complex themes and stylistic elements present in the text. Kincaid's writing is known for its
concise yet powerful narrative style, often delving into themes of gender, identity, colonialism,
and familial relationships. Analyzing and interpreting these themes requires a deep understanding
of the text and its socio-cultural context.
Moreover, Kincaid employs a unique narrative structure in "Girl," utilizing a stream-of-
consciousness technique that can be difficult to navigate for some readers. Deciphering the
underlying messages and the significance of each element in the text requires careful attention to
detail and critical thinking skills.
Additionally, crafting an essay on this topic involves conducting thorough research to provide

The Issues and Constraints in Relation to the use of Business Information in Asda
In this assignment I will be explaining the issues and constraints in relation to the use
of business information in Asda. I will be outlining the operational issues within the
company.
Operational Issues
Asda will have different types of information. Some of their information will be more
important than other information within the organisation. Asda need to ensure that
the organisation receives the information it requires and that only their appropriate
employees receive the information. Asda need to make sure that their information is
handled properly so some policies and procedures have to be put in place. These are
the following headings:

They are rules and regulations that are needed and also need to be clear within the
work place. These policies ensure that decisions affecting staff are:
Understandable and consistent
Meet legal requirements
Take full account of their impact
Contribute to productive working relationships An example of this would be an Asda
employee breaking the Data Protection Act, e.g. employees having lack of
concentration when sending an unauthorised email to another employee. This email
could contain a lot of important information and the employee may have sent it to
someone that should not have seen it. Or the email could contain personal
information that isn t for anybody else s eyes
Business Continuance plans
This is where businesses like Asda would have plans of what they would do if the
worst case scenario where to happen. This would relate to Asda as they would have
regular backups on their systems every hour to make sure that not all work is lost if
something bad were to happen. Asda would have to think of all the possibilities and
even include natural disasters such as flooding, fire or human error, accidents like
human error or malicious attacks which would be hackers and people trying to
breach Asda s security systems, so Asda would need to ensure that their employees
are saving their

Bajaj Auto Ltd.
The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Its footprint stretches
over a wide range of industries, spanning automobiles (two wheelers and three
wheelers), home appliances, lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance.
The group s flagship company, Bajaj Auto, is ranked as the world s fourth largest two
and three wheeler manufacturer and the Bajaj brand is well known across several
countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South and South East Asia. Founded

It is all nonsense (family feud)... the work is divided and the ownership between four
brothers and two sons remains the same, he said.
As per the proposal, Bajaj Group s auto business will be demerged into a new
subsidiary Bajaj Holdings and Investment Ltd (BHIL) and other strategic businesses
such as wind energy, insurance and financial services would be demerged into
another new entity Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BFL).
Bajaj Auto shareholders would continue to hold one share of the company with face
value of Rs 10 and would also be allotted one BHIL share of Rs 10 face value and
one BFL share of Rs 5 face value. The demerger would be completed this year.
Rebuffing suggestions that the move was to spilt the group, he said: I will be the
chairman of all the three companies. It is not a split of Bajaj Auto. Out of Rs 8,500
crore cash and cash equivalents, Rs 1,500 cr will go to the new Bajaj Auto and Rs
800 crore will be transferred to BFL. The balance Rs 6,000 crore will remain with the
BHIL, Bajaj said.
The transaction will enable the new companies to tap into the cash pool of BHIL to
support future growth, while enabling BHIL to participate in the growth of the auto
business and the financial services business.
Ruling out any change in management structure of the group, Rahul Bajaj said: There
is generally no change in the management structure.

Best Two Things Of My Life
Best two things in my life
Reading and writing has always played part of me. From toddler to adult, I have
managed to sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly
helped, schooling was not what influenced me to continue developing those skills to
talent. Many different things shaped and influenced my learning in my country, and
now reading and writing have become the safety net of my life. I know that even if I
have nothing else in the future, I will still have my talent and knowledge. To ensure
my success, I hope to further develop those skills to be successful.
I was always a creative child; it was something I just could not not be. Back then I

However, something was missing from my life, and even then I could feel it.
When I got a little too old to play outside, I began reading. Reading was the new
outlet for my imagination and the stories I read fascinated me. They weren t too
unlike the scripts of computer games or the own stories I came up with on my
own, but books actually had the action and emotional aspects written out. And
again, while my peers were reading things about growing up, things that had
morals and would teach valuable lessons (I remember one book about a shoplifter
who had to do community service at an animal shelter), I read real fiction: Jurassic
Park, Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings... Stuff of fantasy and science fiction
that let my mind stray from reality. Stuff that kept my imagination alive while I
was being forced to learn multiplication and the names of countries. Of course, my
teachers encouraged me to keep reading, as long as I wasn t doing the reading in
the middle of their lectures. But it wasn t because of their influence, however, that
kept me interested in books. It was because I loved it. It put pictures into my head
and made me think. So I kept reading. But even then I knew reading wasn t enough...
Yes, the stories were fascinating, but they weren t what I wanted. Back then I wasn t

tickets to go see the animals at the shedd aquarium but it s the same week of the trip.
When they got to her grandma house Leshawna said
Did you guys bring your tickets
Yea everyone said. When they were settled they made cookies, went swimming, had
ice cream, went hunting in the forest for flowers, they had a bonfire, told ghost
stories. When they were about to go to bed all of the girls got into one room to talk

Persuasive Essay On Polar Bears
As the days go by, the weather gets warmer and the entire world population is
affected in one way or another. Global warming has long been an issue scientists
have been trying to raise awareness of. Not only does it bring rising average
temperatures, but it has an immense impact on the largest marine mammal, the polar
bear. The rising temperatures has caused polar bears to lose habitat and are forcing
them to move downward to search for alternative food sources. As a result, polar
bears will become extinct because of their hunting habits, their meat based diet, and
competition with the grizzly bear. The polar bear is in danger of becoming extinct
largely due to to the fact that the warm weather is giving them an insufficient
amount of time to hunt. According to the article Polar Bear , Polar bears can only
survive in areas where the oceans freeze, allowing them to hunt seals living under,
on, or in the frozen polar ice cap. This means, that with the rising temperatures and
melting ice caps, polar bears... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They argue that polar bears will survive or evolve. An argument is that their only
predator is man, however, they will come into competition with the grizzly bear
and not be able to survive. Another counter claim is that the polar bears will evolve
and adapt to their environments. Regardless of this, UCLA Biologists say, To
people who say polar bears can just change their diet, we are saying they WILL
change their diet they will have to but it probably won t be sufficient for them. Even
if the polar bear evolves to fit their environment, it will not be adequate, especially
with their competition with the grizzlies. Additionally, others say we can stop their
extinction by human preservation, but that would still require them to get used to a
new environment. Taking all sides into consideration, the polar bear is more likely to
become extinct than to evolve or
Reflection Of Scientific Language In The Poetry Of
Juliana...
Another poet that one can argue fits into this subsection of thought is Juliana Spahr,
whose various collections such as Nuclear, Responses, and this connection of
everyone with lungs are illustrative of the methods and means of modern women
writers, and the unwavering enquiry of knowledge that all those I have mentioned
exhibit. Within this connection of everyone with lungs Spahr utilises scientific
language, and methods to further a thematic notion of the errors in exceptionalist
thinking, that is the belief that something, someone or event, is exceptional in some
manner. This collection focuses on the events of 9/11 as cellular rupture and the
arguably unique ability of poetryto reflect on the external within its frame to reach a
catharsis and epistemic understanding of the conditions of modernity. In this use of
scientific language and her reliance on scientific knowledge and explanations to
confer meaning she arguably falls into a position of consilience.
Like other modern poets, Spahr focuses on biological linguistical systems and
exploration; this is evidenced from the onset of the long poem There are these
things: / cells, the movement of cells and the division of cells. In this opening
section of Poem Written after September 11, 2001 Spahr is immediately forming an
image of unification, each individual cell, is part of the movement of cells which is
part of the larger system of general beating of circulation and skin that surrounds,
hands, body, feet
Old Courthouse Research Paper
Before the red sandstone building came to life, there was a county jail that opened
in 1897. Initially, the County of Orange bought land in 1893 from Santa Ana s
founder, William Spurgeon, with the intention to build a courthouse (ocparks).
Originally, Orange Courthouse had no courthouse. So, by July 1900, construction
began through the use of architect Charles Strange s drawings. They were selected
specifically by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Successfully, the 1903
deadline was met considering it got completed by 1901 at a cost of $117,000. This
site is historical since it s the oldest surviving courthouse of Southern California, and
because of the significant cases that got decided at this courthouse such as:

The Henry Ford McCracken case was heard in 1952, and became historically the
longest trial in the Old Courthouse (first floor of courthouse). He was convicted of
kidnapping 12 year old Patricia Jean Hull from a movie theater and into his cottage
in Buena Park. Not only did he sexually assault her, but killed her. For three years,
the media was drawn to his escape of the gas chamber, and was put to death on
Feb. 19, 1954 at the age of 36 (ocregister). Agriculture is an important California
symbol so it is no surprise that there was a case held at the Old Courthouse about
agriculture known as The State of California Vs. The Irvine Company in the
1940s. The Irvine Ranch considered its hundreds of employees as agricultural
workers due to the fact that they worked on a ranch. They really did mean all of
their workers, even the bookkeepers, cooks, and the rest of the office staff. The
State of California sued in 1941 for back taxes after they demanded the company to
pay unemployment taxes on all their non agricultural workers. However, the court
ruled that majority of the Irvine s employees were agricultural workers by 1942.
Aside from cases, the Old Courthouse has appeared in a variety of movies and TV
shows. The earliest movie and TV shows that were shot in or around the courthouse
include: The File on Thelma Jordan (1950), Twilight of Honor (1963),

The Effect of Gibberellic Acid on Wild Type and Rosette Brassica rapa Plants Intro
This experiment was performed to test two hypotheses concerning the plant hormone
gibberellic acid and a mutant rosette shaped phenotype of the plant Brassica rapa.
This experiment was done in order to test the effects o gibberellic acid on plants and
its effect on rosette shaped complexes. The two hypotheses in this experiment are as
follows: Hypothesis number one states that Gibberellic acid allows for stem
elongation in plants. Hypothesis number two. The rosette complex in the rosette
phenotype plant contains less gibberellic acid naturally and therefore grows shorter.
Plant hormones are certain chemicals present in plants that control plant growth...

These not only affect the plant in their specific ways, they also have different
effects when they are present in certain ratios with the other chemicals. Plant
hormones maintain a delicate balance, and this experiment serves to observe that
balance (Campbell and Reese, 2008). There were two types of plants used. Both
were of the same species, Brassica rapa but two of the plants contained rosette
shaped complexes that were deficient in producing gibberellic acid compared to
the wild type plants. Therefore, they grew smaller and shorter as a phenotype. The
Brassicaceae family includes cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, and many others. (
Hypothesis The hypothesis behind this experiment is that the Gibberellic acid has
a positive growth effect on the plant and causes it grow larger in height. Materials
and Methods The experiment was begun by obtaining four 8 oz. Styrofoam cups
and punching a hole through the bottom of them. This hole was for water entry or
excess water drainage. Moistened soil was packed to the 1/2 full line in the cup
along with 3 fertilizer pellets The cups were labeled the following: Rosette H20,
Rosette GA, Wild Type H2O, and Wild type GA.(Handout 1) A small wooden
applicator stick was obtained a moistened at the tip with water from the petri dish

A Brief Note On The Ethics Of Placebo
1.The Ethics of Placebo.
In medical field, it is quite interesting considering how the brain works and the
power of mind perception that can affect the overall body. In this case, placebos are
examples that justify this. Placebos are mainly given to a patient to ease the pain
and to satisfy their desire of wanting to receive a medical care or treatments or
plainly just the desire of the doctor to help. Regarding to whether patient should be
informed or not, I think that informing a patient is not obligatory when prescribing a
placebo. Scientifically, it is proven that the use of placebo in treating some diseases
seems to work effectively with or without deception. Kaptchuk et al. (2010) reported
that nearly 60% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome felt better after knowingly
consuming placebos (in the form of sugar pills) comparing to 35% of patients
without such medication. But if we take an insight look at the research, even though
the patients know about the placebo, the researchers however, also added that it has
shown to promote or generate a self healing processes related to mind body
connection. This implicates that it might not be the placebo itself that cause such
placebo effects but how it is given in terms of addressing the message to the patients.
In other words, they implanted a suggestion to the patients that even though it is just
a sugar pill but it is proven to be useful that made patients became more convinced
that it has the same effect as the actual
Nixon s Presidency A Period Wrought With Scandal
Nixon s presidency a period wrought with scandal. The most well known of these,
Watergate, a complex web of deceit, has become a political term synonymous with
corruption and crime. Afraid of possible defeat in the 1972 election, Nixon and his
republican associates sanctioned underhanded, illegal, acts, namely a break in at the
Democratic Party national headquarters at the Watergate complex. The break in failed
and the story was revealed to the public, despite the Nixon administration s attempts
to cover up the scandal. As a result of their insistence on covering up the infamous
event, the leadership of the United States was sent spiraling into a mess of treachery
and dishonesty, threatening both the nation s stability and future. Beginning the night
of June 16, 1972, and continuing on into the wee hours of the morning on June 17,
Nixon and his seven associate burglars G. Gordan Liddy, E. Howard Hunt, James
McCord, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, Eugenio Martinez, and Frank Sturgis
attempted to break in to the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C., headquarters of
the Democratic National Committee, with the intent to use phone bugs and photos to
provide Nixon, a Republican, with information that would hopefully secure him the
victory in the 1972 presidential election (Anderson 8 10). To begin, the burglars
placed tape on stairway doors, preventing them from locking, allowing them to make
an easy exit, the first of many mistakes (Cruden 16). Armed with walkie talkies and
Watergate
Watergate Scandal
Ever since the beginning of time, scandals have occurred. But one of the biggest and
infamous scandals is the Watergate. Approximately forty years ago from date, a
Watergate protector found a small portion of tape attached on the lock of on the
National Democratic Headquarters door. Then it all began.
The Watergate s attempted break in was a part of a bigger operation by President
Nixon. The rumor was Nixon s supporters and people involved in the scandal wanted
to tarnish the name of the Democratic parties. Democratic contenders were hassled
and even two of National Democratic Headquarters were cracked into.
When people became aware of the scandal, Nixon enclosed the issue. Even though the
cover up was attempted, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eventually, more hours of recorded discussions were found. These tapes displayed
that Nixon was even more involved in the scandal than people believed. A recorded
discussion in 1972 verified that Nixon and Hardeman communicated to try to hide the
conspiracy from further investigation.
After the whole Watergate incident other illegal events were also revealed. For
example, the plumbers , a White House assembly, were doing everything in their
power to prevent media from gathering information. Most of the media though did not
understand the consequences of the Watergate scandal, so they focused on reporting
on other things that were related to the 1972 election. After the exposure that one of
the condemned intruders wrote to Judge, the media turned its focused. The popular
magazine, Time Magazine, defined Nixon as experiencing daily hell and very little
trust .
Mainly everyone had a different perception of politics after this scandal, including
America. There was a widespread public perception that the political process had
been thoroughly corrupted, Robert Hockett says. Public policy seemed to be up for
sale to the highest. Why reforms faltered Congress attempted to change that
perception by passing laws that created a system of public financing for political
campaigns. Disclosure laws were enacted to root out secret donors. Limits were
placed on campaign donations and private
The Effects Of Resveratrol And Its Effect On The Risk Of...
ABSTRACT Resveratrol (3,4 ,5 trihydroxystilbene) is a naturally occurring
phytochemical present in red wine, grapes, berries, chocolate and peanuts. Clinically,
resveratrol has exhibited significant antioxidant, anti inflammatory, anti viral, and anti
cancer properties. Although resveratrol was first isolated in 1940, it was not until
the last decade that it was recognised for its potential therapeutic role in reducing the
risk of neurodegeneration, and Alzheimer s disease (AD) in particular. AD is the
primary cause of progressive dementia. Resveratrol has demonstrated neuroprotective
effects in several in vitro and in vivo models of AD. Apart from its potent antioxidant
and anti inflammatory roles, evidence suggests that resveratrol also facilitates non
amyloidogenic breakdown of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), and promotes
removal of neurotoxic amyloid beta (AОІ) peptides, a critical step in preventing and
slowing down AD pathology. Resveratrol also reduces damage to neuronal cells via a
variety of additional mechanisms, most notably is the activation of NAD+ dependent
histone deacetylases enzymes, termed sirtuins. However in spite of the considerable
advances in clarifying the mechanism of action of resveratrol, it is unlikely to be
effective as monotherapy in AD due to its poor bioavailability, biotransformation, and
requisite synergism with other dietary factors. This review summarizes the relevance
of resveratrol in the pathophysiology of AD. It also highlights
Infectious Diseases Are Schools And Daycare Centers
One of the most common places for the spread of infectious diseases are schools
and daycare centers. Children can easily contract diseases from infected objects and
from other children. Influenza is a viral respiratory illness affecting thousands of
children and adults each year. According to the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (2013), an average of 20,000 children under the age of 5 suffer from flu
related complications and end up hospitalized every year. In addition to respiratory
illnesses, children also contract gastrointestinal and skin illnesses in schools and
daycare centers. Respiratory illness and gastrointestinal illness both rank as major
causes of morbidity in young children. Prevention is the best defense against... Show

