Examples Of Existentialism In American Beauty

Existentialism in American Beauty The 1999 film, American Beauty starring Kevin Spacey and
Annette Bening, follows the existential crisis of a middle aged suburban father and husband as he
becomes attracted to one of his daughter s best friends. After developing said attraction, Spacey s
character, Lester Burnham, becomes conscientious of his life and begins making a series of decisions
and taking actions that ultimately result in his death. The angst ridden film explores not only the
alienation of its protagonist from his society, but also showcases each member of the Burnham family
as agents of materialism and loneliness in their quest to achieve real happiness. The Burnham family

The bleakness of Sisyphus punishment is due to its inherent meaninglessness, for despite his efforts,
the task has no purpose. This parallels to Lester s life prior to his acquisition of responsibility. Prior to
attempting to enact change in his life, the protagonist continues his monotonous daily routine at his
boring desk job, listening to the same soundtrack nightly at dinner, and overall subservience to those
around him: Both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser and they re right, I have lost
something. I m not exactly sure what it is but I know I didn t always feel this...sedated. His rebirth to
life only begins upon meeting Angela Hayes, his daughter s seductive best friend, to which he
develops a sexual attraction. After meeting Angela, he begins to alter his life dramatically through
quitting his job, buying a car he always dreamed of having and exercising in order to perpetuate a
level of success and masculinity to the teenager. In the final scenes of the film, when Angela finally
bares her innocence and insecurity to Lester, he finally sees true reality for the first time in the form of
real emotion. In the last seconds of his life he is able to appreciate life and feel more alive than he has
throughout the entirety of the film. He is no longer lonely and is cognizant of his purpose in life: being
a father, husband, and making the choices he deems fit for his existence in order to perpetuate his view
of happiness, and not that of

The Effect Of Organ Harvesting On The Black Market
Opening the door to people being able to buy organs for transplantation if they would not be able to
receive an organ by waiting their turn through the national database, only sets the tone for the
harvesting of organs.
Subsequently, that is why it s never good to leave your drink unattended. All too often people have
been illegally drugged, and kidneys have been stolen in their sleep to satisfy the need of the black
market of organs for transplant. Moreover, an unethical professional, be it a doctor or nurse could
decide not to revive someone based on them being a match for someone that may be waiting to
purchase the first organ that is needed; especially if that person is an organ donor. For years it was said
not to allow the state to put that you re an organ donor on your license for just this reason (Gregory,
2015).
There are websites and videos like the ones below that touch on organ harvesting and human
trafficking to harvest organs on the black market. The unfortunate thing is Amazon has books upon
books on the subject.

Essay On Stephanie
Topic: Discuss how Stephanie s character is revealed through her reactions to other characters.
One s character subconsciously influences her actions so her behaviours towards others reflects one s
character. In Valentine s Day by Stuart McLean, the protagonist Stephanie enjoys and suffers from
romances at her school, and her reactions to other characters reveal her self conscious, simple, and
easygoing character. Stephanie s experience in grade ten shows that she is self conscious about her
image at school. She secretly loves Doug and [writes] poems to Doug and [keeps] a list at the back of
[her Doug book] of all the things that [makes] Doug cool (1). This book is supposed to be confidential
until one day someone finds it and exposes her poems. After this event, she avoids any written
evidence of her love for Paul, implying that she cares about how other schoolmates see her. Another
clue is when Doug said the rock group Oasis was contemptible, Stephanie [prays] that no one would
tell him that she used to like Oasis (3), trying to create a fake identity to conceal her real self, which

When her love poems to Doug are taped ... to her locker ... for two periods (4), she recovers soon after
the event and falls in love with Paul. The exposure of her poems is a form of bullying and insult and
are supposed to induce serious social difficulties to the victim. Yet, Stephanie has no problem
overcoming it and falling in love in a short period of time indicates that she does not restrain her social
activities, probably because she forgets grudges easily. On Valentine s day, when her brother tries to
embarrass her in front of Paul by showing a picture of [her] in a bunny costume at her first ballet class
(36), she is angry for five minutes and then starts viewing the album with Paul. She is rarely upset and
offended, revealing her easygoing

Autocrats Suppression Or Censor Information
1. Why do autocrats suppress or censor information? Characterize the variation in censorship and
information management strategies that we observe, and then explain why this variation exists.
Autocrats suppress or censor information regarding the possibility of collective actions that

blocking banned words and phrases, hand censoring (King et al., 2013), having their own social media

Brushtail Possums Research Paper
If you were to take a midnight stroll through New Zealand wilderness, you would more than likely run
into a brushtail possum. This Australian marsupial has large pointed ears, grey fur, and a bushy tail,
hence its name. Though appearing cute and fluffy, be forewarned, for this little critter is one of the
most voracious predators in all of New Zealand. Today, many New Zealanders consider possums to be
public enemy #1. Now nearing a population of 30 million in a country similar in size of the state of
Colorado, possums munch on extensive regions of forest, massacre millions of birds and chicks a year,
and spread diseases such as the bovine tuberculosis to cows and other livestock (Groves, 2005).
Pestilence is in the eye of the beholder. If

College Benefits In College
When I was in school, my mother stressed education. I am so glad she did. I graduated from Yale
College and Yale University with my master s and I didn t do it by missing school (Angela Bassett).
Everyone has their own experience in college whether good or bad. School is home to me, ever since
Middle school after I finally grasped the art of studying. In high school I thought attending either a
two year or four year college consisted of me working hard to achieve a degree that would in turn help
me land a job. Not only would I walk away with a degree to help me out when it came down to
looking for a job, but the useful and successful skills would also come in handy. But, in my freshman
year really open my eyes to see that college is so much bigger than what I originally thought. Earning
an education enables us to succeed academically, make better career choices and build self confidence
In addition, not only does attending college get you one step closer to being qualified for a career of
your dreams, but college also allows you to have fun while you work hard. Now, going to college can
be exciting because you get to meet new people who have the same interests as you. Then, you can
also explore a whole new branch of math, science, and languages. We could even take some of classes
that captures our interest and work hard towards that degree in the end which will help secure a job
after graduation. College teaches us how to juggle between different classes. My academics

The Tlatelolco Massacre
On October 2, 1968, what started off as a peaceful student protest later turned into a bloody massacre.
On this day, students gathered together in Tlatelolco plaza to peacefully protest against the
government. The students were there for a rally but they were surrounded by armed military troops,
who opened fire and started the massacre. The Massacre of Tlatelolco will always remain as a part of
Mexico s bloody and dark history. Prior to the massacre, in July 1968, students began to start a
movement after a conflict had occurred between two schools and the government sent in the riot
police to stop the conflict. (Miller, 5) At the end of the month, students gathered together to protest
against police brutality, which ended by the students ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the accurate facts of the massacre will remain a mystery, it still made an impact on society.
One impact the massacre made was that it inspired writers to write about what happened. The
literature of Tlatelolco revealed that the ideals of the Revolution, so strongly defended by the party in
power, had become empty (Leal, 13), this statement claims that the students had the power prior to the
massacre. They felt strongly for what they were fighting for and they did not let the government stop
them. After many encounters with the military troops, the students continued to fight, which showed
that they were not afraid of the government. But after the massacre, the student movement ended
which caused them to lose their power against the government. After a few years, activists started to
create movements again but they remained traumatized from the massacre. Another impact is that the
government lost its legitimacy and was questioned as to whether or not they can properly govern.
(Gutmann, 61) The aftermath of the event taught citizens that the government cannot always be
trusted. This event may cause the citizens to wonder what else the government could be covering up.
It also shows to what extent the government will go just to remain powerful over the

