Economic Criticism Of Robinson Crusoe
CRUSOE S QUEST FOR FORTUNE In Daniel Defoe s novel Robinson Crusoe the title
character, Crusoe, left his country due to economic motives. Ian Watt has noted in his essay
named Robinson Crusoe as a Myth that Crusoe observes nature, not with the eyes of a
pantheistic primitive, but with the calculating gaze of a colonial capitalism; wherever he looks
he sees acres that cry out for improvement, and as he settles down to the task he
glows...with...purposive possession. Robinson Crusoe subjugated the island with the drive of
Western European nations and exploited it with the formation of cultural hierarchy. I agree with
Crusoe and his labors to commodify and take possession of his island because he used all
relationships for his own benefit, ending convinced of his own superiority. In the beginning,
Crusoe s desire for money drove him to go on a voyage to London. During this voyage, his ship
was captured by a Turkish pirate, and Crusoe ended up enslaved on a Moorish port named Salle
(Defoe 12). After two years of being held in captivity, Crusoe says I meditated nothing but
escape, and what method to take effect (Defoe 13). He relied on his aptitude to help him through
his escape, and since nothing presented itself, he ended up putting it into practice when he was
sent to go fishing with a Moor named Ismael and a young boy named Xury. He brought up to the
Moor s attention that they were not going to sustain themselves with the patron s bread so, then
he brought biscuits and fresh water into the boat. Soon, after that he tricked the moor by saying
our patron s gun are on board the boat, can you not get a little powder...it maybe we kill some
alcamies for ourselves, for I know he keeps the gunner s in the ship (Defoe 15). Crusoe s ability
to play tricks on Ismael clearly connects to his gaze of a colonial capitalist. Also, when Crusoe,
Ismael, and Xury were fishing and a fish got caught on his hook he didn t pull them. Then,
suggested to the moor that they should go deeper into the sea to catch more fishes in order to
serve the patron s wishes (Defoe 16). Then, the moor agreed and Crusoe s strong determination to
escape urged him to run the boat further out into the sea. When he was giving the boy the

created a new me to improve his life and the dissatisfied world, but Taylor controlled Jack s life,
in other words, Jack fell into a world which is created by others, he seems has a normal life but
was bound by life. In fact, Jack and Taylor are the same one because Taylor is another personality
which is the idealism personality of Jake, but Jack is a weak materialist, and Taylor is a powerful
idealist. Jack killed the Taylor, so he destroyed the Utopia, and ultimately return to real world. On
the other hand, Pink Floyd s album The Wallalso reflect similar idea. The whole album has a clear
story line, there are several songs, which is Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1, 2 , Mother , and
Empty Spaces , talk about something happened in Pink such as Pink s father s dead,
overprotective mother, tormented at school, and wife s betrayed which created the wall and
isolated Pink from the outside; however, the wall is not all created by external factors,
Loneliness is like a spiritual wall as a invisible limitation, and the wall is accumulated by all
stages of life, which is not transferred by individual will. Pink s enclosed thoughts make the Wall
indestructible which limit his behavior, until the last song Outside The Wall , Pink breaks the wall
and go outside. The similarity between Fight Club and The Wall is both internal and external

The Demand For Branded Goods Essay
INTRODUCTION Over these 68 years of independence, Indian economy has witnessed a drastic
change in the pattern of consumption due to increase in level of income and purchasing power.
Post 1991 economic policy reforms, there has been high degree of competition and mass
production. There is immense positive change in demand for high end technologically advanced
branded goods, stimulated by increased awareness and changing taste and preference spurred by
demonstration effect. This would mainly be due to narrow difference in prices of non branded
and branded goods. Attractive services and accountability provided by various brands also
contribute to this increase in demand for branded goods. Post liberalisation, Indian markets were
flooded by foreign goods and there was wide range of choice. Earlier, Indian consumer durable
market was dominated by few domestic producers like Godrej, Voltas, Kelvinator etc. The main
categories of consumer durables are colour TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing
machines. Double income families, rising income level, increasing awareness among consumers are
driving growth of this industry and easy financing avenues fueling the market. OBJECTIVES This
paper is an effort to study the change in consumption pattern of consumer durables and its effects
on the Indian economy. It tries to establish a relation between the growth of consumer durables
industry and the overall growth of the economy i.e. the change in consumption of these goods

Cross Cultural Issues Between China and Usa
Tourism and hospitality industry is a large industry where cross cultural incidents are always an
issue. A comparative study between Chinese and American culture will be made in social and
business context followed by a theoretical approach using cultural dimensions to explain the
differences among the cultures. The results will be used to suggest and recommend methods to
overcome cultural conflicts and tensions

Social behaviour and business etiquettes between Chinese and Americans are very different and
often will offend each other. The cultural dimensions of Hofstede and Trompenaars will be applied
to evaluate the cultural difference between Chinese and Americans in later part of the discussion.
These theories allow managers or relevant users to identify and rectify the problems that might have
arisen due to a cultural clash.
3.0Cultural awareness for tourism and hospitality
The tourism and hospitality industry is expected to have a rise of 4.2% in GDP per year which
is estimated to reach US$9.2 trillion by 2021. On top of that, statistics shows that 10% of the
worker on the planet will be employed in Travel amp; Tourism and related sectors (WTTC 2011
cited in LesRoches 2011). The world is ever changing and globalization is taking place.
Globalization is a worldwide integration and development of nations whereby all nations share a
certain element in common. For instance, English is the most widely used language in the world
where English is actually not the mother tongue for more than half of the world s population.
Nations are working together to produce a better tomorrow. However, it is also debated that
globalization has led to the loss of individual cultural identities. Giles amp; Middleton (2008:149)

Comparing The Parthenon To The Pantheon
The Parthenon is an Ancient Greek building sitting on the acropolis of Athens. To compare it to the
Pantheon is quite a feat, but they don t have as many similarities as one would imagine. The
Parthenon of Ancient Greece serves as a temple, but it also had another purpose. The Pantheon
served as a monument and temple, to dedicate not only to the emperor of Rome but the gods and
the Christian god later on. The Parthenonsits at the peak of the Athenian acropolis and was certainly
a symbol of Athenian might. It represented not only the democracy of Athens, but especially the
imperial prowess of the short lived Athenian Empire. It was initially a temple devoted to the gods,
built by Pericles and his ambitious building program. The building, although it made the acropolis
much more grandeur than the acropolis burnt down by the Persians years earlier, represented
something much more than just spirituality it had a function. It was to hold the treasury of the
Delian League, the league that was created, which Athens led, to thwart the Persian threat.
However, overtime the Delian League became a league for Athenian... Show more content on

It was intended to be a temple that was perhaps dedicated to Mars, the god of war Agrippa had
just beaten Mark Antony and Cleopatra at the Battle of Actium, which had won Octavian the
Roman Empire and the war of the Second Triumvirate. ( Pantheon , 2015) It has been remolded
over the years, by Emperor Hadrian and subsequent regimes, but its purpose was still a religious
temple. It has an open rotunda with rounded walls and statues of the gods on the perimeter. This
has a grandeur interior, but the exterior isn t much to look at, which contrast much with the
Parthenon. Because the building was located within the crowded metropolis of Rome, the exterior
probably wasn t as important as the interior, which actually served the purpose of the building to

Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper
Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines
Opposing View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel
compared to freight trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe
because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations
regarding the use of a pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard
to human life and environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill.
Explanation of Two Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the
pipeline mode to transport fuel claim that it is responsible for numerous deaths that occur annually.
The rate of increased accidents is attributable to the fact that as a mode of fuel transportation,
minimal oversight, outdated pipes, and insufficient precautions subject... Show more content on

The authors contend that a majority of individuals often confuse ethics with acting in line with the
law, religious beliefs, and social conventions. Consequently, people depend on various principles
and concepts to differentiate between helpful and harmful behaviors. The opponents base their
arguments regarding the topic on the concept of law. According to their arguments, the pipeline
unlike other modes of transporting fuel is not well regulated. Likewise, its accidents are
catastrophic and often attract the attention of the government and the media. Therefore, the pipeline
should not be utilized as an alternative to transporting fuel because it is quite dangerous. However,
those with the opposing viewpoints base their arguments on social conventions. The opponents
claim that the pipeline is the safest way because the fatalities that result from the use of tanks or
freight trains are 70 times higher compared to that of the

