Self directed learning (SDL) is process
learning without teaching to increase
knowledge, skill, or personal development by
his or her own efforts using any
circumstance at any time
Aspect of SDL
 Control the students learning experience that occur.
The main changes from Teacher Directed Learning (TDL) to
Self Directed Learning (SDL) are a change in the influence of
the teacher to the student. Student began forming their opinions
and ideas.
 Development of Expertise
SDL emphasis on skills an processes towards productive
activities. Students to think independently, to plan and
implement their own activities.
Stage Self Directed Learning
 Students to think independently
At this stage of classroom learning methods TDL.
 Taught learning management itself
In the self-management, teachers transform the
program into a package of learning where students can
work in their own way.
 Self directed learning
Students choose their own learning outcomes, they
decide what they want to learn.
The characteristic of Self Directed Learning
 SDL with low categorize
Student preferred learning process that has been set.
 SDL with middle categorize
Student success in an independent situation, but can
not fully identify learning
 SDL with high categorize
Student are usually able to identify their learning
needs.
Independence of learners and learning success.
The level of student’s independence is closely related
to the selection of the program. In the limit Moore
(Keegan 1991) said that :
“ Impendence is the extended to which students in
the learning process, students can participate
determine the objectives, materials and learning
experiences, and evaluation of learning”
Student who are very self has the following characteristic :
 Already know exactly what pliers want to accomplish in their
learning activities
 Have selected their own learning resource and know where he
can find study materials desired
Student who have not been independently usually do not have a degree
of independence. Students as it has the following characteristic :
 More like a structured learning program that already.
 Preferred to follow the learning program of study materials has been
defined clearly and ways of learning have also been determined

  • 2. Self directed learning (SDL) is process learning without teaching to increase knowledge, skill, or personal development by his or her own efforts using any circumstance at any time
  • 3. Aspect of SDL  Control the students learning experience that occur. The main changes from Teacher Directed Learning (TDL) to Self Directed Learning (SDL) are a change in the influence of the teacher to the student. Student began forming their opinions and ideas.  Development of Expertise SDL emphasis on skills an processes towards productive activities. Students to think independently, to plan and implement their own activities.
  • 4. Stage Self Directed Learning  Students to think independently At this stage of classroom learning methods TDL.  Taught learning management itself In the self-management, teachers transform the program into a package of learning where students can work in their own way.  Self directed learning Students choose their own learning outcomes, they decide what they want to learn.
  • 5. The characteristic of Self Directed Learning  SDL with low categorize Student preferred learning process that has been set.  SDL with middle categorize Student success in an independent situation, but can not fully identify learning  SDL with high categorize Student are usually able to identify their learning needs.
  • 6. Independence of learners and learning success. The level of student’s independence is closely related to the selection of the program. In the limit Moore (Keegan 1991) said that : “ Impendence is the extended to which students in the learning process, students can participate determine the objectives, materials and learning experiences, and evaluation of learning”
