Human Relationships In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Thomas...
Human relationships are so heavily complex due to fact that there are hostile and compassionate
aspects to them. Also, these complex relationships make it possible to be physically close to someone
without being emotionally connected to them. This is shown in the excerpt from The Mayor of
Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy through the characters Mayor Henchard and his daughter Elizabeth
Jane. The Mayor and his daughter have a critical and unloving relationship resulting from their
previous estrangement and his judgmental personality. This relationship is also one sided because
Elizabeth constantly tries to adhere to her father s critiques after their reconnection, but he remains
cold and harsh. Their relationship is presented as toxic through the ... Show more content on

He wants his to improve Elizabeth s unsophisticated tendencies so she can blend into his life as town
royalty (mayor), but again he was not always so sophisticated. After judging her speech, he moves on
to criticizing her handwriting skills. He believed that way proper young ladies wrote was about their
sense of a refined womanhood, which Elizabeth clearly did not posses. As she wrote to his dislike, he
says, Never mind I ll finish it. Thus, this again shows as Elizabeth attempts to please her father s
wishes he grows more distant and cold toward her. At the end of the passage it says, the more
interesting that her appearance and manners became....the more she seemed so estranged to him. This
proves that the chance of Elizabeth making her father proud is almost impossible because he remains
closed minded toward her. The final use of the word estranged to describe how her actions impacted
their relationship shows that even though they live in the same house they are strangers on an
emotional level. The detailed encounters between Mayor Henchard and Elizabeth shows just how cold
hearted and unloving their alleged father daughter relationship is because he never tried to accept
Elizabeth for who she was before they

Eukaryotic And Prokaryotic Of Cells
There are two major groups that cells can be grouped into to. These are eukaryotic and prokaryotic
cells. All eukaryotic cells contain a plasma membrane, as well as cytoplasm and organelles such as
mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, smooth ER, ribosomes, a nucleus
which is surrounded by a double membrane known as the nuclear envelope, and secretory vesicles.
There are some eukaryotic cells which contain more organelles as well as theses. Some eukaryotic
cells, specifically in plants, have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are organelles that contain stacks of
granum known as thylakoid stacks. The granum contains chlorophyll, and the first stage of
photosynthesis occurs here. Some eukaryotic cells contain centrioles, which are strands of protein
involved in the process of mitosis and meiosis. Pant cells have a cell wall made from cellulose. This
prevents the cell from bursting from too much water uptake via osmosis. Fungi do not have
chloroplasts. They do have a cell wall like plant cells, but whereas the cell walls in the plant cells are
made from cellulose, the cell wall in a fungal cell is made from chitin. This is a polymer made from N
acetylglucosamine. Prokaryote is the name of a kingdom for organisms, and all bacteria fall into this
kingdom. The prokaryote kingdom is enormous, and prokaryotes are found in every known habitat on
the planet. Bacteria are very useful, they can be used in biomedical sciences to help develop
medicines, and

Utopia In John Foster s Story The Machine Stops
In Fosters story The Machine Stops he displays two points of view into the utopian society ruled by
the machine, which prove Rothstein s Idea that one man s utopia is another man s dystopia. The first
character in his story, Vashti, Is content with her life and would consider society close to a utopia. The
second character, Kuno, Vashti s son, is not as pleased with his situation. The clashing opinions give
the reader a lot to think about when considering Rothstein s idea.
Vashti, the woman at the beginning of the story, lives out her days as many other people of this time
do, sitting alone in an arm chair in the middle of their room. Everything is brought to her at a moment
s notice, which makes moving from her spot a seemingly pointless thing to do. For her, everything is
good enough . When she refers to the way the machine cannot display the emotions of another, while
talking with her son, she disregards the imperfection saying that the idea this communication is an
idea that was good enough for all practical purposes. She goes on to say in her narration that
something good enough had long since been accepted by our race. For her, good enough is perfect. ...

But for some reason she seems to worship the machine for things that it has been expected to provide
her with, such as food and clothes and shelter, not to mention things like music and literature.
Everything she could ever need or want was given to her at the press of a button. For this, she
performs a ritual whenever she consults The Book of The Machine , a book which gives the use of
every button in her room, along with other information regarding the machine, such as the schedule of
the air ships. Her ritual consists of her holding up her book and chanting O Machine! three times
followed by kissing the book three

Slows Down The Aging Process
1. Slows Down the Aging Process
A study done by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine tracked 500 older runners
over the span of 20 years. At the end of the study, researchers found that runners had fewer
disabilities, were half as likely to have an early death and had a longer span of active life when
compared with nonrunners. When researchers began studying the runners in 1984, they had predicted
that running would do the elderly more harm than good. Many people believed that runners would
experience more orthopedic injuries. The study showed that the opposite was true.
2. Aids in Weight Loss

Ways Of Seeing By John Berger
Rebecca Morin
Professor Foster
English Composition
10th, December, 2015
Ways of Seeing by John Berger is a set of essays used to explain different techniques used in oil
paintings, advertisements, and the way people look at things differently from one another. The abstract
image Altera Pars by Wojciech Grzanka is a part of his surreal photo manipulation series called It s All
In My Head . In this image a woman clearly with two sets of arms shows that she is control of how
and what she feels. Her attire shows mixed feelings on how she wants to be looked at. She is wearing
a dress that fades away towards the bottom and underneath she is wearing pants. She stands
comfortably in a room that is grungy and dirty. Women and men should not be condemned to live up
to society s expectations of what is right and wrong. The third chapter in Ways of Seeing focuses on
the idea that women and men have a different social presence. A man s presence is supposed to
represent how much power he has. The more power a man has the more grand and important he seems
to other people. It represents what he can do to people and for people. A woman s presence is
represented by how she views herself and what she is willing to deal with from other people. She is
also defined by her clothes, her actions, opinions, and what or who she is surrounded by. She has to
act as if she was two different people, she is to observe herself and pay attention to the presentation of
herself as other people do. Their

