1. How Did You Use Media Technologies In The Construction And Research,
Planning And Evaluation Stages?
In this coursework I created a Music Video, a Music Magazine Advertand a
Digi-pak and when creating these I used a lot of different media technologies.
The most prolific was using a DSLRcamera, more specifically the Canon
550D (T2i). I used this to shootthe music video, and take all of the pictures. I had
used a DLSRin my AS coursework so understand thebasic principles of how they
worked so this year was able to experiment and try out new ways of using this
equipment. For example I was no confident to use the camera in manual mode
and gain full control of technicalities such as the ISO, Shutter Speed, Apertureand
compositional modes. I was also able to now use different lenses such as the
Canon 50mm1.8 PrimeLens. This being another media technical as the lower
aperture meant I could use a lot deeper field of focus and create bokeh in the
shots. I think that now fully understand how to operate the camera I was able to
get moredynamic footage for the music video and stronger image for the
ancillary’s. This DSLRwas a big part in the construction stages of my unit as it is
what everything was recorded on was vital for my music video.
To edit the video footagethat we had collected over the period of a few
months, I used Adobe Premier Pro. This was new softwarefor me that I had not
used before so took some getting used to. I got some of my clips and practiced
making simple cuts, add effects and playing around with the basic feature until I
felt comfortablewithin the softwareI could then useYouTube to search for
tutorial in how to do different things such as color correcting, blending takes,
importing footage fromiPhones and exporting. I found that using the software
was successfulas I was ableto do lots of different things as it was professional
software, however it was very time consuming as I had to do things multiple
times as they wouldn’twork the firsttime around, or would export differently or
the softwarewould crash. This again was used in the construction stageas it is
the softwarethat was used to constructthe samples, drafts and final edit.
To add more dynamic shots and to also be able to capture footagewhere I
couldn’t take the big DLSRI used my iPhone5s to record somefootage, such as in

2. cars and buses and on night outs. Using the iPhone to record with meant that I
could get lots of different types of shots to help break up the video and add more
interesting compositions. However a big limitation was that there was a clear
difference to the quality of footageand this created a discounted within the
video, it could be slightly over come with sometweaking of lighting and contrast
but was still noticeable when put next to the clips that had been filmed on the
DLSR.
To edit the images for the ancillary’s I used Adobe Photoshop and Adobe
Lightroom. These are the two most popular software’s when it come to image
manipulation and editing. In my AS year I had already used this softwareand was
fully understanding of what i could do in it. So in this year using the softwarewas
very easy, I had no difficulties and was able to edit my images, render my digi-pak
and advertto a professionalstandard. Using adjustment levels transformtools,
layer settings and blend modes I was able to create a strong set of visual work.
With this softwarebecauseit is at a professionalstandard therewere no
limitations. I used this technology in my construction and planning areas as it was
used to constructthe images and ancillary’s butis also whatwas used to create
the plans and ideas for the ancillary’s.
Social media was something that I also used in the unit of work. Itwas used
to get other people to participate in the market and audience research and was a
key component in the research stages. Facebook was used to make a group in
which we could post our draftedit and gain responses and feedback in order to
help us make improvements and move forwards with the video. This was a key
piece of media technologies that helped us gain vital feedback. However with that
being said the only issuewas that people sometimes did know whatto writeas all
there is, is a comment box and there fore somepeople left very vaguefeedback
and somepeople write a lot morein depths. Another socialmedia platformthat
was used was Twitter. This was used to help gain more attention to my market
research questionnaireand help me get more qualative and quantive data that
would be a lot more valid as it would havemore people behind the results and
findings.

3. MicrosoftWord and MicrosoftPower Pointwere used when creating may
written work to go on my blog. With these two pieces of technology I was able to
make essays and slideshows to hold my work on. They both had auto capitalize,
spell, grammar and syntax check and the ability to use different fonts, colors and
include images and videos. This meant that written could be done quickly without
hassle. My evaluation and research work could not havebeen done without these
programs so they were a key piece of technology.
Online technologies such as Blogger, Prezzi, Slide shareand SoundCloud
were used as platforms to postmy work, created more dynamic presentations,
put my Word and PowerPointdocuments into something that could be embed
into. They all werevery helpful in assisting me with the work and being good
media technologies with strengths. These technologies helped me the most in my
evaluation and research stages and this is where mostof the written work was
carried out.
All of this digital technology is used to create and publish and produce
content. This connection between the different technologies is all via
technological convergence as I reached audiences ,markets and existing products,
record video and still footage, edited imagers test and video, distributed them to
the public and presented them in n formats that are easily readable all fromone
computer and one camera.
