2. Alien Vs Illegal Immigrants Essay
Immigration has always been and will always be a topic in the media. While the online Merriam
Webster defines the word immigrants as a person who comes to a country to live there, the urban
dictionary define immigrants as what every inhabitant of the USA is, except the Native
Americans. Many people have different views on aliens, whether legal or illegal. Even though
there are different types of aliens, people usually make the mistake to classify them all as one.
Aliens are of the other names used to refer immigrants. The different types of aliens classification
are as followed: a legal alien, a nonresident alien, a resident alien, and enemy alien and an illegal
alien. A legal alien is a non citizen who is allowed to stay in the country for example researchers,
business workers. A nonresident alien is a non citizen who is visiting the country for work, leisure,

4. Argument Against Criminal Justice
Until I was about sixteen, I had an adamant certainty that my education would end with taking
the LSAT and eventually practicing law. At a young age, I remember my parents telling me that
I would make a great lawyer. My mother was the one who really tried to fixate me on that path.
Every take your child to work day, I would find myself in a small conference room or courtroom
watching as lawyers deliberated and reached a consensus about the topic at hand. My mother
would take every opportunity that she had to introduce me to lawyers and judges that she worked
with. No, she wasn t a lawyer; my mother was a court reporter. She would take down everything

My older brother went to a private university and the amount of money that he had to pay for his
education shocked me. Knowing that my parents would shortly be putting two through college
meant that I should try to find a more cost effective university. The principal reasoning was
because I didn t want them to have to worry about money, nor did I want to take out much in
loans. This made me decide to look at primarily in state schools, which helped me narrow down my
search, but ultimately didn t compel me to choose George Mason University. With a smaller list of
universities, I did the classic prospective student tours, namely to Tech, UVA and William and
Mary. It didn t really occur to me to apply to George Mason because, like many others, I viewed it
solely as a commuter school much like NOVA. This all changed after some health issues that
pushed me to look for schools in the area so I could be close to home and have support from my
family when I needed it. This led me to doing some research and George Mason fit the bill, so I

6. Japanese Occupation of Borneo
In 1941, the Second World War broke out in the pacific region. As it was a principal plays of war
between the Allied and Japan in the Pacific Region, it was named as Pacific Ocean Theater. To
be the superior in the Pacific Region, the Japanese need to posses resources in order to have a
sufficient supply demand to stay in the war. Particularly, the Japanese needs oil resources. As it
was for oil resources that their wanted to posses, Borneo became the main target for Japan. In
addition according to Gordon (2000) in August 1940, Japanese Prime Minister Matsuoka Yosuke
formed an imperial concept of the Greater East Asia Co prosperity Sphere where they are trying to
create a self contained community of Asian nations led by the Japanese, for which the Asian nation
will share the prosperity and peace and liberating Asians from Western colonialism. However, when
their mission accomplished, the concept in theory differs from the reality as they manipulated the
colonies for their own imperial benefits. In these essays, it will discuss about the Japanese
Occupation of Borneo with particular references to Brunei.
Aside from possessing the resources to be superior in the Pacific Region, the Japanese also needed
to claim the territories under British colonies to be one. The Japanese occupation plan is basically
seizing British territories to literally weaken the British strength. The invasion of Brunei in some
way accomplished the mission. As the British were defeated to Japanese

7. Black Sacred Cosmos Research Paper
The Black Sacred Cosmos was developed through the conjoining of the African traditional past
with Western Christianity. It explains the influence of the Middle Passage, and the efforts of
enslavers to force assimilation of the Africans to Western religious beliefs and cultural practices.
Traditional African religions encompassed all portions of life; believers found something sacred
in their daily experiences. Modern day black religions encompass life as well, but there are certain
days like Sunday, or Saturday in the Adventist church, where we may dedicate more time to God.
Traditional religions were tied to family lines, from birth to death. The religionthat one s maternal
or paternal family practiced, was passed down from generation to generation; there was no
acceptance of faith like Christianity. There was a strong sense of community, where the gods and
goddesses were responsible for the wellbeing of the Africans, while the Africans as a... Show more

caused them to refine their African religious practices as the reached South Central America, as

