Substantive Scientific Testimony
How a Federal Court Decides On the Admissibility of Scientific Testimony
Both substantive law and procedural law application play a part in establishing whether a scientific
testimony will be allowed in a federal court. The substantive law establishes whether the scientific
theory in question is connected with a case in an important and acceptable way. On the other hand,
the procedural law determines whether a scientific testimony has enough basis for it to be deemed
useful in establishing factual and legal issues in a court case. Federal courts apply the substantive
laws of the states that they are in. Since substantive laws vary from state to state, the admissibility
of scientific testimony about substantive law also depends on that ... Show more content on

According to Hodgson and Dearborn, they pointed out that though human evidence of an association
between mycotoxins and human health is anecdotal and based on case reports and series, the
standards generally regarded as evidence in environmental medicine are met, including controlled
studies in animals, the development of animal models with diseases that parallel the human
experience, and studies of the mycotoxins at subcellular levels (Hodgson and Dear born, 2002 and
references therein). There is a need for physical examinations and diagnostic as environmental
related. For example, S. chartarum produces tricothecene mycotoxins that produce a deadly
cytotoxic syndrome by shutting down protein synthesis when concentrated. They are unique among
biological toxins relative to chemical toxins. Trichothecene mycotoxins associated with poorly
ventilated buildings and contaminated buildings by ELISA assays. However, pulmonary
hemorrhagic and hemosiderosis occurred in a hospital nursery and investigator concluded it was
due to heavy mold growth in the building. Several years later, investigator retracted and reviewed
of this case because of quality of evidence insufficient to conclude an association. A growing body
of evidence supports that S. charatrum may be the cause of epidemic and isolated case of
pulmonary hemorrhage and hemosiderosis in infant lungs

The New England Area And The Chesapeake Area
The English were early settlers in America. Two of their areas of settlement were the New
England area and the Chesapeake area. Even though these two places were settled by the same
country, both of their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were
their motives for colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to
serve God, and to be a City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact,
document A, We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are
upon us. Document D also states that they want to share equal planting ground, and that
everyone in the colony will have a home. Document B shows that the colony was structured
more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by God s grace... to produce some Godly and
faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church covenant to walk in all the ways of
Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says that they intend to not be
selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression. New England in general
was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to each other and also to
the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. The main motive of the Chesapeake area was to
make money and to own land in the new world. This is shown by how their colonies starved to
death in the beginning. When they arrived in America they thought that there would be

Analysis Of The Movie Copycat
Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character named Helen
Hudson (Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the behavior of serial killers. At
the beginning of the film she is giving a lecture at the University of San Francisco and at the end
of the lecture, Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick, Jr.) follows Helen into the restroom and tries
to hang her, but fails and gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from
panic attacks and agoraphobia which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
She has been housebound for months now and has a homosexual assistant named Andy (John
Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with William McNamara, another psychopath who wants to
follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps and become famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his
work of killing Helen. He does this by copying other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne
Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc. Three murders have occurred and Helen notices
through newspapers that each murder seems to be done by one person. Therefore, she calls the
police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock her and brush her off as a prank call. However,
Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly Hunter) becomes curious and starts to think that Helen would be
able to add to the investigation. So she obtains the case files and wants to get Helen s opinion on
the case. At first Helen is reluctant to help because as M.J. Monaham starts to

Compare And Contrast Quantitative And Quantitative Research
Qualitative and quantitative research are methods used in Sociology to explain and describe data.
However, these methods contrast in different important aspects.
According to Denscombe, M., (2010), even though, both quantitative and qualitative research use
the same methods to collect the information, interviews, surveys, observations, as primary data, and
documents, as a secondary data; how the results are put and collected and how the method is
conducted will determine the final result, whether to get qualitative or quantitative data.
On one hand, in quantitative research, the surveys are conducted through questionnaires. These are a
set of questions to be asked to the respondent and are used to test a theory. The questionnaire is done

Types Of An Equilibrium System
STSE: Equilibrium Systems
1. Choose a process which uses an equilibrium system.
How calcium oxalate kidney stones form in a human body?
Calcium oxalate stones are the most common type of kidney stones to form. They are solid
masses that form within the kidney because of a great amount of oxalate in one s urine and too
little liquid. Oxalate is found in foods, and when the body is done processing the nutrients it
requires from digestion, waste products travel to the kidneys. The kidneys make urine which
removes these waste products, however if there are too many waste products present in too little
liquid, there are crystals that form. Crystals will then stick together to form a kidney stone which
can t get passed through and out of the body as urine. Crystals that are specific to kidney stones are
formed of oxalate which sticks to calcium also found in the kidneys. The formation of calcium
oxalate kidney stones is an equilibrium system.
2. Write the balanced equation for the system.
CaC2O4 (s) ( removed HTML ) Ca2+(aq) + C2O42 (aq)
The forward reaction for this reversible reaction shows calcium oxalate breaking down into calcium
and oxalate ions.
The reverse reaction is where calcium and oxalate ions form calcium oxalate kidney stones.
3. Explain the shifts that occur in this equilibrium using Le Chatelier s Principle.
In terms of Le Chatelier s Principle, there are changes in concentration, temperature, volume and
pressure that can occur to

However, despite several efforts, unfortunately we cannot have a lot of expectations from start ups
industry, in particular high tech ones, because of the lack, all over Europe and not only in Italy, of
an effective venture capital market that constitutes, so far, the essential fuel for this sector. While in
USA social venturists as well as venture capitalists are very active, in Italy too little attention is
given to social innovation, which contrarily is arousing into the other communitarian countries
more and more interest and that recently the EU has promoted with its Social Business Initiative .
In particular, the just mentioned strategy by European Union aims to set up all those measures
useful to fight poverty and social exclusions, and meanwhile, through SBI, the Brussels based
organism wants to strengthen growth, employment and competitiveness, creating simultaneously a
more inclusive society.
Referring to this initiative, it comes to light that social enterprises and, more generally, all the
actors involved in the social environment have a fundamental role to play. Going deeply into their
tasks, they should apply business strategies to tackle important social goals such as ameliorate
society or protecting the environment. Moreover, they have to play closer to their own
communities, promoting

Voltaire s View Of Voltaire
Voltaire was an enlightenment provider who wrote many play and books. He was a famous
writer, who made a lot of money and he wanted money. So everything he accomplished, he did
because he thought people are going to buy for him to be rich. One of his most famous is the
story of Candide in which he wrote to be entertained. The book is a satire in which Voltairein some
way criticizes the institutions, and the people. Although Voltaire s societies had many advances,
this made him criticize different elements of his societies.
In the 1700s the Europeans had so many advances. They had conquered territories around the
world. They were wealthy and their societies had advanced intellectually. By the 1700s, the
Europeans thought they are at the top and they can get any better than this. This is what makes
Voltaire criticize part of Europeans. Voltaire did satirize different institutions for instance, other
philosophers, many religious people, protestant pastors, and minority groups. He criticizes the
church when the old woman begun saying you must know that I am the daughter of pope Urban X
and of the princess of Palestrina (In chapter 11) . Voltaire explains that there is no pope named
Urban X and he uses this opportunity to condemn the church. He means that the Catholic Church is
exceedingly corrupt and it shouldn t be an institution. He also points out that the church members
are indeed silly even though they are taking vows. Voltaire doesn t understand why people attend

The Potential Growth Of Companies
Our purpose is to find the potential growth of companies in both the large cap and small mid cap
category of biotechnology industry.
Therefore, we selected two mature companies and two companies that are in development stage.
Our choices mainly base on the companies pipeline because biotechnology companies lives or dies
depending on their pipeline, level of expertise and network of partners/distributors they have. For
mature companies, we looked at their financial strength, the source of financing they have to fund
their research and development, as well as their products breadth in the pipeline. We prefer mature
companies with dominating market shares and are focusing on common diseases, cancer or heart
diseases. For that reason, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Summary Of 1 And 2 Kings By Jeremiah
The books of 1 and 2 Kings were written by Jeremiah who lived around 627 BC. The books were
written with messages of repentance, but these messages were not received well as his
hometown persecuted him. Kings was written to the Israelites trying to explain their fate. The
book is more of a warning because of the peoples abandonment of their faith, or apostasy.
Jeremiah wants the people to be restored to the days when David ruled Israel. The Old
Testament in general is filled with prophecy and preparation for the coming of Jesus. The book
of 1 Kings gives this message in the form of lessons, metaphors and other interpretations. In this
passage Elijah went into a cave to take shelter from the harsh weather. Elijah had just walked
forty days and forty nights to the mountain of Horeb or the mountain of God. He took this
journey because he was fleeing Jezebel who was trying to have Elijah murdered because of his
faith. While in the cave Elijah heard the Lord speaking to him. The Lord told Elijah to walk out
of the cave after Elijah presented his worries to God. Elijah quickly noticed that he could not hear
the Lord in the wind or earthquake or fire. Rather, Elijah could hear the Lord as a whispering
sound. Elijah... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of this use of metaphor can be seen in verse 11 of chapter 19 in 1 Kings, Then the
LORD said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD (1 Kings 19:11). To stand before
the LORD means, not literally to stand, but to lessen yourself in the presence of God. This
metaphor means to serve the Lord, or being a servant of God. Standing before God is being
vulnerable, honest and open, letting God work in you. This means allowing God in your life. For
Elijah this was alluding to him returning to Damascus and appointing new kings of Israel and
Aram. In this passage God is telling Elijah to trust in Him and have faith, that His plans are above