The Idea Of Eliminating Waste, Also Known As Muda, From
The idea of eliminating waste, also known as muda, from various processes has been sought after and
practiced for centuries. Waiting for a product that isn t being processed wastes time, excess inventory
wastes space, and underutilization of employees wastes creativity. Lean may seem somewhat new,
considering it was only formally identified in the 1990 s, however, there are now many businesses that
put emphasis on the importance of lean. Some companies, such as Boeing, even have organizations
focused on the implementation of lean. During the Boeing tour, it was evident that the company has
put a lot of effort into incorporating lean systems into many of its internal functions at the Everett
plant. In manufacturing, the fuselage automated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example would be the color coded vests employees wear. Blue vests represent materials
management, brown is leadership, green is quality, so on and so forth. This makes it much easier to
spot an employee from any function within Boeing, which eliminates wasted time. Our in class
discussion about Boeing s standardization of tool boxes also reappeared during the Boeing tour.
Though it hasn t been fully implemented yet, Boeing has required its employees to use the tool boxes
provided by Boeing every day to standardize work methods. This ensures that the quality of work and
methods used are consistent. Boeing further exhibited its commitment to the continuous improvement
of its systems by forming a team dedicated to the planning and implementation of lean. Boeing has
been recognized as a leader in lean innovations, but there are still many other companies striving
towards leaner processes. According to a recent news article, GE Healthcare has implemented a very
interesting use of new technology in its repair operations center in Milwaukee. With the use of self
driving warehouse vehicles called OTTO , GE has been able to reduce the size of its repair stations by
40%, which means a sizeable cut in inventories. GE uses an entire fleet of OTTOs to deliver parts to
workstations that perform thousands of repairs of medical devices weekly. How does OTTO do this?
Parts are delivered on demand directly from the pick up point to the required destination, always

How Christmas Has Changed Over Time
History has affected many things over the years. However, people and places aren t the only things
that were affected by our history, but the way we celebrate Christmas has been changed too. Although
Christmas is still a very traditional holiday, the introduction of new and more modern things has
shaped the way we celebrate this incredible holiday today. How we celebrate Christmas has changed a
lot due to the growth of other religions, the invention of technology, and the growth of conflicts in
certain areas. First, as more and more religions have started and increased in popularity, Christmas has
adjusted. However, none of the new religions have ever wanted to stop Christmas. In Christmas Is Not
Just For Christians by Siddique, A Hindu, named Ramalingam stated, I don t know anyone who
actually wants to ban Christmas and most Hindus and Muslims that I know actually celebrate
Christmas (Siddique 1). Instead, they volunteer to work at the Christian charities so that the Christians
can celebrate Christmas (Siddique p.1). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Mara Hughes from 5 Ways Technology Changed the Holidays, technology has caused
people to shop for gifts online, call their relatives online, send online Christmas cards, and check and
use the Santa Tracker (Hughes p.1). This means that gifts are easier to buy because you can sit at
home all day, rather than going shopping in the cold. People can see their relatives and friends from
across the world face to face through a video call rather than having to fly out once a year. Christmas
cards are now sent through email with season s greetings rather than printed off and sent in the mail.
Santa can now be tracked throughout the months of November and December, making children s
spirits rise with excitement as they send Santa their wish list to Santa over the

It All Started When I Was Born
I was born on January 20th, 1999, in the town of Bloomington, Indiana. I come from a Venezuelan
family and I am the middle child of three; one younger brother and one older sister. Throughout my
childhood, there has been a bountiful amount of great memories in my life. There simply isn t one
memory in particular or small group of memories that I would classify as my greatest memories . My
greatest memories consist of simply spending time with my family, such as being on vacation at the
beach and celebrating Christmas. The sense of unity and feeling of passion and love from that time

I volunteered to help the setup and operation of my church s annual summer festival for the
community at large every year. I also help out my school community and church community by

Throughout my academic career, I held leadership positions during my work in National Honor
Society, Link Crew, and as a student ambassador and catechist. At my high school, I received the
honor of Academic Excellence in Trigonometry and graduated Cum Laude. I also received
scholarships including the Dexter High School Alumni scholarship and the Dexter Lions Club

likes or dislikes throughout my academic career.
The reason why I chose to become a business major is because I enjoy dealing with people, whether it
be problem solving as a group or completing a task as an individual; business majors are always
needed in corporations. I decided to study at Michigan State University, the Eli Broad College of
Business is ranked one of the top business schools within the nation along with their other business

environment a bit more. Career goals that I have set for myself include becoming active on campus,

