Miranda K. Walker. An Analysis Of The Exert For Environmental
Miranda K. Walker An Analysis of the Exert for Environmental Justice in Ecuador
Introduction Ecuador s quest for environmental justice, subsequent to oil extraction, is a noxious
consequence of colonialism. Through principles and the aftermath of colonialism, a dependence on
resource extraction has proven detrimental to Ecuador s indigenous population, only profiting a
select few. This very act demonstrates a need for ecological democracy, a demand for the just
treatment of the indigenous, and an inherent disfunction of capitalism. These conditions have
nurtured, and validated, the idea of a resource curse; as resource rich Ecuador is worse off than
countries without commodities like oil. Specifically, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the early 17th century, there were around 500 Spanish estates in Ecuador where Native
Ecuadorians were enslaved. The Spaniards profited the most off of Ecuador s coastal economy,
revolved around shipping and trade. This was until the fall of the Ecuadorian economy in the
18th century, attributed to the expulsion of the Jesuits by King Charles III of Spain as missions
were abandoned. Between 1700 and 1800, textile production dropped around 50 75%. As a
result, Ecuador s diminished into ruins, and even its elite fell into poverty. During the end of
the colonial era, Spain s Bourbon monarchs developed a new approach to promote colonial
development. Once Charles III declared a decree of free trade, thus expanding the number of
ports in South America that were permitted to trade amongst themselves or with any port in
Spain from six to twenty four, the region s economy bettered. However, it would never fully
recover from the fall of the textile industry. In 1976, after a Texaco Gulf consortium discovered
mass amount of oil in the Oriente, the construction of a 312 mile long pipe line was
commissioned. The pipe line was gradually transferred to state ownership during the 1970s and
1980s, and for the first time in Ecuador s history, from its new ability to tax private foreign
petroleum companies, the government had its own economic independence and source of revenue,
and created free market policies, dubbing neoliberalism. Its economic growth

epigrams and dark humor of graffiti. These have been executed in the distinctive stenciling method.
Therefore, the paper analyzes how Banksy has changed the people s view of graffiti as being
vandalism to a form of controversial political issues using street art. The name Banksy has
ignited controversy and piqued curiosity. He is undoubtedly one of the famous and most
controversial street artists who has emerged on the global stage. The fact that the identity Banksy
remains unknown after more than twenty years on the graffiti scene improves the intrigue that
surrounds most of his work. There are various artworks of Banksy that have appeared in,
Canada, England, America, Australia, France, Palestine and Israel and Jamaica. His pictorial, as

Perseverance In First Job By Illiana Roman
Perseverance is a mandatory quality to possess. As a matter of fact, perseverance is a blend of
spirit and determination. This skill instills motivation and drive into the hearts of others. One does
not require special talents or great knowledge to be a vessel in which this quality can be observed.
In her essay, First Job, Illiana Roman illustrates a life filled with hard work and perseverance
through anecdotes, wordchoice, and sentence structure.
Roman began by revealing that she dropped out of school at the age of seventeen due to
pregnancy. For the next four years she lived with her boyfriend and had two more children.
However, this all concluded when her boyfriend quit his job and began drinking. She knew that
the relationship needed to end. Roman returned to live with her father and went back and
received her GED. She did not stop there, she continued on to attend business classes at a
community college. During this time, Roman worked at a sporting goods store, where she
learned many skills such as balancing books, customer service and other related activities;
however, she was forced to quit this job so she could attend cosmetology school. While in
cosmology school, she worked at a car dealership, where he learned that she possessed a talent in
working with customers. Once she received her license in cosmetology, her father helped her buy
and renovate a salon. She now runs that business with the skills she acquired throughout her
previous jobs and experiences. Roman aspires to be a role model for her community and her
children. Currently, she intends on perusing a vocation in the realty business and hiring a manager
to run her salon. She encourages others to work hard and never stop learning. The most prevalent
method Roman utilizes to convey her message is through anecdotes; in fact, she both begins and
concludes her essay with this method. Anecdotes effectively convey her perseverance and hard
work, since the reader receives an intimate view of her life as a whole. The reader is either told
outright a mandatory factor in her life or he/she can create an inference. The stories she provides
helps to clarify her points. The reader is informed that she is an America/Puerto Rican, high school

Trip To Uganda Research Paper
I am interested in traveling to Uganda because I believe that the trip will give me the
opportunity to learn, give, teach, grow, and look at the world in a completely different light.
Being around those who are less fortunate than I am will enable me to learn how different people
live in different ways, because here, in Vernon Hills, we take basic necessities for granted, like
food, water, shelter, and education. By exposing myself to a worldwithout some of these things, I
hope to learn no longer take anything for granted. By giving them my time and exposing them to
my education, I hope to expand their horizons, as well as my own, and encourage them to be the

Ever since I took computer science honors over the summer and am in AP computer science now,
I have developed a liking in computer science and what can be done with it. I believe that this
can help us to the best of our advantage to try to help these people: I could make a website with
stories, pictures, and videos that could help convey to an audience about how impacting my trip
was, and with that, I could raise awareness and start a charity that would donate money to the
people of Africa, which they could utilize to buy basic necessities such as food, water, and
shelter, and possibly further their education. The website would be publicized through my social
media accounts, and also event programs, which brings me to my other idea. I am part of the
computer science club at school and am currently planning a coding event for younger children
at our public library, and if it goes well, we will have more events like that. I was thinking that
we could could have a charity fundraiser at this computer science event, where all the funds
would go directly to our sister school in Africa. Also at the event, I could have a slideshow and
talk about my experiences so that the people will know why they should donate and where

The House of Bernarda Alba Essay
The House of Bernarda Alba Federico Garcia Lorca was born in 1898 and died in 1936, he lived
through one of the most troubling times of Spain s history. He grew up in Granada, Spain, and
enjoyed the lifestyle and countryside of Spain. His father was a wealthy farmer and his mother
was a school teacher and encouraged his love of literature, art, and music. He was an extremely
talented man. A respectable painter, a fine pianist, and an accomplished writer. He was close
friends with some of Spain s most talented people, including musician Manuel de Falla, and painter
Salvador Dali. Lorcawas a very liberal man who lived un dictatorship for most of his life. However,

Not only can she not have Pepe, but she can t have any man. She must stay in mourning and take
care of her mother until she dies. Bernarda is a nasty, mean, unsympathetic lady, and having to
spend all your time loced up with her for the rest of her life is about as bad a punishment as I can
think of. The meetings with Pepe continue until inevitably, things start to get out of hand. The
sisters tell Bernarda that Pepe has been coming and staying late at night, and Angustias insists
that it s not with her. One night, Bernarda catches Adela with straw on her skirt and realizes that
she has been out with him. Bernarda goes out and shoots at Pepe. She shoots at him, but as
Bernarda says herself, It was my fault. A woman can t aim. Adela believes that Pepe has been
shot and kills herself. All things considered, I can t blame her at all, in fact, I very well may
have done the same. The only other woman in the town to have an affair, Paca la Roseta, came

she had become impregnated. Adela was in alomst the exact same boat, as we find out that she
too was pregnant, however with Pepe s child, and her punishment would be similar to that of Paca

that she would never be able to have a life with Pepe, the man she loved with all of her heart.

