Grandmother Interview
I interview my maternal great grandmother, Jane Franklin. She is 81 years old and she was born in
Shelter Island, Long Island, NY. She currently lives in Aiken, SC, but she just recently moved from
Chula Vista, CA. Both of her grandparents were born in New York. Her mother was born in Aiken,
SC, and her father was born in Corona, Queens, NY. She grew up in New York City with her mother,
sister, and brother in an urban setting. Many African American families also lived in their neighbors
Their daily routine consisted of the mother going to do housework for other families and her dad
working at the post office while my great grandmother and her siblings went to public school.

Although we were not as well off as we are now, we were still better off than they were. We could
afford most of the foods we wanted as well as items not deemed as necessities. I also am not as
religious as my great grandmother. I do not consider myself a Christian. I would love to learn about
other religions before I label myself. My family understands this, and they do not pressure me into
being a Christian. I still grew up going to a Christian church throughout my childhood. Another
difference is that my parents have stayed together throughout my childhood and remain together now.
Her father and mother got a divorce, and was not living with them. Like my great grandmother, I am
an African American woman. I live in a happy and loving household. I was discipline the same ways
she was. Our family also still enjoys the major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Even
though now our family is not in one single state, we still try to see them at least once or twice a year.
There are some obvious differences in the way my great grandmother and I were brought up. There
are some things that are alike. But, there are similarities and differences in the way each generation is
brought up. Especially with technology improving and becoming a large part of our lives. I believe
being brought up differently makes us the people we are today. Nevertheless, I love her with all my
heart and I know she feels the

Masada Research Paper
Introduction The fortress of Masada plays a very large part of Jewish history. Masada comes from the
Hebrew word mazuda . The translation for the word mazuda means stronghold or fortress. The
historical events that took place at the Masada help us understand the history, life and the deaths at the
Masada.
History of Masada The Masada was built by King Herod prior to the Zealots capturing it. King Herod
built this fortress which included palaces, swimming pools and bathhouses. The Masada is located on
a very steep and isolated mountaintop. Masada overlooked the Dead Sea. Galileo and Jerusalem can
be seen from within the walls of the Masada. Long after King Herod reign, in 73 AD, the Romans and
Jews were fighting. After the Romans destroyed the Jewish temples and the city of Jerusalem, a group
of Jewish people called the Zealots, captured and took over the Masada. The Zealots were the first
Jewish people to revolt against Roman rule. This is the first revolt of its kind. Based on prophecies
from the bible, if the Jewish people didn t follow Gods word, bad things would happen. In Luke 19:
41 44 it states Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed because of the rejection of Jesus as
the Messiah . Although some Jewish people did believe in the Messiah most did not. ... Show more

The Romans used battering rams to break through the Masada s defense. This method didn t not work
as well as they hoped. The Romans set fire to a wall the Zealots had built for extra protection. Once
the Romans breached the massive walls of the Masada, they found that all of the Zealots had killed
themselves, it was a gruesome site. The Romans also discovered that some of the ceilings wooden
beams were gingerly dismantled, most likely to be used as extra defense by the Zealots. The Romans
also discovered that the Jews left food out before they killed themselves to let the Romans know that
they did not die of