Tyto Alba s Diet Analysis
Discussion:
After 24 (1992 2016) years 2,176 pellets were analysed by the students at the County College of
Morris. Additionally, on average each pellet contained 2.6 prey equating to an average of 963 prey
discovered in owl pellets per year (Table 1). After the analysis of the pellets it was discovered that the
Tyto alba consumed a wide spectrum prey, primarily rodents. A total of six prey species were
discovered. The Microtus commonly known as voles were the most abundant prey in the Tyto alba s
diet. Three thousand six hundred and twenty three remains of the Microtus were identified in pellets
that were analysed with a relative abundance of 64.2%. Microtus is most abundant in temperate and
tropical regions, a common habitat for the Tyto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, there were factors that had a negative impact on the study such as the misidentification of
prey. The remains of the consumed prey were small and very fragile which made them prone to
breakage. Additionally, before the pellets were transported to the County College of Morris for
analysis, they were stored and preserved in a lab at the Carolina Biological Supply Company. This
made it difficult to figure out if the prey composite was the Tyto alba s year round diet or if the
dominant species that were consumed depended on the season. In the future the time between when
the owl pellets are gathered to when they are analyzed should be reduce to give a more accurate data
about the Tyto alba s

What Is Holden s Opinion Of The Catcher In The Rye
Throughout the novel The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the main character Holden Calfied
gives us his opinion on many topics. However, he also tells us lies, and he is obviously not thinking
entirely clearly at many points. But I do believe that Holden is right about children are innocent and
pure in three ways; Holden s ideas, my own experience, and the information I gathered. In the novel
The Catcher in the Rye , the main character Holden had a brother called Allie. He was really nice and
intelligent. Everybody liked Allie, but he died at the age of ten. Holden misses him terribly. And he
seems to idealize all the children. He thinks that children are innocent and untainted by adult world
and he is revere of the purity of the youth. I agree with him. I think one ... Show more content on

For example, the reason he left Elkton Hills is because he thinks all the people there are phonies. He
saw Mr.Haas shook hands with funny looking parents and gave them a phony smile. And he walked

It drives me crazy. It makes me so depressed I go crazy. I hated that goddamn Elkton Hills. (Salinger,
14) Holden thinks that adults are insincere and hypocritical. But kids are not phonies, they are pure
and cute. When Holden sneaks into his home and sees Phoebe sleeping, she had her mouth wide open.
It s funny. You take adults, they look lousy when they are asleep and they have their mouth way open,
but kids don t. Kids look all right. Another reason that I think Holden loves children is because he
wants to protect all the people who are vulnerable. For example, Jane Gallagher was Holden s
neighbor, but Jane had a lousy childhood. Holden got nervous when he knew Strandlater dating Jane.
He said I kept thinking

Taking a Look at Surrogate Mothers
Surrogacy is a controversial issue nowadays. Surrogacy allows a woman to give the gift of parenthood
to a couple who would otherwise not have been able to experience it, either due to infertility or
inability to adopt a child. In some cases, the surrogate can obtain monetary compensation for her
services. According to Anderson (1990), A commercial surrogate mother is someone who is paid
money to bear a child for other people and to terminate her parental rights, to lead to a situation that
the others may raise the child as exclusively their own.
In the aspect of the intended parents, there are reasons for people who need the surrogacy service.
Firstly, Intended mothers can have a huge variety of health issues that make pregnancy impossible or
undesirable. For instance, some women s womb cannot support a fetus that they may miscarry for
many times that cannot get pregnant successfully. Secondly, there are also women that have biological
problems which affect their ability to reproduce. The reproductive system is complex and can cause
various ailments which make pregnancy impossible. Thirdly, some women may turn to surrogate
mothers because of severe health problems. While the woman may be healthy enough to be an
effective mother, her body may be unable to survive pregnancy. For example, some women would
choose to use a surrogate mother because they have heart problems which may cause the mother to be
unable to survive in a traditional child birth. There are also women that

An Unmanned Aircraft System ( Uas )
On Saturdays in the fall, more than 50,000 people pack themselves into Bill Snyder Family Stadium to
watch the Kansas State University Wildcats play football. More fans occupy the parking lot
surrounding the stadium, and even more can be found in satellite parking lots farther from the stadium
(K State Athletics). Game day at K State is busy for local law enforcement members. Police must
remain on high alert for any kind of suspicious activity in order to keep the public safe. With so many
people in such a large area, it can become difficult to for officers monitor everything. One possible
answer to the human problem of not being able to be everywhere at once includes an inhuman object.

From 20,000 feet, ARGUS can magnify something as tiny as six inches on the ground. It has the
potential to recognize faces and record license plates. Memory space is no issue, as ARGUS has the
ability to record up to 5,000 hours of footage (Koerner 2015). This type of drone surveillance would
capture a drug dealer making a sale to some tailgaters, locate the parking stall where a man needs
medical attention after indulging in too many jalapeno poppers or track a pickpocket through a crowd.
As far as crowd surveillance goes, the use of drones appears to be a no brainer. But this type of
surveillance can also be a gateway into privacy concerns.
According to Black (2013), today s rapidly changing drone technology carries the potential to violate
the privacy rights of an individual. Numerous drones also carry the potential to threaten privacy in
society as a whole. (Black 2013).
Moving beyond crowd surveillance, drones are raising a lot of questions in reference to the Fourth
Amendment that protects citizens and their houses, papers and effects from unreasonable searches and
seizures (U.S. Const. amend IV). As drones have the potential to become important tools in police
investigations, there are many situations presented that fall outside of the Fourth Amendment s
regulation but fit in well enough to raise it as an issue (Koerner 2015).
The concern centers on everything even a simple drone is capable of. The Parrot AR 2.0 come

