Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel
Luke, I am Your Father The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond.
Every man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons
carried on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This
unspoken bond between father and sonleads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels
a responsibility to care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him.
These themes resound in Elie Wiesel s novel Night which was written about Wiesel s experiences in
Nazi concentration camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer
experiences first hand and witnesses from afar.
When Elie s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought
with tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their
fathers as if they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a
different concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners
died that night from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by
saying, The dead remained in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen
guards....Sons abandoned the remains of their fathers without a tear, (Pg 92). Elie was horrified
by this sight and was thankful that his father was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his
father passed away that night was because they watched out for one another to make sure they
did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was always watching out for his father, and
vice versa; however, others sons wished for their fathers deaths, as to relieve a dead weight.
Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being
transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed
by a certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was
thrown into Elie s car and it was chaos. There was a certain old

American Middle Eastern Minority
American Middle Eastern Minority
One of the least known minority groups in the United States is the Middle Eastern minority.
Although the place of Middle Easterners became the forefront of public discussions recently,
especially with relation to Islam and terrorism after 9/11, Middle Easterners in the United States
have a long history. They have become part of the American society, and many second and third
generation Americans with Middle Eastern background have become publicly recognizable figures,
working in the business, political, entertainment, and media sectors as well as the U.S. military.
Among these figures are General John Abizaid, Apple Inc. co founder Steve Jobs, actress Shannon
Elizabeth, Miss USA Pageant Rima Fakih, and political and social activist Ralph Nader.
Majority of Middle Eastern Americans are of Arab descent although there is a sizable population
of Iranian Americans. It is estimated that at least 1.7 Americans are of Arab descent and over
300,000 Americans are of Iranian descent. Iranian Americans are largely concentrated in the states
of California, Texas, and Washington D.C., while Arab Americans live in all 50 states. One third
of all Arab Americans live in California, New York, and Michigan. Overwhelming majority of Arab
Americans (94%) live in metropolitan areas of New York/NJ, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, and
Washington, D.C. The largest group among Arab Americans is of Lebanese background. Most

Analysis Of Discoverie Of Witchcraft By Reginald Scot
Historical Context
Discoverie of Witchcraft was written by Reginald Scot. Reginald Scot was an English
parliamentary member . He was born in 1538 in the southeastern region of England. His father
fought was knighted by Charles V and fought alongside King Henry VIII. The knighting and
military victories fought by his father allowed for the Scot family to become members of
Parliament.
Discoverie of Witchcraft was published in 1584. During this period in English history, accusations
of witchcraft were rampant. People were so cynical about random events such as sickness and
accidents. Scapegoats seemed to be a favorable option for the public. Many innocent people,
mainly older women, were suspected as the prime offenders of many of the mysterious events that
occurred. These victims were tried and executed for their crimes .
Purpose of Discoverie of Witchcraft
The purpose of this passage was to persuade the clergy and public to stop persecuting innocent
people for crimes that could not be proven. Scot, during his lifetime, had seen many witch trials
and believed that witchcraft, in the way the public believed it worked, was impossible. He used
deductive reasoning to try and persuade his colleagues that the pursuit of witches was senseless and
harmful. The piece was produced publicly. Its intended audience was the clergy, public and
magistracy. Scot wanted them to stop the madness of witch hunting.
Main Points of the Passage
The piece had several main points that he employed

Therapy Dogs Essay
As the saying goes, a dog is a man s best friend. The dog is a loving companion to a man. He is
happy to go everywhere with his master. He shows his affection for his master by wagging his tail
and licking his hand or face. This timeless relationship continues to evolve into new kinds of
human dog interactions that increasingly benefit society. This has led to the belief that dogs can
provide company, affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who
feel lonely. Dogs have aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding.
However, as society moved from small rural communities to increasingly large metropolitan areas,
the dog s role changed. Throughout the years a more specific type of... Show more content on

As a result, Smoky became the first therapy dog we know of. (Visser 2013) There are between 45
to 55 million dogs per household in America (American Humane Association 2012). Furthermore,
according to a national survey, the majority of dog owners chose to get a dog for the
companionship as the major reason for having a dog (American Animal Hospital Association,
2004). After all, dogs are nonjudgmental, give unconditional love, can be trusted with our most
intimate feelings and emotions, and are highly intelligent. These dog characteristics can
significantly enhance the lives of thousands of youth and adults, especially those with disabilities
and/or those who live in continuing care facilities. There are approximately 20,000 service dogs in
the U.S., which includes 10,000 guide dogs (American Humane Association 2012) Most of the
therapy dogs come from a selective breeding program known as the American Kennel Club (AKC).
These dogs go through several months of obedience training and must be able to strictly follow
commands. These dogs must also feel comfortable in the presence of wheelchairs, walkers,
crutches, oxygen tanks, food carts, and any other equipment patients and therapists use. A number
of studies have demonstrated that the presence of therapy dogs serve to increase the quantity and

Given that she is but a wife of an English poet, she first justifies her reach in writing this letter by
explaining how she feels that her reading of such high and mighty men have equip her enough that
she may dare write this letter. In fact, she takes advantage of the vast difference in status to reach

that he is great enough and claiming that she has trusted [him] for doing greatly. She writes herself

The finalization of the transcontinental railroad ultimately allowed Chinese labors to explore
further employment opportunities in western regions.
In 1860, only 2,719 Chinese resided in San Francisco, representing 7.8 percent of the Chinese
population In California. Ten years later, the Chinese population in the city had soared to 12,022, a
343 percent increase. Meanwhile, San Francisco had begun to develop as a locus of industry, it had
about two hundred manufacturing firms employing fifteen hundred workers. Ten years later, with
nearly one fourth of California s Chinese population living there, San Francisco had more than
twelve thousand laborers employed in industrial production and was the ninth leading
manufacturing city in the United States. Half of the labor force in the city s four key industries boot

Jfk Assassination Conspiracy Essay
After the assassination of John F. Kennedy, there were a lot of conspiracies regarding the
mastermind behind the assassination. President Kennedy was assassinated due to him seeking
a way out of the Cold war and starting negotiations with Soviet Union. Charlene Fitsimmons, a
friend of JFK was told by an agent named Gary Underhill that he was killed by CIA and that
Oswald was a CIA agent. He was helped and was set up by CIA to go for it. According to Gary,
there were clear evidences of how they made their way through and he couldn t believe that they
got away with it but they did.
A renowned writer named Matthew Smith writes in his book JFK: The Second Plot that Lee
Harvey Oswald was serving in Marines when he was recruited as a CIA agent. A former CIA
man, Wilcott claimed that Oswald had been recruited from the military for the express purpose of
becoming a double agent assignment. Oswald was under very little freedom under the soviets and
soviets were quite suspicious of him, so CIA decided to bring Oswald back home for good.