Examples Of Compromise Dbq
Compromise Essay To what extent was the United States from 1774 1865 an example of successful
compromise? Compromises are a very important part of American History. The Three Fifths
Compromise of 1787 is one of many. To whom it may concern, America was a huge example of
Compromise. To quote Kenneth C. Davis, We wouldn t be here as a country without that...
Washington D.C as a city wouldn t exist without compromise (Doc. J). The 3 ways America was
successful with Compromise from 1774 1865 were with Amendments, Slavery, and The Constitution.
To begin, Amendments are a form of successful compromise because it s a group decision. Everyone
needs to agree on the choice of correction. If the people who created the Amendments didn t agree, we
wouldn t have them today. This proves they were a success. George Washington urged congress in his
first inaugural address to propose amendments that offered a reference for the characteristic rights of
freemen and a regard for public harmony. (Doc. B) The harmony in this quote is saying that the public
should live in agreement with each other. Thomas Jefferson, the U.S minister to France at the time,
wrote James Madison that he was concerned about the omission, of a bill of rights ... providing clearly
for freedom of religion, freedom of the press, protection against standing armies, and restrictions
against monopolies(Doc. B). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Accounting Admission Essay Sample
For me accounting is personal. As an immigrant, life has seldom been easy. It has been marked by
continuous sacrifice, unfamiliar settings, and unnerving trials. From an early age I witnessed my
parents painstakingly keep track of their income and expenses in order to make ends meet. Such trying
moments were the early signs of my inclination towards accounting. In essence, these painful
experiences stirred something within me, something that culminated into a passion. After exposure to
numerous accountants and academic courses, I was firmly convinced accounting was my calling. In
pursuing my calling, I attended Miami Dade Honors College and earned an Associate of Arts Degree
in Accounting. Afterwards, I transferred to Florida International University, where I hope to acquire
my Bachelor of Accounting in April 2018. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they would do it a second time because when they were standing still for hours they could pass out or

Corruption In Oryx And Crake
The world is a terrifying place. This harsh reality has been hammered into the malleable minds of
children and all of societies. Due to the amount of misdeeds on Earth, ultimately the people who
possess the luxury to escape the vices of mankind will tend to be ignorant toward those problems and
instead focus on themselves. Because of the segregation, there will eventually going to be a lack of
regulation controlling those sins. In Mary Atwood s future dystopian novel, Oryx and Crake, the
author presents how corruption reigns supreme in one of the most controversial human issues, human
and sex trafficking. The amount of victims in this terrible multi billionaire syndicate never seem to

The recruiters notice the terrible living conditions in rural areas, and act as a beacon of hope towards
those civilians. As a basic summary for how they lure them in, the Deshpande and Nour answer Sex
traffickers may often approach families living in poverty and seek to purchase girls, boys or young
women with the promise of a better life in a richer nation. (2). This strongly parallels with Atwood s
depiction of this ethical dilemma. The way one of the recruiters, who the readers eventually come to
learn that his name is Uncle En, approaches Oryx s village in a trusting manner. In the Oryx chapter,
she recounts that He was the villagers bank, their insurance policy, their kind rich uncle, their only
charm against bad luck. And he had been needed more and more often because the weather had
become so strange and could no longer be predicted...and the crops were suffering (118). The fashion
of how he befriended Oryx s shantytown seems to be of wholesome purity and kindness. Not only was
he the villagers bank but he was also the kind rich uncle . The villagers ultimately respected him
because he provided them hope for them to proper despite their social standing. It is like he is the hero
that the village needs. Yet, he understands that the town is gradually becoming more reliant on him
because of the terrible weather that is eradicating their source of income, the crops. Uncle En, like
modern traffickers today, take this as an initiative to gather in the children into their organization.
They prey upon the poor stricken people not in a belligerent way, they strategically interact with them
in a innocuous yet manipulative way. The way these employers act around their future employees
strike a similar connection with the world today. According to Standiford, Traffickers and/ or pimps

Analysis Of George Miller s Mad Max
Succeeding to composers Brian May and Maurice Jarre to score George Miller s fourth Mad Max film
Mad Max: Fury Road . Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) delivered a score that mix new technologies
and techniques with vintage scores cliches. Tom Holkenborg is a composer from the Netherland who
has had a number of hits as a solo artist in the music electronic scene back in the late 90s and more
this last decade for his work on film scores with his mentor Hans Zimmer. The pair have provided the
scores for some of Hollywood s biggest recent blockbusters counting 300: Rise of an Empire , Man of
Steel and The Dark Knight Rises among others. Certainly in Holkenborg s score for Mad Max: Fury
Road we can hear an emulation of Zimmer sound . Zimmer create simple thematic sequence that he
would repeat and make evolve all along the movie. He s also especially famous for blending electronic
music sounds using computers and/or combination of synthesizers with traditional orchestral
arrangements. He is particularly adept at blending diverse styles into a musical fusion of classical, pop
and world music. His style is very much to create simple thematic material, and then give them the
Zimmer treatment to craft them into highly effective pieces of film music embodying the mood of a
film, such that music and movie complement perfectly. (Paterson, 2016) Holkenborg had a clear major
vision for the score. He wanted to create an insane apocalyptic rock opera that has to be over the top

