Theme Of Silence In Waiting For Godot
Postmodern literature depicts the degradation of human psyche and the struggle of the man to find his
identity after destruction that the World War II caused to the humanity. The war ruined the human
values and every human being had lost the sense of moral and immoral. Harold Pinter s The Dumb
Waiter and Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot belong to the postmodern literary category that
showcase in the most comic and tragic way the pessimistic vision of humanity struggling vainly to
find a purpose in their existence. Vladimir and Estragon, Ben and Gus are the hopeless and anxious
victims of the war who are controlled from unknown authorities. In this context, the ability to
communicate with each other, to take decisions for themselves and to ... Show more content on

They both know that if one is silent is because he hides something. And this is mostly when Gus
makes important questions about the nature of their job, or their next victim or about the identity of
Wilson and the organization. Ben withholds information from Gus, which is why he doesn t respond
to him. Gus wants to know who controls his life, who is the next victim, why he is imprisoned in a
dark room. His questions are of existential character and silence serves as an identity crisis. Ben s and
Wilson s silence alienates Gus from the truth. The most important silence in the play is at the end
though. The play ends with Ben raising the revolver to Gus s head while they stare at each other. This
is the silence of punishment where Gus is punished for questioning the authorities, punished for
asking too many questions and getting nearly to the truth. When the final silence fells over, both Gus
and Ben share emotions of anger, uncertainty, injustice and

Responsibility Of Creation In Frankenstein
Parents and creators set the main foundation to their creation or offspring. Though Sharon Begley
portrayed that the environment in where the creation or offspring were raised also hindered their
outcome as an adult and the amount of violence contributed. Mary Shelley s fascinating science
fiction novel, Frankenstein, conveyed how the creation was a living proof of how without a creator or
parent to guide him through as a child he would have a higher chance of committing a crime or
becoming violent. Shelly further suggests that since the creation grew up isolated and rejected by the
people around him it increased his aggression as he grew older and hindered his behavior vastly. The
responsibility of a creator is not just to create, but to love and protect their children. They are a
product of not just their own inherited nature, but also as important of their creator s nurturing or lack
thereof. One responsibility of a creator is to take responsibility of their creation, instead of abandoning
it, they should nurture it. The creator should love their creation despite anything because it is
something they created and their minds are still innocent; the creation just wants attention and to be
loved. After Victor created his creation, he referred to him as a hideous monster because of how he
looked. The creation in Shelley s story emphasizes the loneliness of growing up feeling miserable and
abandoned, (Shelley 165), and how Victor s job as a creator was not carried out.

Evaluating Kindergarten Teachers Perspectives About The...
CHAPTER 5
DISCUSSION
The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers perspectives about the practice of
effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical
practices.
Study Implications
The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were
numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the
researcher s capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area of
interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered
considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from which it
comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the issue of study. It
can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be large enough so that
central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small sample size, it did not
contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the sample size, there was a
postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to the field would allow for a
pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By containing such a small sample
size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the past 5 years, it refuted the
capability to essentially run the

Refugee Challenges For Refugees
The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face while
moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with the
assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services through an
interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate refugees
with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept in mind the
practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this time in their lives is emotional
we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees. When deciding who to contact for
interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with immigration officers, program
managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc. First, we created a target list of many
individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first point of contact was email, with some
participants they emailed their answers to us, however with others they preferred to communicate
through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we collected were completed through phone calls
and emails. Our project is based around a relatively touchy subject because in many cases, refugees
have been forced from their country for their own safety. If people ask how life was like before and
what made them leave their home, they may feel uncomfortable and out of place like the new kid on

Leavell And Clark Model
Leavell and Clark model wanted to explain how the relationship between an agent, host, and
environment could affect an individual s health. Agent Host Environment model, according to Leavell
and Clark, is beneficial for investigative causes of disease in an individual. The model attempts to
explain how the interconnection of three separate elements correlates to affect an individual health
status. The agent host environmental model suggests, how certain factors must be present or absent for
an illness to occur; and as a result of such external factor a living organism is capable of being
adversely infected or affected by outside influences (Leavell and Clark, 1965).

Based on the latest Census review, more than half of Americans with dementia due to AD are at the
moderate or severe stages of the disease. The accumulating care burdens associated with the
progression of AD place considerable stress on caregivers and families of the person with AD, and
often determine whether that person is placed in a nursing home. Furthermore, greater impairments in
cognition, ADL, and behavior are associated with higher societal costs of AD related care. Successful
symptomatic therapies, particularly in the moderate and severe stages of the disease, may provide
substantial health and quality of life benefits, not only for the patient, but also for those in their
caregiving network via reduced AD related burden and stress. Moreover, effective treatment of
symptoms may also delay nursing home placement and help reduce costs related to patient care

Jungle Stereotypes In Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop,
Surprisingly, I personally thought the idea of observing these cartoons with a third eye was highly
effective. Usually, people tend to look past exactly what the cartoons are portraying. I noticed
throughout all of the cartoons they were humanizing racism. I saw a diversity in cultures from all of
the cartoons. Frequently, I observed how all the cultures were represented and the way they were
dressed. Additionally, one thing that stood out from the rest was physical appearance. Between the two
cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters the African
Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. The setting of Little Black
Sambo and Jungle Jitters were very similar plus they both had that jungle stereotype. Jungle Jitters
initially illustrated how African Americans are jungle eating people. Social justice was highly
embellished in Jungle Jitters explaining the lifestyle of all social classes. Overall, I noticed the variety
of relationships all the cartoons were depicting from what the class learned during the start of the year.

