The Importance Of Forest Depletion In Nepal
Forest Area: 33.7% 25.4% (1990 2015). The forest area has decreased due to increased deforestation and a risk of forest fires in
Nepal.
Finland has supported Nepal s forestry initiatives since the 80s, and it includes large scale preparation, plantation and
implementation of Forestry Sector Master Plan (1988 2011), support to Community Forestry and Leasehold Forestry Programs,
Scientific Forest Management initiatives, National Forest Resource Inventories and others.
Physiologically, the country is divided into five regions, according to altitude (the Terai, the Siwalik, the Middle Mountains, the
High Mountains and the High Himal). Of the total land area, forests cover 4.27 million ha (29.0 percent) and shrub covers 1.56
million ha (10.6 percent) (DFRS 1999). The annual rate of forest depletion in the Terai was 1.3 percent from 1978/79 to 1990/91. In
the hilly area, forest areas have declined at an annual rate of 2.3 percent from 1978/79 to 1994. In the entire country, from 1978 79
to 1994, the forest area has decreased at an annual rate of 1.7%. This trend indicates the ongoing pressure on forest resources,
especially in the Terai. The graph above shows the regional division of the types of natural/ manmade vegetation in the separate
regions of Nepal.

Comparing Odysseus and Spiderman
Heroes in Action: Odysseus Spiderman The late actor, Christopher Reeve, once stated, A hero is an ordinary individual who finds
the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. In the epic, Odyssey, by Homer and the film, Spiderman,
directed by Sam Raimi, the crux of the storyline relates to a hero and the challenges they face along the way. In the Odyssey,
Odysseus is the main character. The epic tale outlines his travels as he attempts to travel back to his home against the will of some
gods. In Spiderman, Peter Parker is the main character. He undergoes a transformation from a human to spider like characteristics
and abilities. Peter Parker devotes his life to saving others who are in need. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter Parker s mentor is his Uncle Ben. Peter is always remembering little things that his uncle has told him in the past years when
he was alive, such as with great power comes great responsibility. The difference in the two characters mentors is that Odysseus has
an actual mentor that he can see and listen to in person and Peter s mentor is someone that he can only faintly remember and recall
the things he said in the past. Along with Odysseus s and Spiderman s mentors, they also have allies. Odysseus s allies are the
Phaecians. After Odysseus s ship is destroyed, he swims to the island Scheria, home of the Phaecians, and is warmly welcomed,
fed, given gifts, and set off in a great ship to his home, Ithaca. Spiderman s allies are the citizens of Queens, New York who believe
in him as being a hero and not a villain. The resemblance in the two characters is that their allies are not just one person in
particular but a group of people. By the end of the heroes journey, Odysseus and Peter go through tests, temptations, and the
development of enemies. Odysseus is tested in controlling his men and getting them to do the right thing as well as of himself and
his boastfulness. He is also tested on overcoming his fears when needing to enter the underworld. Additionally, Spiderman is
scrutinized on saving people and building his name as the city s hero. These two characters are related in the fact that they

Maori Research Paper
One of the primary figures within Maori population Ngapuhi chief Hone Heke, like Rawiri Taiwhanga, was in favour of the signing
of the treaty. Hone Heke told Hobson at a meeting [discussing the treaty]: Governor, you should stay with us and be like a father. If
you go away, then the French or the rum sellers will take us Maori over. How can we know what the future will bring? If you stay,
we can be all as one with you and the missionaries. The quote all as one was also used by Hobson when shaking acknowledging
Maori after they signed the treaty.
Missionaries and British officials commonly encouraged Maori to think of the treaty not as British ruling them and their land,
country, but as a personal relationship better them and the Queen herself. Even years following the treaty, British used this as a way
to control Maori in a way. For example during the northern war Henry Williams printed 400 copies of the treaty in Maori and spent
many days clarifying to Maori tribes and communities that, since the treaty was a sacred compact, described that neither the
Governor and more importantly the Queen would allow any tinihanga (tricky business).
During this time period, in the 1830s there was rumours that the French were also making attempts to colonise New Zealand. Afraid
of the French settling in their [Maori] country, taking over their land, Maori saw the treaty as a way to ensure they would have the
protection of the Queen and her governors if anything was to happen.

