The Early Colonial Cases In The Colonial Era
In early colonial cases involving sentencing, the judges and or juries were more lenient towards
white offenders more than black offenders of whom were slaves at the time. The punishments of
the colonial era emulated English practices with ties to biblical references. Four cases illustrated
the discrepancies involving slaves receiving harsher punishments compared to their white
counterparts. In Virginia, the case of Re Davis (1630), where a white male, Hugh Davis, violated
the law by sleeping with a Black woman, [with] a sentence of penance on the next Sabbath day
(Gabbidon Greene, 2015, pg. 182). Within the society of the time, a class bias is already formed
between the superior races and inferior races. A second case involving another

Relationship Between Rising Us Unemployment and the...
Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar?
Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade
accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United
States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as
exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate
gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing
trade surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can
determine that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on

Although lower interest rates can improve domestic spending, it will discourage foreign
investors because the return on their investments decreases. As of September 2011, the US
interest rate is close to 0% and Canada s rate is at 1% as determined by the Bank of Canada. Low
interest rates indicate that the US is in poor financial health. More countries will want to invest in
Canada if the US is in a risky financial situation and additionally, provides low returns. The value of
the Canadian dollar rises when demand increases.
Due to America s increasing government debt and declining interest rates, Canada s economy is
comparatively more stable. Canada s credit rating is currently higher than America s. A credit
rating indicates the financial health of a country and how large the risk is for lenders to invest.
Standard and Poor s, a credit rating agency, currently downgraded America s rating to AA+ from
the highest score of AAA. The downgrade was a result of the U.S. s increasing debt from the
recession. Canada s credit rating is still the highest at triple A because of the country s stability.
Canada is more attractive to invest in, as there are solid returns on the interest rates and low risk
for lenders. Increased demand in Canadian assets can result in a higher exchange rate. Investors
want to put money into a country where they believe it is a safe haven.
Although Canada can become more

Shoe Dog Chapter Summary
The book I read was Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, and it goes through the story on some of his life
focusing mostly on the founding of one of the most famous shoe companies in the world, Nike. Phil
Knight was a
24 year old man who had just returned home to Oregon after graduating with a master s from
Stanford and serving in the US Army for a year. He was a very good runner growing up and even
ran at a high level at the University of Oregon in his undergrad days, but was never good enough
to be elite. One day during a run he formulated an idea in his mind about running shoes and it
never left him. During an entrepreneurial class he was taking at Stanford he came up with a
complete business model and presented it to the class as a school
project. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The shoes never came, and after waiting around long enough
Knight returned to work, taking a job at an accounting firm. Then finally, after a year since he was
in Japan, the shoes arrived.
This was one of the first times I felt that Knight was going on the right path because the first thing
he did when he got his shoes was send a couple pairs of them to his legendary track coach from the
University of Oregon, Bill Bowerman. Impressed with the shoes,
Bowerman wanted in on the deal and they became partners in a 51 49 split, giving Knight control
of his company. The first order of 300 shoes was paid for thanks to a loan from Knight s father and
it was confirmed that Knight would be the distributor for the Japanese shoes in the West.
He immediately quit his accounting job and began selling the shoes from his car. This was bad
communication on Knights part in regard to being now known as the distributor in the west
because he never got a full contract in writing.
The way he marketed and tried to get the people on board was amazing; with himself being in the
running game he could go to all the track and field meets to talk to all the people there. His belief in

The Debate Over Embryonic Stem Cells
Over 100 million Americans suffer from diseases that eventually may be treated more
effectively or even cured with embryonic stem cell therapy. Some researchers regard this as the
greatest potential for the alleviation of human suffering since the advent of antibiotics (White).
However, not everybody agrees with this. While embryonic stem cells offer much hope for
medical advancement because of their ability to grow into almost any kind of cell, the moral
debate of the destruction of an embryo continues. Embryonic stem cells are taken directly from
an embryo before the embryo s cells begin to develop into their specific cells. While there may
be promise of embryonic stem cells triggering medical advancements, the ongoing controversy
continues to hinder research. Embryonic stem cells can be defined as blank cells that have not
yet been categorized or programmed by the body, and can be prompted to generate any of the
220 human cell types. (White). Because of this reason, these cells are extremely flexible; in
cancer treatment, cells destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation can be replaced with new cells
that adapt to any body tissue, whether it s in the heart, lungs, brain, etc. Dead cells of almost any
kind can be replaced with new stem cells. These stem cells are harvested when the embryo is
referred to as a blastocyst, which is what some consider when life begins which is also where the
controversy begins. Those who support embryonic stem cellresearch believe that

Civil Rights in the USA 1945-1975 Essay
Civil Rights in the USA 1945 1975
1) How did the civil rights movement change between 1945 and 1975? [6]
Black Americans had a very tough time, there were lots of things they couldn t do just because of
the colour of their skin. In the southern states of America racism was just an everyday experience
for black people. The civil rights movement in the United States was a political, legal, and social
struggle that was organized by black Americans with some help from white America. The civil
rights struggle was aimed at gaining full citizenship and racial equality for all Americans,
particularly the most discriminated group, African Americans, and was a challenge to segregation.

NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Coloured People) is an
American organization which was created to work to get rid of segregation and discrimination
in housing, education, employment, voting, and transportation; to oppose racism; and to ensure
blacks their rights. The NAACP was created in 1909, by a group of young blacks led by W.E.B.
Du Bois, and a group of concerned white people. Since its founding, the NAACP has been
successful in the areas of legal distress. Also other areas include political action for civil right
laws, programs of education and public information to win popular support, and direct action to
achieve their set goals. In 1939 the NAACP Legal Defence and Education Fund was established
independently of the NAACP to act legally for the Civil Rights Movement, and it was the
NAACP s legal council that carried to the Supreme Court the case Brown v. Board of Education of
Topeka.