My School Experience Essay
For my curriculum placement I was at Granger Elementary School in Agawam MA. I got the
opportunity to work in a special ed classroom with the wonderful Mrs. Alvord. My field
experience this semester I would say has to be my favorite placement yet. Some of the reasons
why this is my best placement yet is because first I absolutely love my teacher, the kids have
been awesome, and working with them has been so much fun and rewarding. My beliefs about
teaching learning were confirmed as a result of this experience with my teacher and the
classroom environment. My beliefs that I have had in mind for my future classroom that was
confirmed in my placement right now is 1) Creating a classroom environment where everyone is
included and treated the exact same way, 2) Getting the time to know your students interests in
and outside of the school/classroom, and 3) Installing a love for learning in the classroom. My
teacher has created a comfortable classroom environment where I noticed she treats every
student the same way and is a believer in all types of inclusion. I have seen her take the time to
personally connect with the student and their interests that are involved inside and outside the
classroom. Since it is a small group of children she works she said it isn t very hard getting to
know the students on a personal level. My teacher has installed a love for learning by
incorporating lessons based off of students interests, she gives all her students positive feedback and

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay
You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern
one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied
too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)
estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD(Simmons, RG.
1993).
Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive
restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those
children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991).
Today most psychologists agree that the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Still others may get lost in the directions along the way. A careful observer can watch and see
where the attention process breaks down for a particular child.
Symptoms of inattention, as listed in the DSM IV, are:
Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in schoolwork, or other
activities
Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities
Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the
workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand instructions)
Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort (such as
schoolwork or homework)
Often loses things necessary for tasks or activities (e.g., toys, school assignments, pencils, books, or
tools)
Often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli
Often forgetful in daily activities (Soar, R.S. Soar, R.M. 1993)
What causes ADHD?
ADHD is a neurobiologically based developmental disability estimated to affect between 3 5
percent of the school age population (Panksepp, J. 1998). No one knows exactly what causes
ADHD. Scientific evidence suggests that the disorder is genetically transmitted in many cases and
results from a chemical imbalance

What Is The Mood Of Frank Romero Painting Going To The...
In Frank Romero painting Going to the Olympics, 1984. Im going to be telling you guys what
kind of mood his painting was and how it transformed over time. In my opinion on Frank
Romero s painting means that we love our cars and our cars mean a lot to us. I say this because
our cars get us to places we like to go. In his painting he drew some cars and painted a heart on
top of each car. In the other image it basically shows his painting didn t mean anything to other
people because years later they tagged on his painting. Also in the other image they covered his
painting with another layer of cement. In this paragraph I m going to be talking about how
Frank Romero might feel about our city s car culture and also about the mood of the painting.
Frank might love his car a lot because that s what his painting symbolizes and his painting means
a lot to him but not only to him , maybe it also means a lot to other people. The mood in this
pictures feels like he was very happy because of the hearts and of the colors. The bright colors
shows a lot because most likely bright colors symbolizes happiness. Also it seemed like he loved
his painting and i say this because when he saw that they covered his painting he got upset.... Show

painting with another layer of cement wall. That really shows no one cared about his painting years
later when it was

Clockwork Orange Nadsat
Imagine a violence filled society where young gangsters run rampant and crime is at every corner.
A Clockwork Orange, by Anthony Burgess, presents a futuristic society where ordinary people find
themselves the targets of violent crime. Among these gangsters is fifteen year old Alex and his
band of droogs. Alexand his gang of troublemakers spend their days robbing and beating up
innocent men and women they encounter, all while assuming they are invincible to the
consequences that could come. However, Alex s actions catch up with him one day when he is
imprisoned for assaulting a woman. While incarcerated, Alex is the test subject of an experiment
intended to revoke his love of violence. The experiment is successful; however, it revokes not...

Upon first reading the novel, one may find it difficult to understand Alex s slang heavy language.
This language, known as Nadsat, represents a Russian influence in Alex s society. Burgess was
able to hear the language spoken first hand upon traveling to the Soviet Union. There, he was able
to refine a simple yet plausible Slavic vocabulary... to revise and complete A Clockwork Orange
(Biswell 238). Nadsat is mainly spoken by teen troublemakers, such as Alex, because it cannot
be understood by mainstream society. The language, in a way, also encourages violence with
unique derogatory terms regarding women and rape (Goh 1). Upon understanding the language
spoken by Alex, one can further understand his actions and the way in which he is influenced by
his surroundings and the rest of society. Goh continues to explain how the use of language in this
novel makes a statement about the individual s (Alex s) struggle... for authenticity under
dystopian conditions of social control (1). This so called social control is consistent with what
Burgess may have seen in the Soviet Union and presents a motive for the way he portrayed the
government in the novel. As Alex speaks, the reader can infer that he has been given no choice
but to become the vicious criminal that he is. This, in turn, makes the reader feel a certain
sympathy towards him despite the despicable nature of his crimes. Also creating a unique theme
of sympathy is the use of Alex as a first person narrator. As a first person narrator, one can see Alex
s innermost thoughts and experience life as he lives it. Alex often describes his crimes in a
humorous and intimate manner, as stated in the article A Clockwork Orange (1). John Tilton
further continues this idea by explaining how Burgess creates emotion in Alex through his poetic
language

Macroeconomic Policies And Regulate The Healthy Operation...
The government plays an important role in the national economy. Through the formulation of
macroeconomic policies and regulate the healthy operation of the national economy.
There are four main economic theory tells us government to achieve macroeconomic objectives:
price stability, full employment, sustainable and balanced economic growth and balance of
international payments. In addition, inflation, unemployment and economic growth are the big
macroeconomic issues of our time. In this essay we focus on inflation and unemployment.
Unemployment occurs when a person who is actively searching for employment is unable to find
work. Unemployment is often used as a measure of the health of the economy. The most frequently
cited measure of unemployment is the unemployment rate. This is the number of unemployed
persons divided by the number of people in the labor force (Unemployment, INVESTOPEDIA,
2010)1. number of unemployed Unemployment rate = * 100 labor force There are three main types
of unemployment: cyclical unemployment, frictional unemployment and structural unemployment.

They are known as convective storms. Cell thunderstorms form in regions where limited vertical
wind shear is present. The winds direction or speeds do not abruptly change rapidly. Ordinary
storms develop and mature through a cycle, as cell thunderstorms don t have this development.
Different conditions vary from warm air rising, random turbulent eddies and terrain. These are a
few that can be a trigger to these more impactful storms.
4. Where do thunderstorms form most frequently in the US? Why is this the case? Is this also
where most tornadoes occur? Explain. The most area that gets thunderstorms more frequently is
the Gulf Coast. This area includes all of Florida, to include parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi
and Louisiana. We also find that, in summer along the Gulf Coast, a thick layer of warm, moist air
extends upward from the surface (Ahrens, 2015, p.303). This also makes a point that more storms
consuming Hail are located in the Great Plains. Thunderstorms typically form more in the tropical
latitude, which makes the gulf coast a prime location. The two areas that tornados occur most is the
Tornado Alley and the Dixie Alley. Tornado Alley stretches from Central Texas to Nebraska, as
Dixie Alley over Mississippi to Alabama. The Central Plains region is most susceptible to tornadoes
because it often provides the proper atmospheric setting for the development of the severe
thunderstorms that spawn tornadoes

The Wednesday Wars Analysis
Normal life is not an option with a ferocious 30 year war going on, and it is no easier if it takes
place on the other side of the world in Vietnam. The Wednesday Wars searches through the ideas of
boundaries by using the life of a normal boy, Holling Hoodhood, to show the feelings of growing
up in the midst of the Vietnam War. Holling has to learn how to grow up and explore his
relationships and ultimately find himself. Throughout the novelThe Wednesday Wars, Holling
examines the boundaries of war through his experiences with his father, Ms. Baker, and his
readings of Shakespeare all develop the theme of comfort, independence, and masks.

