Sectionalism
The period after the war of 1812 was the Era of Good Feeling which was interrupted by the issue of
slavery and tariffs dividing the area of sectionalism. In the sense that a strong nationalism emerged
into the Americans, however we have to take sectionalism and the event such as the panic of 1819 into
consideration. The main cause of nationalism during 1815 and 1825 was the fact that the United States
was becoming a much stronger nation there manufacturing the rapid northern industrialization of
America favored by government officials over the south as well as disputes over slavery and bank of
the US gave rise to sentiments of sectionalism while Andrew Jackson rise led to nationalism.

Nationalism had its moment but it didn t really contribute to greater or more important historical
events like sectionalism had. It was only because of the difference of opinions and arguing that made
people decide for themselves if it was wrong or right. These opinions led to changes in reform which
simply leads to static society. The events that transpired during era of good feeling was involve in a

Essay On Virgin Atlantic
Virgin Atlantic Airways, founded in 1984, has grown rapidly to become one of the UK s largest airline
carriers and now serves 31 destinations worldwide. Well known for pioneering many service
innovations and setting new standards for the airline industry, Virgin Atlantic continues to expand. But
despite their growth the airline still remains customer focused, with an emphasis on value for money,
unique offerings and high quality service.

Considering the fact that the airline industry is characterized by the presence of a few carriers and
many suppliers vying for business, it comes as no surprise that the power of the suppliers is low and
the airlines have the upper hand in their interactions with the suppliers. Further, even in cases such as
the supply of jet fuel, the carriers like Virgin Atlantic have a distinct advantage, as this fuel is
expensive and a premium product meaning that there are not too many buyers for it making Virgin
Atlantic a favored customer for the aviation fuel companies.

through hard work. We recognise that having a meaningful dialogue with our people is vital to our
culture and to the success of the organisation but it is really very hard to do. It s easy to think about
how a manager can have a conversation with a team member and how that could lead to improved
success for the individual or team. We can help our managers to develop the skills to have those
conversations in an effective, authentic and Virgin Atlantic way.
But it s also about having a dialogue

Courtroom Standards Analysis
Courtroom Standards Analysis Chris CJA/484 June 17, 2013 Courtroom Standards Analysis
Courtroom Personnel There are a number of individuals who make up the courtroom personnel. Each
individual whether it be the judge, bailiff, court reporter, courtroom clerk, prosecutor, defense counsel,
jury, defendant, or witness contribute to the shaping of legal law. The judge who presides over the trial
has the ultimate authority in the courtroom. The judge must see that the trail is conducted in an orderly
manner according to prescribed rules and laws covering the selection of the jury, the presentation of
evidence, the arguments of the lawyers, the instructions to the jury, and the rending of the verdict

All work group members influence and are influenced by the other members, and members have
different bases of power and areas of knowledge. Judges have formal authority and may direct actions
of the court and the attorneys. Prosecutors have superior case knowledge and have discretion about
what matters will go to trial. Defense attorneys are able to interview witnesses, obtain evidence
through discovery, and file pretrial motions. The four common goals of the members are doing justice;
maintaining group cohesion; disposing of the case load; and reducing uncertainty. Their different
bases of knowledge give group members various types of power and influence. Three interaction
techniques that are frequently utilized are unilateral decisions, adversarial proceedings, and
negotiations. (G. Larry Mays (n.d), para. 3) References Arizona Judicial Branch. (2013). Jury Service

Drive Hunting in the Oceans
Every year tens of thousands of marine mammals are killed all over the world, with over twenty
thousand small cetaceans killed in Japanese waters alone (Butterworth et al., 2013). These small
cetaceans include various species of small whales, many dolphin species and some porpoises. They
are killed in various manors, ranging from accidental ship strikes to the more morally controversial
yearly drive hunts. As you may know nearly all cetaceans use some sort of sound production in order
to navigate waters, communicate with other individuals and groups of their respective species as well
as capture prey (Brownell et al., 2008). An example of this is the variety sounds produced by
bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) when exploring and foraging. These types of noises vary
from echolocation, whistles and pops according to Nowacek (2005) which aid in location of prey, and
communication when hunting in groups. Bottlenose dolphins are one of the most well known cetacean
species (Bearzi et al., 2008). They inhabit various marine habitats across the world including just
about any region with a warm temperate to tropical ocean climate (Reeves et al., 2002). Just like many
other cetaceans they are well known for inhabiting coastal areas, which makes them particularly
vulnerable to human interaction and threats they wouldn t necessarily face on the coast of uninhabited
lands (Wilson et al., 2008). This use of sound is an extraordinary adaption for life under the sea, unless

The Effects Of Reporting The Financial Crisis On Subprime...
Different levels of analyses adopted in this research shed a new perceptive light on the reality of
reporting the financial crisis in 2007 in which business journalists were troubled by a plethora of
slanted opinions that never coalesced into a coherent examination of the problem. Comment
discrepancies and all kinds of implausible interpretations from high ranking financial pundits might
partially explain why despite a large number of business stories issued during the crisis the media
remained baffled and uncertain about the length and depth of the downturn. However, that financial
journalism put aside investigative reporting, as well as the fact that it could not adopt a critical view
about the functioning of the system and identified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 1999 to 2004, more than two dozens of US states ranging from North Carolina to South

ferociously to lawless lending practices at Wall Street and hold Wall Street originators of MBS to

The Relationship Between Sam Spade And The Maltese Falcon...
Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers
development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and
American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that
perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that the
American hardboiled novel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and the self
development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops her
protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the world and is
given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either drastically in plot
development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of their own lives.
The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character after
his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam Spade s
opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers can t expect
the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. In a sub genre of Mystery, this moral
questioning plays on the emotional mystery of not knowing fully that the protagonist is actually going
to be the hero. Not only questioning if he s the hero, but questioning if he might possibly be the

