Antonio De Curtiss Influence On American Culture
Italian and American actors and directors indeed become ambassadors of their culture. They are
looked upon highly by fans and many others in their own industry as well. Sometimes it may take
years upon years to become noticed , other times it may take only a year or even less. An italian actor
and comedian that took little to no time in being noticed was Antonio De Curtis or more popularly
known as Totó.
Antonio De Curtis was born on February 15th, 1898 in the little town of Rione Sanitá in Naples, Italy.
He stayed in town until elementary school, then he was shipped off to a boarding school where he
didn t even receive his graduating diploma. Antonio prefered to hangout in the little alleys of his town
much more than going to school. But while at school, playfully boxing with a teacher, he broke his
nose and from then on he had an infamous crooked nose. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While watching a theatrical production Antonio was struck by many comedians, who he immediately
imitated with perfection. Later in 1913/14 he went on to performing comical shows himself but took
the stage name of Clerment.
When war broke out De Curtis was ready and prepared, but out of fear he faked a heart attack and was
sent back home but he paid a price. Back home he served as a policeman as an alternative to going to
war. This is a great example of the italian saying fai u stupibo pe nu ghi a uerra ; being stupid so you
don t need to go to war. So likewise to war he understood the struggle just being in the police station.
After the war, Antonio went back to the theater. He started a band with Eduardo and Peppino De
Filippo and Cesare Bixio. He wrote poems, composed songs and dedicated so much time in the show
business. Continuing on this road he accomplished a certain fame, and from here on he will grow to

The World Of The Vietnam War
The year is 1965: the skate board is the latest craze in kids toys; the miniskirt makes its appearance;
hypertext is introduced for linking on the Internet; Kellogg s Pop Tarts pastries are created; Sonny
Cher make their first TV appearance in American Bandstand ; rights activist Malcolm X is shot dead;
the Gemini 3 launched the first US 2 man space flight; and the first United States combat forces arrive
in Vietnam. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war actually started in 1955, pitting
Communist North Vietnam against anti Communist South Vietnam. The United States believed it had
to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the reason the U.S. supplied South
Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with military advisors from the start of the
war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send troops to war and it became the first war
Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making the US involvement in the Vietnam War a
shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is
unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if
truer reality of the war can be found only in textbooks. The Vietnam War was so much a part of
American life that it could not be ignored, and with war films losing their appeal after World War II, it
s hard to know if the Vietnam War would be actually portrayed on the big screen. The

The Consumption Of Fast Food
The number of kids affected by obesity has tripled since 1980, and this can be traced in large part to
lack of exercise and an unhealthy diet (Pedro et al.). Caloric intake has increased enough since the
1970 s which explains the rising trend in obesity, while caloric output has remained essentially
unchanged. Americans are eating more unhealthy food and intaking more calories, causing this
nationwide epidemic. The big fast food chains market their foods to Americans constantly. On
average, teens see three to five fast food ads per day (Muntel). Fast food is ingrained into the minds of
children and the craving for it stays with them even when they are adults. Americans should eliminate
the regular consumption of fast food because the fast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Extra fat in the body can lead to numerous amounts of diseases. Including heart disease, stroke, high
blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and asthma. This is a major issue, since obesity rates are much higher
among children, teens, and adults who consume fast food regularly. Obesity leaves adolescents with
problems for the rest of their lives, which is why Americans should eliminate the regular consumption
of fast food from their diet.
Nonetheless, it is a remarkably tough task to get Americans to eliminate fast food from their diet. The
expenditure of this unhealthy food is very common in young America. Fast food consumption has
greatly increased in the past forty years because of low prices compared to the rest of the market and
the fast paced American lifestyle. America has the fifth highest teen obesity percentage in the world,
with more than fifteen percent of teenagers being considered obese (Muntel). According to Dr. David
Ludwig, director of the obesity program at Children s Hospital Boston, teens who consume fast food
regularly intake 190 more calories per day than ones who did not. Adding up to eleven extra pounds
per year (qtd. in Holguin). This is a pressing issue, considering 1/3 of adolescents aged four to
nineteen eat fast food daily. Conceding that this high of a percentage of the adolescent population eats

Astronomy Of The Islamic World
Astronomy in Medieval Islam Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects,
space, and the universe as a whole. During the medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science
took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba, astronomy
blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. Innovations
in astronomy were vital in inspiring the other scientific discoveries, and were greatly encouraged by
the religious groups during the time. In the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, S. Nomanul
Haq and Massimo Campanini wrote that astronomy is the only natural science that escaped the
censure of the medieval Muslim opponents of secular sciences (ʿulūm al awāʿil) and found a home in
mosques, receiving the blessing of mainstream religious circles. 1 Because of this support and
encouragement, scientists of astronomy were set up to thrive and innovate. Discoveries during this
period made fundamental advancements on Greek and Mesopotamian astronomy and were crucial for
the later advances of Copernicus and Kepler that give the view on astronomy that is held today. The
support of astronomy that garnered during the medieval era had many influences. One influence was
religion. Marking time accurately is essential for many religions including Islam, Judaism, and
Christianity. The Koran requires the faithful to pray five times a day at five very precise times: at the

