This document discusses image choices for different sections of a music magazine. For the front cover, the author chose an image of an artist performing that related to one of the cover stories and depicted typical music magazine concepts. For interior pages, images were chosen of the featured artists Lawson that portrayed them as humble, innocent, and vulnerable to appeal to the target audience. Images for opening spreads were also selected to represent the artists as dreamers and passionate about music in order to inspire readers. Throughout, the author aimed to use images that balanced genres and gender representation to be relatable.

1. Front cover images – sub images
I decided to use this image for one of my sub-
images on my front cover as the image relates
to one of my cover stories e.g. Lawson touring.
The mise-en-sceneusedinthisimage isrelevant
as it relates to the concepts of a music
magazine asit involves musical equipment e.g.
the microphone, microphone stand and guitar.
The use of lighting allows the reader to know
that the individual is on a stage performing. I
also cropped the image so that it was
proportionate and could fit to the Polaroid
template.Also cropping the image draws more
attention to the individual more than to the
background. This was intentional as one of my
main aims for the entire magazine was to draw
attentiontothe individualandsolelythe music.
The use of the medium shot also draws
attention to his face, capturing him looking up
and outintothe audience creatingatenderness
and humbleness to him, as one of my other
intentions was to create a humble and
appreciative artist and not an arrogant, self-
loving artist in which I feel this image
encapsulates.
This is another sub-image in relation to my
Lawson article. The mise-en-scene and the
reasoningforthisimage is the same as for the
image above.The use of the medium shot and
the effect of the individual looking down
presents him as rather innocent; a side in
which I wanted to present to my audience of
my artists showing that everyone has a
vulnerable side even professional singers.
However the use of the messy hair presents
himas a conventionalteenager/youngadultas
they do not take a lot of pride with their
appearance.

2. Contents page images:
I decided to use this image as one of my main
story images as the use of the canted angle
suggests his thinking, hoping, aspiring and
thankful. This image was used to address my
target audience as it suggests that dreams do
come true as long as you hope, aspire and
work hard for them. My artist is presented as
dreamers as so are my audience. I also
thought this image was affected due to the
red lighting as it fits with my colour scheme.
I decided to use this image as it captures a young artists on stage
performing in which many of my readers would want to do as a
future career. The use of the medium close up shot captures his
closing his eyes and really feeling the music, presenting his as a
passionate individual inwhichthe majorityof myreaderswouldfeel
towards music.The use of the mise-en-scene of the microphoneand
guitaralso presentshimasan individual whoknow andunderstands
music.
The effect of using this image was to ensure that I
had a balance of genders within my images as my
productis forboth gendersandnotjust one.The use
of mise-en-scenepresents her as a rock chick. This is
achievedthroughthe use of a red and black checked
dress, ruffled hair and dark eye make-up, which is
not usedexcessively.Itriedto a balance in-between
indie androck andI feel like thisimage achievedthat
by usinganacoustic guitar(indie) and the use of the
clothes.

3. Double Page spread images:
I decided to use this image because I wanted to achieve
balance between the indie and rock genre I did this by
telling the model to use an electric guitar in this image. I
used a canted angle to present him as a dreamer similar to
the one of the previous content page images. This concept
isfurtheredthroughthe use of top lighting, presenting him
as innocent. I also used a low angle so he is presented as
power and strong.
I used this image in order to relate to the party
lifestyle that many of my target audience are
likelytolive.Thisisshownthroughthe choice of
mise-en-scene of the beerbottle.Italsopresents
teenagers today, playing on phones, having a
good time with friends and drinking alcohol. I
used this image as my product is to reach a
lifestyle andnotjustthe musical element of it. It
also portrays males and females; balancing the
ratioof genderinorderto relate tomy audience.
I decided to use this image as it captured my artists at
differentlevels.Italsocapturestheirmessy,relaxed teenage
look with their messy hair and casual clothes. There is also a
direct mode of address as both are starring directly into the
camera allowing the artists to connect with the audience.

4. I decided to use this image as it shows
both of my artists in their niche, doing
what they love to do. This is something
the audience may relate to as the
majority of my audience are likely to be
able to play music and be in their own
band.