Baker. Throughout Holling s year, he reads The Merchant of Venice, The Tempest, Macbeth,
Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, and Much Ado
About Nothing. In each of these plays, Holling learns something about humanity and war which
helps him grow and mature. In the beginning, Holling thinks that Ms. Baker is out for revenge
because she is stuck with him every Wednesday. He thinks that it is all because he is a
Presbyterian. However, reading Shakespeare with Ms. Baker taught him about mercy, love, hate,
and revenge. One book he finds to relate to during his readings is Romeo and Juliet. Holling
does not want to end up like his father; he does not want to be like Romeo from Romeo and
Juliet who is called a Fortune s fool. Holling ponders about him and his father and decides that
he will never become like his father and thinks, For the first time, I wondered if it was what he
wanted or if there was a time when he might have wanted something else. Or if I wanted
something else. Or if we were both only Fortune s fools like Romeo (154). Hollings wishes to
choose his own path, and to see what he can do. Here Holling sees that he has to someday strike
out on his own to see the world for himself, without having to follow the deep footprints of his dad

Common complications of meningitis include hearing loss, seizures, pneumonia, and more serious
complications involve the cranial nerves, which would include facial weakness and blindness. It is
recommended that patients with meningitis have a 30 degree head elevation of their beds. CT scan
is a good way to assess the patient s symptoms to rule out skull fractures or congenital abnormalities.
Most of the complications contribute to parenchymal damage and increased intracranial pressure.
As these patient s bodies try to fight the infection, seizures can be a result. Fluid cannot be drained
properly which increase sodium levels in the brain. Seizures can be managed with anticonvulsant

complication is facial weakness and blindness, which is the outcome of inflammation of the

Max Weber And His Contributions
Phala Monte
Ms. Berner
SYG 2000 01Z
7 June 2015
Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was considered as one
of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many ideas that profoundly influenced
social theory and social research. For sociology as a whole, Weber s study of sociology is
theoretical historical, because he had the idea of rationalization based on his observations from the
Protestant Work Ethic and other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the
development of one of the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had
supported the view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the
individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society. Weber had
changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical perspective, based on his
contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in
Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch 735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of
humanitarian and religious convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal
parliamentary deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid
attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist ideas and
methodology (Winch 735). Later, he engaged in the University of Heidelberg to study law, then he
transferred to the University

Tutankhamun was born a prince in Egypt s royal court around the year 1341 BC. His father was

father died. Tutankhamun was born to one of his father s lesser wives and not to his main wife,

had only daughters, but desperately wanted to have a son of her own to take over the throne. At the
young age of seven years old Tutankhamuns father died. A few years later Tutankhamun married his
sister (which was common for Pharaohs in Ancient Egypt) and became Pharaoh. Since he was so
young he had help ruling the country. The real rulers were a powerful general named

Response:
Zara takes a no bells and whistle approach to the technology used outside of the manufacturing
(ex. use of technology in the fabric cutting) side of their business. They have been very
successful with their reactive supply chain process and do not have to rely of tends and
forecasting because of their Corporate Mandate to produce low quality (10 wears) high fashion

Because of my support of Michael and Janeen Damian and their amazing movie High Strung, I
have become aware of many other magnificent musicians and artists in the business, and Keith

heard in the movie and soundtrack for High Strung, and I was pleased that he took some time to
answer a few questions about his music, his outlook on the business, and even a hint as to his future
aspirations.

How would you describe your style of music?
My style is a cross between pop and adult contemporary. I m often told that my music is catchy
and my lyrics are easily relatable which is the main aim of the music I create.
Where do you get the ideas for your songwriting?
My ideas come from a wide range of places. I like to go through life learning and absorbing as
much as I can. For this reason, I have many thoughts and ideas which I can then translate into
music. Songwriting is a way for me to express myself and definitely an outlet for a lot of what I
am experiencing and feeling.
So how did you get connected with Michael Damian and High Strung?
You could call this The Luck of the Irish. While I was recording the song in a studio in LA, the
producer of the movie, Michael Damian, overheard the song as he just happened to be in the same
studio and knew immediately that the song was a fit for the movie, and my management team
handled it from there.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Terraced Fields
Terraced fields have existed in many ancient human civilizations for thousands of years. They are
ubiquitous; from the Incas to the Chinese, even in Europe, we see terraced fields developed and
used for many purposes. Most terraced fields were constructed for agriculture, but some are
developed to control floods and other purposes.
To this day, we still see some terraced fields around the world, which allows us to admire their
natural beauty. However, while we are admiring the beauty of terraced fields, many seemed to
forget to learn from them in solving our current water problems. Dam constructions have been a
controversial one size fits all solution to many water related problems, yet when I visited Cheng

They found that the terraced fields in the Loess Plateau region results in higher soil moisture while
maintaining soil fertility. This means that plants are able to absorb more water from the soil during
the second crop. In the dry West China, such natural water conservation is significant in helping
farmers grow their plants throughout the year. Terraced fields also tremendously reduced erosionin
the region. Comparing the erosion modulus of regular sloped land and terraced land in the
region, the erosion modulus of terraced land is about 1.8% that of the regular sloped land. This
means that terraced land preserved and improved the soil in the region for sustainable
agriculture. With better and richer soil, agriculture production yield increased dramatically,
which generated a lot of revenue. Since each step of terraced fields are shallower than dams,
they could also become the habitat of many birds. According to the definition of wetlands from
RAMSAR, any body of water, static or flowing, with water depth of less than six meters could be
considered as wetlands. If we follow this definition, then technically terraced fields could be
considered as a collection of wetlands. Although this definition would open the door to many legal
issues dealing with wetlands, which are beyond the scope of this paper, it would give reasons to
wetland conservationists to support building terraced

Security In Australia
Introduction.
Crime, violence and safety are issues that concern the whole world; the increase in crime is a
social phenomenon of great momentousness where victims are usually citizens. On many
occasions of daily life, people find different concepts of the word Security , being undoubtedly well
known related to crime, but the rightful concept can be defined as absence of risk or confidence in
something or someone. However, the term may take different meanings depending on the area or
field to which it refers, generally Security means The state of well being that humans perceive and

The Case Of Ludviga Pukas
What makes someone want to make a change in the world? For some, it is a deep desire to be a
part of something bigger or better than themselves. Yet for others, it is a family connection or
interest that sparks their conscience. For example, when people are moved to do things like adopt
children, something in their heart tells them that she should be a part of something bigger in the
world. That is exactly the case for Ludviga Pukas, a domestic maid from Ukraine. It was her own
morals and faithfulness to her employer that left her to be remembered as one of the hundreds of
thousands of holocaust rescuers (Women of Valor).
In the later 1930s, Ludviga (Nina) Pukas found a job in a town then called Proskurov as a maid
with a mother, Frima Sternik, and her two children, ages four and one. She formed such a bond
with a family that even after she started her own family, she continued to stay with and work for
them. She lived with the family for a few years before the bulk of the war began. Then, on July 7,
1941, the Sternik s had their house and all their possessions burned down to the ground by Germans

They put their own lives on the line to help others being persecuted. Although there is no shortage

children with limited resources in third world countries. Her example can inspire girls like myself
for generations to come as well. Her compassion for children makes me yearn for a time when I

Lava Domes In The Andes Mountains Of South America
Lava domes are classified into five different categories based on their qualities and features that
make them unique. These five lava domes are, Tortas, Peleean, Coulees, Upheaved Plugs, and
Cryptodomes. Each of these domes have their own properties that make them their own category.
Tortas is the first type of lavadome. It received it s name for resembling a cake named tortas . This
dome is common worldwide but is mainly found in the Andes mountains of South America. It s
typically has the appearance of being flat topped and roughly circled. Unlike the other four lava
domes, this dome erupts on flat ground and causes lava to spread outwards at a low range. A
tortas s diameter ranges from a kilometer to a few meters. These domes are also

Organic Extraction Distillation Process With Abe Extraction
ABSTRACT
Conventionally, Butanol is made with the Acetone Butanol Ethanol process using Clostridium
species to ferment sugars from biomass. Conversely, the route is linked with some shortcomings
such as low butanol yield and by product formation (acetone and ethanol). The low productivities
and butanol yields of ABE batch fermentation can be increased by continuous fermentation with
cell recycle and integrated product removal. In order to facilitate an effective and energy efficient
product removal, we suggest to apply a hybrid extraction distillation process with ABE extraction in
an external column.
INTRODUCTION
Butanol (ethyl alcohol) is a four carbon alcohol which has been mainly used as a solvent, chemical
intermediate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The total ABE titer is 15 18 g/L with 10 13 g/L butanol. ABE fermentation by Clostridia usually
has two phases, acidogenesis and solventogenesis (Lee et al., 2008). In the acidogenesis phase,
glucose or other sugars are converted into acids such as acetate acid and butyrate acid, which leads
to rapid decrease in pH. Under certain critical pH, Clostridia shifts to the solventogenesis phase
during which it consumes acids to produce solvents (acetone, ethanol and butanol). The most
important factor that triggers the shift from acidogenesis to solventogenesis is external and internal
pHs. Some metabolically engineered Clostridia do not have this shift mechanism .
As a fuel, butanol can be used in pure form or blended in gasoline in any concentration unlike
ethanol that can be blended only up to 85%; however, a higher blend would necessitate motor
engine modification . In addition, the energy content of butanol being 29.2 MJ/L is 30% higher
than that of ethanol (21.2 MJ/L) and much closer to gasoline (32.5 MJ/L). Also, butanol s low
vapor pressure, hydroscopic nature, less volatility and less flammability facilitates its blending and
supply in existing gasoline channels and pipelines.