Anabolic Steroids Have On The Body
Anabolic androgenic steroids are a synthetic version of testosterone which one injects into the body.
There are many different types of steroids however the most commonly abused are stimulants, HGH
(Human Growth Hormone), diuretics, and testosterone. Although the body naturally produces
testosterone many athletes, especially bodybuilders, take steroids to increase lean muscle mass,
strength, and performance. Anabolic androgenic steroids are a controversial topic within sports. The
main concern with steroids are the long term health effects that it has on the athletes.
One of the many questions that have been asked by medical specialist are if training and diet of the

Anabolic androgenic steroids play an important role in the pharmaceutical industry and have many
beneficial effects on sick patients. According to the Parssinen and Seppala the authors of the article
Steroid Use and Long Term Health Risks in Former Athletes they state that Anabolic steroids and
testosterone are effective and well tolerated pharmaceutical agents when administered for proper
medical indications such as androgen replacement therapy, osteoporosis, aplastic anemia, and cancer.
(Parssinen, Seppala, pg. 1). The issue is that the abuse of steroids have increased within athletes and
many doctors are concerned of the adverse effects that it will have.
Many studies have been conducted over the past few decades and have shown the harmful effects that
steroids can have on an athlete s body. In the article Steroids in Combat Sports: Adverse effects on
Health written by Malik and Trainor they list some of the damaging effects it can have such as:
stoppage of bone growth resulting in growth retardation which is irreversible, increase risk of muscle
injury, bone destruction, heart disease... (Malik, Trainor, and pg.1) the list goes on to include diseases
such as cancer, and even death.
Most people know that steroids have a harmful, and even deadly, effect on the body. However, Gerard
Thorne in his book Anabolic Primer discusses and challenges the beliefs that many people have on
steroid use. Thorne believes that there is a safer way to use the

The Power of Hips

seductive. Hips are used for childbearing, only a female power. Lucille Clifton s, a supporter of
African Americans and feminism, believes that women have the same power as men. Anything men
can do women can do the same, even better. Lucille Clifton s Homage to My Hips rebuts the division
of labor mechanism instilled in our society that isn t politically correct; thereby taking a powerful

She will not follow the rules society has set for her ethnically and physically. In The Construction of
Femininity, Race and Sexuality , the term feminist has a broader reach, it describes a range of self
determination and equality (Tyree 2). Being an African American feminist in her time period was
much more difficult than today. She had to face ignorant minds and fight for her belief. Lucille Clifton
praises her body that has made her independent. She believes the only thing that sets a man off from a
woman is her hips. She believed that women should have the same rights as men, her hips should have
not been held back. Women are capable of performing the same tasks. Women are emotionally
stronger than men as well. Women were granted with a gift that no man could ever do, childbearing.
Many look at it as not a grand thing, but in fact the world is dependent on a woman. The speaker states
that these hips are magic hips (12) to show how they could help her get certain things from a male.

the tiny child wander into the warmth of Silas Marner s cottage. Silas takes the child and looks after it,

Nancy Lammeter but fails to have children with her. He goes to claim Eppie but Eppie decides to stay

baddies when Dunstan Cass is found at the bottom of a lake with Silas money.
Some of the Victorian values that would have influenced George Eliot are the traditional family values
and the role of women in families and society. Women were expected to stay at home and look after
the family. They were not expected to work or do anything to displease their husbands. At the time,
George Eliot was writing her book, the industrial revolution was also taking place and economic and
class values were changing. England was going through a series of tumultuous cultural, social and
economic transformations.
This could be reflected in the seemingly robotic work Silas does. He weaves continually only to save
every penny into a box under his floorboards for him to count and worship.

The Effect Of Prostaglandins On The Inflammation Pathway...
The role of prostaglandins in the inflammation pathway and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs
Student ID: 51555517 Date: 11 11 2015
Inflammation is a defense reaction, whereby harmful factors are removed and tissue structure and
function are restored. During the acute phase of inflammation, first neutrophils will arrive, followed
by monocytes. The monocytes mature into inflammatory macrophages and will finally affect the
function of the resident tissue macrophages [Figure 1]. These responses lead to swelling, redness, heat
and often pain. Once the first stimulus is removed, the reaction will stop and the inflammatory cells
will be returned to pre inflammatory numbers. Prostaglandins play an important role in immune
reactions and are therefore often targeted by anti inflammatory drugs, such as non steroid anti
inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The specific role of prostaglandins and the mechanism of action of
NSAIDs will be discussed (Ricciotti; FitzGerald, 2011). Figure 1. Basic diagram of acute
inflammation (Reilkoff; Bucala et al., 2011)
Prostaglandins in general
Prostaglandins are formed when arachidonic acid is released from the plasma membrane by
phospholipases [Figure 2]. This acid is metabolized by PGG/H synthase or cyclooxygenase (COX).
The four main bioactive prostaglandins are generated in vivo: prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostacyclin
(PGI2), prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and prostaglandin F2 (PGF2).

Jorgen Leth Constraints
Constraints, or obstructions, offer a new form of a piece of art work. They are a way of creative
innovation. In the film The Five Obstructions, constraints were used to combat Jorgen Leth s writer s
block. Depending on the constraint, it can focus an artist s work. Like Anti art, constraints can offer a
different perspective through potential forms of art, which is the basis of Oulipo. Restriction of what
an artist can work with actually opens doors of creativity and new art forms.
In The Five Obstructions, Director Lars von Trier advises Jorgen Leth on his work. Von Trier creates
the first two obstructions for Leth. Leth proficiently completes the first constraint. However, von Trier
criticizes Leth for using a translucent screen in the second constraint. I found Leth s use of the screen
to be creative, but von Trier stuck to his guns and did not want any people to be shown from Mumbai,
India. I found that the rigor that von Trier had to stick to his constraints was so that there was a
consistency within the film. However, I appreciated Leth s creativity with the screen. This type of
creativity are evidence of the value of constraints. Counterintuitive approaches can creative productive

The third obstruction was punishment for Leth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Billion sonnets almost take constraints to a new level. The one less persuasive aspect of constraints is
the lack of human conception. These large creations of work often have been tampered with by
machines or other texts. One may consider this as a hindering of the persona of the author. To generate
so many poems like Queneau, one would have to utilize some sort of tool that takes away from the
human aspect of creating art. Queneau embraces the potential that constraints offer, which is crucial to

The Cold War Era
Cold War The cold war started in 1945 and ended in 1989. It was a war between the United States and
the Soviet Union. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there
were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs. The history on the United States in war is that
before the cold war the United States had fought in 24 battles and they won 17 of them. The strength
and the courage that the United States has when they go to war are unbelievable. Their win to loss
ratio on wars is so incredible and the weapons that they got to use weren t as accurate as todays
weapons are now. The United States and the Soviet Union both liked to make bombs. They both did
everything they could to perfect them and to train guys how to use them so they could use them for
military purposes. The cold war got started by the erection of the Berlin Wall which was used to stop
people from escaping the country. When the wall got put up the Americans started flying spy planes
and found out that Soviets had nuclear missiles capable of going off and heading straight for places in
the United States. When the United States found out about the missiles they got a navy Rhea 2