Are Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense?
The memory of an eyewitness has always been an endless dispute throughout the narration of its
existence. The word of an individual holds the most substance; it s the only real thing of value that
person hold, having a witness of a crime is a criminal s vilest nightmare. There is a phrase that may
have been heard in movies and reality, eyewitness do not live too long. This phrase has range amongst
people revealing the reputation of eye witnessing for the majority and jury. All evidence used to
convict a person has to go through a vigilant examination process especially the testimony of an
eyewitness. So much emphasis is put on a truthful and accurate testimony because there has been a
false testimony, which cause consequences and complications. Criminal justice systems should
demand their district to notice there is an occurrence of bad witness memory, because the brain will
juggle and play games with the hauler. Predominantly, the mix up happens because of the perception
particularities the individuals mind has mad up and the original information. Memory is simply the
development of perception, how the brain process what is seen and reproduces it later. Since there is a
chance that the reproduction of once memory will be wrong that makes it essential to the individual
does not damage the facts. This accentuates the stress on the knowledge of the eyewitness well being

Motivation Theories And Motivation Of Employee Motivation...
In organizations all across the world you will find management working diligently to enhance or
maintain productivity. There are many things that can affect productivity, some that are within our
control and some that are not. Employee motivation is something that can directly affect an
organizations production. It is no secret that un motivated employees equates to un productive
workers, but how can we combat this? In order to better understand this concept we will look at the
definition of employee motivation, some of the motivation theories and some motivation techniques
that could be useful in our organizations.
What is employee motivation?
Motivation is a word used quite often in many different scenarios, at work, home, the gym as well as
other places. In order to explore employee motivation, let us first define the term. According to
Spector (2012), motivation is generally defined as an internal state that induces a person to engage in
particular behaviors (p.194). This seems to be some sort of internal pressure that helps propel us
forward in whatever endeavor we might be undertaking at the time. As with any topic that has been
repetitively researched over the years, the word motivation has been defined in many different ways.
In 1981 Kleinginna and Kleinginna documented 140 different definitions of the word. For the purpose
of this research we will be focusing on work or employee motivation. A very good definition of this
concept was developed in 1981by a professor

Five Pillars Of Islam, The Most Important Article Of Faith
Five pillars of Islam, are spiritual practices that define what it means to be a member of the Muslim
community and believe in Islam. Shahadah, is the first pillar of Islam. This is a self profession of faith,
an inner testimony of faith. There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his true prophet. Shahadah is
considered the most important article of faith. The Qur an says that in those with true faith should tell
others, giving them information to make an intelligent choice in regards to faith and religion. At the
same time one must respect all prophets and all revealed religions. Salat, ritual prayer is the second
pillar of Islam. The call to prayer and an affirmation of Gods unity. There are five daily prayers
starting at sunrise, midday, afternoon, sunset, and after night falls. The time of each prayer changes
from day to day with the orientation of the sun in the heaven. These prayers are continuous reminders
for Muslims to submit to God, keeping them on a pure path, rejuvenating their faith, and giving thanks
to God for all of the blessings they enjoy. Prior to each prayer one must ritually purified and cleanse
one s self both spiritually and physically in preparation for prayer. There is strict gender segregation
during prayer. The Quiblah in each Muslim mosque faces in the direction of Mecca, which is the way
one prays, facing the Ka bah. Prayer starts with Allahu Akbar (Allah is great), standard resuscitation

Racism In Othello And The Tempest By William Shakespeare
Racism in Shakespeare or Absurdity?
Is there racism in Shakespeare s works or is this notion absurd? Shakespeare may not be racist, but
two of his plays do contain racism. One may argue that Shakespeare does not openly speak of racism
in his plays, but Shakespeare does write with the idea of racism in mind, because his characters do
make comments that can be considered racist. In Shakespeare s plays Othello and The Tempest, the
underlying idea of racism is present in these works, and his audiences can come to this conclusion,
because of the way the characters, Othello and Caliban, are unjustly treated due to their appearances.
In the play Othello, the idea of racism is first revealed in Act One, Scene One. Iago and Rodrigo are

Therefore, Brabanzio should not be so distraught about the marriage. This leads to the following
question: Why is Othello not good enough in Brabanzio s eyes, when he is supposedly viewed as a
friend? The answer is simple. The reason why Brabanzio has Othello as a guest in his home is because
of all the good deeds he has done for Venice. Othello is good enough to be friends with Brabanzio, but
Othello is not good enough to be a son in law, because of his outsider status and skin color. Later in
the play, Brabanzio s claim of the use of magic may be true, when Othello freaks out about
Desdemona losing the handkerchief, because Othello claims that it is supposed to keep her faithful to
him. Others may argue that the handkerchief is merely a keepsake from his past, but since he goes into
detail of the handkerchief s power and history, Brabanzio s argument about magic no longer seems
that farfetched; therefore, this scene helps prove Brabanzio s sanity. By proving Brabanzio s sanity,
audiences can now come to the conclusion that Brabanzio s outrage about the news of the wedding is
due to the fact that he is racist and does not approve of Othello, because of his dark skin color and
outside status. Overall, these are just some of the numerous examples of racism throughout the play
Othello.
Like the play Othello, The Tempest also, portrays numerous examples of the idea of

Essay about The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange
The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange
Alex, the fifteen year old narrator of Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork
Orange, lives in a society where violence reigns. This novel has a very direct
nature, and is often blunt to the point of offense, but this makes it more
powerful and helps to further its point. This point is that everyone is out for
themselves, whether they be the police, government or citizens of this society.
In this book, the police can be just as violent as Alex and his droogs,
or gang. In fact, by the end of the novel, his droogs have themselves become
the police. The police have no qualms about beating people almost to the point
of death as they do with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alex, during his
first beating, confesses and hands his droogs to the police, but the police do
nothing to capture them. The reason the people are so afraid ...then a bolt
drawn, then the door open an inch or so... (19 20) is that they have to be,
since no one else seems to care about their well being.
The government is not much better. These corrupted individuals are only
out for themselves. They are in power, like it, and want to stay there as long
as possible. To achieve this end they will both tell the people what they want
and then do it for them. One example of this deals with crime. The citizens of
this society are fed up with it so the government gets rid of it using brutal
corrupt cops. The way that had been cleaned up, there being no longer any
dirty, ballooning slovos... (132) Since the People are not seeing the crimes
of the police, they believe that the government is protecting them and so are
appeased. Another example of this deal more directly with Alex. The citizens
want everyone to be good and peaceful. The government to show this take away a
person s free will to be bad. Thus the citizenry believe the criminals have
been reformed when in truth they have only been forced to do good, as they did
with Alex. Then when the people realize they prefer free will, the government
gives this back to Alex. The government is at the top and they

