Camera Lucid Reflections Of Photography
What the Photograph reproduces to infinity has occurred only once: the Photograph mechanically
repeats what could never be repeated existentially, Roland Barthes stated in his book Camera Lucida:
Reflections of Photography. Photography is the key to capturing a moment in time that will not
reoccur again. You can try, but it will not be that exact moment you once saw before. A camera is a
very powerful tool. It allows the artist to use it to display and present their message they are trying to
get across to their audience and artistic view. A photograph will keep time frozen and allow us the
audience to re experience whenever we want to. The reason I mention stopping time is because in the
image named Carmen photographed by Richard Avedon he did just that. This photograph is of a
woman jumping over a puddle. Richard Avedon stopped time and created this fashion and street image
all in one, quite beautiful may I add. Many people can try to recreate this image but never will they get
the exact leap. From photographing identification cards for the merchant marines, making it all the
way into the fashion world, the iconic American photographer, Richard Avedon. He was best known
for his fashion photography as well as his large scale character revealing portraits. After he served two
years in the merchant marines he then studied photography under Alexey Brodovitch who was the art
director of Harper s Bazaar. Excelling tremendously, Richard Avedon created elegant black and white

Chickering s Theory Of The Seven Vectors Of Student...
Chickering s Theory of the seven vectors of student development emerged from research in the 1950 s
and 1960 s (Evans, Forney , Guido DiBrito, Patton, Renn, 2010). Since then Chickering and Reisser
have revised the vectors and research has been conducted to see how see the vectors apply to different
student populations (Evans et al., 2010). To test how relevant the vectors are to today s college
students, I interviewed three female college students, two freshman 18 year olds and a 22 year old
senior. Each interview was very different despite being asked the same questions. They revealed that
multiple vectors were still applicable to today s college students.
For example, the first student I interviewed was Anna, an 18 year old full time freshman who lives on
campus and is majoring in English Linguistics. She is very busy taking taking five classes, working
part time and socializing with friends she met at orientation over summer. While she is enjoying life
on campus, she is struggling with homesickness which puts her in the vector of learning to manage her
emotions. She recognizes that she is homesick, yet she is still learning to accept and express this
emotion in healthy ways (Evans et al., 2010). Such as, she regularly keeps in touch with family, yet
she also demonstrates a lack of acceptance of this emotion by trying to distract herself from it by
being overly busy with five classes, work, friends, and school events which may burn her out and/or
affect her

Health And Globalization s Impact On Food And People
Health and Globalization s Impact on Food and People
Globalization has profoundly affected the movement of people, food production and dietary habits.
Political instability throughout the world has negatively impacted public healthcare systems, already
strained by limited funding, increased urbanization, and the emergence of new and previously
eradicated diseases that are resistant to available treatments. This paper explores how increased global
travel and changes in food production, distribution and consumption are interconnected, effecting
health at a global level. The paper acknowledges that globalization has both positive and negative
impacts on global health; and argues that opportunities to improve global health are limited by the ...

A total of eleven conferences were held, leading to the Office of International d Hygiène publique
(OIHP) established in 1907 and ultimately to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO)
in 1948 (WHO, 2016).
Throughout this time the globalization of trade, the movement of people and the spread of infectious
disease has grown, exponentially since the end of WWII. Where ocean going ships once dominated,
air travel and cargo transportation has grown to have a profound impact on global health. The
International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that eight million people travel by air every
day, surpassing the three billion mark annually, and creating abundant opportunities for infected
travelers to spread disease and antimicrobial resistance, in route to and at their destinations. Added to
this, is the estimated fifty million tons of air cargo transported annually, playing host to vector borne
diseases that can now travel across the globe in a matter of hours (IATA, 2013; Knobler, Mahmoud,
Lemon, Pray, 2006).
As a carrier of disease, air transportation poses a serious threat to global health. Government
regulations and air transportation industry practices attempt to control or at least limit the
opportunities for spreading infectious disease by monitoring aircraft and performing routine
disinsection by applying insecticides inside cabins and cargo areas. Despite these

Acid-Base Neutralization Reaction
What is an Acid Base Neutralization Reaction? Acid base neutralization reactions are ubiquitous, yet
they play an immense role in various contexts of life. For instance, they help maintain homeostasis in
the biological systems and regulate the conditions of soil in agriculture. In general, neutralization
reactions required two reactants: an acid and a base, which combine to form water and a salt. A
neutralization reaction is a reaction between an acid and a base (Burdge 365). In this case, the acid is
often an Arrhenius acid a substance that ionizes in water to produce protons (H+), while the base is
often an Arrhenius base a substance that ionizes in water to produce hydroxide ions (OH ). A
neutralization reaction between an acid and a base typically occurs in an aqueous environment in
which all the reactants are dissolved in water. The products of a neutralization reaction are water,
which is formed from the protons (H+) of the acid and the hydroxide ions (OH ) of the base, and a
salt, which is an ionic compound made up of the cation from the base and the anion from an acid
(Burdge 365). A simple example of a neutralization reaction is the reaction between aqueous
hydrochloric acid (HCl) and aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Hydrochloric acid donates its
protons (H+), and sodium hydroxide donates its hydroxide ions (OH ) to form liquid water. Then, the
remaining chloride ions (Cl ) from hydrochloric acid combines with the sodium cations (Na+) to
produce the aqueous

The Hazardous Radioactive Nuclear Waste Stockpiles, Created
The hazardous radioactive nuclear waste stockpiles, created over several decades due to the expansion
of nuclear industry in the domains of power generation, science, industry, military and medical fields,
is an intensified global concern today. There are several categories of nuclear waste and the most
unfavorable are the intermediate level and the high level nuclear leftovers because of their
radioactivity (International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA) 2013, p.9). The majority of this highly
radioactive waste is produced in nuclear power generation as spent fuel in nuclear reactors. According
to International Atomic Energy Agency there are 30 countries, operate 449 nuclear reactors for power
generations and another 60 nuclear power plants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(IAEA 2013, p.).
As a solution to the above problems faced by the countries, the multinational nuclear waste repository
concept was emerged where one country (host country) will implement a deep geological repository
and the remaining countries (clients) can sell off their radioactive waste to the host country for the
deep geological bury. South Australian government appointed the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Royal
Commission on 15th March 2015, to evaluate the potentials available for South Australia in the
Nuclear Fuel cycle. In May 2016 the commission submitted their report indicating the viability and the
economic benefits, South Australia will gain by hosting an international geological disposal facility
for high level and intermediate level waste. The proposed scheme is an amalgamation of aboveground
temporary storage and an underground permanent repository. At year 11of the project, the customers
will deliver nuclear waste in Dry casks and the transferring of this waste to permanent repository will
start in year 28, until year 83 the wastes will be accepted to above ground temporary storage and the
closure of underground facility will be in year 120. (Nuclear Fuel

Vaccination Action Plan
Our plan of action that we will take forward to help in resolving this issue consists of multiple steps.
First of all, we plan on creating an informative website that will help raise awareness and educate the
public about the importance of getting immunized and the risks and consequences of not getting
vaccinated. Next we plan on trying some kind of partnership with UNICEF to fundraise money that
will go towards providing vaccines for population mainly of children and women who don t have
access to vaccinations and disease prevention possibilities. Next we plan to possibly make awareness
advertisements about the importance of immunization to raise attention to the issue and allow
individuals to start taking action to become active global citizens.