Essay On Lincoln Chapter 4
The four guards had come together, not sure as to what to do. This turned out to be a big mistake. As
they were about to walk into the truck s rear, a device came flying out of it, bounced a few times, then
landed in the middle of those four.
By the time they looked down to see what it was, the grenade went off. It instantly killed the four
guards and sent everyone else flying backwards from where they were. As for Lincoln he went flying
back into a tower of large boxes. It hurt. He was now on his knees, feeling quite groggy and struggling
to get back his hearing.
Just after the grenade, another device came bouncing in from the back of the truck. This one was
spurting out smoke. Some sort of smoke bomb! Within seconds the whole room was ... Show more

The goggles, Lincoln guessed would have allowed him to see easily in the smoke and the mask might

not fire but bent over him and pulled his head back.
Got him over here! was what he said next. Then another military person appeared out of the mist and
the two of them grabbed Lincoln by the shoulders and literally dragged him towards the truck. Lincoln
was still groggy enough not to be able to resist. One of them grabbed his gun before he could do
anything.
Lincoln s only course of action now was to remain as still as possible. His feet dragged along the floor
until they all got to the truck. The two soldiers then took him down the stairs to the front of the truck.
They opened the door and flung him in. Lincoln was about to jump out again when one of them pulled
his rifle around and pointed it at him. Lincoln got back in and sat quietly.
After a moment or two, a soldier got in on the driver s side and another jumped into the passenger
side. Lincoln noted that one was a little short for a soldier. He was now surrounded by these soldiers
with no hope of escaping. The truck sped off down the alleyway and into the street.
Lincoln was slowly regaining his senses. He still thought this was an illusion but it suddenly occurred
to him that he was out of the warehouse. Maybe his mind manifested this scenario. He was

Descriptive Essay About My Experience
New Beginnings I love butterflies; they are beautiful creatures who dance around the sky as their
wings flutter gracefully through the air. Butterflies floating in nature are amazing! However, when
they are spinning circles in your stomach, they are nauseating. That is how I felt as I prepared for my
visit to the Coshocton County Court of Common Pleas. It was a warm muggy day and the air felt thick
like it was going to rain. I walked down Main Street in Coshocton, past the gym that I frequently visit,
and across the street. There I stood in front of a tall, cement gray building. My friend, Tessa, had
arranged my appointment to be a spectator at a hearing for Family Drug Court. I did not know what to

The light gave off a bright glow which made me think of those detective movies where the
investigator interrogates suspects in a darkened room. My eyes scanned around the walls and I saw
photographs of judges from the past posed in their black robes, framed in the same cherry wood that
trimmed the room. Beautiful marble embellished the elevated platform that was located in the front
and center part of the triangular shaped room. This platform was the bench where the Honorable Judge
Van Blanchard II would be appearing. Finally, Judge Blanchard walked into the chamber and calmly
sat down. As he entered, the room grew quiet. He looked kind and gentle, had white hair with gray
peppered through it, and had a pleasant smile. He glanced in my direction, noticing that someone new
was in the room, and again I felt like all eyes were on me. It was then that my friend, whom had been
hidden from my view behind her computer, popped up from her chair and introduced me to the
onlookers. I stood up and thanked Judge Blanchard for allowing me to sit in to observe the case and
explained why I was there. As quietly as I could, I sat back down into my squeaky chair, and the room
filled with noisy discussion once again. Like a busy stock trading center, the caseworkers started
conversing back and forth with the judge. They would review each case and give their professional
opinion of how their clients were reacting to the

What Is Mental Health Normal Or Abnormal
Mental Health Normal or abnormal.
Mental health is described as a state of emotional and psychological well being in which an individual
is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary
demands of everyday life. The impairment of behaviour in psychological and interpersonal disciplines
in daily life are some of the aspects that are more likely to be considered as a sign of abnormality.
Another aspect of abnormality in society is that when a person contrast in behaviour and intelligence
from the majority of people, wether good or bad, is classed under an abnormal behaviour, it is also
known as statistical infrequency. One of the well known case emerged in USA, where 58 year old man
from USA, remembers up to half the days of his own life in shockingly vivid detail (The Telegraph).
He was diagnosed with a condition called hyperthymestia, meaning overdeveloped memory. This rare
condition is only discovered in just four people around the world. Another aspect of measuring mental
health is deviation from social norms and cultural relativism. For example, homosexuality is still
considered as a mental illness or abnormal behaviour in most of the countries, including India and
Africa.
The two different form of classification systems are widely used to identify the psychological
disorders in depth. An International Classification of Diseases 10th edition (ICD 10; World Health
Organization, 1992) and the Diagnostic and

Decision making is an act that every individual practices as part of daily life, both in their professional
and personal interactions. Decision making is traditionally recognised as being comprised of two
parts; the emotional and the rational. Emotion is an experience that affects individuals to varying
degrees and is vital to human survival. For example if humans

Christian Philosophy Research Paper
Life gets in the way and we tend to separate ourselves from God. We shut down because we think he

that we all go through in life if you a humanist or a Christian, we ll contrast each discipline from

worldview because it is dependable with the bible. We question ourselves about what is real, what s

The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido
Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical
issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as
stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all
the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical
agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a
foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being
dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will
always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on
ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not
belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic,
prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the
filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. Stereotypical
images are in the cinematic register where they are intentionally included to make film sale and also to
be critical in the narration process. Hollywood stereotyping Latino s poet is common in many films
displaying poverty and crime as part of their livelihood. Moreover, they use standard films

The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII
The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever
committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our
nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict
the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable
damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of
Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens
through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness,
were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the
middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many
people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing
widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and
motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a
small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned
where innocent. According to government officials at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no
threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese

Theme Of Violence In The Kite Runner
Many literary works throughout history have used violence to teach a lesson or to help the author get
his or her point across. The Kite Runner is no exception. Hosseini used violence all throughout this
book to show how important courage was to him and how important of a trait it is for everyone to
poses. He did this on more than one occasion whether it was with Hassan s rape, Sohrab trying to kill
himself, or Amir and Assef fighting. Hosseini started off the novel showing what it is like to have a
lack of courage then he moved to gaining courage and finally ending with being able to use that
courage to help others. The way he showed a lack of courage through violence was Hassan s rape.
When Amir was standing there watching this heinous crime take place he has to choose whether he
was going to help or just turn away and ignore what was happening. I had one last chance to make a
decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up
Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to
me. Or I could run. I the end, I ran. (Pg 77). When Amir ran from this violence he showed that he didn
t have the courage to stand up for Hassan and it started his personal struggles that persisted throughout
the book. If Amir would have had the courage to have stopped the violent act that was happening to
his friend the main part of the book wouldn t have existed. The inner struggle that came

Azone Research Paper
2.1.7.3.3. Azone and derivatives: Azone (laurocapram, Figure 5) is a highly lipophilic liquid with an
octanol/water partition coefficient of 6.21. It is a chemically stable compound and an excellent solvent
for many drugs. Azone has a low irritating potential, a very low toxicity and nearly no
pharmacological activity (56, 58). It can be used as penetration enhancers for hydrophilic and
lipophilic substances such as steroids, antibiotics and antiviral agents and for peptide molecules as
well, such as insulin and vasopressin (58). The efficacy of Azone is concentration dependent and is
influenced by the choice of vehicle from which it is applied. Azone is most effective at low
concentrations, being employed typically between 0.1% and 5%, often between 1% and 3% (56).

To overcome this issue, many Azone like compounds have been synthesized (55). Modification in the
structure of Azone includes change in: a) The optimal hydrocarbon chain length The enhancement
activities increased as the length of the hydrophobic chains increased, but when the length of the chain
was longer than a certain limit, the activities rather decreased. The optimal hydrocarbon chain length
was between 8 and 14 carbons, which would vary according to their different polar heads. The action
of an enhancer was dependent on the balance between its hydrophilic and lipophilic nature, and
therefore different length of alkyl chain was required for best incorporation of the enhancer with
different polar heads into the skin lipid bilayers (60). b) Heterocyclic ring size The presence of five
member cycle increased the activity, while six and seven member cycle exhibited lower activity.
Azone analogs with a small polar head might be expected to be situated well into the polar lipid
domain, thus disrupting the ordered organization of the lipid layers (61). c) The heteroatoms in the

Homelessness Is A Serious Social Problem
Homelessness in America has been a considered a serious social problem for at least thirty to forty
years, affecting thousands upon thousands of people in all regions of the country. The individuals and
families that make up the homeless population face struggles every day that many of us may never
even experience in our entire lives. There are many factors that either contribute to or directly cause
homelessness. Unfortunately, many people in our society believe that homelessness is a personal
problem and should be up to the individual to fix. However, homelessness is actually a very serious
social problem that we all need to be concerned about and work together to bring it to an end. The
American society is so accustomed to labeling each other just by looks, clothing, and other material
goods. Power, wealth, and prestige seem to be the only things that many people want to live for, and
those people do not attempt to put themselves in other peoples shoes, especially not the shoes of a
homeless person. This is a terrible habit that has been such a huge part of our society for so long that a
lot of people do not even see the problem with it. They may not even realize how wrong and terrible it
is to label someone just by their looks or their life situation. But since we have done it for hundreds of
years, we all continue to do it and see no problem with it. Many people in our society label homeless
people as lazy, unmotivated, and even less intelligent than themselves just

service groups such as a Catholic Church agency, a predominantly Protestant agency, a Jewish Social

and report back to the court. If the youth made satisfactory progress then the individual would be

then this would prove that the stock market is inefficient as this implies that all available information
was not already impounded in stock prices. Hence the notion that stock prices reflect all available
information is known as the efficient market hypothesis (EMH). It was Professor Eugene Fama who
created the term EMH, in his paper Efficient Capital Markets and claimed that in efficient markets ...

The strong form of the EMH: Suggests that all information (public and private) is fully reflected in
asset prices. This means that not even insider information can be used to beat the market. Therefore
the only way to beat the market is by luck and chance only.
It can be noted that all three versions of EMH indicate a role for passive management and no role for
active management. As competition makes sure that any new information is reflected in stock prices.
Supporters of the EMH believe that active management is a wasted effort and that the expenses are
unjustifiable.
Fama disputed that in an active market of large numbers of well informed and intelligent investors,
stocks will be appropriately priced and reflect all available information. In these circumstances, no
information or analysis can be expected to result in out performance of an appropriate benchmark.
Because of the wide availability of public information, it is nearly impossible for an individual to beat
the market[1] .
Another Professor who also supports the EMH is Burton Malkeil; he popularized the notion of random

Argumentative Essay On Kennewick Man
The historic discovery of Kennewick Man in Kennewick, Washington, caused a great deal of
controversy on whether to use the skull for scientific purposes or to simply return him back to the
local tribes for reburial. At first, when Kennewick Man was first discovered in 1996, scientific testing
failed to determine the specific tribe that the man belonged to. In spite of the argument one could
make that it was unethical to keep the skull since it has to belong to one of the Native American tribes,
until a specific tribe was discovered as Kennewick Man s ancestors, I feel as if it was perfectly liable
to keep the skull for scientific use. However, Kennewick Man eventually was determined to be

By having requirements to return archaeological findings back to their native tribes entirely,
archaeologists are limited in their discoveries and possibly their job. An archaeological discovery is
meaningless if it never experiences any practical investigation on whether its characteristics benefit
society. For this reason, archaeologists should own the right to keep critically important parts of
Kennewick Man s skull such as his teeth, but return the rest of the skull to the Colville tribe and find
an equal compromise. DNA testing should be the first step in deriving information from an
archaeological discovery such as a skull, but NAGPRA should give archaeologists the right to keep
the most important parts of discoveries for scientific use and then return the remaining parts to the
native tribe. In the long run, scientific progress is prevented whenever conflicts emerge over the
ownership of archaeological discoveries, therefore Native American tribes should have the courtesy to
allow archaeologists to use only specific parts of a specimen and have the remaining parts returned to
them if DNA testing comes back positive in relation to their