Protestantism in North America and Catholicism in South America, Central America, and the
Caribbean. Once the Africans reached South and Central America, there was greater leniency with
the religions they practiced, due to there being more slaves than enslavers. This allowed them to
choose to practice their own religion or convert to Catholicism. In North America, there were more
enslavers than the enslaved, so African traditional practices were scarce. Until the African were

Curfews on nationalists were enforced with gunfire, torture was used in interrogations, and

10. Homer s View Of The Traditional Greek View On Family
Homer has a strong opinion about the traditional Greek view on family and ancestry. Homer
expresses his disdain with the tendency to prioritize one s own glory over their family. Further, he
ridicules the unnecessarily large role that ancestral tradition plays in day to day life. Through the
characters view on familyand ancestry Homer reveals the Greek s viewpoint on the afterlife, death,
and the immortal soul. Homer first portrays his view on ancestral tradition through the exchange
between Glaukos and Diomedes. He then makes his argument for family life through the dialogue
between Hektor and Andromache. Homer ties both ideas together with his revelation about belief in
the afterlife. Homer clearly prefers family and love over ancestral tradition and he makes his
argument by embedding his viewpoint within the dialogues.
Homer believes in the importance of family life and love, specifically the bond between living
family members. This is revealed in the exchange between Hektor and his wife Andromache.
Hektor, the hero of Troy, possesses the inhuman strength to turn the tide of the battle and as the
Achaians push forward, the city of Troy needs Hektor s battle skills. However, Hektor s wife,
Andromache, begs her husband not to enter the fray and advises him to draw your people up by
the fig tree, there where the city is openest to attack, and where the wall may be mounted (6.433

circumstance. More specifically, one of the most underrated, controversial health situation for men
is domestic violence against men. Domestic violence, also known as intimate partner violence,
occurs between people in an intimate relationship. Despite the common belief that domestic
violence only involves a physical altercation, it takes on many different forms including threats of
abuse, emotional and sexual too. Typically, society perceives this type of conduct to be primarily
committed against women. However, statistics will show that more than 1 in 4 men in the United

Australian schools are quick to suggest that our country s origins lie in European invasion. Students
are assigned to explore literature including The Rabbits and, away from our education, exposed to
productions including Rabbit Proof Fence , cementing the ideology that White culture is superior to
that of the Indigenous. Investigating perspective is crucial in determining the reality of any
historical event, particularly events where the subject can be emotionally charged. However, the
accuracy of any investigation is forfeited when only a singular interpretation is explored, as such is
the case in the Australian Curriculum. Many historians, when reviewing Australia s controversial...

Perceiving the Indigenous as an inferior and inevitably a dying race, the Australian government at
the turn of the century initiated legislation, such as in the 1909 Protection Act. And Assimilation
Policy, in the name of protection to gain control of the Indigenous populations (Nma.gov.au, n.d.).
The widespread forceful removal of many Indigenous children from their homes resulted in many
children living in constant fear of removal, whilst others were sheltered in missions. As was the
circumstance for a New South Wales women removed to Cootamundra Girls Home in the 1940 s:
They [workers at the girl s home] were cruel to us... I ve done things in that home that I don t think

13. The Human Rights Act 1998 Essay
Human Rights Act 1998
The Human Rights Act 1998 sets out the rights and freedoms of every citizen in the United
Kingdom. The HRA has three main effects, the first one is that it incorporates set out in the
European Convention of Human Rights into British law. Therefore if someone in the UK were to
breech your Human Rights you would be able to deal with this through the British court instead of
the European Court of Human Rights in France, which is what people had to do previously if their
human rights were breeched. This means in Britain in requires everyone (schools, police, courts,
local authorities and hospitals) carrying out public functions to respect and protect their own and
others human rights. These rights are called Convention Rights.
For the Human Rights Act to work it means all public bodies have to work with government, the
public can do this by respecting the rights and the government will put the laws in place so that
others respect your human rights too. For example, everyone has the right to life and this doesn t
only rely on the government to make sure you receive this right, but it also depends on those
around you not to harm you in any way, this is why the government has put in laws to try and stop
people from harming you so that you get that basic right.