A Conversation between Descartes and Searle
Descartes: One of my greatest powers is the ability to think, considering that it is essentially the
only thing that I am unable to doubt.
Searle: I partly agree to your statement, but I observe that you are inclined to ignore the concept of
technology and the wonders that it can perform. Furthermore, just as you are able to persuade other
individuals in thinking that they make decisions for themselves, it is probable that someone else
influences you and the decisions that you make without allowing you to understand that you are
being manipulated.
D: Oh, but I m afraid that you got the wrong impression regarding my thinking. I did not say that I
cannot be manipulated, as I simply claimed that me being able to doubt everything but my ability
to doubt is equivalent to me having free will. I will always be able to doubt things and this stands
as proof that my mind is different from my body as a consequence of the fact that it is thinking.
S: It is very likely that information that has been produced consequent to your death made it easier
for me to look at things and that I am better prepared to understand how the mind works. As I said,
you tend to ignore the fact that technology has advanced greatly and that the Age of Technology
provides individuals with a lot of information that they can use with the purpose of developing
arguments to support particular points of view.

Cell Phone Safety And Safety
Cell phones have been a major part of everyday life by helping people connect with each other
instantaneously. Even though cell phones and their benefits are easy to recognize, the safety of
cell phone use has been debated because of the safety of the cell phone radiation. The safety of cell
phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones is a controversial topics, debating claims such as
whether it has a correlation with canceror tumors, if children are affected by it more than adults
are, and by whether or not it is safe cannot be decided because of how recent the adoption of cell
phones are (procon.org). One large debate in the topic of cell phone safety, and the safety of the
radiation that is emitted from cell phones, is whether or not it can cause cancer. The radiation
emitted from cell phones is a radiofrequency electromagnetic field, and is the controversial topic
at hand. Some believe that cell phone radiation cannot cause cancer of any kind. The argument
here is that the cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones in not powerful enough to
cause cancer, while others believe that it still could. The radiation emitted from cell phones is
argued to be non ionizing, which means that it produces molecules called ions that have either too
many or too few electrons. The imbalance in ions is what is blamed for the development of cancer.
Even though the argument could be true, there is no credit or no support for how the conclusion of
this argument, that cell phone radiation is non ionizing, has been found (qtd. in procon.org pro 2).
On the contrary, a study was conducted by the IARC, or the International Agency for Research on
Cancer, that labeled cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogen. The study was conducted by 31
scientists, and concluded that the radiofrequency electromagnetic field that cell phones, radios, and
televisions emit are group 2B carcinogens, which are possibly carcinogenic to humans. This study
provides more sound evidence than the other side of the argument because it gives credibility to the
argument by citing research that was completed by an institution (qtd. in procon.org con 6). The
opposite viewpoint states that there are not any government agencies in the

Spy Genre
The iconography or characteristics of a spy genre film are very unique compared to other films
that are similar to its genre. First, the genre adds a mixture of science fiction to the film with
advanced technology. Within every spy genre the protagonist is always given copious amounts of
gadgets that can be either lethal or non lethal to enemies. Some of the best gadgets seen within in
the spy genre would be the ejecting chair, vehicle that can shoot, or even the simple everyday
object that can be used as a tracking device.
Another characteristic of a spy genre film is the lead protagonist has to be both attractive and smart.

Generally this catch phrase is memorable enough that the audience can identify the phrase with
the film. The importance of the catch phrase is to make the film lasting in the minds of the
audience even after they left the theatre. The last characteristic and possible the most important
element of the spy genre, is that the genre keeps up with current events. Early spy movies have a
plot that is centered on the Cold War, and Russian spies trying to take down Western ideology.
As the decades evolve though the films stay current by changing the antagonist, making the
modern day spy films evolve around terrorism and cyberspace. A great example of this comes
from one of the latest installments of Bond films, Skyfall. As author James Smith writes, Indeed,
Skyfall s grasp of this cultural and political moment was nowhere more apparent than in its choice
of villain, Raoul Silva. In depicting this antagonist as a master computer hacker who steals MI6 s

and foreshadowed Edward Snowden revealing NSA secrets to the world. Now having had the
proper background information, one can now look into the comparison and contrasting

some point most girls begin to worry that they are putting on weight and start to compare

What are the causes?
The disease usually begins in young people around the time of puberty. The causes for this
disease are still not known. Some people think that if they are thinner they will be more happy

The Big Bang And The Biblical Creation Theory
Even though the Big Bang and the Biblical Creation story seem to fit together, there are still lots
of scientists who claim that people do not need to invoke a higher being to prove how the
universe began. John Lennox discusses Hawking in his books and his view on religion which is
that the concept of God, or the gods, is a placeholder for human ignorance a God of the Gaps ,
who will increasingly be displaced as the gaps in our knowledge are filled by scientific
explanations (Lennox 23). This a very popular view of religion, voiced by Hawking s himself.
Atheists believe that science and religion can never mix, and with every scientific advancement,
the human race relies less and less on religion and a God to answer all of their questions. With
every scientific advancement made, science is getting closer and closer to what religion has been
saying for thousands of years. The Big BangTheory and the Biblical Creationism Story both have
many perceived differences, but despite their major faults and the handful of other possibilities, the
two theories provide a fuller understanding of the beginning of the universewhen both explanations
are in use. At about one hundredth of a second, the earliest time about which we can speak with any
confidence, the temperature of the universe was about a hundred thousands million degrees
Centigrade. This is much hotter than in the center of even the hottest star, so hot, in fact, that none

Torture Flaws
The Hordes of Genghis Khan and the British Government may appear completely different.
However, when examined with a trained eye, one will find that they do share one major similarity.
That being their extensive use of torture. Now, in this day and age torture is quite the hot button
topic, this is especially true with the recent possibility of the US going back into torture. Although
some may think America can use torture, it is ultimately foolish for the U.S. to utilize this brutal
tactic, as it proves to be a Monkey s Paw for the entire nation. Security of Nation As widely
condemned as torture is, some do argue that, despite its myriad of flaws it does achieve results. An
example, these supporters commonly use is that since the Bush Administration (2001 2009)
allowed it there has been a tremendous absence of terror attacks within the US. Thus seemingly
proving that torture was the real reason that terror attacks stopped in the US. However, this
mentality carries copious flaws along with it. The main one being that since the Obama

scenario, it s alright because it s saving the lives of others. However, while this type of analogy

that countless reliable sources have given valid examples of information being gained without the
need to use torture. Such as the men who helped locate Saddam Hussein by using non violent

Observation Of Toddlers
The key to understanding children is observation. As observers, we begin to look for daily patterns
in their behavior. Once patterns of behavior are recognized, the observer can then give positive
guidance in securing the child s developmental needs.
In observing a normal newborn s behaviors and activities, reflexes play an important role. They
help to identify normal brain and nerve activity. In my observation of Baby A, she demonstrated
reflexes of rutting in finding the nipple of her bottle, sucking, head turning and grasping of my
fingers. Although she was born full term, she was quite small in stature and weight. She also
showed alertness to senses of sight, hearing, taste and touch. Of course, at first, she slept most of
the time while she was in my care, but as she aged, she became more active and alert. The key
element to keeping Baby A happy was taking care of her physical needs first...diaper changes,
feeding and burping. Although she is still very small in weight and height, she shows no sign of
delayed development and is now a happy, healthy toddler.
Children from about 1 to 2 years old are usually called toddlers. During these years, parents see
tremendous growth and change. As an observer, I was able to see a Toddler B transform from a
baby into a toddler right before my eyes.