Substance Abuse In Canada
The results of the government s efforts to assimilate Aboriginal people throughout Canada s history
has effected multiple generations of families and continues to have devastating effects on First Nations
communities today. It was under Prime Minister Sir John A MacDonald, in 1880, that the plan to
assimilate was first launched. Indigenous people were commonly disregarded and referred to as
savages, and considered to be uncivilized. During 1913 1934, Duncan Campbell Scott was the Deputy
Superintendent of Indian Affairs. Scott, now considered to be one of the worst Canadians of all times,

deeper into the roles that ethics and morals play in society today.
There are ethical and moral dilemmas that the characters face and for that historical and social time
period there were viable solutions. There are moral values that guide the characters and historical
experiences that shaped them. After a brief summary I will show two moral dilemmas, their outcome

The Ottoman Hexagonal Tile With Floral Pattern
The Ottoman Hexagonal Tile with Floral Pattern is located in the Art from Islamic Lands gallery, in
room 2550, on the second floor of the Arthur M. Sackler Museum on the Harvard University Campus.
The object number is 1960.102. It is located with a series of Ottoman tiles on the easternmost wall of
the one room gallery. The tile, created between 1520 and 1540, is from Ä°znik, Turkey. It is composed
of fritware ceramic painted underglaze. The base of the tile is a white underglaze glaze, and all
decoration is in various shades of blue underglaze. The shape is a hexagon with a circular,
symmetrical floral pattern derived from a central focal point. This tile had meticulous work put into its
design, showing the concern of its artist to emulate cultural tradition and destiny on a single ceramic
hexagon.
Fritware is a form of pottery where frit is added to the clay in order to lower the necessary fusion
temperature. This version of ceramics was popular in Ä°znik, Turkey, the leading producer of decorative
tiles during the Ottoman Empire. Underglaze is a technique in which decoration is painted to the piece
before it is glazed. However, underglaze uses certain pigments derived from oxides that fuse with the
glaze, thus restricting the color palette. The original color found to work by the Chinese was cobalt
blue, and this is present on the Ottoman tile. In addition, the Ä°znik factories used turquoise, purple,
green and red in later years. Because this tile is from the earlier part

The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue them.
In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to
describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others.
The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the
speaker s own views about the world.
Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is
accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red
balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can
shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the
audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and the juggler evokes
happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an
insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s
life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader how the
juggler is performing, the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on
his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see that as the juggler is
performing his great trick the crowd is excited and amazed at what he is accomplishing through his
performance when the author says, Damn, what a show, we cry... (line 21). Having the crowd cheer at
the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing act showed that the juggler was able to bring
happiness and amazement with the many tricks he was able to perform for the crowd.
As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to move
around his body. In the poem, Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show how the
balls move by the tricks the juggler does. For example, Wilbur says, The balls roll around, wheel on
his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to
their course

Canada is a state run system of public education provided, funded and overseen by federal, provincial,

French Revolution Turning Point Essay
This was a turning point in the revolution, when the government lost most of its control over the
population. Rights of Man and Citizen was also adopted to forestall the violence, as work on a
Constitution slowly began. August 27, 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was
adopted by the National Constituent Assembly (History.com). These Enlightenment ideas such as
freedom of speech were radical at that time. The declaration professed its commitment to discard the
archaic ancien regime with a new order. This new government would be established on freedom of
speech, equal opportunity, representative government and popular sovereignty (History.com).
However, this was not completely followed through on. Drafting the constitution ... Show more