Mistake s The Namesake
1) Ashima s actions while living in Cambridge are respectful of what a Bengali wife might do. She
cooks the food, cleans the house, and cares for the child. She also relays a few Bengali traditions like
avoiding public affection between her and Ashoke, deferring from saying Ashoke s first name, and
honoring her grandmother s choice for naming the new child. Since she wanted Gogol to be born
surrounded by family members, Ashima settles by inviting her Bengali friends to special events as
they are described as the closest thing to family. The foods within The Namesake are greatly
representative of what one might expect from both cultures. In America, there is the Chinese food, the

After his parents unwillingly gave Gogol a legal yet pet name, schools, doctors, and facilities in
America would all refer to him as such. In America, his pet name was not his pet name; rather, it was
his actual name, and this began with his first school principal. After changing his name at an older age,
Nikhil tried to remove all connections with his original name. He never mentioned it to those he met
after changing his name. He disliked when his mother called him Gogol during social events and when
Moushimi blurted his name changing story. Names are something special to society. Like colors on a
painter s palette, classes in a computer program, and definitions in a dictionary, our names are used so
we as people can easily be referenced, conversed with, and legally maneuver. I don t believe names

First-Wave Communism Vs. Second-Wave Feminism
Although the first two waves of feminism in the United States, the first from 1848 to the 1920s and
the second from the 1960s to the 1980s, had similar causes, the other influences in society and politics
at the time gave the two women s movements different motives, leading to different effects and
accomplishments from each wave. Simply put, first wave feminism and second wave feminism have
similar causes but differ based on their motives and effects. According to several sources, including
Robinson1, Stanton2, Zinn6, and a mathematical analysis of the causes of social movements by
several professors9, first wave feminism was caused by women being introduced to the workforce
with the Industrial Revolution, and the effects of World War I. Similarly,

What Do You Learn About Steinbeck’s View of Human Nature...
This essay is about how John Steinbeck represents human nature and the nice and unfavourable
qualities people had during the American depression in the 1930s where the story Of Mice and Men
took place. The story shows the way different people will react diversely to various situations. In this
case, living with the trouble of having to travel to faraway places to search for jobs. It shows how
some people can behave overly difficult while others can be calm, friendly and easy to live with. The
many characters in the story represent the many different combinations of worthy and unworthy
qualities but this essay shall concentrate on three characters Slim, Curley and Crooks.

Crooks is a very good representation of a victim of one of the worst qualities in humans racism. He
also represents how some people may react to such mistreatment. He shows how the cruelty to victims
can change them and cause them to feel lonely and sometimes angry in Crooks case. I can t play
because I m black. This shows how racist people exclude him from activities and such like just
because he is black in colour showing racial prejudice. Crooks also expresses the intolerance shown
towards him by other people when he says If I say something, why it s just a nigger sayin it. Another
example of the discrimination is when Candy compliments his room and crooks replies in the tone of
sarcasm, Sure, and a manure pile under the window. His living conditions also show the lack of
respect towards Crooks his bunk was a long box filled with hay. Although Crooks has to live in this
way, John Steinbeck writes how he takes it and gets on with it. He kept his distance and demanded
that other people kept theirs. Crooks also shows his loneliness Sometimes he gets thinkin , an he got
nothing to tell him what s so an what ain t so. This shows how he, unlike Lennie, has no one to talk to
or share thoughts with, no one to express his feelings to or ask a question.

Code Meshing Analysis
Intro I had said that the endorsement would be positively enforced through the education system
therefore making it mandatory and continuously cycling through our future generations. Ureeba had
said that our endorsement is going to deal with negative opinions by showing the proof that code
meshing is already present in our daily lives and by having code meshing within our education system
it will broaden peoples fields of experience. Vanessa then added onto that and said that by broadening
everyone s field of experience this will strengthen our society and make us stronger as a nation thus

This proposal abides by, Rusty Barrett s notion be yourself somewhere else , whereby linguistic
prejudices and various contexts do not deprive people of their words and languages. Code meshing is
an inclusive means of communication as it does not force minorities to conform to the understood

communicate, whether it be alternation or combination of other languages. We believe that depriving
people of their dialects is an intellectual feat, a tragedy proposed by Toni Morrison. There was a time

I Hear America Singing By Langston Hughes
Langston Hughes spoke and captivated the general struggles of an African American s life during the
1900s through his poem, I, Too. Hughes points out the injustice of bigotry or one s beliefs in America,
and his overall message is saying that an African American s hard work is just as noteworthy as any
other American. In contrast, Walt Whitman, author of I Hear America Singing, speaks about the
employed citizens of America. He gives honor to those who are living their lives and working to make
America a better place. Despite the fact that both poems are similar, they also have a vast amount of
differences. Whitman s poem is perplexed, while Hughes is straightforward. These authors poems
focus on different themes and give the readers different perspectives. These poems are inspiring and
demonstrate a new vision for society, however, the themes vary as Whitman focuses on a unified
nation, and Hughes demonstrates his writing through an individual.
To start off, the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, has a lot to do with patriotism. I
Hear America Singing focuses mainly on Americans employed citizens during the late 1800s. In lines
2 13, Whitman gives examples of all the various jobs that Americans have. He does not mention of
any races or skin color throughout his poem, and while the citizens are described, they are singing.
Whitman adds the singing aspect to serve as concrete and abstract language. In this poem, he uses the
singing to represent a deeper

Jim Cullen And The American Dream
The American Dream, as defined by Cullen, is starting your goal off with a little and ending with
more; it s like a business, you invest in it in order to gain more money. Usually, people will define the
American Dream as being able to achieve your goal because everyone is offered opportunities. Cullen
does acknowledge that people are born with different opportunities, so he talks about the good life.
The good life describes different factors that determine your opportunities. Throughout the other
readings, I ve come to find that most authors portray the American Dream as an idea that has died or
caused sadness, but could be revived.

Power of Power Essay
Among the most complex systems is a simple yet overwhelming desire for an establishment of power,
if one(it?) does not already exist. Power can be greedy, selfish, aggressive, but also a necessity for
order and peace. It is always controlling. It has existed since the beginning of time and will continue
to play a vital role in the lives of all, forever. In literature, power can be depicted in a variety of ways,
affecting different numbers of people and things. Margaret Atwood s Helen of Troy Does Countertop

Describe own special educational philosophy in terms of its metaphysics, epistemology, axiology, and
logic. My Philosophy of Special Education is that special education is teaching children who have
special needs, which can interfere with their learning abilities. I believe special education compared to
general education is merely an extension of services in helping all children learn. Learning is a process
through which we increase our knowledge as a result of the experiences in our lives. We learn through
what we are exposed to and what we try to imitate. It is a process of discovery. The environment in