machine the color or the dye that is seen depends on the wavelengths of light to see the color that is
reflected and the other colors that are absorbed [1]. By using a vision region colour wheel I can
see that because the blue peaked at 630 nm the color absorbs red light. The yellow absorbed violet

Also the intensity of color is related to the absorbance of light when using the Spec 20. The
intensity of the color of the compound is proportional to the absorbance of the compound. The
greater the intensity the greater the absorbance. By using the Spec 20 we could uncover an
unknown sample color by knowing a colors transmission/absorption range. We also learned that
absorbance and concentration of solutions are proportional to one another. The more concentrated
the solution the greater the light absorbed, which is proven by Diet Coke. By using a Beer s Law
Plot we can determine an unknown samples concentration by observing the absorption of the
sample [2]. The evidence of the experiment proved that the color of a compound is related to
absorption and absorption is related to the concentration of a

Stalin s The Dominant Leader Of The Soviet Union
How did Stalin come to be the dominant leader of the Soviet Union?
It is undeniable that Stalin had a profound impact on the Soviet Union following Lenin s death. His
rise to power within the Soviet Union has provided historians with a hotbed of political intrigue for
many years. He was an opportunist, coming to dominance by manipulating party politics and
influential figures in the politburo to eliminate his opposition by recognising and exploiting their
weaknesses thus becoming the dominant leader of the Soviet Union. He was severely
underestimated by other members of the Politburo about his potential within the party, leading to
missed opportunities to ally and stand against him a mistake that Stalin never made. He gained
support from the public by exploiting the idea of the Cult of Lenin in 1924 at Lenin s funeral, and
then adopting this concept for himself, thereby likening himself to Lenin; and, more importantly,
gained support from other party members by following the wishes of Lenin, for example, initially
supporting the continuation of the NEP and supporting the idea of factionalism. This essay will
also argue that he was ideologically flexible as he was able to change his ideas for the party
according to who he needed as an ally, in order to achieve dominant status in the party. He sought
out which individual was the biggest threat, and eliminated them before they could stand against
him.
The events which led to Stalin s rise to power were not simple and it was

Essay on Growing Up Poor
Growing up Poor I did not realize until about the 5th grade, what being poor was all about. From
kindergarten until then, kids didn t really pay attention to what you wore to school, what type of
home you lived in, or what your parents did for a living. What mattered was how nice you were,
that you shared your toys, and took turns on the playground. Fifth grade started a whole new
chapter in life. It started with a new school with both familiar and unfamiliar faces and with that,
new challenges that included trying to fit in with your peers. Not until I started getting questions
like, You get free lunch? How? or being stared at while standing in the free lunch line as it was
called in school, did I realize that I was different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I had to go to school for that. I was about seven years old when I got my first big lesson. I was in
love with a little girl named Helene Tucker, a light complexioned little girl with pigtails and nice
manners. She was always clean and she was smart in school. I think I went to school then mostly
to look at her. I brushed my hair and even got me a little old handkerchief. It was a lady s
handkerchief, but I didn t want Helene to see me wipe my nose on my hand. The pipes were
frozen again, there was no water in the house, but I washed my socks and shirt every night. I d
get a pot, and go over to Mister Ben s grocery store, and stick my pot down into his soda machine
and scoop out some chopped ice. By evening the ice melted to water for washing. I got sick a lot
that winter because the fire would go out at night before the clothes were dry. In the morning I d
put them on, wet or dry, because they were the only clothes I had. Everybody s got a Helene
Tucker, a symbol of everything you want. I loved her for her goodness, her cleanness, her
popularity. She d walk down my street and my brothers and sisters would yell, Here comes
Helene, and I d rub my tennis sneakers on the back of my pants and wish my hair wasn t so
nappy and the white folks shirt fit me better. I d run out on the street. If I knew my place and
didn t come too close, she d wink at me and say hello. That was a good feeling. Sometimes I d

The Role Of Women In Persepolis
In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in
riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The
graphic novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were
treated during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic
Revolution, the novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God,
readers are educated about Muhammads views of women and the religionof Islam. The Islam
depicted in Persepolis differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as
inferior to men while Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men
objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the
men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin
with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway
wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover
their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt
oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule by telling their citizens that it
would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so exposed. In the novel,
Marji s mom s car broke down, so Marji and her dad went to pick her up. When they saw her, she

Characteristics Of Modern Christianity
1. A Unique and Important Practice in Modern Christianity
There are many Christian practices, all of the diversified importance to the lives of the believers
of the faith. These variegated practices are what differentiates Christians from people of other
faiths, and gives them autonomy. According to Craig Dykstra, Christian practices are not activities
we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be
obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives
where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us (Spiritual Practices, n.d., p.
1).
Therefore, Christian practices are the daily engagements that believers of the faith undertake in line
with what is expected of them. This paper will discuss fasting as a practice in modern Christianity
that is unique and important to the faith of believers and will provide a summary describing
fasting, how it developed, and why it is significant in the lives of at least some contemporary
Christians. In addition, this paper will also discuss Evangelicalism as a movement within
Christianity which started within the past 200 years, having distinctive beliefs, and impact on
modern and contemporary Christianity (Christendom).
One practice in modern Christianity that is unique is fasting (Colbert, 2006). Often, fasting is
related to a person lacking or rather, doing without food, however, this is not the case. Through

Best Hurricane Shutters
How To Choose The Best Hurricane Shutters For Your Home When you live in an area where
hurricanes are possible, it s a good idea to prepare for one in advance, especially when it comes
to protecting your windows. You don t want to be frantically trying to find plywood and cut it
into window coverings at the last minute. Hurricane shutters are worth the investment since you
can have them already installed and ready to go as soon as you need them. There are a few
choices when it comes to hurricane shutters. Here are some tips for how to choose the best ones
for your home. Shutters That Are Controlled Remotely Many hurricane shutters have to be
installed or rolled down manually. However, you can also buy shutters that operate with a
remote or wall switch. These also have a battery backup so you can operate them even when the
power is out. You can also turn your tablet or smartphone into a remote control and close the
shutters if you re away from home. If you have a vacation home in hurricane country, these
shutters would be ideal. They are also a good choice if you want to open and close them from
inside your house so you can peek outside and avoid going outside in the rain to unlock the shutters.

All you have to do when a hurricane approaches is drop the shutters and lock them in place.
These can be made of metal, vinyl, or wood. When the storm passes, the shutters are rolled back
to a box above or to the sides of the windows until they are needed again, or they are propped
back up on their legs. If you don t like the appearance of shutters that roll into boxes, you can get
decorative shutters with louvers instead that add a little shade and glamour to your home when they
re not protecting you from a hurricane. Shutters You Have To

Have you heard of a family crest before? A family crest is a shield that has a motto, symbols,
and a name. The symbols of the shield is something that would represent your family. Back in the
olden days they would use a family crest to kinda spy on families and they could find
information about families that they would not want to tell. The three thing I put on my family
crest are a elephant, cross, and a flower. The first thing I put on my family crest is a elephant .
The reason I put a elephant on my family crest is they are strong, and they are smart. I also
picked a elephant because the symbolize strength and power. I picked a elephant because I am
strong and I don t let other people bring me down. The second thing I put on my family crest

sphere critique Essay
Sphere
Sphere is an interesting story about a group of scientists from different disciplines who are
brought to a super secret underwater site where the U. S. Navy has discovered a mysterious,
glowing sphere. Although the movie was very interesting, a lot of scientific facts, it was just too
long and there were parts of the film where I found myself yawning. I give the movie a thumb up
for being the movie my teacher chose to show the class. Although the movie was directed by Barry
Levinson and starred Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson it would not be a
movie I would pick off the shelf and rent for my own interest.

