Animators in Pixar Animation
Takahashi, Dean. Bringing characters to life with Pixar s animator magic http://venturebeat.com
/2013/04/24/how pixars animators bring characters to life with magic interview/ (2013)
Dean Takahashi s assert reveals the interview between himself (VentureBeat) and Pixars supervising
animator Scott Clark. During the interview, Scott Clark discusses about how complex animation
has become over time from how animation used to be completed fifteen or so years ago and how
this new technology takes animations to a whole new level, referring to their most recent film,
Monsters University. The tools of technology has become a big fancy pencil said Clark. Even
though there are dozens of new tools animators use in this time, there are still tools we use that
were created almost 20 years ago. As technology advances, work becomes a little faster but still
takes the patience trait needed. Takahashi asks Clark about having an army to create these films.
Clark responds that as films get richer and complex, such as with more characters, that it pretty
much takes an army to complete the film. Each person is hand animating something.

How Diversity Has Changed My Life
I always marveled at how Joshua s Yakama managed to stay on. Sweat dripping and curls
bouncing with each exercise, Joshua listened for my instruction. I had to be very articulate and an
extremely good demonstrator when correcting Joshua with his exercises. A practicing Hasidic Jew,
Joshua was not allowed to touch or be touched by a female. Touch for Gary, however, was crucial.
Legally blind from the age of 6, Gary relied on his sense of touch, as well as my physical contact
guiding him through the proper motions of his exercise program. Qing Yuan barely needed any
guidance through her exercise program. Despite the significant language barrier that existed
between her and everyone at the clinic, she had a doting son with her who would translate between
Chinese and English. However, we later found out that her son would intentionally misinterpret
certain medical information to his mother, that was thought in Chinese culture to bring shame to her.

Whether you are dealing with patients who are White, African American, Hispanic, Homosexual,
Transgender, Muslim, Deaf, Legally blind, or from a foreign country, it is crucial to take their
differences into account. You must recognize the disparity between them, do your best to
understand their distinction, and then approach them accordingly. This is where the idea of
tolerance comes in. Tolerance, as defined by Oxford Dictionary, is the ability or willingness to
tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not
necessarily agree with . Merriam Webster Dictionary defines tolerance as a willingness to accept
feelings, habits or beliefs that are different than your own . However, for me, the word takes on a

Arguments Against Therapeutic Cloning
For many years there has been a large controversy over the use of cloning for therapeutic and
reproductive purposes. The argument against therapeutic cloning is that creating an exact replica
of one s self all for the use of harvesting its parts is considered killing another human being.
However, some people are for this use so that they can survive as long as they can, and use the
clones materials as a way to cure disease or heal injuries. On the other hand, reductive cloningalso
has two sides, for and against. People who believe that reproductive cloning is okay, want to
create another version of themselves just to either have themselves as a baby or replace a loved
one. But, people who are against reproductive cloning believe that it is a selfish or unreasonable
act to have one birth a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people fawn over the idea of cloning themselves and to have a replica of themselves be
birthed by a surrogate mother. However, I believe that parents who are selfish would use the
advantages of having a baby clone of themselves will overuse the power, and distinguish the
rights of the baby. Since parents have legal right over medical decisions for the child, there is
nothing from preventing them from harvesting their own child for their own good. I may be
completely against reproductive cloning, however, some people and/or parents feel as if having a
clone of a lost one will make up for their absence. Recreating someone doesn t mean that it is the
same as the original because, with different external impacts, a clone can easily have different
personalities, feelings, and memories. Therefore technically trying to bring back someone back,
will be emotionally unsuccessful. With the technology that our world has today, reproductive
cloning is absolutely possible and has been done before, but I believe that it will damage the human

Similarities Between Arrow And The Flash
Has there ever been a point in your life that you wished you could be a superhero or
superhuman? Most, if not all, people s answer to that question would be a resounding yes,
including mine. Over the years, more TV shows and movies have begun to incorporate what we
would consider to be our heroes into them. These shows, or movies, consist of a hero, or heroes,
that are typically aided by friends and a team that help them fight evil; two examples of this are
Arrow and The Flash. Hero shows, or movies, can be a quite broad category, but it can be broken
into smaller categories like superhuman heroes, mortal heroes, dark heroes, or otherworldly heroes.
The Flash is a superhuman hero while Green Arrow is a mortal, but dark hero. The two... Show

Oliver vows that every person on his father s list will wish he too had died on that island. Similar
to the first episode of Arrow, The Flash has it s first episode named Pilot as well. It begins with a
flashback to when Barry Allen s, the main character, mom is killed in an unexplainable event
and his dad is convicted of her murder... which Barry believes to be untrue. Now, 14 years later,
Barry works for Central City C.S.I and is quite good at his job. On one particular night a particle
accelerator, created by Harrison Wells and was supposed to change the way everyone thought
about physics, exploded releasing an unimaginable amount of dark energy. Lightning then struck
Barry, which put him in a coma for nine months. After waking up, Barry began to notice certain
things were slowing down... or so he thought. In reality, he was just moving unexplainably fast.
When a man named Clyde Martin that can inexplicably control the weather starts terrorizing the
city, Barry takes it upon himself to take him down. He speaks with Oliver Queen for advice,
Barry knows Oliver is the Arrow, and Oliver tells him that he can inspire people the way he
himself never could. Barry then takes on Clyde Martin head on and defeats him. The storylines
between the two shows are similar because they both begin by showing what made the two heroes
and what made them who they are stemmed from former accidents.

Essay about Democratic Peace Theory
The idea that democracies do not fight each other can be traced back to the writings of
Immanuel Kant over two hundred years ago in essay On Perpetual Peace , however, only in the
early 1980s and with the writings of Michael Doyle was the idea consolidated. According to
Doyle and other advocates of the democratic peace theory, liberal democratic states have been able
to maintain peaceful relations amongst themselves, but are prone to wage war against non
democratic regimes. In order to prove this theory, vast databases have been constructed of
historical dyadic relationships between states as well as detailed breakdowns of incidents of inter
state war. The conclusions reached are best shown in the work of Bruce Russett who has argued that

So the theory suggests that because democracies externalise their interstate norms, they resolve
disputes with other states like them in a peaceful way. Hence domestic inner state policies
influence their foreign policies. However, this proclamation is disputed by C. Layne who argues
that the crux of this theory is that if the assumption that democracies promote their peaceful
inner state norms and beliefs, then they shouldn t ever threaten other democracies, especially
not in a crisis. I will use the case study of the Trent affair to provide evidence of how war was
avoided. I will argue that in this case, war was avoided not because of the domestic pacific
influence on foreign policy but because of other strategic reasons. In 1861 there was an incident
when the British mail ship Trent which was transporting J. M. Mason and J. Slidell on route from
America to England, was stopped by the USS San Jacinto and the two men were arrested. This
caused outrage amongst the British public, writes Layne, adding some of the reports from the time
such as the people are frantic with rage... I have never seen so intense a feeling of indignation in my
life. An ultimatum was immediately sent to Washington and military threats were given. This
indicates that the government, as much as the public, was very much bellicose. So even though
both countries were

