Trench warfare, is the military discipline and strategy of digging and barricading a large system
of trenches from which an army may fight while remaining somewhat protected. As one army
entrenched it s self so would the other, after both opposing armies had entrenched themselves
they would attempt to circle around each other to out flank each other; the ultimate goal being
to defend one s own trench, while trying to take the enemy s. This method of defensive battle
often resulted in long stalemates, in which many soldiers were killed. Trench warfare also
results in the creation of a No Man s Land , or the space between two opposing militaries
trenches. This area was often striped barren of any plant life, due to the high amounts of gun and

found at the battle of the Marne in the September of 1914. Germany, following the Schlieffen
Plan, attempted to march on Paris. However, after entering French territory, the French pushed

On November 8, 2015, I attended the Mixed Chamber Ensembles at Dr. Bobbie Bailey Family
Performance Center, Morgan Hall. I was very happy that weekend, because my family came up to

I opened the black hatch on the lid of the fish tank. Turning open the lid of the plastic container, I
reached inside and took out a pinch of the musty smelling fish food flakes. I sprinkled the flakes
over the water in the fish tank and watched as the 5 fish swam up, gulping up the thin copper,
crimson, and mahogany colored flakes. I watched until the fish swam away, finished with their
meal. I then closed the hatch, put away and closed the jar of fish food, and walked out of my
room. Feeding time was over. Just a couple days ago, I had been at Petsmart with my family.
The fish tanks at Petsmart were all lined up against the walls, illuminated by blue and violet
lights. Each fish tank held fish of all kinds of different shapes, colors, and sizes. My family had
bought 5 glimmering fish, a bag of fish care supplies, and when we got home, my mom and dad

The China Boom: Why China Will Not Rule the World, by Ho fung Hung. New York: Columbia

Ho fung Hung s work attempts to reconcile the widespread expectation that China s rise would lead
to a fundamental change in the global status quo with the observed fact that China has become
increasingly connected to and one with the global status quo. To do this, he must first examine
China s rise and prove that it upholds the global status quo, and further must look into the origins of
China s rise, going back to the 13th century, to understand why this rise seemingly changed so little
about the global world order.
Hung s stated goals are as follows. First, he aims to outline the historical origins of the capitalist
boom in China as well as the conditions which predicated said boom. He also names four
conceptions against history to explore the global effects of China s capitalist boom and the limit
of that boom. Firstly, he seeks to challenge the notion that China is challenging the United States
neoliberal order. Secondly, he examines the belief that the increasing incomes of poor Chinese
citizens helps to reverse worldwide income polarization. Thirdly, he analyzes the claim that China
s rise is challenging Western dominion over the world, and is radically altering the world order.
Lastly, he plans to evaluate the assertion that China has been emerging as the most powerful driver

One of the most basic and apparent themes is that society holds everyone together, and without

People (U.S. Constitution). Reasonableness suggests that the framers of the Constitution would

It s uncanny concept to cogitate, so many explications are out there and we still don t have the

The hypothesis Locke had was that matter itself, does exist. He utilized the term material
substance, which subsists outside our minds and our perceptions are caused due to this matter.
(Prof. Stanley, 12). This hypothesis expounds why we cannot control our own sense data. They
are caused by material substances that do exist in our mind. His initial argument is that matter is
real and is a component to the cause of our perceptions. Locke s limited representationalism was
that some properties of our sense data look homogeneous to properties of the matter that cause

on Lady Macbeth. The fight between her morals, values, and ambitions are evident throughout the
play, but her mental instability is clearly shown in this scene.
What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? This quote shows
the struggle between the Id and Superego. Lady Macbeth worries that someone will find about
their crimes, and fears the punishment, but at the same time, she believes that there is no one

Emily Dickinson often refers to loss and absence in her poetry. It is not often seen as strictly
negative though. It is, however, seen as inevitable. It is not always inevitable in the negative
sense though. It is sometimes seen as necessary in order to understand life. There seems to be an

Poem 870 demonstrates absence and loss as inevitable. The poem is obviously a reference to the
Greek myth of Jason and the Argonauts. The lines Third, Expedition for / The Golden Fleece
demonstrate this. In this myth Pelias agrees to surrender the throne of Iolkos to Jason if he brings

In our world, social stratification has had a very large influence on every person s life since the
dawn of civilization. All societies are stratified, the only thing setting them apart is the differing
criteria that society uses to separate individuals or families. From Europeans using kings, queens,

While many different types of schools and educational movements have influenced the American
education system that we have today, two primary influences are the American common school
movement and the Latin grammar school movement. Common schools were first started in the
1830 s and 1840 s and consisted of a universal curriculum with multiple types of schools. They
were also provided by the government. The Latin grammar schools came into being around the
1870 s to 1900 s and were used as secondary education to prepare young men for college. While
both schools have different characteristics that contribute to the differences of them, they also have

Colonies. The chapter is called The Great Plains and discusses the history of that geographical
region from 1680 1800. Taylor begins by explaining how warfare both sustained and weakened
New Mexico. It maintained unity, because without an external enemy to focus on, the Pueblo
people would rise up in revolt against Mexico. However, the constant warfare discouraged any