Overconsumption Of Antibiotics
Why does the over prescription of antibiotic medication lead to a negative economic and societal
outcome?
Increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatments has become a worldwide issue over the last 20
years as consumer and general practitioner s incentives for a quick fix to minor illnesses have caused a
negative externality for the consumption of antibiotics. A negative externality in this example is when
a third party, in this case, society as a whole, is adversely affected by the overconsumption of
antibiotics, due to greater bacterial resistance, causing more advanced diseases that pose a greater risk
to the health of a society. The roles played by consumers, doctors and pharmaceutical manufacturers
will be discussed in detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most antibiotics require a prescription from a medical professional such as a general practitioner or
specialist. According to research published in the Medical Journal of Australia during 2017: GP s have
been prescribing antibiotics nine times more often than what the guidelines state. Doctors, like
consumers, are driven by their own incentives. There is a strong incentive for GP s to prescribe
antibiotics to patients which may not necessarily require them, due to the pressure on a doctor s time
to attend to as many patients as possible. Therefore, doctors can be incentivised to undertake the
simplest solution, rather than sacrifice the amount of patients that they see in order to explore other
methods of treatment. Doctor s incentives tend to be skewed towards offering treatment to patients,
rather than focusing on decreasing the big picture societal negative externality. Another example of an
externality on the healthcare system is that amplified antibiotic resistance increases medical costs, as
more expensive, potent antibiotics are required to combat stronger bacteria and infections.
In the United States, Pharmaceutical companies spend over $1 billion each year on direct to consumer
advertising for antibiotic prescriptions, shifting away from traditional advertisements for physicians in
medical journals, towards newspapers and consumer magazines. This marketing strategy has bolstered
consumer demand hugely and it poses a problem, as consumers are now heavily swayed by private
institutions who have their own incentive for maximizing profits.
In order to combat the issues discussed in this essay, a potential solution involves the implementation
of economic incentives for drug manufacturers, consumers and doctors, employed by policy

Coffee
1) Who did the Europeans get coffee from and how did it spread to Europe?
A) Coffee originated in Yemen, Arabia where it was viewed as a religious beverage. Over time it
spread to Mecca and Cairo, where it became a recreational drink to be drunk in a social manner in
large coffee houses. It also became a popular substitute for alcohol, which was banned under Islam.
Europeans traveling in the Middle East came upon coffee and coffeehouses and commented on their
popularity. But it wasn t until 1652, when an Armenian servant named Pasqua Rosee opened the first
coffee house in London, that coffee transformed from a little known novelty into a wide spread
phenomenon. When, in 1658, Cromwell died and public opinion swung in the favor of a new
monarchy, coffee houses became central in political debates and commercial business. The trend
quickly caught on and coffee houses became fashionable throughout Europe. 2) Why was it so
important to Europe s development that many people s beverage of choice switched from alcohol to
coffee?
A) Unlike alcohol s intoxicating effect, which made people sleepy and dulled their minds, coffee woke
people up and made scientists, clerks, merchants and other businessmen more alert throughout the
long workday. Coffeehouses also became places for people to exchange and listen to new ideas and
theories in areas such as natural history, chemistry,

Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development
My Reflection of Erikson Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist known for his theory of
psychosocial development. Unlike other theorists of his time Erikson s theory focused on human
development across the lifespan from birth to late adulthood. Erikson believed that development
change occurs throughout our lives in eight distinctive stages that emerge in a fixed pattern and are
similar for all people. Erikson argued that each stage presents a crisis or conflict which results in either
a positive or negative outcome (Feldman p.16). In this essay I will identify incidents in my own life
that demonstrate each stage of development according to Erikson that I have lived through. I will also
interview my Aunt Tami, who will share her experiences for the remainder of the stages of Erikson s
development that I have not gone through thus far. Erikson s first stage of development is the Trust
versus Mistrust stage that occurs from birth till 18 months of life. According to Erikson this is the
period in which infants develop a sense of trust or mistrust, depending largely on how well their
caregivers meet their needs (Feldman p. 187). During this stage of my life I was being taken care of by
both Mom and Dad, but primarily by Mom. My Mom was a stay at home parent while my Dad
worked. Both my parents went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed food, shelter,
clothes and most importantly love and affection. Through my positive experience in this stage I

Gospel Of Luke And Mark Differences Essay
One of the biggest differences between the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Luke is the length. The
Gospel of Luke goes more in depth of the life of Jesus; in the Gospel of Luke, there is a section about
Jesus as a child, Lk 2:41 52. Jesus birth and childhood is omitted from the Gospel of Mark, Marks
Gospel starts with Jesus as an adult. The Gospel of Mark is a more condensed version of the accounts
of Jesus s life. There are also differences between the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. The
Gospel of Luke begins with a Dedication to Theophilus, in this dedication; the author tells Theophilus
that he has constructed this gospel after much research. Both Matthew and Mark do not have this
dedication. Also, the Gospel of Matthew omits the birth of John the Baptist, but the Gospel of Luke
has it. Another difference between Matthew and Luke is the genealogy. Both gospels have some
account Jesus genealogy but The Gospel of Mathews is longer (Mt 1:1 18); the Gospel of Luke is

mission in Jerusalem and the passion narrative and resurrection (11:1 16:8). One of the differences
between the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Mark is that the Gospel of Mark puts the Passion

Why Movement Matters By Rae Pico
After reading over the two articles: Why Movement Matters by Rae Pica and Learning Through
Music: The Support of Brain Research by Elizabeth Carlton, it reveals a cohesion in learning music
and a child s movements. In the first article, Why Movement Matters by Rae Pica, the author
expresses a shocking idea I have never think about to which that the majority of [the] people will
never see the movement as a top priority in children s lives and education. This is interesting for me
because as a parent myself, I see that the development of children s movement is really important
because most of the time, in order for a child to perform a task, he/she requires and be able to move.
Not only that but when a child learns to move, his/her motor

Blackface In Minstrel Shows
Blackface is a form of makeup used for theatrical purposes, predominantly used by non black
performers portraying a black person. Blackface was mainly used in minstrel shows, also known as
minstrelsy, in which Americans would charge others to watch racial and discriminatory performances.
Minstrel shows were developed in the early 19th century, and every show was composed of
humoristic plays, skits, acts and other visual performances that are meant to mock and make fun of
people of African American descent. The shows were performed mainly by Caucasians using burnt
cork as make up for the purpose of trying to represent a black person. Minstrel shows portrayed black
people as stupid, silly, lazy, and happy go lucky. Therefore, these shows were made by racist
Caucasians that dehumanized African Americans and made them seem like they were idiots in which
they made profit from. Frederick Douglass once said that blackface performers were ...the filthy scum
of white society, who have stolen from us a complexion denied them by nature, in which to make
money, and pander to the corrupt taste of their white fellow citizens. The previous quote perfectly
summarizes the whole concept of blackface. Minstrel shows were the cause from evolved
entertainment. In 1828, Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice performed a song and dance routine using
ugly, old, tattered clothes, and blackface in a New York City theatre. He was known as the father of
American minstrelsy. His performance was based on the

Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay
The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by Klaus Groth. It is a
poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it arouses an emotional feeling of one
dreaming about something from the past. And, these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem
through a variety of images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase,
Like melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be symbolic of
thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot get out of your head, a memory
that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent
away, he uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain with him like a
sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to symbolize how the memory of this lost
love continues to remain fresh (moist referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes.
And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it
brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express
this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m.
41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another
example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it
floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice
here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it
fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports
the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in
expressing the poem s imagery. Most of this Lied is quarter notes in the voice with eighth notes in

Persuasive Essay On Gun Control
One man with a gun can control 100 without one. Vladimir Lenin. This quote describes how one
person with a gun has so much control over many others that don t. It is a good example of what is
going on in society today because of all the shootings that have taken place in public, churches, and
schools. These mass shootings have created such controversy as to whether or not there should be
more gun control laws. On November 5, 2017, Devin Patrick Kelley began shooting inside of the
Sutherlands Springs Church killing more than 20 people including children. Before this tragic
incident, he had a history of domestic violence towards his ex wife and child which he was charged
with disorderly conduct . Due to his criminal history, he managed to buy a rifle, that was used in the
shooting, legally by lying on the background check paperwork indicating he had no criminal history.
This was months after the Las Vegas shooting that had taken place on October 4, 2017 causing more
than 50 fatalities. These shootings were committed by convicted felons and/or mentally ill individuals
who have made it clear that the purchase of guns are easy and simple. These individuals had access to
firearms because they had either gained authorization by the government or purchased it illegally by
giving false information on paperwork. This has become a threat to many US citizens, for some do not
feel safe because nowadays anyone can easily purchase a gun. Most people would agree that more gun
control laws would not make much of a difference in the purchase of guns, however more gun control
laws should be enacted because it can decrease the amount of criminals that own a gun, it can decrease
the amount of homicides and suicide deaths, and it can prevent dangerous situations such as public
shootings.
Guns have been a big problem in society today, and those that stand behind the guns have taken the
lives of innocent people. This leads to why more gun control laws should be enacted because it can
decrease the amount of criminals that own unregistered guns. Convicted felons have purchased guns
through gun shows or through personal connections based on the evidence provided by Amy Sherman.
Sherman states, private sellers without a federal

William Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice
The Merchant of Venice offers another unique perspective on crossdressing as it existed on the
English Renaissance stage. Howard suggests that Portia s crossdressing is more disruptive than Viola s
(Howard, p. 433) because Portia herself was an unruly woman to begin with. Portia has become the
master of her own destiny with the passing of her father, for she is referred to as the Lord of Belmont
now that no man exists to fill such a role. What remains of the patriarchal authority, particularly the
casket trial by which Portia s future husband must be chosen, is even subverted by Portia s ability to
guide her suitors to a proper or incorrect choice. Her seemingly innate guile and resourcefulness set
the stage for her entry into the male arena and the inversion created by her crossdressing (Newman,
pp. 26 28). By becoming Balthazar, Portia steps outside of her role and function as a subservient
woman. Not only does she dress like a man, but also she embarks upon behavior ill suited to her
supposedly weaker intellect, that of practicing law. Amazingly enough, Portia is able to prove herself
more than capable of such a task, and is ultimately able to save Antonio s life. She utilizes her male
guise not to cover her innate inadequacy in the male arena, but rather solely to gain the power to enter
into it. As Howard puts it, Portia seems to be able to play the man s part with conviction (Howard, p.
433). While the repercussions of Portia s inversion on the conception

Abti Personality Test Paper
My results for the MBTI personality test was ISTP. Which represents me as introversion, sensing,
thinking, and perceiving. I have personally never taken this test but I believe I got put into the right
category. I was slightly introverted which wasn t too much of a surprise for me because I am pretty
shy sometimes. I love hanging out with people and never pass up an opportunity for a good time, so I
would say I am more towards the middle between extroversion and introversion. For example, I
wouldn t go up and talk to someone out of the blue, but if anyone ever asked me to go meet people or
do something I would usually say yes. The result for the way I make decisions seem very accurate to
me. I usually always think logically and would think

How Is Math Used In Lacrosse
The Types of Math Used in Lacrosse
Most people would assume that soccer is the fastest game played with two feet, but actually it is
lacrosse. Math is used in the game of lacrosse in many ways, as an example the angle you shoot at
determines where the ball goes. Also, an example of math being used would be the different shapes in
the game. Like for example, the field you play on is a rectangle with different shapes and lines to
determine the foul lines, shooting lines, and the half field. Another subject of math being involved in
lacrosse is the area inside the net. This is how much space there is in the net, where the ball could go.
In lacrosse, angles are mostly used in shooting. An angle is the space within two to three lines or more
planes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The math involved is the area inside the netting. The area is the extent or the measurement of a surface
or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the net. The
official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square feet, to find this
out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will bring you to 42 ft.
After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be 6 and 7, and you times
them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add these numbers to get 85 and
square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get
55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would would add to the 42 you got before
and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. The lacrosse field has certain measurements
and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.) long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are
five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the midfield line, which divides the whole field into two,
so the sides are 50 m. on each side. Another area of the field is the defense and attack area. The lines
are marked 35 yards from the end of the field. Theses markers and areas of the field are very important
to the game because that s how you play the game and where you re supposed to

