This document outlines the expectations and curriculum for a Primary 4 class. It details what is expected of students in terms of behavior and academics. It also provides information on how parents can support their children at home, including with homework, reading, math, and spelling. The curriculum focuses on literacy, math, and an interdisciplinary learning topic on climates. Information is also given on class routines, positive behavior systems, and how to contact the teachers if needed.

 Now that the pupils are in Primary 4, there will
be an expectation all children respect the
environment in which they are learning and
respect others belongings.
 We expect good behaviour and good manners
at all times.
 We ask the children to try their best at all times,
working neatly and productively.

Please support your children in preparing for school
each day, your child should bring:
 a sharp pencil and ruler
 a rubber
 a pritt stick
 highlighter pens
 library book
 reading record
 a healthy, nut free snack
 a P.E kit- black shorts and white t-shirt (including
jogging bottoms and outdoor P.E shoes)
 water bottle
Please ensure that your child’s name is on all of their
belongings

 Ask questions to check understanding
 Ask the child to summarise what they have just read
in their own words
 Make flash cards of any words the child is struggling
to read and practise those daily

 Regular practise of number bonds, times tables,
quick fire mental maths sums in real life contexts

SpellingSpelling
 Practise their spelling words daily
 Test them on the words
 Make sure the child understands the meaning
 Encourage the use of a dictionary and thesaurus
 Active spelling games

6. HomeworkHomework
In Primary 4, homework tasks are now recorded in a
blue homework diary.
We would appreciate if the diary and homework could
be signed.
 Spelling – Spelling homework is set on a Monday
and should be handed in by Friday. Pupils are
tested on Friday. Words are taken from the Single
Word Spelling Test scheme or a topic related.
 Weekly spelling should also be completed with the
appropriate spelling activities noted in spelling
homework jotters.

7. ReadingReading
 Your child will take part in Ready for Reading once a
week. Reading homework will be given on either a
Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and due the
following week.
MathsMaths
 Maths homework will be set on a Monday and should
be returned on Friday. This may include a challenge on
Sumdog.
Other Curricular AreasOther Curricular Areas
 This term, children will be learning about Crazy
Climates. At times, children may be given homework
activities on this.

 Mrs Kellner and Mrs Combe will provide extra
support in class.

10. The Crazy Climates- Literacy, Social Studies and
Technology focus. Also links to Expressive Arts, ICT and
Science.
Maths- place value, addition and subtraction, mental and
written method, and data handling.
Literacy- Ready for Reading, writing linked to IDL Topic
(describing climate, fact files, letters, weather report),
spelling and grammar
RME- community
P.E- Games – ball skills
Music- Experiencing Sounds
French- general revision of key greetings and topic related.

12.  There will be a parent information evening for
parents of pupils going to Dalguise on Thursday