This a federal statute signed into law by President Barak Obama on December 13, 2010. The law

15. Example Of Narrative Essay For The Great Gatsby
I grew up in a small town outside of Louisville called Corydon. It was a quaint place where
successful businessmen, doctors, and pilots lived to get away from the big city drama. Like a

connections. What they wore were the most fashionable clothes that money could buy, what they
drove were the newest, stylish cars, and what they thought were egotistical, upscale ideas.
However, if I were to proclaim that I was always morally superior to any of them, I would be

Abstract
The paper aims at sensitizing designers towards the voices of every stakeholder involved in
designing a product that influences through the product life cycle, in a comprehensible way with
an objective to facilitate designer towards a better design. This paper discusses the basic purpose
and nature of design in the context of judging the aptness of a dialogue among the stakeholders
including product in itself. It also discusses the kind of outcome based on designers stand in the
design process which makes the conversation dialogical or arguing in nature. The paper proposes
Design Tree as a structure, for creating distinct platforms for dialogue to happen at all stages of
design evolution for design dialogue to be comprehensible.
Introduction
Louis I Kahn in his lecture was explaining the importance of honoring building material. The
designer is at a junction and he has to choose a path. He has to decide between economy and
honor of material. The decision, that designer takes, is case specific and depends on various other
factors as the case might be.
The decision of whether to go logical or intuitive is discussed by many authors and designers in
many ways, some supporting logical or rational views and others intuitive or art based. Kahn s
quote mentioned above emphasizes on intuitive decision (as an honor towards the material) over
logical way (which is the economy). Christopher Alexander in his book Notes on the Synthesis of

The indictment separately charged Stewart with securities fraud in connection with her artificial
manipulation of the price of MSLO common stock (Justice Government Press Release, 2003). The
charges contained in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed
innocent unless and until proven guilty (Custom edition for Indiana Wesleyan University. 2007. p.
230).
The defendants filed a motion for a new trial, alleging that expert witness Lawrence F. Stewart,
director of the Forensic Services Division of the United States Secret Service, had committed
perjury in his testimony on behalf of the prosecution. Motion for new trial was denied by the court
on the basis that defendants cannot escape the fact that the jury acquitted both defendants of
making false statements relating to the existence of the $60 agreement, and the fact that ample
evidence supports the charges (Custom edition for Indiana Wesleyan University. 2007. p. 42).
Stewart did not enter into a plea bargaining agreement. A plea bargain is an agreement in which
the accused admits to a lesser crime than charged. In return, the government agrees to impose a
lesser sentence than might have been obtained had the case gone to trial. This saves costs, avoids

19. A Summary Of The Smoke Signals And Fences
We ve all experienced tough love before from somebody who wants us to prosper in life and be
successful. They push you harder than you think you can go. However while their attempts to
lead you to do better may not go as intended. This happens more often with parents and their
children. In some of the works we focused on this semester, we viewed examples of this
happening with the father and the son. In the play, Fences, main character Troy does this with
his son Cory. Troy is overly stubborn, so in his mind, the obstacles that he dealt with in life still
happens. This is why Troy is so hard on his son, because he doesn t make the same mistakes that
he already made. He doesn t take into consideration that times have changed in the world. In life
we do what we can and whatever it takes for those we loveso they don t make the same mistakes
that we ve already made. In the play, Fences and the film Smoke Signals we see examples of this
between the father and the son. However, there are some differences between the two.
Never once, throughout the play, had Troy ever told his son that he loved him. When Cory
wanted to go to football practice, Troy refused to allow him and told him to go get a job instead.
Troy wants his son to go out and get his own money so he will never be in the position that his

The government became concerned about how effective police governance strategies were and
started a process of consultation of police reform (Home Office, 2003). Following the

bureaucracy which prevents police from policing efficiently. The PCC want to implement greater
local discretion and independence from central departments. From the election of the PCCs, more