Summary Of Ivan Ilych Chapter Summaries
Chapter seven starts with Ivan Ilych beginning in the third month of his sicknesses. This chapter also
describes his family, friends, acquaintances, doctors and servants in the beginning as wanting Ivan to
die so that they would not have to deal with the discomfort of his presence. How it happened it is
impossible to say because it came about step by step, unnoticed, but in the third month of Ivan Ilych s
illness, his wife, his daughter, his son, his acquaintances, the doctors, the servants, and above all he
himself, were aware that the whole interest he had for other people was whether he would soon vacate
his place, and at last release the living from the discomfort caused by his presence and be himself
released from his sufferings (VII, 1 2). Ivan is fully aware of the fact that the only thing people around
him care about is when he is going to expire. The people who should love him the most, his family,
should be there for him during his time of need. They should give him comfort and care because they
know that he is going to die, but they don t because they only care about their own happiness. Their
daughter came in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the examination was over the doctor looked at his watch, and then Praskovya Fedorovna
announced to Ivan Ilych that it was of course as he pleased, but she had sent today for a celebrated
specialist who would examine him and have a consultation with Michael Danilovich (VIII, 46 47).
She tells Ivan: Please don t raise any objections. I am doing this for my own sake, she said ironically,
letting it be felt that she was doing it all for his sake and only said this to leave him no right to refuse.
He remained silent, knitting his brows. He felt that he was surrounded and involved in a mesh of
falsity that it was hard to unravel anything. (VIII, 43 44). Ivan knows that she is not doing nothing for
his for his sake, but only for the sake of

Kurt Cobain And Morrison Research Paper
Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison Despite being almost twenty years in between the time of their fame
Kurt Cobain and Jim Morrison are more often than not compared to each other. They had fame,
fortune and depression. Both were considered to be poets instead of just musicians. Cobain and
Morrison has a lot going for them musically. Kurt was not only the lead of a phenomenal band but a
guitarist, song writer and an icon to the masses. Morrison was a writer, film maker and icon as well.
Not including all the talent they had going for them, the main thing they had in common was
depression. It is true that it does not discriminate. With a lot of fame and fans comes a lot of pressure,
too. Both artists agreed that their trying times started when they

The Issue Of Domestic Violence Homicides Or Gun Surrender...
B. Interview format:
In an attempt to better understand the barriers in getting perpetrators to surrender their guns, and the
possible solution in remedying them, I conducted interviews with different members of the King
County community. The goal of these interviews was to generate information regarding the
experiences of DV victims, and their advocates as well as law enforcement agencies on the issue of
gun surrendering. Interviews were done primarily in person with the attorneys, and primarily over the
phone with the DV advocates. Due to the political sensitivity of this issue, the majority of the
interviewees have requested to remain anonymous.
C. Interview Questions:
The following questions guided each interview: Background:
1. Can you tell us a bit about the work you currently do, and how it is related to the issue of domestic
violence homicides or gun surrender laws?
a. How long have you been working in this capacity?
b. In which County has most of your work been in?
c. How often do you work with clients that are the victims of Domestic Violence?
2. Did any of your clients have a judge order their perpetrators to surrender their weapons, and if so,
can you tell me about an instance where this has happened?
Recent Policy Changes and their impact:
3. Washington enacted a law in 2014 that mirrors federal law by prohibiting gun possession by anyone
subject to a protective order. The protective order must have been issued after a noticed hearing