The New York Times Coverage Of The Holocaust
This research topic was on the New York Times coverage of the Holocaust. When first starting
this report the idea of how the Holocaust was treated in the United States never truly came to
mind. After doing a research project on it, the things that came up was some unbelievable stuff.
The American reporting on the Holocaust was absolutely atrocious, in one of the biggest
genocides in all of history, almost half of the American people didn t even know about the
Holocaust and still to this day most people don t know much about it; One of the biggest
newspapers out at this time failed in getting important information out to the American people, and
the sad part about it all is that not only did the newspaper know about it, but the President of the
United States as well. Unpublished Information The New York Times had all the information on
what was happening in Europe, however even though the editors knew the information just
DIMINISHED. The thing I truly never understood is that, why would reporters have information
and never publish what they truly could. Its essence became knowable very fast, from Nazi threats
and undisputed eyewitness reports collected by Americans agents (Gonchar). The original sin of
neglecting the Holocaust and the current trend that has seen unprecedented coverage of alleged
genocides may very well be linked, (Kersten). The New York Times, the nation s leading
newspaper, didn t report on the full effect of the killing of the Jews. ( The United

The History Of The Modern Monitor
The History of the Modern Monitor What is a monitor? I myself, once thought of the monitor as
merely an object sitting on my desk, displaying information from my computer. I never gave a
second thought about a monitor s appearance or how a monitor worked in the first place. After
reading through various books and articles, I have now obtained a different outlook on the
subject; what I once saw as a simple desktop monitor, I now see as a magnificent invention
people often overlook. From cathode ray tubes (CRT s) to organic light emitting diodes (OLED
s), the modern monitor has undergone many technological innovations to reach its current status
( History of Monitor Displays ). As a result of the monitor s rapid success, the average American
household is now home to a wide variety of monitors: laptop monitors, desktop monitors, and
several television monitors. How did it all begin? The very first monitor consisted only of
lightbulbs that blinked when information was being transferred from a computer. This
technology allowed the scientist to depict information being read by a computer (Edwards 2).
Digital displays didn t make their first appearance till the 1920s; using the cathode ray
technology pioneered by Sir William Crooke in 1878, Kenjiro Takayamagi made images appear
on a screen, known as the first black and white television. The development of CVTs as computer
monitors didn t happen till color television was developed after World War II. People wanted to use

Caesar, Hannibal, and Alexander the Great Essay
It was the leadership of Caesar, Alexander, and Hannibal that heavily influenced the Roman society,
the ancient world, and the western civilization. Ambition drove Alexander the Great to conquer the
unconquered, propelled Caesar to the top of the political spectrum with no birthright, and helped
Hannibal defeat a dominent society in the ancient world. It was Julius Caesars successful military
tactics, his drive to the top of the political society, and his succession without the right, privilege,
and possession to which a person is entitled to by birth. Alexander, and Hannibal proved to be
superior leaders, and military geniuses, but above all Julius Caesar was the greater of the three.

He seized a shield from a soldier in the rear ranks, pushed his way to the front, called upon
centurions by name, then sounded the charge. The mere gesture revived his men and made them
surge forward. At the end of the day, The Nervii were hacked to pieces.[3]
Caesar s compassion and intelligence shined through. This exposed that Julius Caesar cared for his
troops, by taking the time and effort to support his men by assisting them in a battle, and an effort
to remember centurions names to move them onward. The intelligence of these great military
leaders impacted and determined there success, but Julius Caesar s presence on the battle field not
only struck fear in the enemy but instilled so high a moral boost that victory could be snatched out
of the jaws of defeat.
Ambition is a driving factor, that impels a being to be successful, conquer the unconquered, and
achieve never ending glory. Alexander s ambition drove him to achieve a past generations goal,
Alexander now took on a project the Philip had planned but never carried out: an invasion of Persia
[4] Alexander was ambitious to implement this task that was not attained by his deceased father.
Undeniably after subduing Greece, dominating Indian territories at the Hydespas River, and pursing
through Persia, Alexander still wanted to push onward. Hannibal on the other hand, was driven to

Matthew Murphy Nyquist English 5 30 April 2015 Reservations or Restrictions According to
2010 US Census projections, 22% of our nation s 5.2 million Native Americans live on
reservations or tribal land. This may not seem to be an alarming statistic to most people.
However, upon further examination of the living conditions, education, and life altering effects
that go along with living on an Indian reservation, this statistic may appear slightly more
alarming. The effects of growing up on a reservation is a commonly overlooked topic that many
don t give a second glance. Unfortunately, there are issues that should be seen by the common

reservations in the US. In the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by

It would also be imperative that the survey be performed on stores at different distances from a
Wal Mart store. This evaluation of survey results could then be compared to determine the real
effects of the Wal Mart phenomenon. The quality of jobs and consumer shopping habits
affected by Wal Mart could be determined by a phone or mail survey. This type of survey is
inexpensive and could be used to reach a large number of people, thereby creating accurate
results. If the hypothesis is correct, this type of survey could determine that Wal Mart is reducing
the overall earning power of American workers and shaping the shopping habits of the consumer.
A collection of data and research of the effects on American business and society by Wal Mart is
truly needed. On the surface it appears that the inexpensive products are a plus to the consumer,
but the tactics that the retail giant is using appears to have enduring results for the economy and

