1. Q4: How Did You Use New Media
Technologies in The Construction of
Research, Planning and Evaluation
2. Use of technologies
I used a range of new media technologies
throughout the process of creating my media
product, including but not limited to my research,
planning and construction. These technologies
allowed me to easily document and save my work
and findings online which meant I could continue
working on my project as a whole, no matter where
I am.
3. Research
●
●
For the research section of my project I used multiple services from
the internet to find and compare sources and ultimately gather the
conventions required in order to make my project.
What I've used: I've used a wide range of websites such as google and
socialbakers. Google allowed me to easily find the videos on youtube in
order to analyze them for common conventions, where as socialbakers
showed me statistics on the users that watch each video, so that I could see
what kind of target audience I had, because of this I was able to cater my
video to my audience.
4. Planning
●
●
For the planning of my product I used many new
media technologies which allowed me to easily
produce and keep on track of my product. I also made
use of multiple services which allowed me to preset
my work.
What I've used: First and foremost, the main website that I
used was Google's “blogger” service. This allowed me to
document and save all of my work online and access it
anywhere whilst keeping it organized. This was very
important for me as keeping work organized in folders is a
big hassle. I used Youtube to upload my video drafts and
easily embed them into my blog in order to show the
progress that I've made. I also used slideshare to share my
presentations (such as this one) and easily embed them into
my blog without the user requiring any software.

I used a service called Wix which is
a website builder that provides
hundreds of templates pre-made,
enabled with a simple drag and drop
feature. This meant that I was able
to rapidly build a full and functional
website for my artist is a matter of
hours. Wix has an abundance of
features including everything from
code embedment to uploading an
image to the header which allowed
me to reach the targets I needed
such as embedding my twitter feed.

Within the construction phase of my video, I used a wide range of different technologies in order to aid me in
completing my project.
One of the obvious tools that I have made use of s he HD camera supplied by Graveney School. This allowed
me to record the camera whilst I had it booked out, however when the camera was due back I decided to make
full use of technological convergence by using my iPhone to finish recording some of the clips.
One of the other tools I used (which I used with the HD camera) was the memory card also issued by my sixth
form. The memory card meant I was able to easily take the clips from the camera and load them up to the iMac
ready to edit on final cut pro.
I also used final cut pro, which is an editing software developed by Apple. Due to the abundance of transitions
and effects I was able to fully edit my music video exactly the way I envisioned it to be. For example, I wante to
enhance the effect of the trains coming in and out of the shots and so I used a transition called “slide” which
literally pushed the frame to the side, and by sliding the frame in the same direction that the train was moving it
made the shot seem a lot for smooth and fluid.

Facebook is a social networking website that has been used by hundreds of
thousands of corporations and other artists due to the ease of use and potential
audience you can gather through viral marketing. I also used FaceBook for a
number of reasons throughout my project. Firstly, I had created a FaceBook page
for my artist so that fans could follow and interact with the artist. A FaceBook page
is a great way to share new content and gather a greater audience through likes,
comments and shares. I used FaceBook to get opinions from my audience when I
posted content that I may use in my project, such as pictures and clips. Also, I used
FaceBook to save me some time as I could go onto the personal page of the artist
and get images from there of the artists to use within my project as I had permission
to do so. Some advantages of FaceBook is the fact that I could so easily get
responses from a huge amount of people very quickly, although limited because I
couldn't reach far past my friends list and so the opinions couldn't really be applied
to the entire general population.

I also used a website known as Twitter. Twitter is a social networking site
where people can tweet each other and follow other peoples accounts. For
my project I decided to make a twitter account so that fans could follow me
and get the latest news on concerts and performances. Through wix I was
able to easily embed it by copying the HTML code that twitter provided me
with under their widget tab.
I also used soundcloud to share my track and embed it into my blog for easy
reference. Soundcloud is a website that allows you to upload music and
share it with people from all around the world.

I used PhotoShop to create and edit my digipak professionally. Luckily I had
done graphics for GCSE and so I had a bit of experience with PhotoShop
beforehand in order to rapidly start building my digipak from scratch.
Photoshop is a program developed by Adobe which uses very sophisticated
methods to edit and manipulate imagery. Since my genre was electronic it
was very important for me to make my digipak look almost quite
“psychedelic” to help fully represent the music that I was marketing,
fortunately due to the abundance of effects and options in the application I
was able to reach that target whilst maintaining my aim of keeping the design
very abstract.
Photoshop is much better than a more simple image editor such as paint for
example as it is much more advanced and has features that I used such as the
filter effects tools which allowed me to enhance any image, and image
masking which allowed me to easily overlay an image over another without
affecting the area around it. Some of the effects that helped me immensely are
the Magic Wand tool, for example, which sped up the process of selecting
particular areas on the image in order to move or delete. Also I used the pen
tool to create paths and fill them later on with a stroke to make these smooth
lines that went around the logo.

had it booked out, however when the camera was due back I decided to make full
use of technological convergence by using my iPhone to finish recording some of
the clips. Both of these cameras were very lightweight, portable, digital (and so
made full use of natural lighting, as opposed to celluloid film strips), and ease of use
(getting the footage was quick). I used the camera for my actual music video but
also for my preliminary footage.
One of the other tools I used (which I used with the HD camera) was the memory
card also issued by my sixth form. The memory card meant I was able to easily take
