SOCIAL SKILL LEVELS OF STUDENTS OF SOCIAL WORK: DO OUTSIDE ACTIVITIES
MAKE A DIFFERENCE?
The study tries to compare the social skill levels of 97 students in the Department of Social Work
Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences, Hacettepe University, who participate and those
who do not participate in activities outside classroom. The data obtained through the research shows
that there is a meaningful relationship, statistically, between certain demographic characteristics of the
students and their scores on social skill inventory sub scales; and proving that the total social skill
scores of those who participate in artistic, sports and any other social activities are ... Show more

Therefore, social work education differs from other social science disciplines and involves more than
solely an information accumulation process. The Basic Characteristics of Social Work Social work
aims to empower those who are vulnerable and living under oppression and/or poverty, to increase
social welfare by taking human needs as the basis, and to meet the needs of all people (Haynes 1998:
501). The
comprehensive focus of the discipline is one of the difficulties, which has direct impact on social work
education and educators. This difficulty stems from the fact that the discipline of social work aims to
intervene in any problem at any level which appears or is likely to appear in the social structure.
Indeed, those working in the field of social work are expected to possess the information and skills
necessary for the discipline to achieve these objectives. Social work is defined also as an art besides
being defined as an academic discipline and a profession. It is, therefore, very important that social
work education is designed to cover all these scores. So how can the qualities that a social worker
must possess be defined? Johnson (1995: 41) provides an answer to this question. Johnson defines
social work as a creative mixture of knowledge, values and skills; therefore, only having one part of
this mix is not sufficient to perform social work. Johnson (1995: 57) argues that integrating the
knowledge, values and skills required in

Paraphernalia For The Lottery Essay
The Lottery: Thesis How blindly following makes horrible acts seem humane How traditionalism
overpowers the strongest of morals and emotions The Mindless following of traditionalism ignores
one s morals.
Ideas:
The original paraphernalia for the lottery had been lost long ago, and the black box now resting on the
stool had been put into use even before Old Man Warner, the oldest man in town, was born. Mr.
Summers spoke frequently to the villagers about making a new box, but no one liked to upset even as
much tradition as was represented by the black box. (5)
The villagers are extremely resistant to change, although as seen in other passages, the lottery is not
without its detractors.
There had been, also, a ritual salute, which the official of the lottery had had to use in addressing each
person who came up to draw from the box, but this also had changed with time, until now it was felt
necessary only for the official to speak to each person approaching. (7)
The lottery has evolved over time, yet there are fundamental elements of it that the villagers would
never consider changing
Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to
use stones. (76)

Moreover, the elder of the town, old man Warner, spoke about how important this tradition had been

Sympatric Speciation In Grey Fish
Divergent evolution occurs when two populations of the same species are separated and become
genetically different. Two types of divergent evolution are demonstrated in Figure 2. One type is
called Allopatric speciation; this occurs when a population or group of organisms belonging to the
same species, are separated geographically. Over time, the separated groups develop different traits
due to environmental differences. In Figure 2a, the grey fish evolved in a lake the receives salt water
runoff, they would need to have evolved traits to survive the increased salinity.
Sympatric speciation occurs in the populations are not separated (Figure 2b). For some reason the two
populations don t mix even though they are in the same environment. Differences in behavior can lead
to sympatric speciation. For instance, one population feeds on plants at the bottom of the lake , while
the other feeds on insects near the surface. Over thousands of years of separation based on behaviors,
they become different species because each population would have traits to make them better suited to
eating plants at the bottom of a lake, or eating insects near the surface. ... Show more content on

Coevolution happens when two species evolve together because of the relationship they have with
each other. For example, as prey gets faster to avoid being eaten, predators also have to be faster in
order to eat. Coevolution can also happen between organisms with a relationship a mutualistic

rules in determining what is science and what is not? If one is forced to use verifiability or
falsifiability, then one can conclude that International Business Administration (IBA) is indeed not

In 2003, Concorde was retired. The main reason is because it is very inefficient in terms of gasoline,
distance and passengers, and the profit was little. The second era, which involves Boeing 777 300ER,
was very different compared to Concorde s era. The main focuses of airplane performance are great
range, higher number of passengers, passenger comfort and higher fuel efficiency. Boeing tried to
make the airplane more efficient because gasoline nowadays are more expensive per gallons, which is
$3.48 per gallon, while usage of cars, boats or airplanes are higher than the past. Therefore, it created
an airplane that is not only fuel efficient, but can travel a great distance. At the period when the
Concorde was made, traveling by plane was not something that was considered affordable.
Consequently the number of passengers was limited, thus making airplane manufactures unpressured
to make bigger planes. However, progressing into the 1990s, air travel became cheaper and accessible
for more people, requiring airline companies to carry more people on existing routes. Consequently
aircraft manufacturers are forced to create larger capacity airplanes. Based on this new paradigm and
demands from airline companies, the Boeing 777 was conceived. The new airliner permits
approximately three times of the capacity of the Concorde while allowing much greater

A Thematic Analysis Of Jonah And The Big Fish

English Bible as Literature
Prof. Sonntag
11 03 2015.
Jonah and the Big Fish Analysis Notably known as the universality of God s love, the book of Jonah is
one of the most captivating short stories and books in the bible. Unlike other historical books that are
well known for their collections of oracles, visions and sermons, The book of Jonah mainly focuses on
narrative; much like the stories of Samuel and Elijah, it establishes Jonah s relationship with God and
God s character and nature. Compared to the other prophets, Jonah is disobedient. After God instructs
Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people there to resort from their bad ways, Jonah refuses to adhere
to God s command. Rather than listening to God, Jonah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In numerous points in the story, God refuses to abandon his people, which speaks of his compassion
and sympathy. Such example can be seen when Jonah is swallowed by a fish and stays in its belly for
three days and three nights. Although he disobeys God, after praying and realizing his mistake, God
rescues him from his miseries. He now realizes that God loves everyone, irrespective of their
obedience or disobedience. As an article puts it, He is the God who delivers and forgives those who
repent, but requires obedience from His