Sugar Beets And Its Effects On The United States
Sugar beets are grown throughout the world. Mostly where there are cooler temperatures and
climates. Sugar beets are grown in countries like China, United States, Russia, and Japan. Russia
is the leading producer of sugar beets with the United States trailing in third. Some of the states
in the United States that grow sugar beets are Nebraska, California, Colorado, Minnesota, and
Wyoming. Some small farmers have figured out that you can also grow sugar beets in some
warmer climates as well. Farmers have also figured out that sugar beets attract a lot of deer and
now they are looking at feeding sugar beets to livestock. Some sheep and cattle ranchers graze their
sheep and cattle on their sugar beetcrop. The cattle will eat the leafy tops of the beets. But
sometimes the cattle will eat some of the smaller sugar beets and choke on them. The sugar beet
tops can also be used as silage because it is an excellent source of protein. Sugar beets are most
commonly known as a commercial crop grown for sucrose production. Sugar beets and sugar
cane are two of the leading factors for sugar in the United States. Sugar beets accounts for just
over half of the sugar production. Sugar beets in the United States are usually planted anywhere
between April 20th to May 10th. It is said that if you wait till after May 10th, then your yields
might fall. It takes about 90 to 95 days for sugar beets to reach maturity. The ideal daytime
temperatures are between 80 to 60 degrees and the ideal

Research Paper On Okinawa
History of Okinawa (жІ–зё„зњЊ) Okinawa or formally known as the Ryukyu kingdom is the most
southern prefecture of Japan. Its capital Naha is located in the southern end of a chain of island
that spans over 1000km including hundreds of small islands between Kyushu and Taiwan. The
climates of the islands range from humid subtropical towards the northern end to tropical
rainforest climates in the south. Of the hundreds of island, less than half are inhabited while
much of the other island are coral reefs and too small to live on. Because of the lack of land and
the difference in climate between the different islands, agriculture was a slow development from
the 8th century to the 12th century. The Okinawa islands are not suited for wet rice farming as

Due to Okinawa s geographical advantage, it was a launch pad for covert missions over South
East Asia. Growing tension between the people and the military highlighted the anti Vietnam war
sentiment that connected the political views for the reversion of Okinawa to Japan (Morrocco).
More controversy grew alleging the storage of Nuclear weapons on Okinawa and growing fears
over the escalating Vietnam War as people perceived this as being a potential target for
Communist China as they could feel threatened by the US military power. As more information
leaked out the local population grew fear for the potential of a retaliation by the Chinese
government (Mitchell). The Okinawa uprising, also known as the Koza riot was a violent and
spontaneous protest against the US military personnel in Okinawa. This event which occurred on
December 20, 1970 was symbolised as the Okinawan anger against the 25 years of military
occupation. This was one of the many challenges that Okinawans faced

The Problem Of Offender Profiling
Offender profiling can be described as the process often used in extremely serious offences such as
serial murder or sexual assault. The process aims to identify unique characteristics about the
offender through examining the characteristics of the offence and gathering information about the
victim (Farrington, 2007) as well as using information gained from previous similar offences before
gradually building up an offender profile.
In order for offender profiling to be considered useful, it must gather detailed information about the
offender, victim and crime scene which can then be used effectively by police detectives to
eliminate any suspects who do not match with the profiler s offender specification and aid
authorities in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The information gained from the interviews was paired with information from the FBI s
Behavioural Science Unit as well as examinations of forensic evidence, nature of attacks and the
crime scene itself.
The crime is then put into a classification system of being either organised or disorganised by
building a set of characteristics likely to be identified in each category in order to distinguish the
type of criminal that may have committed the offence.
For a criminal to be considered organised this would mean that evidence had been found that
suggested the offender had carefully planned out the offence before it had taken place, left very
few clues and had carried out the crime with a stranger as the victim. It is also inferred that an
organised criminal would have an above average IQ, be sexually and socially competent and in a
highly skilled occupation. Whereas a disorganised offender would display the opposite
characteristics and would typically be found to leave clues, have a below average IQ, be sexually
and socially incompetent etc. Once the profile of the criminal has been established, investigative
suggestions are then made based on the profile (Douglas et al, 1992).
In the Bottom Up Approach , evidence is gathered to find information that will reflect

Australia, Chile, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, Mexico, and Brunei Darussalam.
Together they represent about 40% of the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The TPP is

Dick s Sporting Goods Vs Sports Authority: A Website Comparison
When accessing a website there are certain peculiarities that may enhance or distract from a
pleasant experience. If those peculiarities are too great, a visitor is likely to leave the web page
without completing the intended objective of the site owner. Toward that end, this paper
compares the websites of two similar online retailers Dick s Sporting Goods (Dick s) and Sports

Product pages were of similar items, by the same manufacturer if possible. The criteria used was
modified from published lists however since most of these lists are several years old the author
has eliminated some criteria that is obsolete with advances in technology and speed and included
some criteria that is relative in today s era of mobility, privacy and security concerns.

The Green Bird, By Carlo Gozzi
The eighteenth century marked a period of renewal within Italy. This transition saw the acceptance
of new philosophies that were rampant throughout most of Europe (Yawney 2). The Age of
Enlightenment, as it has come to be known, brought upon changes within the realms of economic,
social, and religious affairs. However, amidst any form of radical change come those who do not
attest to it. In his fable, The Green Bird, Venetian dramatist Carlo Gozziincorporates subject matter
that attacks not only the realism seen in Carlo Goldonis theatre but also the thought of modern
Enlightenment ideology.
The first half of the Age of Enlightenment saw Italy more as a spectator as opposed to an active
participant within the ever changing affairs of Europe. Italy could not yet incorporate the growing
ideology of the Enlightenment due to the Roman Catholic Church that governed the land. However,
with the decline of that absolute ecclesiastical authority near the latter half of the eighteenth
century, Italy gradually delved into enlightenment thought, and slowly became part of the
movement that was dominating Europe. The continuance of scientific research ensued, which led
to studies in history and archaeological science. Recognition of social conditions throughout Italy
influenced the study of economics and socio political issues. These new philosophies proved to be
the main concerns within the intellectual community as the eighteenth century progressed. (Yawney

The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf Essay
The Death of the Moth by Virginia Woolf The Death of the Moth, written by Virginia Woolf,
explains the brief life of a moth corresponding with the true nature of life and death. In this essay,
Woolf puts the moth in a role that represents life. Woolf makes comparisons of the life outside to
the life of the moth. The theme is the mystery of deathand the correspondence of the life of the
moth with the true nature of life. The images created by Woolf are presented that appeal to the
eye. For instance, the moth s body during the death is appealing to the eye. The image makes the
reader more interested. The essence of true life is energy. As Woolf describes, I could fancy that a
thread of vital light became visible. He was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then, as the essay continues, Woolf begins to be more interested and starts to feel a sense of pity
or sympathy for the moth. As described here, Watching him, it seemed as if a fibre, very thin and
pure, of the enormous energy of the world had been thrust into his frail and diminutive body (426
427). This sentence shows Woolfs attitude starting to change towards the moth. In the beginning of
the essay, Woolf does not show the interest like she does towards the end of the essay. When the
moth starts to go through death the tone changes dramatically and Woolf is a state of wonder and
awe for the moth.
When the moth is dying Woolf uses lengthier sentences to bring out the importance of the situation:
One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom
which could, had it chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human
beings; nothing, I knew, had any chance against death. (428)
The lengthier sentences also help to explain the wonder and awe that Woolf expresses towards the
moth. The wonder and awe that she expressed was due to the power and inevitability of the death.
Woolf was in awe that death is inevitable and that she could not do anything about it. The next
stylistic device is personification. By definition personification is to think of or represent as having
human qualities or life. Woolf applies this device to