Abstract. The Common Cold And Influenza Are Two Common
Abstract
The common cold and Influenza are two common illnesses of the upper respiratory tract. These
illness can often be mistaken for each other due to the overlapping symptoms. The two symptoms
that seem to present when the flu is occurring are a fever with a cough. Prevention is also similar
for both of the illnesses with the exception of an actual vaccine that can be administered annually
for flu prevention. Diagnosis can occur in the physicians office according to the individuals
symptoms that are presenting or by completing an rapid flu test. Treatments are also similar for
both the common cold and the flu because they are both caused by viruses, therefore a patient would

The symptoms of an upper respiratory tract infection can be caused by several other viruses and
bacteria. It is important to seek proper medical treatment to receive the correct diagnosis, which
will prevent severe illness and from spreading to other people.
The Common Cold. An acute viral infection of the upper respiratory tract is often spread by hand
contact from an infected person. This may be from direct, indirect, or aerosol of the secretions and
the virus (Allan and Arroll, pg 190). The common cold is often less severe than the flu but has
similar symptoms. The cold typically is a shorter mild illness with symptoms gradually occurring. It
is known to start with sneezing, sore throat, possible chills, and headache. As the cold enhances the
patient may present with nasal drainage or congestion and cough. A cold is preventable with
physical interventions, probiotics, and exercise. Physical interventions are extremely important in
preventing illness and preventing the illness from spreading. These interventions can include hand
washing, using alcohol based solutions, gloves, masks, and gowns (Allan and Arroll, pg 192). The
most common treatments for the common cold include antihistamines, decongestants, antitussives,
and acetaminophen. One study of guaifenesin found no benefit; in another, 75% of participants
reported that guaifenesin was helpful for their cough, compared with 31% given placebo (Allan

Spark s RDDs function as a working set for distributed programs that offers a (deliberately)
restricted form of distributed shared memory. [3]
The availability of RDDs facilitates the implementation of both iterative algorithms that visit their
dataset multiple times in a loop, and exploratory data analysis, which is the querying of data
repeatedly. The latency of applications builds with spark compared to Hadoop, a MapReduce
platform may be reduced by several orders of magnitude. [3]
Another key aspect of apache spark is that it makes writing code easy and quickly. This is as a
result of over 80 high level operators included in with spark library. This is evidence as spark
comes with a REPL an interactive shell. The REPL can be used t0 test the outcome of each line of
code without coding the entire job. As a result, ad hoc data analysis is possible and code is made
much shorter.
Apache Spark is well complemented with set of high level libraries that can be easily used in the
same application. These include Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLlib and GraphX which we will
explain in details in this paper. 2Spark Core
Spark core is at the base of the apache spark foundation. It provides distributed task dispatching,
scheduling, and basic I/O capabilities which is exposed through a common API (JAVA, Scala,
Python and R) centered on the RDD concept. [1] As the core it provides the following:

Essay On The Colony Of Virginia
The colony of Virginia was founded by a stock company: the Virginia Company. To attract people
Virginia made a wonderful charter. Emigrants who paid their own way to Virginia got fifty acres of
land. There would not be mere tenants. Civil authority would control the military. A council of
burgesses, representatives chosen by the inhabitants of the colony for their government, would be
convened as the House of Burgesses. The governor could veto their actions and the company still
had overall control of the venture, but the settlers would have a say in their own government,
including the right of the House of Burgesses to introduce money bills. The King s court appointed
a royal governor, someone who had never set foot on the land of... Show more content on

The governor chose six people in the colony to be in his council. The other fifteen people were
chosen by the king because of their family and wealth. In all, there were twenty two members that
attended. All the representatives were English. Each of the Virginian counties had sent a
representative to the house. The first meeting was on July 30, 1619. It was held in the choir of the
church on Jamestown Island. It lasted for six days, but was cut short by the disease, Malaria.
Problems began to strike, like a massacre from the Native Americans where they killed 400
colonists. As hard as the government tried to conceal the problems, the king heard about them. He
made virginia a crown colony. The king divided the colony into eight shires. By 1643, there were
15 shires! Most jobs were simply commanded to people. Only the representatives got votes to
represent. Each shire would send a vote for a representative to go and work in the House, rather
than have it be just rich people. White men that were seventeen years old or older and owned land
were able to vote for these representatives. In 1652, Oliver Cromwell forced Jamestown to admit
that they had been taken over. However, that did not mean that their

The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay
Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother
The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the
system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating
others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in
general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84
Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic
religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed
the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio
biological role .85
Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a
crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for
misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such
gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save
us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits.
This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the
male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87
The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of

According to Eric Foner in his book Give Me Liberty! , there were major arguments against the
Constitution put forth by the anti federalists. The anti federalists were opponents of ratification
who insisted that the Constitution shifted the balance between liberty and power too far in the
direction of the latter. Basically their main belief was that a too powerful central government is a
threat to liberty and will continue to influence American political culture. Anti federalists were state
politicians and included Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Patrick Henry. They drew their support
from small farmers in more isolated rural areas such as the Hudson Valley of New York, western

The story, The Cave, is about Socrates metaphor about a cave. This story is also written like a
western philosophy. The metaphor that Socrates tries to tell us about in his story, The Cave, is
about how education has changed us. This story is about a group of people who have lived in a
cave since they were born and none of them have been outside of the cave. Since the groups of
people lived in the cave forever they can t look outside the cave because they are just so stuck to
the idea of being in the cave forever like prisoners. In the cave they have a fire going and a wall

The Changing Place of Slaves and Slavery in the American Nation
In the beginning as early as 1502 the European slave traders shipped 11 to 16 million slaves to
America. The English colonists had indentured servants instead of slaves. Indentured servants were
servants that had a contract and only worked for a certain period of time. African American slaves
were used when the English men were running out of indentured servants. The first African
American slave was in 1619. They also had Irish, Scottish, English and German indentured servants.

And it shows no clear connection between social identity and votes for the Republicans or

By 1662, the partus sequitur ventrem principle was adopted by the southern colonies. It openly
discriminated the slaves by confining them into a certain category of population. Their children
were supposed to inherit the status of their mothers regardless of whom the father was. In other
words, they would still be non citizens. This was prompted by the enactment of several
legislations like the 1712 Slave Codes which was later adopted by nearly all the colonial states.
Together with many amendments and court rulings, this migrant group was stripped of American
citizenship alongside other privileges exclusively reserved for the whites. It clearly stipulated that
no slave shall enjoy freedom of movement, association, sell or buy a property, be taught how to
read and write, employed, demand for payment, plant corns, domesticate pets or possess any goods
or weapons. If so, and caught, they would be punished by whipping, nose slitting, branding,
chopping off the ear, castration or killing (Stockwell, 2012).
The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order issued to the agencies of the United States
by President Lincoln during the civil war that proclaimed that all slaves in the Confederate
territories be forever free. The Emancipation Proclamation was limited in many ways. It applied

New York s Fresh Kills Landfill
The city that never sleeps also happens to be a city that has an enormous garbage problem that it
needs to solve. Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the
beginning or stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where
its trash is piling up and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most
cities across the United Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfillopened
in 1948 and was only intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it
became the largest landfill in the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping
ground for the second half of the 20th century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving
twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each and every day. In March of 2001 Fresh Kills reached

Cybele Art Analysis
The first artwork I chose was August Rodin s piece titled Cybele is the body of the goddess of
Mother Earth. This piece was made in 1904 as an inspired piece of Michelangelo s damaged
classical and incomplete work. The piece s present location is in the Lillie and Hugh Roy
Cullen Sculpture Garden outside of the Museum of Fine arts. The piece is a 3 D model of a
body with no arms or a head. This made out of casted bronze which makes a very smooth
composition. Rodin s achievement as a sculptor was to find a way to make the brute materiality of
sculptureexpress the fleeting mobility of the modern individual. To achieve this, he abandoned the
polished and idealized figures of academic sculpture and produced rougher, more unfinished
surfaces, which better expressed restlessness, corporeality, and movement. While this often suggests
psychological agitation, it also evokes the constant motion characteristic of life in modern times. I
choose this piece because the nude human body is a very beautiful thing to me as it symbolizes
innocence and vulnerability. This second piece from an unknown artist from the Hellenistic era in

In January 2014, The Washington County School District in Tennessee received sixteen cameras
because it was selected out of the twenty districts in the state to launch a new security camera
program so that it can monitor teacher effectiveness. The cameras hadn t been removed from the
boxes before the project was suspended indefinitely (neotoday). This was because parents and the
community were outraged by the idea of the school being transformed into an invasive, zero

cameras Ken Trump, president of National School Safety and Security Services, believes that the

the Belleville Education Association named, Mike Mignone, told the board members that the
money could have been spent on tools and technology that actually improve our students education .
Likewise, many parents and teachers would argue the same and would oppose security cameras.
The addition of new security cameras would be an unnecessary expense which will not contribute
to children s learning, and therefore shouldn t even be given any priority compared to children s
education. Another point to be made is that