The Interlopers Epilogue Analysis
The Interlopers: Epilogue Who are they? Asked Georg quickly, straining his eyes to see what the other
gladly would not have seen. Wolves. The two men lay in the snow, listening to the branches creak in
the forest. Silence. A crow cawed in the distance, interrupting the calm only for a second. As the two
men s fate approached, they began to perceive things that they had never experienced before. All the
crackling, shuffling, and whistling became crystal clear to them, and they wondered how they had
never heard these sounds before. Little shimmers and sparkles caught their eyes as if to tell them to
enjoy their last moments in this world. Frost glittered in the slivery moonlight, cascading upon them

Analysis Of The Play Oedipus Tyrannous By Sophocles

August 19, 2016
Dear Dr. Kwa,
I chose to write about the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles, I found this play to be very
encapsulating to the very end. I really enjoyed the suspense, as well as the turn of direction that the
play took in the end as the plot thickened. In this essay, I will describe why I personally believe that
this play was not just a tragic event and the many reasons why I believe that Oedipus can be viewed as
a tragic hero by his actions throughout the play. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will
show that I have written a well developed and explanatory essay that will prove to be true of my
analysis of Oedipus s heroism in his words to support my opinions. I know that some of the verses that
I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on
those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also
view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of
words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large
sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count.

Oedipus as a tragic hero is because a tragic hero is determined to be a character in a play with power

Persuasive Essay On Safe Spaces
In a recent poll a whopping 36 percent of students felt that safe spaces were necessary on college
campuses according to LendEDU, a student loan organization. Safes spaces provide an outlet for
many who may take offense to material that negatively impacts a student s emotions. Some students
who have had traumas in their life take security in safe spaces due to the guarantee of not being in
harm s way of the lessons they may find offensive. In a world that is not censored from sensitive
material in every location it is apprehensive to put trust into a specific location for security. Although
many would agree safe spaces provide an outlet of security for those who have experienced traumas in
their life, an alternative compromise should be in place to allow students to explore the world from
different perspectives, learn to handle the tribulation of opposition, and to prepare students to
overcome adversity outside of the classroom. Safe spaces on college campuses are defined as a place
or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be
exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm therefor, it
is wise to find comfort in the ideological sense of security a student would likely find in a safe space.
One of the most captivating reasons students believe in safe spaces is because they allow an outlet for
many who may have had traumas in their life. Many find it appealing that they have a

of seven than that would be considered as it being more acidic and having less oxygen in its fluid but
if it is higher than seven on the pH reading it will be considered as being oxygen rich and contains

10 15 seconds for the drinks to be in my system completely, and then I will take a single pH testing
strip that I will get at my local pharmacy and place a sample of my saliva into a spoon and dip the
testing strip into it. The strip should immediately change colors or stay the same depending on the pH
balance. I will then retrieve the color indicator from the testing strip box to see what my current pH is
and record my discoveries. If the color meter indicates that my saliva is over the neutral mark of 7.0 I
am opt to indulged less in the consumption of alcoholic beverages, caffeine, coffee (decaffeinated and
caffeinated), and soft drinks. This doesn t mean cut them completely out of my diet but reduce them

consumption of clean, filtered water and milk, preferably goat s milk. Also I can then determine if my
own saliva is acidic, neutral or alkaline (base). In advance to doing the actual pH test of consuming
the drinks I intend on doing a before test so I can compare the differences in results if I there is any.

Ethics and Professional Responsibility
Like most business professions, there has to be a strong sense of ethics and responsibility. Especially
professions like law or public accounting. They must have strong standards of integrity. In public

There was a conflict of interest between the FOF and KRC. Should they have told FOF about the
heavy overcharges of the properties being sold from KRF to FOF for the interest of FOF, or kept silent

unfavorable situation. From the very beginning when Andersen found out about FOF and KRC

opposing sides can cause serious problems for the firm. The auditing firm will be the first one to be

Both cases of Enron and the Fund of Funds addresses a serious issue with independence. In the AICPA

all matters regarding the audit. Because Andersen had conducted so much non auditing services that
impaired independence, the Government Accountability Office imposed more restrictive standards on
auditor independence. Public accounting firms cannot allow personnel that does the auditing to also

The River and A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery O Connor
God s grace is offered to everyone no matter what his or her religion, or lack thereof. The real obstacle
is whether or not the offered grace is realized and accepted. In The River by Flannery O Connor an
innocent child, Harry, is offered grace. He is clueless to what is going on, but he knows he is not
content in the life he lives now. In addition, in A Good Man Is Hard to Find O Connor challenges the
socially unworthy characters, The Misfit and the Grandmother, to find and accept grace. God grants
all of his children the opportunity to obtain grace whether they are innocent or apparently socially
unworthy. The innocent Harry and the socially unworthy Grandmother both receive grace through
violence: however, the socially unworthy Misfit is offered grace but refuses it. God has a plan for all
of his children which involves grace. Grace is forgiveness and the only real grace comes from God.
He reveals it when he is ready and in different ways. Harry (Bevel) Ashfield in The River is a child
that lacks attention from his immoral parents and is treated as an after thought at best. He is at the
mercy of his rotten parents who treat him as nothing more than an inconvenience (Sparrow 1). In his
home everything is a joke and he is raised as if nothing matters (Sparrow 1). Although Harry is not
materially deprived, he is spiritually malnourished. He lacks the appreciation and admiration that is
needed for spiritual and moral growth from his parents (Sparrow 2).