141). An ice skater who has a positive experience when beginning to skate will build structures as a
skater. But, someone who has negative experience while trying to skate for the first time will not
develop any structures related to skating. Essentially, if a teacher is going to be successful and
learning is going to take place, positive structures should be developed. A good way to develop these
structures would be to follow Mamary s four principles for a quality classroom: 1. Classrooms in
which fear of failure does not exist. 2. Classrooms in which fear of rejection does not exist. 3.
Classrooms in which all uncaring practices are removed. 4. Classrooms in which mindless activities
do not exist. If fear of failure does not exist, students will be more persistent and willing to discover
things for themselves. And, as I said earlier, a very important part of learning is discovering. Students
who don t feel rejected will be more outgoing and not afraid to ask questions. When students don t
feel comfortable in their environment, they withdraw from the situation and shut down. On the other
hand, if they feel comfortable in their environment, they participate in class discussions and associate
learning with a positive structure. If the students know the teacher cares about them, they will be more
apt to do their best, if not for themselves, to impress the teacher. And the end result is likely that they
will decide that they love

his latest work, What it Look Like, Terrance Hayes use of style, cultural context, symbolism and his
use of stereotypes makes this poem one of his most elegant pieces, that can reach communities with
the amount meaning that it includes. Terrance Hayes has an articulate style to his poem, What it Look

amounts of poems that do not have a rhyme, but for the most part they have some other type of
structure to them. This type of structure could include a certain number of syllables per line or they
could display a certain number of words per line. Other structures could include blank verse, epic,

Biblical Viewpoint Research Paper
Biblical Viewpoint Genesis 2:24 (NIV) says, That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is
united to his wife, and they become one flesh. Males and females are different but God made them
different for the purpose of completion and unity rather than any sort of domination over one another.
God created men and women to be partners and to reflect his love. Genesis 1:27 (NIV) says, So God
created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created
them. God did not discriminate when he created men and women; not the were made in His image.
That should be enough proof alone to argue gender inequality is unfair. All Christians should be
feminists. As Galatians 3:28 (NIV) says, There is neither ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are not statistically a minority, but due to the nature of society they are considered a political
demographic. Slowly but surely, women are making their way into the American political system. In
1981 Sandra Day O Connor was named the first female Supreme Court Justice. Today, Hillary Clinton
is leading the Democratic polls for the 2016 Presidential race. This goes to show the headway women
are making in politics, but there is still more to be done. According to the Parliamentary Union,
America ranks 58th in women s political leadership worldwide (Shapiro, 2006). The United States

leadership. It is time for voters and politicians to step up their game and create gender diversity in the

Intropersonal Communication

Research Paper
As technology continues to advance everyday, verbal conversation is becoming less common. Even
though texting is becoming more common, it is making understanding ones tone and view on a
conversation difficult to understand. People aren t necessarily able to express emotion over text,
regardless of punctuation. One still isn t able to determine if a person could be joking, serious,
sarcastic, or lying because sending a text isn t the same as speaking to a person face to face. Me
personally, I have reaped the repercussions of jumping to conclusions with my conversations through
text. With personal experiences, research, and findings I will elaborate more on the topic of how

I personally can see myself not being able to concentrate in class as much because I have a significant
other that texts me as well as all my other friends who I don t see all the time. Not only that but social
media as well which makes being able to concentrate in class difficult and being able to focus during
work is just as difficult. Texting has made a big impact on conversational aspects in multiple different
ways most outweighing the positives.
The effects of texting on intrapersonal relationships I found were majority negative. Basically today
texting has become the main form for contacting people that aren t close to you. Many individuals use
texting to express their feelings, keep in touch with friends, and avoid communication orally. Even
though texting is convenient, simple, and simple it is causing a severe negative effect on face to face
conversations. It has come to the point where texting is actually replacing face to face communication
where people are even too scared to meet a person physically to speak face to face. Nonverbal
Competency is the ability to process and use non verbal codes to convey content in effective ways.
The nonverbal codes don t exist because there isn t a receiving party. No vocal characteristics, body

Underage Drinking Essays
Automobiles are not ferocious.... it is man who is to be feared, as Robbins B. Stoeckel remarked,
enumerates a simple, yet fundamental concept a vehicle in itself is a relatively safe, that is, until you
put a person behind the controls. Further adding to the danger is the ever prevalent risk of a fellow
driver being impaired by the usage of alcohol; perhaps the only thing that may make such a situation
even more difficult and dangerous is one who is under the legal alcohol drinking age. Fewer situations
are more life threatening than when an underage driver has been illegally consuming alcohol, yet
persists in the belief that he or she retains the ability to drive safely. Thoughts along this line are

Simply remarking that such a decision is dangerous fails to suffice as concrete evidence of the
negative effects of underage alcohol consumption, and so statistical evidence must be given.
Approximately five thousand underage drinkers die each year; the most prevalent cause is, not
surprisingly, motor vehicle accidents. What many do not understand is what other factors constitute
the other approximately three thousand; sixteen hundred to homicides, that is, murders and other
deliberate killings, as well as 300 to suicide, usually caused by an exacerbation of underlying
depression or other psychological difficulties. The remaining thousand are usually caused by such
grisly circumstances as falling, burning, and drowning. While this may seem a relatively small number
in the vast amounts of the twelve to twenty year old age group, estimates are that within the past
month one quarter of underage persons used alcohol, while two thirds of those were binge drinkers.
Not only does underage drinking increase the chance of dying in related incidents it encourages other
destructive behaviors: engage in sexual activities, carry a plethora of illegal substances, and
correlations have even been found that links underage drinking to poor performance in school. Other
observations have been made that negatively link underage drinking with mental

Hplc Determination Of Caffeine On Analgesic Powders
CHE 333 03 11/21/16 Formal Report HPLC Determination of Caffeine in Analgesic Powders
ABSTRACT: Components containing caffeine were composed into stock solutions. These solutions
were diluted to 1: 10 substance: mobile phase. A stock solution of caffeine was diluted 1:50. A
sequence of diluted caffeine solutions were prepared for use as a standard (ppm): 1, 2, 4, and 10.
Solutions of acetaminophen, acetylsalicylic acid, and Goody s Powder were developed to differentiate
chromatographic peaks observed. These solutions were subjected to HPLC for examination of the
observed peak area and retention time for the set of compounds. Comparison of retention time allowed
for the differentiation of peaks observed. The peak area obtained was utilized to determine the relative
concentration of caffeine present in Goody s Powder based on the relationship obtained in the
standard. The content of caffeine present in Goody s Powder by percent weight was identified.

Ethnocentrism vs. Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism and Cultural Relativism
Ethnocentrism and cultural relativism are two contrasting terms that are displayed by different people
all over the world. Simply put, ethnocentrism is defined as judging other groups from the perspective
of one s own cultural point of view. Cultural relativism, on the other hand, is defined as the view that
all beliefs are equally valid and that truth itself is relative, depending on the situation, environment,
and individual. Each of these ideas has found its way into the minds of people worldwide. The
difficult part is attempting to understand why an individual portrays one or the other. It is a question
that anthropologists have been asking themselves for years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

