To show my understanding, I can respond to literal, inferential and
evaluative questions and other close reading tasks and can create
different kinds of questions of my own.

 Importance of fluency, expression and comprehension.
 Questioning aids comprehension.
Asking questions:
 Helps readers interact with text.
 Sets a purpose for reading.
 Requires readers to go beyond the text.

I regularly select and read, listen to or watch texts
which I enjoy and find interesting, and I can
explain why I prefer certain texts and authors.

ENG 2-17a  Importance of fluency, expression and comprehension.  Questioning aids comprehension. Asking questions:  Helps readers interact with text.  Sets a purpose for reading.  Requires readers to go beyond the text. “Questioning is the strategy that propels readers on.   • 4.  Before ◦ Look at cover, titles, features “I wonder who she is?” “When does this take place?” “I wonder what’s going to happen.”  During ◦ “Who is talking here?” ◦ “What does that word mean?” ◦ “Why did ____ do that?” ◦ Why did the author put that in there?  After ◦ “I wonder what really happened to___.” ◦ “What else can I find out about ____?” ◦ “What do you think will happen next?”
  • 5.  Curriculum for Excellence: I regularly select and read, listen to or watch texts which I enjoy and find interesting, and I can explain why I prefer certain texts and authors.