Bernie Sanders believes that the problems that the American healthcare system faces need to be

Sanders believes that the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was a small victory for the uninsured in

output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). Intensity, volume and frequency are all
factors determined by the players needs for the exact implementation to increase performance.

The first phase is the eccentric phase. In this phase the energy is stored during pre loading. Between
the eccentric and concentric stage is the transition phase, called amortization. This phase should be
short in order for the energy to not dissipate. The last stage is the takeoff. In the concentric phase the
stored potential energy is transferred into the movement. The muscle is loaded with a lengthening
motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the series is called
the stretch shortening cycle.
The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle. Therefore,
the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection.
Basketball
Basketball requires individuals to change speed, direction and movement. Jumping is also an essential
piece of the game. Therefore, both quickness and power are essential for optimal performance.
Plyometric training can be used as a pre season or in season method of training. Branch (2013),

How Do Urban Planners Use Zoning
Urban planners use zoning to designate the land use in the city. Examples of zoning districts include
residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed use. Within these districts, there are certain uses,
permitted use, in which the land is intended; in addition, there are exceptions to these uses. Zoning can
be disadvantageous due to the discriminatory practices based off of race and class; however, zoning is
a very important tool because it provides a guide for future development and support public interest.

Non Otc Herbal Supplements At The Same Time
Personal Statement Draft
As I walked out of the door, there was a big sigh relief on my face as the pharmacist reassured me that
don t worry about it. I do not see any drug and drug interaction between the medications you are
currently taking. Let me know if you are experiencing any side effects, if not you re will be alright!
Until that moment, I have never realized the important role of pharmacists in the health care field. The
reason I went in to talk to the pharmacist was not to pick up my prescription, but I was there to ask
about drug and drug interaction since I was taking multiple antibiotics, immunosuppressant drugs, and
few other OTC herbal supplements at the same time. Several months before my consultation with a
CVS pharmacist, a small patch of skin near my eyebrow turned white and I was diagnosed with
Vitiligo. Although the mechanism of action for vitiligo is unknown, after researching online rigorously
for answers, I discovered that one of the possible causes is a chemical known as Rhodoenol, an active
ingredient in a Japanese whitening creaming, Kanebo. Due to its phenol group, Rhodoenol can
undergo competitive inhibition with tyrosine to form tyrosinase, which is a crucial step for the body to
produce melanin. After doing research online, I suspect the trigger of my Vitiligo is the few Japanese
whitening creams to help with the acne scars. My eagerness to find answers, determination to watch
my diets, the will to exercise more to help my immune system,

Juan De La Cierva s VTOLAircraft (Gyroplane)
All good comes from above, as it was said in 1:17 of the Book of James. In this era in the history of
Man, recent innovations in avionic technology has allowed men to fly to distant lands, at rates far
greater than what was once feasible centuries ago. Granted, it is true that attempts were made during
the early 20th century on the creation of VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) aircraft by Juan de La
Cierva of Spain, with a successful recorded flight in 1923. De La Cierva s VTOL aircraft was known
as Gyroplane. (Scientists and Friends) However, it was not until the Second World War, did VTOL
aircraft finally appear into its modern day incarnation. The Third German Reich was credited with the

There was nothing left but to try the exorcist. (Catholic News Agency) The preceding article in
question goes off on a digression, subsequently discussing about a similar effort, but across the entire
country of Mexico, with the center of mass being the Cathedral within the Roman Catholic
Archdiocese of Guadalajara, presided over by His Eminence, Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez. But
still, the overall point of the article is this: Every bishop is the chief exorcist of his own diocese.
Anytime anyone with the authority uses his power against Satan, (sic) that is powerful. Every priest
and bishop has that power. To be fair, an exorcism from the skies above is a much more important
endeavor than a similar event that happened a few weeks ago in Ireland. Nevertheless, it ties in to the
overall point of this blogpost. A few weeks ago, The Irish Catholic reported a certain Catholic priest
by the name of Father John Cummins, an administrator at the Cathedral of the Assumption in the Irish
Catholic Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin, who was joined by three others parishioners, they devised
an fundraiser that involved sky driving out of a plane stationed at Clonbullogue Airfield. After
garnering the necessary sponsorships from the rest of the congregation and others, the four were able
to collect at least an estimated €5,000. (The Irish

Analysis Of The Poem The Selkie Cave
The Selkie swam into his undersea cave that contained his human clothing. Last evening he d had a
vision he would find his life mate in the area above the sea caves. He needed to find her as his vision
was too strong to disregard. She was a well built sturdy young Scot lass with sparkling green eyes and
long dark auburn hair which flowed to her waist. He had seen her in his dream, dancing at the local
Highland Gathering. The young woman in his dreams was Mackenzie Sutherland s destiny. He strode
into the clan gathering, he noticed her dancing a Highland Fling with her kilt and hair whipping
around her tight young body. Her smile flashed as she moved to the intricate steps of her dance. Her
cheeks flushed and her eyes blazed with a heat which drew him like a moth to a flame. Around and
around she swirled and kicked to the music of the bagpipes. As she spun around, he could see her
beautiful long legs and the sweet curve of her rounded bottom. Her waist, he realized he could circle
with his hands. Her bust was full and appeared to be a plump handful. Her complexion was pale as
peaches he d read about in books from her world. While he enjoyed her dance, passion heated his
blood, and Mackenzie recognized she was the young woman from his dream. Skye loved the dancing
and the way she felt as the men s eyes remained on her. In her young girl s mind, she understood the
power she held over them. She viewed the young dark haired stranger who watched her with a