Elizabethan Court Instruments
Music played a large part in the Elizabethan era. It was an important form of entertainment and was
favored by Queen Elizabeth. Court music was considered to be the most unique and broad style of
music at the time. Elizabethan court music was a refined style of music specifically used in the courts
of Queen Elizabeth. Court instruments were a main part in court music. Many musicians took part in
playing and composing music for court. Queen Elizabeth had a special liking for the arts and enjoyed
music.
The introduction of new musical instruments produced refined, beautiful sounds. The instruments new
to the Elizabethan era were the viol, an early model of the violin, the hautboy, an oboe like instrument,
and the keyboard instruments, the spinet, harpsichord, and virginal. Playing multiple instruments at
one time was still in the experimental stage, but was done to make creative and unusual sounds. String
and keyboard instruments were becoming very popular at this time, creating the refined sound, unique
to the court. The most popular instrument of that time was the lute, ... Show more content on

She employed some musicians to play the instruments, some to compose the music, and some to sing
the music. A few court composers were Thomas Campion, Robert Johnson, John Dowland, and
William Byrd. The range of music played at court varied from traditional, simple English ballads to
sophisticated madrigals and from quiet church music to lively dance music. Because of this difficult
range of music the employed musicians had to be very talented. When Elizabethan composers wrote
music, they did not specify what instruments should be used but left that decision to the musicians
who played the composition. Musicians of the Elizabethan era were very creative and experimented
with different combinations of instruments playing together. One of the best known combinations
came to be known as the English consort, which consisted of a violin, flute, lute, and

Narrative Essay On Chicago
Beep! Beep! Beep! My alarm blared and I knew it was time to hit the road. After 6 extremely long,
tiring hours in the car, we stopped in Champaign, Illinois for lunch. After an amazing meal, we were
on the road again traveling towards Chicago.
We finally arrived in Chicago after countless agonizing hours in the car. When we arrived in Chicago
we checked into our hotel and gazed at the skyline from our window. The next day we went to the
Navy Pier. We rode the humongous Ferris wheel on the pier. It was a ton of fun, even though I m not
the biggest fan of heights. We also rode the train everywhere we went in the city. Chicago was a
marvelous city and I wouldn t mind to go again.
After we left Chicago, we drove up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While we were in town we went to a

day we visited one of the largest waterparks in the entire United States, Noah s Ark. There were a boat
load of extremely entertaining water slides at this park. Black Anaconda was my favorite slide in the
whole park. This fascinating ride was shockingly fast and had full of hills. When we got back from the
water park, we went to eat at a restaurant on the Wisconsin Dells Strip. We ate an immense meal at
MACS. This unreal restaurant was a macaroni shop. They had an endless amount of specialty dishes. I
had their stunning classic dish and it was out of this world. After dinner we went shopping at all the
stores on the Strip. While we were shopping we stopped at a fudge shop. The employees were making

Shel Silverstein s Where The Sidewalk Ends
Shel Silverstein was born in Chicago, Illinois and began writing at a very young age. He is the author
of children s literature like Everything On It and Where the Sidewalk Ends . In 1963, he met an editor
named Ursula Nordstrom who inspired him about writing a book that is suited for children. In the
book Everything On It , Silverstein added humor and laughs for the children who read the book, but
still be able to add a life lesson. However, in the book Where the Sidewalk Ends , he wanted to inform
adults to look back on their own childhood and look for the moments that gave them joy. When
writing those books, Silverstein used different styles when writing his poems. For example, he uses
rhyming, punctuation, rhythm, and tone to engage children and make them enjoy his poems, but still
be able to portray his message or lesson from each poem to kids. First of all, Silverstein uses the
elements, rhyming and rhythm in most of his poems to make readers more engaged and so they can
easily understand what the poem is trying to say. In the poem Masks from the book Every Thing On It

The Concept Of Imagination, By Giambattista Vico And...
The concept of imagination is classified to be highly significant within the presence of our
contemporary generation as it is construed from diverse forms of perspectives. The role of imagination
is defined to be imperative within the cognitive spectrum as it allows individuals to understand the
functionality of the human mind within the world (Pern 162). Furthermore, the concept of imagination
is fundamental within the study of cultural psychology, as well as apprehending the objective behind
the study of semiosis (process of signs) (Pern 162). In addition, philosophers and thinkers have
centralized various forms of explanations and theories regarding the source that stimulates
imagination and how it is a critical part of understanding human behavior within society (Pern 163).
For example, famous philosophers and thinkers Giambattista Vico and Thomas Hobbes emphasized
the significance of imagination and semiotic activity within their respective theories (Pern 162 163).
Additionally, Vico and Hobbes addressed similar and divergent ideologies regarding the process of
imagination conceptualizing how the concept of imagination is imperative to understanding the human
experience. Giambattista Vico established his ideology concerning imagination on the grounds of
independence as imagination does fulfill the function of rationality and logical thinking. However,
Hobbes held a contradictory viewpoint on the different concepts driven by the human mind such as
sensitivity,

Colonists Point Of View On The American Revolution
COLONISTS POINT OF VIEW ON THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION The British were cruel,
forceful, and just plain mean. Colonists asked the British for their rights, but no, the British would not
give them their rights. Britain was a horrible country, and they didn t listen to the Colonists, although
they were usually right. Following the French and Indian War, King George the third wrote the
surprising Proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation stated that the new western frontier that the
colonists won actually belonged to the indians and the colonists could not settle past a line of the
Appalachian mountains. The law was passed because the Natives claimed that the western frontier

On The Run By Alice Goffman
In On The Run, Alice Goffman focuses on a particular group of young Black men living in a poor
neighborhood, struggling to live a good and fair life. These boys from 6th street are segregated from
resources that would be found in more economically advanced neighborhoods. A resource that they do
run into more than often is over policing in their neighborhood. As they are disproportionately
targeted for arrest to fill quotas, this constant behavior and events deemed as a norm (even little
children play a game about cops catching and being overly aggressive to Black boys), hinders their
process at advancing within American society. Systematic oppression against a minority group slows
and puts racial tension progress at a standstill, as they are continued victims of larger forces. What
truly works against them once locked up and released, is that they were not given a chance based on
race, now it becomes based on race plus their criminal history. People in such situations are left with
one option, in order for them to survive and provide for their families, they must do it through illegal
activity. Locking people up and returning then into the same environment which had limited resources
does nothing to solve larger powers at play. Laws and documents may exist that describe an equal and
fair society, but without action, words seem to hold less value. The Declaration of Independence, and
the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, are both documents meant to symbolize

speedier recuperation times and boosts energy. While veganism alone isn t going to transform you into
strong athletes, it positively won t keep that from happening either. Numerous athletes around the
world have demonstrated they can make the vegan eating routine work for them soundly. They have