A Comparison of Death of a Naturalist and Digging by Seamus Heaney
The poems Death of a Naturalist and Digging have many similarities, and contrasts. Some of the
reoccurring themes in the two poems include memories of childhood and changes in the life of the
writer. There are contrasts too, in Death of a Naturalist ; the writer is concentrating on himself and
his own experiences in life, rather than the experiences of others. In Digging , the opposite is true,
as the writer concentrates mainly on the events in other people s lives, namely his father and
grandfather. The endings of both the poems have a different feel to them. Digging finishes in a
much more positive tone than Death of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Death of Naturalist is about a young boy, his love for nature and how he relishes every aspect of
the countryside. A part of this passion is being aware of a host of small things that many people
would find insignificant; animals, frogspawn and all the noises of life around him. This changes in
the second stanza. The poet has a change of heart and he seems to retreat from the nature he
previously loved. He writes:
I sickened, turned and ran
So we can see he doesn t feel the same passion about nature any more, it was a death of the
naturalist.
Digging is about a young man who feels that he is not worthy to follow in his father s footsteps.
He tells the reader about how great his father and grandfather were, but throughout the poem he
says very little about himself. Towards the end his mind is changed. Although his ancestors were
hard working men who earned their living through digging, he feels that his writing is a worthy
path to follow. He will dig with his pen.
Toward the end of both these poems the feelings change. In each poem the writer feels one thing at
the beginning, but toward the conclusion his mind is changed, either for the better, in Digging , or
for the worse, in Death of a Naturalist . It could be said that he had a change in perspective.
Even so, both poems have a deeper

The Article, Stereotypical Constructions Of The Maori ...
The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall
(1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand
had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the
stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities,
including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The
article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori
Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media.
In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She
mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the
construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is
also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the
unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the
identity of specific Maori.
Wall speaks about four main Maori stereotypes within the Media; The Comic Other, The Primitive
Natural Athlete, The Radical Political Activist, and The Quintessential Maori. These are shown in
fairly modern contexts as well as earlier contexts.

remains the same as Tristram s trials as a knight stem from his own actions. When Morholt, the

washed up on the shores of Ireland. There, the Irish princess, Iseult the Fair, heals him. Upon his

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Esters
The chemicals used in the making of esters, food flavourants, contribute to health problems in
humans such as allergies, behavioral problems, tumors and many other health problems. The
carboxylic acids and alcohols used in ester formation are the reason for the health problems as
these chemicals are harmful to the human body. Esters are also used in the production of foods
that have edible oils and fats, n amyl butyrate is an example of these types of esters and it causes
health issues such as cardiovascular diseases (Department of Health Human Services, 2014).
These esters are those used as flavourants to give off the odor of apple (College, 2017). Esters are

For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide Analysis
Sexual objectification occurs when a person s body or body parts are treated as objects to be
coveted or desired. Women face sexual objectification everyday and Shange, in her novel For
Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide, takes several women from ambiguous backgrounds to
reiterate the challenges a womanfaces in trying to maintain agency over her body through the
ubiquitous nature of sexual objectification and its ability to perpetuate genderviolence. The first
introduction we experience from the women is their challenge with sexuality and embracing
their bodies. The graduation story is a story about a black girl who feels sexually liberated after
losing her virginity. The poem ends with the line, in the backseat of that ol buick/wow//by
daybreak/ I just couldn t stop grinnin (Shange 8). The young girl portrays that rite of passage from
adolescence to adult after her first sexual experience. Yet there is still that feel of naivety that
clings to her since society has not yet diminished her sense of sexual power. Shange depicts a

Counseling, Reflection, And Setting Goals
In my first six sessions, it seemed to me the mindset of the counselor in the session is one of the
tantamount elements in dictating the outcome of the client s experience. The first session I
experienced brought on nervousness and uncertainty which led to insecurity. However, the more
time I spent listening to my client the more comfortable I became with the role of counselor. Such
feelings of comfort brought with it the ability to be more self aware and client focused in the
session. When I was uncomfortable I asked confusing questions, focused too much on how I
looked, and lost the ability to attend to my client. I believe I came into these sessions strong in my
nonverbal skills and encouragers. Nevertheless, I struggled with focused counseling, reflectionof
emotions, and setting goals. Intentionality seems to be significant in the growth process; therefore,
one of my first actions in response to these reflectionswill be to create a plan to address my
opportunities for growth. The discomfort I experienced in my first couple of sessions stemmed
from several different issues. Primarily, these feelings came from nerves. I have wanted to be an
LPC for years, and being put in the role of actually counseling made me nervous I would not
measure up. Moreover, I feared making the situation for my client worse because of something I
would say or ask. Because of these feelings, I lacked professionalism at times during my first
session. I laughed too often, and in inappropriate

Oaths Euphemisms
A euphemism is the substitution of an agreeable or less offensive expression in place of one that
may offend or suggest something unpleasant to the listener;[1] or in the case of doublespeak, to
make it less troublesome for the speaker.[citation needed] It also may be a substitution of a
description of something or someone rather than the name, to avoid revealing secret, holy, or sacred
names to the uninitiated, or to obscure the identity of the subject of a conversation from potential
eavesdroppers. Some euphemisms are intended to be funny.

The common names of illicit drugs, and the plants used to obtain them, often undergo a process
similar to taboo deformation, because new terms are devised in order to discuss them secretly in
the presence of others. This process often occurs in English (e.g. speed or crank for meth). It occurs
even more in Spanish, e.g. the deformation of names for cannabis: mota (lit., something which
moves on the black market), replacing grifa (lit., something coarse to the touch ), replacing
marihuana (a female personal name, MarГa Juana), replacing caГ±amo (the original Spanish name
for the plant, derived from the Latin genus name Cannabis). All four of these names are still used in
various parts of the Hispanophone world, although caГ±amo ironically has the least underworld
connotation, and is often used to describe industrial hemp, or legitimate medically prescribed
cannabis.
[edit] The Euphemism Treadmill
Euphemisms often evolve over time into taboo words themselves, through a process described by
W.V.O. Quine, and more recently dubbed the euphemism treadmill by Steven Pinker. (cf. Gresham
s Law in economics). This is the well known linguistic process known as pejoration.