1.3 New Labour Tough on Crime
The way in which young people are represented and understood in relation to crime has changed
rapidly over the last century, undoubtedly the biggest change came about after the moral panic
caused by the murder of the toddler James Bulger by two 10 year old boys in February 1993.
Since then youth crime in general has been at the centre of public, media and government scrutiny.
Not wanting to appear soft on crime Tony Blair as shadow home secretary in 1993 declared that
Labour would be tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime . He laid down the contours of
New Labour s so called respect agenda . In which he differentiated between what he called the law
abiding majority and the unruly minority . Thus there has been no surprise that under the New
Labour Government young people have become subject to

Maltese Falcon as a Film Noir Essay
Maltese Falcon as a Film Noir
Film Noir is a French word which means: dark or black film. This is very fitting as Film Noir and
the Maltese falcon are stories of dark deceptive people who often cannot be trusted. Film Noir is a
good example of this as the story is about a detective called Sam Spade who gets dragged into the
quest for the Maltese Falcon with a compulsive liar Kasper Gutman. The Maltese Falcon is a large
bird made of solid gold worth millions. The main six conventions of Film Noir as I can see are
The plot, lighting , dialogue, body language, stock characters and camera angles.
The film is about a group of 5 people fighting to find and keep the golden jewel encrusted ... Show

In the shot Spade is on the right and Bridgid on the left. Spade is wearing a hat, the light is
projected so that the shadow covers his eyes. Eyes often show how a person is really feeling,
with these hidden Spade looks as he is the bad deceptive one, this is another twist to the plot. O
Shaughnessy is on the left, the light on her face is very different. Her face is lit up so her whole
face is visible, her eyes are large and she looks very innocent. Light is often projected on the
females faces as to make them look vulnerable and truthful, when is this instance Bridgid is the
opposite. Another example is when Spade is being questioned by two investigators, in this scene
Spade sits in the middle of them both so his face is visible but only the back of the other two
investigators. There is only one lamp in this frame and all the rays are focused on Spade, this as
with the others makes him look innocent, which in this case he is, but with the twists you are not
sure.
Outdoor lighting is quite similar, outside scenes are usually lit by headlights and street lamps. A
scene outside is a good place for someone to hide as the beam of light is often focused on one direct
spot. A good example is when Miles Archer

The Media s Negative Effects On Law Enforcement
When an individual chooses a career in law enforcement they realize it can be a very rewarding,
yet dangerous career path to take. Most people often hear about all the potential dangers such as
officer involved shootings and physical confrontations before making the choice to join the ranks
of the few who will always stand for what is right. However, today there is a new danger to law
enforcement known as the mass media which adds a whole new realm of difficulty to an already
taxing job. The negative effects of the media can be felt nationwide by law enforcement agencies
and these effects include creating a divided community, unrealistic expectations, and the devastation
of current and future law enforcement careers. This presentation... Show more content on

The media understands which topics are going to cause people to stop everything and listen
better than anybody else. One of those topics is racially motivated brutality by police officers.
This has become a major issue in the United States lately and the media adds fuel to the fire any
chance they can get for their 15 seconds of fame. A good example of how the media turns
regular law enforcement incidents into a topic of race is the way they word their headlines.
This is especially true of articles as they want catchy titles in hopes of catching the attention of
readers. Getting an individual to actually take the time to read an article is tricky business today
as reading is considered by many to be a lost art. What better way is there for the media to attract
attention than by saying a certain race is under attack? For example, the title Man Tasered for
resisting arrest probably would not garner that much attention by today s standards. However if
it gets a media makeover and is now, Black man Tasered by officer for resisting arrest , it will
likely receive more attention. This is an unfair practice that stirs up more controversy and hate
for law enforcement officers from those who can t see past the racial propaganda. Cases like
these are popping up all too frequently and as the reader has probably seen they can lead to civil
unrest and

Essay on The Science of Rocks
1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks extrusive and
intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of igneous rocks is that the rocks are
formed in two separate locations: within the Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35).
Extrusive igneous rocks form when magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth
s surface (35). Since the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks,
also commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too small to be
seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). For example, basalt is a common very fine
grained volcanic rock. On the other hand, intrusive igneous rocks form when... Show more content

The difference in the mineral composition is apparent in the rocks color and grain texture. Since
basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark color, while granite tends to
have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is
an extrusive igneous rock, it has a very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly
impossible to see (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous
rock, meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and crystals
are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36).
3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided into four
categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic sedimentary rock is composed of
particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have
been transported, deposited, and lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and
sandstone, are composed of fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). Moreover, organic
sedimentary rocks consist of lithified remains of plants or animals, and the most common examples
are coal, which is made up of decomposed and compacted plant remains and

Air Masses: Types and Characteristics
An air mass is an extremely large body of air with temperatures and moisture characteristics that
are relatively similar in a horizontal direction. Air masses form in air mass source regions where
winds are light or nonexistent. This allows air to stagnate for a long period of time, thus forming
an air mass. Given this, air mass weather characteristics are largely determined by the surface over
which they develop. Air masses can form over land or water, generally falling into (5) categories
which include: Continental polar (cP), Maritime polar (mP), Continental tropical (cT), Maritime
tropical (mT) and Continental artic (cA). While air masses can move, otherwise ... Show more

social psychology, where the participants would conform to the behaviour of others in an

Furthermore, there is a high degree of control ensuring that a cause effect relationship can be
recognised between variables. However, the use of the laboratory experiment can be criticised
for producing results that lack in ecological validity. This is because the research took place in
an artificial and controlled environment which didn t produce results that would be reflective to
other real life situations of conformity. There are also issues regarding this study as the study
was only carried out with male students who all belonged to the same aged group as a result the
sample was gender bias and therefore the results cannot be generalised for females or older groups
of people. The study hence lacks population validity. In addition, there are ethical issues regarding
the study as the participants were deceived about the purpose of the experiment and it is possible

Prion Disease Research Paper
Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease is a rare neurodegenerative disorder that is caused by a unique
infectious agent called prion. It is neither a virus or bacteria and is not even a living organism
but purely a protein that infects the brain causing neuro degradation and eventually death. CJD is
the human disorder from a family of prion diseases which have also been found in animals such
as sheep called Scrapie Disease, cattle known as Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis, and deer named
Chronic Wasting Disease (Anderson, Salm, Allen, 2016, p.356). Researchers found that this prion
disease is caused by a misfolding of a normal prion related protein, PrPc. These normal proteins are

Chivalry In Sir Gawain And The Green Knight, And Thomas...
Knights often had a certain chivalry code that they had to follow, in (Sir Gawain and the Green
Knight) and (Morte D Arthur) by Sir Thomas Malory their are examples of chivalry. Knights often
had a certain code they had to follow usually relating to religion, moral, and social code. This
system kept the knights usually under strict order. The knights had many expectations for following
this certain code, and many of them took it seriously. In (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) and
(Morte D Arthur) there s three main points that knights must follow for their chivalry code,
religion, moral, and protecting women.
The first example of the chivalry code is in (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) where the knight
has to follow religion. These knights often had a very good rep for the things they followed. For
they were very strict when it came to most things, religion being one of the top things they
always followed. Gawain the knight gets put into a situation where he is tested by religion.
While Gawain is staying at the castle the Lord s wife comes to seduce him. She fails for a few
nights, but eventually the Knight gives in to his moral code and does things he shouldn t have

could not be killed by any cunning of hand. (181: 387 388) This is explaining how the knight has