An Aesthetic Experience
To have an aesthetic experience there are two criteria that need to be met. The first is paying close
attention to intrinsic features. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of
our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young
children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a
difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this
at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of
the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of
our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick
it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to
pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned
that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well
they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young
students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. I am very bad at imagining
things so I would have a difficult time conjuring up a picture of a person in my mind to draw. I am
also not very good at drawing and when I draw people they are mostly

The Field Of Social Welfare Policy Gilbert And Terrell
The article The field of Social Welfare Policy by Gilbert and Terrell discussed the Field of Social
Work Policy. Gilbert and Terrell describe the six essential institutions activities that take place in the
community; Kinship, Religion, Workplace, the market, Civil society, and Government. Kinship
describes how family serve as an emotional, social, and economic support for individuals. Things such
as values, skills, and behavior patterns are channel from one generation to another generation.
Furthermore, families are crucial in the social welfare field. Some family members care for the elderly
in their family, disable relatives, and grandparents caring for their grandchildren. Religion empathizes
on the spiritual aspect of the human society. The religion aspect discusses the informal support,

Symbolism In The Nightmare Before Christmas
The Nightmare Before Christmas originated in a poem written by Tim Burton in 1982 that was later
published October 13, 1993 as a film with his original hopes of making The Nightmare Before
Christmas a short film turned out to be a smashing hit out of his many films. Tim Burton s films often
show mysterious worlds filled with wonder and horror that bring us to see the world in new ways that
we never knew. In this film just like many other of Burton s films the character is searching to find a
new meaning to their life, or even going out of the way to make their life better by filling the empty
void by finding a certain something or someone. What begins to puzzle the reader or viewer is when
confusion comes up on who the bad guy or monster is in reality.
Our main character Jack is faced with hardship of not being understood and not being able to find
what is needed to fill the empty void within him which is said in that of Jack s Lament Performed by

Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts
During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson s language arts classes conducted an
experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they
received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be
redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the
world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. Be kind whenever possible. It is
always possible. These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who dedicated
his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the world in a
manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it, nevertheless, by
performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may comprise of merely
retrieving a fellow student s fallen pencil can have profound effects on society, for these acts tend to
spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may develop into thousands
of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world. While not uncommon,
random acts of kindness do not occur as frequently as devastating events, so they tend to appear rarely
in the media. The Huffington Post, however, compiles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to swim and help propel you through the water. The leg was designed by Goldstein who used a

I don t think that people without handicaps realize how big of a deal it is to be able to jump into the
water and keep yourself afloat. To be able to swim and play with your kids or friends is taken for
granted. Obviously, it is not only swimming that is tough for people with handicaps. Swimming is just
one more way we can work to bring them some joy again. I really enjoyed this article and thought it
was a great choice, because I think it is wonderful that people are constantly working to make people
with handicaps lives easier. I have not personally dealt with someone in my family with a disability,
with some motor function like their legs, but I had to be on crutches for two weeks when I was in
middle school, and it was hell. If I simply hated dealing with crutches for two weeks, I cannot imagine
people who have had them for years and years to come. Making life easier and more accessible for
these people is a great use of time and money. I love everything about this practice, except the fact the
insurance will not cover prosthetics. I believe in a few years once it becomes less expensive and the
business grows that insurance companies will finally jump on board. They may seem expensive now
but it is almost a brand new technology. They will always have high startup costs. It is the next step in
medical technology and many people suffer from these disabilities, so we must help them every way
we can. When people suffer from a disability like this, they simply don t get enough exercise because
it is much more difficult and dangerous. Without giving these people access to this leg is cruel because
they will only get in worse shape. I hope that Lasko can swim comfortably with his kids from now on,
and now we just need to keep on advancing with this technology. These prosthetics will simply keep
on improving being able to do more and more for the user. I have seen a prosthetic arm that can move

ancestry. She is a second generation, native born American citizen with a graduate degree and ten
years of experience with her current employer. Maria has filed a complaint against her company
because she believes she was unfairly eliminated as a candidate for a promotion because of her

highly qualified for the promotion because of the years she has worked for the company and her
educational background. However, the promotion was given to Alex, an Angelo, who has had less
time with the company but has better job evaluations. Maria also claims that the reason for her low job
evaluation is because of a built in bias on part of her White male supervisors because she is the only
woman and the only person of color in the department. Maria alleges that the company is engaging in
discriminatory practices, however, the company states that Maria has had disciplinary action against
her regarding attendance, she is loud and aggressive with co workers and that the ability to clear
communication was an imperative element of the position. My objective is to evaluate this case

Traditional Beliefs Of The M Ā Ori And The Rural Urban...
Whenua is the Māori term for land, it also refers to placenta (notion of birth). Land was and still is
extremely important to the Māori people. From the time the Maori people set foot on Aotearoa, their
way of life is highly revolved around the land. They have an immeasurable respect for the land and it
holds the utmost significance. This essay will explore traditional beliefs of whenua such as the
creation myth and the importance of Tāne. It will also discuss the importance to the Māori and how
the loss of land (after the Treaty of Waitangi) played such a significant role. It will also explore the
location of Māori and the rural urban drift, from the 1940s and still very much evident in today s
society, as well as the influence of Pakeha and other cultures. My theory is that the significance of the
land has changed overtime from traditional usage; to the way it is today. The traditional beliefs such as
Māori myths play an important role to whenua. The creation myth involving the separation of
Papatūānuku and Ranginui created light in a world, which was previously full of darkness. The gap
created from Papa and Rangi created the land and the sky. In most creation traditions Tāne mahuta