The Rocket Man Theme
The Rocket Man
Well, it wasn t Mars, and it wasn t Venus, and it wasn t Jupiter or Saturn that killed him. We
wouldn t have to think of him every time Jupiter or Saturn or Mars lit up the evening sky. This
was different. (Bradbury 74). Doug s words in The Rocket Man goes on track of what the book s
theme is. Throughout The Illustrated Man, the theme is that decisions in life can be consequential.
The theme of decisions made in life can be consequential can be seen in the novel, The Illustrated
Man by Ray Bradbury of the story, The Rocket Man, where Dad s decision of going up to space
affects his relationship with his wife, how it has put him in a state of exhaustion, and where Dad
ends up, it changes Mother and Doug.
As the story begins, The Rocket Man, it is shown that the decisions made can form a bitter
impact on others. It is revealed in the text of the story, that Mother and Dad do not have the
strongest relationship. In the beginning, Mother shows an obvious disinterest towards the thought
of Dad travelling to space, then coming back to Earth every three months. It s not only because
she asked Doug for help to convince Dad to stay in space, but she also says certain phrases that
represent her disinterest. Once she said the light was too strong at night. But there s no moon this
week, I said. There s starlight, she said. (Bradbury 67). Bradbury portrays Mother in this
conversation as a dispirited person. Someone who is worn down from not seeing her

Louis Contributions Of The Jazz Music Scene
Musical Style Louis made many contributions to the evolution of jazz as he learned and adapted
his style. His use of harmonies and improvisation was before his time and he helped shape the
whole genre as it was evolving. His technique with his trumpet playing and how the sound played
off of the other instruments was unparalleled at the time. His contributions and techniques play a
large part in changing jazzmusic from a folksy sound to more of the swing sound we attribute to
the genre today. Armstrong had amazing timing and rhythm as well as an ear for the music which
set him above the rest and propelled him to the top of the jazz music scene. In his songs you can
hear how much his trumpet stands out and the level of skill during trumpet solos and how he uses
the tone and vibrato of the instrument in order to give the sound we, to this day, associate with
him. His technique at the trumpet was revolutionary for the time and Armstrong would help shape
what the Jazz movement would become. (Ramsey) Philosophy
Louis grew up in a negative environment and understood how bad life could be and because of
this he tried to always make people smile. He was a humble man, even though being one of the
greatest celebrities of the twentieth Century (Louis). He was an Entertainer, not just an artist and
wanted to touch as many people he could with his music and wanted everyone to have a good

Big Brother Symbolism
Big Brother: Protector or Dark Representative As far as the eye can see, the posters so bold and
ubiquitous boast Big Brother Is Watching You (Orwell 3). He is the leader of the Party, yet he
is also the government itself; he is a symbol representing much more than what is implied. In
1984 by George Orwell, Big Brother represents the darkness behind the Party. This dark
symbolism is evident in big brother s name using the principles of doublespeak, similarities
between big brother and dictators, big brother s totalitarian like action and purpose, and the fear
caused by big brother s unceasing watch on his people. Though Big Brother is a symbol for the
Party s darkness, some readers interpret his character as harmless. Afterall, big brother is a name

Much like Hitler, Franco, and Stalin, Big Brother is worshipped by his followers, though the
worship of Big Brother is especially important because it takes place of outlawed organized
religion ( 1984 236). In addition to this, Big Brother also knows that truth is textual and thusly
creates the Ministry of Truth to dispose of books and other such documentation of stories that do
not suit his needs, much like how Hitler burned books for the same purpose (Ingersoll). This
knowledge was carried out to such an extent that Big Brother could rewrite astronomy to make the
stars mere miles away from Earth if such a truth accorded with the unrestrained exercise of power
by the Party (Ingersoll). Another example of Big Brother s similarity to dictators can be found

community and the education system, specifically within the Counselling profession. The Bringing

forced removal of Indigenous Children is implemented into tertiary studies. This essay will begin
by exploring the segregation and forced assimilation of Indigenous peopleswhich commenced in the

Bringing Them Home Report and the impact this has had on Indigenous Australian peoples and
Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities, including the ongoing effects to the current
day. Finally it will explore how the Counselling profession can benefit from educating
undergraduates on the effects of forcible removal.

American people have had to experience over time. LaDuke uses Aristotelian appeals such as

The Big Bang Theory Of Sarcasm
1.Chin s main point about sarcasm is that it is very useful and that it is an necesary tool to
understanding each other, especially in our culture. Chin says, Sarcasm detection is an essential
skill if one is going to function in a modern society dripping with irony. The people that can t
detect sarcasm are socially inept, so to speak, because they will take what is said at face value,
instead of understanding the nuances of what isn t being said. 2.Sarcasm is a neurological ability,
not just a style of talking that some people use. It takes more brain power to percieve irony than
regular conversation does. Like mental bodybuilding, it forces the brain to extend itself to
understand what the truth is behind the sarcasm. The article states that, Sarcasm seems to exercise

Someone who can not understand sarcasm can stand out from others in social situations, like
the character Sheldon Cooper on the tv show The Big Bang Theory. Although his character is a
genius, he has to work harder to understand some of the most basic interactions between the other
characters. The ability to detect sarcasm is a natural occurence in most people from ages as
young as four years old. People that are unable to detect sarcasm may be autistic, have had brain
injuries or lesions, or be schizophrenic. Dementia can cause a person to lose the ability to detect
sarcasm and may be one of the early signs of the disease. 4.In Greek, sarcasm means to tear flesh
like dogs. Another way to say this would be that the mean, cutting remarks of sarcasm can hurt
someone. An example would be when someone is being sarcastic, but the intention of the remark is
to hurt or demean the person it is being said to. People that are trying to percieve themselves to be
more popular than they are might be more prone to this, as a defense mechanism against what
others might think about

The Tragedy of Commercialism in College Sports
Over the past 25 years, ESPN has become the master when it comes to marketing college

ESPN has made superstars out of college basketball coaches and even TV analysts like Dick
Vitale. The station has created national followings for some of the sports elite programs. Want to
watch Duke? Just flip on ESPN or ESPN2, where the Blue Devils had 16 of their regular season
games televised last season (Timmermann). The relationship that ESPN has forged with college
basketball is both symbiotic and parasitic. The mutual benefit is obvious; ESPN has successfully
launched itself as a primer cable sports network and thanks to the network, college basketball has
become one of the most profitable collegiate sports, rivaling the once invincible college football.
But ESPN has built its empire off the labor of unpaid college athletes. The increasing dollar
amount of TV contracts and growing commercialism in college basketball is proof that ESPN is
willing to exploit amateur athletes in the name of increasing profit margins. With no other network
and no other sport is this symbiotic and parasitic relationship between media and college athletics
made more apparent.
In today s media saturated culture, sports programming has become a big business. The sporting