Analysis Of Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
The transformation from an innocent girl to a grown woman could be extremely tremendous. In the
short story, Marigolds, by Eugenia Collier, shows how much Lizabeth has mature. As she is
maturing, she is starting to have the realization of the real world and the meaning of compassion.
At the time, the Great Depressionoccur and the marketing crash. The Great Depression affected
families and the world itself. Based on the short story, Marigolds by Eugenia Collier, shows that
one cannot have both compassion and innocence at once from the character development of
Lizabeth. Realizing what you have done, but not knowing what exactly. Children could do the
cruelest things, and not realize the harm that they re putting others in. In the short story,
Lizabeth isn t thinking before her actions that actually is causing damage for Miss Lottie. Joey
and Lizabeth is near MIss Lottie s home, but then Zing Joey sent a pebble into the blossoms, and
another marigold was beheaded (Collier, pg. 27). Lizabeth is clueless to her surrounding of the
world that she was living in causing her to make terrible decision that was actually causing harm
for others. Even though, Lizabeth thought it was all for fun and a joke, Miss Lottie did not think
it was, making Lizabeth feel ashamed. She is feeling guilty of what she has down and starting to
realize her mistakes. Innocence is one thing, but maturity is another that you go through. In the
short story, Lizabeth was starting to have the realization of her surrounding. She noticed Miss
Lottie and called her out, M miss Lottie! I scrambled to my feel and just stood there and stared at
her, and that was the moment when childhood faded and womanhood began (Collier, pg. 30).
Lizabeth notice the sad face; weary eyes of Miss Lottie. Se realize that the witch isn t a witch, but
is an old lady that is trying to make the best of the current situation of the world. As she stare at
Miss Lottie s face, she realize of how much regret she has and began to mature into this grown
woman. A girl with innocence mature into this grown woman has changed her whole realization of
the world that she is living.

with other factors the Old Worlds industry rivalry is very high. In contrast the industry rivalry is

However, buyers in the Old World have equally high power as those in the New World because of
the extensive amount of different producers in the Old World. All of these comparable elements
affect the industry attractiveness in different ways. However, I feel that when comparing both
worlds, the industry attractiveness is almost the same. The industry attractiveness for wine
production is moderate. The wine industry has been affected by the various governments
throughout its history. They governments have regulated bottling and packaging as well as the
distribution systems. The industry has also shifted with the amount of education offered to
consumers about wine. This has led to some firms just reaping the benefits of those who are
promoting general industry awareness. A main reason this industry would be attractive is
because consumers must first try the product in order to determine if they like it or not.
Consumers also tend to be brand loyal if they are satisfied with a certain type of wine and will
go to great measures in order to repurchase. There are also many consumers who are uneducated
about wine and mainly purchase on price. Price in the wine industry can be very effective in
relaying perceived quality. The wine industry is attractive also if one firm owns their own
vineyard because the life of the vineyard is extremely long and will be relatively constant for a
producer.

No doubt that england had some hard times back in the middle age, lack of knowledge such as

one of the most powerful institution of the medieval period. Kings, queens and other leaders got
majority of their power from their alliances and protection of the Church. Peasants (lowest level

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Pyrite
Iron disulfide (FeS2) is the chemical formula for the mineral pyrite. This mineral has long been
described and prevalent in modern and ancient history. Pyrite s name originates from the Greek
for fire, which is pyr . The Roman author Pliny the Elder described a stone which is thought to be
pyrite. He described a stone used for grindstone, which would readily fire sparks or sulfur. He also
commented on the heft, its resemblance to brass or copper, and its porosity. A Greek physician
called pyritean ore of copper, due to the brassy look, but also commented on the sparks the mineral
gave. Many of the early descriptions of pyrite included similar easily confused minerals such as
chalcopyrite, marcasite, and pyrrhotite. (Dana, 1982)
The yellow color and metallic luster of pyrite lead many people to misidentify the mineral as
gold. This confusion gives rise to pyrite s nickname of fool s gold , however, there are many
physical differences between pyrite and gold. For instance, they differ in crystal form, density, and
hardness. Native gold forms in distinct nuggets, is much denser and has a lower hardness than
pyrite.
Pyrite is distinguished based on its metallic luster and pale brass yellow color, which can tarnish

gene correction in sperms and oocytes for the inhibition of onset of inherited disorder. The first
time, germ line genome editing in human by CRISPR/Cas9 system , was carried out to correct
mutation of HBB (Beta globin) gene in zygote of ОІ thalassemia patients by homologous DNA
recombination (HDR) [80, 81]. Embryonic genome editing utilized in the treatment of such
monogenic diseases prior to birth is a rational use of embryonic genome editing in germ line cells.

Because PGD usually is carried out by gametes prepared from parents. But parents who is
confirmed by PGD to have a high risk of transmition of inherited genetic mutation to their children
and want to have their own children, their gametes can be edited directly by Crisper/cas9 to create
healthy children.Nowdays germ line genome editing by programmable nuclease such as Crisper
/cas9 is the most useful tool to treat genetic diseases with high risk of inheritance mutation
transmition.
Unresolved ethical problems still exist and are the main reason for delay onset of clinical trials in
this field. Large animal models can be utilized for a variety of monogenic diseases, particularly
monogenic neurological disorders like HD and Duchene muscular dystrophy) DMD (. Specificity,
efficacy, and side effects of germ line genome editing technology should be assessed by animal
models before entering clinical trials.
Generating mammalian models of neurodegenerative diseases using CRISPR/Cas9
Cas9 has been well studied. It belongs to the class II CRISPR/Cas system which is the main protein
involved in small interfering CRISPR RNA (crRNA). CRISPR RNA often leads to the silencing of
invader viruses and plasmids [72, 85]. Several in vitro surveys have shown that Cas9 is guided by
gRNA composed of chimeric RNA. Chimeric RNA is composed of crRNA and tracrRNA. They are

Boston Marathon Bombing Analysis
The bombing of the Boston Marathon is one of the least deadly terrorist attacks against our
county, but has brought to light many lessons that need to be learned. The Boston Marathon
Bombing took place on April 15, 2013 at 1449 hours. Two men planted bombs near the finish line
of the event which killed three spectators and wounded 260 others. The bombs were pressure
cooker bombs packed with shrapnel and other materials hidden in backpacks that were maliciously
placed amidst the crowd (History.com Staff, 2014). Technology that was involved was the Alpha
Medical Tent which was located in Copley Square just beyond the finish line. This tent had
enhanced medical capabilities to help to provide relief to marathon runners after race limiting the
burden on local hospitals, and is staffed by medical professional who volunteer their time to support
race. With this Tent in place it already had sixteen ambulances staged in the event it could not
medically care for runners. After the bomb blast a Boston Area Medical Alert was requested. This
request got an additional seventy three ambulances, some from private companies, and were staged
within minutes to start providing support. Boston EMS triaged patients around blast area then
transported the most critical patients to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ancient Greece
Ancient Greece society is very similar to the modern day society because it both did one common
thing which is the essence of the culture remained same throughout the centuries even though
technology, fashion and Western influence have brought some changes to it. Some things that made
their culture and customs so rich were the art, architecture such as sculptures by famous artists,
paintings and infrastructure. Greeks were very advanced in sports and art which made their daily
life more interesting and meaningful. Greek enjoyed rich food and mixed music and dance as part
of their meal. One of the most important things about Greek culture is their religion such as gods

Greeks are also very religious. The ancient Greeks had many gods and each one to symbolize a
different thing. Most of the gods controlled natural things like the water, earth, fire, wind, and

would pray to those gods daily and often sacrificed animals like goats and lambs for their favours.
They would go to the temples for special occasions or just to pray and honour their gods. Ancient
Greece, culture and customs basically, still remain same. However, with the advancement of
technology, influence of western influence and political changes Greece has changed some of its

The For Good Quality Cement
The clinker coming out of the kiln is at temperatures of around 1400oC. For good quality cement,
this temperature has to be brought down to around 200oC in a limited period of time. Thus it is
brought in contact with a cross circulation heat exchanging cooler.
The heat of the incoming clinker is recuperated in the secondary air at an efficiency which usually
lies within 65% to 70
The clinker cooler has the following main functions:
1.Recuperate the clinker heat by heating up the combustion air (secondary and tertiary air)
2.Maintain a minimum cooling velocity in order to avoid unfavorable mineralogical clinker phases
and crystal size
3.Facilitate clinker handling and storage.
Three groups of coolers can be defined according to their working principle:
A.On a grate cooler the clinker forms a bed which is transported along the grate by different
mechanisms. The cooling air is blown from below the grate by fans and passes through the
clinker bed in cross current. Only a Dart of this air can be used as combustion air, the rest of it has
to be dedusted and wasted, unless it can be used for another purpose (e.g. raw material or coal
drying, fuel oil preheating, heating of buildings, warm water preparation, etc.).
B.The operating principle of a tube cooler is quite similar to the one of a rotary kiln: the material
and the cooling air are led in counter current through one or more slightly inclined rotating tubes.
Special lifters are installed which increase the active heat