William Shakespeare s A Murder On The Orient Express
In contemporary media, the art of the mystery seems to have been lost. Most authors and storytellers
simply continue to clarify until there is no mystery left to uncover. The audience is then able to easily
deduce the ending fairly early on. This, however, was not always the case. Writers like Agatha Christie
did not baby or spoil readers by making the enigma easier to solve; instead she did everything in her
power to conceal the ending and delay the solution to the reader. In A Murder on the Orient Express,
rather than clarifying as the novel progresses, Agatha Christie shrouds and obfuscates the solution
until the very end using a variety of techniques to manipulate the readers in order to keep them
interested, immersed, but, most importantly, invested and involved in the final outcome to the mystery.
One of the most important attributes of a mystery novel is the distribution of information and details
surrounding the plot and characters of the caper. The reader expects to be, at the very least, introduced
to all relevant information. Christie uses this to her advantage.Red Herrings are devices meant to
distract and draw attention to something plausible although ultimately irrelevant, Christie takes
advantage of this device to deceive the reader into overlooking crucial information that leads to the
solution of the mystery; keeping them connected and involved to the book for longer. Throughout the
novel Christie consistently drops hints and clues in order to distract the

Pride and Power in George Orwell s Shooting an Elephant ...
Every writer has that one special quirk that keeps readers coming back for more. Whether it is the
humor or the characters, most authors carry their quirks from story to story. In Shooting an Elephant,
George Orwell describes his experience of shooting an elephant. In A Hanging, he describes the
emotions that run through him as he watches the hanging of a prisoner. Both essays have similar key
ideas that identify Orwell as a writer. The results of pride and power contribute to the themes that
connect his essays and identify Orwell as a descriptive writer.
One of Orwell s distinctive characteristics is his emphasis of his emotional response to life and death
in every situation. Orwell engages readers in his pieces because they feel ... Show more content on

Orwell is a very descriptive writer who emphasizes a different moral in every essay. He is not simply
describing an elephant shooting or a hanging; he is trying to make readers listen to his messages. One
of the messages that Orwell wants his readers to understand is the power that role playing has on the
human mind. Orwell demonstrates this theme quite easily in both essays. Before killing the elephant,
Orwell states, I had got to shoot the elephant. I had committed myself to doing it when I sent for the
rifle. A sahib has got to act like a sahib... (Orwell: Shooting an Elephant). This statement illustrates
how people with power must live up to their expectations to keep that power. He knows he has the
power to kill the animal, so he makes himself fit the role of a killer. Power can affect the way people
act. A modern day example of this is shown when gang members act on thoughts of the group to gain
acceptance by other members. The acceptance gives them power and this is a universal idea that
Orwell focuses on. Orwell also stresses power to describe human nature. Orwell likes to use this in
both essays because it explains the inconsistency that humans have when power takes over. This is one
of Orwell s morals he stresses to his audience to make them realize the poor decisions people make
when in power.
Orwell s writings are most identifiable by the idea that a sense of pride in one s actions and thoughts

Comparison Of Arthurian Legend

A Comparison of Arthurian Legend in Various Stories
Arthurian legend was a genre many writers used in Chaucer s day. It is a story made of romances,
heroism, and ballads mostly about Arthur s chief knight Sir Gawain who was mainly a man of social
and ethical virtue. Often time s Arthurian legend is a story of a knight who fights the bad guy, learns a
lesson, saves the day and get s the girl. Although sometimes the knight may start off as the bad guy as
he did in one of Chaucer s famous tales The Wife of Bath. Although Arthurian legend was used in
many stories of that time, often the details were changed around to make the story unique but all in all
kept the same idea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A young lustful knight rapes a young maiden one day in Arthur s courts and is threatened to be put to
death. The queen offer s him a second chance by offering a challenge. The challenges was that he was
given a year to figure out what women truly want from their husbands and come back and present his
findings. A year pasts and he doesn t find his answer. As he s heading back to Arthur s court to face
certain death he meets an old hag. This old hag makes a deal with him that she will give him his
answer and help him if he pledges himself to her. He agrees and heads back to the courts and presents
his answer. When his life is saved the old hag comes up and asks the knight to marry him. Of course
he is forced to say yes and on their wedding night the old hag finds him rather upset with the whole
situation. She then offers him another deal. She gave him the choice to pick between having an
unfaithful but young and beautiful wife, or a faithful and true older, uglier wife. The knight tells the
old hag she can choose and when he says this, she turns into a young beautiful woman and promises to
always stay truthful to him because he rendered himself to her. This is another story presented with a
situation that would never be able to happen in real life. The question raised is why these authors
would add these supernatural stories into their literature when their audience was clearly protestant. I
think that these

Macbeth Dreams Visions and Hallucinations Rereading
The influence of Dreams, Visions and Hallucinations in Macbeth and other Literary Texts
The realities of the world affected me as visions, and as visions only, while the wild ideas of the land
of dreams became, in turn, not the material of my every day existence but in very deed that existence
utterly and solely in itself. Edgar Allan Poe Uncanny encounters with visions and hallucinations blur
the presumed constraints of time and space. The phantasms or sensory impressions incited by diurnal
experiences which are unrealized in normal consciousness, gets holistically unveiled through
conjuration of dreams. Referring to one of the foremost exponents of weird literature Howard Phillips

Anderson describes choleric individuals as easily provoked, given to treachery, vehement in action;
fierce in assailing but inconstant in sustaining assault; inclined to envy, pride, prodigality, and wrath.
In Act 1, Scene 5, Lady Macbeth is faced simultaneously with two revelations a letter from Macbeth
disclosing the witches prophecy of kingship and the news of King Duncan s arrival conveyed by a
messenger following which she delivers her famous soliloquy where she calls upon the familiar spirits
to change her temperament to choleric. Choler could be intrinsic, or the effects of astrology, diet or
even time of the day. With her desires that no compunctious visitings of nature thwart her purpose, she
unwittingly implies the cessation of her periodic menstrual flow and the murth ring ministers are
called upon to replace the nutritive fluid in her breasts with gall or choler. According to Malleus

comes from carnal lust, which is in women insatiable , hence, the Weird Sisters who have been