  • 2. Theme Of Silence In Waiting For Godot Postmodern literature depicts the degradation of human psyche and the struggle of the man to find his identity after destruction that the World War II caused to the humanity. The war ruined the human values and every human being had lost the sense of moral and immoral. Harold Pinter s The Dumb Waiter and Samuel Beckett s Waiting for Godot belong to the postmodern literary category that showcase in the most comic and tragic way the pessimistic vision of humanity struggling vainly to find a purpose in their existence. Vladimir and Estragon, Ben and Gus are the hopeless and anxious victims of the war who are controlled from unknown authorities. In this context, the ability to communicate with each other, to take decisions for themselves and to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They both know that if one is silent is because he hides something. And this is mostly when Gus makes important questions about the nature of their job, or their next victim or about the identity of Wilson and the organization. Ben withholds information from Gus, which is why he doesn t respond to him. Gus wants to know who controls his life, who is the next victim, why he is imprisoned in a dark room. His questions are of existential character and silence serves as an identity crisis. Ben s and Wilson s silence alienates Gus from the truth. The most important silence in the play is at the end though. The play ends with Ben raising the revolver to Gus s head while they stare at each other. This is the silence of punishment where Gus is punished for questioning the authorities, punished for asking too many questions and getting nearly to the truth. When the final silence fells over, both Gus and Ben share emotions of anger, uncertainty, injustice and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Responsibility Of Creation In Frankenstein Parents and creators set the main foundation to their creation or offspring. Though Sharon Begley portrayed that the environment in where the creation or offspring were raised also hindered their outcome as an adult and the amount of violence contributed. Mary Shelley s fascinating science fiction novel, Frankenstein, conveyed how the creation was a living proof of how without a creator or parent to guide him through as a child he would have a higher chance of committing a crime or becoming violent. Shelly further suggests that since the creation grew up isolated and rejected by the people around him it increased his aggression as he grew older and hindered his behavior vastly. The responsibility of a creator is not just to create, but to love and protect their children. They are a product of not just their own inherited nature, but also as important of their creator s nurturing or lack thereof. One responsibility of a creator is to take responsibility of their creation, instead of abandoning it, they should nurture it. The creator should love their creation despite anything because it is something they created and their minds are still innocent; the creation just wants attention and to be loved. After Victor created his creation, he referred to him as a hideous monster because of how he looked. The creation in Shelley s story emphasizes the loneliness of growing up feeling miserable and abandoned, (Shelley 165), and how Victor s job as a creator was not carried out. ... • 4. Evaluating Kindergarten Teachers Perspectives About The... CHAPTER 5 DISCUSSION The purpose of this study was to examine Kindergarten teachers perspectives about the practice of effective computer technology procedures and its incorporation into their current pedagogical practices. Study Implications The findings for hypothesis 1 were not reinforced by conducting the linear regression. There were numerous factors that contributed to this result. Primarily, the sum of participants hindered the researcher s capacity to truly assemble a statistical evaluation for a linear regression. A major area of interest, concerning this study, was finding and selecting a sample size that could be considered considerable along with being sufficient so that it will be characteristic of the populace from which it comes. Therefore, the researcher could center and make strong implications about the issue of study. It can be adequately implied, for future reference, that the sample size should be large enough so that central variances can be found in subgroups. By simply having a small sample size, it did not contribute to effectually conducting a linear regression. In addition to the sample size, there was a postulation that the linearity would suggest that teachers who are new to the field would allow for a pattern to emerge. However, that was not the case in this study. By containing such a small sample size of teachers with experience in the field of education within the past 5 years, it refuted the capability to essentially run the ... • 5. Refugee Challenges For Refugees The current refugee scene is facing many complications. The challenges these individuals face while moving to a new country has encouraged us to focus our project on providing refugees with the assistance they need to succeed. Exploring different areas such as connections and services through an interview process has given us a better insight into what path to take to better accommodate refugees with the challenges in their current country. When conducting interviews our group kept in mind the practicality of the refugee s situation. Since for many individuals, this time in their lives is emotional we decided to reach out to the individuals that help refugees. When deciding who to contact for interviews we kept all our options open, communicating with immigration officers, program managers, University of Waterloo volunteers and teachers etc. First, we created a target list of many individuals that we were interested to hear from. Our first point of contact was email, with some participants they emailed their answers to us, however with others they preferred to communicate through the phone. In the end, all of the interviews we collected were completed through phone calls and emails. Our project is based around a relatively touchy subject because in many cases, refugees have been forced from their country for their own safety. If people ask how life was like before and what made them leave their home, they may feel uncomfortable and out of place like the new kid on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Agent Host Environment model, according to Leavell and Clark, is beneficial for investigative causes of disease in an individual. The model attempts to explain how the interconnection of three separate elements correlates to affect an individual health status. The agent host environmental model suggests, how certain factors must be present or absent for an illness to occur; and as a result of such external factor a living organism is capable of being adversely infected or affected by outside influences (Leavell and Clark, 1965). Based on the latest Census review, more than half of Americans with dementia due to AD are at the moderate or severe stages of the disease. The accumulating care burdens associated with the progression of AD place considerable stress on caregivers and families of the person with AD, and often determine whether that person is placed in a nursing home. Furthermore, greater impairments in cognition, ADL, and behavior are associated with higher societal costs of AD related care. Successful symptomatic therapies, particularly in the moderate and severe stages of the disease, may provide substantial health and quality of life benefits, not only for the patient, but also for those in their caregiving network via reduced AD related burden and stress. Moreover, effective treatment of symptoms may also delay nursing home placement and help reduce costs related to patient care (Cummings et al., ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Jungle Stereotypes In Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, Surprisingly, I personally thought the idea of observing these cartoons with a third eye was highly effective. Usually, people tend to look past exactly what the cartoons are portraying. I noticed throughout all of the cartoons they were humanizing racism. I saw a diversity in cultures from all of the cartoons. Frequently, I observed how all the cultures were represented and the way they were dressed. Additionally, one thing that stood out from the rest was physical appearance. Between the two cartoons Little Black Sambo, Betty Boop, All this Rabbit Stew, and Jungle Jitters the African Americans all had the same physical features such as facial appearance. The setting of Little Black Sambo and Jungle Jitters were very similar plus they both had that jungle stereotype. Jungle Jitters initially illustrated how African Americans are jungle eating people. Social justice was highly embellished in Jungle Jitters explaining the lifestyle of all social classes. • 12. The Effect Of Prostaglandins On The Inflammation Pathway... The role of prostaglandins in the inflammation pathway and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs Student ID: 51555517 Date: 11 11 2015 Inflammation is a defense reaction, whereby harmful factors are removed and tissue structure and function are restored. During the acute phase of inflammation, first neutrophils will arrive, followed by monocytes. The monocytes mature into inflammatory macrophages and will finally affect the function of the resident tissue macrophages [Figure 1]. These responses lead to swelling, redness, heat and often pain. Once the first stimulus is removed, the reaction will stop and the inflammatory cells will be returned to pre inflammatory numbers. Prostaglandins play an important role in immune reactions and are therefore often targeted by anti inflammatory drugs, such as non steroid anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The specific role of prostaglandins and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs will be discussed (Ricciotti; FitzGerald, 2011). Figure 1. Basic diagram of acute inflammation (Reilkoff; Bucala et al., 2011) Prostaglandins in general Prostaglandins are formed when arachidonic acid is released from the plasma membrane by phospholipases [Figure 2]. This acid is metabolized by PGG/H synthase or cyclooxygenase (COX). The four main bioactive prostaglandins are generated in vivo: prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostacyclin (PGI2), prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and prostaglandin F2 (PGF2). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the film The Five Obstructions, constraints were used to combat Jorgen Leth s writer s block. Depending on the constraint, it can focus an artist s work. Like Anti art, constraints can offer a different perspective through potential forms of art, which is the basis of Oulipo. Restriction of what an artist can work with actually opens doors of creativity and new art forms. In The Five Obstructions, Director Lars von Trier advises Jorgen Leth on his work. Von Trier creates the first two obstructions for Leth. Leth proficiently completes the first constraint. However, von Trier criticizes Leth for using a translucent screen in the second constraint. I found Leth s use of the screen to be creative, but von Trier stuck to his guns and did not want any people to be shown from Mumbai, India. I found that the rigor that von Trier had to stick to his constraints was so that there was a consistency within the film. However, I appreciated Leth s creativity with the screen. This war took place right after WWII and it is called the cold war because there were no real battles such as with tanks and bombs. The history on the United States in war is that before the cold war the United States had fought in 24 battles and they won 17 of them. The strength and the courage that the United States has when they go to war are unbelievable. Their win to loss ratio on wars is so incredible and the weapons that they got to use weren t as accurate as todays weapons are now. The United States and the Soviet Union both liked to make bombs. They both did everything they could to perfect them and to train guys how to use them so they could use them for military purposes. • 16. Overconsumption Of Antibiotics Why does the over prescription of antibiotic medication lead to a negative economic and societal outcome? Increasing bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatments has become a worldwide issue over the last 20 years as consumer and general practitioner s incentives for a quick fix to minor illnesses have caused a negative externality for the consumption of antibiotics. A negative externality in this example is when a third party, in this case, society as a whole, is adversely affected by the overconsumption of antibiotics, due to greater bacterial resistance, causing more advanced diseases that pose a greater risk to the health of a society. The roles played by consumers, doctors and pharmaceutical manufacturers will be discussed in detail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most antibiotics require a prescription from a medical professional such as a general practitioner or specialist. According to research published in the Medical Journal of Australia during 2017: GP s have been prescribing antibiotics nine times more often than what the guidelines state. Doctors, like consumers, are driven by their own incentives. There is a strong incentive for GP s to prescribe antibiotics to patients which may not necessarily require them, due to the pressure on a doctor s time to attend to as many patients as possible. Therefore, doctors can be incentivised to undertake the simplest solution, rather than sacrifice the amount of patients that they see in order to explore other methods of treatment. Doctor s incentives tend to be skewed towards offering treatment to patients, rather than focusing on decreasing the big picture societal negative externality. Another example of an externality on the healthcare system is that amplified antibiotic resistance increases medical costs, as more expensive, potent antibiotics are required to combat stronger bacteria and infections. In the United States, Pharmaceutical companies spend over $1 billion each year on direct to consumer advertising for antibiotic prescriptions, shifting away from traditional advertisements for physicians in medical journals, towards newspapers and consumer magazines. This marketing strategy has bolstered consumer demand hugely and it poses a problem, as consumers are now heavily swayed by private institutions who have their own incentive for maximizing profits. In order to combat the issues discussed in this essay, a potential solution involves the implementation of economic incentives for drug manufacturers, consumers and doctors, employed by policy ... Alexander I: Alexander I, 1777 1825, czar of Russia (1801 25), son of Paul I (in whose murder he may have taken an indirect part). In the first years of his reign the liberalism of his Swiss tutor, Frédéric César de La Harpe, seemed to influence Alexander. He suppressed the secret police, lifted the ban on foreign travel and books, made attempts to improve the position of the serfs, and began to reform the backward educational system. In 1805, Alexander joined the coalition against Napoleon I, but after the Russian defeats at Austerlitz and Friedland he formed an alliance with Napoleon by the Treaty of Tilsit (1807) and joined Napoleon s Continental System. Alexander requested M. M. Speranski to draw up proposals for a constitution, but adopted only one aspect of Speranski s scheme, an advisory state council, and dismissed him in 1812 to placate the nobility. During this period Russia gained control of Georgia and parts of Transcaucasia as a result of prolonged ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coffee 1) Who did the Europeans get coffee from and how did it spread to Europe? A) Coffee originated in Yemen, Arabia where it was viewed as a religious beverage. Over time it spread to Mecca and Cairo, where it became a recreational drink to be drunk in a social manner in large coffee houses. It also became a popular substitute for alcohol, which was banned under Islam. Europeans traveling in the Middle East came upon coffee and coffeehouses and commented on their popularity. But it wasn t until 1652, when an Armenian servant named Pasqua Rosee opened the first coffee house in London, that coffee transformed from a little known novelty into a wide spread phenomenon. When, in 1658, Cromwell died and public opinion swung in the favor of a new monarchy, coffee houses became central in political debates and commercial business. The trend quickly caught on and coffee houses became fashionable throughout Europe. 2) Why was it so important to Europe s development that many people s beverage of choice switched from alcohol to coffee? A) Unlike alcohol s intoxicating effect, which made people sleepy and dulled their minds, coffee woke people up and made scientists, clerks, merchants and other businessmen more alert throughout the long workday. Coffeehouses also became places for people to exchange and listen to new ideas and theories in areas such as natural history, chemistry, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 19. Erikson s Theory Of Psychosocial Development My Reflection of Erikson Erik Erikson was a developmental psychologist known for his theory of psychosocial development. Unlike other theorists of his time Erikson s theory focused on human development across the lifespan from birth to late adulthood. Erikson believed that development change occurs throughout our lives in eight distinctive stages that emerge in a fixed pattern and are similar for all people. Erikson argued that each stage presents a crisis or conflict which results in either a positive or negative outcome (Feldman p.16). In this essay I will identify incidents in my own life that demonstrate each stage of development according to Erikson that I have lived through. I will also interview my Aunt Tami, who will share her experiences for the remainder of the stages of Erikson s development that I have not gone through thus far. Erikson s first stage of development is the Trust versus Mistrust stage that occurs from birth till 18 months of life. According to Erikson this is the period in which infants develop a sense of trust or mistrust, depending largely on how well their caregivers meet their needs (Feldman p. 187). During this stage of my life I was being taken care of by both Mom and Dad, but primarily by Mom. My Mom was a stay at home parent while my Dad worked. Both my parents went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed food, shelter, clothes and most importantly love and affection. Through my positive experience in this stage I developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. Gospel Of Luke And Mark Differences Essay One of the biggest differences between the Gospel of Mark and the Gospel of Luke is the length. The Gospel of Luke goes more in depth of the life of Jesus; in the Gospel of Luke, there is a section about Jesus as a child, Lk 2:41 52. Jesus birth and childhood is omitted from the Gospel of Mark, Marks Gospel starts with Jesus as an adult. The Gospel of Mark is a more condensed version of the accounts of Jesus s life. There are also differences between the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. The Gospel of Luke begins with a Dedication to Theophilus, in this dedication; the author tells Theophilus that he has constructed this gospel after much research. Both Matthew and Mark do not have this dedication. Also, the Gospel of Matthew omits the birth of John the Baptist, but the Gospel of Luke has it. Another difference between Matthew and Luke is the genealogy. Both gospels have some account Jesus genealogy but The Gospel of Mathews is longer (Mt 1:1 18); the Gospel of Luke is shorter and happens much later on (Lk 3:23 38). ... One of the differences between the Gospel of Luke and the Gospel of Mark is that the Gospel of Mark puts the Passion Narrative and journey to Jerusalem together; but, the Gospel of Luke, separates the two. Why Movement Matters By Rae Pico After reading over the two articles: Why Movement Matters by Rae Pica and Learning Through