Name Of The Rose
The movie, The Name of the Rose is about apprentice Adso of Melk and his mentor, Franciscan friar
William of Baskerville. These two men traveled to a Benedictine abbey to discuss the poverty of
Christ. While at the abbey, there was a series of mysterious murders that continued to take place one
after another. The abbey requested that William and Adso help to solve the mystery of why these
murders were taking place. Through many trials and setbacks, William discovered that a secretive
book was being passed from person to person. He learned that when a person touched the book with
their hands, they later digested the poisonous ink. This poisonous ink that got on the victims hands
was the cause of all the murders. Therefore, the movie does not have an accurate plot, however the
historical background in the film is correct based on the sources.

Comparing Orwell s Arguments On Politics And The English...
The English language is not something that is complicated. It is just something that needs to be
practiced to perfection. Over a long period of time, it has slowly become something that is hard for
people to understand. It is just as difficult for people today as it would have been one hundred years
ago. Orwell makes this extremely clear in Politics and the English Language. Even though this was
written in 1946, there are many points and arguments that still have relevance today. One of his main
arguments is that the reason that this language has had an extreme downfall is because of politics and
economics. He argues that political language has become dull and somewhat useless. To clarify his
argument, he uses writings from two professors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay was written right around the corner away from World War Two, which was an event that I
am sure was full of politics and economics. Orwell states that in his time, political writing was largely
the defence of the defensible. He is saying that the wrong acts of politician writers can be defended,
but only by the type of arguments that meet the same standards of their own. He goes on to illustrate
his argument by using examples of dropping atom bombs on Japan and the continuance of British rule
in India. Around this time in history in America when people saw this in the newspaper, they probably
thought that it was all ok. Maybe this would be because nothing happened to their country. Or because
the articles in the paper were written by the type of bad writers that Orwell expose in his essay. The
articles were probably sugar coated with huge words to overlook the fact that people were struggling
and being killed. Which means that the vagueness and euphemisms in these political writings are
obvious. No one really wanted to straight up say that America killed at least 129,000 people when
bombing japan. You can still see that this same problem occurs here in 2015. They will say that 200
citizens were killed in countries overseas by the Americans instead of saying that most of them were
innocent people and possibly even children and babies that were murdered and we don t really care
who they were. It s all about the way that the authors write their articles and how they want their
audiences to feel. Just to make them think that bad things are acceptable. This is what I get from
Orwell s essay. Not only does he want these so called politicians and their followers to write better but
he also wants them to create a better society for people by not covering up these brutal

The Quiet American Movie Vs Book
Philip Noyce s version of Graham Greene s novel The Quiet American to film was a large success. It
stayed pretty close to the book, and kept the personalities of the character s the same. What I respected
about the movie was that the director chose to film in actual Vietnamese locations and without
compromise, boldly sticking to the novel by not letting the Americans come out of the story too
kindly. It was filmed greatly and he captured so many details of Vietnam. Brenden Fraiser and
Michael Caine did an amazing job portraying their characters. The first difference that you can see is
that the book was in first person and the movie was in third. This being said, there were scenes added

He has negative outlook on what seems like everything. I personally had a hard time reading the book
because of the negativity from Fowler. Pyle in the book was the opposite. I was more interested in
Pyle because of his softer nature. What I like about Pyle is how he would stick up and defend Phuong
when Fowler made rude comments. Fowler said that Phuong was merely a beautiful tool for his sexual
pleasures. Pyle responded That s a dirty crack. I won t have her insulted. You have no right... (TQA,
Graham Greene, 1955, pg 78) This shows Pyle s passion and soft nature. Michael Caine is excellent as
Fowler in the movie. He plays an aging unmotivated but skilled reporter very good. On the other hand
Fowler in the film is a lot more vulnerable, especially as the film goes on, and his weaknesses begins
to show. The movie never shows Fowler telling Pyle how he feels about Phuong. He says that he is
detached but then becomes very involved in what is going on around him. With that action I feel it
shows that he does care about Phuong but doesn t know how to handle it. Thomas Fowler is a
complex character, and it is hard to compare him to his character in the book. The movie doesn t show
his personality and depth of character as the book does. The movie portrays him more likeable with
more dignity and less bitter. Fowler s character does still give us that deep sense of how the political
he is. Although I was disappointed because I feel they took a huge part of the book and tossed it out by

How Did Lenin Contribute To The Failure Of The Provisional...
The Russian Revolution of 1917 was one of the most important events of the twentieth century.
Having to deal with his growing opposition and the embarrassing defeats Tsar Nicholas II faced in
World War I, the Tsar was left with no choice but to abdicate his throne and get replaced by the
Provisional Government. The Provisional Government however failed to disengage from WWI or
resolve the economic downfall that resulted from the collapse of the old order. Due to these failures
the Provisional Government also broke down and were unable to bring Russia back to the functioning
democracy it once was. Because of the lack of an operating government The Bolsheviks were able to

Past events in Lenin s life steered him towards the path of a revolutionary. After the execution of his
brother because of his involvement in anti tsarist activities, Lenin took an interest in political studies
and joined many discussion groups, quickly rising to the position of leader. Lenin was also very strong
willed and brilliant, making him a formidable leader. Unlike the Provisional Government which
lacked support and authority, he made sure there were internal conflicts between the Bolsheviks, in
turn creating a ruthless political party. Even though he had the leadership qualities that lead the
Bolsheviks to victory, it should be remembered Lenin only returned to Russia after the February
Revolution, therefore making the fall of the tsarist regime and the Provisional Government taking

