This document discusses the importance of emotional intelligence for educators in managing demanding emotional situations that arise from working with students, parents, and others. It emphasizes managing difficult emotions through techniques like STAMP and positive thinking, being willing to experience emotions to learn from them, and cultivating positive emotions. Specific strategies are provided like mindfulness, meditation, journaling, and prioritizing tasks. The key is letting go of thinking one needs to do everything and focusing on purpose instead. Productivity tips include clustering tasks, turning off notifications, and creating a priority to-do list. An action step is committing to try one technique each week.

You must change your habits to change your life. Discover the one thing everyone must change to achieve the three things that most people want: (1) to be free of any financial concerns, (2) wake up every morning enthused about how they are going to spend the day and (3) enjoy daily relationships with people who are upbeat, enthusiastic and creatively productive.
Mindfulness practices can help us to increase our ability to regulate emotions, decrease stress, anxiety, and depression. It can also help us to focus our attention, as well as to observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment.
Many people working in academia find it difficult to achieve or maintain a good work-life balance. This talk goes into the reasons for this, the consequences of working too much, the benefits of having the right balance, and ways of achieving a better balance. The talk is very much based on my personal views and experiences, but I hope there is some interest in sharing these.

Edutopia Webinar: Social and Emotional Learning: Making a Case in an NCLB WorldEdutopia
Reading, writing, and arithmetic are important -- there's no doubt of that. But it takes more than those basic academic skills for students to grow into happy, successful adults.
As educators know well, children also need to learn self-esteem, self-discipline, and strong communication skills in order to succeed in school and life. But it's easy for those essential lessons to get lost in the race to raise standardized test scores.
In this session, two pioneering educators and a national education leader explain why social and emotional skills deserve time and attention -- SEL has been shown to raise test scores -- and how they provide it effectively in their schools.
Host: Grace Rubenstein, senior producer, Edutopia
Presenters: Tim Shriver, Chairman of the CASEL Board of Directors, Sheldon Berman, superintendent, Jefferson County Public Schools, Louisville, Kentucky, and Kati Delahanty, English teacher, Charlestown High School, Boston

Natural Language processing in the digital age & the impact on relationships ...Salema Veliu
This was part of a workshop presentation l did a couple of years back for Flight Centre UK looking at language in the workplace and the impact on performance and leadership. It's been interesting to see recent to see the views on 'SlideShare' of this work. 'Psycholinguistics' has always been a huge part of my Uni studies and my work. It's helped to understand 1. How we process and 2. What we can learn from the language we use and how that in turn can interfere with behaviours. Demonstrated by the modality of Related Frame Theory which is a powerful tool in decoding behaviours, and habits human habits from speech around machine/technology referred to as (Psychotechnology). Just to be absolutely clear I’m not talking about Neuro Linguistic programming. But Natural Language Processing which is a branch of AI that looks at the interaction between computers and humans using natural language. I believe there are cross functional connections that we can use to enhance the learning elements of machine learning

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

18. Other Tools to Manage Difficult Emotions:
• Meditation is when you intentionally set aside
time to do something that’s good for you.
There are all kinds of meditations.
• Mindfulness is both a general awareness of
the world as you go about your day and a
formal meditation practice. Meditation and
mindfulness overlap in mindfulness meditation,
which is one of the most popular types of
meditation.
24. 2.Willingness to experience our
feelings and learn what we need
It is crucial to help us notice how we are feeling, understand
the feeling and learn that we are not our feelings.
27. Willingness to Experience
Our Feelings
• Notice and name the feeling
• Allow yourself to see how this feeling could
actually serve you, or benefit you. What can I
learn from this feeling?
• Journal about how making this feeling wrong and
not having a healthy relationship with it actually
impacts your life. How does it impact your
choices and behaviors? What is the cost?
• What is an action step you can do this week to
embrace this feeling?
28. What to do when there is too much to do?
Part of the problem is an overarching belief system
which creates this thinking that we have to do it all.
I don’t have enough time.
There is too much to do.
I can’t get it all done.
I have to get it all done.
I have to do it all.
29. This creates a divide
Having it all done
Working hard
trying to get it
all done
----
Source of many of our frustrations
whether in the classroom or our life
30. Problem with having to do it all
What we do is never enough, feeds devastating
energy that we are not good enough that at
times every single one of us feels, we don’t like
to feel this so we:
• Work harder
• Medicate
• Do things to excess
• Do nothing
31. We simply can not do it all
Work
Parent
Relationship
Health
33. How to let go of having to do it all?
• Meditation
• Mindfulness of the need to do it all, allow it,
thank it and allow it to pass just like the weather
•Visualization process
• Prayer
• Stillness, Reflection
• Coaching (inner critic work, building self worth)
• Gratitude that what you have done is enough
• Priortising and scheduling what’s important
35. Keys to Productivity

Editor's Notes
Fixed: This is way things are, I can’t help how I feel, If you only knew what it is like, controlling others and what’s going to happen, the right way
Growth: There are many ways, I can control how I feel and how I respond and speak with others, let me learn what it is like for you, control self, there are many ways
Accept that we can’t control others, we can set up learning environments and encourage students, we can’t take responsibility for their choices, Let go of trying to control the universe and control our response and emotions. So how can we do this?