Margaret Cavendish Called The Blazing World Summary
The Superiority Complex of Mankind Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World, Called
The Blazing World, is a 17th century work of prose fiction that represents a satirical, utopian kingdom
within a different world ( Margaret Cavendish, The Duchess of Newcastle. ). A young woman from
Earth enters this new world, meeting a society composed of various species of talking animals; these
hybrid animals from The Blazing World illustrate the readers understanding of the relationship
between humans and nature. In representing hybrid creatures as figures of knowledge and peaceful
coexistence, Cavendish addresses the damaging history of the superiority complex in fictional
literature. As a result, these cross species are seen as equal to ... Show more content on

Cavendish, she comments that animals may display greater knowledge in certain areas compared to
humans, despite the assumption by most natural philosophers that cognitively speaking, man doth
excel all other animals (Hayden, 108). In Cavendish s Philosophy, she writes, For what man knows,

Reflection On Early Learning
This reflection reviews my time at Goodstart Early Learning in Kyneton and the four weeks I spent
there during my first practicum round. The review will critically reflect my experience from this
practicum, using readings and learnings my strengthens and weaknesses will be revealed. Strategies
will also be implemented in what areas I need to focus on before my next practicum round.
Something that I observed at the beginning of my practicum were the issues concerning behavioural
guidance. There was a group of four boys who required the greatest assistance, my experience in
managing people and being a parent quickly reminded me in how to best support them. Knowing each
child and what their abilities and interests are enable educators to respond sensitively and
appropriately to each child (Cohrssen, Church, Tayler, 2011). I spoke with my mentor and other
educators and discovered the backgrounds of these boys and reasonings for their behaviours. I learnt
by observing the other educators how these behavioural guidance issues were managed and the many
techniques they used. Something I realised with the learning experiences I conducted was the need to
not speak too quickly and be clear and concise with my instructions. As I have had limited interaction
with young children as my stepchildren are now adults, I was unaccustomed in how to effectively
communicate with young children. At the beginning of my practicum the instructions and direction I

3.1 Recommended Future strategic direction to attain competitive advantage
3.1.1 Proposed strategy
It is important for a company to choose a relevant internationalization strategy in order to attain
competitive advantage. Basically, competitive advantage is a company s ability to perform in one or
more ways that competitors cannot or will not match (Philip Kotler, Gary Armstrong, 2007, p182)
As Lenovo has been successfully internationalizing into other country by using joint venture as their
strategy, the new relevant proposed strategy that the company can use is direct exporting. Direct

company policy to hedge all export orders taken in USD currency at time of order receipt.
Dependent on distributors The criticism of this strategy is that the company which is Lenovo will be
too dependent on their distributors as the distributors is the sole importer of the manufacturer s
product. However, since Lenovo is already a well establish brand in the world, the dependence on
distributors will not be a problem for Lenovo and they can eventually overcome it.

Characters In Roald Dahl s The Black Cat And The Landlady
Christopher Lee once said, There is a dark side in all of us. And for us bad people, the bad side
dominates. I think there is a great sadness in villains, and I have tried to put that across. We cannot
stop ourselves doing what we are doing. All humans, have a dark side to them, people know they are
doing something wrong, however, they cannot stop themselves from doing the action. There is a
sadness behind the actions someone takes and maybe even a tiny ounce of guilt however, it doesn t
stop them from having the flaws. In strange and mysterious stories, it is easy to see the flaws and
faults of a character. In Roald Dahl s The Landlady, Edgar Allan Poe s The Black Cat, and John
Collier s The Chaser , the character flaws are revealed throughout the story. In The Landlady, Billy s
flaw is in his absent minded behavior. Billy is not aware of the people around him and his
surroundings. He comes to Bath, England to look for a job. He comes across this house that is
compelling him, even though he originally wanted to stay at the Bell and Dragon, a hotel. However,
he is drawn to the house, which he doesn t find weird and he isn t confused why all of a sudden his

Coral Bleaching
Coral Bleaching
Abstract
Coral reefs have been called the rainforests of the ocean and are one of the most diverse and important
ecosystems on the planet. This paper will explore how global warming has effected these fragile
ecosystems. It will focus on the impact of increasing ocean temperatures on coral reefs.
Coral Reefs
Coral reefs exist globally from 30N to 30S latitude and have existed in some form on Earth for over
200 million years. Over 2500 species of coral have been identified 1000 of which are reef building
hard coral. Reefs are actually limestone structures produced by small animals called coral polyps.
These polyps contain unicellular plants (algae) called zooxanthellae in their tissue. They have a

As more of the sun s energy is retained by increasing greenhouse gases, the earth s oceans are heating
up. This can be seen by an increase in average water temperature and warm water anomalies (water
temperature over the average).
Coral Bleaching
Coral bleaching occurs when coral polyps are stressed. One form of stress on the coral is an increase
in temperature. Often a one degree Celsius elevation in the monthly mean maximum temperature is
enough to cause bleaching. Bleaching is the process of the coral polyps expelling the zooxanthallae.
The polyps are left without any pigmentation and appear nearly transparent. All that can be seen is the
white limestone skeleton. Corals normally recover from this bleaching unless high ocean temperatures
persist for too long a period or become too warm to permit recovery.
The bleaching events reported prior to the 1980 s were generally attributed to localized phenomena
such as major storm events, sever tidal exposures, sedimentation, rapid salinity changes, pollution or
thermal shock. The events since 1980 have not been so easily explained. Numerous laboratory studies
have shown a direct relationship between bleaching and water temperature stress ... Normally, he said
(Dr. Suraphol), it would take at least 2 3 years for the bleached corals to start to recover. (ReefPage)