From then on, however, anything involving Arabic culture was deemed that of terrorists.
This process does work both ways, however. Citizens of other nations have long made it clear that
they believe Americans are nothing but greedy, power hungry people. I have known several people
that visited France, for example, and were treated as though they did not belong because they were
Americans.
Cultural relativism means the exact opposite of ethnocentrism. It can be summed up as believing that
all religious, ethical, aesthetic, and political beliefs are completely relative to the individual within a
cultural identity (www.cultural relativism.com). This means that there is no definite right or wrong ,
but rather an ever changing set of values for each separate culture.
I have not personally witnessed cultural relativism, however I do know that it very well exists. An
example of this idea is in something such as equality in the workplace for both men and women. A
person following the cultural relativist perspective would say that it is wrong to deny women that
equality in the workplace in America today. The cultural relativist would also say, however, that there
is a culture where it is acceptable to limit certain areas of freedom from women.
These two intricate issues will continue to be a part of every society until the end of time. One can

accounting period that ends on 12/31/X2. Let s use a three step process. Step 1 Analyze the
transaction. Step 2 Record in the journal. Step 3 Post to the ledger. Example 1: On 12/31/X2 (before
the adjusting process), Supplies, an asset, has a balance of $2,500. Employees take a physical account
of the supplies on hand. That physical count reveals that $1,200 of supplies remains. Step 1 ‐‐ The
balance of Supplies before the adjusting entry is $2,500. Subtract the amount determined during the

Example 4: On 7/25/X2, a law firm and its client sign a contract and the client pays $8,400 cash. The
contract states the law firm will provide monthly legal services for 12 months, beginning on 8/1/X2. A
regular journal entry is needed on 7/25/X2 debit Cash and credit Unearned Revenue for $8,400. On
12/31/X2, an adjusting journal entry is needed to record the amount of revenue that has been earned.
The entry also results in the correct balance of the liability account as of 12/31/X2. Computation:
$8,400 divided by 12 months equals $700 per month. $700 times 5 months (Aug Dec) equals $3,500.
$3,500 has now been earned. This complies with the revenue recognition principle record revenue
when it is earned. The liability is reduced because the services have been provided for 5 months.
Liabilities Unearned Revenue is decreased. Stockholders Equity Legal Fees Earned is increased. The
journal entry includes a debit to Unearned Revenue and a credit to Legal Fees Earned for $3,500
When the debit of $3,500 is posted to Unearned Revenue, the ending balance will be correct ($8,400
less $3,500). Legal Fees Earned goes to the Income Statement. Example 5: On 12/31/X2, the
accountant questions the managers and discovers that revenue of $12,500 has been earned (the
services have been provided) but the clients have not yet been billed. This is an accrual of revenue.
Revenue has been earned and must be recorded

Examples Of Being Weak In Othello
Being weak comes in a mental and physical form. Being mentally weak is to have no sign of resolve
to make something wrong, right, or to be afraid of someone. Being physically weak is to have no
power against someone more superior. And no one wants to match these descriptions. Which is why in
society, some people tend to act tough and strong on the outside, to hide their true powerless, weak
self. These two signs of weakness and action fits Desdemona, the wife of a Venetian general, in
Shakespeare s play, Othello. Desdemona s husband is the main character, Othello. Due to Othello s
high position in Venice, Desdemona tends to get overconfident with her own power, and at times even
think she is more superior than Othello. This leads to a scene where she promises Cassio, an ex
lieutenant, that she would have Othello return his lieutenancy. Despite the fact that Desdemona seems
to be a strong, confident woman at the beginning, towards the end of the play her fear of Othello, low
self esteem, and her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

leads to this scene where Desdemona says to Emilia, Something sure of state, either from Venice, or

What Does Nigger Mean
Use of the N word
In America, racial slurs are used, frequently at that. The word nigger is a common derogatory word,
and that s when the discussion on whether or not the word should be freed come in. To put it another
way, some people see it as they mean no harm in saying it, and if it s in a popular rap song why not
sing along; while others see it as, the word was used by past opressores, and the word was used to talk
down upon African Americans, so there s no good intention in the use of the word. Ultimately, the

and it s confusing why only some see this as a problem. (Thompson) The word isn t in the dictionary
for it s good name, it s in there to show the negative image it once held strongly against black people.
The shackles had been taken off the ankles and wrapped around the mind. And she would say that we
were continuing the oppressors work, to put it another way, black people fought for equality for the
longest, and now in the 21st century, the use of the word nigger is repeating the words and
discrimination black people worked so hard to overcome. (Thompson) All in all, nigger is throwing
salt to the wounds to black people who faced oppression, not only do white people say it minorities do
also, and that s not right there s no redefying this word and there should be no hope of doing so, the
word needs to vanish and be forgotten, just like how people want slavery to be

How Do Honey Bees Communicate
How the honey bees communicate? They are not using the hum vibrations emitted by the wings to
pass the information. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any
sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with
one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its
location through the honey bee dance.
There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance
and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to
indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. The honey bees may repeat the
dance several times at the same location or move to the other location on the honeycomb to repeat it.

Classical And Operant Conditioning
The behavioral model is the study of measurable, observable behavior and the way in which the
environment determines behavior. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view that
it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable behavior as a
psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach was a radical
departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of nurture and giving
most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate the behavioral problems
or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over themselves or their
environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other therapeutic approaches in
its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning (p. 233).
The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through
pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the
famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus that
produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is paired
frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained behavior. Later,
both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously.
From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning

Statement of Purpose
The first decade of 21st century will be remembered for the incredible advancement in the electronics.
A decade ago there were televisions which occupied a large table whereas the present day flat screen
LCD or LED televisions can be hung to a wall. The desktops are replaced by laptops and which in
turn are replaced most recently by the tablets. This reduction in the size of electronic gadgets with
increase in working efficiency over the years amazed me. Hence naturally, I grew up with a passion
towards this field and this passion led me to choose Electronics and Communication Engineering as
my undergrad course. The field of electrical electronics engineering has always fascinated me. I
picked up the rudiments of electronics field and electrical engineering. My interest started developing
in the early stage of my life, when I studied about the invention of computers, moreover about its large
size. The transformation from the large size to small palmtops enticed me to know about the factors
that are responsible for making computers, also the electronic gadgets so small. I was taken aback
after seeing a small chip for the first time in my school days, furthermore when it came to my
knowledge that this single chip contains more than 1000 transistors, it really became impossible for
me to believe, integrated circuits was the answer I received, but wasn t able to penetrate the
fundamentals of it. From then, everyday I come across with small circuits

The Handmaid s Tale
Nolite de Bastardes Carborundorum: Feminism in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, Edwidge
Danticat s Breath, Eyes, Memory, and Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Feminist literature encompasses a
wide range of issues concerning gender equality and the many waves and movements of feminism that
have arisen throughout history and across generations. Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale,
Edwidge Danticat s Breath, Eyes, Memory, and Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar are three works which deal
with a broad range of feminist issues, each involving a different form of feminism. In The Handmaid s
Tale, Atwood uses an overbearingly patriarchal society as a means of critiquing Radical Feminism,
illustrating the various ways in which woman can actually contribute to and facilitate their own
oppression. In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Danticat explores Postcolonial Feminism by analyzing feminist
issues that arise outside of Western culture, which are often overlooked in Western society. Sylvia
Plath s The Bell Jar includes aspects of Liberal Feminism, which focuses on women s political,
professional, and intellectual equality to men. Each of these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Women no longer have the ability to hold public office, own property, have their own bank accounts,

Gdp and the Standards of Living
Standards of living can be evaluated by the measure of GDP, level of inflation, net exports and fiscal
balance. Evaluation by using the GDP as an indicator would be relevant as it reflects the total national
economic activity and the level of wealth of the society. GDP per capita is adjusted for the size of the
economy in terms differences in price levels and also population of the country. There are many
factors that would affect the standard of living in a country. Some that cannot be measured by the GDP
and some that can be directly reflected by the GDP. GDP will be able to give us a rough idea on how
the standard of living is in a certain country. Living standards tend to move with GDP per capita, so
we can assume that the changes of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the end, economic statistics only measure what they measure, which may not bear much relation to
how well off we are. Conclusively, standards of living are to be improved by providing poor families
access to what they can get or what they can use at that time to make life comfortable, healthy and
fruitful. At the end of the day, economic statistics can only show the significant figures of a country
and only what they measure, but it may not be of that much relation to how well off citizens are.