Compare and Contrast a Technical Approach to Innovation
Innovation has traditionally been seen as technical issue concerned only with machinery and
systems. Compare and contrast this technical approach to innovation with the more knowledge
centred approaches discussed on this course. Your answer should draw upon case study evidence to
critically assess the value of the two approaches.
Innovation is a key element of modern business. In a world full of modern industrialised nations it
is essential for big business to innovate. Ed Rhodes and David Wield identify innovation as; the
implementation of new technologies (Rhodes, E, 1994, page 79) for a firm to rise above its
adversaries and create brand loyalty innovation is key. There are two fields of innovation, Ed
Rhodes highlighted ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Innovation follows science (Chris Land, 2006, Lecture 2) scientific discoveries since the spinning
jenny in the industrial revolution have changed the way our industries operate. There are many
fields of science; the typical view of science is technological, biological, chemical, and physically
orientated; i.e. science is tangible and therefore the widely known view of innovations relates to
these tangible sciences; dyson vacuum cleaners, the spinning jenny; both technological innovations.
Today, there are intangible sciences such as the science of Management, where new theories and
innovations on how to motivate the workforce, organise strategies, market strategies and the
management of strategic core competencies have revolutionised the industry. Knowledge
innovation is creativity and logic put to strategies of how to go about doing things, opposed to
technical innovation as creativity and logic put to the research and development of a new product.
James Dyson said about innovation, It s the unlikely juxtaposition of creativity and logic which
causes the wooliness and confusion around the term innovation . (James Dyson, Ingenia, Issue 24,
2005, page 32)
(Chris Land, 2006, Lecture 2)
To what does knowledge innovation refer to? There are two perspectives as to how to perceive

Pizza Delivery Quick
The Pizza Delivery Quick (PDQ) Industry service in America is considered to be a very successful
market in the quick service restaurant industry. Although the industry success is very appealing,
managing the day to day operations needs significant planning and a clear tactics to create,
implement, execute and have successful results. However, the PDQ last report sales are on the
level of 30%, which places the company in a serious difficult position to continue operating
competitively.
The PDQ project will take a detail process that will help launch the appropriate software technology
along with existing processes in order to implement new cutting edge innovations. Although
technology is not the only leverage for improving project management, modern technology is an
important element (Kendall Austin, 2013). Today, businesses depend on technology to produce
more in less time and with minimal resources making modern technology a critical component to a
successful business. In today s high tech world, it is important to develop and execute effective
project management strategies that will place the company at a competitive level. Companies must
continue to work on projects that will drive their business to innovate and change for the better
(Shenhar Dvir, 2997).

This is no new thing, but in recent years bullying acts have become more violent and lethal.
Bullying has also been considered a contributing factor in violent acts. Perpetrators in recent school
shooting incidents described feelings of being persecuted, bullied, or threatened by their peers (
National Bullying Awareness Campaign 2005).
Consequences of bullying include decreased student interest in school, increased absences, and
decreased concentration levels for students. Those who witness this behavior bystanders can also
be affected by acts of bullying. Many bystanders feel angry and helpless because they do not know
what to do. They worry about becoming a target themselves and feel guilty for not taking action (
National Bullying Awareness Campaign 2005). Bullying is any intimidating, hurtful behavior, such
as, pushing or shoving on the playground. Or an ongoing series of deliberate actions, such as, name
calling day after day ( Bullying, 2003). Many children complain that they are teased, called names,
pushed, hit pinched or kicked, having their money or other possessions taken. Bullying

Does he bite? Did you buy him a proper collar?
Oh. My. God. I hate you. Before he can do anything rash, like become an only child and call
Hoshi for help with burying the body, the printer comes to life again. Yoongi wraps an arm around
Jihoon s waist and yanks him back before he can reach the paper, laughing when Jihoon huffs and
tries to trip him.

Funding Higher Education For Universities
Introduction In the world of higher education today, many universities are facing tight budgets.
Funding higher education has become a major issue for institutions across the nation for various
reasons. University endowments are not what they use to be before the financial crisis in 2008
(Weisbrod Asch, 2010). State appropriations to universities are down and are not as much as they
once were in the past. With a decline in state appropriations, public institutions have been forced to
rely more on tuition revenue. Universities are now competing more than ever with each other to get
students to attend their institution so that they can receive their tuition revenue. As tuition
increases, there becomes an increase for a need of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Separately we are weak, but together we are strong. Ultimately, due to a plethora of reasons, higher
education funding has become difficult and resulted in higher tuition for students and to combat
this issue, university and business partnerships need to be created and become a major goal which
will yield benefits for both parties involved.
University Funding Issues Funding colleges and universities has become a crisis for the higher
education system in America. The higher education funding issue is not caused by one issue but
rather multiple issues like endowment losses, falling investments, declining donations, declining
state appropriations, and increased student financial aid which leads to a decreased tuition revenue
(Weisbrod Asch, 2010). Some of these funding issues create other funding issues like an increase in
tuition revenue that creates an increase in student financial aid and then decreases the tuition
revenue resulting in lower funds for the institution. Since the economic downturn in 2007 and 2008
and even before then, there has been a decline in state appropriations to public colleges and
universities (Weisbrod Asch, 2010). Colleges and universities believe that lawmakers have lost faith
and do not believe in them, which have resulted in the significant and constant loss of state
appropriations to higher education (Longanecker, 2006).

The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster...
Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half Indian foster
child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls
himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated
by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism
which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze
how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations.
Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits
method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most
of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of
Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg.
59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits
uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given
names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61).
For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of
naming also reveals how he feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a
broomstick (pg. 9). Therefore, his name reveals how he

Rhetorical Analysis Of Banksy
Rhetorical Analysis of Banksy s The Son of a Migrant from Syria
With his piece The Son of a Migrant from Syria painted on the walls of a refugee camp in Calais,
France, anonymous British street artist, who is known by the pseudonym Banksy, enters the
politically fueled debate about the refugee and migrant crisis across the world. Western societies
in particular are concerned about the economic impact of accepting immigrants and refugees but
Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian migrant. Apple is the world s most profitable company, it pays
over $7 billion a year in taxes (Neuendorf, 2015) said by the rarely publicly outspoken street artist.

The British artist has no true public identity. With no background on the individual responsible
for the mural it is difficult to know if he carries any clout in the political or sociocultural world.
Banksy is known to be somewhat of a socialistic democrat, as implied by the genre of his art, but
otherwise there is no information given to assess his credibility. Given that Banksy is quite
popular and well known, his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but
not as a credible resource in regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity
towards political and socially controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues
surrounding the treatment of migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. However, his expertise in
the subject is made even less reliable due to the lack of relevance Steve Jobs has with the actual
situation. For example, Steve Jobs was the son of a migrant and not a migrant himself and he was
adopted and had never met his migrant father therefore he is not an accurate representative for
refugees or migrants. Banksy s visual appeal to ethos is virtually non existent for those unfamiliar
with his works. This may not effect the viewer s engagement in the argument but makes them
disregard Banksy s personal contribution to the argument. Overall, the appeal to Ethos appears to
be minimally effective in persuading the audience towards his