The Rhetoric Of Drunk History Vs Happening Now
The Rhetoric of Drunk History Vs. Happening Now
After watching two episodes of Drunk History and one episode of Happening Now, I noticed they
both appeal to all parts of rhetoric. In each of the videos, the narrators describe an incident from their
point of view. There is some truth in the stories with a lot of opinion because it is told in the
perspective of the individual who is telling the story, but all the stories appeal to rhetoric to an extent.
In Drunk History: Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks, The story appeals to logos with deductive
reasoning. The major premise is blacks had to give up their seat on the bus to whites, the minor
premise is that Claudette Colvin is black, the conclusion was she had to give up her seat. When the

In 2012, Campisano and Modica created a dimensionless methodology for the best design of domestic
rainwater harvest systems. From these studies, it can be proved that the previous research had poorly
designed the intake of the rainwater harvest systems. The size of the designs of rainwater harvest
systems were kept in small communities. They also lacked consideration of all metropolitan
catchments varying in special capacity and quality of the systems. The second category in rainwater
harvest systems is simulation and evaluation of the effectiveness. First the research included
evaluating the possible potential for safe to drink water savings by using rainwater in residential areas.
The second thing that was in the research was estimating nonpotable household potential. With the
performance of storage type, and investigating the potential benefits from sharing rainwater harvest
systems with neighbors by using rainfall data. Establishing the probabilistic relationships between
storage capacities and deficit rates of rainwater harvest systems was some of the next things that were
used to consideration. These studies weren t really considered for the surface and sewer flowing after
rainwater. There are many studies evaluating the performance and reliability if rainwater harvest

How Electric Vehicles Can Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Electric cars are vehicles, which, instead of internal combustion engines, are driven by electric motors
and controllers. They have proved to be a good substitute for conventional vehicles and are considered
as a revolutionary innovation designed to protect the earth from the damaging effects of global
warming, as they work on the electricity supplying the integrated rechargeable battery that can be
easily recharged. Compared to traditional means of transport, electric vehicles seem to be more viable
and environmentally friendly because they do not need oil or other fossil fuels as an energy source but
the high cost of such a car and other important issues of exploitation discussed in this paper make their
use very doubtful comparing to the usual cars. The studies have shown that electric vehicles can
reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 6.12 billion tons annually (Westbrook, 2001). Even though they
need mainly coal as a supply of electricity, they produce less harmful emissions than oil, which is the
main source of energy for transport modes, driven by gasoline (Westbrook, 2001). With the
development of renewable energy technologies that use the power of wind or solar energy, people can
get a clean source of electricity, which will make the electric car more friendly to nature. In addition,
the introduction of regenerative braking system will allow cars to convert the force of inertia into
electricity, thus, adding, extra batteries, which, in return, increase its

It is important to study Thucydides because Thucydides can help us to understand the way politics

the Peloponnesian War on a deeper level (what do you mean?) to help us understand why and how

Good!! Empires can fall at any point. It has happened before, and it can happen again. Athens was a
very wealthy and powerful state in Greece, but after their defeat in the war at Syracuse, Athens was
completely destroyed (Thucydides Book VI, p.26). After the defeat of Athens by Syracuse,
Thucydides stated, They were beaten at all points and all together; all they suffered was great; they
were destroyed , as the saying is, with a total destruction, their fleet, their army, everything was
destroyed, and few of many returned home... (Thucydides Book VI, p. 26). Excellent quote. So,
essentially what we learn from the defeat of Athens is that countries are not inevitable to destruction.(I
do not understand this phrase) No matter how strong a country is, it can still collapse. Yes very good!!
History tends to repeat itself throughout the years, and Looking back on at past events can help us
understand why some things occur and how we can resolve certain issues. The Peloponnesian War
was a significant event that occurred in history, and a lot of the events that occurred throughout the
war have helped us to understand politics better. Thucydides documentation and interpretation of
some of the events of the war have helped us to understand why states make the decisions they do, and
some of the implications of those decisions. It is useful to know why states make the decisions that
they do because their decisions can impact the actions of other

A Report On The Industrial Segment
Being one of the largest companies in the world, one could assume 3M would be a lot to manage.
Organization is a key for the company. They are broken into 5 different segments: Industrial, Safety
and Graphics, Health Care; Electronics and Energy, and Consumer (See Appendix 2 for Organic
Growth Revenue of each Segment). This organization is a huge help for 3M to know who the base
target audience of each segment is, meaning they always know a general audience for each 5
segments. The industrial segment is made up of anything from automobile parts to industrial tapes.
One specific company that makes industrial tapes is a huge part of the 3M company. This company is
Scotch Tape. This is a great example of a way 3M has a company help them market a product as well
as both companies. Appendix 3 shows a great example of a Scotch Tape advertisement that also
benefits 3M. Even though the companies are technically connected, it is a great way to market them as
individual companies almost which brings focus not only to Scotch but to 3M as a whole. This
strategy can have satisfied customers know that 3M made the Scotch brand product, and make them
trust the 3M brand and want to buy more products from them. marketing for the product. 3M has
many companies they can do this with, and have proven that it is a great marketing strategy for them.

The Pros And Cons Of The Second Sino-Japanese War
Is it possible for the torture and deaths of thousands of innocent lives to be justified? Starting in 1932,
Japanese scientists began doing research for the Imperial Japanese Army, in which they subjected over
3000 people to brutal experiments. Treated as if they were lab rats their suffering was seen by the
scientists as part of the greater good for the Empire of Japan. After World War Two the United States
government pardoned these scientists in order to ensure that they would not destroy all their results.
To let all the results of their experiments be lost would make all the suffering that the victims went
through be lost and meaningless. The Second Sino Japanese War began in 1937 and ended in 1945.
Fighting between China and Japan began in 1931, after the successful Japanese invasion of
Manchuria, in border skirmishes. Due to their small population compared to China, Japan sought to
gain any advantage they could get. In 1932 the Japanese government began a large scale military
research program to perform research kept secret due to its brutal nature. This program is referred to
as the Ishii Network which is named after Shiro Ishii who was Chief Medical Officer of the Imperial
Japaneses Army and was in charge of this undertaking. He set up several facilities of the Epidemic
Prevention and Water Purification Department to be used to systematically conduct human
experimentation on mainly Chinese civilians. The subjects of the experiments were prisoners that had
no trial, were political prisoners, or were prisoners of war. These experiments were to see the effects
of biological and chemical warfare as well as preforming medical research. After World War Two
ended the Soviet Union put all researchers in the Ishii
Antkiewicz 2
Network that they found on trial but the United States offered to not use the results or data that they
receive from scientists in the Ishii Network as evidence for war crimes. This is due to the scientists
threatening to destroy all of the data if the were put on trial. This is similar to what was done in
Operation Paperclip, in which German scientists that worked for the Nazi party were brought to the
U.S. and allowed to continue their research or work in order to