A New Barbie Commercial Challenges
A new Barbie commercial challenges us to question, What happens when girls are free to imagine they
can be anything? ( Imagine the Possibilities ). Mattel has created an inspiring and thought provoking
ad. The ad, titled Imagine the Possibilities, was developed and published by Mattel as a promotion for
Barbie Dolls. The ad was originally published on Mattel s YouTube channel (Rose). To create a
successful advertisement, Mattel targeted a particular audience. A very specific purpose was kept in
mind as Mattel created the ad. Rhetorical appeals were boldly used throughout the ad to capture the
audience s attention.
In the ad, five young girls pretend to be working professionals. The reaction of nearby adults is caught
by hidden cameras. The audience is first introduced to Gwyneth. Gwyneth walks into a college
classroom and announces to her new students that she will be their professor for the day. She jumps
right into a lesson about the brain. Gwyneth keeps her students on their toes when she says cute things
such as, There is no high school for the dog. We then see Brooklyn, the veterinarian. Brooklyn is
dressed in a white doctors coat with a cat shirt underneath. She has her hair braided into pigtails and a
stethoscope around her neck. She has even made herself a nametag that says doctor. At first, pet
owners seem skeptical about letting Brooklyn examine their pets, but they warm up to the idea pretty

Confronting Demons In Walt Disney s The Lion King

Hour 3
Confronting Demons in The Lion King All people have events in their past they are not proud of, that
they d like to forget about. This idea is very present in Walt Disney s The Lion King. Overwhelmed by
guilt from the death of his father, Simba leaves Pride Rock to find solace in physical escape. In the
end, though, he only discovers that the pain from his past keep appearing. In The Lion King, Disney
argues that one can t move on from their past until he confronts it. He does this by differentiating
between characters giving good advice and bad advice, and by comparing Simba s happiness at the
end with his sadness in the middle.
One way Disney accomplishes this is by highlighting which characters are giving ... Show more

When he s with Timon and Pumba, for instance, he professes that life is hakuna matata , no worries ,
but in reality he s riddled by guilt underneath. When Timon and Pumba accidentally make fun of his
dad when they re talking about stars, for example, Simba laughs nervously, then goes off alone. When
Nala runs into him and says his mom will be surprised to know he s alive, Simba responds timidly
with She doesn t have to know . He later snaps at Nala when she prods him to return, showing how his
nervousness about his past easily turns to anger. In addition, immediately after Scar is killed and
Mufasa lets out a Remember! from the sky, Simba lets out a small smile. While it looks like a smile of
relief more than happiness it still confirms he s slowly moving on. The final scene offers an even
starker contrast: when all the animals have gathered for the presentation of his new son, Simba is
clearly smiling and surrounded by his friends, mother, and wife. Even though it s a stereotypical
happily ever after ending, this and all the examples above underscore Disney belief that denying one s
past allows guilt and pain to always fester underneath; tackling it head on is the only chance to true

Human s Closest Living Representation
Chimpanzees
1) Introduction:
Chimpanzees are considered as human s closest living representation, possessing numerous
characteristics and similarities of our genetics. Scientifically named Pan Troglodytes, they are widely
classified as great apes under the Hominidae family and are one of the species in the genus Pan.
Chimpanzees are only found in one continent in the world, Africa. They are distributed throughout the
central and western regions of Africa, specifically Tanzania and Uganda.
In a physical aspect, chimpanzees are generally much smaller in size. The chimpanzee, which is
approximately four feet high, weighs differently depending on gender. Males usually weigh 90 to 120
pounds, while females weigh between 60 to 110 pounds ( Chimpanzee ). Chimpanzees usually have a
lifespan of roughly 50 to 60 years, depending on whether they are in captivity or the wilderness. Their
body is mostly covered in black hair with the palms, ears, and face ranging from pale pink to black.
Like humans, chimpanzees have flat faces, forward facing eyes, enormous ears, and relatively small
nostrils. These features have significant implications on a chimp s senses (Jane Goodall Institute).
They have a short neck that connects to a bulging jaw, which is accompanied by large canines. These
colossal canines help with their diet that mostly consists of nuts, leaves, meat, plants, and fruits. The
male canines are notably huge compared to those of females, because male canines are used for

Sacramental Marriage In The Catholic Church
The union between a baptized man and a baptized woman is known as a sacramental marriage in the
Catholic Church. The two people make a covenant of life and love to each other through the vows
given at the ceremony. Not all people receive the sacrament of marriage because they are called to
another vocation. This sacrament requires preparation and communication between the couple. They
have many decisions that have to be made, involving how their children will be raised. Both the man
and the woman must be open to having children, have free consent to get married and are to stay; with

I believe what the Catholic church teaches. God sent us here for a reason and a sacramental marriage
is what I feel I am being called to receive. I want to get married because of the idea of having children
has always interested me. A sacramental marriage to me, means that a woman and man will get
married and stay with each other until death. I think that it is very important to stay with the one you
marry because it shows that you are not breaking a covenant that you made. We are to live out the
Paschal Mystery through marriage. There are difficult times and happy times. The difficult times help
the couple grow closer together, along with the happy ones. Everyone has difficult times in their life
and when you are married you have someone with you through it all. This also means that I will be
married for life and not get a divorce, knowing that the Church does not acknowledge a divorce. I
agree with the church s teachings because a child needs both a mother and father to raise them fully.
Having children in the Catholic Church means that you will raise them in the faith. I believe that this
is very important because we were sent here to procreate. While teaching our children about the faith,
it can help the Catholic Church