Is High Fidelity Flight Simulation Necessary for Airline...
IS HIGH FIDELITY FLIGHT SIMULATION NECESSARY FOR AIRLINE PILOT TRAINING?
Abstract
One of the difficulties when objectivity looking into defining the levels of fidelity required in training
simulations is that simulators are frequently seen as replacements for training that previously would
have been conducted on the real equipment. The perception therefore is that the simulation should be
as close as possible to the real deal in order to successfully replace it. However, the genuine advantage
of using simulation in training is that where the actual equipment is designed for real operations, a
training simulator can be designed to meet specific training needs without unnecessarily extending the
fidelity of the simulation. A vital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has lead to an overemphasis on technological advancement to enhance simulation based training
(Francis Heybroek, 1992). In turn, this focus creates a lack of emphasis on the role of recreating
authentic operational scenarios which is the baseline for training airline pilots.
All this leads into another important aspect of simulation fidelity; Instructional Systems Design (ISD).
ISD is definitively linked to training effectiveness and is relative to the way in which simulator based
training is designed for the target audience. Recently there has been considerable research which
suggests that there is not a straightforward relationship between the increased realism of high fidelity
simulation and any significant enhancement in training effectiveness (National Center for Simulation,
2007). In fact, the research actually shows that increases in both efficiency and transfer of training do
occur through the careful process of ISD, and in particular the design of simulation based scenarios
that are responsive to the real operational needs of the target learner. These research results provide
the first facet that high fidelity simulation is not necessarily required for airline pilot training.
Operational Fidelity
Within the commercial aviation setting, considerable criticism has been directed at the current forms
of simulator based training for their singular focus on the

The Appalachian Mountains Of North America
The Appalachian Mountains are a mountain range in the eastern part of North America. The origin of
the mountain ranges name came about when Spanish explorer Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and his
crew were exploring the Florida coast in 1528, they found a Native American town with a name they
transliterated as Apalachen. The word Apalachen was also applied to an inland mountain range, and
through the course of time it became applied to the entire range and its spelling was changed (
Appalachian Mountains ).
These mountains are some of the oldest mountains on Earth. They even predate the formation of the
North American continent. Scientists have measured the Appalachian Mountains to be 300 to 500
million years old. These mountains extend almost 2,000 miles from the Canadian province of
Newfoundland and Labrador forming a zone approximately 90 to 300 miles wide, and run all the way
down to Alabama in the United States. Additionally, these mountains are found in the following states:
Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, Ohio, New England area, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Inequality Discrimination On The Workplace
Nowadays, with increasing variety in organizations, several inequalities in the workplace have
happened. In spite of the regulation policies which have limited inequalities on the workplace, it still
exists, because of personal characteristics, such as gender, age and different race (Allan, C Mcphail, R
Wilkinson, A 2008, p. 225). Inequality in the workplaces can be defined as the unfair discrimination
relating to things, such as wage differentials between men and women, unfair practices and unfairness
opportunities, particularly with regard to employment of people of different ethnic origins (Grainge,
2007, online). C2E TODAY (Committed 2 Equality) shows that in spite of large UK companies
declaring that they have eliminated inequalities in the workplace around 77 per cent of them have little
or no equality practices. Even though small companies situation is more serious, 97.5 per cent of them
have no equality practices in place (Committed 2 Equality, 2008, online). This paper will analyze

while Luther rebelled against certain teachings in the Catholic Church.
McCandless s rebellion was mostly for himself; he did not intend to start a movement. Luther had
bigger things in mind when he nailed a copy of The 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg

couple minutes. So Vyas, being a front line person, wanted to learn more. He learned that only 2.5% of
the world water is fresh, with that being said, most of it is frozen. They also learned that water born
diseases were making up the 80% of infections in the world and also cause death. Vyas decided that it
was a good idea to pursue the project and convinced the VP to allow the three technologists working
on it to become members of his technical team. He also asked Wagner to do a market assessment to
show potential opportunities for this technology. Cynthia Jackson thought Vyas was a great manager.
He recruited and retained good people in his unity and built them into teams that had motivation. He
had shown himself to be a good advocate for his group s ideas. She had made it clear to Vyas that they
were in jeopardy if things were not turned around. The third attempt had six people on the team in the
United States and India.
He is effective because he lead his team. He didn t give up

The Delivery Of Law Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies could face severe budget cuts if the nation s economy struggles and local
tax revenues drop. The consequences of spending cuts may cost layoffs, reduced services, shuttered
public facilities and badly needed infrastructure improvements pushed back even further (Tameez,
2014). The delivery of law enforcement services will fundamentally change as a result of severe
budget cuts. Hundreds of officers in a single police department could be laid off, which means there
will be fewer officers to respond to calls for service. In similar views, federal agencies must also have
a strategic fiscal budget plan in order to deliver their services efficiently and promptly.
Information sharing between the intelligence community and local law enforcement is crucial during
catastrophic events such as terrorist attacks, natural and man made disasters. When Hurricane Katrina
made landfall in late August of 2005, its destruction caused many deaths and disruption to the
economy. Houston felt Katrina s impact, but we were not badly hit as New Orleans. Many lessons
were learned from Hurricane Katrina and one such example where poor communication and lack of
information sharing between the federal, state and city law enforcements. It is believed that all levels
of government weren t prepared for a catastrophic incident like Katrina. There were lack of planning
and coordination; overlapping of rescue teams was dispatched to the same location while leaving
many other locations

My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course
At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had
taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the
skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a
problem my writing did not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but
this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of
my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the
workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words
to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays
would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like
to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one
reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essay structure
will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I
write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a
structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences
ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also