It is said that following a visit to the Oracle of Delphi he spent much of his life questioning anyone in
Athens who would engage him, in order to disprove the oracular prophecy that there would be no man
wiser than Socrates. Through these live dialogues, he examined common but critical concepts that
lacked clear or concrete definitions, such as beauty and truth, and the virtues of piety, wisdom,
temperance, courage, and justice. Socrates awareness of his own ignorance allowed him to discover
his errors as well as the errors of those who claimed knowledge based upon falsifiable or unclear
precepts and beliefs. He wrote nothing, but inspired many disciples, including many sons of prominent
Athenian citizens (including Plato), which led to his trial and executionin 399 B.C. on the charge that
his philosophy and sophistry were undermining the youth, piety, and moral fiber of the city. He was
offered a chance to flee from his fate but chose to remain in Athens, abide by his principles, and drink
the poison hemlock.
Socrates most important student was Plato, who founded the Academy of Athens and wrote a number
of dialogues, which applied theSocratic method of inquiry to examine philosophical problems. Some
central ideas of Plato s dialogues are the Theory of Forms, i.e., that the mind is imbued with an innate
capacity to understand and contemplate concepts from a higher order preeminent world, concepts

The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Suicide
It is obvious discussing physician assisted suicide is a very controversial issue that is discussed daily
by those who wish to die to avoid loss of dignity and also by those who think it is unethical. For
physician assisted suicide to even be considered, the patient must be of sound mind when they are
requesting death with dignity. Physician assisted suicide should be a legal option for people who are
unable to end their own lives. However, there should be safeguards to prevent any sort of abuse. There
should be the legalization of physician assisted suicide, but not for active euthanasia. It should never
be contemplated as a substitute for comprehensive comfort care or for working with patients to resolve
the physical, personal, and social challenges posed by the process of dying (Meier, D.E., p. 294). If an
incurable patient who is suffering asks for specific help in physician assisted suicide, physicians
should have the obligation to fully scrutinize the request. Not only is it the seriousness of considering
medicine as the placement of certain suicide an issue, it is a form of direct killing. Medical advances
are surely making it easier to reduce pain and suffering, so why should there be policies devised and
sanctioned by the state to kill those in pain and suffering?
An article in the journal of the American Medical Association by Ethics and Health Policy argues that
allowing physicians to assist in the suicide of hopelessly ill patients will violate the nature of

155). There are many types of tests and approaches to cognitive assessments depending on the age of
the person and symptoms currently experienced (Cordell et al. 147). These assessments are combined
to ensure that there is a clear reason for concern, however, in the film, simply memory testing is done.
During sessions with a neurologist, it is important if an informant, someone who has witnessed the
change in cognition, is present during the diagnostic process (Cordell et al. 147). After informing
Alice of this, she, alongside her husband, is tested through the repetition of sentences and ability to
memorize a name and address. Alice s neurologist merely tests her memory, while excluding other
important examinable areas. If the cognitive assessments cause further concerns, a full dementia
evaluation is conducted (Cordell et al. 147).
Subsequently, the full evaluation process that takes place also varies among individuals of different
ages and their symptoms experienced (Shimada 47). In the cases of younger onset cognitive
impairment with quick progression, an MRI scan and bloodwork are done (Lee et al. 155). From clear
MRI scans and blood tests, potential reasonings for Alice s symptoms, for example brain tumours, can
be ruled out. As Alice s cognitive decline continues, the next step is a PET scan to observe the brain at
a molecular level in determining the amyloid levels in the

Absolute Value Of Being A Real Estate Agent
Absolute value can be used in a variety of ways in real life occupations like a real estate agent.
Absolute value is important because if a number does not work because it s negative, absolute value is
used to make the number positive. Out of many job possibilities, I chose a real estate agent because it
uses absolute value the most in the job with things like measuring distances and financial transactions.
A real estate agent, by definition, is a person who sells and rents out buildings and land for clients This
job is important because real estate agents are the reason something has an address and people have
ever rented, bought, or sold homes. The following essay will discuss how being a real estate agent is
important to everyday life and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way is that they need to know measuring distances. Real estate agents need this for tasks like
placing for sale or open house signs in the perfect spot, taking pictures to make the house look
appealing to a buyer, measuring the rooms of home, and to know how far away the house is from main
places like a school. The last reason math is needed is for financial transactions. This task is a
necessity for selling, buying, or renting a house, or estimating costs of a home, renovations or updates,
and furniture.
To be a real estate agent, you have to have loads of requirements. One essential education requirement
is at least a high school diploma. So, no college is required but you probably have a better chance at
the job with college. Also, a real estate agent needs to have licenses for the state they work in. Your
state requires a specific number of hours of coursework or written or hands on work in order to get
your license.
Real estate agents are needed and can be quite helpful when in the market for a new home or trying to
sell yours. In all, this occupation is very useful and without it, the property market would be a

Essay Woodworking Provided Employment for Many Settlers
Campbell
Colonial Research Paper
Woodworker was a very broad term for a loose category of jobs. There was the Cabinetmaker, who
was responsible for making a wide variety of furniture. This included cabinets, dressers, candlestands,
chairs, and tables. There was The Joiner, who was responsible for finishing the house. He made doors,
windows, and roofs with shingles. The Carpenter was responsible for building houses. He made
planks out of logs. He used the planks to make shingles, which were given to The Joiner so he could

There was also walnut, which was one of the only types of wood grown locally that was considered
fine, or fancy. One type of imported wood was mahogany. It was imported from the Caribbean and
was very expensive. It was usually used for dressers and cabinets, but could be used for tables and
candlestands as well. This shows that only wealthy people would buy finer furniture because it was
fashionable and expensive. Although mostly the English used Woodworking, the Native Americans
did too. Native Americans did some woodworking. The Native Americans made tools out of bone
from dead animals. They made different tools from different bones. One tool they made from bone
was the axe. This shows that Native Americans did not have access to metal and used an alternative
resource for woodworking. Some Woodworkers were well known more than others.
Some noted Woodworkers not only built but sometimes fixed parts of the town. There were famous
woodworkers such as Benjamin Powell, who fixed the Public Gaol. James Morris, who supervised
construction on the Bruton Parish Church. John Wheatley did repairs on the Palace and helped on
Carter s Grove Plantation. A man named Christopher Ford built the 2nd Capital Building in Colonial
Williamsburg. This shows that Woodworkers played an important role in the construction of Colonial
Williamsburg. Such a job does have a good income. The Colonial Woodworker worked on many jobs,
for which he was paid.