(Harry Adams), and an astrophysicist (Ted). According to the Goodman report a biochemist is
needed to assess the physiology of the unknown life form. A mathematician is needed because math
would be the common language. An astrophysicist is needed to locate the place in the cosmos.
This elite team will be staying in a habitat 1000 feet beneath the ocean. The habitat is handled by
two navy personal. The contact team finds a large sphere in the spacecraft that reflects everything
but humans. According to Ted if they were to put a micrometer around the sphere it would be
perfect to the millionth of an inch. Then when the crew loses contact with the surface because of a
storm overhead the team is forced to stay in the habitat. When a few crew members are killed the
crew is forced to find out the mysteries of the sphere while dealing with distrust between each other.
The movie contained some good scientific information. It mentioned the concept of the black hole,
a collapsed dead star that has so much gravity it acts like a huge vacuum cleaner sucking
everything (dust, light, and time). It also demonstrated that a liquid hydrogen bomb would send a
shock wave under water and after the shockwave passes everything would be pulled back in toward
the source.

Current Process Of Nice Technology Appraisal
Current process of NICE Technology Appraisal:
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is an executive non departmental

the additional money required to gain per QALY. The threshold is currently set between В
Ј20,000
ВЈ30,000 per QALY4,5 which means if the new medicine/product s ICER value is below this
threshold this will be recommended by NICE as cost effective and if it is higher it will not be
recommended.
Drawbacks with the current approach of QALY:
Current approach by NICE is though very useful in terms of getting a quantitative assessment
however the QALY approach does have some drawbacks. Some of these drawbacks are listed
below:
No room to assess the innovation of a new product
Subjective nature of scales to assess QALY (EQ 5D),
No assessment of burden of illness
No assessment of negative impact on society
No assessment of wider societal benefit
Proposal to Modify the current approach
A proposal for NICE to modify their current approach is vital in order to improve the process. One
key thing would be to assess the degree of innovation of the new product/device/medicine. Let s
review first what innovation means and what can be the process improvement.
Definition of Innovation

Alimony Case
Alimony is temporary Income money that is paid to the ex spouse to support after the divorce.
The hardest part is determining whether the ex spouse receives alimony which is a very
emotional issue in divorce. Alimony involves all around financial discussions usually a spouse
doesn t have a degree, been out of the work place environment raising children, has a hard time
finding work or doesn t make not near what the other spouse makes will request to receive
alimony. The amount awarded for alimony unlike child support is based off of the age, physical
condition of the spouse, their emotional state they are in, and financial circumstance of the former
spouses; the spouse may need time for education or training to become self sufficient; the standard
of living the couple had standard during the marriage; The length and time of the marriage had

Child support orders usually follows divorce. The court mostly determines what the payments
will be based off of the income of the non custodial parent. If the non custodial parent fails to pay
they can be subject to fines as well as jail time. Most of the time you probably see many fathers
being put on child s support. However it s not uncommon for a mother of children to be put on
child support. It can be very emotional and upsetting to parents who do a lot for their kids such
as getting school clothes, seeing them often, and being a part of the child s life and needs.
However, they still have to pay child support to a parent that doesn t use the child support money
for the child. I believe child support is good for the dead beat parents that don t want to take care

Maternity Leave Research Paper
Introduction
Historically the role of the women was aligned with motherhood and supporting the
household.Drastically changed in the 21st century, women are now the sole providers of their
households all while holding top positions and providing support and love to the individuals in their
lives . Welcoming the progressive era, a time of robust improvements for many areas in society,
public health was one. With the increasing advancement of medical technologies many diseases that
most thought to be incurable had treatments and things that could help an individual live a number
of years more than if there was no treatment at all. This era also welcomed the Sheppard Towner
Maternity and Infancy Protection Act allowing for monetary funds to be issued that encouraged the
health and education surrounding mothers and children. Not included act was maternity leave
rights. Maternity leave did not make it into official documents until after the Civil Rights act, and
the denial of its regulations within the house and senate. Boushey (2008) divided maternity leave
into two categories. She stated,