War was declared on Austria and Prussia in 1972 by the new legislative Assembly (History.com). They
believed that French emigres were arranging regressive counter revolutionary alliances. By declaring
war they also hoped to spread their ideals across Europe, forcibly (History.com). This was a glimpse
of the insanity that the new government was going to bring to France. In the heart of France the revolt
had gripped the nation, as the political disaster took an extreme turn. This occurred when a rising
group of insurgents, led by a radical group called the Jacobins, attacked the royal residence at the
Tuileries Palace (History.com). They seized the king and his family on August 10,1792 during this
raid. During the following month, Parisians revolutionaries murdered hundreds of accused counter
revolutionaries, during a surge of violence. At this stage the old government had lost all power of
command and they were simply trying to save themselves from the mess they had made. The
legislative Assembly was replaced by a new institution that commanded the abolition of the monarchy
and the formation of the French Republic. This organization was named the National

Racial Profiling And The Inner City
there is... no indication that the problematic culture of the inner city is the direct result of institutional
racism and governmental neglect as manifest in employment and housing discrimination, the
proliferation of firearms, the abandonment of public education, the War on Drugs, racial profiling, and
mass incarceration. Rather than publicly make such arguments about the roots of Black American
suffering, Obama has repeatedly argued for an increased sense of personal responsibility... Such calls
may be well intentioned, but when emphasis is placed on social and personal choice instead of racism
as a political force that restricts choice, victim blaming prevents problem solving ( Where ya at? 318).
We can surmise, then, that Obama s image is directly related to the notion of the post racial through
his failure to explicitly discuss racism, which in turn, affects how notions of race and raciality are
conceived and discussed in the American socio political landscape as a whole; in contrast, hip hop is
in a position to deal more explicitly with race and racism. As Jeffries argues, Poverty, disorder, and
ghetto culture are central to analyses of hip hop meaning, thanks to the symbolic importance of the
ghetto as an element of hip hop authenticity and the historical importance of neglected urban space as
the birthplace of hip hop culture (Thug Life 28). Thus, hip hop remains firmly rooted in traditionally
Black spaces and experiences which lends hip hop and rap artists the

Essay on Robert Frost Mending Wall
It is no secret how Robert Frost feels about walls after reading his poem Mending Wall . To say that
Frost admired and favored walls would be a lie. On the contrary, based on his poem it is apparent that
he would prefer there be no walls present. I was led to ask myself, what type of wall is Frost referring
to? It is not merely a physical wall made of stone, but a barrier that people place among each other to
create an illusion of separation and protection. The style of the poem makes it simple to read, however
when you take a closer look into the poem, you discover a whole new meaning. Frost uses a variety of
techniques throughout his poem such as metaphor, symbolism and imagery to help us understand his
feelings and how those feelings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Isn t it/ where there are cows? But there are no cows here (Line 29 31). Ironically he also states, I have
come after them and make repair/ where they have left not one stone on a stone (Line 6 7). He is
otherwise saying that although he feels the repairing of the wall is unnecessary, in order to maintain
peace between his neighbor he will rebuild the unnecessary wall. It would make sense to simply have
Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to, indicating that he too
finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I noticed about the style of the
poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at sideways gave the illusion of a wall
with gaps. It is a series of lines which become a poem that is written as a blank verse iambic
pentameter. Each line consists of ten syllables with the exception of Lines 8, 16, 24, 26, 27, 28, 37, 43,
45, which contain eleven syllables. At first glance it is easy to overlook this detail, but once it is noted
the question arises, what is the significance in these particular lines? In lines 26 and 45 the neighbor
says to Frost, Good fences make good neighbors , we also learn in line 43 that, He (the neighbor) will
not go behind his father s saying . These particular lines are important because they help us to
understand that the presence of the wall is something that was instilled in the neighbor. By taking note
that the mending of the wall