Although it is inevitable to keep their children from all infectious diseases, parents
can greatly reduce the chances of contracting them. Young children, especially
infants and toddlers, have an increased chance of infections because they use their
hands to explore objects and other children and then frequently wipe their noses and
mouths where viruses can enter. Healthychildren.org (2014) states that most
children that attend child care facilities and schools have as many as 8 to 12 colds
a year along with a few episodes of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms of the
flu, like vomiting and diarrhea, can cause severe fluid volume deficit in young
children and can lead to life threatening complications. There are several available
educational guides and teaching tools published for parents to use as resources in the
prevention and management of diseases contracted in child care facilities especially
influenza. One of the best prevention is to receive the most current flu vaccine and to
update all immunizations. Schools, hospitals, medical volunteer programs and the
department of health in each state offer a number of resources where parents can
take their children to receive the flu vaccine. The Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) strongly recommends that children 6 months and older should get
the flu vaccine. It is important to keep aware of when the flu

Money And Price Level Essay
CHAPTER TWO
LITERATURE REVIEW
2.1 Introduction
The relationship between money supply and price level is very influential topic in
the field of macroeconomic literature, which has received greater attention among
government agencies, policy makers and researchers. This topic has been
continuously discussed in the economic society since 16th century. The general price
level of every economy is being continuously reported to be high from 16th century
to present 21st century except some years. These higher price levels compelled the
economists to carry out the study on whether over money supply are responsible to
cause inflation or there are any other reasons responsible for high price or inflation.
The economists have spent a lot of time in finding the causes of higher prices in the
economy and reached the conclusion that higher prices are caused by different factors
like unnecessary money supply, higher income, high wage rate, scarcity of
commodities, increase in cost of production, international reasons, institutional factors
etc. However, unnecessary and over money supply has been taken as the influential
factor responsible to cause inflation or higher price in the economy by most of the
economists in the world.
Any economy should bear the high social and economic cost of inflation as there is
no price stability. Over the past two decades, the policy makers are much worried
with the instability of prices keeping in mind of the negative influences of rising
price level in the
Analysis Of The Poem Easter
On Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, members of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish
Citizen Army occupied Dublin s General Post Office, and from its steps, Patrick
Pearse read a proclamation of the Irish Republic. The British military responded
with force, and the Easter Rising, as it became known, came to an end with the
rebels surrender on April 29. In England at the time, W. B. Yeats learned about the
Rising mostly through newspapers and through letters from his friend and
patroness, Lady Gregory. As the British forces imposed martial law and, in early
May, executed fifteen of the Rising s leaders, some of whom Yeats knew
personally, the events in Ireland moved Yeats to begin writing the poem which
became Easter, 1916. On May 11, Yeats wrote to Lady Gregory that he had
received a letter from his long time muse Maud Gonne, who had written from
France with the belief that the revolutionaries had raised the Irish cause again to a
position of tragic dignity (White 372). He went on to relate his own attempts to
interpret recent events: I am trying to write a poem on the men executed terrible
beauty has been born again. (Wade 613). The phrase terrible beauty, with its initial t
and final ty, seems to echo Gonne s tragic dignity, though the negatively charged
terrible strains against beauty, making Yeats s phrase more ambivalent than Gonne s.
Yeats may not have used the word tragic, but a sense of tragedy pervades Easter,

Project Based Learning Analysis
I think Project Based Learning has a more positive impact on learning and
understanding than traditional learning. When I was an elementary student, I
always enjoyed projects more than lectures because I was never bored. When I m
being talked at in a lecture about new information the important points tend to go
in one ear and out the other. I also know that I understand a concept better when I
m shown an example or when I try it out myself. When I was in 3rd grade, we had
to make a simple machine, in science. We had two months to work on a machine
on our own time at home. We had to make a basic mechanical device for applying
force. The mechanical device had to include either a pulley, lever, wedge, inclined
plane, screw, or a wheel and axle.
What Made Non Violence Work
Gandhi and Mandela: What Made Non Violence Work?
Background Essay The history of violence in the world is well documented.
However it is also possible to use non violence to bring about change. This DBQ will
look at two countries where a non violent movement was successful.
Historic Context India and South Africa were two important nations on two different
continents. But although they looked strong on the outside, each one suffered from a
disease that threatened the health of the whole. For India, the disease was
colonization. For South Africa, it was racial segregation.
Three Conditions In each of these nations three conditions help explain why non
violence worked. The first condition was that both of them ... Show more content on

This was the first time, though not the last, that
Mandela felt disrespected for his blackness.
In the 1930 s it was rare for a black South African to attend college. But Mandela not
only attended, he graduated, got a degree from law school, and set up a practice in
Johannesburg which he hoped could support his small family. Yet apartheid was
always a humiliation to him. When the Afrikaner, or Dutch South African,
Nationalists came to power in the 1948 election, the segregation habits of the past
three hundred years became law. Hoping for a brighter future, Mandela joined the
African National Congress (ANC) and became its first Youth Leader.
In the 1960s, many of the colonial nations of Africa were gaining independence. The
ANC was encouraged and campaigned for democracy in South Africa. They were
mild campaigns at first, but as the government became more hostile, so did ANC
protests. In November 1961, a military branch of the party was organized with
Mandela as its head. It authorized the limited use of arms and sabotage against the
government, which got the government s attention and its anger! Mandela went into
hiding in 1964, he was captured, tried, and sentenced to life imprisonment. It was a
sad day for black South Africa.

Essay On L. A Riots Of 1992
The L.A. Riots Of 1992: My Thoughts and Perspectives The L.A. Riots is one of
the massive riots in american history. The riots were caused by the injustice beating
of Rodney King by four officers. To put it in perspective, the riots happened because
of racism by jury and officers. I watched a sundance film trailer about the L.A. Riots
and how koreanswere affected by the riots. After watching the trailer, I decided to
do research and I learned about the deep details of how the riots happened. The L.A.
Riots changed my morals on how people can be proved guilty or innocent so easily,
plus my perspectives on racism against minorities of the United States. My
perspective is that policehave been harassing more people of color more during the...

Years later, The L.A. Riots had stopped and people went on their lives. But the riots
were never forgotten Even though the L.A. Riots affected black americans, it also
affected korean immigrants and americans. Some of the riots took place in
Koreatown and Richard Rhee, a man that was involved in the riots, was interviewed
about what has the riots done to the korean community. Richard Rhee knew and saw
other korean stores being vandalized during the L.A. riots. Rhee had guns ready for
the onslaught of rioters and many koreans had shotguns. Koreans made their stores
into fortresses against the rioters and they knew the police cannot help them. The
attacks on Koreatown would continue for the whole riot ordel. There were many of
evenings were korean americans had to defend their stores from rioters. Protecting
their shops and their families from the dangers of the rioters. During and after the
riots, the korean community and the black community would have a racial tensions
for a few decades. But recently, the tensions have been dropped after a few decade
years.
Koreatown was not the first ones to be attacked by riots. Florence and Normandie
Avenues were the first riots police officers had to deal with. The news always on
cameras on the riots for every hour of rioting. Families would watch as the attacks on
the avenues increased against police and stores. Rioters run around the streets
destroyed cars and harming people as well. The rioters would retreat, but came
Genetically Modified Organisms Are Safe And Should Be
Used
Day in and day out we are beginning to eat more and more foods with genetically
modified organisms. A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose
genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic
engineering. Although some see this as a bad thing, I personally feel that GMOs are
safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is something that is used daily
in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic modification
is Bt corn.
Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for
humans. About eighty million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1),
Corn is an ingredient in a multitude of food and manufactured products such as
starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and rubbing alcohol (Capehart 1). The first
genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United States in 1996 (Thomson
20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn has
increased considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step
is removing the desired gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step
due to the inadequate amount of information known about certain genes needed to
enhance the genetic makeup of plants (Romero 1). Two main functions involved in
this step are restriction enzymes and DNA ligase (Romero 1). The DNA ligase puts
the DNA fragments back together. The second step is cloning the desired gene. The
gene now undergoes a

Low Carb diets are Reckless and Dangerous?
The Medical and sports nutrition establishment are horrified by the concept of low
carbohydrate and ketogenic diets. While studies are being released almost daily
proving the superiority of low carb diets for fat loss, the medical establishment
warns against trying them as the long term health risks are unknown . Apparently it
is a case of better the devil you know than the devil you don t .
Dangerous because we don t know IF they re safe
This fence sitting attitude is an absolutely inexcusable disgrace! The devil we know
a devil only revealed as a result of the high carb recommendations is epidemic levels
of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and depression. Is there any possibility of
the unknown risk being worse than the sickness that the health department
recommendations have caused? I think not!
There Might be Side Effects
It is the most patronising hypocrisy that the Medical community warn against using a
treatment (low carb dieting) PROVEN to cure a disease state
My Small Group Leadership Experience (PFO)
I was a PFO teen from 2011 2013 during my junior and senior years in high school.
When in PFO, I was a co chair of the Winter Ball Committee, the Concert
Committee, and was a Small Group Leader. My experiences in PFO made up a huge
part of my high school experience that allowed me to make awesome friends, step
out of my comfort zone, and grow as a leader.
After graduating high school, I went to UNC Chapel Hill. Although I wasn t sure
about my major, but was able to take interesting classes and join various clubs and
organizations. One of those was AIESEC, a leadership development platform that
facilitates global exchange. My leadership experience in PFO gave me the