Physician Assisted Suicide And The Rights Of Patients
Physician assisted suicide needs to be recognized by the federal government to show terminally ill
patients that their right to autonomy is not being ignored. The Bill of Rights of Patients was
constructed to outline just this. According to the American Cancer Society, the American Hospital
Association drafted a Patients Bill of Rights to inform patients of what they could reasonably expect
while in the hospital. One of the notes stated in the Bill of Rights of Patients is the right to autonomy.
The right to autonomy specifically states that patients have the right and ability to make their own
choices and decisions about [the] medical care and treatment that they receive (US Legal). If this right
to autonomy is ignored what rights do terminally ill patients have? The answer is little to none.
Physician assisted suicide and the right to autonomy go hand in hand. The more knowledge that
people have, the greater their ability to make educated and insightful decisions about the medical
choices that are accessible to them and their families. Physician assisted suicide should be like any
other treatment someone can ask for, and the right to autonomy protects this doctor patient agreement.
Physician assisted suicide should be readily available to all terminally ill patients to illustrate to them
that their tremendous pain and suffering does not have to be prolonged.
Everyone should be able to choose when and how they want to die, and they should be able to do so

Social, Sociology, And Sociology
Social work is centred on people, of all ages, races and class backgrounds to try to make their lives
better. Social workers collaborate with individuals and families to improve outcomes and quality of
life. It is an intense and responsible job and an employee s actions will have consequences, whether
they are good or bad.
Social workers ensure the welfare of vulnerable groups or individuals who need that extra support.
Social work as a subject area includes elements of psychology, law and sociology.
Social policy is the study of various areas of policy, within political or governmental setting, and is
concerned with everything from the welfare state, to social services. Social policy is an academic
study of theory, rather than current policies and draws from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and
economics.
What A Levels do I need?
Each university will ask for varying grades and tariff points from their prospective candidates,
therefore students are advised to check with their chosen institutions and degree programmes to ensure
they understand what they need to obtain to gain admission.
What are my study options?
Social work degree programmes mix vocational training with academic learning, and the majority of
courses will be three years in length. Some universities ask students to complete placement days,
where they have to complete a certain number as part as their assessment. Most individuals will be
taught in a classroom environment, which can then be applied to

August Comte- Zeitgeist
Auguste Comte: Personalistic Naturalistic Positions Claudette Spear Dr. Joan Hageman Northcentral
University Abstract This paper will focus on Auguste Comte, the founder of Sociology and how he
uses both views of both Personalistic and Naturalistic positions in order to justify his findings. Also it
will explain how his personal feelings about numerous subjects greatly influenced his studies and
works in which things were manipulated to support his findings. Finally it gives an opinion as to the

Making sense of the sciences is important to being able to use their mind and convey their emotions.
Using one language to convey these feelings is important to not only a person s personal growth but
the emotional growth. Having emotional growth gives the person an opportunity to help others
achieve their own emotional maturity. Although some do not achieve this maturity, they will attempt
to achieve this maturity at some level in their lives. Comte s theories were seen as a type of new
religious experience. Comte also founded the social sciences, and it is important to remember in our
more cynical times the ideals to which they aspired. Comte and other early social scientists assumed
that human behavior must obey laws just as strict as Newton s laws of motion, and that if we could
discover them, we could eliminate moral evils in exactly the same way that medical scientists were
then discovering how diseases worked and were eliminating much of the physical suffering which had
always been an inevitable part of the human condition (victorianweb.org). Seeing suffering as routine,
Comte gives the sense that he has seen a lot of suffering in his life and does not internalize this
because it is an every day occurrence. Treating trauma as this makes Comte seem detached from the
reality of suffering. Positivism has had it share of stereo types. Positivists

Social Primes Affect Prosocial Behavior
Harriet Over and Malinda Carpenter set out to find answers as to when people will spontaneously help
out by conducting an experiment called, Eighteen Month Old Infants Show Increased Helping
Following Priming With affiliation. These researchers explored if infants spontaneously help a person
in need when shown pictures eliciting affiliation. By setting up an experiment, circumstances were
tested to see if social primes could influence eighteen month old infants. Even the smallest changes in
an infant s social environment has the potential of affecting prosocial behaviors. It is said that living in
groups promotes survival, and helping and sharing are just two examples of prosocial behaviors found
present in groups. In a way, prosocial behavior ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the infants were warmed up to the experimenter and an assistant by playing. Shortly after, the
experimenter went to a different section of the room. The assistant worked with the infant first by
saying the foreground item, its color, and the use for it by following a script. At the same time, the
assistant completely ignored the priming object(s) in the background. The experimenter was unaware
of what priming picture the infant was shown. Afterwards, the infant was asked to play with the
experimenter, and shortly after, the experimenter left the room and returned with six sticks. As the
experimenter approached the ground, they accidentally dropped six sticks on the ground. Within the
first 10 seconds of dropping the sticks, the experimenter said nothing which gave the infant an
opportunity to spontaneously help pick up the dropped sticks. If the infant made no attempt to help
clean up the sticks within the first 10 seconds, the experimenter would say their name and state how
the sticks had fallen. When another 10 seconds went by, the infants name was repeated and the
experimenter stated how they needed the sticks back all while making two attempts to reach for the
sticks. Finally, the experimenter asked for help after thirty seconds went by. A general measure of
helping was scored based on whether the infants helped pick up at least one stick and offered it to the
experimenter at any time during the experiment.

Happiness in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Essay
When we look to define happiness, many different ideas come to mind. Webster s New Collegiate
Dictionary uses three definitions for happiness: good fortune, a state of well being and contentment,
and a pleasurable satisfaction. In Brave New World, Aldus Huxley argues that a society can redefine
happiness through the government s manipulation of the environment and the human mind itself. The
government accomplishes this by mind conditioning throughout the process of maturing, keeping a
caste based society, and obliterating problems. The government thus defines happiness as the absence
of all conflict. This differs from happiness as the American society sees it: the ability to pursue and
enjoy individual desires.