The Importance Of A 3d Supportive Structure
As mentioned before, in tissue regeneration is of crucial importance the use of a 3D supportive
structure because when cells are seeded into these scaffolds enables the proliferation of cells and
chondrogenic differentiation; and with it the three dimensional tissue formation. Scaffolds must be
able to withstand physiological loading until sufficient tissue regeneration occurs. Moreover, the
material must be sufficiently porous to allow for effective transport of nutrients. Finally, it should be
biocompatible and, if biodegradable, degrade as the tissue matrix is produced leaving only nontoxic
degradation products.
When using biomaterial scaffolds in tissue engineered constructs the 3D environment of the
extracellular matrix is being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
General scaffold requirements are shown in table 4:
Scaffold Requirements: Biological and material basis:
Biocompatibility To prevent adverse inflammatory or immune responses.
Cell attachment To optimize cell seeding for delivery and retention of cells and promote maintenance
of chondrogenic phenotype.
Porous 3D environment Support cell migration, proliferation and ECM production. High surface area
to volume ratio.
Interconnected/permeable Maximize nutrient/waste exchange and limit oxygen gradients.
Biodegradation Preferably in harmony with desired repair or regeneration process, whereby, by
products are metabolized or excreted from the body without eliciting an inflammatory response.
Bioactivity/gene delivery Act as a cell carrier or control the release of growth factors, transfection
vectors and/or genetically modified cells.
Mechanical integrity and integration Sufficient to support or match surrounding native tissue at site of
implantation, as well as mediate mechanical stimulus to cells during loading.
Structural anisotropy Promote native anisotropic tissue structure.
Size and Shape Reproducibly create scaffold of clinically relevant size and shape.
Surgical application Preferably allow minimally invasive techniques using injectable/flexible scaffold

Us Foreign Policy 1865-1914, Expansionist or Isolationist...
Was the foreign policy of the United States primarily isolationist or expansionist through 1865 1914?
At the turn of the century, and after gaining our independence, the United States land mass more than
doubled through the use of purchasing, annexing, and war. However, the foreign policy of our
government took a predominately isolationist stand. This was a national policy of abstaining from
political or economic relations with other countries. General Washington shaped these values by
upholding and encouraging the use of these principles by warning to avoid alliances in his farewell
speech. The reasoning behind these actions was that the Republic was a new nation. We did not have
the resources or the means to worry about other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the United States didn t have the authority or firepower to back this up, it resulted in almost
four decades of compulsory US involvement in any foreign affair. After the Civil War, Isolationistic
practices grew stronger as the government had to find a way to re unite the torn nation. President
Grover Cleveland promised to avoid committing the nation to form any alliances with other countries
while also opposed to the acquisition of new land. The climate of post Civil War US prevented us
from deep involvement in foreign affairs. Our navy was also weakened by the war. Our natural
resources were scarce and our diplomatic relations with other countries had been neglected. With the
attention of our government focused solely on our nation, we proceeded to develop our interior. One
of the biggest reasons for growth in US land mass was the public idea of Manifest Destiny. Americans
believed that it was the destiny of the United States to populate a huge, vast continent.
In the 1890 s, the Isolationist movement took a back seat and American foreign policy followed heavy
Expansionism. After the total expansion into the west, Americans perceived notion of Manifest
Destiny changed. They believed that since they were superior to other nations, their policy needed to
change from just territorial acquisition within its borders, to outside. The United States had to