The Political Competitive Environment
The impact of the political competitive environment The political competitive environment refers to
the external political situation of the economy or country that a business is operating in. The political
environment is shaped by government actions in terms of political parties and systems, legislation, law
enforcement, global economic factors, taxation, interest rates, exchange rates, among other factors
(Ciobanu Bahna, 2015). Businesses with operations in multiple countries and economies have to deal
with the political environment at different levels. Lehman has operations in the Americas, Europe and
Asia Pacific regions, hence it is subject to the political climate and environment in these regions and
countries in which it has operations. When it filed for bankruptcy, Lehman was subjected to the
political competitive environments in all the regions it had operations. However, each country or
jurisdiction has its own insolvency laws which have different impacts on the company. For instance,
while it filed for bankruptcy in New York, its foreign subsidiaries either filed for bankruptcy or
liquidation depending on the political environment in the countries they were operating in. In this
regard, every foreign subsidiary was exposed to different sets of bankruptcy laws and political
interests. As a consequence, depending on the political environment, every Lehman subsidiary office
was liquidated depending on the interests of different stakeholders and the different

Not only do the characters not take themselves seriously, they also don t take horror movies seriously.
A day after the first murders take place, Sidney Prescott receives a cryptic phone call. However, she is
not frightened because she believes the caller to be one of her own friends Randy, a movie lover,
calling to harass her. The mysterious caller asks her why she doesn t like horror films and she replies,
What s the point? They re all the same: some stupid killer stalking some big breasted girl who can t

an audience member, I realize that this skeptical and often accurate view of horror movies is a
message directly from the film s writer and director (Riptov 86).
Later in the film, when Sidney suggests that the killer might still be on the loose, her best friend Tatem

Sacrifice in Life of Pi, Pi by Yann Martel Essays
Happiness is a key to everybodys life. Even the most depressed man on earth has a little happiness
deep down inside. Its what keeps us striving to fulfil our needs and wants on an everyday basis. There

feeling of getting a promotion at your job, or even finding the cure for cancer. Being happy is not just
healthy, but it is also rewarding for each and every individual. We strive to find anything that will turn

for Pi other than to find some land, he is now happy after such a little event. Any one can find
happiness depending on what happy means to them. If doing a backflip into a pool makes you happy,
then you will end up risking anything to get that last backflip in before the summer ends. Happiness is

If you are ever bored, try doing something that makes you happy and I bet you the time will end up

motivation to reach these goals gave Pi many activities to do while living on the bare minimum. By
not wanting to feel like there is no hope for his survival, Pi strived to become happy because you will

could get. Wherever she collapsed from exhaustion would be where she began a new, simple life. It

and despite some glaring faults, they were good people she was grateful to have. Movement to
Cassandra s left caught her attention and she froze. She slowly turned to get a better glimpse of it, and

biggest impacted on American identity because it has introduced a new system structure nations,
cultures, and the Enlightenment s ideas to form the United States. Let s back to the early 1600s, after
the Columbus s voyage came to the New World, most all the European nations began to proceed

create the Empire on the American continent. But, the main point that European came to the New
World is spreading their religion, they tried to convert the native into Christianity. This caused more
tension between the native and the white people. According by William Bradford described in his
journey Of Plymouth Plantation , it said Men, Indians! Indians! And withal, their arrows came flying
amongst them...Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies and give them deliverance; and by His
special providence so to dispose that not any of them were either hurt or hit, though their arrows came

The Pros And Cons Of Violent Conflict
Wars, pogroms, genocides, inquisitions, crusades, and political actions have caused many to lose their
lives or kill others for centuries. Majority of them are over the clashes in beliefs of ideologies, politics,
philosophies, and religion (and usually a combination of several reasons). These belief systems, when
explained and read about, may inject a sense of being magical and the ability to bring peace to the
world to those who are innocent. But when they are confronted by faced with the clashing with
another belief system, they fail to prove how their belief system can bring peace to the world. I will be
focusing on religious beliefs, which are sets of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the
universe, especially when considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Indeed, though it is inevitable that with different religious beliefs in a single country there will be
some tensions between the different groups but it is not appropriate to say that whenever there are
different beliefs in a country, there will always be violent conflicts as tension between different
religious group need not lead violent conflicts. Should this have been the case that difference of
religious beliefs would result in violent conflict, then majority of the world would be inconflict. But
that is not the case. As seen with Singapore, it is possible for a country to live in perfect harmony
despite the different religions so long as the government knows how to manage it. Peace between the
races does depend heavily on the government as they are the ones governing the country, thus should
they observe any tension between any belief groups, they should take preventive measures to prevent
this tension from turning into a conflict. But it is important to keep in mind that our cooperation with
the government will also greatly affect the outcome. Therefore, I myself feel that rather than saying
that with different beliefs, there will be violent beliefs, it would be better to say that there would be
tension, but whether or not this tension develops into a violent conflict or not depends on how the
government and people come to terms with

Market Failure in Unemployment Benefits
Market Failure In Provision of Unemployment Benefit
Market failure occurs when resources aren t used efficiently. This can be seen in any market, whether
a publics good or a private good. Market failure can also be seen in the provision of unemployment
benefits and unemployment insurance, as the resources could be used inefficiently and misused in
different ways. For the purpose of this essay I will focus on how MORAL HAZZARD, prevents the
efficiency in unemployment benefits and insurance, I will discuss the main issues to do with moral
hazard in unemployment and also ways of combating it. I will do this by firstly defining market failure
and the main components on it before leading to the actual topic of moral hazard.
Market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moral hazard is greatly seen as an individual can influence their probability of entering or leaving
unemployment. Moral hazard creates a disincentive to work and reduces the supply of labour in a
country. Moral hazard is unobservable , this means the providers of insurance and benefit are totally
unaware of the unemployed intention while receiving the benefit. In unemployment insurance the two
parties are involved in contractual relationships, as their intentions contradict. The receiver of the
benefit is acting in a hazardous way and the insurer is fully on aware which makes the provision a
market failure.
The money being received for unemployment benefit is substantially high in Ireland. This means that
people are less willing to look for work as they have a good income already. Looking for work would
mean a loss of benefit or a reduce income due to tax which will reduce the incentive for a person to go
look for work. Due to Moral Hazzard the system of payment are structured with a view to ensuring
that the system of payments does not weaken the incentive of the unemployed to take on paid
employment. Income tax and social security contributions levied on earnings determine the employee
s net earnings, when unemployed a worker receives payments. If the gap between this is too much it
may affect the incentive to work. If the ratio is high then moral hazard increases as those who are
unemployed may cease to work.