  • 2. Human Relationships In The Mayor Of Casterbridge By Thomas... Human relationships are so heavily complex due to fact that there are hostile and compassionate aspects to them. Also, these complex relationships make it possible to be physically close to someone without being emotionally connected to them. This is shown in the excerpt from The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy through the characters Mayor Henchard and his daughter Elizabeth Jane. The Mayor and his daughter have a critical and unloving relationship resulting from their previous estrangement and his judgmental personality. This relationship is also one sided because Elizabeth constantly tries to adhere to her father s critiques after their reconnection, but he remains cold and harsh. Their relationship is presented as toxic through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wants his to improve Elizabeth s unsophisticated tendencies so she can blend into his life as town royalty (mayor), but again he was not always so sophisticated. After judging her speech, he moves on to criticizing her handwriting skills. He believed that way proper young ladies wrote was about their sense of a refined womanhood, which Elizabeth clearly did not posses. As she wrote to his dislike, he says, Never mind I ll finish it. Thus, this again shows as Elizabeth attempts to please her father s wishes he grows more distant and cold toward her. At the end of the passage it says, the more interesting that her appearance and manners became....the more she seemed so estranged to him. This proves that the chance of Elizabeth making her father proud is almost impossible because he remains closed minded toward her. The final use of the word estranged to describe how her actions impacted their relationship shows that even though they live in the same house they are strangers on an emotional level. The detailed encounters between Mayor Henchard and Elizabeth shows just how cold hearted and unloving their alleged father daughter relationship is because he never tried to accept Elizabeth for who she was before they ... • 3. Eukaryotic And Prokaryotic Of Cells There are two major groups that cells can be grouped into to. These are eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. All eukaryotic cells contain a plasma membrane, as well as cytoplasm and organelles such as mitochondria, rough endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, smooth ER, ribosomes, a nucleus which is surrounded by a double membrane known as the nuclear envelope, and secretory vesicles. There are some eukaryotic cells which contain more organelles as well as theses. Some eukaryotic cells, specifically in plants, have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts are organelles that contain stacks of granum known as thylakoid stacks. The granum contains chlorophyll, and the first stage of photosynthesis occurs here. Some eukaryotic cells contain centrioles, which are strands of protein involved in the process of mitosis and meiosis. Pant cells have a cell wall made from cellulose. This prevents the cell from bursting from too much water uptake via osmosis. Fungi do not have chloroplasts. They do have a cell wall like plant cells, but whereas the cell walls in the plant cells are made from cellulose, the cell wall in a fungal cell is made from chitin. This is a polymer made from N acetylglucosamine. Prokaryote is the name of a kingdom for organisms, and all bacteria fall into this kingdom. • 4. Utopia In John Foster s Story The Machine Stops In Fosters story The Machine Stops he displays two points of view into the utopian society ruled by the machine, which prove Rothstein s Idea that one man s utopia is another man s dystopia. The first character in his story, Vashti, Is content with her life and would consider society close to a utopia. The second character, Kuno, Vashti s son, is not as pleased with his situation. The clashing opinions give the reader a lot to think about when considering Rothstein s idea. Vashti, the woman at the beginning of the story, lives out her days as many other people of this time do, sitting alone in an arm chair in the middle of their room. Everything is brought to her at a moment s notice, which makes moving from her spot a seemingly pointless thing to do. For her, everything is good enough . When she refers to the way the machine cannot display the emotions of another, while talking with her son, she disregards the imperfection saying that the idea this communication is an idea that was good enough for all practical purposes. She goes on to say in her narration that something good enough had long since been accepted by our race. For her, good enough is perfect. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the study, researchers found that runners had fewer disabilities, were half as likely to have an early death and had a longer span of active life when compared with nonrunners. • 6. Ways Of Seeing By John Berger Rebecca Morin Professor Foster English Composition 10th, December, 2015 Ways of Seeing by John Berger is a set of essays used to explain different techniques used in oil paintings, advertisements, and the way people look at things differently from one another. The abstract image Altera Pars by Wojciech Grzanka is a part of his surreal photo manipulation series called It s All In My Head . In this image a woman clearly with two sets of arms shows that she is control of how and what she feels. Her attire shows mixed feelings on how she wants to be looked at. She is wearing a dress that fades away towards the bottom and underneath she is wearing pants. She stands comfortably in a room that is grungy and dirty. Women and men should not be condemned to live up to society s expectations of what is right and wrong. The third chapter in Ways of Seeing focuses on the idea that women and men have a different social presence. A man s presence is supposed to represent how much power he has. The more power a man has the more grand and important he seems to other people. It represents what he can do to people and for people. A woman s presence is represented by how she views herself and what she is willing to deal with from other people. She is also defined by her clothes, her actions, opinions, and what or who she is surrounded by. She has to act as if she was two different people, she is to observe herself and pay attention to the presentation of herself as other people do. Their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Idea Of Eliminating Waste, Also Known As Muda, From The idea of eliminating waste, also known as muda, from various processes has been sought after and practiced for centuries. Waiting for a product that isn t being processed wastes time, excess inventory wastes space, and underutilization of employees wastes creativity. Lean may seem somewhat new, considering it was only formally identified in the 1990 s, however, there are now many businesses that put emphasis on the importance of lean. Some