  • 2. Miranda K. Walker. An Analysis Of The Exert For Environmental Miranda K. Walker An Analysis of the Exert for Environmental Justice in Ecuador Introduction Ecuador s quest for environmental justice, subsequent to oil extraction, is a noxious consequence of colonialism. Through principles and the aftermath of colonialism, a dependence on resource extraction has proven detrimental to Ecuador s indigenous population, only profiting a select few. This very act demonstrates a need for ecological democracy, a demand for the just treatment of the indigenous, and an inherent disfunction of capitalism. These conditions have nurtured, and validated, the idea of a resource curse; as resource rich Ecuador is worse off than countries without commodities like oil. Specifically, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the early 17th century, there were around 500 Spanish estates in Ecuador where Native Ecuadorians were enslaved. The Spaniards profited the most off of Ecuador s coastal economy, revolved around shipping and trade. This was until the fall of the Ecuadorian economy in the 18th century, attributed to the expulsion of the Jesuits by King Charles III of Spain as missions were abandoned. Between 1700 and 1800, textile production dropped around 50 75%. As a result, Ecuador s diminished into ruins, and even its elite fell into poverty. During the end of the colonial era, Spain s Bourbon monarchs developed a new approach to promote colonial development. Once Charles III declared a decree of free trade, thus expanding the number of ports in South America that were permitted to trade amongst themselves or with any port in Spain from six to twenty four, the region s economy bettered. However, it would never fully recover from the fall of the textile industry. In 1976, after a Texaco Gulf consortium discovered mass amount of oil in the Oriente, the construction of a 312 mile long pipe line was commissioned. The pipe line was gradually transferred to state ownership during the 1970s and 1980s, and for the first time in Ecuador s history, from its new ability to tax private foreign petroleum companies, the government had its own economic independence and source of revenue, and created free market policies, dubbing neoliberalism. • 4. Perseverance In First Job By Illiana Roman Perseverance is a mandatory quality to possess. As a matter of fact, perseverance is a blend of spirit and determination. This skill instills motivation and drive into the hearts of others. One does not require special talents or great knowledge to be a vessel in which this quality can be observed. In her essay, First Job, Illiana Roman illustrates a life filled with hard work and perseverance through anecdotes, wordchoice, and sentence structure. Roman began by revealing that she dropped out of school at the age of seventeen due to pregnancy. For the next four years she lived with her boyfriend and had two more children. However, this all concluded when her boyfriend quit his job and began drinking. She knew that the relationship needed to end. Roman returned to live with her father and went back and received her GED. She did not stop there, she continued on to attend business classes at a community college. During this time, Roman worked at a sporting goods store, where she learned many skills such as balancing books, customer service and other related activities; however, she was forced to quit this job so she could attend cosmetology school. While in cosmology school, she worked at a car dealership, where he learned that she possessed a talent in working with customers. Once she received her license in cosmetology, her father helped her buy and renovate a salon. She now runs that business with the skills she acquired throughout her previous jobs and experiences. Roman aspires to be a role model for her community and her children. Currently, she intends on perusing a vocation in the realty business and hiring a manager to run her salon. She encourages others to work hard and never stop learning. The most prevalent method Roman utilizes to convey her message is through anecdotes; in fact, she both begins and concludes her essay with this method. Anecdotes effectively convey her perseverance and hard work, since the reader receives an intimate view of her life as a whole. The reader is either told outright a mandatory factor in her life or he/she can create an inference. The stories she provides helps to clarify her points. The reader is informed that she is an America/Puerto Rican, high school ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being around those who are less fortunate than I am will enable me to learn how different people live in different ways, because here, in Vernon Hills, we take basic necessities for granted, like food, water, shelter, and education. My field experience this semester I would say has to be my favorite placement yet. Some of the reasons why this is my best placement yet is because first I absolutely love my teacher, the kids have been awesome, and working with them has been so much fun and rewarding. My beliefs about teaching learning were confirmed as a result of this experience with my teacher and the classroom environment. My beliefs that I have had in mind for my future classroom that was confirmed in my placement right now is 1) Creating a classroom environment where everyone is included and treated the exact same way, 2) Getting the time to know your students interests in and outside of the school/classroom, and 3) Installing a love for learning in the classroom. My teacher has created a comfortable classroom environment where I noticed she treats every student the same way and is a believer in all types of inclusion. I have seen her take the time to personally connect with the student and their interests that are involved inside and outside the classroom. • 8. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) Essay You have probably heard and may even have used the term hyperactivity. The notion is a modern one: there were no hyperactive children 50 to 60 years ago. Today, if anything, the term is applied too often and too widely. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) estimates that all teachers have in their classrooms at least one child with ADHD(Simmons, RG. 1993). Actually, hyperactivity is not one particular condition: it is a set of behaviors such as excessive restlessness and short attention span that are quantitatively and qualitatively different from those children of the same sex, mental age, and socioeconomic status (Gutskey, T.R. 1991). Im going to be telling you guys what kind of mood his painting was and how it transformed over time. In my opinion on Frank Romero s painting means that we love our cars and our cars mean a lot to us. I say this because our cars get us to places we like to go. In his painting he drew some cars and painted a heart on top of each car. In the other image it basically shows his painting didn t mean anything to other people because years later they tagged on his painting. Also in the other image they covered his painting with another layer of cement. In this paragraph I m going to be talking about how Frank Romero might feel about our city s car culture and also about the mood of the painting. Frank might love his car a lot because that s what his painting symbolizes and his painting means a lot to him but not only to him , maybe it also means a lot to other people. This language, known as Nadsat, represents a Russian influence in Alex s society. Burgess was able to hear the language spoken first hand upon traveling to the Soviet Union. There, he was able to refine a simple yet plausible Slavic vocabulary... to revise and complete A Clockwork Orange (Biswell 238). Nadsat is mainly spoken by teen troublemakers, such as Alex, because it cannot be understood by mainstream society. The language, in a way, also encourages violence with unique derogatory terms regarding women and rape (Goh 1). Upon understanding the language spoken by Alex, one can further understand his actions and the way in which he is influenced by his surroundings and the rest of society. Goh continues to explain how the use of language in this novel makes a statement about the individual s (Alex s) struggle... for authenticity under dystopian conditions of social control (1). This so called social control is consistent with what Burgess may have seen in the Soviet Union and presents a motive for the way he portrayed the government in the novel. As Alex speaks, the reader can infer that he has been given no choice but to become the vicious criminal that he is. This, in turn, makes the reader feel a certain sympathy towards him despite the despicable nature of his crimes. Also creating a unique theme of sympathy is the use of Alex as a first person narrator. As a first person narrator, one can see Alex s innermost thoughts and experience life as he lives it. Alex often describes his crimes in a humorous and intimate manner, as stated in the article A Clockwork Orange (1). Ordinary storms develop and mature through a cycle, as cell thunderstorms don t have this development. Different conditions vary from warm air rising, random turbulent eddies and terrain. These are a few that can be a trigger to these more impactful storms. 4. Where do thunderstorms form most frequently in the US? Why is this the case? Is this also where most tornadoes occur? Explain. The most area that gets thunderstorms more frequently is the Gulf Coast. This area includes all of Florida, to include parts of Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. We also find that, in summer along the Gulf Coast, a thick layer of warm, moist air extends upward from the surface (Ahrens, 2015, p.303). This also makes a point that more storms consuming Hail are located in the Great Plains. Thunderstorms typically form more in the tropical latitude, which makes the gulf coast a prime location. The two areas that tornados occur most is the Tornado Alley and the Dixie Alley. Tornado Alley stretches from Central Texas to Nebraska, as Dixie Alley over Mississippi to Alabama. • 18. Max Weber And His Contributions Phala Monte Ms. Berner SYG 2000 01Z 7 June 2015 Max Weber and His Contributions Throughout the early 1900s, Max Weber was considered as one of the three founders of sociology, because he had acquired many ideas that profoundly influenced social theory and social research. For sociology as a whole, Weber s study of sociology is theoretical historical, because he had the idea of rationalization based on his observations from the Protestant Work Ethic and other societies to analyze modern societies. This led to the development of one of the main theoretical perspectives, known as interactionism; Weber had supported the view of symbolic interactionism, because his earlier ideas mainly focused on the individual s viewpoint and experience and how that person would relate to society. Weber had changed the way sociologists view individuals within this theoretical perspective, based on his contributing ideas. To start with early life, Karl Emil Maximilian Weber was born in 1864, in Erfurt, Province of Saxony, Prussia. (Winch 735). His mother, Helene Fallenstein, was part of humanitarian and religious convictions, and his father, Max WeberSr., was a National Liberal parliamentary deputy. His wife Marianne Schnitger was a feminist activist. While Weber never paid attention in school, he read Goethe, which might have had influenced his theorist ideas and methodology (Winch 735). Most terraced fields were constructed for agriculture, but some are developed to control floods and other purposes. To this day, we still see some terraced fields around the world, which allows us to admire their natural beauty. This means that plants are able to absorb more water from the soil during the second crop. In the dry West China, such natural water conservation is significant in helping farmers grow their plants throughout the year. Terraced fields also tremendously reduced erosionin the region. Comparing the erosion modulus of regular sloped land and terraced land in the region, the erosion modulus of terraced land is about 1.8% that of the regular sloped land. This means that terraced land preserved and improved the soil in the region for sustainable agriculture. With better and richer soil, agriculture production yield increased dramatically, which generated a lot of revenue. Since each step of terraced fields are shallower than dams, they could also become the habitat of many birds. According to the definition of wetlands from RAMSAR, any body of water, static or flowing, with water depth of less than six meters could be considered as wetlands. Yet for others, it is a family connection or interest that sparks their conscience. For example, when people are moved to do things like adopt children, something in their heart tells them that she should be a part of something bigger