This Term…
• Our IDL context will be “Toy Story”. This
will cover the curricular areas of Social
Studies, Maths and Technologies.
• In Science we will cover forces.
• In Music we will explore beat, pitch and
tempo
• In RME we will cover harvest.
• In P.E. we will cover basic movements and
“Enjoy-a-ball” workshops for our specialist
Literacy – Jolly Phonics
Children will participate in various
activities which will develop their:
• Letter recognition skills
• Letter formation skills
• Blending skills
• Identifying sounds in words
• Tricky words
Literacy – Oxford Reading Tree
• Oxford reading tree will be our main
reading scheme.
• Each comes with a set of key words
which will be practiced in class and
sent home.
• Children will take part in active
reading tasks to develop and
consolidate their reading skills
Literacy – Reading
Other resources that may be used
include:
• Snapdragon books - fiction
• Fireflies – Non-fiction
• Rhyme books
Literacy – Writing
• Personal writing
• Black pen drawings
• Writing from experience
• Teacher modelling
• Teacher scribes story, children begin to write familiar words
• Functional writing – lists, letters, instructions etc
• Imaginative writing
• VCOP - vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation,
• Up-levelling
Numeracy and Maths
Number will be taught through active tasks in
rotations. This will develop skills in:
• Numerals and number structure from 0 to
10 and then beyond – dots, fingers, ten
frames, rekenrek
• Forward and backward number word
sequences
• Counting in steps of one, two, five & ten
• Formation of numbers
• Addition and subtraction within 10 and
beyond
• Sharing
Numeracy and Maths
Beyond Number:
• Sorting and matching
• Pattern
• 2D shapes and 3D objects
• Recognising and using coins
• Information handling
• Time -days of week, months of
year, seasons, key dates, o’clock
Homework
• Homework will be issued on a Monday to be returned on Friday
• Reading books and new words to be practised every night (For
additional support at home see the reading videos on the school
blog)
• Jolly phonics sound sheets
• Number or Maths work
• Topic related tasks (when relevant)
• Please bring homework folders with reading books, diaries and
word tubs to school every day.
Sway
• We willbe usingSway as an onlinetool to
record pupils learningin Literacy, Numeracy
and Maths and IDL.
• This willbe available to access throughthe
school blog and QR codes in your child’s
jotters.

  • 6. Lunchtime Reminder • School lunches are ordered daily through iPay impact – All P1-3 children are entitled to free school dinner • You can look at the lunches at home with your child and pre order your child’s lunch.
  • 8. This Term… • Our IDL context will be “Toy Story”. This will cover the curricular areas of Social Studies, Maths and Technologies. • In Science we will cover forces. • In Music we will explore beat, pitch and tempo • In RME we will cover harvest. • In P.E. we will cover basic movements and “Enjoy-a-ball” workshops for our specialist
  • 9. Literacy – Jolly Phonics Children will participate in various activities which will develop their: • Letter recognition skills • Letter formation skills • Blending skills • Identifying sounds in words • Tricky words
  • 10. Literacy – Oxford Reading Tree • Oxford reading tree will be our main reading scheme. • Each comes with a set of key words which will be practiced in class and sent home. • Children will take part in active reading tasks to develop and consolidate their reading skills
  • 11. Literacy – Reading Other resources that may be used include: • Snapdragon books - fiction • Fireflies – Non-fiction • Rhyme books
  • 12. Literacy – Writing • Personal writing • Black pen drawings • Writing from experience • Teacher modelling • Teacher scribes story, children begin to write familiar words • Functional writing – lists, letters, instructions etc • Imaginative writing • VCOP - vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation, • Up-levelling

  • 14. Numeracy and Maths Number will be taught through active tasks in rotations. This will develop skills in: • Numerals and number structure from 0 to 10 and then beyond – dots, fingers, ten frames, rekenrek • Forward and backward number word sequences • Counting in steps of one, two, five & ten • Formation of numbers • Addition and subtraction within 10 and beyond • Sharing
  • 15. Numeracy and Maths Beyond Number: • Sorting and matching • Pattern • 2D shapes and 3D objects • Recognising and using coins • Information handling • Time -days of week, months of year, seasons, key dates, o’clock

Homework • Homework will be issued on a Monday to be returned on Friday • Reading books and new words to be practised every night (For additional support at home see the reading videos on the school blog) • Jolly phonics sound sheets • Number or Maths work • Topic related tasks (when relevant) • Please bring homework folders with reading books, diaries and word tubs to school every day.
  • 18. Sway • We willbe usingSway as an onlinetool to record pupils learningin Literacy, Numeracy and Maths and IDL. • This willbe available to access throughthe school blog and QR codes in your child’s jotters.