Eos Eros And Psyche
(Eros and Psyche)
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Eros is the name of a Greek god of love.Eros as far as god s go has been through MANY MANY MAANNYYYYYY
reincarnations and with that said Eros is characterized to be even more powerful then Zeus in part cause he can jerk the guy around
like a puppet.See every myth where Zeus couldn t keep it in his pants, also known as every myth. There s the aspect of Eros that s
the Child of Aphrodite representing love as a consequential beauty and then there s...cupid...We don t like to talk about him.Now
typical there s first two representations exist that represents concurrently in the same character,Eros will simultaneously be
Aphrodite s son and a powerful and ancient force that even the God s fear.I say typically but really there s only one data plate to

History And Struggles Of Puerto Rican People
I will bring awareness to the history and struggles of the Puerto Rican people. I will relate the struggles of not being recognized in
society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States
citizens. These conditions are identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States.
(Chapter 6) I will also speak on the advancements Puerto Ricans have made today as compared to 40 years ago, and how it has
influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Rico is a small island in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D.
by the Taino Indians and called Borinquen. In 1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of
Juan Ponce de Leon in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native people. The Taino Indians believed
the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their theory they captured a Spaniard and drowned him. It is said that they
watched him for several days until they were sure he was dead. When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted
against them but with no success. As punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors fled the mountains or left the
island. After being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native population was nearly wiped out by disease and war. The Spanish
then began brining African slaves to the island to replace the Indian

The Loss Of Desire In A Streetcar Named Desire, By...
Many people would say that Blanche is innocent and pure; however, through her lies and difficult experiences, it is proven that the
way Blanche portrays herself is pure act. The play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams portrays Blanches dramatic
shift in beliefs, which through her encounters, figuratively and literally destroys her. Blanche, originally, grew up as an innocent
and honest young girl, but her hardships and tough journey from innocence to insanity encouraged this to change her and cause her
to become crazed. Blanches own actions are what lead her to her tragic downfall by the end of the story, but many may consider
Blanche a victim . From the beginning of the play, Blanche considers herself to be innocent, but through many conflicts she begins
to suffer and regress mentally and physically. Experiences such as loss, desire, and violence all lead Blanche to insanity, which
ultimately annihilates her. Early on in the play, Blanche Dubois was a wealthy, innocent and beautiful young woman. After
experiencing the hardship of loss in particular, these traits slowly but surely went away. The tragic loss of Blanches husband, Allan
Grey, and her childhood home in Belle Reve is what caused a turn of events in Blanches innocent life. Blanche Dubois has never
been able to relieve herself from the guilt she feels due to the loss of her husband. Blanche is ultimately responsible for her
husbands suicide, after her insensitive remarks about him

What Is The Poem Analysis Poem
The author Paul Laurence Dunbar wants the readers to acknowledge how he uses concrete and abstract in his poem called Life .
Throughout his poem he uses concrete to make us feel how sadness takes over happiness most of the time, the other strategy the
author uses is abstract he uses it in a deep matter he makes you think something that isn t normal that you can t visualize, he uses it
a lot but also combines it with concrete as well. This connects with something about my personal point of view so far because I also
feel that I can t enjoy life as much as I would want but there s always another bad side and it s the problems that make you fall in
depression and other stuff that has to do with sadness. In the poem Life the writer expresses ... Show more content on

He demonstrated us his point of view by using abstract when he said A minute to smile an hour to weep in it is important to know
that he uses abstract and concrete as well. He used abstract when he said A minute and an hour these nouns are things you can t feel
or sense. It tells you how a smile only lasts a minute compare when you re sad you start crying he used the verb weep for crying
and notice how he said an hour which the noun hour it s another word you can t sense you can only imagine it. He also used
concrete by using smile and weep those are things you can even do besides feeling it with your 5 senses. Another great example he
used for abstract is when he said A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in this demonstrates how even poverty is part of being sad
most of the time. A crust of bread meaning very little food this is abstract because you can see a crust of bread something that you
can see but not sense as well and when he also said a corner to sleep in this is really what you can see someone sleeping in a corner
not necessary a corner but somewhere that is not comfortable at all. The author also includes And joy seems sweater when cares
comes after in my point of view I think this is abstract because how he used sweater and cares those are words you can t feel only
imagine it I also think it s abstract because it s demonstrating you how in people only comes around when you are hurt or in pain
and when they look out for you, you feel like they care about you but in reality they don t really care but you can image the joy

Paradise Lost Predestination Essay
Predestination in Book III of Paradise Lost
Milton s purpose in Paradise Lost is nothing less than to assert eternal providence and justify the ways of God to men a most
daunting task. For Milton to succeed in his endeavour, he has to unravel a number of theologiccal thorns that have troubled
christian philosophers for centuries. Since his epic poem is, essentially, a twelve book argument building to a logical conclusion the
justification of the ways of God to men he will necessarily have to deal with these dogmatic problems, and, in doing so, reveal his
own take on the Christian theology.
What we receive in Paradise Lost, however, is Milton s final conclusion concerning these issues; to discover how he worked a ...