Friendship And Self Discipline In Remember The Titans
The Civil Rights movement made a big change in American history. In the movie Remember the
Titans we see how de segregation effects high school football teams, coaches and society. The
movie takes place at a time in history when integration of black and white teenagers start in
schools. There is a cultural divide between the football players. The main characters are Herman
Boone, Bill Yoast, Sheryl Yoast, Gerry Bertier, and Julius Campbell. In this project I will explain
4 examples of friendship/self discipline by the main characters in the movie. Next I will explain
what friendship and self discipline mean to me. The definition of friendship is someone you can

Yoast begins to see that they must work as a team to get the players to get along and respect each
other s culture.
Moreover, Boone uses different things with the players to get the players to get along. He makes
the black players and whites players ride on the same bus, share rooms, and all the players run at
the battle of Gettysburg. These things make the team come together and look at each other like a
team and not color. This also make Boone and Yoast have respect for each other and become
friends in the end.
Second, Gerry Bertier is the white player that seems to be the leader of the white players. Julius
Campbell is a black player that seems to be the leader of the black players. At first the two
teenagers do not get along because of race, favoritism, and need to protect their culture. Coach
Boone having the team players get on same bus, share rooms, and help each other on the run at
the Gettysburg battle make the players become a better team a develop a friendship. Gerry and
Campbell develop a respect for one another and it rubs off on the other teammates. Towards the
end you can see that Gerry and Julius are now good friends. Gerry gets into a car accident and
asks Julius to come visit him in the hospital. This is a big difference from the beginning of the
movie when they hated each other just because their skin color is different.

How Did Helen Keller Contribute To Real Life
The real life heroic figure that was chosen for this reflection is Helen Keller. Helen Keller was a
well known author, educator and social activist in America in the early 20th century (Helen
Keller Biography, 2016, para. 1). Helen Keller was also the first deaf and blind person to graduate
from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree (Helen KellerTimeline, n.d.). She was born on the
27th of June in 1880 as a physically healthy child to Arthur H. Keller and Kate Adams. Helen
Keller was the first of the three children born to her parents and had two older step brothers from

Helen Keller was known to be a major fundraiser for the American Foundation for the Blind. As she
was extremely well known by the time she started the efforts for the foundation, many people the

greatly boosted the organisation s abilities to help many individuals who were blind in the areas of
their education, employment and independent living. (What were Helen Keller s contributions to
society?, n.d.). Another known significant positive achievement of Helen Keller s was her success
in establishing braille as the official reading and writing language for the blind (The History of
Helen Keller, 2015, para. 5). Before that, there were four other systems that were used which
confused the blind immensely and made communication difficult as not everybody studied with
the same system. Helen Keller s campaign to make braille the standard system for communication
for the blind was received well and from then on braille became the official language for the blind
in America. And in 1932, braille became the standard system that was used around the world (Ask

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Overdraft
1.Overdraft
Overdraft may occur when the amount of money which is withdrawn from a bank account exceeds
the amount available (Overdraft, 2015). Normally it happens when an individual writes the total on
the check more than the total balance in the account. The bank will cover the checks and allows the
customers to deposit or place more funds into the account in order to cover the negative balance. In
addition, the bank will charge an interest at the agreed rate (Overdraft, 2015) on this short term loan
instead of charging fees. Basically, the bank would not reject the customers check when there is no
enough funds which are available to cover up because the customes pay for the overdraft protection
on their account.

Black Health Network
Practice Project 2: Campaign Analysis
1.The California Black Health Network was established in 1978 by African American health
professionals in San Diego, California. Initially their vision and passion was advocating for access
to quality and affordable health care. In addition, their mission was to improve the health status of
people of African American descent in California and eliminate health disparities through
legislative, administrative and media advocacy (cbhn.com). This effort awarded the organization in
1980 to hold their first statewide conference. CBHN co founded other ethnic networks such as the
California Pan Ethnic Network (CPEHN) and they were also instrumental in creating the office of
multicultural health. Initially CBHN was made up of six chapters and two affiliate organizations.

The campaign defines the environment by the areas that they tend to. Some of their current focus
areas are health reform, mental wellness, boys and men of color, and black infant health. CBHN
was very integral in the implementation of the affordable care act. The organization worked
vigorously in informing the community about the act and what it meant to the lives of African
Americans. The infant mortality rate in the African American community is among the highest in
the nation and CBHN has brought forth communication strategies to bring critical awareness to this
fact and the data concerning the epidemic. In regards to mental wellness, there is a disproportionate
share of African Americans that are affected by mental health issues in California. Thus, the
California institute of mental health has asked the CBHN to host series of webinars regarding the
impact of mental health to the African American community. Within this effort, there has been an
emphasis on boys of men of color as nationally they have been unjustly targeted and also face an

Bill Morphology
Several examples of bill morphology describing foraging behavior and efficiency have been
discussed in class. The examples are Natural Selection in the wild with Medium ground Finches,
Sunbirds, and Crossbills extracting seeds. All of these examples show how bill morphology can
affect foraging. Foraging describes how birds look for food within their environment. Foraging
behavior was studied in Medium ground finches living on Daphne Major. In 1976 there were
1400 birds living on the island. The same year, the island received 122 mm of rain in the wet
season. The next year the island had a drought and only received 24 in of rain. The year after the
island received 128 mm of rain. This drought contributed to mortality of some of the birds. It
was found that out of a total of 388 juveniles only 1 survived. Most of the smaller birds died due to
lack of smaller seeds. In 1976, 17% of seeds eaten were large. The number jumped to 49% in 1977.
The smaller birds were mostly females. This lead to a depletion in the sex ratio. Before 1977,
there was one female to every male. However, in 1977 there was inly one female to every six
males. During this same time the amount of seed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

open cones were the easiest for the the birds to extract the seeds from. The mandible length of the

better job at opening the closed cones. However, towards the end of experiment the birds ran out of

Medici Family Research Paper
The Medici family started their rise to power in the 1200 s as a not very well known middle
class family. They were inferior to a multitude of families but eventually grew to be the most
important family in Florence and Italy at their peak. The Medici took advantage of the ciompi
Rebellion in 1378 when Salvador de Medici tried profiting from the rebellion by attempting to
become the layman s leader. In 1393, Giovanni de Medici took ownership of the Roman branch of
a bank owned by one of his Florentine cousins. He moved the headquarters of his bank to Florence