Advantages Of Spanish Colonization In The Philippines
The Philippine were discovered in 1521 by the Spanish. It s the third largest nation that speaks
English in the world. The country is divided into three main areas: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
It has 17 regions, 122 cities, and 42,025 barangays. The Philippines were colonized by three
countries Spain, America, and Japan. America colonized the Philippines, because they wanted to
become an empire, and to expand more. They wanted to expand to have more lands, power,
resources, more production, and especially more money. Also the USA didn t want lose the

Reflection Of Storycorp Interview
Introduction
This paper will discuss the recent events that have happened in this past week. The results of the
personality and values test. How the StoryCorp interview got me closer to my mother. What I
learned about the photographic work field in my informational interview. The online programs I
plan to use for my 21 day APP project. How I hope this class will help my growth as a person.
Summary of Key Findings from Interest, Skills, Values and Personality Surveys I generally try to
be kind to others and I greatly enjoy making people laugh. I would like to incorporate humor into
my Capstone Project and show the beauty of nature. I want my pictures to make people happy
whether it is by laughing or admiring nature. I believe this project will go well with my personality.
StoryCorps Interview Reflection Karen, my mother, and I talked about family and religion. My
mother is a family based woman, she has become more religious in her age. I asked her what her
favorite memories of me were and she brought up events so far in the past I had forgotten them. It
was nice to reminisce about events long past and talk about Heaven. We do not normally talk about
Heaven so it was nice to hear her thoughts about it.
Informational Interview Results The Capstone Project I have chosen does not need a higher
education to pursue after. Mr. Dunahee explained that the degree he went in for was not for
photography. He had ended up in this work field after a friend paid him to do his wedding shots.
Mr. Dunahee told me this after we had finished our interview, I was unsure whether to add it in or
not.
Photography is a constantly adapting in order to keep up with all the new technology made
available. Why pay for a photographer when your phone can handle the job? While I greatly
admire the field I do not think it would be a suitable career choice for me. After the interview, Mr.
Dunahee encouraged me to join his class to learn more about photography face to face. While the
offer is tempting, I fear I do not have time to join his class due to my demanding work schedule.
21 Day APP Project Since my work schedule is very hectic I have chosen to take online class to
learn more about photography. I did have a hard time narrowing

Themes In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner tells a peculiar tale about a mariner and his 200 crewmate who
started a voyage to the equator. Alone, alone, all, all alone, Alone on a wide sea! And never a
saint took pity on My soul in agony. This quote relates to the Ancient Mariner when he was
isolated on the ocean while his crew was laying dead on the ship. The Rime of the Ancient Mariner
by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, is a collection of Lyrical Ballads that tells a story of a mariner and
his crew who went on a journey but ended getting forced to change their destination by a strong
storm. They became isolated and trapped without a way out until an Albatrosscame and a path was
opened for them. As the story progresses the Ancient Mariner and his crew committed a crime
against nature when the Ancient mariner killed the Albatrossthe bird of good omen and his crew
justified his action. As a result of their actions, the Ancient Mariner and his crew were faced with an
unprecedented consequence. Nature will seek vengeance against the Ancient Mariner and his crew
for killing the Albatross. The Ancient mariner and his crew faced the consequences of their crime
which left the Ancient Mariner in a life in death state and his crewmate dead. Three themes present
in the poem was isolation and crime against nature and redemption.
And through the drifts, the snowy clifts Did send a dismal sheen: Nor shapes of men nor beasts
we ken The ice was all between . This quote signifies Isolation in

Mystical Experience, By Chris Frith
The human brain is the common thread which ties these selections of literature together. Our mind
controls our every action, thought, and dream, but do we shape our mind or does our mind shape
us? We are one and the same, our mind and ourselves, but who has more control our conscious mind
or our subconscious mindand how do we know what we know? in the required texts, Mystical
Experience, Numinous, and Making Up the Mind we discover unique perspectives on
understanding the unknown parts of the complex humanpsyche with the information they provide.
I found the PDF Mystical Experience very interesting, especially the statement mystics
unconsciously merely attribute a doctrinal content to ordinary experiences. At first, I didn t
understand the meaning of this statement but then after I let this idea sink in I realized how
powerful this was to me. Every aspect of our lives can be analyzed as reactions or messages from a
higher being, one could argue that my dance team practice tonight from nine to midnight was
cancelled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this made me question if I really have ever had any meaningful connection with God in my
youth or if it was just my brain responding to my desire to have a meaningful connection with God.
And if it this the case that my brain has just provided me with the right levels of endorphins to
quench my subconscious desires then what has been real emotion and what hasn t been. but you
could counter this by argentine that everything we feel is based off the brain releasing
endorphins, therefore, is it even a possibility to feel a meaningful connection to a higher power if
we already have complete control over everything we do and do not

Ezra Pound Research Paper
The Young Genius: Ezra Pound s influenced poetry on Benito Mussolini and the Fascist movement,
time of his stay in St. Elizabeth s Hospital and the concept of Imagism.
If a nation s literature declines, the nation atrophies and decays. (Ezra Pound Quotes) Ezra Pound
was not a man of many words, but he certainly did have a knack for turning simple words into
something beautiful. Pounds poetry was influenced by his fascination with Benito Mussolini and the
Fascist movement, the time of his stay in St. Elizabeth s Hospital and the concept of Imagism.
It is safe to say that Ezra Pound did not live a boring life growing up. He was born on October 30,
1885 in Hailey, Idaho. However, he was brought up in Wyncote, Philadelphia. At the small... Show

Canto 13
If a man have not order within him
He cannot spread order about him;
And if a man have not order within him
His family will not act with due order;
And if the prince have not order within him
He cannot put order in his dominions. (Lines 46 51)
In the previous excerpt of Canto 13, the three literacy terms refrain; anaphora and a hint of
didactic poetry are involved. The word and phrase order appear in every line of the excerpt. It is
repeated to not only get the meaning across, but to make a significant indent in the readers mind
while reading the poem. The hint of didactic poetry is shown in this poem, I believe, because
Pound is telling the reader without order you cannot do a few things such as spread order about
him, family will not act, and one cannot put order in his dominions. In a way, that is teaching the
pros of order.
From this poem I can infer that Ezra Pound is stating that whether or not he is ruled by an
imperialistic power: everyday is going to be the same, for everybody. The last line Imperial power
is? And to us what is it? means that no matter government is enforced, their everyday life is not
going to change.
Cantos XLIX: For The Seven Lakes
Sun up; work
Sundown; to rest
Dig well and drink of the water
Dig field; eat of the grain
Imperial power is? And to us what is it?
The fourth; the dimension of stillness.
And the power over wild beasts. (Lines 42 48)

Liberal Democracies Vs. Liberal Democracy Essay
Liberal democracies, are defined as the system in which governmental body operate under the
principle of individual rights and work to protect them regardless of religion, sect, ethnicity etc.
Liberal democracies are thought to be secular in nature and generally do not account for religions or
ethnicities rather they promote a certain nationalistic perspective throughout the state. Laws are
made through majority vote in the parliament and are meant to be logical in nature rather than
derived from sources like religion, culture, traditions etc. However, in some parts of the world such
as Middle East, people value their sectarian or ethnic identities more than nationalistic values. So a
debate emerges around the openness of democratic system to religion. Although Ethnocracy offers
short term solution for some countries like Syria, yet the system should be based on liberal
democracythat work on the principle of State nationthat protects core values of democracy and
account for religions as well.
Ethnocracy is a system that only allows political parties based on ethnic, religion or sectarian
identities to participate in the elections and individual choices are ignored. This system is
applicable in some countries like Lebanon where after widespread conflict between different
groups, it has been authorized that three parties based on Christians, Sunni Muslims and Shia
Muslims can only participate in elections and people have to tie with any of these groups. There

The liver is involved in many functions of the body which are important for survival. It is the
main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins,
storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products
such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid
hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin
metabolism. The heme component of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes.
It is then bound to albumin and transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl
diphosphate glucoronyl transferase converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can
be excreted into the intestines. If the hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of
HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds
up, the skin turn to a yellowish color called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of
hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011).
There are two phases of hepatitis C; acute and chronic. After exposure of HCV, 85 90% of both
types of hepatitis are usually asymptomatic but symptoms can occur during the acute phase
following a 2 12 week incubation period. In cases of acute hepatitis, symptoms consist of fatigue,