Leadership Styles In Nursing Leadership Style
Leadership comes in many forms, and some think that leaders are made rather than born
(Amanchukwu, Stanley, Ololube, 2015). Problems are constantly arising in the nursing setting and
must require a certain skill set in order for leaders to conquer these issues. In the past papers, nurse
Stacie lacked the resources of a good leader to guide her towards her own leadership style. During her
day as a charge nurse, Stacie allowed a more experienced nurse who was ranked below her that day, to
overpower her authority. Consequently, a baby died because Stacie did not intervene when the
situation presented itself. However, if Stacie had a strong leader supporting her, she may have
acquired the skills to speak up and exert her own leadership skills, while addressing the unfortunate
issue in her unit. This paper will compare relevant leadership styles that will address this problem that
Stacie incurred. Along with a detailed explanation of how this style of leadership could help solve this
nursing problem. Furthermore, legislation and health care policies will further the cause with tools to
help solve and manage problems seen in the hospital setting.
Nursing Leadership Styles Although there are numerous leadership styles to explore when discussing
the issue Stacie had to deal with in her unit, the style that addresses this type of issue the closest is the
Servant Leader. This type of leadership is the least conspicuous as they act like a servant to their
followers.

Risk And Valuation Of The Pharmaceutical And Health- Care...
IV Risk and valuation a. Risk The company has traditionally made strategic acquisitions of businesses
in the pharmaceutical and health care industry in order to obtain desired patents for research, gain
more market powers or expand to a new market. Therefore, there is no doubt if Johnson and Johnson
will continue to acquire more firms in the future. As a reference, in only one year of 2013, the
company completed the acquisitions of Aragon Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held, pharmaceutical
development business focused on drugs to treat hormonally driven cancers, Flexible Stenting
Solutions, Inc., a leading developer of innovative flexible peripheral arterial, venous and biliary stents
and Shanghai Elsker Mother Baby Co., Ltd, a baby care company in China. These acquisitions, along
with the Alios BioPharma s acquisition which will be expected to be complete during the last quarter
of 2014, involve challenges and risks. In the event that the company does not successfully integrate
these acquisitions into their existing operations so as to realize the expected return on their investment,
their results of operations, cash flow or financial condition could be adversely affected. Also there are
risks and uncertainties associated with the company s expansion into their operations in Asia, Latin
America, Caribbean and other foreign markets could adversely affect their results of operations, cash
flow, liquidity or financial condition. Fluctuations in foreign currency

Microbiota Controls The Homeostasis Of Glial Cells
Cristiaan Ciarlo
Bio 328
Summary: The article titled: Microbiota Controls the Homeostasis of Glial Cells in the Gut Lamina
Propria assessed the varying conditions in which Microbiota within the developing digestive tract can
influence the process of network formation of the certain aspects of the enteric nervous system. The
enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own nervous
system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important biological findings
presented in the article concerning the ENS.
The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in the
lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this
population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This
occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and
subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented to
the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of
microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that the
gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the primary
focus in the article.
The article noted that there were questions that arose regarding the development of this specific

Women s Rights
While there have been many breakthroughs, in today s society, women are still struggling to get the
treatment they deserve and the equality they want in the workplace. Over the years, many women
have fought for their rights and we can see how much their effort has paid off with the rights we have
now. Three Acts that have revolutionized women s workplace rights are the Family and Medical Leave
Act, the Equal Pay Act, and the Pregnancy Discrimination Act.
Surprisingly, not many women, or people in general, know what the Family and Medical Leave Act
really is. They do not know if their employer is authorized to grant this type of leave, and they do not
know if they are eligible to use the leave granted by the Act. So what is the Family and Medical ...