Lieutenant-General Murat s Role In The Battle Of The Pyramids
While Joachim himself was known as a player Caroline had fallen head over heels for the young

John Locke s Person Identity
Identify is needed to determine existence. How to you determine the existence of an object according
to John Locke it must be compared in a state via a determine place and time, to itself at a separate
place and time (Locke 367L). An object cannot exist at the same time in two separate places. For
example, a 20 ounce bottle of coke at a gas station in Kentucky and another 20 ounce bottle of coke in
an airport in Denver do not share the same identity. This is because while they may share every single
trait, the fact that they exist in separate places at the same time makes them separate objects that do
not share the same identity. From this brief understanding of identity Locke creates his theory of
personal identity. Locke first makes the important distinction between non living objects and living
objects. The identity of a non living object, a bundle of atoms, changes, if one of these atoms is taken
away, or one new one added, it is no longer the same mass or the same body. (Locke 368R). In Locke
s theory the moment the atoms change even in the slightest bit with one atom being lost or added the
bundle of atoms are no longer the same bundle that existed before the addition/subtraction of atoms.
For example, if a stick of chalk made a line on a blackboard for every time one atom of chalk left stick
to form the line a completely new stick of chalk would exist. This concept of constant changing
identity with the slightest modification does not extend to living

source comes from a government run website which makes this a credible site. The third, and last,
source is an essay called Impact of Railroads in Mexico and India written by Nick Cannon as a part of

The value of this article is the fact that although it is comparing Mexico to India, there is a lot of

Summary Of The Mammoth Cometh
The article, The Mammoth Cometh, uses many appeals and techniques to relay the importance of de
extinction, especially in relation to Novak s passion, the passenger pigeon. Pathos are effectively used
to in giving us (the audience) a personal connection with Ben Novak as the author takes us on hikes as
a boy throughout the badlands near his home, exploring a vast petrified forest, in North Dakota.
Novak frequently came across vertebrae, phalanges and rib fragments of extinct crocodiles, and other
animals. With such a childhood it s no wonder that at 13, Novak pledged his life to the resurrection of
extinct animals. A few years later he fell in love at first sight with passenger pigeons and has since
dedicated his life to their cause. The burning passion he has for these extinct animals can t help but
inspire us. He is described as overcome by awe, sadness and the birds physical beauty, and has visited
339 preserved passenger pigeons. His solid determination in the revival and restoration of these birds
is also unbelievable, trying first to become a part of a lab already sequencing passenger pigeon DNA
and then, when he was not accepted, writing more than 30 times to an institute to receive a sample of a
bird s tissue to do it himself. Ultimately, he was able to partner with the other lab, but the owner
expressed that she was worried his zeal might interfere with his ability to do serious science.

Which Jurisdiction Should Govern The Agreement Between The...
The issues are what jurisdiction shall be used to govern the deal between the parties, issues with the
formation of the agreement, warranties, warranty damages, consequential damages, search costs, lost
profits, recession. The first issue is determining which jurisdiction should govern the agreement
between the parties Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code, the Common law, or the CISG? When
the subject matter of a transaction is for the sale of goods, Article 2 of the UCC is used to analyze the
deal between the parties. Article 2 of the UCC governs the formation, performance, and damages.
When the subject matter of the transaction is not for the sale of goods or is to provide a service, the
common law is used to analyze the deal between the parties. The Common law governs formation,
performance, and damages. When the transaction is for non consumer goods and between parties from
different nations, the Contracts for the International Sale of Goods is used to govern the transaction.
The CISG governs formation, performance, and damages. In this case, the party s agreement would be
considered a hybrid contact as the agreement includes a goods component, as well as a service
component. Since the agreement between the parties is a hybrid contract we can use the Predominate

Using the Predominate Purpose Test we can look at what the predominate purpose of the contract was

purchased for the 440A must meet special JIT requirements. Suppliers are requested to use bar coded
labels to identify their shipments for optical wanding into inventory, and the automatic equipment
requires specially designed packaging tubes and parts for taping for autoinsertion of PC components.
Furthermore, the delivery of most JIT parts must be weekly (instead of usual monthly delivery), in
order to maintain a minimum of inventory in the stockroom. Deliveries must be highly reliable to
prevent stockouts and line shutdowns. The parts that Carl is considering resourcing are four integrated
circuits (ICs), seven diodes, and three transistors. These parts are all low cost, industry standard parts,
with the exception of five of the diodes, which are manufactured by only one company, Monitor Inc.
Monitor is the industry leader in diodes and transistors and supplies Acacia with quality parts at
competitive prices for other plotters. While the 440A was still in the design phase, Carl and the
electrical engineers began preliminary

The Critique Of POTUS By Nanny Green
The critique for POTUS by Nanny Green is not fair because the president does not make all of the
decisions. The point of the constitution was to keep the power out of one person. The power is shared
across three branches, not just the president. We don t pay high taxes because the president wants us
to. We pay taxes so we can be provided services such as healthcare, schooling, parks, military,
transportation, etc. If anything, the congress is the one who collects the taxes, not the president. Also,
the president is not the one who declares war. That is also the congress. Lastly, the president is not the
one who writes and creates the bills. All he does is either approve or veto the bill before it becomes a
law. The bill has to go through a

The Debate On Abortion And Abortion
Abortion. This word leaves most people feeling uneasy after just saying it out loud. The discussion of
abortion is continuously left open ended with millions of opinions, arguments, and questions.
Abortions occur every single day leaving potential fathers devastated or thrilled, leaving friends and
families broken and distraught or in contrast, proud. More importantly, leaving the potential mother
uncertain and even destroyed. But with abortion in mind, what is considered wrong and what is
considered right? What is moral and what is immoral? Is all faith in humanity questioned at the sole
argument of either aborting or not aborting an unborn child? Moreover, who is granted the superior
authority on deciding what is morally correct or incorrect this day and age. As I said before,
bottomless questions and vast accusations tend to be the fuel for this fire. It is as if society is waiting
for the perfect, yet, moderate argument on abortion, tying up all of the loose ends and meeting
somewhere in between what is right and what is wrong when considering abortion rights. Is there even
a common ground of understanding when debating the existence of another human? The endless and
twisted argument continues to linger on, although Judith Jarvis Thomson s Defense of Abortion
communicated insightful views which in fact influenced my very own ideas on the argument of
abortion. As I was reading Thomson s, Defense on Abortion I found myself unsure and often
questioning the side she