The first is the Alarm stage this is when the body initiate the body s fight or flight response, this
releases adrenaline and cortisol. During this phase your pulse rate is elevate, increasing blood flow
to the brain, prepares the muskoskeletal system to fight or run. The second phase is the resistance
stage, this is when the body s stress level has been reduced and the body commences to repair
damaged tissues, conversely in this stage we are easily more acceptable to injuries, and emotional
weaknesses. The third stage is the exhaustion stage, the body no longer has the ability to fight the
stress, and this is the point when the body is in stress overload. According to Wade Tavris, (2017)
persistent stress depletes the body of energy, thereby increasing vulnerability to physical problems
and illness. (p. 396).
It has also been observed that our biological responses are short, these adaptive responses assit our
bodies in responding to stress. According to Wade Tavris, (2017) the hypothalmus initiates the fight
or flight response, releasing epinephren and norepinephren. The hypothalmus also activates the
adrenal glands to release cortisol.
Extended activation of the stress response can jeopardize our body s homeostasis, resulting in
dysregulation as well as a change in cortisol levels. Cortisol s has a direct influence on our immune

  • 2. Substantive Scientific Testimony How a Federal Court Decides On the Admissibility of Scientific Testimony Both substantive law and procedural law application play a part in establishing whether a scientific testimony will be allowed in a federal court. The substantive law establishes whether the scientific theory in question is connected with a case in an important and acceptable way. On the other hand, the procedural law determines whether a scientific testimony has enough basis for it to be deemed useful in establishing factual and legal issues in a court case. Federal courts apply the substantive laws of the states that they are in. Since substantive laws vary from state to state, the admissibility of scientific testimony about substantive law also depends on that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Hodgson and Dearborn, they pointed out that though human evidence of an association between mycotoxins and human health is anecdotal and based on case reports and series, the standards generally regarded as evidence in environmental medicine are met, including controlled studies in animals, the development of animal models with diseases that parallel the human experience, and studies of the mycotoxins at subcellular levels (Hodgson and Dear born, 2002 and references therein). There is a need for physical examinations and diagnostic as environmental related. For example, S. chartarum produces tricothecene mycotoxins that produce a deadly cytotoxic syndrome by shutting down protein synthesis when concentrated. They are unique among biological toxins relative to chemical toxins. Trichothecene mycotoxins associated with poorly ventilated buildings and contaminated buildings by ELISA assays. However, pulmonary hemorrhagic and hemosiderosis occurred in a hospital nursery and investigator concluded it was due to heavy mold growth in the building. Several years later, investigator retracted and reviewed of this case because of quality of evidence insufficient to conclude an association. A growing body of evidence supports that S. charatrum may be the cause of epidemic and isolated case of pulmonary hemorrhage and hemosiderosis in infant lungs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The New England Area And The Chesapeake Area The English were early settlers in America. Two of their areas of settlement were the New England area and the Chesapeake area. Even though these two places were settled by the same country, both of their societies were very different. The main reasons for their differences were their motives for colonization, slavery, and religion. The main motive of New England was to serve God, and to be a City upon a hill as said by John Winthrop in the Mayflower Compact, document A, We must consider that we shall be as a city upon a hill. They eyes of all people are upon us. Document D also states that they want to share equal planting ground, and that everyone in the colony will have a home. Document B shows that the colony was structured more towards family life. Quotes like We intend by God s grace... to produce some Godly and faithful minister with whom we purpose to join in church covenant to walk in all the ways of Christ, tell you exactly why they are colonizing. Document E says that they intend to not be selfish, but to put others first to that they can avoid the sin of oppression. New England in general was very religious, and they, because of that, tended to be more friendly to each other and also to the Indians than those living in Chesapeake did. The main motive of the Chesapeake area was to make money and to own land in the new world. This is shown by how their colonies starved to death in the beginning. When they arrived in America they thought that there would be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of The Movie Copycat Analysis of Copycat (1995) In the movie Copycat from 1995 there is a character named Helen Hudson (Sigourney Weaver) who is a psychiatrist that studies the behavior of serial killers. At the beginning of the film she is giving a lecture at the University of San Francisco and at the end of the lecture, Daryll Lee Cullum (Harry Connick, Jr.) follows Helen into the restroom and tries to hang her, but fails and gets locked up in prison. Thirteen months later, Helen suffers from panic attacks and agoraphobia which have resulted from her Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. She has been housebound for months now and has a homosexual assistant named Andy (John Rothman). Darryl Lee is in contact with William McNamara, another psychopath who wants to follow in Darryl Lee s footsteps and become famous. So Darryl Lee tells William to continue his work of killing Helen. He does this by copying other serial killer signatures such as John Wayne Gacy, the Boston strangler, and Son of Sam etc. Three murders have occurred and Helen notices through newspapers that each murder seems to be done by one person. Therefore, she calls the police to leave an anonymous tip and they mock her and brush her off as a prank call. However, Officer M.J. Monaham (Holly Hunter) becomes curious and starts to think that Helen would be able to add to the investigation. So she obtains the case files and wants to get Helen s opinion on the case. At first Helen is reluctant to help because as M.J. Monaham starts to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, these methods contrast in different important aspects. According to Denscombe, M., (2010), even though, both quantitative and qualitative research use the same methods to collect the information, interviews, surveys, observations, as primary data, and documents, as a secondary data; how the results are put and collected and how the method is conducted will determine the final result, whether to get qualitative or quantitative data. • 6. Types Of An Equilibrium System STSE: Equilibrium Systems 1. Choose a process which uses an equilibrium system. How calcium oxalate kidney stones form in a human body? Calcium oxalate stones are the most common type of kidney stones to form. They are solid masses that form within the kidney because of a great amount of oxalate in one s urine and too little liquid. Oxalate is found in foods, and when the body is done processing the nutrients it requires from digestion, waste products travel to the kidneys. The kidneys make urine which removes these waste products, however if there are too many waste products present in too little liquid, there are crystals that form. Crystals will then stick together to form a kidney stone which can t get passed through and out of the body as urine. Crystals that are specific to kidney stones are formed of oxalate which sticks to calcium also found in the kidneys. The formation of calcium oxalate kidney stones is an equilibrium system. 2. Write the balanced equation for the system. CaC2O4 (s) ( removed HTML ) Ca2+(aq) + C2O42 (aq) The forward reaction for this reversible reaction shows calcium oxalate breaking down into calcium and oxalate ions. The reverse reaction is where calcium and oxalate ions form calcium oxalate kidney stones. 3. Explain the shifts that occur in this equilibrium using Le Chatelier s Principle. In terms of Le Chatelier s Principle, there are changes in concentration, temperature, volume and pressure that can occur to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, despite several efforts, unfortunately we cannot have a lot of expectations from start ups industry, in particular high tech ones, because of the lack, all over Europe and not only in Italy, of an effective venture capital market that constitutes, so far, the essential fuel for this sector. While in USA social venturists as well as venture capitalists are very active, in Italy too little attention is given to social innovation, which contrarily is arousing into the other communitarian countries more and more interest and that recently the EU has promoted with its Social Business Initiative . In particular, the just mentioned strategy by European Union aims to set up all those measures useful to fight poverty and social exclusions, and meanwhile, through SBI, the Brussels based organism wants to strengthen growth, employment and competitiveness, creating simultaneously a more inclusive society. Referring to this initiative, it comes to light that social enterprises and, more generally, all the actors involved in the social environment have a fundamental role to play. Going deeply into their tasks, they should apply business strategies to tackle important social goals such as ameliorate society or protecting the environment. • 8. Voltaire s View Of Voltaire Voltaire was an enlightenment provider who wrote many play and books. He was a famous writer, who made a lot of money and he wanted money. So everything he accomplished, he did because he thought people are going to buy for him to be rich. One of his most famous is the story of Candide in which he wrote to be entertained. The book is a satire in which Voltairein some way criticizes the institutions, and the people. Although Voltaire s societies had many advances, this made him criticize different elements of his societies. In the 1700s the Europeans had so many advances. They had conquered territories around the world. They were wealthy and their societies had advanced intellectually. By the 1700s, the Europeans thought they are at the top and they can get any better than this. This is what makes Voltaire criticize part of Europeans. Voltaire did satirize different institutions for instance, other philosophers, many religious people, protestant pastors, and minority groups. He criticizes the church when the old woman begun saying you must know that I am the daughter of pope Urban X and of the princess of Palestrina (In chapter 11) . Voltaire explains that there is no pope named Urban X and he uses this opportunity to condemn the church. He means that the Catholic Church is exceedingly corrupt and it shouldn t be an institution. He also points out that the church members are indeed silly even though they are taking vows. Voltaire doesn t understand why people attend this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, we selected two mature companies and two companies that are in development stage. Our choices mainly base on the companies pipeline because biotechnology companies lives or dies depending on their pipeline, level of expertise and network of partners/distributors they have. For mature companies, we looked at their financial strength, the source of financing they have to fund their research and development, as well as their products breadth in the pipeline. We prefer mature companies with dominating market shares and are focusing on common diseases, cancer or heart diseases. For that reason, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Summary Of 1 And 2 Kings By Jeremiah The books of 1 and 2 Kings were written by Jeremiah who lived around 627 BC. The books were written with messages of repentance, but these messages were not received well as his hometown persecuted him. Kings was written to the Israelites trying to explain their fate. The book is more of a warning because of the peoples abandonment of their faith, or apostasy. Jeremiah wants the people to be restored to the days when David ruled Israel. The Old Testament in general is filled with prophecy and preparation for the coming of Jesus. The book of 1 Kings gives this message in the form of lessons, metaphors and other interpretations. In this passage Elijah went into a cave to take shelter from the harsh weather. Elijah had just walked forty days and forty nights to the mountain of Horeb or the mountain of God. He took this journey because he was fleeing Jezebel who was trying to have Elijah murdered because of his faith. While in the cave Elijah heard the Lord speaking to him. The Lord told Elijah to walk out of the cave after Elijah presented his worries to God. Elijah quickly noticed that he could not hear the Lord in the wind or earthquake or fire. Rather, Elijah could hear the Lord as a whispering sound. Elijah... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of this use of metaphor can be seen in verse 11 of chapter 19 in 1 Kings, Then the LORD said: Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD (1 Kings 19:11). To stand before the LORD means, not literally to stand, but to lessen yourself in the presence of God. This metaphor means to serve the Lord, or being a servant of God. Standing before God is being vulnerable, honest and open, letting God work in you. This means allowing God in your life. For Elijah this was alluding to him returning to Damascus and appointing new kings of Israel and Aram. • 11. Sugar Beets And Its Effects On The United States Sugar beets are grown throughout the world. Mostly where there are cooler temperatures and climates. Sugar beets are grown in countries like China, United States, Russia, and Japan. Russia is the leading producer of sugar beets with the United States trailing in third. Some of the states in the United States that grow sugar beets are Nebraska, California, Colorado, Minnesota, and Wyoming. Some small farmers have figured out that you can also grow sugar beets in some warmer climates as well. Farmers have also figured out that sugar beets attract a lot of deer and now they are looking at feeding sugar beets to livestock. Some sheep and cattle ranchers graze their sheep and cattle on their sugar beetcrop. The cattle will eat the leafy tops of the beets. The process aims to identify unique characteristics about the offender through examining the characteristics of the offence and gathering information about the victim (Farrington, 2007) as well as using information gained from previous similar offences before gradually building up an offender profile. The information gained from the interviews was paired with information from the FBI s Behavioural Science Unit as well as examinations of forensic evidence, nature of attacks and the crime scene itself. The crime is then put into a classification system of being either organised or disorganised by building a set of characteristics likely to be identified in each category in order to distinguish the type of criminal that may have committed the offence. For a criminal to be considered organised this would mean that evidence had been found that suggested the offender had carefully planned out the offence before it had taken place, left very few clues and had carried out the crime with a stranger as the victim. It is also inferred that an organised criminal would have an above average IQ, be sexually and socially competent and in a highly skilled occupation. Whereas a disorganised offender would display the opposite characteristics and would typically be found to leave clues, have a below average IQ, be sexually and socially incompetent etc. Once the profile of the criminal has been established, investigative suggestions are then made based on the profile (Douglas et al, 1992). This transition saw the acceptance of new philosophies that were rampant throughout most of Europe (Yawney 2). The Age of Enlightenment, as it has come to be known, brought upon changes within the realms of economic, social, and religious affairs. However, amidst any form of radical change come those who do not attest to it. In his fable, The Green Bird, Venetian dramatist Carlo Gozziincorporates subject matter that attacks not only the realism seen in Carlo Goldonis theatre but also the thought of modern Enlightenment ideology. The first half of the Age of Enlightenment saw Italy more as a spectator as opposed to an active participant within the ever changing affairs of Europe. Italy could not yet incorporate the growing ideology of the Enlightenment due to the Roman Catholic Church that governed the land. However, with the decline of that absolute ecclesiastical authority near the latter half of the eighteenth century, Italy gradually delved into enlightenment thought, and slowly became part of the movement that was dominating Europe. The continuance of scientific research ensued, which led to studies in history and archaeological science. Recognition of social conditions throughout Italy influenced the study of economics and socio political issues. These new philosophies proved to be the main concerns within the intellectual community as the eighteenth century progressed. (Yawney 1,3 4) Italy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The theme is the mystery of deathand the correspondence of the life of the moth with the true nature of life. The images created by Woolf are presented that appeal to the eye. As described here, Watching him, it seemed as if a fibre, very thin and pure, of the enormous energy of the world had been thrust into his frail and diminutive body (426 427). This sentence shows Woolfs attitude starting to change towards the moth. In the beginning of the essay, Woolf does not show the interest like she does towards the end of the essay. When the moth starts to go through death the tone changes dramatically and Woolf is a state of wonder and awe for the moth. When the moth is dying Woolf uses lengthier sentences to bring out the importance of the situation: One could only watch the extraordinary efforts made by those tiny legs against an oncoming doom which could, had it chosen, have submerged an entire city, not merely a city, but masses of human beings; nothing, I knew, had any chance against death. (428) The lengthier sentences also help to explain the wonder and awe that Woolf expresses towards the moth. The wonder and awe that she expressed was due to the power and inevitability of the death. Woolf was in awe that death is inevitable and that she could not do anything about it. The next stylistic device is personification. Essay on The Science of Rocks 1.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), there are two types of igneous rocks extrusive and intrusive and the primary difference between the two types of igneous rocks is that the rocks are formed in two separate locations: within the Earth s crust and on the Earth s surface (35). Extrusive igneous rocks form when magma rises all the way through the crust to erupt onto Earth s surface (35). Since the crystals do not have much time to grow, extrusive sedimentary rocks, also commonly known as volcanic rocks, have fine grained textures, with crystals too small to be seen with the naked eye (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). Since basalt is a mafic rock, it tends to have a dark green to black, dark color, while granite tends to have a clear, white, and pink light color (Thompson Turk, 2011, 37). Additionally, because basalt is an extrusive igneous rock, it has a very fine grained texture, meaning that the crystals are nearly impossible to see (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). On the other hand, granite is an intrusive igneous rock, meaning that it has a medium or coarse grained texture, where the mineral grains and crystals are easily visible (Thompson Turk, 2011, 36). 3.According to Thompson and Turk (2011), sedimentary rocks are broadly divided into four categories: clastic, organic, chemical, and bioclastic rocks. Clastic sedimentary rock is composed of particles of weathered rocks, such as sand grains and pebbles (also known as clasts), which have been transported, deposited, and lithified (38). Clastic rocks, such as shale, siltstone, and sandstone, are composed of fragments of older rocks: clay, silt, and sand (38). In the short story, Lizabeth isn t thinking before her actions that actually is causing damage for Miss Lottie. Joey and Lizabeth is near MIss Lottie s home, but then Zing Joey sent a pebble into the blossoms, and another marigold was beheaded (Collier, pg. 27). Lizabeth is clueless to her surrounding of the world that she was living in causing her to make terrible decision that was actually causing harm for others. Even though, Lizabeth thought it was all for fun and a joke, Miss Lottie did not think it was, making Lizabeth feel ashamed. She is feeling guilty of what she has down and starting to realize her mistakes. Innocence is one thing, but maturity is another that you go through. In the short story, Lizabeth was starting to have the realization of her surrounding. She noticed Miss Lottie and called her out, M miss Lottie! I scrambled to my feel and just stood there and stared at her, and that was the moment when childhood faded and womanhood began (Collier, pg. 30). Lizabeth notice the sad face; weary eyes of Miss Lottie. Se realize that the witch isn t a witch, but is an old lady that is trying to make the best of the current situation of the world. As she stare at Miss Lottie s face, she realize of how much regret she has and began to mature into this grown woman. • 33. Robert Mondavi and the Wine Industry Essay Robert Mondavi and the Wine Industry 1. The industry structure in the Old World is significantly different than the New World. First, the Old World has a very low concentration ratio, while the diversity of competitors is high. Along with other factors the Old Worlds industry rivalry is very high. In contrast the industry rivalry is relatively low because of the extremely high concentration ratio and the low diversity of competitors. The New World is made up of large publicly held firms in comparison to the small private owned vineyards in the Old World that historically have produced for their own consumption. Another difference is between the suppliers in both industries. The suppliers in the Old World are one in the same with the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, buyers in the Old World have equally high power as those in the New World because of the extensive amount of different producers in the Old World. All of these comparable elements affect the industry attractiveness in different ways. However, I feel that when comparing both worlds, the industry attractiveness is almost the same. The industry attractiveness for wine production is moderate. The wine industry has been affected by the various governments throughout its history. They governments have regulated bottling and packaging as well as the distribution systems. The industry has also shifted with the amount of education offered to consumers about wine. This has led to some firms just reaping the benefits of those who are promoting general industry awareness. A main reason this industry would be attractive is because consumers must first try the product in order to determine if they like it or not. Consumers also tend to be brand loyal if they are satisfied with a certain type of wine and will go to great measures in order to repurchase. There are also many consumers who are uneducated about wine and mainly purchase on price. Price in the wine industry can be very effective in relaying perceived quality. The wine industry is attractive also if one firm owns their own vineyard because the life of the vineyard is extremely long and will be relatively constant for a producer. 2. He described a stone used for grindstone, which would readily fire sparks or sulfur. He also commented on the heft, its resemblance to brass or copper, and its porosity. A Greek physician called pyritean ore of copper, due to the brassy look, but also commented on the sparks the mineral gave. (Dana, 1982) The yellow color and metallic luster of pyrite lead many people to misidentify the mineral as gold. This confusion gives rise to pyrite s nickname of fool s gold , however, there are many physical differences between pyrite and gold. For instance, they differ in crystal form, density, and hardness. Native gold forms in distinct nuggets, is much denser and has a lower hardness than pyrite. Pyrite is distinguished based on its metallic luster and pale brass yellow color, which can tarnish darker. For good quality cement, this temperature has to be brought down to around 200oC in a limited period of time. Thus it is brought in contact with a cross circulation heat exchanging cooler. The heat of the incoming clinker is recuperated in the secondary air at an efficiency which usually lies within 65% to 70 The clinker cooler has the following main functions: 1.Recuperate the clinker heat by heating up the combustion air (secondary and tertiary air) 2.Maintain a minimum cooling velocity in order to avoid unfavorable mineralogical clinker phases and crystal size 3.Facilitate clinker handling and storage. Three groups of coolers can be defined according to their working principle: A.On a grate cooler the clinker forms a bed which is transported along the grate by different mechanisms. The cooling air is blown from below the grate by fans and passes through the clinker bed in cross current. Only a Dart of this air can be used as combustion air, the rest of it has to be dedusted and wasted, unless it can be used for another purpose (e.g. raw material or coal drying, fuel oil preheating, heating of buildings, warm water preparation, etc.). The hint of didactic poetry is shown in this poem, I believe, because Pound is telling the reader without order you cannot do a few things such as spread order about him, family will not act, and one cannot put order in his dominions. In a way, that is teaching the pros of order. From this poem I can infer that Ezra Pound is stating that whether or not he is ruled by an imperialistic power: everyday is going to be the same, for everybody. The last line Imperial power is? And to us what is it? means that no matter government is enforced, their everyday life is not going to change. Cantos XLIX: For The Seven Lakes Sun up; work Sundown; to rest Dig well and drink of the water Dig field; eat of the grain Imperial power is? And to us what is it? The fourth; the dimension of stillness. And the power over wild beasts. (Lines 42 48) In this excerpt of a free versed