The Giver Movie And Book Differences
The Giver is a story about choices that started as a book by Lois Lowry. In twenty
fourteen, a movie adaption was made of the beloved story. While maintaining the
same theme, the movie differs from the book. Today, we are here to talk about the
differences in the movie and the book, as well as the similarities. What will the
movie have that the book doesn t? Read on and discover what is the same and what
is different regarding, The Giver.
Let s start off with the similarities between the movie and novel. A significant
similarity is that both the movie and novel have the ceremony of 12 s, along with the
event of every newborn receiving a comfort object. Going on,,Gabe, (the child that
never really grew to the standards of the community) is scheduled for release in the
movie and novel. Last but not least,, when Jonas and Gabe are nearing the end of
their long trek to Elsewhere, Jonas experiences an odd feeling (joy) that leaves the
story on a cliffhanger. All in all, many similarities can be found within the book and
movie, leaving us left with the general idea of the plot. ... Show more content on

First off, an African American woman is shown in the movie, while in the book it
is claimed that differing skin colors were removed when the world was converted
to sameness. Second, in the movie, Fiona has pale eyes, but Jonas has brown eyes,
the complete opposite of the book. (Pale eyes signify you can see beyond). Counter
to the book, the movie shows that Asher is assigned to drone pilot, whereas in the
book he is assigned to be the recreation director. Also, in the movie families get
injections when they go out of the house, when in the book the families get pills.
Overall, the movie and book may have differences, but they both mostly stay true to

The Betrays Of Betrayals In William Shakespeare s Julius...
While reading the story of Julius Caesar (William Shakespeare) there is many lies
and many lairs. So much betrayal is going around it is no surprise when
Shakespeare threw another one at us by using Brutus to kill off Caesar. One more
betrayal to top it off. Although, some people think differently and believe that
Brutus was a patriot. Some believe that even though Brutus committed a crime, he
was trying to do the right thing. He wanted to end Caesars reign for the good of
Rome and for the good people of Rome. This is in fact true. Brutus wanted to
protect Rome. He believed that in his heart, if something was not done, Rome
would not be Rome much longer. However, the way he went about it was wrong.
Though his heart was in the right place, his head was not. After all, the road to hell
is paved with good intentions. Had it been anyone else there is no doubt that they
would have been killed but Brutus was the most noble man in Rome thus giving
him a chance to redeem himself by winning the peoples favor. After killing Caesar,
he was to give a speech. In this speech, he was to give an explanation as to why he
killed Caesar. Surprisingly a simple thing to do since he committed treason. When
Brutus spoke, the romans agreed with what he was saying. However, they soon
changed their minds when Anthony was asked to speak as well. In his speech, he
used logic and emotions to reach the audience and speak to them. It is because of this
that he gained the peoples favor. One of the main
Should Juvenile Criminals Be Tried As Adults
The definition of a juvenile is a person of a young age who has committed a crime.
This young age may vary from one through seventeen. Essentially these juveniles are
considered to be children, in which case means they are not fully matured. Children
mess up; they do things they are not supposed to, test limits, and push people to their
max because they are not fully aware of the consequences that lie ahead of them due
to the fact that their maturity level is still relatively low. With that being said,
juveniles should not be tried as adults when being sentenced because these teens have
not fully developed. Throughout all five articles that discuss several cases in juvenile
crimes, there are many different opinions in which they should or
Anne Sexton Bells
Bells, in poetry they are known to be haunting memories or sometimes dreadful
thoughts of the past. In the poem The Bells by Anne Sexton, if you didn t
understand the meaning of bells in poetry, the true message of this poem may be
missed. With this in mind, if you look a little deeper into the poem, the meaning of
the poem will come into view. However, another key detail that is necessary to
know is that through Anne s life she was depressed, approximately all of her
poems had dark thoughts and had a woman being a main subject in a crisis. In the
poem The Bells, the theme, style, and speaker of the poem is clear to see with the
knowledge that is provided above. First of all, the theme in the poem The Bells are
almost plain to see. While... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, both of these meanings centers around the main theme of loss. In the
poem, multiple times it talks about objects or sounds that used to be there and only
now remain in their memory. It says in the first stanza, Only the sound remains
/ the distant thump of the good elephants / the voice of the ancient lions / and how
the bells / trembled for the flying man, and Today the circus poster / is scabbing off
the concrete wall / and the children have forgotten / if they knew at all. / Father, do
you remember? , both are examples of telling the audience that something was once
there before, something exciting and wonderful, but now haunting. The first quote
talks about how the people remember the sounds of the animals of the circus and
the sounds of the flying man as he gets shot in the sky possibly by a cannon. With
both of the lines, however, when the poem is read numerous times after the initial
first time, the feeling of the deserted circus is there and feels haunting like
something bad may have happened to cause the circus to leave or disappear. Now,
the main point of the poem either means that you should cherish the wonderful
moments before they disappear or to be cautious of what you do. This is because
when the poem is read, two different ideas come
Comparing Life In Inferno And Illiad
The Choice of Life in Inferno and Illiad Dante in his story of Inferno paves his way
through hell, purgatory, and heaven to find the meaning of life and the lessons to
be learned or not learned by one s mistakes in their mortal life. Dante believes God
sets us all up for success, it is whether or not you follow his step for you and what
God wants you to be. The Illiad by Homer create the idea that man himself cannot
control his own destiny. Your destiny is pre made and controlled by the Gods. As the
Illiad goes on though, the characteristics continually say that man control their
destiny and fate of their own actions. Each of these stories argue the true outcome of
their lives; Hell, Heaven, or eternal glory from either their actions... Show more

The Gods are able to manipulate mortal s fate, but not their own. In Book I, the
plague is a consequence of the upsetting of Apollo. The Gods produce drama over
their own inner conflicts, quickly switching sides without consideration creating
tragedies for the Achaeans/Trojans, and throwing temper tantrums upon not
getting the outcome that they had wished for. Not only do they show favoritism
without any sense of moral or political issues attributing to the Trojan war, they
depict mortals lives and destiny through their own feelings and pleasure. Zeus, the
God of Gods, controls what he can of the Gods, but most of them behave as if they
are above his authority. The Iliad begins with Zeus reflection of Greek s belief that
man is in the grip of forces that he cannot control. Book XXII shows that the Gods
do in fact control the choice of life of mortals: But once they reached the springs
for the fourth time, then Father Zeus held out his sacred golden scales. In them, he
placed two fates of death that lays men low one for Achilles, one for Hector breaks
of horses and gripping the beam mid haft the father raised it high and down went
Hectors day of doom, dragging him down to the strong House of Death (22. 248
254) Homer demonstrates in the beginning of the Illiad that the God determines
their fate and they have no control of their fate. As the story goes on, Achilles
comes to the realization that men control their destiny by their actions. Achilles
chooses the short life with glory over a long life without glory. But Achilles soon
comes to realize that he is not in control where he is spoken by Hera through his
horse telling that Yes! We will save your life this time too master, mighty Achilles!
But the day of death already hovers hear, and we are not to be blamed, but a great
god is and the strong force of fate. (19, 483 486) No matter

What is Branding?
Branding is most commonly known as a form of marketing practice that links a
company s product and services to cultural meanings. According to Rashid (2012),
brands have become one of the most discussed phenomena of marketing research in
recent years. Brands are not simply a symbol on a product or a mere graphic but a
company s signature on constantly renewed creative process that yields various
products. While products can live and disappear, the brand remains alive. The
consistency of this creative process is what gives a brand its meaning and
characters. Logos have also become an increasingly important element of a brand in
today s mass market economy as a means of differentiation. Logos are the first step
for any marketing as it is the face of the brand. According to Stahle (2002), logos help
companies distinguish themselves from their competitors when there are so many
product choices for consumers as they
A Report On Tigers Delight

Tigers Delight The largest tiger in the world has been measured at over ten feet long
and over six hundred and sixty pounds! Tigers are apart of the cat family and are
known to be the largest feline in the bunch. Within just the tiger species there are nine
different subspecies and three of which are already extinct. Their differences are
not as drastic in appearance like other animals, such as dogs for example, but they
still noticeable to the trained eye. All tiger subspecies are currently classified as
being endangered but there are many actions being taken to help keep the current
surviving species from going extinct. Most tigers in nature live to be ten to fifteen
years old. Tigers by nature are carnivores and are only found in nature in one
continent on earth, which is Asia. Unlike most cats tiger enjoy swimming and
spend the majority of the hot summer days resting in rivers or lakes. OneKind.org
is an animal relief organization and they explain that tiger s roar can carry more
than 2 km and they are most active hunters at night (OneKind). Knowing information
about the six living subspecies of tigers and their differences, whether it be physical
make up or social habits, and what organizations are out there and what they are
doing to help the endangered species, is a brilliant start to having a well rounded
knowledge of tigers.
Like all mammals tigers grow up, but what s unique to tigers that is different
Warren Buffett American Growth
The railroad in the United States assisted with its growth and expansion from sea to
shining sea. However, with the advent of the personal vehicle, trucks, and aviation,
the railroad began to decline (Gallamore Meyer, 2014). Therefore, one might
question why Warren Buffett purchased Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for
$26.5 billion dollars. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars was spent, no
one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has
become a main source of income for Warren Buffetts company, Berkshire Hathaway
(Buhayar, 2014). There are a few reasons how Warren Buffett saw this growth coming
and capitalized. Mr. Buffett has throughout his years of life seen a steady growth in

Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010).
Furthermore, the means to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley,
2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe
Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that according
to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to
pipelines (O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern
Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr. Buffett believes that as hauling via truck
becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail system will be preferred
(Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple, rail
uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton
of goods 500 miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard
pressed to find a trucking company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices
rise, rail would become more viable. Warren Buffett has personally been quoted
stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the United States,
allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore,
as pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the
problem via expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley,

Science vs. Nature as a Means of Obtaining Perfection in...
Although we may mask our insecurities with false confidence and bravado, deep
down most people crave perfection. As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea
of perfection is unobtainable. The older we get, the more we tend to accept the
flaws and imperfections that make us individuals. However, there are others who
never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend ridiculous amounts of
money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these
marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between
science and nature. On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on
the other there s the scientific shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the
original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe that this is perhaps a topic
Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided distaste
for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark.
Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He
possesses a belief in man s ultimate control over nature , and thinks there is nothing
man can t overcome (Harun). His obsession with his wife Georgiana s small birth
mark, which resembles a hand, begins after they re married. Aylmer is fixated with
the idea of Georgiana s perfection; he believes that in order for him to experience
perfect love, he must have a perfect woman to love (Norman). His obsession and
distaste gradually wear
Australian Drinking Culture Essay

Australia has a well established and deeply ingrained drinking culture and while
most people are satisfied with a few beers on the odd weekend or a glass of wine
with dinner, others have become addicted and have developed alcohol dependence.
With alcohol dependency now the most common substance use disorder in
Australia the effects of this disorder are far reaching and catastrophic not only for
the individual suffering the addiction and their family and friends, but for our
government as well who is shelling out billions of dollars annually to address the
fallout of this disorder. However, the devastation caused by such addictions may be a

Davies found that when given to mice, Ivermectin blocked the effects of alcohol
on receptors in the brain, thereby blocking cravings, the tendency to seek out
alcohol and the rewarding effects of the alcohol. Alcohol dependent mice that were
given Ivermectin where found to drink almost 50 percent less alcohol than those
who were not given the drug. This significant and promising finding could see the
medical profession moving away from current abstinence based treatment
programs, which have success rates of less than 10 percent, towards such a
program that allows alcoholics to enjoy a drink or two but be able to stop at that.
However, while successful in curbing alcohol consumption in mice trials, the drug
has yet to be trialed on humans. This poses two issues; firstly while the drug is FDA
approved it is currently used at most two or three times per year in humans, for the
treatment of parasitic infections. However, alcoholism is a chronic disease, therefore
in order for the drug to be effective, it would need to be taken daily. Secondly, while
the drug has been successful in altering the drinking patterns of mice, it might not
prove to have the same success in

Functionalist Perspective Of Education
The opening to chapter 13 begins with the experiences of various families that have
different problems with education that led them to the conclusion of homeschooling.
Education contributes to what is known as the credential society that we have today,
as the degrees earned in education determine jobs that people are eligible for. The
certification that education provides a person is used as evidence that the individual
is capable of certain tasks and has certain skills. The more developed a nation, the
more extensive an education that they provide their people, and this trend is seen
across Most Industrialized, Industrializing, and Least Industrialized Nations.
Education is seen in many different perspectives, especially amongst sociologists.
Functionalists focus on the major functions that education serves, such as teaching of
knowledge and skills, cultural transmission of values, social integration, social
placement, and mainstreaming. The conflict perspective, on the other hand, focuses
on how education reproduces the social class structure through unequally funding and
having schools exclusive to the elite. This is while the symbolic interactionist s
perspective focuses on the interaction of the classroom and how student performance
typically conforms to the expectations that the teacher has over them. Like everything
else in the world, education isn t perfect by far, as there are many problems, such as
mediocrity, grade inflation, social promotion, fake data, and
Sibling Rivalry Is A Conflict Of Differences
Our siblings. They resemble us just enough to make all their differences confusing,
and no matter what we choose to make of this, we are cast in relation to them our
whole lives long. said American author Susan Scarf Merrell. Siblings are very
similar to each other, and are bound by blood and proximity. Despite this, they are
their own person, they influence each other so much, but are different in how they
act and appear, if only minisculely. Siblingrivalry is just another conflict of
differences. Despite how close siblings are to one another, and being raised by the
same parents, older and younger siblings exhibit many differences in the personality
of each other that set them apart. Older siblings are, like younger siblings, born of the
same parentand are usually raised in similar ways. Older siblings fight with their
younger siblings in what s called sibling rivalry. Older siblings can tease,
physically fight, and compete to gain their parents and guardians affections.
Another similarity is the role of development. An older sibling s way of thinking
might translate to a younger sibling. Older siblings are the elder children of a
couple, and as such, follow more in the footsteps of their parents. They are more
oftenly introverted and serious. This is most likely due to the lack of closely
related peers and can also be the case in only children. The older a sibling is, the
more resources they had access to, usually leading to increased height and build.
Quantification Of Caffeine And Benzoic Acid
Quantification of Caffeine and Benzoic Acid in Mountain Dew Using HPLC

Abstract
The regulation of contents in beverages is important for the health and safety of the
public. The chemicals caffeine and benzoic acid are common additives to beverages
for the stimulation effect and as a preservative, respectively. To simultaneously
determine the amount of each of these chemicals, a method combining UV/Visible
spectroscopy and reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography was
introduced. The experimentally determined concentrations at the 95% confidence
interval of caffeine and benzoic acid in Mountain Dew were 149 +/ 5 ppm and 308 +

Figure 1. The structure of caffeine and benzoic acid with their molecular weights and
formulas.
Many manufactures release the caffeine content of their products publically, but not
always, and new products and flavors are continuously introduced to the market. If
quality checks are not performed, manufactures may alter the caffeine and benzoic
acid content to suit the demands without public knowledge. To ensure the levels of
caffeine and benzoic acid in products do not exceed the established safe limits and to
inform the public of the amount of these compounds being consumed, various
methods of analysis have been performed. Before the introduction of modern
techniques, spectrophotometric methods alone were used to determine concentration
of a compound in a mixture.6 The caffeine content in coffee, tea, soft drink, and
energy drinks were determined using an immunoassay.7 The caffeine content in
mixtures also used to have to be extracted before quantification.8
In this study, the use of an HPLC instrument with a UV/Vis detector to determine
concentration of caffeine and benzoic acid in an unknown solution mixture will be
evaluated by its ability to calculate these concentrations in Mountain Dew.

Encounters Failure
When an individual encounters failure, there is a feeling of defeat that they
experience, although that feeling can ultimately push someone down the right path
which eventually results in success. Most people can say that they had to fail at one
point throughout their life before they reached their peak of success. The Pursuit of
Happyness, directed by Gabrielle Muccino, is a film that displays how failure plays
a significant role in an individual s life as they are striving towards success. The
protagonist in the film, Chris Gardner, demonstrates how one can overcome
adversity and failure, and use it as a stepping stone on the path towards their
determined success. Chris experiences initial failure that starts him on the proper
path towards success, he faces failure along his journey towards his goal that forces
him to work even harder and giving him a better chance at success, and he finally
attains all of the success he had been working extremely hard for due to all of the
failure he endured along the way. The Pursuit of Happyness illustrates how failure can