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, social work education differs from other social science disciplines and involves more than solely an information accumulation process. The Basic Characteristics of Social Work Social work aims to empower those who are vulnerable and living under oppression and/or poverty, to increase social welfare by taking human needs as the basis, and to meet the needs of all people (Haynes 1998: 501). The comprehensive focus of the discipline is one of the difficulties, which has direct impact on social work education and educators. This difficulty stems from the fact that the discipline of social work aims to intervene in any problem at any level which appears or is likely to appear in the social structure. Indeed, those working in the field of social work are expected to possess the information and skills necessary for the discipline to achieve these objectives. Social work is defined also as an art besides being defined as an academic discipline and a profession. It is, therefore, very important that social work education is designed to cover all these scores. So how can the qualities that a social worker must possess be defined? Johnson (1995: 41) provides an answer to this question. Johnson defines social work as a creative mixture of knowledge, values and skills; therefore, only having one part of this mix is not sufficient to perform social work. Johnson (1995: 57) argues that integrating the knowledge, values and skills required in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Paraphernalia For The Lottery Essay The Lottery: Thesis How blindly following makes horrible acts seem humane How traditionalism overpowers the strongest of morals and emotions The Mindless following of traditionalism ignores one s morals. Ideas: The original paraphernalia for the lottery had been lost long ago, and the black box now resting on the stool had been put into use even before Old Man Warner, the oldest man in town, was born. Mr. Summers spoke frequently to the villagers about making a new box, but no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box. (5) The villagers are extremely resistant to change, although as seen in other passages, the lottery is not without its detractors. There had been, also, a ritual salute, which the official of the lottery had had to use in addressing each person who came up to draw from the box, but this also had changed with time, until now it was felt necessary only for the official to speak to each person approaching. (7) The lottery has evolved over time, yet there are fundamental elements of it that the villagers would never consider changing Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they still remembered to use stones. (76) This passage implies that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote from Shirley Jackson s thematically intense story about tradition shows the townspeople s negativity towards the idea of changing the lottery system; There had even been a notion to eliminate the barbaric process altogether. Moreover, the elder of the town, old man Warner, spoke about how important this tradition had been on their society and how getting rid of it would be catastrophic. • 5. Sympatric Speciation In Grey Fish Divergent evolution occurs when two populations of the same species are separated and become genetically different. Two types of divergent evolution are demonstrated in Figure 2. One type is called Allopatric speciation; this occurs when a population or group of organisms belonging to the same species, are separated geographically. Over time, the separated groups develop different traits due to environmental differences. In Figure 2a, the grey fish evolved in a lake the receives salt water runoff, they would need to have evolved traits to survive the increased salinity. Sympatric speciation occurs in the populations are not separated (Figure 2b). For some reason the two populations don t mix even though they are in the same environment. Differences in behavior can lead to sympatric speciation. For instance, one population feeds on plants at the bottom of the lake , while the other feeds on insects near the surface. Over thousands of years of separation based on behaviors, they become different species because each population would have traits to make them better suited to eating plants at the bottom of a lake, or eating insects near the surface. ... Budiman ANR: 238183 Word count: 1264 Disciplines, or the so called rules in determining what science is and what is not has made it difficult for economics to be considered as science. But how reliable are the rules in determining what is science and what is not? If one is forced to use verifiability or falsifiability, then one can conclude that International Business Administration (IBA) is indeed not science. On the other hand, the theories proposed by Thomas Kuhn, which was more of a historian of science than a philosopher of science, can oppose the criteria that considered economics as a non science. The main reason is because it is very inefficient in terms of gasoline, distance and passengers, and the profit was little. The second era, which involves Boeing 777 300ER, was very different compared to Concorde s era. The main focuses of airplane performance are great range, higher number of passengers, passenger comfort and higher fuel efficiency. Boeing tried to make the airplane more efficient because gasoline nowadays are more expensive per gallons, which is $3.48 per gallon, while usage of cars, boats or airplanes are higher than the past. Therefore, it created an airplane that is not only fuel efficient, but can travel a great distance. At the period when the Concorde was made, traveling by plane was not something that was considered affordable. Consequently the number of passengers was limited, thus making airplane manufactures unpressured to make bigger planes. However, progressing into the 1990s, air travel became cheaper and accessible for more people, requiring airline companies to carry more people on existing routes. Consequently aircraft manufacturers are forced to create larger capacity airplanes. Based on this new paradigm and demands from airline companies, the Boeing 777 was conceived. The new airliner permits approximately three times of the capacity of the Concorde while allowing much greater ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jonah and the Big Fish Analysis Notably known as the universality of God s love, the book of Jonah is one of the most captivating short stories and books in the bible. Unlike other historical books that are well known for their collections of oracles, visions and sermons, The book of Jonah mainly focuses on narrative; much like the stories of Samuel and Elijah, it establishes Jonah s relationship with God and God s character and nature. Compared to the other prophets, Jonah is disobedient. After God instructs Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people there to resort from their bad ways, Jonah refuses to adhere to God s command. Because of this difficult range of music the employed musicians had to be very talented. When Elizabethan composers wrote music, they did not specify what instruments should be used but left that decision to the musicians who played the composition. After 6 extremely long, tiring hours in the car, we stopped in Champaign, Illinois for lunch. After an amazing meal, we were on the road again traveling towards Chicago. We finally arrived in Chicago after countless agonizing hours in the car. When we arrived in Chicago we checked into our hotel and gazed at the skyline from our window. The next day we went to the Navy Pier. We rode the humongous Ferris wheel on the pier. It was a ton of fun, even though I m not the biggest fan of heights. We also rode the train everywhere we went in the city. Chicago was a marvelous city and I wouldn t mind to go again. After we left Chicago, we drove up to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the author of children s literature like Everything On It and Where the Sidewalk Ends . In 1963, he met an editor named Ursula Nordstrom who inspired him about writing a book that is suited for children. In the book Everything On It , Silverstein added humor and laughs for the children who read the book, but still be able to add a life lesson. However, in the book Where the Sidewalk Ends , he wanted to inform adults to look back on their own childhood