In the sense that a strong nationalism emerged into the Americans, however we have to take sectionalism and the event such as the panic of 1819 into consideration. Considering the fact that the airline industry is characterized by the presence of a few carriers and many suppliers vying for business, it comes as no surprise that the power of the suppliers is low and the airlines have the upper hand in their interactions with the suppliers. The judge who presides over the trial has the ultimate authority in the courtroom. The judge must see that the trail is conducted in an orderly manner according to prescribed rules and laws covering the selection of the jury, the presentation of evidence, the arguments of the lawyers, the instructions to the jury, and the rending of the verdict (Arizona Judicial Branch, 2013, ... • 5. Drive Hunting in the Oceans Every year tens of thousands of marine mammals are killed all over the world, with over twenty thousand small cetaceans killed in Japanese waters alone (Butterworth et al., 2013). These small cetaceans include various species of small whales, many dolphin species and some porpoises. They are killed in various manors, ranging from accidental ship strikes to the more morally controversial yearly drive hunts. As you may know nearly all cetaceans use some sort of sound production in order to navigate waters, communicate with other individuals and groups of their respective species as well as capture prey (Brownell et al., 2008). An example of this is the variety sounds produced by bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) when exploring and foraging. These types of noises vary from echolocation, whistles and pops according to Nowacek (2005) which aid in location of prey, and communication when hunting in groups. Bottlenose dolphins are one of the most well known cetacean species (Bearzi et al., 2008). They inhabit various marine habitats across the world including just about any region with a warm temperate to tropical ocean climate (Reeves et al., 2002). Just like many other cetaceans they are well known for inhabiting coastal areas, which makes them particularly vulnerable to human interaction and threats they wouldn t necessarily face on the coast of uninhabited lands (Wilson et al., 2008). Different levels of analyses adopted in this research shed a new perceptive light on the reality of reporting the financial crisis in 2007 in which business journalists were troubled by a plethora of slanted opinions that never coalesced into a coherent examination of the problem. Comment discrepancies and all kinds of implausible interpretations from high ranking financial pundits might partially explain why despite a large number of business stories issued during the crisis the media remained baffled and uncertain about the length and depth of the downturn. However, that financial journalism put aside investigative reporting, as well as the fact that it could not adopt a critical view about the functioning of the system and identified ... Between 1999 to 2004, more than two dozens of US states ranging from North Carolina to South Carolina, California to New York passed various forms of anti predatory lending laws stipulating a lower interest rate threshold requiring credit disclosure (Starkman, 2014:202) in an effort to respond ferociously to lawless lending practices at Wall Street and hold Wall Street originators of MBS to account. Critical, hardest hitting investigative stories were prevalent during this time. When the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) conducted cases against the most notorious names in the subprime lending industry, i.e. Citigroup, JP Morgan, Delta Funding Corp., etc., many business newspapers also considered abusive lending their central beat and published a wide range of delicately told stories going into the dubious and execrable practice of Wall Street banks in impressive depth ( Easy Money: Subprime Lenders Make Killings Catering to Poorer Americans. • 7. The Relationship Between Sam Spade And The Maltese Falcon... Both Dashiell Hammett s development of Sam Spade in the Maltese Falcon and Dorothy Sayers development of Harriet Vane in Gaudy Night, leave something to be said about the way British and American detective novels create their characters in line with different views of life. Whether that perspective is relative to the time period and country, or just the views of the author, it is clear that the American hardboiled novel focuses strongly on the self interest of most of the characters, and the self development of Sam Spade and what his perception of life is. Dorothy Sayers develops her protagonist Harriet Vane in a similar way. She too is trying to understand her place in the world and is given the opportunity to do so at Shrewsbury. The two novels contrast either drastically in plot development and the types of crimes, which influences the character s views of their own lives. The Maltese Falcon begins by quickly establishing Sam Spade as a morally complex character after his affair with his partner s wife, even though he is supposed to be the protagonist. Sam Spade s opening description as a blond devil let the readers begin to picture his cynicism. Readers can t expect the normal actions of a protagonist as they can in Gaudy Night. In a sub genre of Mystery, this moral questioning plays on the emotional mystery of not knowing fully that the protagonist is actually going to be the hero. • 8. Essay On Lincoln Chapter 4 The four guards had come together, not sure as to what to do. This turned out to be a big mistake. As they were about to walk into the truck s rear, a device came flying out of it, bounced a few times, then landed in the middle of those four. By the time they looked down to see what it was, the grenade went off. It instantly killed the four guards and sent everyone else flying backwards from where they were. As for Lincoln he went flying back into a tower of large boxes. It hurt. He was now on his knees, feeling quite groggy and struggling to get back his hearing. Just after the grenade, another device came bouncing in from the back of the truck. This one was spurting out smoke. Some sort of smoke bomb! Within seconds the whole room was ... Then another military person appeared out of the mist and the two of them grabbed Lincoln by the shoulders and literally dragged him towards the truck. Lincoln was still groggy enough not to be able to resist. One of them grabbed his gun before he could do anything. Lincoln s only course of action now was to remain as still as possible. His feet dragged along the floor until they all got to the truck. The two soldiers then took him down the stairs to the front of the truck. They opened the door and flung him in. Lincoln was about to jump out again when one of them pulled his rifle around and pointed it at him. Lincoln got back in and sat quietly. After a moment or two, a soldier got in on the driver s side and another jumped into the passenger side. Lincoln noted that one was a little short for a soldier. He was now surrounded by these soldiers with no hope of escaping. The truck sped off down the alleyway and into the street. Lincoln was slowly regaining his senses. • 9. Descriptive Essay About My Experience New Beginnings I love butterflies; they are beautiful creatures who dance around the sky as their wings flutter gracefully through the air. Butterflies floating in nature are amazing! However, when they are spinning circles in your stomach, they are nauseating. That is how I felt as I prepared for my visit to the Coshocton County Court of Common Pleas. It was a warm muggy day and the air felt thick like it was going to rain. I walked down Main Street in Coshocton, past the gym that I frequently visit, and across the street. There I stood in front of a tall, cement gray building. Beautiful marble embellished the elevated platform that was located in the front and center part of the triangular shaped room. This platform was the bench where the Honorable Judge Van Blanchard II would be appearing. Finally, Judge Blanchard walked into the chamber and calmly sat down. As he entered, the room grew quiet. He looked kind and gentle, had white hair with gray peppered through it, and had a pleasant smile. He glanced in my direction, noticing that someone new was in the room, and again I felt like all eyes were on me. It was then that my friend, whom had been hidden from my view behind her computer, popped up from her chair and introduced me to the onlookers. I stood up and thanked Judge Blanchard for allowing me to sit in to observe the case and explained why I was there. As quietly as I could, I sat back down into my squeaky chair, and the room filled with noisy discussion once again. • 10. What Is Mental Health Normal Or Abnormal Mental Health Normal or abnormal. Mental health is described as a state of emotional and psychological well being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. The impairment of behaviour in psychological and interpersonal disciplines in daily life are some of the aspects that are more likely to be considered as a sign of abnormality. Another aspect of abnormality in society is that when a person contrast in behaviour and intelligence from the majority of people, wether good or bad, is classed under an abnormal behaviour, it is also known as statistical infrequency. One of the well known case emerged in USA, where 58 year old man from USA, remembers up to half the days of his own life in shockingly vivid detail (The Telegraph). He was diagnosed with a condition called hyperthymestia, meaning overdeveloped memory. This rare condition