I, Robot vs. Frankenstein
In the 19th century Mary Shelley introduced us her first and unique novel
Frankenstein. Almost 200 years later director Alex Proyas released his new
blockbuster I, Robot based on the homonymous short story by Isaac Asimov. Both
stories tell the viewer a fiction about creatures produced by human beings. These
creatures feel itself as a stranger in the society and misunderstood. But even if the
stories have the same beginning they are presented in a different way. So the
question is: Is the movie I, robotthe Frankensteinof the 21st century?
The future world of I, Robot is introduced to the audience through the eyes of
Detective Del Spooner (Will Smith). Before he experienced a tragedy, he used to be
a normal person, but now he seems to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Few days later Frankenstein s younger brother is found dead. Frankenstein knows
right away that properly the monster has murder his brother. So he goes to look for
him. When he finds him, he noticed that the monster is now able to talk. The
creature tells him that he learned to talk when he watched one family, but when he
comes closer to the family and want to be their friend they chase him away. And so
does everybody. He feels so lonesome and alone, that he wants Frankenstein to create
a girlfriend for him so he is no lonely anymore. As a result he may have then
somebody to talk to. In return the monster would turn his back to the human race.
Consequently Frankenstein creates a female mate for the monster, but when he is
almost through the work he is suddenly overwhelmed with fear that the monster and
his mate will spawn more monsters and destroy the human race. So he destroys the
female. Thereupon the creature murders Frankenstein s fiancГ©e.
So it is seen that Frankenstein s experience with science and technology to satisfy his
curiosity if it would be possible to animate a dead person scared him. This unites Dr.
Lanning and Frankenstein in some way, because he also wanted to satisfy his
curiosity. But there is also a big difference, Lanning wanted to invent something for
humanity, to help them, to fulfill their needs. In contrast Frankenstein just seems to
be curious about figuring out whether it would be possible to animate a dead
The Effects Of Equine Facilitated Learning On Adolescents
Summary The article written by Pendry, Smith Roeter (2014) discusses the effects of
equine facilitated learning on adolescents basal cortisol levels. In healthy adolescents,
basal cortisol levels were highest in the morning and dropped rapidly throughout the
day with troughs around midnight. Although equine involved programs have become
increasingly popular over the last decade, prior to this article no research has been
published on the effects that horses have on human development and emotional
wellbeing. The experiment was conducted over an eleven week period with students
from different schools, fifth through eighth grade, in a rural university town in the
Pacific Northwest area of the United States (Pendry et al., 2014). Subject referrals
came from school counselors who had been treating students for academic and/or
behavioral issues. The group of students participating included forty one males and
seventy two females with an average age of eleven years. Participants were
predominantly Caucasian or Hispanic. The students were randomly divided into two
groups with fifty three assigned to experimental conditions and sixty assigned to
waitlisted conditions. The independent variable in this experiment is participation in
the eleven week program. The dependent variable would be the children that were
waitlisted. The research was conducted through survey and experiment conditions
(King L. A., 2014). Parents of the participants were asked to fill out several questions

Matriarchal Madness
Women have been silenced for generations upon generations, their voices of reason
stripped away and locked inside the caves of submissiveness. The key is thrown
out into a vast ocean of misery and peril, and the hope to break free slowly
diminishes. Yet, there are always those women who will never accept their expected
place in society. These women try to break down those barriers in attempts to leave
an imprint on this ever changing world. In civilizations such as Athens, women were
looked down upon and this battle to leave behind tradition proved to be almost if not
fatal. Sophocles Oedipus the King and Antigone exemplify three distinct female
Athenian characters who approach this battle with different fronts. Through analysis
of Ismene, Antigone and Jocasta s distinct characters, the reader better understands
how Sophocles uses a feminine voice to break away from the tradition discerned in
Athenian life to advocate for the rise of a matriarchal influence.
Ismene s emotional facade overpowers her drive for defeating corruption, which
prompts her to plead for mercy rather than demand justice. Sophocles uses Ismene s
character to serve as the expected Athenian woman, one without a voice in society.
Yet, Sophocles tries to break away from this mold, illustrating the effect of a silenced
woman through Ismene s personality. Essentially, Ismene s inferiority as a woman
paralyzes her, and therefore,

And again, while my peers were reading things about growing up, things that had morals and would teach valuable lessons (I remember one book about a shoplifter who had to do community service at an animal shelter), I read real fiction: Jurassic Park, Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings... • 6. Persuasive Essay On Polar Bears As the days go by, the weather gets warmer and the entire world population is affected in one way or another. Global warming has long been an issue scientists have been trying to raise awareness of. Not only does it bring rising average temperatures, but it has an immense impact on the largest marine mammal, the polar bear. The rising temperatures has caused polar bears to lose habitat and are forcing them to move downward to search for alternative food sources. As a result, polar bears will become extinct because of their hunting habits, their meat based diet, and competition with the grizzly bear. The polar bear is in danger of becoming extinct largely due to to the fact that the warm weather is giving them an insufficient amount of time to hunt. According to the article Polar Bear , Polar bears can only survive in areas where the oceans freeze, allowing them to hunt seals living under, on, or in the frozen polar ice cap. This means, that with the rising temperatures and melting ice caps, polar bears... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They argue that polar bears will survive or evolve. Another counter claim is that the polar bears will evolve and adapt to their environments. Regardless of this, UCLA Biologists say, To people who say polar bears can just change their diet, we are saying they WILL change their diet they will have to but it probably won t be sufficient for them. Even if the polar bear evolves to fit their environment, it will not be adequate, especially with their competition with the grizzlies. Additionally, others say we can stop their extinction by human preservation, but that would still require them to get used to a new environment. Taking all sides into consideration, the polar bear is more likely to become extinct than to evolve or
  • 7. Reflection Of Scientific Language In The Poetry Of Juliana... Another poet that one can argue fits into this subsection of thought is Juliana Spahr, whose various collections such as Nuclear, Responses, and this connection of everyone with lungs are illustrative of the methods and means of modern women writers, and the unwavering enquiry of knowledge that all those I have mentioned exhibit. Within this connection of everyone with lungs Spahr utilises scientific language, and methods to further a thematic notion of the errors in exceptionalist thinking, that is the belief that something, someone or event, is exceptional in some manner. This collection focuses on the events of 9/11 as cellular rupture and the arguably unique ability of poetryto reflect on the external within its frame to reach a catharsis and epistemic understanding of the conditions of modernity. In this use of scientific language and her reliance on scientific knowledge and explanations to confer meaning she arguably falls into a position of consilience. Like other modern poets, Spahr focuses on biological linguistical systems and exploration; this is evidenced from the onset of the long poem There are these things: / cells, the movement of cells and the division of cells. In this opening section of Poem Written after September 11, 2001 Spahr is immediately forming an image of unification, each individual cell, is part of the movement of cells which is part of the larger system of general beating of circulation and skin that surrounds, hands, body, feet

So, by July 1900, construction began through the use of architect Charles Strange s drawings. They were selected specifically by the Orange County Board of Supervisors. Successfully, the 1903 deadline was met considering it got completed by 1901 at a cost of $117,000. He was convicted of kidnapping 12 year old Patricia Jean Hull from a movie theater and into his cottage in Buena Park. Not only did he sexually assault her, but killed her. For three years, the media was drawn to his escape of the gas chamber, and was put to death on Feb. 19, 1954 at the age of 36 (ocregister). Agriculture is an important California symbol so it is no surprise that there was a case held at the Old Courthouse about agriculture known as The State of California Vs. The Irvine Company in the 1940s. The Irvine Ranch considered its hundreds of employees as agricultural workers due to the fact that they worked on a ranch. They really did mean all of their workers, even the bookkeepers, cooks, and the rest of the office staff. The State of California sued in 1941 for back taxes after they demanded the company to pay unemployment taxes on all their non agricultural workers. However, the court ruled that majority of the Irvine s employees were agricultural workers by 1942. Aside from cases, the Old Courthouse has appeared in a variety of movies and TV shows. The earliest movie and TV shows that were shot in or around the courthouse include: The File on Thelma Jordan (1950), Twilight of Honor (1963),

The Effect of Gibberellic Acid on Wild Type and Rosette Brassica rapa Plants Intro This experiment was performed to test two hypotheses concerning the plant hormone gibberellic acid and a mutant rosette shaped phenotype of the plant Brassica rapa. This experiment was done in order to test the effects o gibberellic acid on plants and its effect on rosette shaped complexes. The two hypotheses in this experiment are as follows: Hypothesis number one states that Gibberellic acid allows for stem elongation in plants. Hypothesis number two. The rosette complex in the rosette phenotype plant contains less gibberellic acid naturally and therefore grows shorter. These not only affect the plant in their specific ways, they also have different effects when they are present in certain ratios with the other chemicals. Plant hormones maintain a delicate balance, and this experiment serves to observe that balance (Campbell and Reese, 2008). There were two types of plants used. Both were of the same species, Brassica rapa but two of the plants contained rosette shaped complexes that were deficient in producing gibberellic acid compared to the wild type plants. Therefore, they grew smaller and shorter as a phenotype. The Brassicaceae family includes cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, and many others. ( Hypothesis The hypothesis behind this experiment is that the Gibberellic acid has a positive growth effect on the plant and causes it grow larger in height. Materials and Methods The experiment was begun by obtaining four 8 oz. Styrofoam cups and punching a hole through the bottom of them. This hole was for water entry or excess water drainage. • 11. A Brief Note On The Ethics Of Placebo 1.The Ethics of Placebo. In medical field, it is quite interesting considering how the brain works and the power of mind perception that can affect the overall body. In this case, placebos are examples that justify this. Placebos are mainly given to a patient to ease the pain and to satisfy their desire of wanting to receive a medical care or treatments or plainly just the desire of the doctor to help. Regarding to whether patient should be informed or not, I think that informing a patient is not obligatory when prescribing a placebo. Scientifically, it is proven that the use of placebo in treating some diseases seems to work effectively with or without deception. Kaptchuk et al. (2010) reported that nearly 60% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome felt better after knowingly consuming placebos (in the form of sugar pills) comparing to 35% of patients without such medication. But if we take an insight look at the research, even though the patients know about the placebo, the researchers however, also added that it has shown to promote or generate a self healing processes related to mind body connection. This implicates that it might not be the placebo itself that cause such placebo effects but how it is given in terms of addressing the message to the patients. In other words, they implanted a suggestion to the patients that even though it is just a sugar pill but it is proven to be useful that made patients became more convinced that it has the same effect as the actual
  • 12. Nixon s Presidency A Period Wrought With Scandal Nixon s presidency a period wrought with scandal. The most well known of these, Watergate, a complex web of deceit, has become a political term synonymous with corruption and crime. Afraid of possible defeat in the 1972 election, Nixon and his republican associates sanctioned underhanded, illegal, acts, namely a break in at the Democratic Party national headquarters at the Watergate complex. The break in failed and the story was revealed to the public, despite the Nixon administration s attempts to cover up the scandal. As a result of their insistence on covering up the infamous event, the leadership of the United States was sent spiraling into a mess of treachery and dishonesty, threatening both the nation s stability and future. Beginning the night of June 16, 1972, and continuing on into the wee hours of the morning on June 17, Nixon and his seven associate burglars G. Gordan Liddy, E. Howard Hunt, James McCord, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, Eugenio Martinez, and Frank Sturgis attempted to break in to the Watergate complex in Washington, D.C., headquarters of the Democratic National Committee, with the intent to use phone bugs and photos to provide Nixon, a Republican, with information that would hopefully secure him the victory in the 1972 presidential election (Anderson 8 10). To begin, the burglars placed tape on stairway doors, preventing them from locking, allowing them to make an easy exit, the first of many mistakes (Cruden 16). Armed with walkie talkies and