Music: The Support of Brain Research by Elizabeth Carlton, it reveals a cohesion in learning music and a child s movements. In the first article, Why Movement Matters by Rae Pica, the author expresses a shocking idea I have never think about to which that the majority of [the] people will never see the movement as a top priority in children s lives and education. This is interesting for me because as a parent myself, I see that the development of children s movement is really important because most of the time, in order for a child to perform a task, he/she requires and be able to move. • 23. Blackface In Minstrel Shows Blackface is a form of makeup used for theatrical purposes, predominantly used by non black performers portraying a black person. Blackface was mainly used in minstrel shows, also known as minstrelsy, in which Americans would charge others to watch racial and discriminatory performances. Minstrel shows were developed in the early 19th century, and every show was composed of humoristic plays, skits, acts and other visual performances that are meant to mock and make fun of people of African American descent. The shows were performed mainly by Caucasians using burnt cork as make up for the purpose of trying to represent a black person. Minstrel shows portrayed black people as stupid, silly, lazy, and happy go lucky. Therefore, these shows were made by racist Caucasians that dehumanized African Americans and made them seem like they were idiots in which they made profit from. Frederick Douglass once said that blackface performers were ...the filthy scum of white society, who have stolen from us a complexion denied them by nature, in which to make money, and pander to the corrupt taste of their white fellow citizens. The previous quote perfectly summarizes the whole concept of blackface. Minstrel shows were the cause from evolved entertainment. In 1828, Thomas Dartmouth Daddy Rice performed a song and dance routine using ugly, old, tattered clothes, and blackface in a New York City theatre. He was known as the father of American minstrelsy. • 24. Brahms’ “Wie Melodien” Op. 105 Essay The lyrics for Brahms Wie Melodien Op. 105, No. 1 are from a poem written by Klaus Groth. It is a poem that never clearly states its true meaning. Instead, it arouses an emotional feeling of one dreaming about something from the past. And, these emotional feelings are expressed in Groth s poem through a variety of images. The poem begins with using melodies as an image. In the first phrase, Like melodies draw it to me softly through the mind, the word melodies seems to be symbolic of thoughts or memories. These melodies are like a tune that you cannot get out of your head, a memory that he is unable to forget. In his next phrase, Like spring flowers blossom it and floats like a scent away, he uses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, it is not a bitter loss. Instead, the memory of that love continues to remain with him like a sweet fragrance. Groth s reference to a moist eye also seems to symbolize how the memory of this lost love continues to remain fresh (moist referring to something fresh in difference to stale) in his eyes. And at the same time, moist eye represents when an emotion is so strong (either happy or sad) that it brings tears to one s eyes. Brahms vocal and piano accompaniment do not fail to capture and express this imagery of the poem. One example of the vocal line capturing one of the poem s images is in m. 41. Here, the vocal line is falling in register, painting an image of how a tear might fall. Another example where the vocal line supports the imagery of the text is when the text is talking about how it floats like a scent away and vanishes like a breath in m. 10 and m. 23. The same text appears twice here and when it is repeated the second time it can be heard like an echo to the first statement, as it fades away and becomes lower in register at the end of the phrase. This echo that fades away supports the images in the text of floating away and vanishing. The piano accompaniment also assists in expressing the poem s imagery. • 25. Persuasive Essay On Gun Control One man with a gun can control 100 without one. Vladimir Lenin. This quote describes how one person with a gun has so much control over many others that don t. It is a good example of what is going on in society today because of all the shootings that have taken place in public, churches, and schools. These mass shootings have created such controversy as to whether or not there should be more gun control laws. On November 5, 2017, Devin Patrick Kelley began shooting inside of the Sutherlands Springs Church killing more than 20 people including children. Before this tragic incident, he had a history of domestic violence towards his ex wife and child which he was charged with disorderly conduct . Due to his criminal history, he managed to buy a rifle, that was used in the shooting, legally by lying on the background check paperwork indicating he had no criminal history. This was months after the Las Vegas shooting that had taken place on October 4, 2017 causing more than 50 fatalities. These shootings were committed by convicted felons and/or mentally ill individuals who have made it clear that the purchase of guns are easy and simple. These individuals had access to firearms because they had either gained authorization by the government or purchased it illegally by giving false information on paperwork. This has become a threat to many US citizens, for some do not feel safe because nowadays anyone can easily purchase a gun. Most people would agree that more gun control laws would not make much of a difference in the purchase of guns, however more gun control laws should be enacted because it can decrease the amount of criminals that own a gun, it can decrease the amount of homicides and suicide deaths, and it can prevent dangerous situations such as public shootings. Guns have been a big problem in society today, and those that stand behind the guns have taken the lives of innocent people. This leads to why more gun control laws should be enacted because it can decrease the amount of criminals that own unregistered guns. Convicted felons have purchased guns through gun shows or through personal connections based on the evidence provided by Amy Sherman. Sherman states, private sellers without a federal ... • 26. William Shakespeare s The Merchant Of Venice The Merchant of Venice offers another unique perspective on crossdressing as it existed on the English Renaissance stage. Howard suggests that Portia s crossdressing is more disruptive than Viola s (Howard, p. 433) because Portia herself was an unruly woman to begin with. Portia has become the master of her own destiny with the passing of her father, for she is referred to as the Lord of Belmont now that no man exists to fill such a role. What remains of the patriarchal authority, particularly the casket trial by which Portia s future husband must be chosen, is even subverted by Portia s ability to guide her suitors to a proper or incorrect choice. Her seemingly innate guile and resourcefulness set the stage for her entry into the male arena and the inversion created by her crossdressing (Newman, pp. 26 28). By becoming Balthazar, Portia steps outside of her role and function as a subservient woman. Not only does she dress like a man, but also she embarks upon behavior ill suited to her supposedly weaker intellect, that of practicing law. Amazingly enough, Portia is able to prove herself more than capable of such a task, and is ultimately able to save Antonio s life. She utilizes her male guise not to cover her innate inadequacy in the male arena, but rather solely to gain the power to enter into it. As Howard puts it, Portia seems to be able to play the man s part with conviction (Howard, p. 433). While the repercussions of Portia s inversion on the conception ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Math is used in the game of lacrosse in many ways, as an example the angle you shoot at determines where the ball goes. Also, an example of math being used would be the different shapes in the game. Like for example, the field you play on is a rectangle with different shapes and lines to determine the foul lines, shooting lines, and the half field. Another subject of math being involved in lacrosse is the area inside the net. This is how much space there is in the net, where the ball could go. In lacrosse, angles are mostly used in shooting. The area is the extent or the measurement of a surface or piece of land. The area of the boys and men s net is different because of the size of the net. The official men s lacrosse net s size is 6 H x 6 W x 7 D. The area of the net is 69.6 square feet, to find this out first you need to multiply the depth of 7 ft. and the height of 6 ft. which will bring you to 42 ft. After you have done that you take the two numbers of the net, which would be 6 and 7, and you times them by themselves. This would lead you with 36 and 49. You then add these numbers to get 85 and square root this number to get 9.2. Now if you where to times the leftover 6 and the 9.2 you would get 55.2. After that you divide that by two to get 27.6 which would would add to the 42 you got before and your answer would come out and be 69.6 square feet. The lacrosse field has certain measurements and lines on it. The field is played on a 110 yd. (100 m.) long and 60 yd. (55 m.) wide field. There are five lines or areas of the field, one of them is the midfield line, which divides the whole field into two, so the sides are 50 m. on each side. How it happened it is impossible to say because it came about step by step, unnoticed, but in the third month of Ivan Ilych s illness, his wife, his daughter, his son, his acquaintances, the doctors, the servants, and above all he himself, were aware that the whole interest he had for other people was whether he would soon vacate his place, and at last release the living from the discomfort caused by his presence and be himself released from his sufferings (VII, 1 2). Ivan is fully aware of the fact that the only thing people around him care about is when he is going to expire.