How many times have we seen this transpire in the past year? What can we do to change the
disparities that are taking place between police departments and African American boy/men?
According to Attorney Benjamin Crump (Truth and consequences, 2015), far too many officers
say that they felt threatened, but if not for viral video; the murder could have been swept under
the rug. He also says there is a blanket of distrust, disrespect, and indifference thrown across
Black men in America. He believes that this is the result of the many deaths at the hands of
armed police officers who claim to be afraid. According to former Police Chief Howard Safir,
(Truth and consequences, 2015), these incidents do not happen as often as the media would have us
believe. He believes that police brutality and misconduct are inexcusable. He depends that police
are to protect and serve but can only do this effectively if officers and civilians work together.
Filmmaker Errol Morris believes that every time an unarmed black man is killed by a police officer,
and the act goes unpunished, racism is rewarded. According to Morris (Truth and consequences,

Hiroshima Bombing
Mankind is one of the biggest races on the Earth and with that many people, there are bound to be
many mistakes. By far one of the biggest mistakes of humanity has been nuclear war and nuclear
weapons. Even after copious amounts of death and destruction, mankind continues to threaten each
other with these weapons of horrid violence. Some of the most notable bombings in history are the
bombs dropped on Hiroshimaand Nagasaki. Now things like this may happen in the future. On
August 6, 1945 the United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, resulting
in the end of World War II, as stated in Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, by history.com.
Though it did end Word War II, it still did a considerable amount of other damage in the world.
One of the biggest things that came out of this bomb was the destruction of the Earth. It destroyed
the 90 percent of the city and if a citizen could have survived that, they would have died due to the
radiation to come. Then on August 9, 1945 United States of America dropped an atomic bomb on
the city Nagasaki killing thousands and destroyed over 60 percent of the cities buildings, creating
more radiation to kill thousands more. Though these bombings did stop World War II, they

Destruction In Ray Bradbury s The Illustrated Man
In the book The Illustrated Man, Ray Bradbury uses the theme of world destruction in several of
his stories: The Highway , The Last Night of the World , and Zero Hour . He expresses his
opposition to war to us through these four stories by writing of atom wars, and extra terrestrial
conflicts and annihilation. Through his writings, we see his views and stances on how the world
has turned a blind eye from equality and worldly respect to a more demanding and selfish state of

with the entire population. In every yard on the street children brought out knives and forks and
pokers and old stovepipes and can openers, (Bradbury 233). Bradbury tries to express to us in this
how parents don t listen to their children because they thin Through his writings, we see his views

demanding and selfish state of mind.k that because they re just kids with big imaginations, they
could never be a threat to anything. But ultimately, the world is destroyed and Bradbury again
expresses his thought on war and how we have refused to recognize that there are things out there

Small Town Vs Big City Essay
Small town verses big city, the age old argument which is better to live in and why does the
grass always look greener on the other side, well for the small towners at least. Growing up in
Prince George a small town in B.C, I always dreamed of leaving, moving on to bigger and better
places, the big cities looked so wonderful. Well I have now lived in Edmonton, Alberta for eight
years and I will say that home is where the heart is.
Now not all small towns are the same, some are in the middle of nowhere, not a thing around.
Prince George was different, sure it was small and stinky I may add, however, the lakes surrounding
the town were beautiful. The water was clear and clean, the beach areas were sandy and weed free.
Unlike Alberta where you could drive for hours and still not find a clean lake, in Prince George
driving for 20 min will bring you to a beautiful lake for a day of fun. However, the closer the lake
understandably the busier the lake would be, it was still nice to go out on an evening for a few
hours after work or on a whim. Even though the closer lakes could be busier from time to time,
compared to the city lakes, well it doesn t even compare. Once a nice lake is found close to the city,
everyone and their dog is going to be heading to that lake on a beautiful day.
Less people! I love that about small towns, city people saying the Costco is busy compared to
small town people say the Costco is busy, is actually laughable. Costco in Prince George, you pull

Joseph
The story of a young brother that unleashed anger, envy, annoyance , and rivalry in his own
family. He was the eldest son of Jacob and Rachel, the product of true love. His life faced a
turning point, caused by his father s decisions which later became the reality of being abandoned
by his brothers, sold to the Ishmaelite and being raised in another culture. While It was his father s
and brother s decisions that made Joseph fulfill his destiny in Egypt , Jacobs behavior leads to
conflicts in his family. Joseph is given preference over the rest of his brothers, and he is awarded

It would have been better for the entire family if Jacob would have never given the garment,
because everyone knew already that Joseph had the undivided attention from his father, and the
tunic was not necessary to approve that. Jacob is the one to blame for unleashing the wrath of
his sons towards Joseph. The problem was big enough and there was no need to make it bigger,
which eventually later in the story results in Joseph s exile into Egypt. Most importantly this is a
passage that interestingly shows many family problems that we are currently witnesses of, such
as parents marking their children lives through their decisions which further more have an
outcome in their children future and that parents are not always the best at their job, but they
think they are. This story is important , it shows the traveling periods of human beings , how
obstacles in life can shape a person and be rewarding in the future. It is clear that God, had a plan
for Joseph, since the beginning of the story, we do not know why, but maybe it was Joseph s
attitude overall that honored God. And he is to be truly admired by his faithfulness in the entire
story, he never gave up. His dreams were a vision of the future, and visions that became true, in the

Wisdom In Plato s Dialogue Apology
Wisdom is cement. Wisdom is used to make new pathways but is often referred to as intelligence.
However they are not the same, some who are intelligent cannot receive wisdom because they are
arrogant, but there are few that break this barrier and realize that they actually know nothing
because they are forever learning. Such as Socratesin the dialogue Apology by Plato, Plato analyzes
Socrates journey to disprove his wisdom by questioning the most respected and talented people in
Athens. Through ethos and paradox Plato reveals a respectful tone for his mentor Socrates.
Socrates makes himself more credible when he exposes his ethos to the audience. He states that he
has the god of Delphi, Chaerephon an important figure in their society and

Social Movements And Collective Action Essay
INTRODUCTION: Theories regarding social movements and collective action are precisely
significant and valuable. They allow us to describe and explain such movements how they form and
organize, their agendas, the extent to which mobilization or counter mobilization process succeeds
or fails in different situations, and how they evaluate strategies and policies in the light of specific
outcomes. Self evidently, the terms and perceptions and the dialogue that we bring to bear must be
in coherence with the particular social movementthat we are studying. Theories neither ascend nor
activate in an empty space, they have an itemized background behind their emergence and they are
revolutionized in response to the realities of the subject matter. As a result of the writings and
research there has been a lot of debate regarding diverse perspectives of various researchers.
Advances and defense of the existing school of thoughts were also presented along with the
emergence of new school of thoughts altogether. Comprehensive research related to social
movements is being conducted not only in the field of social sciences, but also in politics,
communication and history. The purpose of this chapter is to review some of the theories of social
movements. The theories that we have discussed are Mass Society Theory, Marxist theory, Relative
Deprivation Theory, Resource Mobilization Theory and Framing theory. An analysis on the
application of these approaches in certain situations, the

Trojan War Essay
In the book The Trojan War, by Bernard Evslin, Ulysses and Agamemnon both contribute to the
Greek s victory. Many considered Ulysses to be the real brains behind the Greek forces. Although
Agamemnon was the leader of the Greeks, many would say he was not a good one. Even though
Agamemnon did some good deeds during the war, many of his actions caused problems, and
Ulysses often had to come to his rescue.
With Ulysses on the Greeks side they had amazing intelligence and bravery. Many great things
happened because of Ulysses leadership. One example is when Ulysses dressed as a peddler, found
where Achilles was hiding, and brought him back to fight in the war. Ulysses knew he had to ...