A recorded discussion in 1972 verified that Nixon and Hardeman communicated to try to hide the conspiracy from further investigation. After the whole Watergate incident other illegal events were also revealed. For example, the plumbers , a White House assembly, were doing everything in their power to prevent media from gathering information. Most of the media though did not understand the consequences of the Watergate scandal, so they focused on reporting on other things that were related to the 1972 election. After the exposure that one of the condemned intruders wrote to Judge, the media turned its focused. The popular magazine, Time Magazine, defined Nixon as experiencing daily hell and very little trust . Mainly everyone had a different perception of politics after this scandal, including America. • 14. The Effects Of Resveratrol And Its Effect On The Risk Of... ABSTRACT Resveratrol (3,4 ,5 trihydroxystilbene) is a naturally occurring phytochemical present in red wine, grapes, berries, chocolate and peanuts. Clinically, resveratrol has exhibited significant antioxidant, anti inflammatory, anti viral, and anti cancer properties. Although resveratrol was first isolated in 1940, it was not until the last decade that it was recognised for its potential therapeutic role in reducing the risk of neurodegeneration, and Alzheimer s disease (AD) in particular. AD is the primary cause of progressive dementia. Resveratrol has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in several in vitro and in vivo models of AD. Apart from its potent antioxidant and anti inflammatory roles, evidence suggests that resveratrol also facilitates non amyloidogenic breakdown of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), and promotes removal of neurotoxic amyloid beta (AОІ) peptides, a critical step in preventing and slowing down AD pathology. Resveratrol also reduces damage to neuronal cells via a variety of additional mechanisms, most notably is the activation of NAD+ dependent histone deacetylases enzymes, termed sirtuins. However in spite of the considerable advances in clarifying the mechanism of action of resveratrol, it is unlikely to be effective as monotherapy in AD due to its poor bioavailability, biotransformation, and requisite synergism with other dietary factors. This review summarizes the relevance of resveratrol in the pathophysiology of AD. It also highlights

Although it is inevitable to keep their children from all infectious diseases, parents can greatly reduce the chances of contracting them. Young children, especially infants and toddlers, have an increased chance of infections because they use their hands to explore objects and other children and then frequently wipe their noses and mouths where viruses can enter. Healthychildren.org (2014) states that most children that attend child care facilities and schools have as many as 8 to 12 colds a year along with a few episodes of nausea, diarrhea and vomiting. Symptoms of the flu, like vomiting and diarrhea, can cause severe fluid volume deficit in young children and can lead to life threatening complications. There are several available educational guides and teaching tools published for parents to use as resources in the prevention and management of diseases contracted in child care facilities especially influenza. Money And Price Level Essay CHAPTER TWO LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Introduction The relationship between money supply and price level is very influential topic in the field of macroeconomic literature, which has received greater attention among government agencies, policy makers and researchers. This topic has been continuously discussed in the economic society since 16th century. The general price level of every economy is being continuously reported to be high from 16th century to present 21st century except some years. These higher price levels compelled the economists to carry out the study on whether over money supply are responsible to cause inflation or there are any other reasons responsible for high price or inflation. The economists have spent a lot of time in finding the causes of higher prices in the economy and reached the conclusion that higher prices are caused by different factors like unnecessary money supply, higher income, high wage rate, scarcity of commodities, increase in cost of production, international reasons, institutional factors etc. However, unnecessary and over money supply has been taken as the influential factor responsible to cause inflation or higher price in the economy by most of the economists in the world. Any economy should bear the high social and economic cost of inflation as there is no price stability. Over the past two decades, the policy makers are much worried with the instability of prices keeping in mind of the negative influences of rising price level in the
  • 18. Analysis Of The Poem Easter On Easter Monday, April 24, 1916, members of the Irish Volunteers and the Irish Citizen Army occupied Dublin s General Post Office, and from its steps, Patrick Pearse read a proclamation of the Irish Republic. The British military responded with force, and the Easter Rising, as it became known, came to an end with the rebels surrender on April 29. In England at the time, W. B. Yeats learned about the Rising mostly through newspapers and through letters from his friend and patroness, Lady Gregory. As the British forces imposed martial law and, in early May, executed fifteen of the Rising s leaders, some of whom Yeats knew personally, the events in Ireland moved Yeats to begin writing the poem which became Easter, 1916. On May 11, Yeats wrote to Lady Gregory that he had received a letter from his long time muse Maud Gonne, who had written from France with the belief that the revolutionaries had raised the Irish cause again to a position of tragic dignity (White 372). He went on to relate his own attempts to interpret recent events: I am trying to write a poem on the men executed terrible beauty has been born again. (Wade 613). The phrase terrible beauty, with its initial t and final ty, seems to echo Gonne s tragic dignity, though the negatively charged terrible strains against beauty, making Yeats s phrase more ambivalent than Gonne s. A genetically modified organism is living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. Although some see this as a bad thing, I personally feel that GMOs are safe and should be used routinely. Corn for example, is something that is used daily in the study of genetic modifications. One large example of the genetic modification is Bt corn. Corn has been around for many years and has served many useful purposes for humans. About eighty million acres are growing with corn crops (Capehart 1), Corn is an ingredient in a multitude of food and manufactured products such as starch, sweeteners, corn oil, drinking and rubbing alcohol (Capehart 1). The first genetically modified corn crop was planted in the United States in 1996 (Thomson 20). From 1996 to present day, the presence of genetically modified corn has increased considerably. The production of Bt corn occurs in five steps. The first step is removing the desired gene from the organism. This step is a highly restrictive step due to the inadequate amount of information known about certain genes needed to enhance the genetic makeup of plants (Romero 1). Two main functions involved in this step are restriction enzymes and DNA ligase (Romero 1). The DNA ligase puts the DNA fragments back together. The second step is cloning the desired gene. Zeus, the God of Gods, controls what he can of the Gods, but most of them behave as if they are above his authority. The Iliad begins with Zeus reflection of Greek s belief that man is in the grip of forces that he cannot control. As the story goes on, Achilles comes to the realization that men control their destiny by their actions. Achilles chooses the short life with glory over a long life without glory. But Achilles soon comes to realize that he is not in control where he is spoken by Hera through his horse telling that Yes! We will save your life this time too master, mighty Achilles! But the day of death already hovers hear, and we are not to be blamed, but a great god is and the strong force of fate. (19, 483 486) No matter

Individuals are now adopting a consciously self constructed persona that is similar to brands or celebrities and is presented to an audience. Social media platforms are dominating the web and have transformed it into a network of personal brands competing to achieve an online status. What is Branding? Branding is most commonly known as a form of marketing practice that links a company s product and services to cultural meanings. According to Rashid (2012), brands have become one of the most discussed phenomena of marketing research in recent years. Brands are not simply a symbol on a product or a mere graphic but a company s signature on constantly renewed creative process that yields various products. While products can live and disappear, the brand remains alive. The consistency of this creative process is what gives a brand its meaning and characters. Logos have also become an increasingly important element of a brand in today s mass market economy as a means of differentiation. A Report On Tigers Delight Zachary Oakley Professor Krueger ENG 201 3 February 2016 Tigers Delight The largest tiger in the world has been measured at over ten feet long and over six hundred and sixty pounds! Tigers are apart of the cat family and are known to be the largest feline in the bunch. Within just the tiger species there are nine different subspecies and three of which are already extinct. Their differences are not as drastic in appearance like other animals, such as dogs for example, but they still noticeable to the trained eye. All tiger subspecies are currently classified as being endangered but there are many actions being taken to help keep the current surviving species from going extinct. Most tigers in nature live to be ten to fifteen years old. Tigers by nature are carnivores and are only found in nature in one continent on earth, which is Asia. Unlike most cats tiger enjoy swimming and spend the majority of the hot summer days resting in rivers or lakes. OneKind.org is an animal relief organization and they explain that tiger s roar can carry more than 2 km and they are most active hunters at night (OneKind). Knowing information about the six living subspecies of tigers and their differences, whether it be physical make up or social habits, and what organizations are out there and what they are doing to help the endangered species, is a brilliant start to having a well rounded knowledge of tigers. Like all mammals tigers grow up, but what s unique to tigers that is different