But what is implied by Milton s usage of the word?
God s defence in Book III can be broken into four parts:
1 Man was created free, ie. I made him just and right/Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall . This is covered in lines 97 111;
2 It is through free will that man chose to fall, ie. ...they themselves decreed/Thir own revolt, not I . This is covered in lines 111
119;
3 Though fallen, man shall not lose their free will, ie. I form d them free, and free they must remain ; the notion of the non
mutability of God is also contained here. This is covered in lines 120 128;
4 Using free will, and through God, man shall be saved, ie. Man therefore shall find grace [...] in Mercy and Justice both . This is
covered in lines 129 134, and thus constitutes the final part of God s full argument and defence.
Central to the argument, though, both structurally and in terms importance, is the notion of predestination. The other aspects of the
argument man s free will, and the means by which they shall be saved are contained within that single word, for behind it lies the
entirety of the argument that Milton lays out in Chapter IV of De Doctrina Christiana.

Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther Before Ahasuerus
Artemisia Gentileschi s Esther before Ahasuerus depicts the biblical scene of Esther going before the King of Persia unsummoned
to plead for a request. The Visual Element/Principles of Design that stood out were line, tonal value, color, texture, emphasis, and
unity/variety. The dominant visual element that stands out in this Gentileschi piece is emphasis/focal point. It is clear that she wants
the viewers eyes to be drawn to Esther. She accomplishes this first through tonal value. Gentileschi uses chiaroscuro to illuminate
Esther s face and causes her to be the focal point of the piece. Esther is also emphasized through implied line. The king and ladies
eyes direct the viewer towards Esther. The asymmetric balance also accentuates Esther.

Phonological Awareness Paper
On January 30, 2018, at 2:00p.m., my newsletter presentation was given to four teachers in the exceptional children s department at
Douglas Byrd High School. It was important for me to review the newsletter with my coworkers because our work team is currently
in the process of gathering new information for the start of the new semester which began on January 26, 2018. The age range of
the students in our department range from 15 19 years of age; however, because of their varied learning disabilities and function
levels, we use a lot of beginning reader teaching methods in an effort to work more effectively with all of our students. The
observation began with a review of what phonological awareness means. According to Chard, D.J. Dickson, S.V. (2018), it is being
aware of the fact that oral language is made up of many smaller units, such as words and syllables. In order to be successful at
reading and writing language, an individual must develop skills in phonological awareness. Teaching students to rhyme is very
important also because it is one of the ways students show that they have an awareness of phonological awareness. An example of
rhyming is when a word is broken down by a single letter or combination of letter sounds such as the word chop would be broken
into the onset: ch and rime: op. Students must ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stereotyping can be proved to be wrong, but with discrimination you can not prove it otherwise false, if your denied rights.
What are the causes of discrimination?
The causes of discrimination are having a certain preference for different groups of people. In example, preferring a man over a
woman to be a president of a company, even though they are both qualified the same. Being misinformed also causes
discrimination. Often, racism and prejudice cause discrimination. When an negative attitude is formed over a certain group of
people, mainly the minority group. They face a social challenge, which leads to adding a denial of certain rights to a person.
Although, discrimination is illegal, it happens often. Family type business, who can hire freely can cause a type of discrimination.
They have the choice to hire family, verses someone who is an outsider.
Often discrimination is from our ancestors. If they had a certain way of living, it is passed on through generation. Often, we feel
like we are better than a certain group, or that a certain group may owe us something because of our ancestors.
How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability)
the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?

Essay On Polyphenolics
As shown in Fig. 1, the bonds about 278 and 335 nm were related to the presence of polyphenolics as the antioxidant for green

The porosity and volumetric characteristics of the materials were evaluated by volumetric analyses. In both materials (Fig. 4), the
Type IV N2 adsorption desorption isotherms with H1 type hysteresis corresponded to condensation and evaporation steps, and were
characteristic of periodic mesoporous materials. The textural properties of SBA 15, NH2 SBA 15 and Fe3O4 SBA 15 Cya Cit Au
NPs have been summarized in Table 1. It is noteworthy that the surface area, pore volume, and pore size decreased following the
modification, confirming that the surface modification occurred on the inner surface of the silica wall [23]. A considerable decrease
in the BET surface area upon grafting of cyanuric citric acid and Au nanocrystallites at the surface of the functionalized SBA 15
material (B) clearly suggests that the cyanuric citric acid and Au nanoparticles have been anchored on the inner surface of the
mesopores.

in Fig. 5a, Fe O bond at 580 cm 1 and 634 cm 1 and OH bond at 3398 cm 1 indicate the presence of Fe3O4 nanoparticles. In