The M M Campaign Essay
Brand campaigns is generally regarded as application of specific activities created to promote a
product. Companies typically employ it when they want to increase their sales. Use of one or an
integrated media techniques may come into effects, for instance, use of television, print and social
media. The point is to capture the target audience s attention as well as generate response from
them. This is exactly what M M managed to do with its Better with M campaign where they used
unique advertising and marketingapproaches that had emotional and psychological effect on the
target market. The M M campaign use of personification and personalization was a brilliant move
that cemented the company as leaders in candy and chocolate manufacturing. Several slogans and

the book: My throne shall be higher! his royal voice thundered, So pile up more turtles! I want

somebody else is the king, then that means that sometimes bad decisions can lead to somebody
else s good or just plain bad with it just going away. When Yertle saw the moon and wanted to

age group, and for two, that lots of the words rhymed and it made it flow. Thirdly is that the

Social And Biological Characteristics Of Femininity In...
Femininity is comprised of both the social and biological factors that make a person feminine or
womanly. The ideal feminine varies by society, culture and even era. According to _____,
femininity or masculinity is based on what society considers to be valuable. In Marie de France s
Lanval femininity in its most ideal form, is based on exterior qualities such as a beautiful face and
thin body as well as a womans willingness to give her body and love to a man to use at his
disposal. These two qualities are exhibited by the woman in poem, making her valuable and
desired by society, but specifically Lanval who falls in love with her. This type of femininityis
shallow and materialistic, forgetting to acknowledge what is on the inside, varying much from the
characteristics that femininity would be composed of in today s society.

Orchesis Dance Organizational Structure
The Hierarchy/Structure Organizational structure is the formal and informal manner in which tasks
and responsibilities, lines of authority, channels of communication, and dimensions of power are
established and coordinated within an organization. (Kirst Ashman, 2010). This permits the
understanding and knowledge in regards to how decisions are made, what chain of command is
followed and what are some of the procedures that regulate the Orchesis Dance Company.

Reflection on Microeconomics Class
Reflection on Microeconomics Class Microeconomics is the economic influences that impact at
the micro, or firm, rather than macro level. The study of this subject is one that is highly
valuable for any studying business with the provision of knowledge that will increase
understanding of different influences and support the decision making processes. With the
knowledge gained, along with the skills in applying that knowledge developed through class
work and exercises for the different modules, there has also been the development of increased
confidence, both personal and in the theories, in using the relevant concepts and tools in a
practical setting. Some of the most important knowledge gained for practical purposes concerned
the concept and application of supply and demand. Anecdotal evidence of supply and demand
can be seen all around us; including the way that gasoline prices increase and decrease as a result
of the way oil prices, which resulted in a basic understanding of the underlying concept. Other
areas where this can be seen include examples such as the stock market and even web sites such as
eBay with the auction of goods. However, the ability to understand the way this operates not only
helps to explain the observed outcomes, the ability to use this to help predict potential outcomes for
different scenarios is highly useful. The concepts of elasticity and cross elasticity with different
influences, such as disposable income and competing products are all

TSA Airport Security
The Aviation Transportation Security Act of 2001 was the act that created the TSA. However, the
ATSA also created a conflict of interest within the TSA. Ybarra (2013) described the problem within
the TSA as an, agency that establishes transportation security policy and regulates those that
provide transportation operations and infrastructure (airlines, airports, railroads, transit systems,
etc.). But on the other hand, TSA itself is the operator of the largest component of airport security:
passenger and baggage screening.
The conflict of interest for the TSA lies in the screening of passengers and baggage. The airport
has responsibility for all other phases of security, such as, access control, perimeter control, lobby
control. The airport is responsible for these things but standards are upheld under TSA supervision.
However, for the screening of persons and objects the TSA conducts the screening and regulates
itself. Regulation at an arm s length is a basic principle of good government; self regulation is
innately problematic. (Ybarra 2013) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The TSA is no different than any other organization so with the self regulation of the screening
process with raises some questions. The TSA is very thorough in its evaluations of airlines and
airports but its actions toward its own workforce s poor performance is questionable at best. There
have be multiple newsworthy stories related to problems with the TSA operated screeners, like the
2007 USA Today investigation which uncovered TSA screeners at Chicago O Hare International
Airport (ORD) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) overlooked three times more
concealed bomb supplies than the private contractors at San Francisco International Airport (SFO).

The Ready-to-Eat Breakfast Cereal Industry in 1994 (A) -...
Sales of private label cereal grew 50% from 1991 1994 in the Ready to Eat breakfast cereal
industry. Some of the factors that contributed to the entry of private label cereal manufacturers and
their subsequent growth include lower costs related to manufacturing, packaging, marketing, R D
compared to the Big 3 cereal companies, product quality approaching that of branded products,
higher margins for grocers, lower priced products. Some observers blamed higher prices and
elaborate expenditure on coupon printing, distribution, redemption and reimbursement of grocer s
handling fee for market share gains made by private labelcereal products. The policy of price up

The RTE cereal industry was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Big 3 had high advertising to sales ratios of 10 14%, also deterring entry, because average
first year advertising cost for a new brand was over $20 million. We can conclude that total costs
related to producing private label products are lower than new branded products. Private label
products can offer greater margins to grocers and still sell at lower prices. They have a
considerable competitive cost advantage over the new branded products.

God s Omnipotence
Some people refer God as the Omnipotent, that is to say a being that has unlimited power, and is
able to do everything. God has four different attributes, he is omniscient, simple, eternal and
omnipotent. The latter raises some difficulties, and paradoxes. In a first part I will show how
omnipotence can be defined differently, how radical omnipotence differs with limited omnipotence
and the issue with logic. Then I will show how Gods omnipotence raises some paradoxes and
contradictions, by relying on the paradox of the stone and the problem of evil. Finally I will try
to answer some questions concerning God s ability to sin, to bring about the past, and to do things
not done by him. Does God s powers have a limit, could it then be... Show more content on

(Mackie, 1955)The claim that evil is necessary as a counterpart to good (Mackie, 1955, p.203) errs,
indeed we can again assert that as God made the laws of logic it would be possible for only good to
exist in the world.
Nevertheless the existence of evil in the world is required to prove what good really is. Without evil,
everything, every actions are considered good. But if good is everywhere, it becomes difficult
to measure it, and we cannot compare it with other actions. To be good is to possess and display
moral virtue, but how can we do that if evil does not exist ? Good has to be opposed to evil, for it
to exist. It then does not distract it with God s omnipotence. Mackie (1955) reckons that first
order evil such as pain and misery contrasts with first order good pleasure and happiness .
Moreover a second order good such as sympathy can only exist if there is a second order evil
suffering , similarly with heroism in facing danger (Mackie, 1955, p.206). But according to
Mackie this claim fails, in fact the second order evil that is cowardice or cruelty (Mackie, 1955,
p.207) is rising as much as another second order good. And if God were omnipotent and morally
good he would try and eliminate those evils.
Regarding evil and omnipotence many philosophers have taken the position that human have
freewill and are independent of God. And that

Pros And Cons Of Online Shopping Vs. Traditional Shopping
Shopping is when a person referred to as a customer, browses through a selection of goods and or
services with the intent to purchase an option that best suits them. Shopping is one of the most
common habits of today s society and is done both for leisure and economical purposes.
Traditionally, one would do their shoppingat a store, but with all the technological advancements
that we ve had over the years, our manners have been shifting toward the use of the Internet as more
consumers turn to online shopping. Each method has it s own pros and cons, and as to which
method is better, can be based solely on an individual s experience and perspective.