  • 54. Liberal Democracies Vs. Liberal Democracy Essay Liberal democracies, are defined as the system in which governmental body operate under the principle of individual rights and work to protect them regardless of religion, sect, ethnicity etc. Liberal democracies are thought to be secular in nature and generally do not account for religions or ethnicities rather they promote a certain nationalistic perspective throughout the state. Laws are made through majority vote in the parliament and are meant to be logical in nature rather than derived from sources like religion, culture, traditions etc. However, in some parts of the world such as Middle East, people value their sectarian or ethnic identities more than nationalistic values. So a debate emerges around the openness of democratic system to religion. Although Ethnocracy offers short term solution for some countries like Syria, yet the system should be based on liberal democracythat work on the principle of State nationthat protects core values of democracy and account for religions as well. Ethnocracy is a system that only allows political parties based on ethnic, religion or sectarian identities to participate in the elections and individual choices are ignored. This system is applicable in some countries like Lebanon where after widespread conflict between different groups, it has been authorized that three parties based on Christians, Sunni Muslims and Shia Muslims can only participate in elections and people have to tie with any of these groups. • 55. Hepatitis C (HCV) Hepatitis C (HCV), a single stranded RNA virus from the family Flaviviridae, now accounts for more disease and death that does human immunodeficiency virus HIV/AIDS. Approximately 3 million individuals within the United States are currently suffering from what was once and unknown and untreatable virus. Non A and non B hepatitis are two forms of the virus that were prevalent back in the 1970 s. It was commonly acquired via blood transfusion as well as through hemodialysis methods of renal failure patients (Klevens et al., 2012). Today, the most common means of transmission are through intravenous drug use, needle stick injuries in a health care setting, and transmission from mother to fetus during birth (Center for Disease Control and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The liver is involved in many functions of the body which are important for survival. It is the main filtering organ of the body and is involved in processes such a synthesis of plasma proteins, storage of glycogen for energy use as well as excretion, secretion and detoxification of products such as bilirubin, alcohol, cholesterol and drugs. Since the liver is the only organ to rid hemoglobin from the body, one of the most important functions it carries out is bilirubin metabolism. The heme component of hemoglobin is first converted to bilirubin by set of enzymes. It is then bound to albumin and transported to the liver hepatocytes where the enzyme uridyl diphosphate glucoronyl transferase converts bilirubin into water soluble conjugated form so it can be excreted into the intestines. If the hepatocytes within the liver are damage due to invasion of HCV, bilirubin will not be able to be excreted thus resulting in the buildup of bile. When bile builds up, the skin turn to a yellowish color called jaundice. This usually happens during the later stages of hepatitis (Sunheimer Graves, 2011). There are two phases of hepatitis C; acute and chronic. After exposure of HCV, 85 90% of both types of hepatitis are usually asymptomatic but symptoms can occur during the acute phase following a 2 12 week incubation period. In cases of acute hepatitis, symptoms consist of fatigue, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Narrative Reflection Paper 1 August 2003, at 0600 in As Sadiyah, Iraq. My unit Charlie Company, 2nd Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, was preparing for a logistical convoy to Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Al Mugadaiyah, Iraq that was 35 miles away. It was 110 degrees as we loaded the weapons, conducted radio checks, and prepared to leave our FOB we received an emergency call requesting assistance. As we came across a bridge that we crossed almost daily, there was a hole the size of a door on the right side, scorch marks from the explosion. When we pulled into the area of hostile contact, there was four High Mobility Multipurpose Military Vehicle (HMMWV). Laying on the ground outside one vehicle was a young Soldier, as I approached as the Medic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first is the Alarm stage this is when the body initiate the body s fight or flight response, this releases adrenaline and cortisol. During this phase your pulse rate is elevate, increasing blood flow to the brain, prepares the muskoskeletal system to fight or run. The second phase is the resistance stage, this is when the body s stress level has been reduced and the body commences to repair damaged tissues, conversely in this stage we are easily more acceptable to injuries, and emotional weaknesses. The third stage is the exhaustion stage, the body no longer has the ability to fight the stress, and this is the point when the body is in stress overload. According to Wade Tavris, (2017) persistent stress depletes the body of energy, thereby increasing vulnerability to physical problems and illness. (p. 396). It has also been observed that our biological responses are short, these adaptive responses assit our bodies in responding to stress. According to Wade Tavris, (2017) the hypothalmus initiates the fight or flight response, releasing epinephren and norepinephren. The hypothalmus also activates the adrenal glands to release cortisol. Extended activation of the stress response can jeopardize our body s homeostasis, resulting in dysregulation as well as a change in cortisol levels. Cortisol s has a direct influence on our immune system leading to chronic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