Formal Medical Education In The 1800s
Formal medical education has come a long way. During the colonial period, the main method of
medical instruction was the apprenticeship approach. The length of apprenticeship was approximately
of three years; at the end of that period a certificate was earned (Weiss Lonnquist, 2009). There were
three formal medical schools founded in the 1800 (The University of Pennsylvania, Harvard, and King
s College) that eventually were joined by a significant number of proprietary or for profit medical
schools, which come to be the leading vehicle of medical education in the mid nineteenth century
(Weiss Lonnquist, 2009). Currently, there are medical schools in every state and depending on the
specialty; the average time to complete medical degrees

Roman Military Tactics Essay
Roman Military Life Tactics By: Nathanael Delivuk The Roman army was very skilled in sieges,
fighting styles/fighting formations and marching orders. Some of these tactics are still used widely
today by the US army. But what made all of these tactics so useful to a modern army,? Kkeep reading
to find out. In ancient warfare open battles were commonly used but sometimes the defender took a
stand in a well fortified city. Whenever an army decided to siege their enemies it took a lot of money,
time, and men, so it was the least used option to attack an enemy. The Romans through time copied
and improved the artillery weapons used by the Greeks, but they didn t use them in open combat. ,
Iinstead they were reserved for siege warfare in order to pound the fortifications of cities and strike
terror into the defenders. Instead of using horsehair for their siege engines they used animal sinews( a
piece of tissue that holds the bones together) which were stronger and could throw rocks farther and
with more power. The Romans were a little slow to employ the towers that the Hellenistic kingdoms
had perfected. They made changes, making their own towers smaller and more manoeuvrable. The
towers also became more useful carrying weapons in them. The Romans added battering rams, a
boarding bridge, and fighting platforms which could carry both men and artillery. Towers had wheels
so that they could be constructed at a safe distance from the city and then moved closer

Independence Movement of Brazil and Mexico.
If revolutionary movement is defined as a social movement dedicated to changing the power or the
organizational structures by an independence movement, and if most is defined as greatest, successful
as a desired outcome and original rationale and/or purpose is defined as an fundamental intentional
reason, then between the countries of Brazil and Mexico, Brazil had the most successful revolutionary
movement in terms of its original rationale and/or purpose because Brazil, unlike the Mexican
independence movement, had a greater universal agreement about independence between every social
class, Brazil was politically stable after independence and it was economically stable after
independence.

The war of independence was not a lopsided contest with a foregone conclusion; it was, rather, a
struggle in which the nation was divided into loyalties and in which the final outcome was not
inevitable; it was a revolutionary civil war (Bethell 70). In Brazil independence was in universal
agreement between all social classes, since Brazil was only split into two classes, due to their unique
system that allows a slave to earn his freedom and make a living. Because of its system of clientele
and patronage, the racial and social tension present in Mexico was less severe in Brazil, which is why
Mexico had a dissenting agreement on the matter of independence. The support for independence was
in concordance from both sides of these social classes of Brazil. Acting with the support of the
Brazilian aristocracy, who were anxious to preserve their considerable landholdings from which they
exported sugar, coffee, and cotton, and with the backing of the British, who were eager to monopolize
the trade with Brazil, the monarch moved to secure Brazil s autonomy (Meade 74). The slave
populations as well as the Brazilian aristocracy were in full support of independence, creating a
national bond on the subject. Lower class blacks and mulattoes saw independence as a step towards
eliminating the racial discrimination that prohibited their appointment to administrative positions
(Viotti da Costa 8). Since the idea of independence was not fully

Essay about The Mosaic of American Culture, It s No...
The Mosaic of American Culture, It s No Melting Pot
Culture is a behavior that consists of several critical elements, such as language, religion, race and
ethnicity, clothing and politics. Culture is what one does in his/her daily life. In order to understand
others, we must first keep in mind that every culture carries its own set of values and assumptions.
Culture is an evolving, ever changing civilization, which includes several different groups people. For
immigrants, America is a land of opportunity; for others it is just the best country in the world because
of its economic success and/or its democratic political system. Americans usually value independence
a lot, believe in equal opportunity, and have a direct communication ... Show more content on

The mosaic depicts a society in which various communities maintain their religious, culinary, and
cultural particularities, proud and knowledgeable about their specific traditions while recognizing that
they are integral parts of a more encompassing whole. The communities are, and see themselves as
constitutive elements of a community of communities, the society. Moreover, they have a firm
commitment to the shared framework. We came on different boats, but we now ride in the same ship,
to draw on a popular saying.
From the term Mosaic we get a picture that America has a structure of different cultures. ?The mosaic
implies a contiguity of fixed, self sufficient, utterly distinct cultures. Multiculturalism, as it has been
practiced in the United States in the past 10 years, implies the existence of a central culture, ringed by
peripheral cultures. The fallout of official multiculturalism is the establishment of one culture as the
norm and the rest as aberrations.? So I agree that the American civilization is composed of diverse
cultures.
Chicago serves as the best example for diversity. If we walk down on Devon Street, the area, which is
located between western and California serves many communities. You could see Indian, Russian,
Pakistani and Jewish shops, all side by side. When looked in closely shop by shop we see different

Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced
This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football
Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through
relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season
ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it
can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received
before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree.
According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated
to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and
mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to
treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there
are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of
Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a
letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC
terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850.
Nevertheless, it holds that Liam does not owe £175 to HFC. It stands to reason