pay, and other benefits. Scott also states that women who are being interviewed for a certain job are
not obligated, under any circumstance, to make it known to their potential employer that they are, or
are planning to become pregnant. She also makes it known that the Pregnancy Discrimination Act
only covers workplaces that have 15 or more employees, and that you should check with the Women s

Ropes Courses Experience
My experience of going to the ropes course was very enjoyable because it was a change of scenery
from the college life and I got to be with the people who I first met here when I got to Elon. Since the
ropes course adventure was later in the year, compared to others, we sort of already had a strong bond
as a group. For me, it was amazing to see how far we have come as a group and as individuals since
we have arrived at Elon. I remember when we all first met and barely knew each other s names and
now we were able to trust one another while being blindfolded at the ropes course. While at the ropes
course, I learned to traits about myself that I sort of already knew. One trait being that I tend to let
other people be creative with their idea making to solve the issue at hand. I tend to put that action to
work, but I don t usually come up with the plan. Even before the ropes course, I knew I wasn t really
an outgoing individual, so I would let other people take charge of the situation. So for example, when
we were trying to figure out how to fit everybody on the box, I kept quiet for the most part and let the
others brainstorm, but I made sure my full effort was put in when it came to the actual part ... Show

there could have been some awkwardness since we still didn t know each other very well. In general, I
think Elon should continue to plan these types of events for the orientation groups because you create
a strong bond with your group that will not be forgotten through my four years at

Racism In Cry The Beloved Country
Luke 6:35 declares, But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and
your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and
evil (English Standard Version).Christians should strive to treat others in this way always.
Unfortunately, society fails to follow this verse in the present times as well as the past. Not only does
racism and prejudice occur in the United States, but South Africa as well. Alan Paton illustrated the
unjust in the novel Cry the Beloved Country. James Jarvis is a white, wealthy, Christian farmer that
lives on a hill above Ndotsheni, a town where native South Africans reside and are impoverished.
Jarvis s outlook on the natives became negative. Many events occur, and Jarvis experiences a change
within himself and starts loving the natives how the Bible says Christians should. Mr. Jarvis sinned
against the natives for majority of his life by judging them. It takes a moment of realization to push
him to come to a different outlook on those around him. Mr. Jarvis s thoughts about the natives of
South Africa that are incorrect. Ironically, his son, Arthur Jarvis thoughts pushed him to analyze things
and change some of the ways he lived. Because Mr. Jarvis s did not contain much knowledge on the
everyday life of the natives, his outlook on them became negative. Mr. Jarvis s negative outlook on the
natives consists of his belief that the natives were, ignorant, and knew nothing