Case study of Boeing Dreamliner
Title of case: Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Critical Facts:
Boeing is the world s largest manufacturer of military and commercial aircraft, which was founded
in 1916 by William Boeing and Navy Engineer Conrad Westervelt in the name of Pacific Aero
Products Company in Seattle, which after active participation in World war I was renamed to Boeing
Airplane Company (Frederick, 2014).
Boeing produced several hundreds of B 17 Flying fortress during World War II which became the
U.S Bomber. In 1950 s Boeing faced a tough competition from its opponent McDonnell Douglas
which was good at manufacturing propeller aircraft. Due to the increased reputation of its
competitor, Boeing entered into the field of manufacturing commercial Jet aircrafts in a ... Show

Because of this tool, Boeing wanted to collaborate its partners planning schedules and progress in
work so as to ensure that no delay in manufacturing. But Exostar which opted by Boeing posed
problems during its runtime. Also as a part of cultural difference and due to lack of trust on other
suppliers some of the vendors involved in 787 design did not input accurate and timely
information. As a result of this inaccurate information Boeing had not discovered the problems at
the early stages and in a timely fashion (Zhao, 2012).
Boeing during 2003 lost its share value to Airbus which is a strong opponent to it (Boeing
Corporation, 2014). In order to regain its value in the market Boeing decided to design an
aircraft by enhancing its customers. So in the process of designing a new aircraft Boeing
decided to use composite carbon fiber instead of regular aluminum to an large extent which had
not been implemented in the past. Because of this composite fibers Boeing estimated to decrease
the cost of travel for its passengers and to increase fuel efficiency. But this step backfired in
getting air bubbles on the skin of fuselage and nose during assembling of aircraft which resulted in
delay of 787 Dreamliner (Pearlson Saunders, 2013)

Therapeutic Aspects Of Photodynamic Therapy
The therapeutic properties of light have a long history. The ancient Indians discovered, in 1,000
BCE that light therapy, in addition to psoralens, a plant compound, could cure vitiligo (Barr, H. et
al., 2002). In the early 20th century, Niels Finsen s and his wife s treatment of lupus vulgaris with
ultra violet lightnotably earned them the Nobel Price (Barr, H. et al., 2002). A more modern
application of light s theraputic properties is photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy destroys
tumours through the use of a photosensitizer, oxygen, and light in a wavelength specific to the
photosensitizer (Brown Ibbotson, 2009, p. 251; Barr, Kendall, Reyes Goddard Stone, 2002, p. 136).
First, the photosensitizer is administered (Brown Ibbotson,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is used in the detection of cancers, the targeting os photosensitisers, and for monitoring the
response to therapy (Celli et al., 2010). The same photosensitisers that are used in photodynamic
therapy can be used to outline cancerous tumours, especially useful for resections (Celli et al.,
2010). Photodynamic therapy works best when photosensitisers are targeted to tumours to avoid
side effects. The fluorescence of photosensitisers can be used to monitor their accumulation in
tissues (Celli et al., 2010). The fluorescent properties of photosensitisers mean that they can be
used for therapy and imaging and the same time (Celli et al., 2010). Before photodynamic therapy
can take place, the tumour must be assessed (Celli et al., 2010). Other information, such as
vascular patterns, which can be discerned from imaging, are useful for planning treatment (Celli
et al., 2010). Fluorescent imaging can also help in determining placement of fibres for light
delivery (Celli et al., 2010). One of the most successful uses of fluorescent imaging with
photodynamic therapy is in the treatment of macular degeneration (Celli et al., 2010). The
compound fluorescein is used to detect leaky areas in blood vessels, which are the targets for
photodynamic therapy (Celli et al., 2010). Fluorescent imaging is also used to monitor the dose
response to photodynamic therapy (Celli et al., 2010). Fluorescence has been used to determine the

indicates that a six sided portable storage container can be a combustible or noncombustible
enclosed storage unit with varying dimensions ranging from small portable rental storage units to
large freight containers. The Technical Committee on Sprinkler System Discharge is unaware of
fire tests, and no design guidance is furnished. A table was also added as Table A.5.6, Examples

Large container storage of household goods. That applies to your scenario. To get you started,
check with the client on the commodities that will be stored inside the portable moving
containers. Typically, household items have a range of commodity classifications from Class I
through expanded Group A plastics in the form of foam cushions or mattresses. Since the
commodities may vary, the worse case scenario of expanded Group A plastics may be a starting
point. The container storage would not qualify as rack storage and would match closer to solid

Human Health Care System Is On The Brink Of Collapse
The Philippines has provided the world with skilled medical professionals for decades. But as
more and more workers abandon the Philippines for higher salaries abroad, public health experts
say the country s health care system is on the brink of collapse. Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan
This above quote is from a former Philippine health secretary commented about the brain drain
crisis regarding the health professionals, occurring right now in the Philippines. The phenomenon
known as the brain drain is the emigration of skilled, intelligent and highly skilled personnel from
a country. The Philippines have been exporting medical professionals since the early 1960 s and
this has been an issue ever since. Due to increase in migration of nurses and doctors, the Philippines
medical development has stalled for many years and one can even state that their medical quality
has dropped dramatically. (Philippine Medical Brain Drain) It is important to note that the
government is responsible for the brain drain of medical professionals in the Philippines and they
have failed to improve the living quality and payment of these medics. As a result of this, these
doctors and nurses chose to move to a more developed country for better living condition and better
pay. Even though the Philippines are gaining profit from brain drain of these medical professionals,
the negatives of this crisis covers up the positives. Furthermore, evidence has shown that the brain
drain is more harmful than

The Description Theory of Meaning Essay
The description theory of meaning was proposed independently by Bertrand Russell and Gottlob
Frege as a response to some of the fallacies of the reference theory. Description theorists propose
that instead of being a simple word world relationship , meaning is derived from descriptions
associated with certain objects and stored in our mind (or senses in Frege s case). Frege and
Russell s accounts of the theory differ subtly in how they view descriptions. Several objections have
been made against the theory, but only the most important objections will be raised. These include
Strawson s objection to the attributive use. Also, the problems of ignorance and error raised by
Kripke tarnish the description theory s attractiveness. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allows him to extend the Description Theory to almost every meaning. The extension of the
theory to names seems natural as when one refers to someone, they often add a description. For
example, The fat slob of a father on the Simpsons explains just who Homer Simpson is. This
analysis helps the Description theorist to overcome some of the problems which plagued the
Reference Theorist. This theory is an improvement on the reference theory, as it is much better at
explaining some of the features of language, such as why we explain proper names with
descriptions if asked.
Comparing Frege and Russell s Theories
While having essentially a similar message, there are some key differences between the two
original Description theorist s hypotheses. Both the theories can pick out a specific referent
indirectly with something like a description. However, while the emphasis is the same, Russell s
analysis appealed to the description as being something within a competent user s mind, whereas
Frege saw these descriptions as senses. He described these as being platonic entities, thus
objective, whereas the referents they picked out as being subjective. These abstract objects are
used to determine how reference can be made in the concrete world. Russell argues that there are
not two levels of semantic significance in his theory, so that when his theory is logically
formulated, it has a general nature ,

The many consequences
Daniel Choe
Student from University of Utah
United States stradius101@gmail.com Abstract This paper discusses plagiarism and its many dire
consequences in the realm of the computer science academia as well as the software industry.
I. INTRODUCTION
Plagiarism is an issue that cannot be taken likely both in the academia and the software industry.
The consequences of plagiarism are widespread and the issues that follow can be personal,
professional, ethical, financial and legal. Plagiarism is not only destructive to the individual who
committed the infraction, but can also be damaging to one s teammates, company, educational
institution, as well as possibly thousands or millions who rely on the software. As a result, it is
important to iterate the severe consequences as well as the negative impacts that can and will
occur from plagiarism to increase prevention of such cases as well as to properly understand what
is considered to be an infraction and to take care of avoiding infractions.
II. ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT IN THE ACADEMIA

Child Language Development
Language is a system in which sequences of sounds make up words to signify a person, place, idea,
or object and eventually becomes a tool through which we communicate. Language development
starts at birth with crying. Infants cry to communicate their needs are not being met. At around six
months infants begin to form consonant vowel chains; this is the start of babbling, an essential pre
linguistic skill and milestone in languagedevelopment. Around the age of eleven months the child
will say begin to say their first words, and language continues to develop throughout life. Like many
other areas of development language development is influenced by the culture the infant grows up
in.