His stupidity and arrogance made him unfit for leadership. An example of him being selfish is
when he sacrificed his own daughter, Iphegehia, to the gods so he would have good luck and a
safe journey to and from Troy. When Agamemnon returned home from the war his wife killed
him for sacrificing their lovely daughter. A time showing Agamemnon as ignorant was when he
almost lost all of the troops. He told them it was time to leave the war and head home. He was only
trying to weed out the cowards, but it turned out everyone ran for the ships. Thirdly, he refused to
give back Cressida, his slave girl, when he was supposed to. As a result, Apollo shot arrows of
pestilence at the Greeks. Many Greeks ended up being killed. Lastly, he was selfish and took
Achilles slave girl when his had to be returned. He said, It is my duty to take someone else s slave
to repay me for the loss of the lovely Cressida, for a king deprived is a half a king, and half a king
means defeat in warfare (p 29).
As you can see Ulysses is a brave, smart man who helped lead the Greeks to a tremendous victory.
On the other hand, Agamemnon caused suffering and pain for not only individuals but for all the
men fighting. Some believe that if the Greek troops had not been led by Agamemnon the war
would not have lasted as long. Maybe that statement would be true, maybe not, but we

Motivation Theories
Introduction
If I ask any person who is successful in whatever he or she is doing what motivates him/her, very
likely the answer will be goals . Goal setting is extremely important to motivation and success.
We are still students but almost everybody of us has been working somewhere. I have few simple
questions for you. So what motivates you? What do you expect from your current position? What
do you think are the most important aspects to a job?
A good first step towards understanding what motivates people is to ask What do people want
from their jobs? We might answer, money or power but really it is very difficult to judge because
depending on our own individual values and beliefs, we are not all motivated by the same ... Show

Safety needs Where the basic needs are reasonably satisfied we turn to thinking about protection
from danger, security and order so that we feel safe. These safety needs can be a concern for
physical safety but also covers psychological safety needs such as job security etc.
Social needs Once the first two needs are reasonably satisfied, social needs such as needing
acceptance, giving and receiving affection and belonging become things that people want
Ego needs Next comes people s need for achievement, self esteem, self confidence, respect and
status
Self Actualization needs finally at the top of the hierarchy once all of the other levels have been
reasonably satisfied is the need to become the person that we feel that we are capable of
becoming. This means that we have achieved what we consider to be our very best.
Maslow believed that the lower needs (physiology and safety etc) needed to be at least partially
covered before the higher needs (such as ego and self actualization) could be activated (In fact
Maslow believed that these two higher needs are very rarely satisfied in anyone).

Analysis Of Stumbling On Happiness By Daniel Gilbert
Known for his research on affective forecasting, the prediction of how the future can affect ones
emotional state, Daniel Gilbert, wrote a book explaining how people tend to have delusions of
their future which often misleads peoples happiness. This Harvard college professor of psychology
published one of the best time selling books, Stumbling on Happiness, arguing that imagination is
what triggers peoples joy. As a social psychologist Gilbert wanted to understand what is it that
truly causes that feeling to come. People continue believing in beliefs that aren t necessary true
simply because people and society can t handle the truth. For instance, if you give up after a
failure, you will never reach your goals. In the final chapter of Stumbling on Happiness, Gilbert
addresses how people who only imagine what will make them happy in the future tend to make
poor decisions. He includes how ...a lot of the advice we receive from others is bad advice that we
foolishly accept... while, a lot of the advice we receive from others is good advice that we foolishly

The Effects Of Dementia On The Brain Essay
Usually in chronic or progressive nature, Dementia is a syndrome where there is a deterioration
in one s cognitive function. Which is dramatically greater than normal cognitive deterioration
expected from normal aging. It is caused by a variety of diseases and injuries that affect the
brain, such as a stroke or Alzheimer s disease, 60 70% of cases are contributed to Alzheimer s.
Dementia affects memory, comprehension, calculation, language, judgment, thinking, and
learning capacity. This is devastating on the person affected and also the family of the person
affected and can commonly lead to deterioration in emotional control, motivation, and social
behavior. Worldwide, it is estimated that 47.5 million people are living with dementia, 7.7
million new cases every year, and it is estimated that 75.6 million will be affected in 2030.
Dementia is damage of nerve cells in several areas of the brain and affects people differently
based on the location of the damaged nerve cells. The type of dementia is usually grouped by
what they have in common, as in the area of the brain affected or whether they are progressive
(worsen over time). There also some dementias that are caused by a reaction to medications or
vitamin deficiencies and can possibly improve with treatment. Progressive dementias that progress
over time and are not reversible and have causes that are currently unknown but, over time, science
might be able to pinpoint a direct cause. Alzheimer s disease is the most

Ida should measure the impairment loss as the amount that the carrying value of the building
exceeds its fair value (ASC 360 10 35 17). Ida s impairment loss for the commercial building is
$600,000 (the carrying amount of the building $4,500,000 minus its fair market value 3,900,000).
Parent Company (IFRS)
* According to IAS 36.12 Ida should test for impairment when the asset s market value has
declined. Given the information provided that the competitor s sold their building for less than the
asking price suggests to management that the fair value of the building may have declined. An
impairment loss should be reported, If, and only if, the recoverable amount of an asset is less than
its carrying amount, the carrying amount of the asset shall be reduced to its recoverable amount.
That reduction is an impairment loss (IAS 36.59). IAS 36.74 states that the recoverable amount of a
cash‐generating unit is the higher of the cash‐generating unit s fair value less costs to sell
and its value in use. Ida s recoverable amount would be its value in use of $4,000,000. Therefore
Ida should report to its parent an impairment loss of $500,000 (Carrying value minus the Value in
use).

The Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis
There are many factors that influence female attraction towards men, and many of them are driven
by women s menstrual cycle. Sexual attraction in females has been shown to increase during the
ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle, which is the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill,
1998). Evolutionarily, this time is beneficial because it would be more likely for a femaleto conceive
if she were more prone to attraction towards men during her fertile period. It has also been shown
that female mate preferences change across the ovulatory cycle. Men with particular attributes, such
as facial symmetry, are preferred during the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998).
This can be explained by the Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis, first proposed by Gangestad and Thornhill
(1998). Gangestad and Thornhill (1998) make three predictions within this hypothesis. This first
prediction includes the good genes principle, that women are attracted to certain attributes that
signify that a malehas high genetic quality (Gildersleeve, Haselton, Fales, 2014). This could mean
that a certain individual possesses genes that would increase an offspring s fitness and, therefore
the parent s fitness, or do not possess genes that would be harmful to an offspring. Therefore,
theoretically, if a female were more attracted to a male based on the male having high quality genes,
she would more likely conceive an offspring with that individual. This would, in turn,

Feinberg Court Case
I agree with Feinberg. Criminals who have no or limited ability to perceive their motivations
should be treated differently from a legal standpoint. As a society it is difficult to justify blaming
these criminals for their actions and it is not morally acceptable. I also agree with Feinberg that
even if these people are excused from the legal punishments for actions that it is likely that they
should be removed from society in a different way, especially if there is a large likelihood that they
will cause harm. A case that exemplifies that is Durham V. United States. The argument in this case
is that Monte Durham was convicted of housebreaking and the case that will be quoted is an appeal
case in which they are insisting the conviction is overturned... Show more content on

The jurors should rule someone guilty if they believe that the accused was suffering from a mental
illness at that time and if the accused was suffering from a condition, but the condition did not
affect their actions, then they must be ruled guilty. However, if the accused was suffering from a
condition and the criminal behavior was a product of that condition then, the criminal should be
ruled not guilty. The court s ruling further exemplified some of the points made by Feinberg when
it discussed that jurors should be instructed by a psychiatrist about the mental illness and the
effects that the mental illness had in the specific case, and that the juror s should ask question
along the lines of did the accused know the difference between right and wrong, and did the
accused lose the power of will. These both relate to Feinberg because depending on the answer of
the psychiatrist the accused may have lost their rational ability to understand right and wrong or

Cold Water Recovery Essay
Literature Review
Recovery after exercise is crucial, whether it may be competitive athletics or amateur sports. The
way in which a person recovers can affect how a person feels by reducing the negative post
exercise effects such as muscle soreness/stiffness and general muscle fatigue. Cold water
immersion will be the first recovery modality reviewed. This method seems to be the most widely
used recovery tool within athletics. A review of other recovery methods such as contrast water
immersion stretching, self myofascial release, and massage will be completed to show as

Stretching, post exercise, is also a recovery technique used to combat the detrimental effects of
exercise. According the study conducted by Beckett, Schneiker, Wallman, Dawson, and Guelfi
(2009), a static stretching regimen of the lower extremity prime movers resulted in slower sprint
times for test participants. Results also revealed that stretching had detrimental effects on the
repeated sprint ability test. This study suggested that static stretching did not have a significant
impact on athletic performance or post activity recovery. Participants who performed static
stretching during their recovery period all recorded slower sprint and repeated sprint test times.
Conversely, Ray, Lago PeГ±as, CasГЎis, and Lago Ballesteros (2012), studied the effects of
stretching (passive recovery) twenty four hours post exercise, on subsequent testing for professional
soccer players. The researchers concluded that static stretching improved performance on counter
movement jump test for participants, but had no effect on 20 meter sprint times and agility testing.
This researchers suggested that the evidence found within this study is inconclusive, there is no
definitive way to decide if stretching had a positive impact on athlete recovery. Stretching, although
used by many practitioners and proven to aid in injury prevention does not seem to have a positive
or negative affect on recovery from the studies

The Economic Implication Of Walt Disney Co. Disney
The Economic Implication of Walt Disney Co. Disney is a topic that is well known not to only

multi billion dollar company. They produce everything from the movies, tv shows, to Disney
Parks, Disney Resorts, Cruises and Etc. with all these outlets are spread all around the world
from Shanghai, Honolulu to Orlando just to name a few. Movies and amusement parks have
been contributing to the economy for almost seventy seven years and are still going on strong.
Disney World and resorts alone account for 2.5% of Florida s gross domestic product about 18.2
billion dollars in annual economic activity as well. Disney, as we all may know is one of Florida
s greatest attractions. For instance according to the Disney Blog What Disney saw in 2008 was
those who drove tended to stay in Orlando a day or two longer on average. But they didn t travel
as frequently throughout the year, rather they saved it up for one long vacation. This means that
the number of visitors to the parks only declines slightly, and it also tends to spread the visits out
over the whole year. That s the pattern we saw in 2008 and 2009 and the pattern we re seeing
now. Disney world at Florida offers jobs and charges price, two thousand six people almost daily

Leadership Of Joan Of Arc
There have been many astonishing military leaders. From Alexander the Great, to Julius Caesar,
to Constantine the Great, and to Saladin. However, how many female military leaders do you
know? Joan of Arc is one of the most successful female leaders out there. Before she led an army,
Joan was just an ordinary peasant living in medieval France. She believed that God had selected
her to lead a victory over England. She convinced prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a
French army to the confined city of OrlГ©an, where it achieved a momentous victory over the
English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After the prince was crowned King Charles VII,
Joan was seized by Anglo Burgundian forces. She was then tried for witchcraft along with heresy,
and was found guilty. Since she was found guilty, she was burned at the stake in 1431, at the age
of 19. In 1920 she was canonized, but had long been considered one of the greatest saints, and an
permanent symbol of French unity. Joan of Arcwas from the village of DomrГ©my, in
northeastern France. She was the daughter of a tenant farmer, named Jacques d Arc. In fact, Joan
of Arc is the translated English name. Her real name is Jeanne d Arc. Joan was not taught to read
or write, but instead taught to love her Catholic Church and its teachings. During this time, France
was at war with England. (which is later known as the Hundred Years War) When she was 13, Joan
began to hear voices. She decided that these voices were sent

Downfall of Education System was No School Prayer
Since prayer was removed from public school classrooms in 1962, we have had a 6 fold increase
in violent crime, our divorce rate has tripled, births to single mothers have increased 5 fold, the
teenage suicide rate has tripled, and SAT scores have dropped 10%.(Creation Today). Reasons
that represent why prayer and moments of silence should be allowed in the public school
system will be expressed. This essay will represent the affirmative stance when regarding this
topic of school wide prayer and moments of silence. It is not coincidental that there has been an
increase in births to single mothers, divorce rates tripling, and teenage suicide increasing.
Allowing prayer in schools has set valuable standards and morals for graduates and current
pupils. Currently ninety percent of the countries kids are enrolled in the public school system
being influenced every single day they are present. Proven by previously mentioned statistics,
the majority of morals clearly dropped after the removal of prayer in public schools in 1962.
Without prayer, people have become more and more obliterate to God based values, this causes
people to neglect crucial things such as the sacredness of marriage. After 1963 divorces increased
by 300% each following year (Prayer in America) Many argue and take to the opposition that
marriage is just a piece of paper, when in all generality, it is a gift from God. Single mothers,

