majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the
case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty
for a guilty plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent
and the juryrules him guilty the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford
accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires him to plead guilty to murder in the
second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was

just society. Social workers serve the purpose of enriching society by enhancing
social justice and eliminating social oppression. Mandates and mission statements
support these objectives within social service agencies both in for profit and
nonprofit sectors. One thing that every social service agency has in common is
the overarching ideology that shapes the society they serve and more specifically,
ideology influences the way an agency can conduct its services. Philosophy in most
cases only goes as far as policy allows it too. This paper will examine the similarities
and differences from western child welfare policy in the United States (US) and look
1974 marked the introduction to legislation that captured child maltreatment and
enabled funding to support and develop child abuse reporting systems and procedures
for managing maltreatment reports. From the introduction of legislation through time
new policies were developed to adhere to the provisions of adoption, family
preservation, and family support. Similar to other developed countries in child
welfare, visions for community caring systems are developed for families and
maintaining children in their own community as initial responses. Family centered
practice, culture connection, and community continuity are viewed as important
variables to serve the best interest of a child.
In the US, African American and American Indian children are overrepresented in
the child welfare system. There is a lack of cultural competence which can lead to

best at modeling this behavior. According to Gilbert(2011) in the 1990 s policy

Summary
The story opens on a chilly December morning. An elderly Africanв€’American
woman named Phoenix Jackson is making her way, slowly but surely, through the
woods, tapping an umbrella on the ground in front of her as she walks. Her shoes
are untied. While she taps along, she talks to the animals in the woods, telling
them to keep out of her way. As the path goes up a hill, she complains about how
difficult walking becomes. It becomes evident that she has made this journey
many times before; she is familiar with all the twists and turns in the trail. She
talks aimlessly to herself. Her eyesight is poor, and she catches her skirt in the
thorns on a bush. After walking across a log to traverse a stream, she rests. She
imagines a boy bringing her a slice of cake but opens her eyes to find her hand in
the air, grasping nothing. The terrain becomes more difficult, and at a certain point
she thinks she sees a ghost, but it is only a scarecrow. Blaming the confusion on
her age and the fact that her senses is gone, she moves on. She meets a black dog
with a lolling tongue. She hits the dog lightly with her cane, and the effort knocks

Un Fallible Seducer-He Wins The Soul
Augustine was a faithful believer in Christ. He was constantly surveying the Lords
movement within the Catholic Church. Moreover, He felt that the invisible church
body were true Christians and they did not follow any other idea outside of the
ministry that he objected to such as the Donatist.
Those seeking the truth of the Lord even outside of the church will receive him and
the true seekers of the truth are the true Christian.
The condition of the heart in the church operates in this manner, and I quote from
Lane, We cannot distinguish the true from the false . (Lane, pg.50)
An example of this behavior would be about baptism. A believer would say Yes to be
washed from sin. Consequently, another in the congregation would say they believe ...
God gives grace, Not all believe (Lane,50 51). Lane wrote that Augustine believed
and said, Many non believers can make the first move, and by free will accept God.
(Lane, pg.50)
Lane wrote, God is a un fallible seducer he wins the soul . (Lane, pg.51)
Furthermore, Augustine had compared the people within his congregation to Jesus
parable the Wheat and the tare because he believed the congregation was mixed
with the true believers and non believers but really, he couldn t judge from the
wheat or the tare God only knew the individuality of the people s heart. He wasn t
going to uproot the wheat while focusing on uprooting the tare. Who is to say what is
wheat and what is tare? Only Jesus knew so why uproot what you can t see, and this
is Augustine s understanding.
Lastly, Jesus s belief and Augustine doctrine are helpful in realizing that we the
Church do not attend to accuse our brethren of being unholy. The church is a
refuge, not a space to point the finger and say what row is going to hell or what
row is on the way to heaven. We are there to hear about the Lord and Jesus says do
not try to uproot the tare it could harm the