Modern Conventional Psychiatry ( Kraepelin )
A psychotic condition, or a state of psychosis, is where an individual begins to lose touch with reality
by experiencing hallucinations and delusions, and believes them to be real when in fact they are not
(Freudenreich, Weiss, Goff, 2008; APA, 2013; Darton, 2013; NHS, 2014; MedlinePlus, 2015). Modern
conventional psychiatry (Kraepelin, 1987; Shorter, 1992, 1997; Alexander Selesnick, 1966) uses a
predominately biomedical approach to the diagnoses of mental health conditions, which is particularly
so for patients of psychotic conditions (Hunter MacAlpine, 1963; Mayer Gross, Slater, Roth, 1975;
Guze, 1989; Shorter, 1997). The most recently revised diagnostic criteria for the psychiatric diagnoses
can be found in the DSM V (APA, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for the drug treatment approach to continue, psychotic conditions must be approached using a
biomedical perspective.
But despite all the influential evidence for this biomedical approach, it is important to note that it is it
is not without its flaws (Read, Bentall, Fosse, 2009). For instance, there is no robust evidence for any
genetic cause (Read, 2004; Joseph, 2006; Sanders et.al, 2008; Hamilton, 2008; Bentall, 2009), with
the evidence for drug intervention argued to be just as questionable (Jones et.al, 2006; Newcomer
et.al, 2004; Guo et.al, 2006; Bobes et.al, 2007; Sikich et.al, 2008). Overall, the biomedical psychiatric
approach to the treatment of psychosis and madness is incomplete and problematic.
The movement of ant psychiatry (Cooper, 1967; Roth, 1973) and the debate of as to whether mental
illness is actually a myth (Szasz, 1972), presents even more concern over the status and usefulness of
psychiatric diagnosis. There is also a huge debate as to whether labelling a patient with a psychiatric
diagnosis for a psychotic condition, and therefore an illness, is not in the patients best interests and is
actually more for the benefit of the psychiatrist (Parsons, 1951, 1972; Foucault, 1973; Conrad, 1992;
Shilling, 2002; Padamsee, 2011). This is especially a concern as some views will argue that psychosis
and madness need not be regarded as an illness, like

The Impact Of The International Style In Art And Deco...
Chapter 1 Introduction
In 1890s, Art and Crafts movement started and its architecture worked in different kind of media
cooperate with the artist to bring in a greater unity to the arts. Most of the Arts and Crafts architectures
being build along together with the sculptures, tiled decoration and some with highly symbolic
imagery. As an example, the Standen located at East Grinstead, England showing the different kind of
bricks and tiles for the building s wall.
After the Arts and Crafts movement, Art Deco architecture style was started before the International
Style was found. Art deco architecture mostly using materials such as stucco, concrete and smooth

Summary Of Magic Johnson And Larry Bird
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has transformed over the many of years as an
organization and a brand, into a multibillion dollar business that draws thousands and thousands of
fans to each and every game. Many contributing factors have made the NBA what it is today, but the
main cause of this gain in interest is the ultimate rivalry between two remarkable players, Earvin
Magic Johnson and Larry the Legend Bird. The battling rivalry amongst these individuals is
comparable to the feud of Coca Cola and Pepsi, or, Star Wars and Star Trek. During the era of modern
television, and the still and ever present racial bigotry, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird helped redefine
the game of basketball and popularity of the NBA with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Yes, many could argue that former and following rivalries between individuals such as George Mikan
and Bob Cousy or Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett could be compared to the Magic Bird rivalry,
however timing for Magic and Bird couldn t been any more fitting.
During the 80 s, the period of which these individuals played, the NBA desperately needed a new
spark, and the NBA got just what it needed. Larry Bird s Celtics during the 1979 80 season made a
dramatic improvement from a 29 53 record the year before to 61 21 (Magic Johnson and). While Bird
is making an extraordinary turnaround for his Boston Celtics, Magic Johnson, during his rookie
season, won a NBA championship for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was the Los Angeles Lakers
seventh NBA championship victory. Their success helped the NBA, but their identities off the court
supersedes the game of basketball. The years previous to the Magic Bird rivalry were ever changing.
The NBA changed from a fundamental, half court game with all white players, to a quick pace,
athletically acrobatic game with mainly black players. Few old school former white people, such as
Jerry West and Pete Maravich, could participate and compete in this new form of basketball. This
different style of basketball significantly swayed many viewers, white fans, from attending the NBA
games. White fans felt that the game was very egocentric and didn t involve all the players. Also, the
white fans didn t

Gh Live Analysis
Other Notes The Nurses Ball 2015 GH Live!: 2 super fun, entertaining and enjoyable events back to
back! The Nurses Ball (5/1 5/5) is always a blast with its scandalous bombshells and amusing sung
performances from the cast. My favorite number this year was The Haunted Starlets doing Meghan
Trainor s Dear Future Husband (Castillo s voice is so beautiful) and, of course, Magic Milo The Magic
Wands, haha. It was wonderful seeing Britt visiting Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel), her mother and Brad
(Parry Shen) to chomp on ice cream and dissect the red carpet. Also, Alicia Leigh Willis reprising her
role as Courtney; really sweet moment with a sullen and injured Spencer. GH Live was a treat; aside
from a few minuscule errors, the cast handled it like the pros they are. I was hoping someone would
mess up, accidentally curse or laugh though; that s the beauty of live TV, right? The Periscope set feed
was so awesome! Who knew the stage was so tiny. It was funny seeing who s house was next to what.
I hope they do it again soon. I cracked up watching Parise hold his shot dead staring pose for so long
and hearing the word live repeated through the dialogue. Nina Ric: Ric has the dough for an elaborate
extortion plan, but needs to get in on penniless Madeline s (Donna Mills) scheme rip her daughter s

Isoamyl Acetate Synthesis
Preparing Isoamyl Acetate by the Fischer Esterification
Emily Whitsett
Lab Partner: Ariel Dryden
May 5th, 2015
Organic Chemistry Lab B
Experiment performed on April 30th, 2015
Abstract
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment was to prepare isoamyl acetate from isoamyl alcohol and glacial acetic
acid by Fischer esterification.
Introduction Esters are derivatives of carboxylic acids. Instead of having the COOH group, an ester
will include an alkoxy substituent which is a hydrocarbon group of some kind attached to the oxygen
molecule ( OR) (1, 2). Esters emit fruity smells and are widely used as flavor enhancers or fragrances.
Esters are typically the predominant compound in natural fruits and flowers that ... Show more content

Next, 0.809 g of isoamyl alcohol was added to the vial and weighed. The difference of these two
weights was recorded and considered the precise mass of the alcohol. A total of 2 mL of glacial acetic
acid was added to the vial. Three drops of concentrated H2SO4 and a boiling chip were added to the
vial. The vial was attached to a clamp and rested in a sand bath that ranged between 150 160°C. A
cold, damp kim wipe was placed around the tip of the vial to act as a condenser. The mixture was
refluxed for one hour. Once the hour passed, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and
the sand bath was turned off. After the boiling chip was removed from the vial, 1 mL of 5% sodium
hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3) was slowly added to the reaction mixture, capped and swirled. The
vial was shaken to mix the contents and the cap was removed to release the pressure. This was
repeated until the bubbles were no longer produced. A Pasteur pipet was used to remove the aqueous
layer which was disposed in a test tube labeled Aqueous Layer . The extraction of the upper organic
layer was repeated two more times with new 1 mL portions of 5% NaHCO3, placing the aqueous layer
in the labeled test tube each

Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto
In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and
practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are
the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for
veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White
veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time
of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out
and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less
likely than Whites to own houses.