Illegal Drug Use And Prostitution
Money is often thought of as the root of all evil because it has been proven time and time again
that some people will do anything to get as much as possible. Some of the most profitable
organized crimes are so successful they are international but often rely on harming others to get
ahead. Illegal druguse, human trafficking and prostitutionare three of most lucrative crimes today
generating billions of dollars a year. The money is obtained illegally so the need for money
laundering is essential. Several factors go into each of these issues and some of these issues can
easily be tied to one another. Greed, survival, addiction and emotional needs are just a few factors
that drive the businesses of organized crime. As with any business, money is the fuel that keeps it
going. In many cases illegal drug use, prostitution and money laundering are found to be linked. An
example would be a person turning to prostitution in order to provide the funds necessary to get the
drugs that they needed. Money laundering can also include other sources such as illegally acquired
funds through financial transactions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2013). Issues of illegal drug use,
prostitution, and money laundering will always be a struggling issue in the world of crime.
Americans have had a complicated history with drugs, illegal or otherwise. Up until the early 20th
Century, many substances we now condemn as illegal were, not only legal, but widely used in
products sold to households across

Philosophy of Nursing
Philosophy of Nursing

Philosophy of Nursing I remember at a young age telling my mother that I wanted to be a nurse
just like her, she told me to choose a different path. Her response surprised me but did not stop me
from pursuing my dream. I am passionate about being a nurse and what that role means. With
recent frustrations with others in this profession I finally understood why my mother told me to
choose a different path. I have always believed that being a nurse is an honor, that we are the voice
of not only our patients but the communities they come from. When you continually work by those
who do not share those beliefs and values it can break you. A nurse that truly cares and understands

for my patients. I know that not all patients can be cured of illness so it important for me to

Nursing
There is a reason that nurses are required to report abuse, we are the voices for those who cannot
speak, and we are our community s advocates. I feel it our duty as nurses to educate communities
on health promotion and prevention. It is our duty as nurses to educate the government on what is
affecting our communities and advocate for improvements. Nursing is providing hope, it is
initiating change, and it is lifestyle; not a job.
Conclusion
I feel that being a nurse gives me the opportunity to be involved in as many aspects of nursing as
I can and to make a difference in as many ways possible. I am not entirely sure where I want my
nursing career to take me but I do know I want to change things. I have only been a nurse for
eleven years but in that time I have seen a dramatic change in the morale of our nurses and the
confidence that our community has in us. With healthcare reform and continuing economic decline
I see this to be only getting worse. I feel that it our responsibility as nurses to remember where we
came from. How it was in the beginning for nurses and what nurses as a group were able to

Impact of the Spanish Conquest on the Aztecs. Essay example
The Aztecs, part of modern day Mexico, were once the epitome of fine culture. They began their
rule of southern and central Mexico during the 14th century and practiced an incredibly wealthy
lifestyle. Nonetheless, this rule began to deteriorate when Spanish explorers disembarked at
Tabasco and Vera Cruz on April 21st 1519. When the Spanish voyagers first arrived, they were
welcomed warmly, respectfully and received Godlike treatment. Montezuma, the ruler at that time,
believed that the Spanish military leader, HernГЎn CortГ©s, was the great god Quetzalcoatl. The
Spanish took advantage of this Aztecbelief and conquered Mexicowithin two years. By 1521, the
Aztec culture was officially eradicated and a new culture, consisting of a... Show more content on

Although the major government system of Mexico was maintained, some of the changes made
to the government by the Spanish included the medieval concept of hierarchy and other local
habits similar to that of Spain. The hierarchy arrangement was in the shape of a pyramid; the
king, being at the top, had the power to command changes in extensive political matters.
Following the king was the Council of Indies , appointed by the head and acted as supporting
advisors. The audiencia or governors followed; this group included a cabinet, Supreme Court,
and an appointed head that was responsible for dealing with minor issues such as complaints,
state affairs, judiciary, etc. A Town Council or cabildo that was used was derived straight from
the urban areas of Spain. The council was comprised of a mayor, town constable, treasurer, clerk,
inspector of weights and measurers, surveyor, pageant master, etc, all of which had the title
regidores meaning members of the Council . Small organized groups were established, each
accountable for their own component in society, hence the Spanish can be credited for the reformed
government that allowed a smooth way of life for the people.
In addition to the various new government concepts, new foods and animals were also introduced to
Mexico. The agricultural factors were quite different from those of the governmental, as both the

Comparing The Works Of Bruckner And Richard Wagner
ruckner wrote the first version of the symphony in 1873. In September 1873, before the work was
finished, Bruckner visited Richard Wagner, whom he had first met in 1865 at the premiere of
Tristan und Isolde in Munich.[4] Bruckner showed both his Second and Third symphonies to
Wagner, asking him to pick one he preferred. To Bruckner s delight, Wagner chose the Third, and
Bruckner dedicated the symphonyto the master he highly respected. After getting home, Bruckner
continued to work on the symphony, finishing the finale on 31 December 1873.[5]
According to an anecdote, Bruckner and Wagner drank so much beer together that, upon arriving
home, Bruckner realized that he had forgotten which symphony Wagner had chosen. He wrote a

Why I Want To Be A Drummer
Drummers are perennially underrated. Some writers make rock critic jokes, even other musicians
make drummer jokes. But where would the Beatles be without their drummer Ringo Star. The real
human drummer was replaced with electronic computer machines during the eighties and nineties
for a while, but music fans realized that this was not as good as the sound of a real talented drummer
. The drummer does not just support the band they hold it up and push the forward. Robert Plant,
the lead singer of Led Zeppelin was very fond of his drummer, John Bonham, who was one of the
best drummers out there during his time and even today. When he passed away the lead singer
could not go on anymore in the band Led Zeppelin, because he knew it would not be the same
without his original and super talented drummer. The loss of... Show more content on

This goes to show just how important the drummer is and how they can keep a band together.
The argument on how much practice it takes to be a drummer is essential for new musicians to
learn about because if they truly want to be a drummer they must know that it is not the usual go
to instrument in a band. It takes so much patience and practice to become a good enough drummer
to even be in a band. It is also imperative to know how much work goes into becoming the
drummer because some fans may view the drummer as just the guy or girl in the background where
they need to realize how a band cannot be a band without the drummer. This argument is also for
the drummers out there who need to receive more recognition from their fans. Drumming has been
around forever, and it is such remarkable instrument to learn. Drummers may also