companies, such as Boeing, even have organizations focused on the implementation of lean. During the Boeing tour, it was evident that the company has put a lot of effort into incorporating lean systems into many of its internal functions at the Everett plant. Our in class discussion about Boeing s standardization of tool boxes also reappeared during the Boeing tour. Though it hasn t been fully implemented yet, Boeing has required its employees to use the tool boxes provided by Boeing every day to standardize work methods. This ensures that the quality of work and methods used are consistent. Boeing further exhibited its commitment to the continuous improvement of its systems by forming a team dedicated to the planning and implementation of lean. Boeing has been recognized as a leader in lean innovations, but there are still many other companies striving towards leaner processes. According to a recent news article, GE Healthcare has implemented a very interesting use of new technology in its repair operations center in Milwaukee. • 8. How Christmas Has Changed Over Time History has affected many things over the years. However, people and places aren t the only things that were affected by our history, but the way we celebrate Christmas has been changed too. Although Christmas is still a very traditional holiday, the introduction of new and more modern things has shaped the way we celebrate this incredible holiday today. How we celebrate Christmas has changed a lot due to the growth of other religions, the invention of technology, and the growth of conflicts in certain areas. First, as more and more religions have started and increased in popularity, Christmas has adjusted. However, none of the new religions have ever wanted to stop Christmas. In Christmas Is Not Just For Christians by Siddique, A Hindu, named Ramalingam stated, I don t know anyone who actually wants to ban Christmas and most Hindus and Muslims that I know actually celebrate Christmas (Siddique 1). However, he also tells us lies, and he is obviously not thinking entirely clearly at many points. But I do believe that Holden is right about children are innocent and pure in three ways; Holden s ideas, my own experience, and the information I gathered. In the novel The Catcher in the Rye , the main character Holden had a brother called Allie. He was really nice and intelligent. Everybody liked Allie, but he died at the age of ten. But kids are not phonies, they are pure and cute. When Holden sneaks into his home and sees Phoebe sleeping, she had her mouth wide open. It s funny. You take adults, they look lousy when they are asleep and they have their mouth way open, but kids don t. Kids look all right. • 12. Taking a Look at Surrogate Mothers Surrogacy is a controversial issue nowadays. Surrogacy allows a woman to give the gift of parenthood to a couple who would otherwise not have been able to experience it, either due to infertility or inability to adopt a child. In some cases, the surrogate can obtain monetary compensation for her services. According to Anderson (1990), A commercial surrogate mother is someone who is paid money to bear a child for other people and to terminate her parental rights, to lead to a situation that the others may raise the child as exclusively their own. In the aspect of the intended parents, there are reasons for people who need the surrogacy service. Firstly, Intended mothers can have a huge variety of health issues that make pregnancy impossible or undesirable. For instance, some women s womb cannot support a fetus that they may miscarry for many times that cannot get pregnant successfully. Secondly, there are also women that have biological problems which affect their ability to reproduce. The reproductive system is complex and can cause various ailments which make pregnancy impossible. Thirdly, some women may turn to surrogate mothers because of severe health problems. While the woman may be healthy enough to be an effective mother, her body may be unable to survive pregnancy. For example, some women would choose to use a surrogate mother because they have heart problems which may cause the mother to be unable to survive in a traditional child birth. This type of drone surveillance would capture a drug dealer making a sale to some tailgaters, locate the parking stall where a man needs medical attention after indulging in too many jalapeno poppers or track a pickpocket through a crowd. As far as crowd surveillance goes, the use of drones appears to be a no brainer. But this type of surveillance can also be a gateway into privacy concerns. According to Black (2013), today s rapidly changing drone technology carries the potential to violate the privacy rights of an individual. Numerous drones also carry the potential to threaten privacy in society as a whole. (Black 2013). Moving beyond crowd surveillance, drones are raising a lot of questions in reference to the Fourth Amendment that protects citizens and their houses, papers and effects from unreasonable searches and seizures (U.S. Const. amend IV). As drones have the potential to become important tools in police investigations, there are many situations presented that fall outside of the Fourth Amendment s regulation but fit in well enough to raise it as an issue (Koerner 2015). • 14. An Aesthetic Experience To have an aesthetic experience there are two criteria that need to be met. The first is paying close attention to intrinsic features. The second is that the object we focus on must be viewed as worthy of our attention. An example from the book of an object being viewed as valuable is on page 58. Young children will pick weeds and think they are just as beautiful as flowers because they do not see a difference. As they get older they begin to see what is held at a higher value in society (p.58). I see this at work when children bring me grass or rocks to hold onto because they see them as special. Most of the girls only pick things with color, so they can kind of tell the difference. During the spring one of our teachers was admiring a large bloom on the hydrangea bush. An older student then decided to pick it and bring it to the teacher. This upset the teacher because that flower was not meant for the kids to pick, but this shows how children understand and copy the ideas of adults. From the book I learned that the most common way of assessing a child s maturity level in the 1940 s was to look at how well they could draw a picture of a person (p.58). I can see this as a realistic way of assessing young students. However, as you get older I don t think this would work as well. I am very bad at imagining things so I would have a difficult time conjuring up a picture of a person in my mind to draw. I am also not very good at drawing and when I draw people they are mostly ... Tim Burton s films often show mysterious worlds filled with wonder and horror that bring us to see the world in new ways that we never knew. In this film just like many other of Burton s films the character