For problems that nature creates, the society of Brave New World destroys them to keep pestering
insects and things of that sort from infringing on people s happiness.
It is evident that Bernard and Lenina shift their attitudes after they meet the savage, John. Bernard gets
a taste of power after bringing the savage home to London and becomes satisfied and happy as defined
by Brave New World, a complete turnaround from his previous, almost American ideals. Lenina finds
love and joy, as an American would define it after being content for so many years in the society of
Brave New World. Before he finds the savage, Bernard is unhappy with his surroundings,
With eyes for the most part downcast and, if ever they lighted on a fellow creature, at once and
furtively averted, Bernard hastened across the roof. He was like a man pursued, but pursued by
enemies he does not wish to see, lest they should seem more hostile even than he had supposed, and
he himself be made to feel guiltier and even more helplessly alone. (63)
However, after he discovers John, he becomes just as artificial as every other conditioned human: And
I had six girls last week, he confided to Helmholtz Watson. One on Monday, two on Tuesday, two
more on Friday, and one on Saturday. And if I d had the time or the inclination, there were at least a
dozen more who were only too anxious... (158 9). Lenina, nevertheless, has a personality change in

Sociological Theorists
The situation between the individual and society is not as simple as many people believe. There are
three sociological theorists: George Herbert Mead, Karl Marx, and Emile Durkheim; who analyze the
connections between the two. As a warning these theories can be quite confusing at times, but fear not
I will be translating them into Jersey terms for better understanding. That being said, first we will be
discussing Mead s theory on the development of our self . Mead heavily focused on social problems
and social reform in his research, his most notable work being Mind, Self, and Society that describes
that the self is a product of social interaction. He explains that the body can be there and can operate in
a very intelligent fashion without there being self involved in the experience. The self has the ... Show

In other words, the social conception of the self does not exist at birth or biologically, it arises through
the process of social experiences and activities. Humans are able to not only be an object but also be a
subject. Being able to see yourself as something, but at the same time you are something. Therefore,
you are subject and object at the same time. The self only comes about through social experience,
without experience in society around others in some ways we do not really have a sense of self. Thus,
Mead believes that awareness is the key element of the self. Part of how you know people see yourself
is based off the interactions. Other than that you kind of don t have that awareness, Mead states that
this self consciusness comes out of

With the help of UN troops, Lumumba was placed under house arrest. However, he escaped to
Stanleyville, with the aim of recovering control by setting up his own government and army.
Lumumba s efforts proved futile when he was captured on December 1, 1960, and taken to Kinshasa
to be tried for inciting the army to rebellion and other crimes, according to rival Joseph Mobutu.
Lumumba was transferred from the military barracks near Leopoldville to the independent province of
Katanga due to perceived threat to his security. Lumumba was brutally beaten and tortured by
Katangan and Belgian officers, while travelling, and was placed under arrest while Katangan leader
Moise Tshombe and his cabinet decided on a course of action. According to Belgian report, Patrice
Lumumba was executed by firing squad on January 17, 1961 at age 35. Lumumba s death was blamed
on enraged villagers , however street protests were organized in several European countries, and the
Belgian embassy in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was attacked. Crowds also marched in London, protesting
the Belgian government s supposed involvement in Lumumba s

Maxine Motif In Woman Warrior
Kingston contrasts Maxine s American education with stories told by her parents, for her edification,
to demonstrate the opposing cultures found in her life. The beginning of the book starts with Maxine s
mother telling her about her ostracized aunt who had a baby with a random man instead of her
husband. When the villagers raided out of discontent, her family stood together in the middle of [their]
house, in the family hall with the pictures and tables of the ancestors around [them], and looked
straight ahead (4). Maxine s mother is implicating to Maxine that her actions don t just affect her, but
her entire lineage; that the family name is more important to protect than cherishing an individual. A

Figurative Language In The Minister s Black Veil
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Minister s Black Veil illustrates the dangers of secret sin. Allowing guilt
from things done in the past, things that cannot be changed, can ruin lives. The life of the secret carrier
will be devastated, along with the lives of that person s most loved ones. Hawthorne uses various
types of figurative language in his works to portray his message. The Minister s Black Veil is no
exception; Hawthorne uses symbolism and suggestion to add depth and mystery. Hawthorne s parable,
The Minister s Black Veil, uses symbols to illustrate the effect of shame and guilt. In the story, Mr.
Hooper represents the average Christian with a deep longing to be holy, and have fellowship with
man. However he allows the cross ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Mr. Hooper cannot even reveal his face to her because he fears society s condemnation concerning
his mistakes more than his love for her. His unwillingness to share his secret wounds Elizabeth deeply,
and causes her to break off their engagement. Nevertheless, Elizabeth also represents faithfulness
because she returns to him on his deathbed. What Mr. Hooper perceives on the faces of the spectators
is a shadow of his own veil. The darkness which envelops his heart blinds him to the meaning of
Christian love, even though it now attends him in the person of Elizabeth, who [...] is a symbol of
consecration to God. With a distrust of power of redemptive love, human or divine, man virtually
commits himself to the devil. (Stein 392). When Hooper died, he was laid to rest in the veil. Since
then, ...grass of many years has sprung up and withered on that grave, the burial stone is moss grown...
(par 59). The newly grown grass represents people remembering his good qualities and mystery, but
eventually his memory and even his veil became yet another moss covered gravestone much like the
ones he visited during his exile. The element that adds the most mystery to this tale is suggestion.
Hawthorne never explicitly tells the reader what is happening; his skillful use of suggestion allows for
multiple interpretations of the story to exist, with no particular one being wrong. Foremost,

The Feasibility of Prolonged Space Travel
The Feasibility of Prolonged Space Travel My scientifically accurate sci fi paper will focus on long
term space travel on a future mission to a distant exoplanet, such as the recently discovered Kepler
186f, that is thought to be habitable for human life and later colonization. The astronauts travelling to
the exoplanet will have to deal with the effects of space travel such as radiation on their bodies, both
physically and psychologically. The goal of the mission will be to scope out the environment of the
exoplanet to either confirm or deny the existence of life on the exoplanet as well as to evaluate in
person whether or not it is habitable for human life. There will be obstacles such as asteroids in the
path to the exoplanet that the astronauts will have to overcome using their scientific knowledge of
space travel and propulsion. In addition to these obstacles will be issues related to fuel and food
supply, making the journey even more hazardous and causing the astronauts to think critically in order
for the mission to be a success, especially if they plan to attempt to make a return trip. World
renowned physicist Stephen Hawking believes that in order for the human race to survive, it must look
to space for a new place to live [1]. He believes that the earth is too fragile to rely on and that if
humans limit themselves solely to this one planet, the future existence of humanity may be in
jeopardy. Many scientists, such as NASAAdministrator Michael Griffin,

