A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Media a2 evaluation
1. 4. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE RESEARCH, PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION AND
EVALUATION STAGES?
A presentation on technologies throughout all the stages
of my media coursework
2. TECHNOLOGIES IN THE RESEARCH,
PLANNING, CONSTRUCTION AND
EVALUATION STAGES
• Whilst carrying out the research of my product I used technologies such as
Google to research into theories to get an idea of my audience furthermore,
I used Google to look a real media products (magazines) such as Q
magazine and Vogue to get an idea of what my media product should look
like (layout, font, image etc)
• During the planning stage I used Wix to create a website to display all my
research, planning and evaluation
• When constructing the product I used a DSLR camera (Canon 700D) and
iphoneX also editing apps on my phone such as FaceTune, VSCOCam, Picsart
etc.
• For my evaluation I used Wix and powerpoint
3. WIX
• I used Wix to create my blog to upload all of my research, planning and
evaluation on. I explored the website and played around with it to get
the hang of it. Eventually I learnt how to add in links from other sites
such as Instagram to show my photography skills in addition, I learnt
how to make a creative, professional blog by using different layouts and
menus. I also learnt how to use navigation to separate but link all my
work together so it looks professional. I made the links interactive and
added images and videos to make my blog more outstanding and draws
the reader.
4. GOOGLE
• Google is a search engine so you could find out a lot of information. I
used this advantage to research into real media products and looked at
magazines such as Q and Vogue. It allowed me to see how magazines
look like (layout) and what magazines choose to display on their front
page. Google also allowed me to research theorists this helped me
further understand my target audience and helped me plan out my
magazine even further. Although I already know how to use Google
therefore I have not learned anything however that was because Google
is very simple and easy to use!
5. YOUTUBE
• YouTube is another very useful technology to use. This platform allowed
me to listen and look and music that I will be including in my magazine,
It allowed me to see comments and look at the age range and type of
audience which then further helps me distinguish the audience for my
magazine. It allowed me to see what music artists I should add in my
magazine (what artists are poplar now) that way my magazine would
attract more people. Furthermore, it allowed me to share my media such
as my radio ad to the public.
6. DROPBOX
• Dropbox is a file hosting service this site allowed me to transfer and
store my photographs from my camera and iphone. When editing my
photographs on my phone I quickly transfer and upload it onto dropbox
and simply use my laptop and all the photographs will be online. This
helped me as there is not a lot of storage on my phone and camera SD
furthermore, It separates my media coursework photographs with other
things it was very easy and convient to use.
7. CAMERA
• During the process of producing my media product I used a Canon
700D DSLR camera. I have learnt so many camera techniques such as
depth of field. It is important to explore new camera techniques because
it allows you to become more creative with your photography.
• Furthermore, camera angles is as important as camera techniques as it
gives a different feeling to an imagine furthermore, different
perspectives as things are shown through different angle, for example a
photograph of a person from a low angle will make the person seem
powerful and dominant
8. FACETUNE
• Facetune app is a technology phone app that allows you to edit and
manipulate images. It gives you a variety of tools to use such as heal
which
you can see in the video clip inserted in the slide show removes and
blends blemishes making the photograph and model flawless and
smooth.
• Facetune also allows you to control the brightness and contrast of the
photograph. Using the Facetune app I lowered the brightness to make
the photograph appear a bit more darker giving off a heavy atmosphere.
• I am new to Facetune app and personally it was very easy and quick to
use
all it is, is a quick adjustment and swipes / taps and the photograph will
come out very professional and flawless.
9. VSCOCAM
• VSCO cam is another phone app that I used to edit my photograph.
There are filter options which makes the photo more creative and stands
out from a normal photograph. Using this app there are also tools for
adjustments such as brightness, saturation etc. however already done
that in the Facetune app I used VSCOCam to add a filter on my
photograph as well as made the photo ‘grainy’ the reason for this is
because the theme of my magazine is London fashion and music in
current time the trend in fashion is 80s/90s inspired but 2018 flip. Back
in the days VHS camera was very popular and cameras are not advanced
as todays so I made the photo grainy to give off that ‘old’ look and feel.
10. POWERPOINT / SLIDESHARE
• PowerPoint is a technology used to create presentations. It includes text,
image, videos etc.
• I used PowerPoint to present my evaluation
11. PINTEREST
• I used Pinterest to find images and create a mood board filled with ideas
for a billboard. This further helped my research and idea development, it
gave me an inspiration for billboards. It was able to show me ways in
which others had gone out and created media products.