However, with the advent of the personal vehicle, trucks, and aviation, the railroad began to decline (Gallamore Meyer, 2014). Therefore, one might question why Warren Buffett purchased Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for $26.5 billion dollars. However, years after the $26.5 billion dollars was spent, no one would question the investment as its revenue has since risen 57% and has become a main source of income for Warren Buffetts company, Berkshire Hathaway (Buhayar, 2014). There are a few reasons how Warren Buffett saw this growth coming and capitalized. Mr. Buffett has throughout his years of life seen a steady growth in our nation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Refined oil is the number one product within the United States (Reed, 2010). Furthermore, the means to shipping oil around the country is rail (O Malley, 2014). Thus, Warren Buffets purchase of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad company makes sense. This can be explained by the fact that according to Warren Buffett, the shipment of oil via rail is a cheaper, positive alternative to pipelines (O Malley, 2014). Warren Buffett s purchase of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad shows that Mr. Buffett believes that as hauling via truck becomes more costly due to rising oil prices, a cheap rail system will be preferred (Foroohar, 2012). The reason that rail is a cheap means of shipment is simple, rail uses less fuel to travel. This is evident in the fact that a rail system can haul one ton of goods 500 miles on just one gallon of fuel (O Malley, 2014). One would be hard pressed to find a trucking company that could boast the same. Thus, as fuel prices rise, rail would become more viable. Warren Buffett has personally been quoted stating this by mentioning that energy prices will rise within the United States, allowing his railroad venture to grow more over time (Foroohar, 2012). Furthermore, as pipelines remain controversial and a slow means of shipping oil, rail can solve the problem via expediting oil shipments around the country (O Malley,

As the majority of us learn as we age, this idea of perfection is unobtainable. The older we get, the more we tend to accept the flaws and imperfections that make us individuals. However, there are others who never learn the hard lesson of acceptance. Instead they spend ridiculous amounts of money on surgeries, creams and concoctions in order to rid themselves of these marks and insecurities. It s a constant battle, a fork in the road if you may, between science and nature. On one side there s the high road of nature and acceptance, and on the other there s the scientific shortcut that, in reality, just continues to mask the original problem. The Birthmark leads us to believe that this is perhaps a topic Hawthorne struggled with himself. Hawthorne clearly displays his decided distaste for science and its unnatural ways in his short story, The Birthmark. Aylmer, the main character of the story, is a brilliant scientist/alchemist. He possesses a belief in man s ultimate control over nature , and thinks there is nothing man can t overcome (Harun). His obsession with his wife Georgiana s small birth mark, which resembles a hand, begins after they re married. Aylmer is fixated with the idea of Georgiana s perfection; he believes that in order for him to experience perfect love, he must have a perfect woman to love (Norman). Alcohol dependent mice that were given Ivermectin where found to drink almost 50 percent less alcohol than those who were not given the drug. This significant and promising finding could see the medical profession moving away from current abstinence based treatment programs, which have success rates of less than 10 percent, towards such a program that allows alcoholics to enjoy a drink or two but be able to stop at that. However, while successful in curbing alcohol consumption in mice trials, the drug has yet to be trialed on humans. This poses two issues; firstly while the drug is FDA approved it is currently used at most two or three times per year in humans, for the treatment of parasitic infections. However, alcoholism is a chronic disease, therefore in order for the drug to be effective, it would need to be taken daily. Secondly, while the drug has been successful in altering the drinking patterns of mice, it might not prove to have the same success in

  • 37. Functionalist Perspective Of Education The opening to chapter 13 begins with the experiences of various families that have different problems with education that led them to the conclusion of homeschooling. Education contributes to what is known as the credential society that we have today, as the degrees earned in education determine jobs that people are eligible for. The certification that education provides a person is used as evidence that the individual is capable of certain tasks and has certain skills. The more developed a nation, the more extensive an education that they provide their people, and this trend is seen across Most Industrialized, Industrializing, and Least Industrialized Nations. Education is seen in many different perspectives, especially amongst sociologists. Functionalists focus on the major functions that education serves, such as teaching of knowledge and skills, cultural transmission of values, social integration, social placement, and mainstreaming. The conflict perspective, on the other hand, focuses on how education reproduces the social class structure through unequally funding and having schools exclusive to the elite. This is while the symbolic interactionist s perspective focuses on the interaction of the classroom and how student performance typically conforms to the expectations that the teacher has over them. Like everything else in the world, education isn t perfect by far, as there are many problems, such as mediocrity, grade inflation, social promotion, fake data, and

They resemble us just enough to make all their differences confusing, and no matter what we choose to make of this, we are cast in relation to them our whole lives long. said American author Susan Scarf Merrell. Siblings are very similar to each other, and are bound by blood and proximity. Despite this, they are their own person, they influence each other so much, but are different in how they act and appear, if only minisculely. Siblingrivalry is just another conflict of differences. Despite how close siblings are to one another, and being raised by the same parents, older and younger siblings exhibit many differences in the personality of each other that set them apart. Older siblings are, like younger siblings, born of the same parentand are usually raised in similar ways. Older siblings fight with their younger siblings in what s called sibling rivalry. Older siblings can tease, physically fight, and compete to gain their parents and guardians affections. Another similarity is the role of development. An older sibling s way of thinking might translate to a younger sibling. Older siblings are the elder children of a couple, and as such, follow more in the footsteps of their parents. They are more oftenly introverted and serious. This is most likely due to the lack of closely related peers and can also be the case in only children. The older a sibling is, the more resources they had access to, usually leading to increased height and build.

This chemical is used as a preservative, and is deemed safe for consumption under specific levels.5 Figure 1. The structure of caffeine and benzoic acid with their molecular weights and formulas. Many manufactures release the caffeine content of their products publically, but not always, and new products and flavors are continuously introduced to the market. If quality checks are not performed, manufactures may alter the caffeine and benzoic acid content to suit the demands without public knowledge. To ensure the levels of caffeine and benzoic acid in products do not exceed the established safe limits and to inform the public of the amount of these compounds being consumed, various methods of analysis have been performed. Before the introduction of modern techniques, spectrophotometric methods alone were used to determine concentration of a compound in a mixture.6 The caffeine content in coffee, tea, soft drink, and energy drinks were determined using an immunoassay.7 The caffeine content in mixtures also used to have to be extracted before quantification.8 In this study, the use of an HPLC instrument with a UV/Vis detector to determine concentration of caffeine and benzoic acid in an unknown solution mixture will be evaluated by its ability to calculate these concentrations in Mountain Dew. In healthy adolescents, basal cortisol levels were highest in the morning and dropped rapidly throughout the day with troughs around midnight. Although equine involved programs have become increasingly popular over the last decade, prior to this article no research has been published on the effects that horses have on human development and emotional wellbeing. The experiment was conducted over an eleven week period with students from different schools, fifth through eighth grade, in a rural university town in the Pacific Northwest area of the United States (Pendry et al., 2014). Subject referrals came from school counselors who had been treating students for academic and/or behavioral issues. The group of students participating included forty one males and seventy two females with an average age of eleven years. Participants were predominantly Caucasian or Hispanic. Analysis Of Oedipus The King And Antigone Meghana Aghi October 6th, 2014 AP English Mr. Shaffner Matriarchal Madness Women have been silenced for generations upon generations, their voices of reason stripped away and locked inside the caves of submissiveness. The key is thrown out into a vast ocean of misery and peril, and the hope to break free slowly diminishes. Yet, there are always those women who will never accept their expected place in society. These women try to break down those barriers in attempts to leave an imprint on this ever changing world. In civilizations such as Athens, women were looked down upon and this battle to leave behind tradition proved to be almost if not fatal. Sophocles Oedipus the King and Antigone exemplify three distinct female Athenian characters who approach this battle with different fronts. Through analysis of Ismene, Antigone and Jocasta s distinct characters, the reader better understands how Sophocles uses a feminine voice to break away from the tradition discerned in Athenian life to advocate for the rise of a matriarchal influence. Ismene s emotional facade overpowers her drive for defeating corruption, which prompts her to plead for mercy rather than demand justice. Sophocles uses Ismene s character to serve as the expected Athenian woman, one without a voice in society. Yet, Sophocles tries to break away from this mold, illustrating the effect of a silenced woman through Ismene s personality. Essentially, Ismene s inferiority as a woman paralyzes her, and therefore,