The Interior Of The Schroder House
The Schröder House
When looking at the interior of The Schröder House I thought it was best to begin by analysing the
history behind it. The Schroder House was designed by the architect Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. It was
commissioned by Ms Truus Schröder Schräder, and built in 1924 in Utrecht. The Designer Gerrit
Thomas Rietveld lived in Utrecht, the Netherlands and was qualified as a cabinet maker. In 1917
Rietveld set up his own furniture store, this gave him the opportunity to create furniture to his very
own design. He was part of an early 1920 s movement called De Stijl (Dutch for Style.) From 1930
Rietveld worked on his own as an independent Architect. He remained part of the De Stijl movement
until 1931. There he worked alongside Piet Mondriaan and Theo van Doesberg and many others. The
De Stijl movement was formed by a group of architects and artists who were greatly influenced by the
ideals of DaDa. De Stijl was founded by Theo van Doesburg. The term Neo Plasticism, meaning a
new plastic art was adopted by Mondrian to describe the types of work the movement members
created. De Stijl was based around the principals of fundamental geometry. On commissioning the
building of the The Schröder House Mrs. Schroder had three particular criteria; she wished her
children s bedrooms should be able to fit their bed in two different positions, all should have a door to
access the outdoors directly and each room should have access to the

Philospher Mill s Greatest Happiness Principle
Philospher Mill, believes that the moral law or golden rule is utilitarianism. He uses the greatest
happiness principle, and states that everyone wants to and ought to be happy. So, what is each person s
pleasure? If one has things that bring them pleasure, then there must be things that also bring them
pain. Both elements must be considered when making a decision, otherwise those involved will not be
able to achieve the greatest happiness. Furthermore, there will be consequences of these pleasures and
pains. The consequences will affect more than just me or them, they will affect all interests
surrounding the situation. But, who are the interests and should they all be weighed upon the same?
Do interests, have interests apart from my own? According to Mill, all interests must be treated the
same and in order to do so we have to look at situations from an outside perspective. In doing this, it
allows for us to provide the greatest good for the greatest number of people, again satisfying the
greatest happiness principle. For example, let us use the train tracks. On one side, there are 20 random

shouldn t say foods high in fat and also have sodium nitrates as a reason to avoid sodium nitrate. Since
only 7% of the sodium nitrites we consume come from added sodium nitrate sources our consumption
from non natural source are very small. The processed meat eaten today contains about 80% less
nitrites than it did a few decades ago .(Gunnars) Meaning the food is a lot heathier then most people
think today, Some processed meats like bacon due to the cooking process of high heat cooking the

Changing Health Care Policy Changes
Running head: CHANGES IN HEALTH POLICY Changes in Health Policy Terri Obey Kaplan
University Unit 6 August 12, 2015 Abstract When contemplating health care policy changes, several
economic issues in health care must be considered. These include the financial issues affecting the
health sector and have an impact on health policies. Policy makers face unending challenges due to the
health sector revenues that are always rising. Another challenge is decreased funding and failure of the
health insurance services. Cost One of the issues is the increasing cost of healthcare which is
dominating the health policy in U.S. this is accompanied by an increase in spending on healthcare.
According to projections by the government, the spending on medical care will continue to rise. U.S
spends more money on health care than any other nation globally (Holtz, 2013). The increase in the
spending is as a result of improved tools for disease diagnosis, better surgical interventions among
others. This raises an issue for the policy makers on the maximum GDP percentage that a country has
to spend on healthcare, and whether the nation will afford the cost that is continually growing. In
contemplating any change in the health policy, policy makers should consider the cost of the
healthcare and the ability of the nation to support that high cost. Funding Decrease in funding is
another economic challenge in health care. The amount of finances coming from various sources not