Different Style, Different Register?
Essay question: Does style influence register or register influence style?
Language is an interesting topic to discuss. Basically, Language is defined as a system of
communication by sound, i.e., through the organs of speech and hearing, among human beings of
certain group or community, using vocal symbols possessing arbitrary conventional meaning.[1] It
means people use language to communicate and socialize among them. Language can be studied
internally or externally. Internal discussion of language encompasses the structure of language such

The notion of register presents the interface between the use of specific code and a particular
configuration of situational variables. One way of pinpointing a register is to identify a
communicative event along the dimensions.[11] Halliday distinguishes three general types of
dimension: field , mode and tenor .[12] The three dimensions will be discusses point by point.
The first point of dimensions is field . Field is social setting and purpose of the interaction.[13]
Moreover, Hudson stated field is concerned with the purpose and subject matter the
communication.[14] From the two opinions, it is clear that field deals with the purpose of
interaction. In the case of an academic article in a professional journal, for example, the field
should be the subject matter of the article, and the purpose in publishing it would be to spread the
argument and ideas among academic colleagues.[15] The second point is tenor . Tenor depends on
the relations between participants.[16] In addition, Stockwell mentioned that tenor refers to the
relationship between the participants in the event.[17] For example, when a student is talking to a
teacher, an offender to a police officer, an office worker to a superior, or a

The use of JIT will help the company increase their efficiency by cut down on wait time and
processing, all of which will translate to increased productivity and hence profitability. According
to Heizer Render (2011) employee training is vital to the success of a company, this is so true of
MICI, because of the extensive standard training and cross training of the MICI employees will
translate to increased efficiency, productivity flexibility, decreased wait time for customers and as
history has depicted, costumers satisfaction is integral to the success of a company because
customers are the major drivers in the market.
The layout strategy is another concept the book touched on, the new layout of the claims
department will allow for better workflow. It will also improve claims time, employee
empowerment due to the proximity of workers to each order and flow of work in the cell,
flexibility of the various equipment used by the company (Heizer Render, 2011).
Overall Ms.is using the fundamental principle of the JIT, work cell concept, the concept of
employees development, concept revamping and old system that is nonfunctional with the help of
the of experts and the people who actually work in the field. All of which, will hopefully increase
throughput, increase flexibility, reduce variability and give MICI a competitive advantage in the
market.

Social Media And The Media
However, Contrary to the idea that social media creates a polarizing filter bubble, exposing
people to only a narrow range of opinions, 70 percent of Millennials say that their social media
feeds are comprised of diverse viewpoints evenly mixed between those similar to and different
from their own. (American Press Institute, 2015, p. 3) This disputes the notion that everybody who
engages in social media receive a uniform message, and these diverse viewpoints also enables users

The study found Americans are selective consumers with behaviors varying reliant on the topic.
With this in mind we can hope groups other than millennials are not receiving a likeminded point
of view even if a clear proclamation cannot be made. All in all a multitude of voices talking
about assorted topics can only be good for public discourse, and could potentially impact
mobilization. The preceding paragraphs were aimed at providing a baseline of knowledge, show
that social media provides a wide variety of information, and to establish that its worthy of
investigation. At the moment there is a lack of research aimed at determining the impact of the
public s use of social media on Agenda setting, and priming. Yet, there has been research
regarding social media and mobilization that is quite promising. Thus far, mobilization is where
social media has seen its greatest impact. Mobilization is defined as, the process by which
candidates, parties, activists and groups induce other people to participate (Rosenstone Hansen,
1993, p. 25). When taking the definition for mobilization into account it is easy to understand why
social media has shown promise in this area. Social media supplies activists with the ability to
circulate information, and information is the means by which political activists recruit new
members. Social media also creates vast networks that . . . allow people to assemble as individuals,

The time period in which Fitzgerald lived played an extensive role in his work. Fitzgerald is one

Analysis Of Blackbeard s Life Was Full Of Excitement

Blackbeard
From working for the British on a Privateer then moving to Jamaica and taking up piracy,
Blackbeard s life was full of excitement.
Blackbeard was known as Edward Teach was British. It was believed that Teach was born in the
1680 s. He was operating in Jamaica as a privateer. Privateers are a private, armed boat hired by
the Government during the War of the Spanish Succession or Queen Anne s War. During the war
in Teach had become a very skillful sea robber. By the end of the war in 1716 Teach as most of the
privateers moved to Jamaica to take up piracy (Kirkpatrick). When Teach became a pirate he

When Blackbeard captured the La Concorde he found satisfying so, he took the ship as his own.
Teach change the name to Queen Anne s Revenge made some changes to the ship. He added an
estimated 14 canons on the ship which change the number from 26 to 40 canons. So now the
once French cargo ship is now a 110ft, 300 ton ship with 40 canons (Hamilton 8 9). Aboard the
Queen Anne s Revenge Blackbeard never let his crew forget who was incharge. Some of
Blackbeard s crew was foolish enough to accept a crazy challenge. The challenge was to see who
could stay below deck in a room while sulfur was burning the longest. Once the the sulfur was lit
crew members were running to get above on the deck and soon all of the crew members were
out in the open gasping for fresh air. The last one to come out was of course Blackbeard. Teach
once shot one of his own crewmen over a drunken game of poker. Once Blackbeard even said that
If he didn t kill one of his crew members once in awhile, they would forget who he was (Hamilton
16).
When Blackbeard attack he put fear into people s eyes. His long black beard which gave him the
nickname Blackbeard and his mad man s look. Charles Johnson wrote in his book A General
History of the Pyrates, published in London in 1726 This Beard was black, which he suffered to

Cause Of The Civil War
This historical study will define the causes of the Civil War by understanding the divisive nature of
the southern agrarian and northern industrial economies. In the Antebellum era, the South relied
heavily on the production of cash crops, such as cotton and tobacco, that relied heavily on a
plantation economy. Southern plantation owners also relied heavily on slave labor, which
prevented more fluid labor markets from encouraging industrialization. Plantation owners did not
want the advanced agricultural machinery used by northern industries, since the slave trade was
highly profitable system of trade in and unto itself. In the North, the rapid advancement of industry
had a greater mobility in labor markets, since wage labor replaced the slave... Show more content on

