- 2. Form: Newspaper article Structure Paragraphs, columns Content: News, current affairs, information, facts, opinions, statistics Mode of address: Formal, serious – depends on the newspaper. Can be more informal if it is a tabloid.
- 3. Headlines – In most newspaper articles there are headlines to title the specific subject or the article is about. This is so that the reader can be aware of what they are about to read about. Picture/images – Newspaper articles contain pictures for the reader to have a visual view on the subject or the people involved in the article. This attracts readers from a distance before they read the article and also gives them more of an understanding and interest while reading it. Caption for picture – There is a caption for pictures in newspapers which establishes the purpose of the picture.
- 4. Paragraph – newspaper articles are very long. They are usually split into short paragraph to prevent constant reading and also to stop the reader from getting bored. The by-line – The by-line a line in a newspaper naming which establishes the writer of an article. Columns – Newspaper articles are section split into columns, this is for more organisation and easy to read section by section. The first paragraph usually sums up a story. This is so the reader has a clear insight on what the article is about.
- 5. Information – Newspaper articles contain a various amount of information about the specific subject. Interviews – In newspaper articles they may include written interviews and quotes of the person they may have interviewed for a specific topic in the newspaper. Interviews help the audience see the different views and opinions of different people which helps them gain more knowledge and understand the situation in different perspectives.
- 6. Quotes – Quotes are used in newspapers to establish when something has been said by someone. Quotes are good because they are proof of what someone has said which helps readers put there own understanding in on words that have been said rather than the newspaper being biased and making up stories without evidence. Newspapers normally provide facts and opinions which helps keep the story less biased and more for individuals to judge. Facts and opinions help the reader understand the situation and see how other people feel about the situation.
- 7. Statistics – statistics give the audience or the reader various amount of information which helps the have a good idea around the situation. They are a way of gaining information quickly.