and look for the moments that gave them joy. When writing those books, Silverstein used different styles when writing his poems. For example, he uses rhyming, punctuation, rhythm, and tone to engage children and make them enjoy his poems, but still be able to portray his message or lesson from each poem to kids. First of all, Silverstein uses the elements, rhyming and rhythm in most of his poems to make readers more engaged and so they can easily understand what the poem is trying to say. The concept of imagination is classified to be highly significant within the presence of our contemporary generation as it is construed from diverse forms of perspectives. Furthermore, the concept of imagination is fundamental within the study of cultural psychology, as well as apprehending the objective behind the study of semiosis (process of signs) (Pern 162). Colonists asked the British for their rights, but no, the British would not give them their rights. Britain was a horrible country, and they didn t listen to the Colonists, although they were usually right. Following the French and Indian War, King George the third wrote the surprising Proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation stated that the new western frontier that the colonists won actually belonged to the indians and the colonists could not settle past a line of the Appalachian mountains. The law was passed because the Natives claimed that the western frontier actually belonged to them, although the Natives weren t using the land. • 14. On The Run By Alice Goffman In On The Run, Alice Goffman focuses on a particular group of young Black men living in a poor neighborhood, struggling to live a good and fair life. These boys from 6th street are segregated from resources that would be found in more economically advanced neighborhoods. A resource that they do run into more than often is over policing in their neighborhood. As they are disproportionately targeted for arrest to fill quotas, this constant behavior and events deemed as a norm (even little children play a game about cops catching and being overly aggressive to Black boys), hinders their process at advancing within American society. Systematic oppression against a minority group slows and puts racial tension progress at a standstill, as they are continued victims of larger forces. What truly works against them once locked up and released, is that they were not given a chance based on race, now it becomes based on race plus their criminal history. People in such situations are left with one option, in order for them to survive and provide for their families, they must do it through illegal activity. Locking people up and returning then into the same environment which had limited resources does nothing to solve larger powers at play. Laws and documents may exist that describe an equal and fair society, but without action, words seem to hold less value. • 18. William Shakespeare s A Murder On The Orient Express In contemporary media, the art of the mystery seems to have been lost. Most authors and storytellers simply continue to clarify until there is no mystery left to uncover. The audience is then able to easily deduce the ending fairly early on. This, however, was not always the case. Writers like Agatha Christie did not baby or spoil readers by making the enigma easier to solve; instead she did everything in her power to conceal the ending and delay the solution to the reader. In A Murder on the Orient Express, rather than clarifying as the novel progresses, Agatha Christie shrouds and obfuscates the solution until the very end using a variety of techniques to manipulate the readers in order to keep them interested, immersed, but, most importantly, invested and involved in the final outcome to the mystery. One of the most important attributes of a mystery novel is the distribution of information and details surrounding the plot and characters of the caper. The reader expects to be, at the very least, introduced to all relevant information. Christie uses this to her advantage.Red Herrings are devices meant to distract and draw attention to something plausible although ultimately irrelevant, Christie takes advantage of this device to deceive the reader into overlooking crucial information that leads to the solution of the mystery; keeping them connected and involved to the book for longer. In A Hanging, he describes the emotions that run through him as he watches the hanging of a prisoner. Both essays have similar key ideas that identify Orwell as a writer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Orwell is a very descriptive writer who emphasizes a different moral in every essay. He is not simply describing an elephant shooting or a hanging; he is trying to make readers listen to his messages. One of the messages that Orwell wants his readers to understand is the power that role playing has on the human mind. Orwell demonstrates this theme quite easily in both essays. Before killing the elephant, Orwell states, I had got to shoot the elephant. I had committed myself to doing it when I sent for the rifle. A sahib has got to act like a sahib... (Orwell: Shooting an Elephant). This statement illustrates how people with power must live up to their expectations to keep that power. He knows he has the power to kill the animal, so he makes himself fit the role of a killer. Power can affect the way people act. A modern day example of this is shown when gang members act on thoughts of the group to gain acceptance by other members. The acceptance gives them power and this is a universal idea that Orwell focuses on. Orwell also stresses power to describe human nature. Orwell likes to use this in both essays because it explains the inconsistency that humans have when power takes over. This is one of Orwell s morals he stresses to his audience to make them realize the poor decisions people make when in power. They have proved to be a good substitute for conventional vehicles and are considered as a revolutionary innovation designed to protect the earth from the damaging effects of global warming, as they work on the electricity supplying the integrated rechargeable battery that can be easily recharged. Compared to traditional means of transport, electric vehicles seem to be more viable and environmentally friendly because they do not need oil or other fossil fuels as an energy source but the high cost of such a car and other important issues of exploitation discussed in this paper make their use very doubtful comparing to the usual cars. The studies have shown that electric vehicles can reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 6.12 billion tons annually (Westbrook, 2001). Even though they need mainly coal as a supply of electricity, they produce less harmful emissions than oil, which is the main source of energy for transport modes, driven by gasoline (Westbrook, 2001). With the development of renewable energy technologies that use the power of wind or solar energy, people can get a clean source of electricity, which will make the electric car more friendly to nature. Starting in 1932, Japanese scientists began doing research for the Imperial Japanese Army, in which they subjected over 3000 people to brutal experiments. Treated as if they were lab rats their suffering was seen by the scientists as part of the greater good for the Empire of Japan. After World War Two the United States government pardoned these scientists in order to ensure that they would not destroy all their results. To let all the results of their experiments be lost would make all the suffering that the victims went through be lost and meaningless. The Second Sino Japanese War began in 1937 and ended in 1945. Fighting between China and Japan began in 1931, after the successful Japanese invasion of Manchuria, in border skirmishes. Due to their small population compared to China, Japan sought to gain any advantage they could get. In 1932 the Japanese government began a large scale military research program to perform research kept secret due to its brutal nature. This program is referred to as the Ishii Network which is named after Shiro Ishii who was Chief Medical Officer of the Imperial Japaneses Army and was in charge of this undertaking. He set up several facilities of the Epidemic Prevention and Water Purification Department to be used to systematically conduct human experimentation on mainly Chinese civilians. It is said that following