More so, it identifies the exponential development of Northern industry, which vastly
outperformed the South of economic output and military power. Of course, the South was
uninterested in developing its own large industrial factories because it challenged the agrarian
reliance on slave labor. This is part of the passage from slavery to contract that was causing so
much strife before the Civil War, which led to open warfare between the North and the South.
These irreconcilable differences were part of the continual rift between the agrarian economy of the
South and the rapidly growing industrial economy during the antebellum era. The industrialization
of the North was part of a diversification of the economy, which slowly abandoned the tenets of
slavery in the late 18th century and into the early 19th century. However, the South continued to
support an increase in slave ownership that eventually became a large scale business in the
agrarian labor markets. These are important causes of the Civil War that relied heavily on the
inability of the North and the South to integrate more cooperative economic relationships as a
result of the conflict of slave labor and voluntary wage labor in the mid 19th

No Name Woman Analysis
One s identity can t be given before one achieves a sense of character through self reflection and
personal experience. In No Name Woman Maxine Hong Kingston narrates the tale of her
unmarried aunt who is obliged to suffer the consequences of her pregnancy in the ambiguous world
of her Chinese roots. We are not given a name for the narrator nor for her family. We therefore
might wonder who might be considered a No name Woman both in the book s world and in our
own. With the oxymoron No Name Woman, Kingston calls attention to reconcile both her Chinese
and American identities to and mold her own identity as a result. This makes us think more deeply
about the multiple meanings of Chinese experience in America. Kingston instantly outlines... Show

In Chinese culture, water ghosts (Shui gui) are the spirits of people who drowned. Shui Gui are
known for lurking in the place they died to drag gullible victims underwater to drown them and
take possession of their bodies. With this in mind, the villagers had another reason to keep the
aunt s history hidden as they feared to suffer the consequences of slandering her as a shameful
outcast. The aspects of Chinese society come together near the end of the story. Kingston s
metaphors such as round moon cakes and doorways represent the circle of Chinese life: The idea
that every villager has a place in the tight circle that is Chinese society. The roundness also indicates
that the family functions as a whole, with each generation dependent on the other. Chinese tradition
is what fuels this circle; it establishes the cultural norms and practices that define what it means to
be Chinese. Not only does this circle represent ancestral relations, it also represents the circle of

The Death, Burial, And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ
Why did they wait until 100 pages into the book to write this chapter? Earlier in the book when
they said that I might want to set down the book they were right. This chapter has some really
helpful concepts validated by scripture and explained with helpful models that should get every
Christian excited about ministry to the city. This chapter is about sharing the good news with
people and grabbing their attention and respect with goo deeds. This chapter is about the death,
burial, and resurrection of JesusChrist. This chapter is also about loving the city and living in the
city in away that is compatible with the needs and dreams of the city. This is my favorite chapter
in the book by far. It contains a really solid biblical theology for loving the city. I ve never seen
any Christian in my life raise a person from the dead in the name of God. I may never see a
supernatural miracle in my life, but I m certainly not going to say that it can t happen. Maybe we
just don t have enough faith to raise people from the dead in the name of Jesus. More commonly
I think we have the ability to transform the city though doing unwarranted acts of kindness in
our community. In Galatians 2 Paul extorts us to remember the poor in good deeds of service. Let
us be eager to serve in this way but not forget to share the life saving word of God. Paul also
models for us in Romans 1 when he says he is eager to share the gospeland that it is the power of
God s salvation for all that believe.

The characters had a major role because they were effective with the audience. The film was
even more enhanced with the combination of the director and the casts. It affected me in such a
way that I would react with how the characters would say and make decisions. However, the film
lacks information about Sabine also an important character in the film. I was hoping more of a
short inclusion of a psychological explanation of Sabine s reflection with what her parents are
doing. I would want the question how does it affected her? to be answered, even with the last few
scenes of the film where Jim and Catherine had died.
FILM ANALYSIS
The Title, Jules and Jim centralizes both on the main characters who both fell in love with the
person who controlled and ruined their strengths and weaknesses their lives. The basis of the title
of the film was mainly because of the friendship of the two men. This film focused on their
relationship with the hindrance of a character: Catherine, in which gave the two a more meaningful
and questionable friendship.
The movie started with a short introduction of how the foundation of Jules and Jim s friendship
flourished all throughout the years to be able to show and to keep the attachment with the audience
of how these two have grown together but declined as they met Catherine. This foundation of their
friendship served as the basis for the audience on how they will be judged and understood upon

