Listening is an important communication skill that involves receiving, interpreting, and reacting to messages. There are different types of listening including discriminative, comprehensive, evaluative/critical, biased, and superficial/casual listening. Discriminative listening identifies differences in sound, comprehensive listening aims to understand the full meaning, and evaluative listening involves making judgements about what is said. Biased listening only hears what the listener wants to hear. Superficial listening pays no attention to the content. Effective listening is an art that acknowledges the importance of the speaker.

 Effective listening is a art of communication which is
often taken for granted and ignored.
 Listening is a process of receiving interpreting and
reacting to the message received form the
communication sender.

5. Discriminative Listening
 As the name it self suggests,
discrimination listening is
the most basic type of listening
where by the different between
the sound is identified.
 By being sensitive to change in
the speakers rate volume ,force
,pitch and emphasis the
informative listener can detect
even minute and minor
meaning of difference in
meaning

6. Comprehensive Listening.
 when the Listener
Comprehensive message in
order to understand full
meaning , it falls into
category of Comprehensive
or evaluative listening this
type of listening result in
to selection of the needed
information out of the
total information

7. Evaluative/critical Listening.
 Evaluative listening is
also called “critical
listening”
 Because we make
judgments about what
the others person is
saying..

8. Biased Listening.
 Biased listening happens
when the person hears
only what they want to
hear such blessed
listening is often very
evaluative in nature

9. Superficial/casual Listening.
 When the listener pays
no attention on the
content of the message
,it becomes superficial
listening. The
uninterested listener can
concentrate on the
theme of the conveyed
message