These cons, and I can only speak for myself, is why I personally like online shopping, but
unfortunately just as with traditional shopping, this method comes with its own set of pros and cons.
The main pro to online shopping is its convenience. Is the ability to shop for the best deals in a
much quicker fashion with just a few clicks. Unlike traditional shopping where you have to
memorize which store had what deal, with a mental note to go back to that particular store with
the risk of forgetting it all in the end. Shopping for the best deals is as easy as using a price match
or comparison website or search, or as having multiple tabs open, allowing you to browse and
shop at multiple stores at the same time, there even times that you can find the same item that is
available at the local store listed on the website but for a lower price. An extra bonus to this, is
once I ve found my deals for the items I m interested in buying, another plus is that I can save my
goods to a list or add my cart to wait until I m ready to make my purchase.
Another pro that online shopping offers that even I myself take advantage of is the option to have
items shipped to anywhere. When a special event such as a birthday, wedding, baby shower and
even Christmas comes around for my relatives that live in other states and or outside the country.
This allows me to shop for a gift and have sent directly to the special recipient with no

through modern mobile phones, which can provide all these services with the advantage of

communication method have experienced rapid growth, surpassing even the use of the traditional
methods like PCВґs. In relation to the mobile phones market and how the number of devices sold
is increasing every year, an article published last year by the website Statista (2), suggest that
total of mobile devices sold worldwide from 2007 to 2014 was 1,244.89 million units, and sales
growth is expected in 2015. It also describes the prediction of global mobile phone shipments from
2010 to 2019, making it clear that the increase in sales and user will continue the next years (3).
Considering the previous information, it is not too difficult imagine that some important data for
the final user, stored on the mobile phone memory can be deleted accidentally (for instance from a
device physically damaged, manually data deleted, etc.),

Post Modern Er Carson Mccullers
American literature does not only include characters, plots, settings, and themes, but also
historical and personal events that shape the writer s literature. One era that is known for outside
events influencing the writing of the time is the post modern era. The start of the post modern era
took place in the year 1945. This era took rise after two major historical events in America s
history, the Holocaust and the dropping of the atomic bombs on two Japanese cities. Once World
War II was over, Americans wanted to return to normal life. However, with the desire to return to
normal, Americans in the 1950 s had a hard time determining what they would consider normal.
One early post modern author, Carson McCullers, focused her writing on the feeling of isolation
and loneliness that American citizens were facing at the time. Carson McCullers s novels and
short stories contain themes of isolation, death, hope, and dark humor, which are all symbolic of
the hardships humans faced in the post modern time period and her own personal trials. Works of
literature from the post modern era contain similar characteristics. Post modern authors usually
include irony, dark humor, bisexuality, hope, isolation, and historical events in their writing. The
end of World War II played a major role in the desire for America to return to normal. Like all
other wars, there were thousands of people killed, but World War II was the deadliest military
conflict in history. Germany, one of the world s

Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart
Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a
PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt
charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both
types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide
responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a
Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the
design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for
each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart
displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the
arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but
the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of
each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT
typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes
it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of
completed tasks. Examine the advantages of using a Gantt chart over a PERT chart and vice versa.

Several multinational companies sponsored the UEFA Champions League. According to the policies
of the league, not more than eight companies should only sponsor a match. The game played on
3rd June 2017 was sponsored by Nissan, Heineken, MasterCard, Gazprom and PepsiCo companies.
During the match, the companies were allocated advertising boards that were visible on the
perimeter wall of the field used by the players.
Similarly, in both leagues, fans remain cheerful all through to the end of the match. For example,
even though Juventus fans were disappointed especially during the second half of the match, they
cheered their team to the end. They encouraged the players to keep on until the end. They only
stopped after the game had ended and their team had lost to the opponents. Likewise, United States

Both UEFA Champions League fans and those in the United States do not behave in any manner

Real world benchmarks may be as simple as timing how long it takes to copy a file, or they may
involve executing complex scripts that perform functions in many different applications. The main
advantage of these benchmarks is they measure performance using real applications. this same
advantage can also be a limitation, since the performance of one component may be artificially
limited by another. For example, we may be interested in disk performance, but a slow video
accelerator will slow down a benchmark that has a high proportion of video content. This in turn
could affect the workload presented to the disk drives.
Why Benchmark results may not be what we expect
пЂ Mechanical Latencies
The single largest contributor to low performance is the disk drive mechanical overhead. The
mechanical overhead consists of drive head seeks and rotational latencies. Rotational latency is the
time it takes for a sector on the disk media to rotate to the point under the read/write head. It is
inversely proportional to the rotational speed of the disk : the faster the disk spins, the shorter the
rotational latency.

Corporate Explosionage Attacks
Corporate espionage attacks are not necessarily committed by adversarial and friendly foreign
powers. They may also be committed by competing industrial players whose goal is to steal
technology for an upper intellectual advantage, and in doing so, undermine the victim nation s
economy. And while businesses with sensitive defense and government information capabilities are
the primary targets of foreign targeting, private organizations have also grown increasingly
vulnerable due to the vast expansion of globalization and the interconnected growth of
industrialized nations. In either scenario, foreign government or competing industry, spies achieve
their means through similar exploitation of weaknesses in technology and insider information....

