HEARING :-
• It is a physical response
• Hearing is understanding of sound waves
• You must hear to listen, but you need not listen to hear
ATTENTION :-
Brain permits only a select few to come into focus- this
selective perception is known as attention

ust analyze the meaning of the words we have perceive

• It is important listening process because it means that
an individual has not only received and clarified a mes
sage but has also added it into the mind’s storage ba
nk.

EVALUATING - It is a stage in which active listeners participa
te; it is at these point that the active listener weighs evidence ,
sorts fact from opinion, and determines the presence.
RESPONDING - This stage requires that the receiver complet
e the process through verbal and/or nonverbal feedback; bec
ause the speaker has no other way to determine if a message
has been received, this stage becomes the only overt means b
y which the sender may determine the degree of success in tr
ansmitting the message.

Hearing:-
• Hearing & listening are completely different things
• It is the ability to perceive sound by detecting vibrations t
hrough an organ such as the ear
• Hearing is a physiological process in which vibrations are
detected by the ear and then converted into nerve impuls
es and sent to the brain

Active Listening:-
• Attentive listening with careful consideration and concentration b

• The ability to listen actively can improve personal relationships th
rough reducing conflicts, strengthening cooperation, and fosterin
g understanding
Passive Listening:-
• Passive listening is hearing what a person says without responding
to them in any way
• In passive listening, nothing of the speaker's words goes into the
mind of the listener
• In passive listening, listeners are physically present though mental
ly absent

Comprehensive Listening :-
• Comprehensive listening is the name we give to the situation w
here the listener’s primary concern is to understand the mess
age
• For example, we listen to lectures or instructions from teachers
and what we learn depends on how well we listen
Empathetic Listening:-
• Listening with care and regard to give advice, or to solve proble
m is empathetic listening
• Therapeutic listening is a special type of empathetic listening

Appreciative listening:-
• Appreciative listening is listening to something with a positive a
ttitude in order to appreciate it
• That which provides appreciative listening for one person may pr
ovide something else for another. For example, hard rock music i
s a source of appreciative listening for one person. But may not b

Critical Listening:-
• Listening to solve problems, to think of a solution, to suggest opt
ions etc. requires critical listening
• In this type , the listener listens with attention but not for his/he
r comprehension, but to evaluate or judge the speaker