is only discovered in just four people around the world. Another aspect of measuring mental health is deviation from social norms and cultural relativism. For example, homosexuality is still considered as a mental illness or abnormal behaviour in most of the countries, including India and Africa. The two different form of classification systems are widely used to identify the psychological disorders in depth. The Characteristics And Stereotypes Of Latinos El Bandido Reports show that Latinos are the most underrepresented ethnic group in film affected by stereotypical issues shown via pictures in our heads and through watching. I concur with this information as stereotype starts from a personal level, which is definite through meditation, this does not include all the negative traits portrayed by the out group. Although we have some general stereotypical agreements within in groups that cannot change. This stereotyping is evident in a case where a foreigner defines Bandido accurately while a (North) American will involve them with laziness, being dirty and all sorts of negativity on them. These findings make me feel that Latinos and Americans will always be contrary to their film industry. The stereotype on Latinos el Bandido is based not only on ethnic but also behavioral, where they are deemed violent and antisocial, different nationality, as in not belonging to the North America and psychological where they are associated with alcoholic, prostitution and being unstable. With this stereotype, Hollywood is seen as a perfect example of the filmmaking and professionalism, in a way this demeans the Latinos effort in the film. • 15. The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. According to government officials at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese problem ... • 16. Theme Of Violence In The Kite Runner Many literary works throughout history have used violence to teach a lesson or to help the author get his or her point across. The Kite Runner is no exception. Hosseini used violence all throughout this book to show how important courage was to him and how important of a trait it is for everyone to poses. He did this on more than one occasion whether it was with Hassan s rape, Sohrab trying to kill himself, or Amir and Assef fighting. Hosseini started off the novel showing what it is like to have a lack of courage then he moved to gaining courage and finally ending with being able to use that courage to help others. The way he showed a lack of courage through violence was Hassan s rape. When Amir was standing there watching this heinous crime take place he has to choose whether he was going to help or just turn away and ignore what was happening. I had one last chance to make a decision. One final opportunity to decide who I was going to be. I could step into that alley, stand up Hassan the way he d stood up for me all those times in the past and accept whatever would happen to me. Or I could run. I the end, I ran. (Pg 77). When Amir ran from this violence he showed that he didn t have the courage to stand up for Hassan and it started his personal struggles that persisted throughout the book. It can be used as penetration enhancers for hydrophilic and lipophilic substances such as steroids, antibiotics and antiviral agents and for peptide molecules as well, such as insulin and vasopressin (58). Azone is most effective at low concentrations, being employed typically between 0.1% and 5%, often between 1% and 3% (56). Addition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The optimal hydrocarbon chain length was between 8 and 14 carbons, which would vary according to their different polar heads. The action of an enhancer was dependent on the balance between its hydrophilic and lipophilic nature, and therefore different length of alkyl chain was required for best incorporation of the enhancer with different polar heads into the skin lipid bilayers (60). b) Heterocyclic ring size The presence of five member cycle increased the activity, while six and seven member cycle exhibited lower activity. Homelessness Is A Serious Social Problem Homelessness in America has been a considered a serious social problem for at least thirty to forty years, affecting thousands upon thousands of people in all regions of the country. The individuals and families that make up the homeless population face struggles every day that many of us may never even experience in our entire lives. There are many factors that either contribute to or directly cause homelessness. Unfortunately, many people in our society believe that homelessness is a personal problem and should be up to the individual to fix. However, homelessness is actually a very serious social problem that we all need to be concerned about and work together to bring it to an end. The American society is so accustomed to labeling each other just by looks, clothing, and other material goods. Power, wealth, and prestige seem to be the only things that many people want to live for, and those people do not attempt to put themselves in other peoples shoes, especially not the shoes of a homeless person. This is a terrible habit that has been such a huge part of our society for so long that a lot of people do not even see the problem with it. They may not even realize how wrong and terrible it is to label someone just by their looks or their life situation. In theory the Stock Market is said to be efficient as stock prices should follow a random walk, which, means that stock price changes should be random and unpredictable, If stock prices were predictable then this would prove that the stock market is inefficient as this implies that all available information was not already impounded in stock prices. This paper will explore how global warming has effected these fragile ecosystems. It will focus on the impact of increasing ocean temperatures on coral reefs. Coral Reefs Coral reefs exist globally from 30N to 30S latitude and have existed in some form on Earth for over 200 million years. Over 2500 species of coral have been identified 1000 of which are reef building hard coral. Reefs are actually limestone structures produced by small animals called coral polyps. As more of the sun s energy is retained by increasing greenhouse gases, the earth s oceans are heating up. This can be seen by an increase in average water temperature and warm water anomalies (water temperature over the average). Coral Bleaching Coral bleaching occurs when coral polyps are stressed. One form of stress on the coral is an increase in temperature. Often a one degree Celsius elevation in the monthly mean maximum temperature is enough to cause bleaching. Bleaching is the process of the coral polyps expelling the zooxanthallae. The polyps are left without any pigmentation and appear nearly transparent. All that can be seen is the white limestone skeleton. Corals normally recover from this bleaching unless high ocean temperatures persist for too long a period or become too warm to permit recovery. The bleaching events reported prior to the 1980 s were generally attributed to localized phenomena such as major storm events, sever tidal exposures, sedimentation, rapid salinity changes, pollution or thermal shock. The events since 1980 have not been so easily explained. Numerous laboratory studies have shown a direct relationship between bleaching and water temperature stress ... • 33. Is High Fidelity Flight Simulation Necessary for Airline... IS HIGH FIDELITY FLIGHT SIMULATION NECESSARY FOR AIRLINE PILOT TRAINING? Abstract One of the difficulties when objectivity looking into defining the levels of fidelity required in training simulations is that simulators are frequently seen as replacements for training that previously would have been conducted on the real equipment. The perception therefore is that the simulation should be as close as possible to the real deal in order to successfully replace it. However, the genuine advantage of using simulation in training is that where the actual equipment is designed for real operations, a training simulator can be designed to meet specific training needs without unnecessarily extending the fidelity of the simulation. A vital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has lead to an overemphasis on technological advancement to enhance simulation based training (Francis Heybroek, 1992). In turn, this focus creates a lack of emphasis on the role of recreating authentic operational scenarios which is the baseline for training airline pilots. All this leads into another important aspect of simulation fidelity; Instructional Systems Design (ISD). ISD is definitively linked to training effectiveness and is relative to the way in which simulator based training is designed for the target audience. Recently there has been considerable research which suggests that there is not a straightforward relationship between the increased realism of high fidelity simulation and any significant enhancement in training effectiveness (National Center for Simulation, 2007). In fact, the research actually shows that increases in both efficiency and transfer of training do occur through the careful process of ISD, and in particular the design of simulation based scenarios that are responsive to the real operational needs of the target learner. These research results provide the first facet that high fidelity simulation is not necessarily required for airline pilot training. Operational Fidelity Within the commercial aviation setting, considerable criticism has been directed at the current forms of simulator based training for their singular focus on the ...