Destruction Of Anti-Intellectualism In The United States
Intellectuals Destruction
Anti Intellectualism is defined as a person opposed to or hostile toward intellectuals and the modern
academic, artistic, social, religious, and other theories associated with them. Anti intellectualism
defines a person who believes that intellect and reason are less important than actions and emotions
in solving practical problems and understanding reality. Anti Intellectualism is an epidemic worth
acknowledging; its prevalence in America is one of the nations most major hindrances to solving
the problems it faces collectively. Anti intellectualsentiment has its basis mostly in
misunderstanding, but a persistent stream of misinformation spewed by the impassioned yet
hollow rhetoric of shallow politicians and self proclaimed orators has only served to maintain
ignorance. Here I hope to explain the history and causes of anti intellectual belief as it has
manifested and grown in the United States of America and to demonstrate the detrimental effect it
has had and will have on our nation, continuing on to encourage whoever might view this essay to
reverse this trend by embracing objective problem solving and developing an interest in critical
thinking and the sciences.
America, although still young, has grown further into industrialization and exceeded in momentous
discoveries in science and mathematics; yet still harbors ill will against intellectuals and
knowledge. The population of America was still largely rural in the 19th century, agricultural

Bringing characters to life with Pixar s animator magic http://venturebeat.com /2013/04/24/how pixars animators bring characters to life with magic interview/ (2013) Dean Takahashi s assert reveals the interview between himself (VentureBeat) and Pixars supervising animator Scott Clark. During the interview, Scott Clark discusses about how complex animation has become over time from how animation used to be completed fifteen or so years ago and how this new technology takes animations to a whole new level, referring to their most recent film, Monsters University. The tools of technology has become a big fancy pencil said Clark. Even though there are dozens of new tools animators use in this time, there are still tools we use that were created almost 20 years ago. As technology advances, work becomes a little faster but still takes the patience trait needed. Takahashi asks Clark about having an army to create these films. Clark responds that as films get richer and complex, such as with more characters, that it pretty much takes an army to complete the film. Each person is hand animating something. Chang, Soojin. I had to be very articulate and an extremely good demonstrator when correcting Joshua with his exercises. A practicing Hasidic Jew, Joshua was not allowed to touch or be touched by a female. Touch for Gary, however, was crucial. Legally blind from the age of 6, Gary relied on his sense of touch, as well as my physical contact guiding him through the proper motions of his exercise program. Qing Yuan barely needed any guidance through her exercise program. Despite the significant language barrier that existed between her and everyone at the clinic, she had a doting son with her who would translate between Chinese and English. However, we later found out that her son would intentionally misinterpret certain medical information to his mother, that was thought in Chinese culture to bring shame to her. ... The argument against therapeutic cloning is that creating an exact replica of one s self all for the use of harvesting its parts is considered killing another human being. Some people fawn over the idea of cloning themselves and to have a replica of themselves be birthed by a surrogate mother. However, I believe that parents who are selfish would use the advantages of having a baby clone of themselves will overuse the power, and distinguish the rights of the baby. Since parents have legal right over medical decisions for the child, there is nothing from preventing them from harvesting their own child for their own good. I may be completely against reproductive cloning, however, some people and/or parents feel as if having a clone of a lost one will make up for their absence. Recreating someone doesn t mean that it is the same as the original because, with different external impacts, a clone can easily have different personalities, feelings, and memories. Therefore technically trying to bring back someone back, will be emotionally unsuccessful. Most, if not all, people s answer to that question would be a resounding yes, including mine. Over the years, more TV shows and movies have begun to incorporate what we would consider to be our heroes into them. These shows, or movies, consist of a hero, or heroes, that are typically aided by friends and a team that help them fight evil; two examples of this are Arrow and The Flash. Now, 14 years later, Barry works for Central City C.S.I and is quite good at his job. On one particular night a particle accelerator, created by Harrison Wells and was supposed to change the way everyone thought about physics, exploded releasing an unimaginable amount of dark energy. Lightning then struck Barry, which put him in a coma for nine months. After waking up, Barry began to notice certain things were slowing down... or so he thought. In reality, he was just moving unexplainably fast. When a man named Clyde Martin that can inexplicably control the weather starts terrorizing the city, Barry takes it upon himself to take him down. He speaks with Oliver Queen for advice, Barry knows Oliver is the Arrow, and Oliver tells him that he can inspire people the way he himself never could. Essay about Democratic Peace Theory The idea that democracies do not fight each other can be traced back to the writings of Immanuel Kant over two hundred years ago in essay On Perpetual Peace , however, only in the early 1980s and with the writings of Michael Doyle was the idea consolidated. According to Doyle and other advocates of the democratic peace theory, liberal democratic states have been able to maintain peaceful relations amongst themselves, but are prone to wage war against non democratic regimes. In order to prove this theory, vast databases have been constructed of historical dyadic relationships between states as well as detailed breakdowns of incidents of inter state war. The conclusions reached are best shown in the work of Bruce Russett who has argued that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So the theory suggests that because democracies externalise their interstate norms, they resolve disputes with other states like them in a peaceful way. Hence domestic inner state policies influence their foreign policies. However, this proclamation is disputed by C. Layne who argues that the crux of this theory is that if the assumption that democracies promote their peaceful inner state norms and beliefs, then they shouldn t ever threaten other democracies, especially not in a crisis. I will use the case study of the Trent affair to provide evidence of how war was avoided. I will argue that in this case, war was avoided not because of the domestic pacific influence on foreign policy but because of other strategic reasons. In 1861 there was an incident when the British mail ship Trent which was transporting J. M. Mason and J. Slidell on route from America to England, was stopped by the USS San Jacinto and the two men were arrested. This caused outrage amongst the British public, writes Layne, adding some of the reports from the time such as the people are frantic with rage... The problem was big enough and there was no need to make it bigger, which eventually later in the story results in Joseph s exile into Egypt. • 23. Wisdom In Plato s Dialogue Apology Wisdom is cement. Wisdom is used to make new pathways but is often referred to as intelligence. However they are not the same, some who are intelligent cannot receive wisdom because they are arrogant, but there are few that break this barrier and realize that they actually know nothing because they are forever learning. Such as Socratesin the dialogue Apology by Plato, Plato analyzes Socrates journey to disprove his wisdom by questioning the most respected and talented people in Athens. Through ethos and paradox Plato reveals a respectful tone for his mentor Socrates. Socrates makes himself more credible when he exposes his ethos to the audience. • 24. Social Movements And Collective Action Essay INTRODUCTION: Theories regarding social movements and collective action are precisely significant and valuable. They allow us to describe and explain such movements how they form and organize, their agendas, the extent to which mobilization or counter mobilization process succeeds or fails in different situations, and how they evaluate strategies and policies in the light of specific outcomes. Self evidently, the terms and perceptions and the dialogue that we bring to bear must be in coherence with the particular social movementthat we are studying. Theories neither ascend nor activate