  • 4. Grandmother Interview I interview my maternal great grandmother, Jane Franklin. She is 81 years old and she was born in Shelter Island, Long Island, NY. She currently lives in Aiken, SC, but she just recently moved from Chula Vista, CA. Both of her grandparents were born in New York. Her mother was born in Aiken, SC, and her father was born in Corona, Queens, NY. She grew up in New York City with her mother, sister, and brother in an urban setting. Although we were not as well off as we are now, we were still better off than they were. We could afford most of the foods we wanted as well as items not deemed as necessities. I also am not as religious as my great grandmother. I do not consider myself a Christian. I would love to learn about other religions before I label myself. My family understands this, and they do not pressure me into being a Christian. I still grew up going to a Christian church throughout my childhood. Another difference is that my parents have stayed together throughout my childhood and remain together now. Her father and mother got a divorce, and was not living with them. Like my great grandmother, I am an African American woman. I live in a happy and loving household. I was discipline the same ways she was. Our family also still enjoys the major holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Even though now our family is not in one single state, we still try to see them at least once or twice a year. There are some obvious differences in the way my great grandmother and I were brought up. There are some things that are alike. But, there are similarities and differences in the way each generation is brought up. Especially with technology improving and becoming a large part of our lives. I believe being brought up differently makes us the people we are today. Nevertheless, I love her with all my heart and I know she feels the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Masada Research Paper Introduction The fortress of Masada plays a very large part of Jewish history. Masada comes from the Hebrew word mazuda . The translation for the word mazuda means stronghold or fortress. The historical events that took place at the Masada help us understand the history, life and the deaths at the Masada. History of Masada The Masada was built by King Herod prior to the Zealots capturing it. King Herod built this fortress which included palaces, swimming pools and bathhouses. The Masada is located on a very steep and isolated mountaintop. Masada overlooked the Dead Sea. Galileo and Jerusalem can be seen from within the walls of the Masada. Long after King Herod reign, in 73 AD, the Romans and Jews were fighting. After the Romans destroyed the Jewish temples and the city of Jerusalem, a group of Jewish people called the Zealots, captured and took over the Masada. The Zealots were the first Jewish people to revolt against Roman rule. This is the first revolt of its kind. Based on prophecies from the bible, if the Jewish people didn t follow Gods word, bad things would happen. In Luke 19: 41 44 it states Jesus prophesied that Jerusalem would be destroyed because of the rejection of Jesus as the Messiah . • 6. Examples Of Compromise Dbq Compromise Essay To what extent was the United States from 1774 1865 an example of successful compromise? Compromises are a very important part of American History. The Three Fifths Compromise of 1787 is one of many. To whom it may concern, America was a huge example of Compromise. To quote Kenneth C. Davis, We wouldn t be here as a country without that... Washington D.C as a city wouldn t exist without compromise (Doc. J). The 3 ways America was successful with Compromise from 1774 1865 were with Amendments, Slavery, and The Constitution. To begin, Amendments are a form of successful compromise because it s a group decision. Everyone needs to agree on the choice of correction. If the people who created the Amendments didn t agree, we wouldn t have them today. This proves they were a success. George Washington urged congress in his first inaugural address to propose amendments that offered a reference for the characteristic rights of freemen and a regard for public harmony. (Doc. B) The harmony in this quote is saying that the public should live in agreement with each other. Because of the segregation, there will eventually going to be a lack of regulation controlling those sins. Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) delivered a score that mix new technologies and techniques with vintage scores cliches. Tom Holkenborg is a composer from the Netherland who has had a number of hits as a solo artist in the music electronic scene back in the late 90s and more this last decade for his work on film scores with his mentor Hans Zimmer. The pair have provided the scores for some of Hollywood s biggest recent blockbusters counting 300: Rise of an Empire , Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises among others. Certainly in Holkenborg s score for Mad Max: Fury Road we can hear an emulation of Zimmer sound . Zimmer create simple thematic sequence that he would repeat and make evolve all along the movie. He s also especially famous for blending electronic music sounds using computers and/or combination of synthesizers with traditional orchestral arrangements. He is particularly adept at blending diverse styles into a musical fusion of classical, pop and world music. His style is very much to create simple thematic material, and then give them the Zimmer treatment to craft them into highly effective pieces of film music embodying the mood of a film, such that music and movie complement perfectly. (Paterson, 2016) Holkenborg had a clear major vision for the score. He wanted to create an insane apocalyptic rock opera that has to be over the top ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The tile, created between 1520 and 1540, is from