Connotation In The Deaf Community
As history progresses certain terms that hearing people use for the Deaf community have been
changed due to the negative connotation associated with the definitions. Due to the negative impacts
that some terms have there is a need to avoid them to respect the individuals that are in the Deaf
community. The three terms that should be avoided are hearing impaired , Deaf mute , and Hearing
handicap The term hearing impaired has a negative view towards the Deaf community and should be
avoided. In the past this was an acceptable term to use because it was thought to be politically correct,
but in present time this is not the case. The term impaired focuses solely on what a Deaf individual is
unable to do and implies that the impairment of not being able to hear needs to be fixed. It also implies
that being anything but hearing is not acceptable and that Deaf individuals are at a societal
disadvantage. Deaf individuals do not believe that they are at a disadvantage nor do they believe that
their deafness is an impairment. Therefore, this term should not be used all together due to the
negative connotation on the Deaf community and Deaf individuals. Deaf Mute is an offensive term
that should be avoided labeling someone that is Deaf. The term Deaf Mute was used heavily in the
18th 19th century. The term Deaf Mute was originally not intended to be disrespectful, but the belief
was that deafness caused muteness. This label was associated with Deaf individuals because it

Public Services And Social Care
Personalisation is when the public services and social care in an entirely different way. They do this by
starting with the person rather than the service; it will require the transformation of adult Social Care.
There is going to be new legislation brought in 2013 for mental health issues based on autonomy, this
is respecting the individual Capacity to decide and act on his own and his rights and to subject to
restraint by others. Justice, this is to the law is equal; therefore if a person with learning disabilities or
mental health disorder should retain the same rights and entitlement as others. Benefits, this is a way
of acting in the individual best interest and finally least harm this is when treatment and care must be
provided in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although personalisation can have some disadvantages, so therefore there needs to be a balanced
between care and control when helping an individual to make decisions in their life, as the Service
User would like to make their own decision, however some decisions may have to be made by the
Service Provider perspective which might not be in the Service Users best interests. Although some
areas have robust statement that personal budgets must be used for the purchase of illegal items, such
as alcohol or gambling, therefore this may prove difficult to regulate and enforce. Furthermore the use
of direct payment may also leave the individual open to financial abuse from carers or family
members. Also advocacy agencies and other third sectors organisations may leave the skills to assist
vulnerable people who are receiving personal budgets. Another worry is that the individual budgets
will pose a potential financial burden (Adam et al 2009). Individualised budgets that are neglected will
need to be sensitively managed. Through personalisation permits nurses to think more resourcefully
about needs of patients and encourage them to embrace the opportunity it affords. This makes sure
that the individual is the centre of their care plan and are supported to make decisions promotes
dignity and self respect, enhancing

