Builds a bridge between home and school for
the children.
Time for teacher to interact and build
relationships with the children. GIRFEC
(Getting It Right For Every Child).
Children can make choices, play and socialise,
which enhances learning.
Teacher can observe and listen to the views of
the children.
5. Rules &
Responsibilities
Rules – agreed on as a class.
Traffic light system - all children start the day on green.
Verbal warning given if rule is broken followed by a
traffic light change if ignored. Noted in the homework
book so you can discuss the incident at home. Red light
= 5 minutes of golden time lost. Children can earn a
green light back.
Restorative practice used to ensure all children are
treated fairly.

Count everything! Steps, books, cars, trees, socks etc.
When tidying encourage children to order items by size or group
by colour.
Keep track of their height together as they grow.
Help with shopping and money at the shops.Count change into
piggy bank.
Help to bake or cook following a recipe.
Play board games which require counting e.g. snakes and ladders.
Point out the time and look at the clock together at important
times in the day e.g. dinner time, bed time.
Have a calendar in the house and change to the right date, month
etc.
Lots of online games, follow links on twitter and blogs.