Ä°znik, Turkey. It is composed of fritware ceramic painted underglaze. The base of the tile is a white underglaze glaze, and all decoration is in various shades of blue underglaze. The shape is a hexagon with a circular, symmetrical floral pattern derived from a central focal point. This tile had meticulous work put into its design, showing the concern of its artist to emulate cultural tradition and destiny on a single ceramic hexagon. Fritware is a form of pottery where frit is added to the clay in order to lower the necessary fusion temperature. This version of ceramics was popular in Ä°znik, Turkey, the leading producer of decorative tiles during the Ottoman Empire. Underglaze is a technique in which decoration is painted to the piece before it is glazed. However, underglaze uses certain pigments derived from oxides that fuse with the glaze, thus restricting the color palette. The original color found to work by the Chinese was cobalt blue, and this is present on the Ottoman tile. In addition, the Ä°znik factories used turquoise, purple, green and red in later years. • 21. Figurative Language And Imagery InJuggler, By Richard Wilbur The poem Juggler describes how the tricks the juggler acts out for the crowd amaze and intrigue them. In the poem Juggler by Richard Wilbur, the author uses imagery, figurative language and tone to describe the juggler as someone who brings happiness and fun to others. The use of imagery, figurative language, and tone are used to describe the juggler and reveal the speaker s own views about the world. Throughout the poem the author uses imagery to describe the juggler s appearance and the tricks he is accomplishing in his show. For example, Wilbur states, it takes a sky blue juggler with five red balls...to shake our gravity up. (lines 6 7). The author s description of the juggler as someone who can shake our gravity up (line 7) shows that the juggler is someone who has a tremendous impact on the audience and the speaker. This is true since the crowd is full of serious people and the juggler evokes happiness and astonishment from the audience. Moreover, by saying this the audience is able to get an insight into the life of the speaker; we are able to see that not a lot of things happen in the speaker s life that cause or bring up excitement and happiness. Additionally, Wilbur shows the reader how the juggler is performing, the author says, Oh, on his toe the table is turning, the broom s Balancing up on his nose, and the plate whirls. On the tip of the broom! (lines 9 21). We can see that as the juggler is performing his great trick the crowd is excited and amazed at what he is accomplishing through his performance when the author says, Damn, what a show, we cry... (line 21). Having the crowd cheer at the juggler as he completes his trick of the balancing act showed that the juggler was able to bring happiness and amazement with the many tricks he was able to perform for the crowd. As the poem progresses, we can see how the juggler manipulates the five red balls he is using to move around his body. In the poem, Wilbur uses figurative language like personification to show how the balls move by the tricks the juggler does. For example, Wilbur says, The balls roll around, wheel on his wheeling hand, learning the ways of lightness, alter to spheres, grazing his finger ends, cling to their course ... Rather than publicly make such arguments about the roots of Black American suffering, Obama has repeatedly argued for an increased sense of personal responsibility... Such calls may be well intentioned, but when emphasis is placed on social and personal choice instead of racism as a political force that restricts choice, victim blaming prevents problem solving ( Where ya at? 318). We can surmise, then, that Obama s image is directly related to the notion of the post racial through his failure to explicitly discuss racism, which in turn, affects how notions of race and raciality are conceived and discussed in the American socio political landscape as a whole; in contrast, hip hop is in a position to deal more explicitly with race and racism. It would make sense to simply have Frost leave the wall alone, thus ending the separation, but he chooses not to, indicating that he too finds comfort in the presence of the wall. One of the first things that I noticed about the style of the poem was that it was not broken up into stanzas, when looked at sideways gave the illusion of a wall with gaps. Microbiota Controls The Homeostasis Of Glial Cells Cristiaan Ciarlo Bio 328 Summary: The article titled: Microbiota Controls the Homeostasis of Glial Cells in the Gut Lamina Propria assessed the varying conditions in which Microbiota within the developing digestive tract can influence the process of network formation of the certain aspects of the enteric nervous system. The enteric nervous system (ENS) is the aspect of the digestive system endowed with its own nervous system (Bowen 2006). As far as the article is concerned, there were three important biological findings presented in the article concerning the ENS. The first was that glial cells, under situations that are comparable to environmental, aggregate in the lamina propria during early stages of development after birth. The second finding was that this population of glial cells undergoes a regenerative cycle throughout the life of the organism. This occurs in a specific region of the gut. The final finding was that this early stage development and subsequent regeneration throughout the life of the organism depends on the microbiota presented to the gut. The Microbiota, as they are referred to in the article, are part of an enormous array of microbes which colonize the body (Baily, Gur, Worly, 2015). Therefore it can be understood that the gut microbiota are the microbes of the body that inhabit the gut. These seem to be part of the primary focus in the article.