  • 2. Father Son Relationship In Night By Elie Wiesel Luke, I am Your Father The relationship between fathers and their sons is an unbreakable bond. Every man who finds out his spouse is having a baby, wishes for a son. All throughout history, sons carried on the family name and honor, and parts of that honor system still remain today. This unspoken bond between father and sonleads to many other aspects of the relationship. A son feels a responsibility to care for his father when he is ailing, because the father does the same for him. These themes resound in Elie Wiesel s novel Night which was written about Wiesel s experiences in Nazi concentration camps. This novel revolves around the father/son relationship in which Eliezer experiences first hand and witnesses from afar. When Elie s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Eliezer was horrified by the thought, let alone to witness it with his own eyes. Eliezer fought with tooth and nail to be able to keep his father close and alive. Other men just abandoned their fathers as if they were merely a burden. After long hours of running and marching towards a different concentration camp, the prisoners were finally able to take a break. Several prisoners died that night from exhaustion. When it was time to leave, Eliezer describes the scene by saying, The dead remained in the yard, under the snow without even a marker, like fallen guards....Sons abandoned the remains of their fathers without a tear, (Pg 92). Elie was horrified by this sight and was thankful that his father was still alive. The only reason neither Elie or his father passed away that night was because they watched out for one another to make sure they did not pass away. That is an incredible bond. Elie was always watching out for his father, and vice versa; however, others sons wished for their fathers deaths, as to relieve a dead weight. Some sons abused their fathers in order to show their personal strength. When everyone was being transferred to another concentration camp, the men were not given food. When the train passed by a certain German city, the onlookers threw bread into the train cars. A piece of bread was thrown into Elie s car and it was chaos. There was a certain old ... • 5. Analysis Of Discoverie Of Witchcraft By Reginald Scot Historical Context Discoverie of Witchcraft was written by Reginald Scot. Reginald Scot was an English parliamentary member . He was born in 1538 in the southeastern region of England. His father fought was knighted by Charles V and fought alongside King Henry VIII. The knighting and military victories fought by his father allowed for the Scot family to become members of Parliament. Discoverie of Witchcraft was published in 1584. During this period in English history, accusations of witchcraft were rampant. People were so cynical about random events such as sickness and accidents. Scapegoats seemed to be a favorable option for the public. Many innocent people, mainly older women, were suspected as the prime offenders of many of the mysterious events that occurred. These victims were tried and executed for their crimes . Purpose of Discoverie of Witchcraft The purpose of this passage was to persuade the clergy and public to stop persecuting innocent people for crimes that could not be proven. Scot, during his lifetime, had seen many witch trials and believed that witchcraft, in the way the public believed it worked, was impossible. He used deductive reasoning to try and persuade his colleagues that the pursuit of witches was senseless and harmful. The piece was produced publicly. Its intended audience was the clergy, public and magistracy. Scot wanted them to stop the madness of witch hunting. Main Points of the Passage The piece had several main points that he employed ... • 7. Therapy Dogs Essay As the saying goes, a dog is a man s best friend. The dog is a loving companion to a man. He is happy to go everywhere with his master. He shows his affection for his master by wagging his tail and licking his hand or face. This timeless relationship continues to evolve into new kinds of human dog interactions that increasingly benefit society. This has led to the belief that dogs can provide company, affection and support to people who are going through a difficult time or who feel lonely. Dogs have aided humans in tasks such as hunting, livestock herding, and guarding. When first starting this report the idea of how the Holocaust was treated in the United States never truly came to mind. After doing a research project on it, the things that came up was some unbelievable stuff. The American reporting on the Holocaust was absolutely atrocious, in one of the biggest genocides in all of history, almost half of the American people didn t even know about the Holocaust and still to this day most people don t know much about it; One of the biggest newspapers out at this time failed in getting important information out to the American people, and the sad part about it all is that not only did the newspaper know about it, but the President of the United States as well. The thing I truly never understood is that, why would reporters have information and never publish what they truly could. Its essence became knowable very fast, from Nazi threats and undisputed eyewitness reports collected by Americans agents (Gonchar). • 12. The History Of The Modern Monitor The History of the Modern Monitor What is a monitor? I myself, once thought of the monitor as merely an object sitting on my desk, displaying information from my computer. I never gave a second thought about a monitor s appearance or how a monitor worked in the first place. After reading through various books and articles, I have now obtained a different outlook on the subject; what I once saw as a simple desktop monitor, I now see as a magnificent invention people often overlook. From cathode ray tubes (CRT s) to organic light emitting diodes (OLED s), the modern monitor has undergone many technological innovations to reach its current status ( History of Monitor Displays ). As a result of the monitor s rapid success, the average American household is now home to a wide variety of monitors: laptop monitors, desktop monitors, and several television monitors. How did it all begin? The very first monitor consisted only of lightbulbs that blinked when information was being transferred from a computer. This technology allowed the scientist to depict information being read by a computer (Edwards 2). Digital displays didn t make their first appearance till the 1920s; using the cathode ray technology pioneered by Sir William Crooke in 1878, Kenjiro Takayamagi made images appear on a screen, known as the first black and white television. The development of CVTs as computer monitors didn t happen till color television was developed after World War II. People wanted to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was Julius Caesars successful military tactics, his drive to the top of the political society, and his succession without the right, privilege, and possession to which a person is entitled to by birth. The mere gesture revived his men and made them surge forward. At the end of the day, The Nervii were hacked to pieces.[3] Caesar s compassion and intelligence shined through. This exposed that Julius Caesar cared for his troops, by taking the time and effort to support his men by assisting them in a battle, and an effort to remember centurions names to move them onward. The intelligence of these great military leaders impacted and determined there success, but Julius Caesar s presence on the battle field not only struck fear in the enemy but instilled so high a moral boost that victory could be snatched out of the jaws of defeat. Matthew Murphy Nyquist English 5 30 April 2015 Reservations or Restrictions According to 2010 US Census projections, 22% of our nation s 5.2 million Native Americans live on reservations or tribal land. This may not seem to be an alarming statistic to most people. However, upon further examination of the living conditions, education, and life altering effects that go along with living on an Indian reservation, this statistic may appear slightly more alarming. The effects of growing up on a reservation is a commonly overlooked topic that many don t give a second glance. Unfortunately, there are issues that should be seen by the common person and with the knowledge of these issues, can possibly alter a person outlook on reservations in the US. In the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie, the author sheds light on the darkness of growing up on a reservation by telling a semi auto biographical story about a teen struggling with dissimilar aspirations. Biography: Sherman Alexie was born in Spokane, Washington, on October 7th, 1966. His parents were both of Native American descent, albeit two different tribes. He grew up on the Spokane Indian reservation. Alexie was born with Hydrocephalus, which is also known as water on the brain. It would also be imperative that the survey be performed on stores at different distances from a Wal Mart store. This evaluation of survey results could then be compared to determine the real effects of the Wal Mart phenomenon. The quality of jobs and consumer shopping habits affected by Wal Mart could be determined by a phone or mail survey. This type of survey is inexpensive and could be used to reach a large number of people, thereby creating accurate results. If the hypothesis is correct, this type of survey could determine that Wal Mart is reducing the overall earning power of American workers and shaping the shopping habits of the consumer. A collection of data and research of the effects on American business and society by Wal Mart is truly needed. A Comparison of Death of a Naturalist and Digging by Seamus Heaney The poems Death of a Naturalist and Digging have many similarities, and contrasts. Some of the reoccurring themes in the two