is searching to find a new meaning to their life, or even going out of the way to make their life better by filling the empty void by finding a certain something or someone. What begins to puzzle the reader or viewer is when confusion comes up on who the bad guy or monster is in reality. Our main character Jack is faced with hardship of not being understood and not being able to find what is needed to fill the empty void within him which is said in that of Jack s Lament Performed by Danny Elfman Yet year after year, it s the same routine And I grow so weary of the sound of screams And I, Jack, the Pumpkin King Have grown so tired of the same old thing Oh, somewhere deep inside of these bones An emptiness began to grow There s something out there, far from my home A longing that I ve never known so he mentions an emptiness beginning to grow within his bones metaphorically speaking even though his character has a physical emptiness I excel without ever even trying With the slightest little effort of my ... • 17. Contagious Nature Of Kind Acts During the second week of the new year, Mrs. Thompson s language arts classes conducted an experiment in order to demonstrate the contagious nature of kind acts. To accomplish this, they received slips of paper from Mrs. Thompson that could be transferred to recipients of kind acts to be redistributed. This produced a continuous cycle of kind acts that is still in effect, which provides the world with an example of the contagious behavior of acts of kindness. Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible. These are the words of the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, a man who dedicated his life to obtaining equality for the people of Tibet. Although impossible to impact the world in a manner identical to that of the Dalai Lama, we possess the capability to alter it, nevertheless, by performing seemingly insignificant acts of kindness. Completing tasks that may comprise of merely retrieving a fellow student s fallen pencil can have profound effects on society, for these acts tend to spread in a similar vein to contagions. Therefore, a single act of kindness may develop into thousands of kind actions, which can form a superior town, city, country, and world. While not uncommon, random acts of kindness do not occur as frequently as devastating events, so they tend to appear rarely in the media. The Huffington Post, however, compiles ... • 18. Mr. Lasko s Loss Of Prosthetic Leg Summary: This article is a great read, and is about Mr. Lasko, a marine who unfortunately lost one of his legs in Afghanistan. Lasko participated in a project where he tested out a prosthetic leg specifically designed for swimming. He would swim laps around the pool and tell Todd Goldstein, the designer of the leg, how he was feeling. Prosthetic legs have been waterproof for some time but this leg is meant to swim and help propel you through the water. The leg was designed by Goldstein who used a process of trial and error with Lasko to come up with the final product. Lasko is a father of two boys who love to swim and since his accident he has wished for a better way to swim with his kids. It took some time for Lasko to get adjusted to the ... Swimming is just one more way we can work to bring them some joy again. I really enjoyed this article and thought it was a great choice, because I think it is wonderful that people are constantly working to make people with handicaps lives easier. I have not personally dealt with someone in my family with a disability, with some motor function like their legs, but I had to be on crutches for two weeks when I was in middle school, and it was hell. If I simply hated dealing with crutches for two weeks, I cannot imagine people who have had them for years and years to come. Making life easier and more accessible for these people is a great use of time and money. I love everything about this practice, except the fact the insurance will not cover prosthetics. I believe in a few years once it becomes less expensive and the business grows that insurance companies will finally jump on board. They may seem expensive now but it is almost a brand new technology. They will always have high startup costs. It is the next step in medical technology and many people suffer from these disabilities, so we must help them every way we can. When people suffer from a disability like this, they simply don t get enough exercise because it is much more difficult and dangerous. Without giving these people access to this leg is cruel because they will only get in worse shape. I hope that Lasko can swim comfortably with his kids from now on, and now we just need to keep on advancing with this technology. Maria has filed a complaint against her company because she believes she was unfairly eliminated as a candidate for a promotion because of her distinctive accent. She claims that she is highly qualified for the promotion because of the years she has worked for the company and her educational background. However, the promotion was given to Alex, an Angelo, who has had less time with the company but has better job evaluations. Maria also claims that the reason for her low job evaluation is because of a built in bias on part of her White male supervisors because she is the only woman and the only person of color in the department. Maria alleges that the company is engaging in discriminatory practices, however, the company states that Maria has had disciplinary action against her regarding attendance, she is loud and aggressive with co workers and that the ability to clear communication was an imperative element of the position. Land was and still is extremely important to the Māori people. From the time the Maori people set foot on Aotearoa, their way of life is highly revolved around the land. They have an immeasurable respect for the land and it holds the utmost significance. This essay will explore traditional beliefs of whenua such as the creation myth and the importance of Tāne. It will also discuss the importance to the Māori and how the loss of land (after the Treaty of Waitangi) played such a significant role. It will also explore the location of Māori and the rural urban drift, from the 1940s and still very much evident in today s society, as well as the influence of Pakeha and other cultures. My theory is that the significance of the land has changed overtime from traditional usage; to the way it is today. The traditional beliefs such as Māori myths play an important role to whenua. The creation myth involving the separation of Papatūānuku and Ranginui created light in a world, which was previously full of darkness. The gap created from Papa and Rangi created the land and the sky. In most creation traditions Tāne mahuta separated the earth and the sky. He is highly significant as he is the god of the forest. In forests trees are often seen as Tāne mahuta reaching up to split the earth and sky. All life is seen as being born from the womb of Papatūānuku, under the sea.