22. Teleological Argument Strengths
Strengths and Weaknesses of the Teleological Argument
Also known as the argument from design, the teleological argument simply states that a designer
must exist considering that life in the universe can only occur when it meets the right conditions of
certain fundamental physical constants that are within a very narrow range , according to
InspiringPhilosophy. They also exhibit marks of pattern, consistency, unity and order in their design.
In the Watchmaker Argument by William Paley, he stated that human artifacts are products of
intelligent design. The universe looks like human artifacts. Ergo, the universe is a product of
intelligent design. But because of its complexity and gigantic size, when compared to human
artifacts, it is probably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supported by inductive reasoning
Teleological argument offers natural and revealed theology. There are evidence that we can
observe, making it difficult to deny the presence of complexity and order in the universe. There is
apparent design in the different parts that come together to form the whole, such as the heart, brain,
eyes and other parts that make up the body.
2.Simple and straightforward
The use of analogy makes teleological argument comprehensible, allowing us to move from
something within experience and try to explain something beyond experience, such as the creation
of the universe. It also doesn t rely on fixed definitions that everyone must accept, but begins with
experience that may be universal or at least testable.
3.Consistent with the scriptures
For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without
excuse. This verse from the first chapter of the book of Romans is further reinforced by the

23. Music Theory As A Worship Leader
There are many ways to incorporate music theory as a worship leader and as a worship team. As
a leader, there are very significant benefits to having a strong understanding of music theory
including a greater ability to communicate to the team members according to their
understanding, a better understanding of what you want from the band technically, and a
greater proficiency in music which allows you to connect better with stronger musicians and
train up weaker ones. As a worship team, integrating music theory comes with its own benefits
and challenges. All worship bands need some level of music theory in order to function at any
level of efficiency. So the contrast made here will between those who use very little music
theory, such as those who have chord charts provided and nothing else, and those who may rely
completely off of sheet music. Of course in this issue, as it is with many issues, it is a matter of
balance and there is a sweet spot in between these two views. Many worship leaders learned how
to play guitar or piano just well enough to play and sing at the same time before being pushed
out to lead worship. That s my story. As soon as I could strum chords and sort of sing at the
same time, I started to lead for the high school group at my church. I knew very little about
theory, although I knew some from my time learning piano as a child and playing clarinet for a
year. I usually played alone or with another singer or cajonist. I didn t know harmony

24. Symbolism In The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls By Henry...
Henry Longfellow and John Whitter both used symbolism to juristically make their writing
more appealing and full of elements. For Longfellow it was The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls ..In
the poem, The Tide Rises, the Tide Falls , the theme to me is surrounded around the fact of life
goes on. The rise and fall of the tides in the ocean represent the way life is a roller coaster and it
goes up and down and never slows down. An example to relate to the themeis when Longfellow
says The day returns, but nevermore Returns the traveller to the shore, and the tide rises, the tide
falls. While he claims this it supports the fact that this is about life changing, it supports it
because once the day comes to an end, and the traveller (person living life) is at rest from a long
day, the tide rises and falls. In other ways, life still goes on. Now as for John Whitter s poem,
Snowbound, I believe the theme for this piece of literature is overcoming the odds. The setting I
thought of was in a little cabin that was trying its best to stand tall through a harsh winter storm. The
heat in doors was limited and the family inside was just trying to make it through what seemed
like a never ending storm. In the poem one line that caught my eye about them overcoming the
odds was We watched the first red blaze appear, Heard the sharp crackle, caught the gleam, On
whitewashed wall and sagging beam, . While he claims this is supports the fact that this is about
how regardless of the situation, no

Media Essay It s Time to Ban the Advertising of Alcoholic Beverages
Everywhere we go, we re bombarded by all sorts of advertisements. We can seldom go through
one day without receiving at least one phone call from a telemarketer. Turn on the TV for 15 or
20 minutes and you ll see at least one 5 minute commercial break. Advertisements are abundant
everywhere we go: alongside roads, at airports, and at train stations. Why is advertising so
popular, why do so many companies pump millions of dollars each year into advertising? The
answer is simple: ads inform people of products they otherwise wouldn t have heard of, they make
products look appealing to so that people will buy them, and they allow advertisers to influence the