Solar Energy Is The Best Type Of Energy
When you close your eyes and think of solar energy, what do you see? Your response is most
likely something positive such as an innovative, efficient, and renewable step forward into the
future. Solar is also thought of to be the best type of energy because the sun will never go away.
Well, solar energy will have to battle it out with natural gas and oil in the near future. As the price
of oil and natural gas continues to drop, solar energylooks less desirable as other sources become
more affordable in the short term (Sanburn 38). Josh Sanburn, author for Time Magazine, does
have a relevant point while discussing solar energy s competitors. The handful of solar energy s
positives makes it easy for the green thumbed consumers of today to overlook the many
negatives. The negatives are very important though when on the topic of something that could
possibly determine the future of the whole world s energy productivity. The number one issue
with the continuation of solar energy is the price. The main solar energy companies try to sell
their panels by repetitively saying that the panels will save money in the long run. Yet solar
energy was the most costly energy source for kW/hr in 2015. The rooftop solar craze is wasting
billions of dollars a year that could be spent on greener initiatives. It also is hindering the growth
of much more cost effective renewable sources of power. Solar energy is able to stay relevant
because of the large amount of subsidies placed by the

Justice In Aeschylus s Oresteia
Aeschylus s Oresteia illustrates justice as being subjective and evolves throughout the plays to
become increasingly complex. In Agamemnon, justice is synonymous with revenge and seen as
simply being part of fate. The Chorus highlights this when they say, Fate is grinding sharp the
sword of Justice and go on to relate that as long as Zeus exists this is simply a fact of life (1565).
The idea of revenge as justice is also seen in the Chorus description of the plunderer plundered and

revenge of the death of Iphigenia and the revenge from the sins of the house of Atreus on Aegisthus

Four Starry Night Summary
In this article Four starry Nights by Anna Frebel, a German astronomer who is passionate about
discovering the oldest stars in the universe. Four Starry Nights from the authors account takes
place over four days. She travels from Boston to Las Campanas Observatory three times a year
to assist with unscrambling mysteries of the Milky Way. Each evening she stays at the
observatory cost more than $50,000, so each day of this trip should be planned out carefully
(Frebel, 2012). Anna s typical workday would last from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 A.M. As part of her
observation preparation, she would visit with the observatory staff to discuss new findings and
review what has taken place since her last visit. She stars by pulling out a list of dwarf galaxy
stars, ordered by priority. She chooses the first star and asks the operator to move the telescope
into position so that she can begin collecting starlight data. The article states that her research
primary focuses on stars in ultrafaint dwarf galaxies. This article goes onto discuss that after the

this produces high absorption. When the opposite is true, the absorption is small (Frebel,

only controlled movements of wastes that lacked financial value, usually destined for final disposal

wastes that possess financial value, usually destined for recycling and recovery operations. These
amendments enabled Australia to meet all of its obligations under the Basel Convention.

Berkeley College conducted a comprehensive program that analyzed companies such as AT T. This

Telecommuting requires little investment compared to the projected return on the project. Though
financially it seems that implementing telecommuting is a positive investment, the Blue Apron
company is still relatively small and new compared to other larger companies such as AT T who
have implemented telework into their company. This means that are certain precautions that the
company should take prior to investing. The recommendations are that in making decisions about
which employees will be designated for telework. Companies should review their quality of work of
the employee and their productivity levels. Telework can be said to increase productivity of the
employees, but it is possible that if telecommuting put into place that the quality of the employees
work could begin to suffer. Furthermore, it is imperative to ensure that their positions are
appropriate. For instance, telecommunicating would best serve data processing tasks, bookkeeping,
or accounting jobs. For positions within the Blue Apron company that are more geared towards
collaboration and innovation as telecommunicating can lead to isolation in the workplace because it
can create a barrier between teams, one that in the traditional workplace is not present. Also, make

themes and perspective are used to portray the Aborigines as technologically inferior and
overwhelmed against the Europeans. In both texts, the Indigenous people are represented as... Show

When the girls do collapse onto the ground, Molly sees an eagle soaring in the sky above them.
This eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and
safety in Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the
Aboriginals are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this
scene, the camera shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the

and the elders praying in an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can

The Ho, Roberts And Gelman Article, Essentialism And...
The Ho, Roberts and Gelman article Essentialism and Racial Bias Jointly Contribute to the
Categorizations of Multiracial Individuals examined the joint effects of cognitive biases and social
biases on hypodescent. Loosely, hypodescent can be defined as individuals penchant to categorize
mixed race individuals into solely the raceof the minority category (Ho et al., 2015). While
previous studies have examined the effects of cognitive biases and social motivation on
hypodescence respectively, the authors were motivated by the dearth of available studies that
examined the effects of cognitive biases and social motivations jointly. Since both cognitive biases
and social motivations require higher levels of cognitive processes, it can be inferred that the
researchers would endorse a top down view of perception, especially when it comes to racial
categorization(Psych 240 Lecture 9/14/15). The researchers hypothesized that subjects who
exhibited essentialist thinking the belief that individuals belong to specific discrete groups in
which members share inextricable qualities in conjunction with high levels of anti black bias
would exhibit hypodescence, by categorizing Black White multiracial individuals into solely a
Black racial category. Since essentialism plays an integral role in the article, it is fruitful to
examine the concept using different perspectives. Perhaps the most obvious way to think of racial
essentialism is to view it in the terms of categorization. In

(Beck, pg. 157). The Tribal assembly organized by the plebeians elected the tribunes and made
laws for common people (Beck, pg. 157). In times of crisis a dictator would be elected and he
had absolute power over laws and the army (Beck, pg. 157). Their rule lasted only six months
(Beck, pg. 157). Dictators where chosen by the consuls and elected by the senate (Beck, pg.
157). An advantage of an authoritarian monarchy is that it unified china. A disadvantage is that
it took away the people?s freedom. An advantage of a benevolent monarchy/tyrant is that the
people would not rebel because they were treated fairly. An advantage of theocracy in Israel was
that people did not commit crimes a lot because doing so would violate their religion. One of the
problems with this government is that the leader could have too much power. That could lead to
revolts like it did with King Solomon. An advantage of a confederacy was that it allowed small
city states to defend themselves against big empires. A disadvantage is that one state may gain too
much power. (Athens) Sparta?s mob rule was disadvantageous because the majority of the people

Public Media And The Media During The Vietnam War
The role public media played in the Vietnam war was unprecedented: television brought live
images even video clips to Americans sitting room, photographs and reports from the war front
brought the latest news of the battles, documentaries and films depicted the sensational stories
from the war and war heroes. Bearing so many social influences, medias were somewhat blamed
for being responsible for the loss of war by many historians. Most of them attributed the
responsibility to the television which undermined the political and military efforts, and to the
journalists and broadcasters who opposed the war finally led to the burst of domestic anti war
sentiments. But that is not true. (New American Nation) With eloquent supporting evidence, U.S.
domestic medias during the Vietnam war was not the major contributor to the cease fire and the
loss of the Vietnam because they pertain supportive biases within reports in general. Also for their
effort of postponing yet hampering the transfer of sensitive reports to the public under government
censorship. Lastly for the ineffectiveness of reports in changing public opinion shown in the poll.
Media during war time usually have biases, those during Vietnam war had no exception. While
many people perceive the media s biases to be opposing the war, against military authority,
revealing the vile practice under the surface, newspapers and journalists before 1968 was almost
supportive to the efforts war per a military historian Ronald

Internal Changes In England During The 16th Century
During the sixteenth century England experienced many political, social and religious changes.
England was still recovering from the turmoil of the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) as well as
dealing with many other internal conflicts. Soon after the end of The Hundred Year war, civil
wars now referenced as the War of Roses broke out. These civil wars were a result of rivalry
between branches of the royal house of Plantagenet; the House of Lancaster and House of York
who fought sporadically for many years between 1455 and 1487. Other internal problems were
related to the unstable monarchy, and conflict between leading religions of Protestants and
Catholics in England. Henry VIII Edward VI and Mary I were all rulers following the Hundreds
Year War. As a result of all the financial strain from this war as well as tensions from internal
conflict, these leaders rules were ineffective in terms of finding compromise and rebuilding
England. The sixteen hundreds in England was referred to by historians as The Golden Age or
Elizabethan Era. This was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603) rose to power and ran a
monarchy that was able to temporarily settle conflicts and establish a sense of peace in a country
that had been fighting both external and internal forces for decades. The Elizabethan era was also a
time of renewal and development in music and the arts of England. It was during the sixteenth
century that Italian culture, art, and music became very popular in England.