  • 2. Examples Of Existentialism In American Beauty Emily Minnotte Mr. Nath English Literature 16 March 2015 Existentialism in American Beauty The 1999 film, American Beauty starring Kevin Spacey and Annette Bening, follows the existential crisis of a middle aged suburban father and husband as he becomes attracted to one of his daughter s best friends. After developing said attraction, Spacey s character, Lester Burnham, becomes conscientious of his life and begins making a series of decisions and taking actions that ultimately result in his death. The angst ridden film explores not only the alienation of its protagonist from his society, but also showcases each member of the Burnham family as agents of materialism and loneliness in their quest to achieve real happiness. The Burnham family ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bleakness of Sisyphus punishment is due to its inherent meaninglessness, for despite his efforts, the task has no purpose. This parallels to Lester s life prior to his acquisition of responsibility. Prior to attempting to enact change in his life, the protagonist continues his monotonous daily routine at his boring desk job, listening to the same soundtrack nightly at dinner, and overall subservience to those around him: Both my wife and daughter think I m this gigantic loser and they re right, I have lost something. I m not exactly sure what it is but I know I didn t always feel this...sedated. His rebirth to life only begins upon meeting Angela Hayes, his daughter s seductive best friend, to which he develops a sexual attraction. After meeting Angela, he begins to alter his life dramatically through quitting his job, buying a car he always dreamed of having and exercising in order to perpetuate a level of success and masculinity to the teenager. In the final scenes of the film, when Angela finally bares her innocence and insecurity to Lester, he finally sees true reality for the first time in the form of real emotion. In the last seconds of his life he is able to appreciate life and feel more alive than he has throughout the entirety of the film. He is no longer lonely and is cognizant of his purpose in life: being a father, husband, and making the choices he deems fit for his existence in order to perpetuate his view of happiness, and not that of ... The Effect Of Organ Harvesting On The Black Market Opening the door to people being able to buy organs for transplantation if they would not be able to receive an organ by waiting their turn through the national database, only sets the tone for the harvesting of organs. Subsequently, that is why it s never good to leave your drink unattended. All too often people have been illegally drugged, and kidneys have been stolen in their sleep to satisfy the need of the black market of organs for transplant. Moreover, an unethical professional, be it a doctor or nurse could decide not to revive someone based on them being a match for someone that may be waiting to purchase the first organ that is needed; especially if that person is an organ donor. For years it was said not to allow the state to put that you re an organ donor on your license for just this reason (Gregory, 2015). One s character subconsciously influences her actions so her behaviours towards others reflects one s character. In Valentine s Day by Stuart McLean, the protagonist Stephanie enjoys and suffers from romances at her school, and her reactions to other characters reveal her self conscious, simple, and easygoing character. I graduated from Yale College and Yale University with my master s and I didn t do it by missing school (Angela Bassett). Everyone has their own experience in college whether good or bad. School is home to me, ever since Middle school after I finally grasped the art of studying. In high school I thought attending either a two year or four year college consisted of me working hard to achieve a degree that would in turn help me land a job. Not only would I walk away with a degree to help me out when it came down to looking for a job, but the useful and successful skills would also come in handy. But, in my freshman year really open my eyes to see that college is so much bigger than what I originally thought. Earning an education enables us to succeed academically, make better career choices and build self confidence In addition, not only does attending college get you one step closer to being qualified for a career of your dreams, but college also allows you to have fun while you work hard. Now, going to college can be exciting because you get to meet new people who have the same interests as you. Then, you can also explore a whole new branch of math, science, and languages. We could even take some of classes that captures our interest and work hard towards that degree in the end which will help secure a job after graduation. Although the accurate facts of the massacre will remain a mystery, it still made an impact on society. One impact the massacre made was that it inspired writers to write about what happened. The literature of Tlatelolco revealed that the ideals of the Revolution, so strongly defended by the party in power, had become empty (Leal, 13), this statement claims that the students had the power prior to the massacre. They felt strongly for what they were fighting for and they did not let the government stop them. After many encounters with the military troops, the students continued to fight, which showed that they were not afraid of the government. But after the massacre, the student movement ended which caused them to lose their power against the government. After a few years, activists started to create movements again but they remained traumatized from the massacre. Another impact is that the government lost its legitimacy and was questioned as to whether or not they can properly govern. (Gutmann, 61) The aftermath of the event taught citizens that the government cannot always be trusted. This event may cause the citizens to wonder what else the government could be covering up. Hughes points out the injustice of bigotry or one s beliefs in America, and his overall message is saying that an African American s hard work is just as noteworthy as any other American. In contrast, Walt Whitman, author of I Hear America Singing, speaks about the employed citizens of America. He gives honor to those who are living their lives and working to make America a better place. Despite the fact that both poems are similar, they also have a vast amount of differences. Whitman s poem is perplexed, while Hughes is straightforward. These authors poems focus on different themes and give the readers different perspectives. These poems are inspiring and demonstrate a new vision for society, however, the themes vary as Whitman focuses on a unified nation, and Hughes demonstrates his writing through an individual. To start off, the poem I Hear America Singing by Walt Whitman, has a lot to do with patriotism. I Hear America Singing focuses mainly on Americans employed citizens during the late 1800s. In lines 2 13, Whitman gives examples of all the various jobs that Americans have. He does not mention of any races or skin color throughout his poem, and while the citizens are described, they are singing. Whitman adds the singing aspect to serve as concrete and abstract language. Usually, people will define the American Dream as being able to achieve your goal because everyone is offered opportunities. Cullen does acknowledge that people are born with different opportunities, so he talks about the good life. The good life describes different factors that determine your opportunities. Throughout the other readings, I ve come to find that most authors portray the American Dream as an idea that has died or caused sadness, but could be revived. Everybody defines and accomplishes their American Dream differently; Jim Cullen, the author of The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All in all, Cullen describes these two dreams as obvious evidence that they are nowhere near alike, but it falls under the category of, The Dream of the Good Life. Jim Cullen, the author of the American Dream, describes the transition of Puritans wanting to go to heaven to people gambling as a possible necessity for achieving a Good Life. The transition described by Cullen went from people gambling during Sabbath, to taking risks and built up to where people were gambling on a daily basis. The Puritans objected the idea of gambling and thought it was not necessary for them to achieve their good life which was heaven. However, during Sabbath, a day where people did not work because they believed that it was a God of law of God, people had other intentions, Especially because gambling so often took on the Sabbath...people typically ... Power can be greedy, selfish, aggressive, but also a necessity for order and peace. It is always controlling. Krogstad, though, has the upper hand due to the financial loan and debt that Nora has withheld from her husband. Krogstad blackmails Nora with a letter that he threatens to give her husband if she does not fix his problems with Torvald. Nora feels obligated to both men, for the welfare of herself and her family to do as they say. Of course, with an excessive amount of power comes conflict. The extent to which power drives one to their breaking point can be directly connected to their attachment to the individual controlling them. For Nora, the guilt, fear and stress that grew within her push her to new extremes. As she put her full trust in Krogstad and her life in the hands of her family, she realizes she can no longer handle her dissatisfaction in the games they play with her heart. She contemplates suicide, to permanently terminate the power exerted over her, but is reminded by Krogstad that he would still have [Torvald] completely in power (Isben 588). My Philosophy of Special Education is that special education is teaching children who have special needs, which can interfere with their learning abilities. I believe special education compared to general education is merely an extension of services in helping all children learn. Learning is a process through which we increase our knowledge as a result of the experiences in our lives. We learn through what we are exposed to and what we try to imitate. But, someone who has negative experience while trying to skate for the first time will not develop any structures related to skating. Essentially, if a teacher is going to be successful and learning is going to take place, positive structures should be developed. A good way to develop these structures would be to follow Mamary s four principles for a quality classroom: 1. Classrooms in which fear of failure does not exist. 2. Classrooms in which fear of rejection does not exist. 3. Classrooms in which all uncaring practices are removed. 