  • 2. Antonio De Curtiss Influence On American Culture Italian and American actors and directors indeed become ambassadors of their culture. They are looked upon highly by fans and many others in their own industry as well. Sometimes it may take years upon years to become noticed , other times it may take only a year or even less. An italian actor and comedian that took little to no time in being noticed was Antonio De Curtis or more popularly known as Totó. Antonio De Curtis was born on February 15th, 1898 in the little town of Rione Sanitá in Naples, Italy. He stayed in town until elementary school, then he was shipped off to a boarding school where he didn t even receive his graduating diploma. Antonio prefered to hangout in the little alleys of his town much more than going to school. But while at school, playfully boxing with a teacher, he broke his nose and from then on he had an infamous crooked nose. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While watching a theatrical production Antonio was struck by many comedians, who he immediately imitated with perfection. Later in 1913/14 he went on to performing comical shows himself but took the stage name of Clerment. When war broke out De Curtis was ready and prepared, but out of fear he faked a heart attack and was sent back home but he paid a price. Back home he served as a policeman as an alternative to going to war. This is a great example of the italian saying fai u stupibo pe nu ghi a uerra ; being stupid so you don t need to go to war. So likewise to war he understood the struggle just being in the police station. After the war, Antonio went back to the theater. He started a band with Eduardo and Peppino De Filippo and Cesare Bixio. He wrote poems, composed songs and dedicated so much time in the show business. Continuing on this road he accomplished a certain fame, and from here on he will grow to become very very ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The World Of The Vietnam War The year is 1965: the skate board is the latest craze in kids toys; the miniskirt makes its appearance; hypertext is introduced for linking on the Internet; Kellogg s Pop Tarts pastries are created; Sonny Cher make their first TV appearance in American Bandstand ; rights activist Malcolm X is shot dead; the Gemini 3 launched the first US 2 man space flight; and the first United States combat forces arrive in Vietnam. This was not the start of the Vietnam War since the war actually started in 1955, pitting Communist North Vietnam against anti Communist South Vietnam. The United States believed it had to protect South Vietnam from Communist take over and is the reason the U.S. supplied South Vietnam with millions of dollars in military aid as well as with military advisors from the start of the war. Eventually, the US had no other choice but to send troops to war and it became the first war Americans opposed publicly and passionately, making the US involvement in the Vietnam War a shameful venture rather than a noble cause. Although the Vietnam War was the first televised war, it is unclear if Vietnam War films are able to give an honest portrayal of the Vietnam War experience, or if truer reality of the war can be found only in textbooks. The Vietnam War was so much a part of American life that it could not be ignored, and with war films losing their appeal after World War II, it s hard to know if the Vietnam War would be actually portrayed on the big screen. Caloric intake has increased enough since the 1970 s which explains the rising trend in obesity, while caloric output has remained essentially unchanged. Americans are eating more unhealthy food and intaking more calories, causing this nationwide epidemic. The big fast food chains market their foods to Americans constantly. On average, teens see three to five fast food ads per day (Muntel). Fast food is ingrained into the minds of children and the craving for it stays with them even when they are adults. Americans should eliminate the regular consumption of fast food because the fast ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Extra fat in the body can lead to numerous amounts of diseases. Including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, and asthma. This is a major issue, since obesity rates are much higher among children, teens, and adults who consume fast food regularly. Obesity leaves adolescents with problems for the rest of their lives, which is why Americans should eliminate the regular consumption of fast food from their diet. Nonetheless, it is a remarkably tough task to get Americans to eliminate fast food from their diet. The expenditure of this unhealthy food is very common in young America. Fast food consumption has greatly increased in the past forty years because of low prices compared to the rest of the market and the fast paced American lifestyle. America has the fifth highest teen obesity percentage in the world, with more than fifteen percent of teenagers being considered obese (Muntel). According to Dr. David Ludwig, director of the obesity program at Children s Hospital Boston, teens who consume fast food regularly intake 190 more calories per day than ones who did not. Adding up to eleven extra pounds per year (qtd. in Holguin). This is a pressing issue, considering 1/3 of adolescents aged four to nineteen eat fast food daily. • 5. Astronomy Of The Islamic World Astronomy in Medieval Islam Astronomy is the branch of science that deals with celestial objects, space, and the universe as a whole. During the medieval era, a golden age of innovations in science took part in the Islamic world. In particular cities in the Iberian Peninsula, like Cordoba, astronomy blossomed and thrived as an aftermath of the genius and creativity that took place there. Innovations in astronomy were vital in inspiring the other scientific discoveries, and were greatly encouraged by the religious groups during the time. In the Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, S. Nomanul Haq and Massimo Campanini wrote that astronomy is the only natural science that escaped the censure of the medieval Muslim opponents of secular sciences (ʿulūm al awāʿil) and found a home in mosques, receiving the blessing of mainstream religious circles. 1 Because of this support and encouragement, scientists of astronomy were set up to thrive and innovate. Discoveries during this period made fundamental advancements on Greek and Mesopotamian astronomy and were crucial for the later advances of Copernicus and Kepler that give the view on astronomy that is held today. The support of astronomy that garnered during the medieval era had many influences. One influence was religion. • 6. Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense Denisha Poplus Beth Duncan En 102 7 July 2015 Are Eyewitness Retention Consistent Evidence For An Offense? The memory of an eyewitness has always been an endless dispute throughout the narration of its existence. The word of an individual holds the most substance; it s the only real thing of value that person hold, having a witness of a crime is a criminal s vilest nightmare. There is a phrase that may have been heard in movies and reality, eyewitness do not live too long. This phrase has range amongst people revealing the reputation of eye witnessing for the majority and jury. All evidence used to convict a person has to go through a vigilant examination process especially the testimony of an eyewitness. So much emphasis is put on a truthful and accurate testimony because there has been a false testimony, which cause consequences and complications. Criminal justice systems should demand their district to notice there is an occurrence of bad witness memory, because the brain will juggle and play games with the hauler. Predominantly, the mix up happens because of the perception particularities the individuals mind has mad up and the original information. Memory is simply the development of perception, how the brain process what is seen and reproduces it later. Since there is a chance that the reproduction of once memory will be wrong that makes it essential to the individual does not damage the facts. There are many things that can affect productivity, some that are within our control and some that are not. Employee motivation is something that can directly affect an organizations production. It is no secret that un motivated employees equates to un productive workers, but how can we combat this? In order to better understand this concept we will look at the definition of employee motivation, some of the motivation theories and some motivation techniques that could be useful in our organizations. What is employee motivation? Motivation is a word used quite often in