The Discovery Of Economy Essay
It is a pristine tradition that much matters to a nation, when it comes to issues irrelevant to human
development. Speaking in terms of reality, the economic boom of a nation is what human
development all about.
Now let us profoundly analyze what exactly is the economic boom of a nation. As we begin our
analysis, it is highly important for the reader to be enlightened with the fact that it is necessary to
think the right way if he has to understand this immensely valuable message. The reader will have
to discredit all economic and political concepts and thoughts in considering the planet earth as a
single nation and its people as just its citizens with no individual nationalities. Thinking this way
alone can make this message more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are the sole root cause for the bias in the standard of living in the USA with that of Nigeria or
Somalia or any other impoverished region of this earth.
According to the modern concept and thought, every one of us is keenly interested to know how
nature has created us and how the universe came into existence but none has ever tried to wonder
at the interrogative word why . Why has nature created us together on a single planet, why not
Blacks, Whites, Asians, the Yellow race and the Semitic race, each on a different planet? It was the
duty of the dynamic and charismatic leadership of this world to teach humanity how to peacefully
co exist and mutually live on this earth as unified, uniform and united body of humanity. Was it not
possible for the nature that devised everything in order, to create life on other planets in our
planetary neighborhood? With these questions on our minds we can easily arrive at a conclusion
that we the citizens of the nation earth are a single nation and one family. The cream of this world s
entire human layers, masses and races irrespective of nationality or religion were destined to
demonstrate the planet earth and its people from any nook and corner of its expanse that they are
its citizens, the earthlings.

Hunted Out Language Analysis
In chapter 3, the repeated phrase hunted out (or hunt out ) sticks out the most because the
phrase is such a hard hitting and vivid word choice. The first time I noticed the use of this phrase
was on page 63, Kingston explains that her mother wanted privacy, so she hunted out a secret
hiding place at school. In this context, the use of hunted makes her seem like a scavenger, trying
to find her own little habitat that she could mark as her own territory. Hunted is deliberate,
instead of merely stumbling upon a secret place, which simply gives it more power. It gives it
more power not only to the reader, but for Kingston as well because it s her word choice, and she
wanted to convey her mother in a certain aspect. Using hunted as... Show more content on

Hunt out is used here instead of hunted, which I think gives it a different connotation as well.
Hunt is active and present, which coincides with the fact that she s using self defense against the
Ghost. The final use of this that I noticed is on page 77. Kingston s mother hunted out seed
shops, so now we re going back to the past tense of hunt. Both this third usage and the first usage
of hunted gives the idea of her actions being premeditated. What I find most interesting about the
general use of this phrase is that I connected immediately to the previous chapter, White Tigers,
because Fa Mu Lan was a warrior; she trained, hunted, fought for survival. This connects to the
use of hunt in that she is essentially giving her mother an undertone of Fa Mu Lan s
characteristics, much like how she wants to attribute Fa Mu Lan s characteristics to herself. By
giving her mother this attribute, it makes sense that she hunts for these things, whatever they may
be, because she is a warrior in her own right, and it is only right for Kingston to describe her
actions in this way in order to convey that she, too, is comparable to Fa Mu

Satire Tone In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130
Shakespeare uses conceits with a satirical tone in sonnet 130 and personification with a determined
tone in sonnet 116 to realistically convey that good looks are not necessary for love.
In sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses conceits to describe the eyes of his mistress as nothing like the
sun and coral as far more red than her lips red (lines 1 2). The idea of him not loving this woman
because she is not traditionally good looking is disproven by the fact that Shakespeare cared
enough to write a sonnet about her. Truly, if this woman was not loved she would have gone
unremembered and unwritten about. The satirical tone of sonnet 130 can be perceived as rude, but
the tone more accurately is used to show a loving couple that make fun of each other s small faults:
the breath that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Shakespeare s sonnet 116 he realistically describes love in more of a romantic way, but still
conserves the realism of love lasting through rough times. In this sonnet personification is used
to describe how as death approaches, good looks fade, but if two people s love is true, then their
deep affection will not end because of this: Love s not Time s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
/ Within his bending sickle s compass come (lines 9 10). The personification of love and time
brings forth the idea of them physically stealing a loved one s outer beauty; however, if two
people are truly in love, the loss of one s beauty should not matter as described later in sonnet
116 and in the tone. The tone of determination is used to describe how if two people have a
strong enough bond, their love should last through the hard times in life: Love is not love / Which
alters when it alteration finds, / Or bends with the remover to remove (lines 2 4). The affection
between two people should not be changed or taken away, if their love does change, then they did
not have determination to love in the first place. Both of these sonnets show great representations of

How Nutrition Affects Our Mental Health
Introduction In the modern era of medicine, doctors have been making discoveries about how
nutrition affects our mental health. They are making connections between the diet of an
adolescent and how it affects their moods. An example that has been sweeping the nation, is

children in their adolescent stages. In a classroom of 30 children, 1 3 of them will be diagnosed
with ADHD, and a quarter the of children with ADHD have serious learning disabilities such as:
oral expression, listening skills, reading comprehension and/or math difficulties. (Ryan, 2010).
Those children that are diagnosed with ADHD are usually prescribed psycho stimulant medications,
such as methylphenidate , otherwise known as Ritalin , as the primary method of treatment.
(Chandler, 2010). But a few questions arise are children misdiagnosed with a mental disorder,
when there is simply a diet flaw that could be changed? Are children eating highly processed foods
with too much sugar, being diagnosed with ADHD, but in actuality they have a surplus of sugar
or a bad diet? Parents are searching for answers, on what are the best ways to treat their children.
Some doctors believe that changing a child s diet, by eliminating processed foods can help
alleviate symptoms. However, there are doctors, who believe this is untrue. Presented, in this paper,
are the many sides of the argument can changing a child s diet

Global Security Challenges Facing The United States Military
There will be significant global security challenges facing the United States Military by 2025. The
U.S will face multiple, coinciding security issues from state actors and regional networks all taking
full benefit of rapid science and technological changes. Three overlapping conflicts which has the
greatest potential to influence state and non state actors and forcethe Armed Forces to restructure
their formations are Wars of Silicon, Iron, and Shadow. The United States must design an
innovative readiness and investment strategy to successfully deal with all three. These innovative
concepts support Combatant Commanders so; they can win in full spectrum operations and defend
U.S. interests at home and overseas. QDR 2014 provides the framework to counter these threats,
which are, rebalance for full spectrum conflicts, prioritize U.S. posture to protect U.S. interest, and
rebalance the capability, capacity, and readiness of the Joint Force. Joint Force 2025 will need to
rebalance, be technologically superior, prioritize capabilities to deter hybrid adversaries, implement
and mitigate stringent risk control measures; in addition, contend with the multifarious budgetary
constraints.
The War of Silicone the greatest example of hybrid strategies will require the Armed Forces to
adapt, be innovative, and re prioritize programs within their organizations. This war represent the
high bar a potential U.S. faceoff against a state or non state actors who will use

Comparison Of Zika And Ebola Virus
Over the years man has been confronted with many trials and hurdles, but Zika and Ebola virus
are the definitely the most notable of the modern times. Generally we come up with very clever
solutions to medical problems, after all, we have had many years of experience. Zika is a subtle,
easily transmitted, virus first found in monkeys living in Uganda in 1947. It was then found in
humans in 1952, and spreading to South America starting the largest outbreaks in modern times.
This virus is present in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Pacific. Ebola, on the other hand, is a
whole different ballgame. The symptoms are violent and set on fairly quickly. First discovered in
1976, Ebola has made headlines only recently. We shouldn t forget that this... Show more content on