in an empty space, they have an itemized background behind their emergence and they are revolutionized in response to the realities of the subject matter. As a result of the writings and research there has been a lot of debate regarding diverse perspectives of various researchers. Advances and defense of the existing school of thoughts were also presented along with the emergence of new school of thoughts altogether. Comprehensive research related to social movements is being conducted not only in the field of social sciences, but also in politics, communication and history. The purpose of this chapter is to review some of the theories of social movements. The theories that we have discussed are Mass Society Theory, Marxist theory, Relative Deprivation Theory, Resource Mobilization Theory and Framing theory. • 25. Trojan War Essay In the book The Trojan War, by Bernard Evslin, Ulysses and Agamemnon both contribute to the Greek s victory. Many considered Ulysses to be the real brains behind the Greek forces. Although Agamemnon was the leader of the Greeks, many would say he was not a good one. Even though Agamemnon did some good deeds during the war, many of his actions caused problems, and Ulysses often had to come to his rescue. With Ulysses on the Greeks side they had amazing intelligence and bravery. Many great things happened because of Ulysses leadership. One example is when Ulysses dressed as a peddler, found where Achilles was hiding, and brought him back to fight in the war. Ulysses knew he had to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His stupidity and arrogance made him unfit for leadership. An example of him being selfish is when he sacrificed his own daughter, Iphegehia, to the gods so he would have good luck and a safe journey to and from Troy. When Agamemnon returned home from the war his wife killed him for sacrificing their lovely daughter. A time showing Agamemnon as ignorant was when he almost lost all of the troops. He told them it was time to leave the war and head home. He was only trying to weed out the cowards, but it turned out everyone ran for the ships. Thirdly, he refused to give back Cressida, his slave girl, when he was supposed to. As a result, Apollo shot arrows of pestilence at the Greeks. Many Greeks ended up being killed. Lastly, he was selfish and took Achilles slave girl when his had to be returned. He said, It is my duty to take someone else s slave to repay me for the loss of the lovely Cressida, for a king deprived is a half a king, and half a king means defeat in warfare (p 29). As you can see Ulysses is a brave, smart man who helped lead the Greeks to a tremendous victory. On the other hand, Agamemnon caused suffering and pain for not only individuals but for all the men fighting. Some believe that if the Greek troops had not been led by Agamemnon the war would not have lasted as long. Maybe that statement would be true, maybe not, but we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Stumbling On Happiness By Daniel Gilbert Known for his research on affective forecasting, the prediction of how the future can affect ones emotional state, Daniel Gilbert, wrote a book explaining how people tend to have delusions of their future which often misleads peoples happiness. This Harvard college professor of psychology published one of the best time selling books, Stumbling on Happiness, arguing that imagination is what triggers peoples joy. As a social psychologist Gilbert wanted to understand what is it that truly causes that feeling to come. People continue believing in beliefs that aren t necessary true simply because people and society can t handle the truth. For instance, if you give up after a failure, you will never reach your goals. In the final chapter of Stumbling on Happiness, Gilbert addresses how people who only imagine what will make them happy in the future tend to make poor decisions. Parent Company (IFRS) * According to IAS 36.12 Ida should test for impairment when the asset s market value has declined. Given the information provided that the competitor s sold their building for less than the asking price suggests to management that the fair value of the building may have declined. That reduction is an impairment loss (IAS 36.59). IAS 36.74 states that the recoverable amount of a cash‐generating unit is the higher of the cash‐generating unit s fair value less costs to sell and its value in use. • 30. The Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis There are many factors that influence female attraction towards men, and many of them are driven by women s menstrual cycle. Sexual attraction in females has been shown to increase during the ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle, which is the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998). Evolutionarily, this time is beneficial because it would be more likely for a femaleto conceive if she were more prone to attraction towards men during her fertile period. It has also been shown that female mate preferences change across the ovulatory cycle. Men with particular attributes, such as facial symmetry, are preferred during the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998). This can be explained by the Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis, first proposed by Gangestad and Thornhill (1998). Gangestad and Thornhill (1998) make three predictions within this hypothesis. This first prediction includes the good genes principle, that women are attracted to certain attributes that signify that a malehas high genetic quality (Gildersleeve, Haselton, Fales, 2014). This could mean that a certain individual possesses genes that would increase an offspring s fitness and, therefore the parent s fitness, or do not possess genes that would be harmful to an offspring. Therefore, theoretically, if a female were more attracted to a male based on the male having high quality genes, she would more likely conceive an offspring with that individual. As a society it is difficult to justify blaming these criminals for their actions and it is not morally acceptable. A case that exemplifies that is Durham V. United States. The argument in this case is that Monte Durham was convicted of housebreaking and the case that will be quoted is an appeal case in which they are insisting the conviction is overturned... The court s ruling further exemplified some of the points made by Feinberg when it discussed that jurors should be instructed by a psychiatrist about the mental illness and the effects that the mental illness had in the specific case, and that the juror s should ask question along the lines of did the accused know the difference between right and wrong, and did the accused lose the power of will. Results also revealed that stretching had detrimental effects on the repeated sprint ability test. However, how many female military leaders do you know? Joan of Arc is one of the most successful female leaders out there. Before she led an army, Joan was just an ordinary peasant living in medieval France. She believed that God had selected her to lead a victory over England. She convinced prince Charles of Valois to allow her to lead a French army to the confined city of OrlГ©an, where it achieved a momentous victory over the English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After the prince was crowned King Charles VII, Joan was seized by Anglo Burgundian forces. She was then tried for witchcraft along with heresy, and was found guilty. Since she was found guilty, she was burned at the stake in 1431, at the age of 19. In 1920 she was canonized, but had long been considered one of the greatest saints, and an permanent symbol of French unity. Joan of Arcwas from the village of DomrГ©my, in northeastern France. She was the daughter of a tenant farmer, named Jacques d Arc. In fact, Joan of Arc is the translated English name. Her real name is Jeanne d Arc. Joan was not taught to read or write, but instead taught to love her Catholic Church and its teachings. During this time, France was at war with England. Illegal Drug Use And Prostitution Money is often thought of as the root of all evil because it has been proven time and time again that some people will do anything to get as much as possible. Illegal druguse, human trafficking and prostitutionare three of most lucrative crimes today generating billions of dollars a year. The money is obtained illegally so the need for money laundering is essential. Several factors go into each of these issues and some of these issues can easily be tied to one another. Greed, survival, addiction and emotional needs are just a few factors that drive the businesses of organized crime. As with any business, money is the fuel that keeps it going. In many cases illegal drug use, prostitution and money laundering are found to be linked. An example would be a person turning to prostitution in order to provide the funds necessary to get the drugs that they needed. Money laundering can also include other sources such as illegally acquired funds through financial transactions (Adler, Mueller, Laufer, 2013).
