next, a major effect of concussions is impulsive or irregular behavior which can be defined by aggression, memory loss, and suicide. Irritability is an outcome that not only negatively affects the individual, but those around them as well. For example, Michael (fictitious name) was hit during a high school football game in his freshman year and instantly experienced many concussion symptoms, including a contentious temper; he and his family continue to suffer the consequences of his concussion (Kluger 46). • 44. The Theme Of Water In Hamlet By William Shakespeare Water, in it s most simple form, is an element with multiple states and properties that make it essential or life. These properties and propensities for change also allow water to be an element full of uncertainty and shrouded in enigmas. In large quantities, water creates the deep mysteries of the sea, fast flowing rivers, murky ponds, and many natural phenomenons. In the play Hamlet, Shakespeare uses the motif of water to symbolize madness and the unknownin the characters Hamlet and Ophelia. Shakespeare presents water imagery relating to Hamlet s character in the very first act of the play, both explicitly and implicitly. The atmosphere of the platform, before the appearance of the ghost, is quiet and calm, almost too calm in the way that the world is before a heavy rainstorm, an example of Shakespeare s use of implied and explicit examples of loud auditory water imagery, suggesting that Hamlet s madness was spurred by a cacophony of voices and opinions that gave conflicting judgements on how he should act. The mood of the guard s platform and the use of erie, mysterious imagery to paint the picture of something ominous coming foreshadows Hamlet s eventual descent into the murky depths of the sea of madness.
