WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM
THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS
 Since beginning the course, I have developed a number of
technological skills which have enabled me to create the magazine
front page, contents and double-page spread.
CAMERA TUTORIALS
 I had a tutorial on how to use a Canon DSLR camera, which enabled me
to control aperture, light and other elements of my pictures to achieve
the image I wanted on the cover of my magazine.
 It also allowed me to take photos which were much clearer and high
quality than a smartphone camera. I also learned how to use different
camera shots and what effect each of them had.
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
 I learned how to use a number of different elements in Adobe
Photoshop which I hadn’t previously used although I already had
experience with Photoshop.
 I was able to control colour levels and balance colour in an image, for
example for the image of Mel on the front cover, I was able to increase
the red in her lips, and increase blue/cyan for her eyes.
 This was appropriate as it made her lips and eyes stand out which
allowed me to attract the reader. It also allowed me to create the look
which many other magazines use.
ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
 I also learned how to use the curves adjustment feature, which allowed me to change lighting
levels on the image to achieve the look I wanted; it also ensured that skin tones, and the
overall effect of my photograph was were of a good standard.
 I also used the dodge and burn tools to darken and lighten specific parts of the image and the
spot-healing brush to cover up any parts of the image such as a spot which wouldn’t usually
be seen on the front of a magazine cover.
 These effects were appropriate as they made the photograph look professional and where
elements of lighting adjusted the colour of Mel’s face, I was able to correct it. This made the
picture look smooth and clear. It also allowed me to remove spots which are not seen on the
covers of any magazines in the industry.
 I learned how to use wix.com, which I needed to create my blog. This
enabled me to put together my research, planning, construction and
allowed me to bring all of my coursework together in one place.
 I had to learn how to import video and images and accompany text to
them in order to explain specific elements of my work.
 It was easy to learn, and allowed me to start with an empty template
and create my blog to a similar style of my magazine.
PAWTOON AND PREZI
 I also learned how to use presentation software such as Pawtoon and
Prezi which I hadn’t used before to present my evaluation questions.
 This was an interesting and creative way of making presentations and
something which I enjoyed learning.
 It allowed me to use different technologies to express my evaluation in
different ways, rather than just text.
WHAT I NEED TO IMPROVE UPON
 I need to make full use of Photoshop and explore further effects which
are used by production companies in the industry. This would make my
image look more professional.
 I also need to improve with camera skills, because although the
majority of my photographs were clear, my first photoshoot had some
photographs which were blurry and had to be sharpened with
Photoshop. This was due to the camera not being focussed – I need to
ensure the camera is set up properly before the Photoshoot.