in the world. That is exactly the case for Ludviga Pukas, a domestic maid from Ukraine. It was her own morals and faithfulness to her employer that left her to be remembered as one of the hundreds of thousands of holocaust rescuers (Women of Valor). In the later 1930s, Ludviga (Nina) Pukas found a job in a town then called Proskurov as a maid with a mother, Frima Sternik, and her two children, ages four and one. Organic Extraction Distillation Process With Abe Extraction ABSTRACT Conventionally, Butanol is made with the Acetone Butanol Ethanol process using Clostridium species to ferment sugars from biomass. Conversely, the route is linked with some shortcomings such as low butanol yield and by product formation (acetone and ethanol). The low productivities and butanol yields of ABE batch fermentation can be increased by continuous fermentation with cell recycle and integrated product removal. In order to facilitate an effective and energy efficient product removal, we suggest to apply a hybrid extraction distillation process with ABE extraction in an external column. INTRODUCTION Butanol (ethyl alcohol) is a four carbon alcohol which has been mainly used as a solvent, chemical intermediate, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The total ABE titer is 15 18 g/L with 10 13 g/L butanol. ABE fermentation by Clostridia usually has two phases, acidogenesis and solventogenesis (Lee et al., 2008). In the acidogenesis phase, glucose or other sugars are converted into acids such as acetate acid and butyrate acid, which leads to rapid decrease in pH. Under certain critical pH, Clostridia shifts to the solventogenesis phase during which it consumes acids to produce solvents (acetone, ethanol and butanol). The most important factor that triggers the shift from acidogenesis to solventogenesis is external and internal pHs. Some metabolically engineered Clostridia do not have this shift mechanism . As a fuel, butanol can be used in pure form or blended in gasoline in any concentration unlike ethanol that can be blended only up to 85%; however, a higher blend would necessitate motor engine modification . In addition, the energy content of butanol being 29.2 MJ/L is 30% higher than that of ethanol (21.2 MJ/L) and much closer to gasoline (32.5 MJ/L). Also, butanol s low vapor pressure, hydroscopic nature, less volatility and less flammability facilitates its blending and supply in existing gasoline channels and pipelines. The safety of cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones is a controversial topics, debating claims such as whether it has a correlation with canceror tumors, if children are affected by it more than adults are, and by whether or not it is safe cannot be decided because of how recent the adoption of cell phones are (procon.org). One large debate in the topic of cell phone safety, and the safety of the radiation that is emitted from cell phones, is whether or not it can cause cancer. The radiation emitted from cell phones is a radiofrequency electromagnetic field, and is the controversial topic at hand. Some believe that cell phone radiation cannot cause cancer of any kind. The argument here is that the cell phone radiation that is emitted from cell phones in not powerful enough to cause cancer, while others believe that it still could. The radiation emitted from cell phones is argued to be non ionizing, which means that it produces molecules called ions that have either too many or too few electrons. The imbalance in ions is what is blamed for the development of cancer. Even though the argument could be true, there is no credit or no support for how the conclusion of this argument, that cell phone radiation is non ionizing, has been found (qtd. in procon.org pro 2). On the contrary, a study was conducted by the IARC, or the International Agency for Research on Cancer, that labeled cell phone radiation as a possible carcinogen. The study was conducted by 31 scientists, and concluded that the radiofrequency electromagnetic field that cell phones, radios, and televisions emit are group 2B carcinogens, which are possibly carcinogenic to humans. In Japan, the era of sengoku lead to the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunateand the consequences of the rise of the Tokugawa Shogunate were the change in social position of ruling elites and the rise of the merchant class, the rise of Dutch learning, and Japan s seclusion from European influences. The era of sengoku, the civil war, lead to the creation of the Tokugawa Shogunate. Because of the war between the shoguns and the retainers, Japan was not politically united, and was mostly ruled by the daimyo, who were powerful territorial lords. The last chieftain, Tokugawa Ieyasu, who sought... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before, due to Chinese cultural influences, the Japanese social hierarchy ranked the shogun, daimyo and samurai at the top, whereas the merchants were at the bottom. However, once Japan became politically stable, the interest of the Tokugawa shoguns was to reduce the number of professionally armed warriors, so they encouraged the daimyo and samurai to become bureaucrats and government functionaries. As they lost their accustomed place in society, many of the ruling elite fell into financial difficulty and fell into genteel poverty. On the other hand, merchants became increasingly wealthy and prominent because they were successful in urban environments, like the city of Edo. They soon had more wealth than the ruling elite and some that were exceptionally wealthy were able to purchase elite ranks or contract marriages with elite families in efforts to improve their social ... Scientific Explanation Lab Report Discussion and Scientific Explanations During our first experiment we used blue, yellow and a mixture of blue and yellow to find their transmission using different wavelengths. The blue peaked at 630 nm, the yellow peaked at 410 430 nm and the mixture (green) peaked at 630 nm. Results on Tables 1 3 and Graph 1. We had to find the peak wavelength of each dye to identify the color of the solution. By using the Spec 20 machine the color or the dye that is seen depends on the wavelengths of light to see the color that is reflected and the other colors that are absorbed [1]. By using a vision region colour wheel I can see that because the blue peaked at 630 nm the color absorbs red light. The yellow absorbed violet light and the mixture absorbed ... The intensity of the color of the compound is proportional to the absorbance of the compound. The greater the intensity the greater the absorbance. By using the Spec 20 we could uncover an unknown sample color by knowing a colors transmission/absorption range. We also learned that absorbance and concentration of solutions are proportional to one another. The more concentrated the solution the greater the light absorbed, which is proven by Diet Coke. By using a Beer s Law Plot we can determine an unknown samples concentration by observing the absorption of the sample [2]. The evidence of the experiment proved that the color of a compound is related to absorption and absorption is related to the concentration of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Stalin s The Dominant Leader Of The Soviet Union How did Stalin come to be the dominant leader of the Soviet Union? It is undeniable that Stalin had a profound impact on the Soviet Union following Lenin s death. His rise to power within the Soviet Union has provided historians with a hotbed of political intrigue for many years. He was an opportunist, coming to dominance by manipulating party politics and influential figures in the politburo to eliminate his opposition by recognising and exploiting their weaknesses thus becoming the dominant leader of the Soviet Union. He was severely underestimated by other members of the Politburo about his potential within the party, leading to missed opportunities to ally and stand against him a mistake that Stalin never made. He gained support from the public by exploiting the idea of the Cult of Lenin in 1924 at Lenin s funeral, and then adopting this concept for himself, thereby likening himself to Lenin; and, more importantly, gained support from other party members by following the wishes of Lenin, for example, initially supporting the continuation of the NEP and supporting the idea of factionalism. This essay will also argue that he was ideologically flexible as he was able to change his ideas for the party according to who he needed as an ally, in order to achieve dominant status in the party. He sought out which individual was the biggest threat, and eliminated them before they could stand against him. The events which led to Stalin s rise to power were not simple and it was ... From kindergarten until then, kids didn t really pay attention to what you wore to school, what type of home you lived in, or what your parents did for a living. What mattered was how nice you were, that you shared your toys, and took turns on the playground. Fifth grade started a whole new chapter in life. It started with a new school with both familiar and unfamiliar faces and with that, new challenges that included trying to fit in with your peers. It was a lady s handkerchief, but I didn t want Helene to see me wipe my nose on my hand. The pipes were frozen again, there was no water in the house, but I washed my socks and shirt every night. I d get a pot, and go over to Mister Ben s grocery store, and stick my pot down into his soda machine and scoop out some chopped ice. By evening the ice melted to water for washing. I got sick a lot that winter because the fire would go out at night before the clothes were dry. In the morning I d put them on, wet or dry, because they were the only clothes I had. Everybody s got a Helene Tucker, a symbol of everything you want. I loved her for her goodness, her cleanness, her popularity. • 42. The Role Of Women In Persepolis In the distance, chaos builds and guns are shot. By standing up for their rights, people are dying in riots. These riots were about women. All around the world, women are treated differently. The graphic novel, Persepolis, enlightens readers about the Islamic Revolution and how women were treated during that time. Because the author was young when she experienced the Islamic Revolution, the novel is in the perspective of her as a little girl. In the book No God But God, readers are educated about Muhammads views of women and the religionof Islam. The Islam depicted in Persepolis differs from Muhammad s original vision of Islam by treating women as inferior to men while Muhammad s vision treats women as equals. In the novel Persepolis, men objectify women, because they were said to be distracting. To remedy the biased thoughts of the men, women were commanded to wear headscarves and extensive clothing that covered all skin with the exception of their face. The Islamic Regime enforced this by making it a law to alway wear the hijab: Women s hair emanates rays that excite men. That is why women should cover their hair! (Satrapi 74). Because women could no longer wear what they wanted, they felt oppressed and degraded. The regime cruelly enforced the rule by telling their citizens that it would protect women from all potential rapists since women were so exposed. • 44. Characteristics Of Modern Christianity 1. A Unique and Important Practice in Modern Christianity There are many Christian practices, all of the diversified importance to the lives of the believers of the faith. These variegated practices are what differentiates Christians from people of other faiths, and gives them autonomy. According to Craig Dykstra, Christian practices are not activities we do to make something spiritual happen in our lives. Nor are they duties we undertake to be obedient to God. Rather, they are patterns of communal action that create openings in our lives where the grace, mercy, and presence of God may be made known to us (Spiritual Practices, n.d., p. 1). Therefore, Christian practices are the daily engagements that believers of the faith undertake in line with what is expected of them. This paper will discuss fasting as a practice in modern Christianity that is unique and important to the faith of believers and will provide a summary describing fasting, how it developed, and why it is significant in the lives of at least some contemporary Christians. In addition, this paper will also discuss Evangelicalism as a movement within Christianity which started within the past 200 years, having distinctive beliefs, and impact on modern and contemporary Christianity (Christendom). One practice in modern Christianity that is unique is fasting (Colbert, 2006). Often, fasting is related to a person lacking or rather, doing without food, however, this is not the case. Through ... Welcoming the progressive era, a time of robust improvements for many areas in society, public health was one.