4. Classrooms in which mindless activities do not exist. If fear of failure does not exist, students will be more persistent and willing to discover things for themselves. And, as I said earlier, a very important part of learning is discovering. Students who don t feel rejected will be more outgoing and not afraid to ask questions. When students don t feel comfortable in their environment, they withdraw from the situation and shut down. On the other hand, if they feel comfortable in their environment, they participate in class discussions and associate learning with a positive structure. If the students know the teacher cares about them, they will be more apt to do their best, if not for themselves, to impress the teacher. Experiments show that honey bees are no auditory organs, they will not hear any sound. Honey bees use dance language and pheromones to communicate and share information with one another. When a honey bee discovers a new food source, it will tell the other honey bees about its location through the honey bee dance. There are three types of honey bee dances that are the round dance, the tail wagging or waggle dance and sickle dance. Round dance (figure 1) is a series of narrow circular movements. This is used to indicate that the presence of food is within 50 meters of the hive. The honey bees may repeat the dance several times at the same location or move to the other location on the honeycomb to repeat it. A round dance just indicates the distance but the direction from the hive is not indicated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. Classical And Operant Conditioning The behavioral model is the study of measurable, observable behavior and the way in which the environment determines behavior. Yet, initially, most behaviorists adopted a rather extreme view that it was impossible to scientifically measure mental process, thereby leaving observable behavior as a psychologists only unit of analysis (Lehmiler, 2014, p. 11). The behavioral approach was a radical departure from the dominant psychoanalytic approach leaning toward the side of nurture and giving most of the attention to experience. The behavioral model aims to ameliorate the behavioral problems or seek to alter behavior, this model increase control of the individual over themselves or their environment. Corey (2016), stated the behavioral theory differed for other therapeutic approaches in its application of principles of classical and operant conditioning (p. 233). The classical conditioning refers to to what happens prior to learning that creates a response through pairing (Corey, 2016, p. 235). A key figure in this learning theory is Pavlov, who conducted the famous dog s experiment. The classical conditioning involves a particular unconditioned stimulus that produces a specific unconditioned response, and then the original (unconditioned) stimulus is paired frequently enough with a new conditioned stimulus that does produce identical trained behavior. Later, both stimulus will provoke the same response autonomously. From a broader perspective, the classical conditioning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A decade ago there were televisions which occupied a large table whereas the present day flat screen LCD or LED televisions can be hung to a wall. The desktops are replaced by laptops and which in turn are replaced most recently by the tablets. This reduction in the size of electronic gadgets with increase in working efficiency over the years amazed me. Hence naturally, I grew up with a passion towards this field and this passion led me to choose Electronics and Communication Engineering as my undergrad course. The field of electrical electronics engineering has always fascinated me. I picked up the rudiments of electronics field and electrical engineering. My interest started developing in the early stage of my life, when I studied about the invention of computers, moreover about its large size. The transformation from the large size to small palmtops enticed me to know about the factors that are responsible for making computers, also the electronic gadgets so small. I was taken aback after seeing a small chip for the first time in my school days, furthermore when it came to my knowledge that this single chip contains more than 1000 transistors, it really became impossible for me to believe, integrated circuits was the answer I received, but wasn t able to penetrate the fundamentals of it. The Handmaid s Tale Nolite de Bastardes Carborundorum: Feminism in Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, Edwidge Danticat s Breath, Eyes, Memory, and Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Feminist literature encompasses a wide range of issues concerning gender equality and the many waves and movements of feminism that have arisen throughout history and across generations. Margaret Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, Edwidge Danticat s Breath, Eyes, Memory, and Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar are three works which deal with a broad range of feminist issues, each involving a different form of feminism. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood uses an overbearingly patriarchal society as a means of critiquing Radical Feminism, illustrating the various ways in which woman can actually contribute to and facilitate their own oppression. In Breath, Eyes, Memory, Danticat explores Postcolonial Feminism by analyzing feminist issues that arise outside of Western culture, which are often overlooked in Western society. • 43. Physician Assisted Suicide And The Rights Of Patients Physician assisted suicide needs to be recognized by the federal government to show terminally ill patients that their right to autonomy is not being ignored. The Bill of Rights of Patients was constructed to outline just this. According to the American Cancer Society, the American Hospital Association drafted a Patients Bill of Rights to inform patients of what they could reasonably expect while in the hospital. One of the notes stated in the Bill of Rights of Patients is the right to autonomy. The right to autonomy specifically states that patients have the right and ability to make their own choices and decisions about [the] medical care and treatment that they receive (US Legal). If this right to autonomy is ignored what rights do terminally ill patients have? The answer is little to none. Physician assisted suicide and the right to autonomy go hand in hand. The more knowledge that people have, the greater their ability to make educated and insightful decisions about the medical choices that are accessible to them and their families. Physician assisted suicide should be like any other treatment someone can ask for, and the right to autonomy protects this doctor patient agreement. Physician assisted suicide should be readily available to all terminally ill patients to illustrate to them that their tremendous pain and suffering does not have to be prolonged. Making sense of the sciences is important to being able to use their mind and convey their emotions. Using one language to convey these feelings is important to not only a person s personal growth but the emotional growth. Having emotional growth gives the person an opportunity to help others achieve their own emotional maturity. Although some do not achieve this maturity, they will attempt to achieve this maturity at some level in their lives. Comte s theories were seen as a type of new religious experience. Comte also founded the social sciences, and it is important to remember in our more cynical times the ideals to which they aspired. Comte and other early social scientists assumed that human behavior must obey laws just as strict as Newton s laws of motion, and that if we could discover them, we could eliminate moral evils in exactly the same way that medical scientists were then discovering how diseases worked and were eliminating much of the physical suffering which had always been an inevitable part of the human condition (victorianweb.org). Seeing suffering as routine, Comte gives the sense that he has seen a lot of suffering in his life and does not internalize this because it is an every day occurrence. Treating trauma as this makes Comte seem detached from the reality of suffering. Positivism has had it share of stereo types. Positivists ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the experimenter approached the ground, they accidentally dropped six sticks on the ground. Within the first 10 seconds of dropping the sticks, the experimenter said nothing which gave the infant an opportunity to spontaneously help pick up the dropped sticks. If the infant made no attempt to help clean up the sticks within the first 10 seconds, the experimenter would say their name and state how the sticks had fallen. When another 10 seconds went by, the infants name was repeated and the experimenter stated how they needed the sticks back all while making two attempts to reach for the sticks. • 47. Happiness in Aldous Huxley s Brave New World Essay When we look to define happiness, many different ideas come to mind. Webster s New Collegiate Dictionary uses three definitions for happiness: good fortune, a state of well being and contentment, and a pleasurable satisfaction. In Brave New World, Aldus Huxley argues that a society can redefine happiness through the government s manipulation of the environment and the human mind itself. The government accomplishes this by mind conditioning throughout the process of maturing, keeping a caste based society, and obliterating problems. The government thus defines happiness as the absence of all conflict. This differs from happiness as the American society sees it: the ability to pursue and enjoy individual desires. The ... That being said, first we will be discussing Mead s theory on the development of our self . Mead heavily focused on social problems and social reform in his research, his most notable work being Mind, Self, and Society that describes that the self is a product of social interaction. The darkness which envelops his heart blinds him to the meaning of Christian love, even though it now attends him in the person of Elizabeth, who [...] is a symbol of consecration to God. The Feasibility of Prolonged Space Travel The Feasibility of Prolonged Space Travel My scientifically accurate sci fi paper will focus on long term space travel on a future mission to a distant exoplanet, such as the recently discovered Kepler 186f, that is thought to be habitable for human life and later colonization. The astronauts travelling to the exoplanet will have to deal with the effects of space travel such as radiation on their bodies, both physically and psychologically. The goal of the mission will be to scope out the environment of the exoplanet to either confirm or deny the existence of life on the exoplanet as well as to evaluate in person whether or not it is habitable for human life. There will be obstacles such as asteroids in the path to the exoplanet that the astronauts will have to overcome using their scientific knowledge of space travel and propulsion. In addition to these obstacles will be issues related to fuel and food supply, making the journey even more hazardous and causing the astronauts to think critically in order for the mission to be a success, especially if they plan to attempt to make a return trip.