What may also be corroborated is the rise in corporate espionage. What is debatable, however, are
the actual numbers. According to Bressler (2015), similar studies come to no agreeable conclusion.
There is no single source data which offers any conclusive evidence of total economic losses in
either industry or national economy. Unlike the FBI s Uniform Crime Reports, which provides a
tabulation of various types of crimes in the U.S., there is presently no accurate way to measure
corporate espionage. Companies are under no reporting mandates nor are there any qualitative
measures in place. Furthermore, there is a culture of apprehension within some organizations which
may prevent reporting espionage related incidents. Undisclosed outcomes, however, should not be
confused with complacency. There is often a reluctance across industries to implement the
necessary security precautions until after an event occurs. This could be attributed to budge
constraints or underestimating the nature of the threat. Sometimes the necessary precautions come

Essay about Two Levels of Meaning in Carver’s Cathedral
.
Two Levels of Meaning in Cathedral
The short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver develops characters with a dualistic depth. On the
surface they have believable human attitudes and attributes, but there is also a level functioning that
offers another interpretation. Carver is not only creating a realistic human picture, he uses the old
story of the deliverer and reworks it into something unique, fresh. He takes the characters and
binds them in the mind of his readers in a way that leads one to feel as though there is a deeper
level to his message.
The narrator is quite obviously the character that Carver wants us to see as figuratively blind. There
is a stark contrast in the blind man and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The wife serves as a catalyst to bring about change in this perception by welcoming her friend
into their household. Carver foreshadows that this blind man, Robert, has the power of insight
through the detail in which the tape recorded episodes are described. Before Robert is even
introduced into the dialogue the reader s view of him is the opposite that of the narrator this is
emphasized by their separate relation to the woman in the story. She becomes the object from
which the two men illustrate their approaches to life. The blind man opens himself up to her
words, thoughts, feelings and substance. The husband relies on the surface like visual clues from
her and taking things at face value. The poem that she writes about her experience with Robert is
dismissed by her husband, I can remember I didn t think much of the poem (210). When she shares
the poem with its subject communication is opens up between them. However, her role is minor in
the underlying conflict of the story, which is the juxtaposition of the values embodied by Richard
and by the narrator. Carver molds the husband into a disciple, one who is unwilling at first but
gradually shifts his ideology.
The blind man is the classic unwelcome visitor. The twist in that title is that he is also the prophet
or savior in the story as well. His qualities can be associated

The City Of A Mid Size City
The crosswalk in this city is typical of a mid size city. Small businesses line the busy street, and
with people eager to get to their destination, a combination of sights, sounds and smells unites to
form this crosswalk.
This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles.
On a sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left,
line up one after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is
filled with an array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the
edge of the crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair
is about to cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved
blouse. Some people would refer to this as business casual. Around her neck is a lanyard that
appears to be carrying an identification badge. She is holding a rolled up, brown lunch bag in her
left hand. While on her cell phone, she walks forward and looks downward as to shield her eyes.
During her walk, her hair is grazed by the wind. In the middle of the sidewalk, a thin, elderly white
man with a gray beard man is the focal point of the picture. He is wearing a brown fedora, thin
framed eyeglasses along with a brown coat, gray pants and black dress shoes. His eyes are gazing
forward as if he just locked eyes with someone from afar. Coincidentally, his body

The Construction Of The Mythical Troy In Homer s Iliad
First, the city found by the German amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in the North of
Turkey matches the description of Troy found in Homer s Iliad perfectly. For example, gates wide
enough for two chariots , described in the Iliad, were found on the site, as well as the thick walls
that could have withstand ten years of siege. However, there was some doubt about this city being
the mythical Troy, because what was found by Schliemann was far too small to endure a long
siege, but it was later discovered that what Schliemann had found was only a small fraction of this
city during the Bronze Age. This city, found at the edge of Turkey in the Aegean sea, was big
enough for two to four thousand people, proven by the ditches found by _______,

Mexican Independence from Spain
Mexican Independence from Spain
In the late 18th century, the Spanish monarchy decided to improve the defenses of its empire
because of its many military losses in Europe. Because of this, the Spanish Crown was forced to
increase revenues. Between 1765 and 1771, Spain sent JosГ© de GГЎlvez on an official tour of
inspection of New Spain. He restructured the current taxes and their collection methods..
In 1778, Spain, attempting to increase its own revenues, lifted restrictions on colonial trade. This
allowed more commerce for the colonists and allowed for more trade between the privileged of
New Spain and the other Spanish colonies in America. Since the Spanish monarchy was so
determined to improve defenses, it was forced to enlarge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many Criollos in New Spain began to read the works of the Enlightenment writers and then began to
question the benefits and reasons for their colonial relationship with Spain. The Mexican colonists
were also affected by the examples of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.
All of the aforementioned factors contributed to the independence movement of Mexico. However,
the main steps towards independence came because of Napoleon s invasion of Spain in 1808.
The monarchy was greatly weakened when Napoleon gave the crown to his brother causing the
people of Madrid to revolt. With Spain s back turned, the leaders of New Spain began to argue
amongst themselves. The viceroy was forced to allow the Criollos to participate in administration.
Then, a group of Peninsulares, those who had been placed in many of the administrative positions,
did not like that the Criollos were gaining any influence in the government. They staged a coup d
etat and overthrew the viceregal government.
Shortly before dawn on September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a monumentous
decision that revolutionized the course of Mexican history. Within hours, Hidalgo, a Catholic
priest in the village of Dolores, ordered the arrest of Dolores native Spaniards. Then Hidalgo rang
the church bell as he customarily did to call the indians to mass. The message that Hidalgo gave to
the indians and mestizos called them to retaliate against the hated Gachupines, or native

Watergate Scandal Research Paper
The discovery of a burglary that occurred in the early morning of June 17, 1972 in the Democratic
National Committee headquarters at the Watergate hotel in Washington, D.C., unleashed a series of
arrests and investigations that are known as the Watergate scandal. This incident led to the arrest of
five men, Bernard Barker, Virgilio Gonzalez, Eugenio MartГnez, James W. McCord Jr., and Frank
Sturgis who were inside the office attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents.
When these men, which were dressed in business attire and wore latex gloves, were taken into
custody they had in their possession cameras, film, tools to break in, and three pen size tear gas
guns. James W. McCord Jr. was born 1924 in Oklahoma, and after obtaining his BBA and MS
from college he began his career in the FBI and worked for the CIA, where he was responsible for
the physical security at Langley headquarters. After leaving the CIA,... Show more content on

recruited to become one of the Watergate plumbers by G. Gordon Liddy and E. Howard Hunt
but prior to this event, Martinez along with Barker had broken into the office of Dr. Lewis
Fielding, the psychologist in charge of analyzing Daniel Ellsberg. Then on June 17, 1972,
Eugenio Martinez along with the other man were arrested and taken into custody and was
sentenced to one to four years in prison, of which he only served 15 months before being paroled.
After being released he remained in Miami as a real estate agent and was eventually given a