Zika and Ebola both have taken people by surprise. Eighty percent of the people infected with Zika
do not even develop symptoms. In turn, this halted the awareness of the disease. When the Ebola
outbreak started to spread the usual fierce announcement of the virus was delayed, and even after
the presence of the virus was announced, it had already spread too much. The difference between
the two viruses is the action taken by the countries. Guinea and other Ebola plagued countries,
with the help of international health organizations, took measures to inform and help the public
after an initial delay. This came with obvious effects; Guinea has left the forty two day period
(two Ebola incubation cycles) and entered the ninety two day enhanced surveillance period with
no cases whatsoever. During this period any suspected cases will be immediately handled with
extreme care. In Brazil, however, corruption, poor sewage and water systems, and negligent health
care providers have not helped in the fight against Zika. The rainforests that have been chopped
down in Brazil are just one giant breeding ground for mosquitoes that carry Zika, and this is just
amplifying the spread of the virus. Within the African rainforest, recent periods of drought
alternated with wet seasons spread the virus. After a prolonged period of drought the fruit trees will
stop producing fruit and the animals will grow hungry. When

Sexual Harassment At The Workplace
Part B
As seen in the case study, a court decision may be one way for any company to legally define what
constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, but there are many ways to define sexual
harassment. Everyone has different views and tolerance levels towards sexual harassment. When a
case of sexual harassment occurs in a workplace, however, it comes down to how the courts
define sexual harassment. The Supreme Court defines sexual harassment to be unlawful in two
ways. The first type involves sexual harassment that results in a tangible employment action; this
is referred to as quid pro quo. For example, if an employee complies with the harasser s request,
then she will get a raise. This unlawful act is usually presented in the workplace by a person
who has an upper hand, such as a manager, to ensure that s/he will get what s/he wants.
Employees are often victimized by fear that they will not get promoted or that they will get fired.
They also dread that if a complaint is filed, it will not be handled correctly. This instance of
sexual harassment always involves another violation of employee rights; [sic] wrongful
termination. This would occur, for instance, when a supervisor . . . tells a subordinate that . . . she
must be sexually cooperative with [him] or . . . she will be fired, and who then indeed does fire the
subordinate for not submitting ( U.S. Supreme Court Defines ). [schwinlaw.com]
Another form of sexual harassment is known as hostile work environment.

Compassion Case Study Essay
I have to say, I honestly struggled this week when brainstorming who to use for a case study. As
I thought long and hard, over a couple days, I was still at a loss. That is until I was at work and it
finally struck me; my senses and perception are vital to my job. Our senses and perceptions are a
part of everyday life that, at times, we take for granted. It isn t until we lose or are limited in the
functionality of one or more of our sensethat we realize how important and vital they are.
As a medical assistant at the University Of Vermont Medical Center, one of our main focuses in
patient care is that of Compassion. Compassion is a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for
another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong ... Show more content on

They expect to be greeted in a professional manner that is cold, uninviting, and at times, devote of

with a smile and ask them how they are, knowing that if they were feeling great, they wouldn t
be there. I still ask and, to my pleasant surprise, I see people light up because it s not as what you
d expect. And there s something joyful about it ((Seckel, 2004, Feb.). I frequently receive
comments regarding the kind and compassionate care they received from us while we took their
images for the day. They can see our expressions and in return we get to see the joy that, for that