many different scenarios, at work, home, the gym as well as other places. In order to explore employee motivation, let us first define the term. According to Spector (2012), motivation is generally defined as an internal state that induces a person to engage in particular behaviors (p.194). This seems to be some sort of internal pressure that helps propel us forward in whatever endeavor we might be undertaking at the time. As with any topic that has been repetitively researched over the years, the word motivation has been defined in many different ways. In 1981 Kleinginna and Kleinginna documented 140 different definitions of the word. For the purpose of this research we will be focusing on work or employee motivation. • 8. Five Pillars Of Islam, The Most Important Article Of Faith Five pillars of Islam, are spiritual practices that define what it means to be a member of the Muslim community and believe in Islam. Shahadah, is the first pillar of Islam. This is a self profession of faith, an inner testimony of faith. There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his true prophet. Shahadah is considered the most important article of faith. The Qur an says that in those with true faith should tell others, giving them information to make an intelligent choice in regards to faith and religion. At the same time one must respect all prophets and all revealed religions. Salat, ritual prayer is the second pillar of Islam. The call to prayer and an affirmation of Gods unity. There are five daily prayers starting at sunrise, midday, afternoon, sunset, and after night falls. The time of each prayer changes from day to day with the orientation of the sun in the heaven. These prayers are continuous reminders for Muslims to submit to God, keeping them on a pure path, rejuvenating their faith, and giving thanks to God for all of the blessings they enjoy. Prior to each prayer one must ritually purified and cleanse one s self both spiritually and physically in preparation for prayer. There is strict gender segregation during prayer. • 9. Racism In Othello And The Tempest By William Shakespeare Racism in Shakespeare or Absurdity? Is there racism in Shakespeare s works or is this notion absurd? Shakespeare may not be racist, but two of his plays do contain racism. One may argue that Shakespeare does not openly speak of racism in his plays, but Shakespeare does write with the idea of racism in mind, because his characters do make comments that can be considered racist. In Shakespeare s plays Othello and The Tempest, the underlying idea of racism is present in these works, and his audiences can come to this conclusion, because of the way the characters, Othello and Caliban, are unjustly treated due to their appearances. In the play Othello, the idea of racism is first revealed in Act One, Scene One. Iago and Rodrigo are talking to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, Brabanzio should not be so distraught about the marriage. This leads to the following question: Why is Othello not good enough in Brabanzio s eyes, when he is supposedly viewed as a friend? The answer is simple. The reason why Brabanzio has Othello as a guest in his home is because of all the good deeds he has done for Venice. Othello is good enough to be friends with Brabanzio, but Othello is not good enough to be a son in law, because of his outsider status and skin color. Later in the play, Brabanzio s claim of the use of magic may be true, when Othello freaks out about Desdemona losing the handkerchief, because Othello claims that it is supposed to keep her faithful to him. Others may argue that the handkerchief is merely a keepsake from his past, but since he goes into detail of the handkerchief s power and history, Brabanzio s argument about magic no longer seems that farfetched; therefore, this scene helps prove Brabanzio s sanity. By proving Brabanzio s sanity, audiences can now come to the conclusion that Brabanzio s outrage about the news of the wedding is due to the fact that he is racist and does not approve of Othello, because of his dark skin color and outside status. Overall, these are just some of the numerous examples of racism throughout the play Othello. Like the play Othello, The Tempest also, portrays numerous examples of the idea of ... Essay about The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange The Truth Exposed in A Clockwork Orange Alex, the fifteen year old narrator of Anthony Burgess s novel, A Clockwork Orange, lives in a society where violence reigns. This novel has a very direct nature, and is often blunt to the point of offense, but this makes it more powerful and helps to further its point. This point is that everyone is out for themselves, whether they be the police, government or citizens of this society. In this book, the police can be just as violent as Alex and his droogs, or gang. In fact, by the end of the novel, his droogs have themselves become the police. The police have no qualms about beating people almost to the point of death as they do with ... The government is not much better. These corrupted individuals are only out for themselves. They are in power, like it, and want to stay there as long as possible. To achieve this end they will both tell the people what they want and then do it for them. One example of this deals with crime. The citizens want everyone to be good and peaceful. The government to show this take away a person s free will to be bad. • 14. Analysis Of The Play Oedipus Tyrannous By Sophocles Tamara McDowney Dr. Kwa LITR201 August 19, 2016 Dear Dr. Kwa, I chose to write about the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles, I found this play to be very encapsulating to the very end. I really enjoyed the suspense, as well as the turn of direction that the play took in the end as the plot thickened. In this essay, I will describe why I personally believe that this play was not just a tragic event and the many reasons why I believe that Oedipus can be viewed as a tragic hero by his actions throughout the play. I believe that some of my strengths in this essay will show that I have written a well developed and explanatory essay that will prove to be true of my analysis of Oedipus s heroism in his words to support my opinions. I know that some of the verses that I quoted form the play can be interpreted differently so I would definitely like to get your take on those quotes that I cited that you feel may have a deeper meaning or interpretation altogether. I also view this as my weakness because of the way that some of the verses are worded or the choice of words used, it was hard for me to understand as it sounded a bit off. I also know that I used a few large sections of quotes which I made up for in my in my word count. Tamara McDowney In the play Oedipus Tyrannous by Sophocles; I viewed Oedipus as a Tragic Hero. Safes spaces provide an outlet for many who may take offense to material that negatively impacts a student s emotions. Some students who have had traumas in their life take security in safe spaces due to the guarantee of not being in harm s way of the lessons they may find offensive. In a world that is not censored from sensitive material in every location it is apprehensive to put trust into a specific location for security. Although many would agree safe spaces provide an outlet of security for those who have experienced traumas in their life, an alternative compromise should be in place to allow students to explore the world from different perspectives, learn to handle the tribulation of opposition, and to prepare students to overcome adversity outside of the classroom. Safe spaces on college campuses are defined as a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm therefor, it is wise to find comfort in the ideological sense of security a student would likely find in a safe space. One of the most captivating reasons students believe in safe spaces is because they allow an outlet for many who may have had traumas in their life. Many find it appealing that they have a ... Instead of using horsehair for their siege engines they used animal sinews( a piece of tissue that holds the bones together) which were stronger and could throw rocks farther and with more power. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree. Both elements must be considered when making a decision, otherwise those involved will not be able to achieve the greatest happiness. Furthermore, there will be consequences of these pleasures and pains. The consequences will affect more than just me or them, they will affect all interests surrounding the situation. But, who are the interests and should they all be weighed upon the same? Do interests, have interests apart from my own?