Verbal Communication In The Movie, Psych
From this clip in the movie, Psych, we can clearly interpret some of the key characteristics of
their relationship even without any verbal communication. For example, we know that the two
people know each other by the way they stare at one another. We see that this first interaction in
the clip is a moment of disbelief as it is obvious they were not expecting to see each other. These
few seconds give us some background into their relationship and the way they view each other,
which is not all positive. By their facial expressions we also know that they both feel displeased in
this interaction. The way they lower their eyebrows and their lips gives us the indication they are
unhappy and neither of them are trying to hide this nonverbal communication.... Show more content

This is evident by the women when she looks at her watch. They also communicate some
adaptors to make them feel more comfortable in a situation that is not easy for them to handle.
The man cracks his knuckles, while the women twiddles and taps the pen on her hand. Both are
indicators of there attempt to feel more comfortable. I think one of the most prominent aspects
of this clip is the man and his refusal to tell the women she looks good. We are given the
implication of the cowboy syndrome. The man thinks highly of his status and image, and to
show signs of affection to this particular women was out of the question. He is bold in his
statement of not showing any emotion and we can tell that the women in picks up on this. She
understands his personality and the smirk on her face indicates she is not surprised by his lack
of emotion. In this movie clip the first impression we perceive is disbelieve and the impression
from the characters is that of remorse. They both obviously are regretting a decision they made to
be where they were at that time. The man nearly doesn t even bat an eye to walking away at that
very moment, but for some reason can not find it in himself to evacuate the

Toyota s Strategy Of The Ford Motor Company
Pedal Down, Pulse Up: Ford s Strategy
Cars are an indelible part of the American lifestyle and no company represents that better than the
Ford Motor Company. Ford s halo car is the Mustang: a rumble, 0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds, and the
iconic pony car look. The driver knows when they are in a Ford Mustang. Incorporated in 1903, the
Ford Motor Company is one of the largest producers of cars, trucks, and SUVs in the world,
distributing automobiles across six continents (Reuters, 2016). The Ford Motor Company has been
on the NYSE so long, its symbol is simply: F.

Advantage is what makes the company distinctive and allows the company to deliver on its
customer value proposition like no one else (Collis Rukstad, 2008). While Toyota is known for
quality and is focusing its innovation on the safety of their vehicles, Ford is hoping to gain
advantage through innovative vehicle launches and a suite of mobility services both within and
outside of the vehicles they sell.
One of Ford s strengths is the company s innovative processes, now more effective following the
launch of the One Ford Plan in 2008 (Rowland, 2015). This plan brought Ford together as one
global team and created global collaboration. While their profitability has increased since
implementation of the One Ford Plan to an operating margin of 5.4% in 2015, they have been
trending below Toyota in the few years since the global economic recovery (Appendix B).
One way Ford is trying to improve is through their platform consolidation initiative, reducing the
number of unique chassis used in production from 27 in 2007 to only nine by 2016 (Ford, 2016).
Ford configured manufacturing plants to produce a mix of models to make them responsive to
changes in consumer consumption and improve plant

Meditation Essay
Meditation is portable, profound, and powerful. It improves your life in all sorts of ways, ranging
from the spiritual to the physical.
Today I want to share about how you can take concrete and effective steps to improve your sleep
and, by extension boost your energy, through meditation
Meditation is a practice that you build incrementally over time. The more you do it, the more
natural it becomes for you. And right from the start, just a few moments of meditation can help
you fall asleep faster, as well as improving the quality of your sleep. In fact, it s quite possible that
meditation could help you feel more refreshed with fewer hours of sleep.
Here are 7 simple practices to encourage mindfulness and increase energy:
Meditation Practices ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Get in the habit of paying attention to your body. When you notice an ache or pain, try adjusting
your position to address small discomforts before they build up and interfere with your energy and
your sleep.
Let go of judgments. Meditation also helps develop a mind free from judgment. As you observe
your thoughts you notice (and reduce) negative self talk.
Identify obstacles. If some thoughts recur as you meditate, they could be trying to tell you
something. They may be issues you need to resolve so you can sleep better.
Become more mindful. Focusing on the present moment helps you stay calm. Studies show that
multi tasking erodes concentration and creates stress that contributes to insomnia.
Try Yoga or Tai chi. Exercises like these are especially helpful when you approach them as a mental
discipline as well as a physical workout. They encourage deep breathing, stress reduction and
enhanced concentration.
Use meditation to complement sleep. People who go on prolonged retreats are sometimes
surprised that meditating all day may dramatically reduce their need for sleep at night. Proceed at
your own pace to find the right combination of sleep and meditation for you. You may someday
find that your body requires less sleep as you meditate

intentionally obscured there was no shining lights on himself but instead smoke or lighting