  • 2. Economic Criticism Of Robinson Crusoe CRUSOE S QUEST FOR FORTUNE In Daniel Defoe s novel Robinson Crusoe the title character, Crusoe, left his country due to economic motives. Ian Watt has noted in his essay named Robinson Crusoe as a Myth that Crusoe observes nature, not with the eyes of a pantheistic primitive, but with the calculating gaze of a colonial capitalism; wherever he looks he sees acres that cry out for improvement, and as he settles down to the task he glows...with...purposive possession. Robinson Crusoe subjugated the island with the drive of Western European nations and exploited it with the formation of cultural hierarchy. I agree with Crusoe and his labors to commodify and take possession of his island because he used all relationships for his own benefit, ending convinced of his own superiority. In the beginning, Crusoe s desire for money drove him to go on a voyage to London. During this voyage, his ship was captured by a Turkish pirate, and Crusoe ended up enslaved on a Moorish port named Salle (Defoe 12). After two years of being held in captivity, Crusoe says I meditated nothing but escape, and what method to take effect (Defoe 13). He relied on his aptitude to help him through his escape, and since nothing presented itself, he ended up putting it into practice when he was sent to go fishing with a Moor named Ismael and a young boy named Xury. He brought up to the Moor s attention that they were not going to sustain themselves with the patron s bread so, then he brought biscuits and fresh water into the boat. Soon, after that he tricked the moor by saying our patron s gun are on board the boat, can you not get a little powder...it maybe we kill some alcamies for ourselves, for I know he keeps the gunner s in the ship (Defoe 15). Crusoe s ability to play tricks on Ismael clearly connects to his gaze of a colonial capitalist. Also, when Crusoe, Ismael, and Xury were fishing and a fish got caught on his hook he didn t pull them. Then, suggested to the moor that they should go deeper into the sea to catch more fishes in order to serve the patron s wishes (Defoe 16). Then, the moor agreed and Crusoe s strong determination to escape urged him to run the boat further out into the sea. When he was giving the boy the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Meanwhile, Jack created a new me to improve his life and the dissatisfied world, but Taylor controlled Jack s life, in other words, Jack fell into a world which is created by others, he seems has a normal life but was bound by life. In fact, Jack and Taylor are the same one because Taylor is another personality which is the idealism personality of Jake, but Jack is a weak materialist, and Taylor is a powerful idealist. Jack killed the Taylor, so he destroyed the Utopia, and ultimately return to real world. On the other hand, Pink Floyd s album The Wallalso reflect similar idea. The whole album has a clear story line, there are several songs, which is Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1, 2 , Mother , and Empty Spaces , talk about something happened in Pink such as Pink s father s dead, overprotective mother, tormented at school, and wife s betrayed which created the wall and isolated Pink from the outside; however, the wall is not all created by external factors, Loneliness is like a spiritual wall as a invisible limitation, and the wall is accumulated by all stages of life, which is not transferred by individual will. Pink s enclosed thoughts make the Wall indestructible which limit his behavior, until the last song Outside The Wall , Pink breaks the wall and go outside. • 4. The Demand For Branded Goods Essay INTRODUCTION Over these 68 years of independence, Indian economy has witnessed a drastic change in the pattern of consumption due to increase in level of income and purchasing power. Post 1991 economic policy reforms, there has been high degree of competition and mass production. There is immense positive change in demand for high end technologically advanced branded goods, stimulated by increased awareness and changing taste and preference spurred by demonstration effect. This would mainly be due to narrow difference in prices of non branded and branded goods. Attractive services and accountability provided by various brands also contribute to this increase in demand for branded goods. Post liberalisation, Indian markets were flooded by foreign goods and there was wide range of choice. Earlier, Indian consumer durable market was dominated by few domestic producers like Godrej, Voltas, Kelvinator etc. The main categories of consumer durables are colour TVs, refrigerators, air conditioners and washing machines. Double income families, rising income level, increasing awareness among consumers are driving growth of this industry and easy financing avenues fueling the market. OBJECTIVES This paper is an effort to study the change in consumption pattern of consumer durables and its effects on the Indian economy. It tries to establish a relation between the growth of consumer durables industry and the overall growth of the economy i.e. the change in consumption of these goods ... • 6. Comparing The Parthenon To The Pantheon The Parthenon is an Ancient Greek building sitting on the acropolis of Athens. To compare it to the Pantheon is quite a feat, but they don t have as many similarities as one would imagine. The Parthenon of Ancient Greece serves as a temple, but it also had another purpose. The Pantheon served as a monument and temple, to dedicate not only to the emperor of Rome but the gods and the Christian god later on. The Parthenonsits at the peak of the Athenian acropolis and was certainly a symbol of Athenian might. It represented not only the democracy of Athens, but especially the imperial prowess of the short lived Athenian Empire. It was initially a temple devoted to the gods, built by Pericles and his ambitious building program. The building, although it made the acropolis much more grandeur than the acropolis burnt down by the Persians years earlier, represented something much more than just spirituality it had a function. It was to hold the treasury of the Delian League, the league that was created, which Athens led, to thwart the Persian threat. However, overtime the Delian League became a league for Athenian... Hum 115 Oil Pipeline Research Paper Oil Pipelines Opposing Viewpoints Clayton Brooks HUM/115 Dr. Disque Oil Pipelines Opposing View Points Pipeline is the best alternative and safest mode of transporting fuel compared to freight trains or tanker tracks. However, there are those who argue that it is not safe because of lack of adequate resources to inspect them, as well as the absence of regulations regarding the use of a pipeline to transport fuel. Equally important, another issue is the great hazard to human life and environment that can be difficult to control or eliminate in case of a spill. Explanation of Two Different Points of View Regarding the Topic Opponents of the use of the pipeline mode to transport fuel claim that it is responsible for numerous deaths that occur annually. Consequently, people depend on various principles and concepts to differentiate between helpful and harmful behaviors. The opponents base their arguments regarding the topic on the concept of law. According to their arguments, the pipeline unlike other modes of transporting fuel is not well regulated. Likewise, its accidents are catastrophic and often attract the attention of the government and the media. Therefore, the pipeline should not be utilized as an alternative to transporting fuel because it is quite dangerous. It is important to seek proper medical treatment to receive the correct diagnosis, which will prevent severe illness and from spreading to other people. The Common Cold. An acute viral infection of the upper respiratory tract is often spread by hand contact from an infected person. This may be from direct, indirect, or aerosol of the secretions and the virus (Allan and Arroll, pg 190). The common cold is often less severe than the flu but has similar symptoms. The cold typically is a shorter mild illness with symptoms gradually occurring. It is known to start with sneezing, sore throat, possible chills, and headache. As the cold enhances the patient may present with nasal drainage or congestion and cough. A cold is preventable with physical interventions, probiotics, and exercise. Physical interventions are extremely important in preventing illness and preventing the illness from spreading. These interventions can include hand washing, using alcohol based solutions, gloves, masks, and gowns (Allan and Arroll, pg 192). The most common treatments for the common cold include antihistamines, decongestants, antitussives, and acetaminophen. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spark s RDDs function as a working set for distributed programs that offers a (deliberately) restricted form of distributed shared memory. [3] The availability of RDDs facilitates the implementation of both iterative algorithms that visit their dataset multiple times in a loop, and exploratory data analysis, which is the querying of data repeatedly. The latency of applications builds with spark compared to Hadoop, a MapReduce platform may be reduced by several orders of magnitude. [3] Another key aspect of apache spark is that it makes writing code easy and quickly. This is as a result of over 80 high level operators included in with spark library. This is evidence as spark comes with a REPL an interactive shell. The REPL can be used t0 test the outcome of each line of code without coding the entire job. As a result, ad hoc data analysis is possible and code is made much shorter. Apache Spark is well complemented with set of high level libraries that can be easily used in the same application. These include Spark SQL, Spark Streaming, MLlib and GraphX which we will explain in details in this paper. 2Spark Core Spark core is at the base of the apache spark foundation. It provides distributed task dispatching, scheduling, and basic I/O capabilities which is exposed through a common API (JAVA, Scala, Python and R) centered on the RDD concept. Emigrants who paid their own way to Virginia got fifty acres of land. There would not be mere tenants. Civil authority would control the military. A council of burgesses, representatives chosen by the inhabitants of the colony for their government, would be convened as the House of Burgesses. The governor could veto their actions and the company still had overall control of the venture, but the settlers would have a say in their own government, including the right of the House of Burgesses to introduce money bills. The governor chose six people in the colony to be in his council. The other fifteen people were chosen by the king because of their family and wealth. In all, there were twenty two members that attended. All the representatives were English. Each of the Virginian counties had sent a representative to the house. The first meeting was on July 30, 1619. It was held in the choir of the church on Jamestown Island. It lasted for six days, but was cut short by the disease, Malaria. Problems began to strike, like a massacre from the Native Americans where they killed 400 colonists. As hard as the government tried to conceal the problems, the king heard about them. He made virginia a crown colony. The king divided the colony into eight shires. By 1643, there were 15 shires! Most jobs were simply commanded to people. Only the representatives got votes to represent. Each shire would send a vote for a representative to go and work in the House, rather than have it be just rich people. White men that were seventeen years old or older and owned land were able to vote for these representatives. In 1652, Oliver Cromwell forced Jamestown to admit that they had been taken over. The Theological Concept Of The Divine Mother Essay Debates on the theological concept of the Divine Mother The 20th century feminist criticism of the systems of re presentation have attempted to expose the system of power that authorises certain representations while blocking, prohibiting, or invalidating others .83 Corrington further evaluates that if this is true for modes of expressing concepts in general, it is even more true for modes of expressing religious concepts .84 Moreover, summarising Ochshorn s argument for the expression of such concepts in monotheistic religions, Corrington states that the limitation of a deity to a single dynamic personality entailed the assignment to that persona of a gender that was perceived as the least limited in its socio biological role .85 Such expression is seen in early Christianity, when Jesus as the incarnation of God has become a crucial model for the saviour of the human race.86 In the work of Ruether who argues for misappropriation of the saviour figure in the early Christian thought, the discussion on such gender limitation takes the most dramatic turn: Who is this saviour, and from what does he save us? This saviour of men comes to free men from birth, from women, from earth, and from limits. This saviour can only come in the image of the male. As God can only be imaged as male, as the male is the proper image of God, so the saviour too must be male.... .87 The key to understanding this tension lies in understanding of both the aforementioned expression of ... Basically their main belief was that a too powerful central government is a threat to liberty and will continue to influence American political culture. DeBruce HIS 203: American History to 1865 Prof. Corinne Barker October 15, 2012 The Changing Place of Slaves and Slavery in the American Nation In the beginning as early as 1502 the European slave traders shipped 11 to 16 million slaves to America. The English colonists had indentured servants instead of slaves. Indentured servants were servants that had a contract and only worked for a certain period of time. This was prompted by the enactment of several legislations like the 1712 Slave Codes which was later adopted by nearly all the colonial states. Together with many amendments and court rulings, this migrant group was stripped of American citizenship alongside other privileges exclusively reserved for the whites. Whether this problem it be due to a mismanagement of resources from the beginning or stemming from the throw away culture of today, New York is in a situation where its trash is piling up and it s pawning it off on others to discard of it. New York City, like most cities across the United Sates utilizes landfills to dispose of their waste. Fresh Kills Landfillopened in 1948 and was only intended to be a temporary landfill used for 20 years, however by 1955 it became the largest landfill in the world as it was turned into New York s primary dumping ground for the second half of the 20th century. At the peak of operation Fresh Kills was receiving twenty barges carry 650 tons of waste each and every day. This piece was made in 1904 as an inspired piece of Michelangelo s damaged classical and incomplete work. The piece s present location is in the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden outside of the Museum of Fine arts. The piece is a 3 D model of a body with no arms or a head. This made out of casted bronze which makes a very smooth composition. Rodin s achievement as a sculptor was to find a way to make the brute materiality of sculptureexpress the fleeting mobility of the modern individual. To achieve this, he abandoned the polished and idealized figures of academic sculpture and produced rougher, more unfinished surfaces, which better expressed restlessness, corporeality, and movement. While this often suggests psychological agitation, it also evokes the constant motion characteristic of life in modern times. • 22. Therapeutic Aspects Of Photodynamic Therapy The therapeutic properties of light have a long history. The ancient Indians discovered, in 1,000 BCE that light therapy, in addition to psoralens, a plant compound, could cure vitiligo (Barr, H. et al., 2002). In the early 20th century, Niels Finsen s and his wife s treatment of lupus vulgaris with ultra violet lightnotably earned them the Nobel Price (Barr, H. et al., 2002). A more modern application of light s theraputic properties is photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy destroys tumours through the use of a photosensitizer, oxygen, and light in a wavelength specific to the photosensitizer (Brown Ibbotson, 2009, p. 251; Barr, Kendall, Reyes Goddard Stone, 2002, p. 136). Photodynamic therapy works best when photosensitisers are targeted to tumours to avoid side effects. The fluorescence of photosensitisers can be used to monitor their accumulation in tissues (Celli et al., 2010). The fluorescent properties of photosensitisers mean that they can be used for therapy and imaging and the same time (Celli et al., 2010). Dr. Jaime Galvez Tan This above quote is from a former Philippine health secretary commented about the brain drain crisis regarding the health professionals, occurring right now in the Philippines. The phenomenon known as the brain drain is the emigration of skilled, intelligent and highly skilled personnel from a country. The Philippines have been exporting medical professionals since the early 1960 s and this has been an issue ever since. Due to increase in migration of nurses and doctors, the Philippines medical development has stalled for many years and one can even state that their medical quality has dropped dramatically. (Philippine Medical Brain Drain) It is important to note that the government is responsible for the brain drain of medical professionals in the Philippines and they have failed to improve the living quality and payment of these medics. As a result of this, these doctors and nurses chose to move to a more developed country for better living condition and better pay. The Description Theory of Meaning Essay The description theory of meaning was proposed independently by Bertrand Russell and Gottlob Frege as a response to some of the fallacies of the reference theory. Description theorists propose that instead of being a simple word world relationship , meaning is derived from descriptions associated with certain objects and stored in our mind (or senses in Frege s case). Frege and Russell s accounts of the theory differ subtly in how they view descriptions. Several objections have been made against the theory, but only the most important objections will be raised. These include Strawson s objection to the attributive use. Also, the problems of ignorance and error raised by Kripke tarnish the description theory s attractiveness. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This allows him to extend the Description Theory to almost every meaning. The extension of the theory to names seems natural as when one refers to someone, they often add a description. For example, The fat slob of a father on the Simpsons explains just who Homer Simpson is. This analysis helps the Description theorist to overcome some of the problems which plagued the Reference Theorist. This theory is an improvement on the reference theory, as it is much better at explaining some of the features of language, such as why we explain proper names with descriptions if asked. Comparing Frege and Russell s Theories While having essentially a similar message, there are some key differences between the two original Description theorist s hypotheses. Both the theories can pick out a specific referent indirectly with something like a description. However, while the emphasis is the same, Russell s analysis appealed to the description as being something within a competent user s mind, whereas Frege saw these descriptions as senses. He described these as being platonic entities, thus objective, whereas the referents they picked out as being subjective. These abstract objects are used to determine how reference can be made in the concrete world. Russell argues that there are not two levels of semantic significance in his theory, so that when his theory is logically formulated, it has a general nature , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rodolfo and his wife were killed, the policeman survived.[2] This now meant the plaza would no longer be controlled only by the Carrillo Fuentes family. Instead, the city found itself the front line in a country wide drug war and would see homicides skyrocket as rival cartels fought for control. With this act, Guzman was the first to break the nonaggression pact the major cartels had agreed to, setting in motion the fighting between cartels for drug routes that has claimed more than 35,000 lives since December 2006. Representation of Indigenous Cultures Since the European settlement of Australia, the Indigenous people have been represented in a myriad of ways. The Rabbits (1998), an allegorical picture book by John Marsden (writer) and Shaun Tan (illustrator) and Rabbit Proof Fence (2002), a film directed by Phillip Noyce, are just two examples of this. Techniques such as music, changing camera angles and symbolism are utilised in Rabbit Proof Fence to represent the Aboriginal people as strong willed and spiritual and in The Rabbits, exaggeration, different colour themes and perspective are used to portray the Aborigines as technologically inferior and overwhelmed against the Europeans. In both texts, the Indigenous people are represented as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the girls do collapse onto the ground, Molly sees an eagle soaring in the sky above them. This eagle, as explained by Molly s mother in opening scene, was a symbol of protection and safety in Aboriginal culture. The appearance of this eagle in their time of need emphasises how the Aboriginals are truly bonded, psychologically and physically, to their land and culture. In this scene, the camera shifts back and forth between their elders back at Jigalong and the girls in the desert. This constant transition conveys the relationship between the girls (protected by the eagle) and the elders praying in an Aboriginal dialect for the girl s safety. With these few examples, we can see how the Indigenous people have a special bond with their land through their cultural religion, which, in return, assists them when it is needed. Powerlessness of the Numbats (Aboriginals) against the Rabbits (Europeans) in The Rabbits is shown through the use of words within the mise en scene. Within this picture book, Marsden contributes to the meaning of the story to the readers through very short, but powerful sentences such as: Sometimes we had fights/But there were too many rabbits/We lost the fights. • 38. The Ho, Roberts And Gelman Article, Essentialism And... The Ho, Roberts and Gelman article Essentialism and Racial Bias Jointly Contribute to the Categorizations of Multiracial Individuals examined the joint effects of cognitive biases and social biases on hypodescent. Loosely, hypodescent can be defined as individuals penchant to categorize mixed race individuals into solely the raceof the minority category (Ho et al., 2015). While previous studies have examined the effects of cognitive biases and social motivation on hypodescence respectively, the authors were motivated by the dearth of available studies that examined the effects of cognitive biases and social motivations jointly. Since both cognitive biases and social motivations require higher levels of cognitive processes, it can be inferred that the researchers would endorse a top down view of perception, especially when it comes to racial categorization(Psych 240 Lecture 9/14/15). The researchers hypothesized that subjects who exhibited essentialist thinking the belief that individuals belong to specific discrete groups in which members share inextricable qualities in conjunction with high levels of anti black bias would exhibit hypodescence, by categorizing Black White multiracial individuals into solely a Black racial category. Since essentialism plays an integral role in the article, it is fruitful to examine the concept using different perspectives. Perhaps the most obvious way to think of racial essentialism is to view it in the terms of categorization. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