The loss of control ties in closely with physical dependence on alcohol if, by whatever means, the
alcoholic attempts to quit, he or she experiences withdrawal symptoms. As an alcoholic continues
to drink more and more and become increasingly dependent on alcohol, he or she gains tolerance to
alcohol in order to get drunk, the alcoholic must consume more alcohol.
An explanation of alcoholism is not enough to persuade most people to ban alcohol advertising.
Most fail to recognize the vast amount of people that alcoholism and other alcohol related
problems effect. Many studies have been done and many statistics have been gathered to show
the grim reality of alcohol related problems. In the United States, there are 100,000 alcohol
related deaths each year, which puts it at slot number three in the list of the top causes of
preventable death in the nation. Approximately two thirds of domestic violence and sexual
assaults involve alcohol in one way or another and one half of all murders in the nation involve

Latin America is a melting pot of races, these diversity helped to shape Latin America societies and

Bingham Canyon was settled in 1848 by the Bingham brothers, Thomas and Sanford, who were
ranchers with no mining experience. It has come along way since the Bingham brothers started
mining in Bingham Canyon. Today the mine is 2Вѕ miles across at the top and Вѕ of a mile deep.
You could stack two Sears Towers (now known as the Willis building), on top of each other and
still not reach the top of the mine. About 30 to 40 million years ago, molten, metal bearing rock
deep within the earth s crust began to push toward the surface and formed Bingham s ore deposit.
Volcanoes erupted above the evolving ore body. This particular ore body contains primarily
copper, gold, silver and molybdenum. It all started when the Bingham brothers came to Utah and
claimed the land now known as Bingham Canyon, or the Kennicott Mine. Later in 1863, soldiers
stationed at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City explored the canyon and discovered lead ore. Utah s
first mining district was created in the Bingham Canyon area that same year. In 1893, Daniel

recommended developing the ore body through a revolutionary open pit mining method and

Lyric is poetry that gives emotion. An example of lyric in the poem is But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage can seldom see through his bars of rage his wings are clipped and his feet are
tied so he opens his throat to sing. (Angelou 8 14). Lyric makes the poem more serious and helps
express the poet s feelings about racism better. It adds emphasis by showing how one bird is free
and the other is trapped and restricted. The speaker of the poem is the poet. The speaker of the
poem is Maya Angelou because she is telling what it is like to be free or trapped. An example
would be The free bird leaps on the back of the win (Angelou1 2).the theme of the poem is that
being able to do your own things and make your own decisions, is better than being trapped and

32. Politics As A Method Of Resolving Conflict Essay
It is important to consider that politics is a contested concept with numerous differing views and
perspectives presented to us. These different perspectives can offer similar perspectives on the
concept of politics and what it means; whilst other times the views are strongly contrasting creating
debate on the subject. The main examples of the differing views of politicsare as follows: Politics as
the art of government; which is the more traditional view of politics. Politics as public affairs; a
view which focuses on public institutions rather than civil society. Politics as compromise and
consensus; a view which sees politics as a method of resolving conflict. The final view of politics
is the view that politics is power; this more cynical view of politics focuses more on the idea of
power within the state. This essay will serve to set out these definitions; compare and contrast them
with one another to hopefully ascertain a detailed idea of the concept of politics.
To begin we should examine what is commonly seen as the traditional view of politics: politics as
the art of government. This point of view suggests that the study of politics is solely the study of
government, the administrative arm of the state, more specifically the legislature and executive
branches with a lesser focus on the judiciary wing. Government can be seen in the following way:
... institutions responsible for making collective decisions for society. More narrowly, government

Introduction
Smoking tobacco cigarettes has been recognized as the leading cause of lung cancer and other

cigarettes, which can deliver nicotine without the vast range of carcinogens and toxins found in a
regular tobacco cigarette. Of course, this is a very controversial topic in which creates a dilemma,

other hand there is people with negative views on the use of an e cigarette as an alternative to a

point of view on the use of electronic cigarettes. I am interested to find what are college students at
CSUSB perceptions of the health impacts of electronic cigarettes? Are college students more
susceptible to use electronic cigarettes as an alternative to tobacco cigarettes?
Goals
In my research, I want to find out if perception plays a role in decision making. In this case I want
to know if college student perceptions of electronic cigarettes at CSUSB impacts their decision
making. For example, a student who believes e cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco cigarettes
is more likely to use electronic cigarettes. In the other hand, a student who believes e cigarettes are

Max Weber was a German sociologist, economist and a political leader who influenced the field
of economics and sociology with his research and theories. He is considered as one of the
founders of sociology along with Karl Marx and Г‰mile Durkheim. He was also the founder of
German Democratic Party. His works continue to inspire many economists and sociologists until

The prestige of Max Weberamong European social scientists would be difficult to over estimate.