poems include memories of childhood and changes in the life of the writer. There are contrasts too, in Death of a Naturalist ; the writer is concentrating on himself and his own experiences in life, rather than the experiences of others. In Digging , the opposite is true, as the writer concentrates mainly on the events in other people s lives, namely his father and grandfather. Death of Naturalist is about a young boy, his love for nature and how he relishes every aspect of the countryside. A part of this passion is being aware of a host of small things that many people would find insignificant; animals, frogspawn and all the noises of life around him. This changes in the second stanza. The poet has a change of heart and he seems to retreat from the nature he previously loved. He writes: I sickened, turned and ran So we can see he doesn t feel the same passion about nature any more, it was a death of the naturalist. Digging is about a young man who feels that he is not worthy to follow in his father s footsteps. He tells the reader about how great his father and grandfather were, but throughout the poem he says very little about himself. Towards the end his mind is changed. Although his ancestors were hard working men who earned their living through digging, he feels that his writing is a worthy path to follow. He will dig with his pen. • 18. The Article, Stereotypical Constructions Of The Maori ... The article, Stereotypical Constructions of the Maori Race in the Media, written by Melanie Wall (1997), can be summarised as an article focusing on the effect the colonisation of New Zealand had on the Maori as a population. It mainly focuses on the way Maori have been imagined as the stereotypical Black Other . It speaks of the perpetuation and (re)formation of Maori identities, including the way Maori are constrained by their Black Other stereotype within New Zealand. The article talks about representations of race through identity images , the effect of the Maori Renaissance (in particular its effect on identity formations), and Maori Stereotypes in the Media. In the beginning of the article, Wall talks about the categorisations of racialised discourse. She mentions different justifications of stereotypes, and how they relate to what is referred to as the construction of the new world . Wall believes that as well as the traditional old racisms, there is also a new racism which is spoken about by Barker in 1981. She uses the example of Maori as the unemployable/unemployed, which has became one of the main stereotypes, that construct the identity of specific Maori. Wall speaks about four main Maori stereotypes within the Media; The Comic Other, The Primitive Natural Athlete, The Radical Political Activist, and The Quintessential Maori. • 38. Social Media And The Media However, Contrary to the idea that social media creates a polarizing filter bubble, exposing people to only a narrow range of opinions, 70 percent of Millennials say that their social media feeds are comprised of diverse viewpoints evenly mixed between those similar to and different from their own. (American Press Institute, 2015, p. 3) This disputes the notion that everybody who engages in social media receive a uniform message, and these diverse viewpoints also enables users to become judicious in what content they are consuming. In the same American Press Institute study researchers concluded, nearly three quarters of those exposed to different views (73 percent) report they investigate others opinions at least some of the time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The study found Americans are selective consumers with behaviors varying reliant on the topic. With this in mind we can hope groups other than millennials are not receiving a likeminded point of view even if a clear proclamation cannot be made. All in all a multitude of voices talking about assorted topics can only be good for public discourse, and could potentially impact mobilization. The preceding paragraphs were aimed at providing a baseline of knowledge, show that social media provides a wide variety of information, and to establish that its worthy of investigation. At the moment there is a lack of research aimed at determining the impact of the public s use of social media on Agenda setting, and priming. Yet, there has been research regarding social media and mobilization that is quite promising. Thus far, mobilization is where social media has seen its greatest impact. Mobilization is defined as, the process by which candidates, parties, activists and groups induce other people to participate (Rosenstone Hansen, 1993, p. 25). When taking the definition for mobilization into account it is easy to understand why social media has shown promise in this area. Social media supplies activists with the ability to circulate information, and information is the means by which political activists recruit new members. Social media also creates vast networks that . . . allow people to assemble as individuals, with limited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So now the once French cargo ship is now a 110ft, 300 ton ship with 40 canons (Hamilton 8 9). Aboard the Queen Anne s Revenge Blackbeard never let his crew forget who was incharge. Some of Blackbeard s crew was foolish enough to accept a crazy challenge. The challenge was to see who could stay below deck in a room while sulfur was burning the longest. Once the the sulfur was lit crew members were running to get above on the deck and soon all of the crew members were out in the open gasping for fresh air. The last one to come out was of course Blackbeard. Teach once shot one of his own crewmen over a drunken game of poker. • 46. Cause Of The Civil War This historical study will define the causes of the Civil War by understanding the divisive nature of the southern agrarian and northern industrial economies. In the Antebellum era, the South relied heavily on the production of cash crops, such as cotton and tobacco, that relied heavily on a plantation economy. Southern plantation owners also relied heavily on slave labor, which prevented more fluid labor markets from encouraging industrialization. Plantation owners did not want the advanced agricultural machinery used by northern industries, since the slave trade was highly profitable system of trade in and unto itself. In the North, the rapid advancement of industry had a greater mobility in labor markets, since wage labor replaced the slave... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More so, it identifies the exponential development of Northern industry, which vastly outperformed the South of economic output and military power. Of course, the South was uninterested in developing its own large industrial factories because it challenged the agrarian reliance on slave labor. This is part of the passage from slavery to contract that was causing so much strife before the Civil War, which led to open warfare between the North and the South. These irreconcilable differences were part of the continual rift between the agrarian economy of the South and the rapidly growing industrial economy during the antebellum era. The industrialization of the North was part of a diversification of the economy, which slowly abandoned the tenets of slavery in the late 18th century and into the early 19th century. However, the South continued to support an increase in slave ownership that eventually became a large scale business in the agrarian labor markets. These are important causes of the Civil War that relied heavily on the inability of the North and the South to integrate more cooperative economic relationships as a result of the conflict of slave labor and voluntary wage labor in the mid 19th ... In No Name Woman Maxine Hong Kingston narrates the tale of her unmarried aunt who is obliged to suffer the consequences of her pregnancy in the ambiguous world of her Chinese roots. We are not given a name for the narrator nor for her family. We therefore might wonder who might be considered a No name Woman both in the book s world and in our own. With the oxymoron No Name Woman, Kingston calls attention to reconcile both her Chinese and American identities to and mold her own identity as a result. The roundness also indicates that the family functions as a whole, with each generation dependent on the other. • 48. The Death, Burial, And Resurrection Of Jesus Christ Why did they wait until 100 pages into the book to write this chapter? Earlier in the book when they said that I might want to set down the book they were right. This chapter has some really helpful concepts validated by scripture and explained with helpful models that should get every Christian excited about ministry to the city. This chapter is about sharing the good news with people and grabbing their attention and respect with goo deeds. This chapter is about the death, burial, and resurrection of JesusChrist. This chapter is also about loving the city and living in the city in away that is compatible with the needs and dreams of the city. This is my favorite chapter in the book by far. It contains a really solid biblical theology for loving the city. I ve never seen any Christian in my life raise a person from the dead in the name of God. I may never see a supernatural miracle in my life, but I m certainly not going to say that it can t happen. Maybe we just don t have enough faith to raise people from the dead in the name of Jesus. More commonly I think we have the ability to transform the city though doing unwarranted acts of kindness in our community. In Galatians 2 Paul extorts us to remember the poor in good deeds of service. Let us be eager to serve in this way but not forget to share the life saving word of God. Paul also models for us in Romans 1 when he says he is eager to share the gospeland that it is the power of God s salvation for all that believe. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