  • 2. Camera Lucid Reflections Of Photography What the Photograph reproduces to infinity has occurred only once: the Photograph mechanically repeats what could never be repeated existentially, Roland Barthes stated in his book Camera Lucida: Reflections of Photography. Photography is the key to capturing a moment in time that will not reoccur again. You can try, but it will not be that exact moment you once saw before. A camera is a very powerful tool. It allows the artist to use it to display and present their message they are trying to get across to their audience and artistic view. A photograph will keep time frozen and allow us the audience to re experience whenever we want to. The reason I mention stopping time is because in the image named Carmen photographed by Richard Avedon he did just that. This photograph is of a woman jumping over a puddle. Richard Avedon stopped time and created this fashion and street image all in one, quite beautiful may I add. Many people can try to recreate this image but never will they get the exact leap. From photographing identification cards for the merchant marines, making it all the way into the fashion world, the iconic American photographer, Richard Avedon. He was best known for his fashion photography as well as his large scale character revealing portraits. After he served two years in the merchant marines he then studied photography under Alexey Brodovitch who was the art director of Harper s Bazaar. Excelling tremendously, Richard Avedon created elegant black and white ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Chickering s Theory Of The Seven Vectors Of Student... Chickering s Theory of the seven vectors of student development emerged from research in the 1950 s and 1960 s (Evans, Forney , Guido DiBrito, Patton, Renn, 2010). Since then Chickering and Reisser have revised the vectors and research has been conducted to see how see the vectors apply to different student populations (Evans et al., 2010). To test how relevant the vectors are to today s college students, I interviewed three female college students, two freshman 18 year olds and a 22 year old senior. Each interview was very different despite being asked the same questions. They revealed that multiple vectors were still applicable to today s college students. For example, the first student I interviewed was Anna, an 18 year old full time freshman who lives on campus and is majoring in English Linguistics. She is very busy taking taking five classes, working part time and socializing with friends she met at orientation over summer. While she is enjoying life on campus, she is struggling with homesickness which puts her in the vector of learning to manage her emotions. She recognizes that she is homesick, yet she is still learning to accept and express this emotion in healthy ways (Evans et al., 2010). Such as, she regularly keeps in touch with family, yet she also demonstrates a lack of acceptance of this emotion by trying to distract herself from it by being overly busy with five classes, work, friends, and school events which may burn her out and/or affect her ... Health And Globalization s Impact On Food And People Health and Globalization s Impact on Food and People Globalization has profoundly affected the movement of people, food production and dietary habits. Political instability throughout the world has negatively impacted public healthcare systems, already strained by limited funding, increased urbanization, and the emergence of new and previously eradicated diseases that are resistant to available treatments. Throughout this time the globalization of trade, the movement of people and the spread of infectious disease has grown, exponentially since the end of WWII. Where ocean going ships once dominated, air travel and cargo transportation has grown to have a profound impact on global health. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimates that eight million people travel by air every day, surpassing the three billion mark annually, and creating abundant opportunities for infected travelers to spread disease and antimicrobial resistance, in route to and at their destinations. Added to this, is the estimated fifty million tons of air cargo transported annually, playing host to vector borne diseases that can now travel across the globe in a matter of hours (IATA, 2013; Knobler, Mahmoud, Lemon, Pray, 2006). As a carrier of disease, air transportation poses a serious threat to global health. Government regulations and air transportation industry practices attempt to control or at least limit the opportunities for spreading infectious disease by monitoring aircraft and performing routine disinsection by applying insecticides inside cabins and cargo areas. • 6. Acid-Base Neutralization Reaction What is an Acid Base Neutralization Reaction? Acid base neutralization reactions are ubiquitous, yet they play an immense role in various contexts of life. For instance, they help maintain homeostasis in the biological systems and regulate the conditions of soil in agriculture. In general, neutralization reactions required two reactants: an acid and a base, which combine to form water and a salt. A neutralization reaction is a reaction between an acid and a base (Burdge 365). In this case, the acid is often an Arrhenius acid a substance that ionizes in water to produce protons (H+), while the base is often an Arrhenius base a substance that ionizes in water to produce hydroxide ions (OH ). A neutralization reaction between an acid and a base typically occurs in an aqueous environment in which all the reactants are dissolved in water. The products of a neutralization reaction are water, which is formed from the protons (H+) of the acid and the hydroxide ions (OH ) of the base, and a salt, which is an ionic compound made up of the cation from the base and the anion from an acid (Burdge 365). A simple example of a neutralization reaction is the reaction between aqueous hydrochloric acid (HCl) and aqueous sodium hydroxide (NaOH). Hydrochloric acid donates its protons (H+), and sodium hydroxide donates its hydroxide ions (OH ) to form liquid water. Then, the remaining chloride ions (Cl ) from hydrochloric acid combines with the sodium cations (Na+) to produce the aqueous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Over a long period of time, it has slowly become something that is hard for people to understand. It is just as difficult for people today as it would have been one hundred years ago. Orwell makes this extremely clear in Politics and the English Language. Even though this was written in 1946, there are many points and arguments that still have relevance today. One of his main arguments is that the reason that this language has had an extreme downfall is because of politics and economics. He argues that political language has become dull and somewhat useless. To clarify his argument, he uses writings from two professors and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This essay was written right around the corner away from World War Two, which was an event that I am sure was full of politics and economics. Orwell states that in his time, political writing was largely the defence of the defensible. He is saying that the wrong acts of politician writers can be defended, but only by the type of arguments that meet the same standards of their own. He goes on to illustrate his argument by using examples of dropping atom bombs on Japan and the continuance of British rule in India. Around this time in history in America when people saw this in the newspaper, they probably thought that it was all ok. Maybe this would be because nothing happened to their country. Or because the articles in the paper were written by the type of bad writers that Orwell expose in his essay. The articles were probably sugar coated with huge words to overlook the fact that people were struggling and being killed. Which means that the vagueness and euphemisms in these political writings are obvious. No one really wanted to straight up say that America killed at least 129,000 people when bombing japan. You can still see that this same problem occurs here in 2015. They will say that 200 citizens were killed in countries overseas by the Americans instead of saying that most of them were innocent people and possibly even children and babies that were murdered and we don t really care who they were. It s all about the way that the authors write their articles and how they want their audiences to feel. Just to make them think that bad things are acceptable. This is what I get from Orwell s essay. The money being received for unemployment benefit is substantially high in Ireland. This means that people are less willing to look for work as they have a good income already. Looking for work would mean a loss of benefit or a reduce income due to tax which will reduce the incentive for a person to go look for work. Due to Moral Hazzard the system of payment are structured with a view to ensuring that the system of payments does not weaken the incentive of the unemployed to take on paid employment. Income tax and social security contributions levied on earnings determine the employee s net earnings, when unemployed a worker receives payments. If the gap between this is too much it may affect the incentive to work. If the ratio is high then moral hazard increases as those who are unemployed may cease to work. ... • 24. John Locke s Person Identity Identify is needed to determine existence. How to you determine the existence of an object according to John Locke it must be compared in a state via a determine place and time, to itself at a separate place and time (Locke 367L). An object cannot exist at the same time in two separate places. For example, a 20 ounce bottle of coke at a gas station in Kentucky and another 20 ounce bottle of coke in an airport in Denver do not share the same identity. This is because while they may share every single trait, the fact that they exist in separate places at the same time makes them separate objects that do not share the same identity. From this brief understanding of identity Locke creates his theory of personal identity. Locke first makes the important distinction between non living objects and living objects. The identity of a non living object, a bundle of atoms, changes, if one of these atoms is taken away, or one new one added, it is no longer the same mass or the same body. (Locke 368R). In Locke s theory the moment the atoms change even in the slightest bit with one atom being lost or added the bundle of atoms are no longer the same bundle that existed before the addition/subtraction of atoms. For example, if a stick of chalk made a line on a blackboard for every time one atom of chalk left stick to form the line a completely new stick of chalk would exist. This concept of constant changing identity with the slightest modification does not extend to living ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modern conventional psychiatry (Kraepelin, 1987; Shorter, 1992, 1997; Alexander Selesnick, 1966) uses a predominately biomedical approach to the diagnoses of mental health conditions, which is particularly so for patients of psychotic conditions (Hunter MacAlpine, 1963; Mayer Gross, Slater, Roth, 1975; Guze, 1989; Shorter, 1997). In order for the drug treatment approach to continue, psychotic conditions must be approached using a biomedical perspective. But despite all the influential evidence for this biomedical approach, it is important to note that it is it is not without its flaws (Read, Bentall, Fosse, 2009). For instance, there is no robust evidence for any genetic cause (Read, 2004; Joseph, 2006; Sanders et.al, 2008; Hamilton, 2008; Bentall, 2009), with the evidence for drug intervention argued to be just as questionable (Jones et.al, 2006; Newcomer et.al, 2004; Guo et.al, 2006; Bobes et.al, 2007; Sikich et.al, 2008). Overall, the biomedical psychiatric approach to the treatment of psychosis and madness is incomplete and problematic. The movement of ant psychiatry (Cooper, 1967; Roth, 1973) and the debate of as to whether mental illness is actually a myth (Szasz, 1972), presents even more concern over the status and usefulness of psychiatric diagnosis. There is also a huge debate as to whether labelling a patient with a psychiatric diagnosis for a psychotic condition, and therefore an illness, is not in the patients best interests and is actually more for the benefit of the psychiatrist (Parsons, 1951, 1972; Foucault, 1973; Conrad, 1992; Shilling, 2002; Padamsee, 2011). This is especially a concern as some views will argue that psychosis and madness need not be regarded as an illness, like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Summary Of Magic Johnson And Larry Bird The National Basketball Association (NBA) has transformed over the many of years as an organization and a brand, into a multibillion dollar business that draws thousands and thousands of fans to each and every game. Many contributing factors have made the NBA what it is today, but the main cause of this gain in interest is the ultimate rivalry between two remarkable players, Earvin Magic Johnson and Larry the Legend Bird. The battling rivalry amongst these individuals is comparable to the feud of Coca Cola and Pepsi, or, Star Wars and Star Trek. During the era of modern television, and the still and ever present racial bigotry, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird helped redefine the game of basketball and popularity of the NBA with their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yes, many could argue that former and following rivalries between individuals such as George Mikan and Bob Cousy or Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett could be compared to the Magic Bird rivalry, however timing for Magic and Bird couldn t been any more fitting. During the 80 s, the period of which these individuals played, the NBA desperately needed a new spark, and the NBA got just what it needed. Larry Bird s Celtics during the 1979 80 season made a dramatic improvement from a 29 53 record the year before to 61 21 (Magic Johnson and). While Bird is making an extraordinary turnaround for his Boston Celtics, Magic Johnson, during his rookie season, won a NBA championship for the Los Angeles Lakers. This was the Los Angeles Lakers seventh NBA championship victory. Their success helped the NBA, but their identities off the court supersedes the game of basketball. The years previous to the Magic Bird rivalry were ever changing. The NBA changed from a fundamental, half court game with all white players, to a quick pace, athletically acrobatic game with mainly black players. Few old school former white people, such as Jerry West and Pete Maravich, could participate and compete in this new form of basketball. This different style of basketball significantly swayed many viewers, white fans, from attending the NBA games. White fans felt that the game was very egocentric and didn t involve all the players. • 45. Gh Live Analysis Other Notes The Nurses Ball 2015 GH Live!: 2 super fun, entertaining and enjoyable events back to back! The Nurses Ball (5/1 5/5) is always a blast with its scandalous bombshells and amusing sung performances from the cast. My favorite number this year was The Haunted Starlets doing Meghan Trainor s Dear Future Husband (Castillo s voice is so beautiful) and, of course, Magic Milo The Magic Wands, haha. It was wonderful seeing Britt visiting Spencer (Nicolas Bechtel), her mother and Brad (Parry Shen) to chomp on ice cream and dissect the red carpet. Also, Alicia Leigh Willis reprising her role as Courtney; really sweet moment with a sullen and injured Spencer. GH Live was a treat; aside from a few minuscule errors, the cast handled it like the pros they are. I was hoping someone would mess up, accidentally curse or laugh though; that s the beauty of live TV, right? The Periscope set feed was so awesome! Who knew the stage was so tiny. It was funny seeing who s house was next to what. I hope they do it again soon. I cracked up watching Parise hold his shot dead staring pose for so long and hearing the word live repeated through the dialogue. • 46. Isoamyl Acetate Synthesis Preparing Isoamyl Acetate by the Fischer Esterification Emily Whitsett Lab Partner: Ariel Dryden May 5th, 2015 Organic Chemistry Lab B Experiment performed on April 30th, 2015 Abstract Purpose The purpose of this experiment was to prepare isoamyl acetate from isoamyl alcohol and glacial acetic acid by Fischer esterification. Introduction Esters are derivatives of carboxylic acids. Instead of having the COOH group, an ester will include an alkoxy substituent which is a hydrocarbon group of some kind attached to the oxygen molecule ( OR) (1, 2). Esters emit fruity smells and are widely used as flavor enhancers or fragrances. Esters are typically the predominant compound in natural fruits and flowers that ... The difference of these two weights was recorded and considered the precise mass of the alcohol. A total of 2 mL of glacial acetic acid was added to the vial. Three drops of concentrated H2SO4 and a boiling chip were added to the vial. The vial was attached to a clamp and rested in a sand bath that ranged between 150 160°C. A cold, damp kim wipe was placed around the tip of the vial to act as a condenser. The mixture was refluxed for one hour. Once the hour passed, the reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature and the sand bath was turned off. After the boiling chip was removed from the vial, 1 mL of 5% sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3) was slowly added to the reaction mixture, capped and swirled. The vial was shaken to mix the contents and the cap was removed to release the pressure. This was repeated until the bubbles were no longer produced. A Pasteur pipet was used to remove the aqueous layer which was disposed in a test tube labeled Aqueous Layer . The extraction of the upper organic layer was repeated two more times with new 1 mL portions of 5% NaHCO3, placing the aqueous layer in the labeled test tube each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Summary Of The Construction Of Ghetto In the article The Construction of the Ghetto by Massey and Denton, there are several policies and practices that still has its effect on racial structure today. Among the several practices and policies are the Government Issue (GI) Bill for veterans and housing loans. At a political view, the GI Bill for veterans helped them buy houses at a lower price due to their contribution in the war. Since White veterans have the GI Bill, they moved out to the suburbs during 1940 1970, which was during the time of suburbanization. Because Black veterans did not receive the GI Bill, they were unable to move out and buy houses. This effect is still present today, considering that in the statistics, Blacks are less likely than Whites to own houses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Connotation In The Deaf Community As history progresses certain terms that hearing people use for the Deaf community have been changed due to the negative connotation associated with the definitions. Due to the negative impacts that some terms have there is a need to avoid them to respect the individuals that are in the Deaf community. The three terms that should be avoided are hearing impaired , Deaf mute , and Hearing handicap The term hearing impaired has a negative view towards the Deaf community and should be avoided. In the past this was an acceptable term to use because it was thought to be politically correct, but in present time this is not the case. The term impaired focuses solely on what a Deaf individual is unable to do and implies that the impairment of not being able to hear needs to be fixed. It also implies that being anything but hearing is not acceptable and that Deaf individuals are at a societal disadvantage. Deaf individuals do not believe that they are at a disadvantage nor do they believe that their deafness is an impairment. Therefore, this term should not be used all together due to the negative connotation on the Deaf community and Deaf individuals. Deaf Mute is an offensive term that should be avoided labeling someone that is Deaf. The term Deaf Mute was used heavily in the 18th 19th century. The term Deaf Mute was originally not intended to be disrespectful, but the belief was that deafness caused muteness. This label was associated with Deaf individuals because it ... Although personalisation can have some disadvantages, so therefore there needs to be a balanced between care and control when helping an individual to make decisions in their life, as the Service User would like to make their own decision, however some decisions may have to be made by the Service Provider perspective which might not be in the Service Users best interests. Although some areas have robust statement that personal budgets must be used for the purchase of illegal items, such as alcohol or gambling, therefore this may prove difficult to regulate and enforce. Furthermore the use of direct payment may also leave the individual open to financial abuse from carers or family members. Also advocacy agencies and other third sectors organisations may leave the skills to assist vulnerable people who are receiving personal budgets. Another worry is that the individual budgets will pose a potential financial burden (Adam et al 2009). Individualised budgets that are neglected will need to be sensitively managed. Through personalisation permits nurses to think more resourcefully about needs of patients and encourage them to embrace the opportunity it affords. This makes sure that the individual is the centre of their care plan and are supported to make decisions promotes dignity and self respect, enhancing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