2.Weber s Sociology
Weber defined sociology as that science which aims at the interpretive understanding of social
behaviour in order to gain an explanation of its causes, its courses, and its effects. (Denhardt, 2004)
In his sociology, Weber attempted to combine an interest driven analysis with the one that take
social behaviour into account. According to him, economic theory analysed the situation in which
a person is driven mainly by material interests and utility but did not take the behaviour of others
into account. Sociology looked at action that is driven by ideal as well as material interests that is
also oriented to the behaviour of others. There are four kinds of social actions according to Weber
s theory of sociology:
1.Zweck rational action
2.Wert rational action
3.Affectual action

35. History of the Battle of Shiloh
Introduction The Battle of Shiloh is historically known as one of the bloodiest battles of the
Civil War. Part of the Western Campaign, Shiloh came on the heels of Union victories at Fort
Henry and Fort Donelson, primarily as a Confederate attempt to halt the Union s advance into
the deep South. Though causes of the Union victory at Shiloh may be disputed, the significance
of this Battle to the War s outcome is undeniable. Analysis When, Where and Why the Battle of
Shiloh Took Place The Battle of Shiloh took place on April 6 7, 1862 (Daniel, 1997, p. 319) in
southern Tennessee s Hardin County, particularly at Pittsburg Landing (Groom, 2012, p. 41).
The short answer to why this Battle took place is that the Confederacy wanted to stop the Union
s advance far into Tennessee and eventually into Mississippi by a surprise attack on Ulysses S.
Grant s Army of the Tennessee before Union Major General Don Carlos Buell s Army of the
Ohio could arrive and join Grant s forces (Groom, 2012, p. 141). The long answer to why this
Battle took place can be found in the two prior Confederate losses at Fort Henry and Fort
Donelson in February, 1862, and the consequences of those losses. The captures of Fort Henry
and Fort Donelson were the first two Union victories since the beginning of the War on April 12,
1861 (Woodworth, 2011, p. 89). The Union capture of Fort Henry in western Tennessee on
February 6, 1862 allowed Union forces to move 12 miles east overland to Fort Donelson

Three important characters in the book give three different personalities that add up to the overall

Stradlater is one of the most non innocent characters in the story, and we see throughout the book
Holden picking fights with him. He is known to take girls on dates and rape them in the back of
his coaches car. After he takes Holden s childhood friend, Jane, on a date, he refuses to tell Holden
what they did. Holden assumes he tried to rape her and take away her innocence, and immediately
he grows in hatred toward Stradlater. The text says, I told him he didn t care because he was a

There are over 7,000 rare diseases affecting between 25 and 30 million Americans (Global Genes
2016). A disease or disorder is defined as rare in the U.S when it affects fewer than 200,000
Americans at any given time (Eurordis 2016). Some of these rare diseases come with even more
rare and controversial decisions. The FDA just made its most controversial drug approval of the
year (Fortune 2016). This injectable drug is called eteplirsen by Sarepta Therapeutics and it is an
exon skipping drug targeting a section of genetic code called exon 51 in the dystrophin gene.
Exon skipping is a type of strategy that is being developed for the rare disease DMD (Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy). The exon skipping process skips sections of genetic codes during protein
manufacturing, allowing cells to create shortened but partially functional dystrophin protein
which is the muscle protein that is missing in DMD. This rare X linked disease was first
described in the 1850 s by French neurologists Guillaume Duchenne but was not known to inhibit
the production of protein dystrophin and result in the loss of motor functions and muscular
degeneration until the 1980 s (MDA 2016). 1 in 3600 6000 live male births has resulted in DMD