a visit to the Oracle of Delphi he spent much of his life questioning anyone in Athens who would engage him, in order to disprove the oracular prophecy that there would be no man wiser than Socrates. Through these live dialogues, he examined common but critical concepts that lacked clear or concrete definitions, such as beauty and truth, and the virtues of piety, wisdom, temperance, courage, and justice. Socrates awareness of his own ignorance allowed him to discover his errors as well as the errors of those who claimed knowledge based upon falsifiable or unclear precepts and beliefs. He wrote nothing, but inspired many disciples, including many sons of prominent Athenian citizens (including Plato), which led to his trial and executionin 399 B.C. on the charge that his philosophy and sophistry were undermining the youth, piety, and moral fiber of the city. He was offered a chance to flee from his fate but chose to remain in Athens, abide by his principles, and drink the poison hemlock. Socrates most important student was Plato, who founded the Academy of Athens and wrote a number of dialogues, which applied theSocratic method of inquiry to examine philosophical problems. Some central ideas of Plato s dialogues are the Theory of Forms, i.e., that the mind is imbued with an innate capacity to understand and contemplate concepts from a higher order preeminent world, concepts more real, permanent, and universal than or representative of the things ... • 35. The Legalization Of Physician Assisted Suicide It is obvious discussing physician assisted suicide is a very controversial issue that is discussed daily by those who wish to die to avoid loss of dignity and also by those who think it is unethical. For physician assisted suicide to even be considered, the patient must be of sound mind when they are requesting death with dignity. Physician assisted suicide should be a legal option for people who are unable to end their own lives. However, there should be safeguards to prevent any sort of abuse. There should be the legalization of physician assisted suicide, but not for active euthanasia. It should never be contemplated as a substitute for comprehensive comfort care or for working with patients to resolve the physical, personal, and social challenges posed by the process of dying (Meier, D.E., p. 294). If an incurable patient who is suffering asks for specific help in physician assisted suicide, physicians should have the obligation to fully scrutinize the request. Not only is it the seriousness of considering medicine as the placement of certain suicide an issue, it is a form of direct killing. Medical advances are surely making it easier to reduce pain and suffering, so why should there be policies devised and sanctioned by the state to kill those in pain and suffering? An article in the journal of the American Medical Association by Ethics and Health Policy argues that allowing physicians to assist in the suicide of hopelessly ill patients will violate the nature of ... • 36. Still Alice. Living With An Insidious Cognitive Declining Still Alice Living with an insidious cognitive declining illness, individuals diagnosed with early onset familial Alzheimer s disease often fear losing their sense of self (Borrello et al. 2495). This theme is carried out in the film through the character of Alice, a 50 year old linguistics professor at Columbia University. The inevitable decline in memory, communication, and eventually independence strike those with the disease (Borrello et al. 2494), which will quickly affect not only themselves, but also relationships with others. In this essay, I will discuss the level of accuracy in the film, Still Alice, directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, by analyzing its display of knowledge on neurological and psychological ... There are many types of tests and approaches to cognitive assessments depending on the age of the person and symptoms currently experienced (Cordell et al. 147). These assessments are combined to ensure that there is a clear reason for concern, however, in the film, simply memory testing is done. During sessions with a neurologist, it is important if an informant, someone who has witnessed the change in cognition, is present during the diagnostic process (Cordell et al. 147). After informing Alice of this, she, alongside her husband, is tested through the repetition of sentences and ability to memorize a name and address. Alice s neurologist merely tests her memory, while excluding other important examinable areas. If the cognitive assessments cause further concerns, a full dementia evaluation is conducted (Cordell et al. 147). Subsequently, the full evaluation process that takes place also varies among individuals of different ages and their symptoms experienced (Shimada 47). In the cases of younger onset cognitive impairment with quick progression, an MRI scan and bloodwork are done (Lee et al. 155). From clear MRI scans and blood tests, potential reasonings for Alice s symptoms, for example brain tumours, can be ruled out. As Alice s cognitive decline continues, the next step is a PET scan to observe the brain at a molecular level in determining the amyloid levels in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Absolute Value Of Being A Real Estate Agent Absolute value can be used in a variety of ways in real life occupations like a real estate agent. Absolute value is important because if a number does not work because it s negative, absolute value is used to make the number positive. Out of many job possibilities, I chose a real estate agent because it uses absolute value the most in the job with things like measuring distances and financial transactions. A real estate agent, by definition, is a person who sells and rents out buildings and land for clients This job is important because real estate agents are the reason something has an address and people have ever rented, bought, or sold homes. The following essay will discuss how being a real estate agent is important to everyday life and uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first way is that they need to know measuring distances. Real estate agents need this for tasks like placing for sale or open house signs in the perfect spot, taking pictures to make the house look appealing to a buyer, measuring the rooms of home, and to know how far away the house is from main places like a school. The last reason math is needed is for financial transactions. This task is a necessity for selling, buying, or renting a house, or estimating costs of a home, renovations or updates, and furniture. To be a real estate agent, you have to have loads of requirements. One essential education requirement is at least a high school diploma. So, no college is required but you probably have a better chance at the job with college. Also, a real estate agent needs to have licenses for the state they work in. Your state requires a specific number of hours of coursework or written or hands on work in order to get your license. Real estate agents are needed and can be quite helpful when in the market for a new home or trying to sell yours. In all, this occupation is very useful and without it, the property market would be a troubling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There was also walnut, which was one of the only types of wood grown locally that was considered fine, or fancy. One type of imported wood was mahogany. It was imported from the Caribbean and was very expensive. It was usually used for dressers and cabinets, but could be used for tables and candlestands as well. This shows that only wealthy people would buy finer furniture because it was fashionable and expensive. Although mostly the English used Woodworking, the Native Americans did too. Native Americans did some woodworking. The Native Americans made tools out of bone from dead animals. They made different tools from different bones. One tool they made from bone was the axe. This shows that Native Americans did not have access to metal and used an alternative resource for woodworking. Some Woodworkers were well known more than others. Some noted Woodworkers not only built but sometimes fixed parts of the town. There were famous woodworkers such as Benjamin Powell, who fixed the Public Gaol. James Morris, who supervised construction on the Bruton Parish Church. John Wheatley did repairs on the Palace and helped on Carter s Grove Plantation.