The Early Colonial Cases In The Colonial Era In early colonial cases involving sentencing, the judges and or juries were more lenient towards white offenders more than black offenders of whom were slaves at the time. The punishments of the colonial era emulated English practices with ties to biblical references. Four cases illustrated the discrepancies involving slaves receiving harsher punishments compared to their white counterparts. In Virginia, the case of Re Davis (1630), where a white male, Hugh Davis, violated the law by sleeping with a Black woman, [with] a sentence of penance on the next Sabbath day (Gabbidon Greene, 2015, pg. 182). • 3. Relationship Between Rising Us Unemployment and the... Is there a relationship between rising US unemployment and the rise of the Canadian dollar? Canada s financial stability depends on the health of America s economy, as international trade accounts for 45% of Canada s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and 79% of exports are to the United States. Canadian and American unemployment rates are positively correlated for that reason, as exemplified in early 2009. Canada s unemployment rate quickly steepened as the United States rate gradually increased to about 10% (refer to graph 1 and 2). During this time, Canada s growing trade surplus became a deficit in only a few months (refer to graph 3). From this data, one can determine that Canada s exports decreased rapidly due to rising economic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although lower interest rates can improve domestic spending, it will discourage foreign investors because the return on their investments decreases. As of September 2011, the US interest rate is close to 0% and Canada s rate is at 1% as determined by the Bank of Canada. Low interest rates indicate that the US is in poor financial health. More countries will want to invest in Canada if the US is in a risky financial situation and additionally, provides low returns. The value of the Canadian dollar rises when demand increases. Due to America s increasing government debt and declining interest rates, Canada s economy is comparatively more stable. Canada s credit rating is currently higher than America s. A credit rating indicates the financial health of a country and how large the risk is for lenders to invest. Standard and Poor s, a credit rating agency, currently downgraded America s rating to AA+ from the highest score of AAA. The downgrade was a result of the U.S. s increasing debt from the recession. Canada s credit rating is still the highest at triple A because of the country s stability. Canada is more attractive to invest in, as there are solid returns on the interest rates and low risk for lenders. Increased demand in Canadian assets can result in a higher exchange rate. Investors want to put money into a country where they believe it is a safe haven. Although Canada can become more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Shoe Dog Chapter Summary The book I read was Shoe Dog by Phil Knight, and it goes through the story on some of his life focusing mostly on the founding of one of the most famous shoe companies in the world, Nike. Phil Knight was a 24 year old man who had just returned home to Oregon after graduating with a master s from Stanford and serving in the US Army for a year. He was a very good runner growing up and even ran at a high level at the University of Oregon in his undergrad days, but was never good enough to be elite. One day during a run he formulated an idea in his mind about running shoes and it never left him. During an entrepreneurial class he was taking at Stanford he came up with a complete business model and presented it to the class as a school project. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The shoes never came, and after waiting around long enough Knight returned to work, taking a job at an accounting firm. Then finally, after a year since he was in Japan, the shoes arrived. This was one of the first times I felt that Knight was going on the right path because the first thing he did when he got his shoes was send a couple pairs of them to his legendary track coach from the University of Oregon, Bill Bowerman. Impressed with the shoes, Bowerman wanted in on the deal and they became partners in a 51 49 split, giving Knight control of his company. The first order of 300 shoes was paid for thanks to a loan from Knight s father and it was confirmed that Knight would be the distributor for the Japanese shoes in the West. He immediately quit his accounting job and began selling the shoes from his car. This was bad communication on Knights part in regard to being now known as the distributor in the west because he never got a full contract in writing. The way he marketed and tried to get the people on board was amazing; with himself being in the running game he could go to all the track and field meets to talk to all the people there. • 5. The Debate Over Embryonic Stem Cells Over 100 million Americans suffer from diseases that eventually may be treated more effectively or even cured with embryonic stem cell therapy. Some researchers regard this as the greatest potential for the alleviation of human suffering since the advent of antibiotics (White). However, not everybody agrees with this. While embryonic stem cells offer much hope for medical advancement because of their ability to grow into almost any kind of cell, the moral debate of the destruction of an embryo continues. Embryonic stem cells are taken directly from an embryo before the embryo s cells begin to develop into their specific cells. While there may be promise of embryonic stem cells triggering medical advancements, the ongoing controversy continues to hinder research. Embryonic stem cells can be defined as blank cells that have not yet been categorized or programmed by the body, and can be prompted to generate any of the 220 human cell types. (White). Because of this reason, these cells are extremely flexible; in cancer treatment, cells destroyed by chemotherapy or radiation can be replaced with new cells that adapt to any body tissue, whether it s in the heart, lungs, brain, etc. Dead cells of almost any kind can be replaced with new stem cells. These stem cells are harvested when the embryo is referred to as a blastocyst, which is what some consider when life begins which is also where the controversy begins. Those who support embryonic stem cellresearch believe that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