England was still recovering from the turmoil of the Hundred Year War (1337 1453) as well as dealing with many other internal conflicts. Soon after the end of The Hundred Year war, civil wars now referenced as the War of Roses broke out. These civil wars were a result of rivalry between branches of the royal house of Plantagenet; the House of Lancaster and House of York who fought sporadically for many years between 1455 and 1487. Other internal problems were related to the unstable monarchy, and conflict between leading religions of Protestants and Catholics in England. Henry VIII Edward VI and Mary I were all rulers following the Hundreds Year War. As a result of all the financial strain from this war as well as tensions from internal conflict, these leaders rules were ineffective in terms of finding compromise and rebuilding England. The sixteen hundreds in England was referred to by historians as The Golden Age or Elizabethan Era. This was the era in which Queen Elizabeth I (1558 1603) rose to power and ran a monarchy that was able to temporarily settle conflicts and establish a sense of peace in a country that had been fighting both external and internal forces for decades. The Elizabethan era was also a time of renewal and development in music and the arts of England. It was during the sixteenth century that Italian culture, art, and music became very popular in England. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first time I noticed the use of this phrase was on page 63, Kingston explains that her mother wanted privacy, so she hunted out a secret hiding place at school. In this context, the use of hunted makes her seem like a scavenger, trying to find her own little habitat that she could mark as her own territory. Hunted is deliberate, instead of merely stumbling upon a secret place, which simply gives it more power. It gives it more power not only to the reader, but for Kingston as well because it s her word choice, and she wanted to convey her mother in a certain aspect. Using hunted as... Hunt is active and present, which coincides with the fact that she s using self defense against the Ghost. The final use of this that I noticed is on page 77. Kingston s mother hunted out seed shops, so now we re going back to the past tense of hunt. Both this third usage and the first usage of hunted gives the idea of her actions being premeditated. What I find most interesting about the general use of this phrase is that I connected immediately to the previous chapter, White Tigers, because Fa Mu Lan was a warrior; she trained, hunted, fought for survival. This connects to the use of hunt in that she is essentially giving her mother an undertone of Fa Mu Lan s characteristics, much like how she wants to attribute Fa Mu Lan s characteristics to herself. By giving her mother this attribute, it makes sense that she hunts for these things, whatever they may be, because she is a warrior in her own right, and it is only right for Kingston to describe her actions in this way in order to convey that she, too, is comparable to Fa Mu ... Satire Tone In Shakespeare s Sonnet 130 Shakespeare uses conceits with a satirical tone in sonnet 130 and personification with a determined tone in sonnet 116 to realistically convey that good looks are not necessary for love. In sonnet 130, Shakespeare uses conceits to describe the eyes of his mistress as nothing like the sun and coral as far more red than her lips red (lines 1 2). The idea of him not loving this woman because she is not traditionally good looking is disproven by the fact that Shakespeare cared enough to write a sonnet about her. Sexual Harassment At The Workplace Part B As seen in the case study, a court decision may be one way for any company to legally define what constitutes sexual harassment in the workplace, but there are many ways to define sexual harassment. Everyone has different views and tolerance levels towards sexual harassment. When a case of sexual harassment occurs in a workplace, however, it comes down to how the courts define sexual harassment. The Supreme Court defines sexual harassment to be unlawful in two ways. The first type involves sexual harassment that results in a tangible employment action; this is referred to as quid pro quo. For example, if an employee complies with the harasser s request, then she will get a raise. This unlawful act is usually presented in the workplace by a person who has an upper hand, such as a manager, to ensure that s/he will get what s/he wants. Employees are often victimized by fear that they will not get promoted or that they will get fired. They also dread that if a complaint is filed, it will not be handled correctly. This instance of sexual harassment always involves another violation of employee rights; [sic] wrongful termination. This would occur, for instance, when a supervisor . . . tells a subordinate that . . . she must be sexually cooperative with [him] or . . . she will be fired, and who then indeed does fire the subordinate for not submitting ( U.S. Supreme Court Defines ).