State appropriations to universities are down and are not as much as they once were in the past. University Funding Issues Funding colleges and universities has become a crisis for the higher education system in America. The higher education funding issue is not caused by one issue but rather multiple issues like endowment losses, falling investments, declining donations, declining state appropriations, and increased student financial aid which leads to a decreased tuition revenue (Weisbrod Asch, 2010). Some of these funding issues create other funding issues like an increase in tuition revenue that creates an increase in student financial aid and then decreases the tuition revenue resulting in lower funds for the institution. Since the economic downturn in 2007 and 2008 and even before then, there has been a decline in state appropriations to public colleges and universities (Weisbrod Asch, 2010). • 15. The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster... Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half Indian foster child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations. Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a broomstick (pg. 9). Therefore, his name reveals how he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With no background on the individual responsible for the mural it is difficult to know if he carries any clout in the political or sociocultural world. Banksy is known to be somewhat of a socialistic democrat, as implied by the genre of his art, but otherwise there is no information given to assess his credibility. Given that Banksy is quite popular and well known, his reputation reinforces his credibility as an opinionated street artist, but not as a credible resource in regards to immigration policy and government aid. Banksy s affinity towards political and socially controversial art makes it easy to understand his interests in issues surrounding the treatment of migrants, refugees, and humanitarianism. However, his expertise in the subject is made even less reliable due to the lack of relevance Steve Jobs has with the actual situation. For example, Steve Jobs was the son of a migrant and not a migrant himself and he was adopted and had never met his migrant father therefore he is not an accurate representative for refugees or migrants. Banksy s visual appeal to ethos is virtually non existent for those unfamiliar with his works. The ideal feminine varies by society, culture and even era. According to _____, femininity or masculinity is based on what society considers to be valuable. In Marie de France s Lanval femininity in its most ideal form, is based on exterior qualities such as a beautiful face and thin body as well as a womans willingness to give her body and love to a man to use at his disposal. These two qualities are exhibited by the woman in poem, making her valuable and desired by society, but specifically Lanval who falls in love with her. But on the other hand, TSA itself is the operator of the largest component of airport security: passenger and baggage screening. The conflict of interest for the TSA lies in the screening of passengers and baggage. The airport has responsibility for all other phases of security, such as, access control, perimeter control, lobby control. The airport is responsible for these things but standards are upheld under TSA supervision. However, for the screening of persons and objects the TSA conducts the screening and regulates itself. God has four different attributes, he is omniscient, simple, eternal and omnipotent. The latter raises some difficulties, and paradoxes. In a first part I will show how omnipotence can be defined differently, how radical omnipotence differs with limited omnipotence and the issue with logic. Then I will show how Gods omnipotence raises some paradoxes and contradictions, by relying on the paradox of the stone and the problem of evil. (Mackie, 1955)The claim that evil is necessary as a counterpart to good (Mackie, 1955, p.203) errs, indeed we can again assert that as God made the laws of logic it would be possible for only good to exist in the world. Nevertheless the existence of evil in the world is required to prove what good really is. Without evil, everything, every actions are considered good. But if good is everywhere, it becomes difficult to measure it, and we cannot compare it with other actions. To be good is to possess and display moral virtue, but how can we do that if evil does not exist ? Good has to be opposed to evil, for it to exist. It then does not distract it with God s omnipotence. Mackie (1955) reckons that first order evil such as pain and misery contrasts with first order good pleasure and happiness . Moreover a second order good such as sympathy can only exist if there is a second order evil suffering , similarly with heroism in facing danger (Mackie, 1955, p.206). But according to Mackie this claim fails, in fact the second order evil that is cowardice or cruelty (Mackie, 1955, p.207) is rising as much as another second order good. And if God were omnipotent and morally good he would try and eliminate those evils. One era that is known for outside events influencing the writing of the time is the post modern era. The start of the post modern era took place in the year 1945. This era took rise after two major historical events in America s history, the Holocaust and the dropping of the atomic bombs on two Japanese cities. Once World War II was over, Americans wanted to return to normal life. However, with the desire to return to normal, Americans in the 1950 s had a hard time determining what they would consider normal. One early post modern author, Carson McCullers, focused her writing on the feeling of isolation and loneliness that American citizens were facing at the time. Carson McCullers s novels and short stories contain themes of isolation, death, hope, and dark humor, which are all symbolic of the hardships humans faced in the post modern time period and her own personal trials. Works of literature from the post modern era contain similar characteristics. Post modern authors usually include irony, dark humor, bisexuality, hope, isolation, and historical events in their writing. Difference Between A Pert And Gantt Chart Compare and contrast the information that one receives from a Gantt chart, versus that of a PERT diagram A significant piece of project management is organization. Both Pert and Gantt charts are essential tools that are utilized by project managers in creating a project schedule. Both types of charts offer tools for managers to examine projects through visualization, helping divide responsibilities into controllable parts. An important difference between a PERT chart and a Gantt chart is the way the information is presented. Gantt charts display information in the design of a bar chart. This representation helps show the percentage of work accomplished for each task. On the other hand, PERT shows data as a network model. Meaning that a PERT chart displays an earlier node from which tasks branch out. This helps project managers envision the arrangement of tasks. Together PERT and Gantt charts will show the tasks to be accomplished, but the charts highlight dissimilar parts. A Gantt chart s primary focus is on the ratio completion of each task, without indicating the connection that two tasks may have to each other. While PERT typically does not show the percentage completed, PERT employs a network model, which makes it is easy to see which tasks depend on each other, it typically does not show the percentage of completed tasks. And while businesses with sensitive defense and government information capabilities are the primary targets of foreign targeting, private organizations have also grown increasingly vulnerable due to the vast expansion of globalization and the interconnected growth of industrialized nations. In either scenario, foreign government or competing industry, spies achieve their means through similar exploitation of weaknesses in technology and insider information.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What may also be corroborated is the rise in corporate espionage. What is debatable, however, are the actual numbers. According to Bressler (2015), similar studies come to no agreeable conclusion. There is no single source data which offers any conclusive evidence of total economic losses in either industry or national economy. Unlike the FBI s Uniform Crime Reports, which provides a tabulation of various types of crimes in the U.S., there is presently no accurate way to measure corporate espionage. Companies are under no reporting mandates nor are there any qualitative measures in place. Furthermore, there is a culture of apprehension within some organizations which may prevent reporting espionage related incidents. Undisclosed outcomes, however, should not be confused with complacency. There is often a reluctance across industries to implement the necessary security precautions until after an event occurs. This could be attributed to budge constraints or underestimating the nature of the threat. Sometimes the necessary precautions come only after an event in which the organization suffers an insurmountable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 43. Essay about Two Levels of Meaning in Carver’s Cathedral . Two Levels of Meaning in Cathedral The short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver develops characters with a dualistic depth. On the surface they have believable human attitudes and attributes, but there is also a level functioning that offers another interpretation. Carver is not only creating a realistic human picture, he uses the old story of the deliverer and reworks it into something unique, fresh. He takes the characters and binds them in the mind of his readers in a way that leads one to feel as though there is a deeper level to his message. The wife serves as a catalyst to bring about change in this perception by welcoming her friend into their household. Carver foreshadows that this blind man, Robert, has the power of insight through the detail in which the tape recorded episodes are described. Before Robert is even introduced into the dialogue the reader s view of him is the opposite that of the narrator this is emphasized by their separate relation to the woman in the story. She becomes the object from which the two men illustrate their approaches to life. The blind man opens himself up to her words, thoughts, feelings and substance. The husband relies on the surface like visual clues from her and taking things at face value. The poem that she writes about her experience with Robert is dismissed by her husband, I can remember I didn t think much of the poem (210). When she shares the poem with its subject communication is opens up between them. However, her role is minor in the underlying conflict of the story, which is the juxtaposition of the values embodied by Richard and by the narrator. Carver molds the husband into a disciple, one who is unwilling at first but gradually shifts his ideology. The blind man is the classic unwelcome visitor. The twist in that title is that he is also the prophet or savior in the story as well. His qualities can be associated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The City Of A Mid Size City The crosswalk in this city is typical of a mid size city. Small businesses line the busy street, and with people eager to get to their destination, a combination of sights, sounds and smells unites to form this crosswalk. This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles. On a sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left, line up one after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is filled with an array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the edge of the crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair is about to cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved blouse. Some people would refer to this as business casual. Around her neck is a lanyard that appears to be carrying an identification badge. She is holding a rolled up, brown lunch bag in her left hand. While on her cell phone, she walks forward and looks downward as to shield her eyes. During her walk, her hair is grazed by the wind. In the middle of the sidewalk, a thin, elderly white man with a gray beard man is the focal point of the picture. He is wearing a brown fedora, thin framed eyeglasses along with a brown coat, gray pants and black dress shoes. His eyes are gazing forward as if he just locked eyes with someone from afar. The Construction Of The Mythical Troy In Homer s Iliad First, the city found by the German amateur archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann in the North of Turkey matches the description of Troy found in Homer s Iliad perfectly. For example, gates wide enough for two chariots , described in the Iliad, were found on the site, as well as the thick walls that could have withstand ten years of siege. However, there was some doubt about this city being the mythical Troy, because what was found by Schliemann was far too small to endure a long siege, but it was later discovered that what Schliemann had found was only a small fraction of this city during the Bronze Age. Many Criollos in New Spain began to read the works of the Enlightenment writers and then began to question the benefits and reasons for their colonial relationship with Spain. The Mexican colonists were also affected by the examples of the American Revolution and the French Revolution. All of the aforementioned factors contributed to the independence movement of Mexico. However, the main steps towards independence came because of Napoleon s invasion of Spain in 1808. The monarchy was greatly weakened when Napoleon gave the crown to his brother causing the people of Madrid to revolt. With Spain s back turned, the leaders of New Spain began to argue amongst themselves. The viceroy was forced to allow the Criollos to participate in administration. Then, a group of Peninsulares, those who had been placed in many of the administrative positions, did not like that the Criollos were gaining any influence in the government. They staged a coup d etat and overthrew the viceregal government.