How Does Tonicity Affect Red Blood Cells
The Solution Affect on Red Blood Cells
Introduction
Red blood cells are called erythrocytes. Erythrocytes is a cell that travels in the blood. The blood consists of four major parts
including red blood cells. Blood is a fluid that is inhuman in order to survive. There are different purposed for the red blood cells
that are used to keep the body healthy. Red blood cells have a protein that carries more oxygen molecules from the lungs to the
body. Hemoglobin leaves the body and returns carbon dioxide to the lungs. Without out this, people will not survive. When the red
blood cell pass through the blood vessels in your body the cell forms a shape of a round shape like a donut. It the center it looks flat.
Red blood cells have a lack of the nucleus and survive about 120 days. Red blood cell needs to be replaced by fresh ones daily.
According to Mader (2016) Tonicity is the relative concentration of solute (particles) .There are some of the solutions that are

Blacks in America were once slaves. They had neither freedom nor rights. Now, in the 20th century, segregation has been abolished
and discrimination has largely been reduced and blacks are more able to live freely as American citizens. In Early 1950 s, blacks did
not have civil rights, so they had to fight for their freedom by protesting. In 1955, blacks decided to rally together for social justice

by assigning black women to challenging the Jim Crow law on buses in Montgomery, AL. After her arrest, even though she was a
youth, the NAACP thought Colvin would be their key to their rebellion, but could not happen because she later became pregnant.
During her pregnancy, Colvin testified in the Montgomery federal court on the hearing of the Browder v. Gayle case. Her
performance of that civil disobedience did not spark the bus boycott as Parks did, but did started something that Rosa Parks
finished. The elevation of the bus conflict increased on December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat to a white

Similarities Between English American And French Revolutions
The future of a country is somewhat contrasted through distinguished moments in history, the English, American and French
revolutions proved this theory by shaping the countries into the powerhouses they are today, all of which have some similarities in
the general causes that lead to the countries rebelling and eventually creating a new political and social order. The first of the three,
the English Great Rebellion was the result of the monarchy and its following fighting the wishes of parliament throughout the 1640
s. The cause originated from James I who believed in the divine right of kings, basically casting out the parliament involvement,
even though the two were actually supposed to act as a balanced polity . James I and the parliament disagreed on many things, but

beliefs as his father. This added hostility to the situation with parliament and also with Puritans, forcing thousands to relocate to the
land of America. As England eventually slipped into a civil war, fighting over the right of religious practices in court, the people of
Ireland and Scotland started supported parliament and the roles of which it should have in the United Kingdom. As protests

Water Is The Most Precious Resource This Planet Has To
Water is the most precious resource this planet has to offer. A one of a kind substance, water is a resource that sustains all life on
this planet. Yet, humanity supports an industry that uses water inefficiently and irresponsibly, one that takes more 42% humanity s
accessible fresh water and wastes it. Unless we take the proper initiative, our world s water supplies will slowly deplete, leaving
earth in an eternal drought, which could potentially cause an end to the human race. Agriculture is an industry that will cause water
scarcity to erupt throughout the world if not changed from its irresponsible methods. As the world s largest industry, agriculture

Similarly, even when the water does make it to the irrigation systems, much of it is also wasted due to lazy field application
methods. Sprinkler systems are installed to make work easier, but the amount of water it spews out is not necessary, but farmers
refuse to uninstall the systems because it brings maximized growth to crops and thus increasing the amount of harvest. One may
think that agricultural water transportation isn t as defective as it may seem, as some of the water will drip down into the
underground aquifers, but what one doesn t know is that the water also drags dangerous agrichemicals with it. More specifically,
pesticides and insecticides can pollute the water in the underground aquifers, making the water non potable and thus furthering
water scarcity. A huge majority of water used in the agricultural industry is wasted; a predicted 60%, but on the other hand, the one
may argue that through all these troubles, the food that is grown does go to use. This, however, is wrong, because even when our
food is grown or raised through the unnecessary, maximized water, huge quantities of the food is wasted every single day.
Humanity has carelessly managed food production, thus wasting the massive quantities of water that are used to grow crops and
raise animals. First of all, the cultivation of thirsty, exotic plants that are from exotic regions, thus needing higher quantities of

Analysis Of The Film Whale Riders
In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing critical themes combining spiritual and
religious traditions resonating with the audience. The compelling themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership, change of
role in women, connection to nature, traditions and change are all eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman
myself, I can feel empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in convincing her grandfather Koro, that
she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her family awaits the birth of the first born boy who
would become chief, moderately sets the the mood for the rest of the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was she was born;
this is because both her mother and brother [ who was suppose to be the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as
Koro searches for a new Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife, Koro searches for
leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community
in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her
uncle whom she privately learns from.
As Pai s conquest to become leader progress, she unravels the theme of role changing. An interesting factor that I noticed

Q1. What do you need in order to succeed in Formula One? The case studies emphasise that all three racing teams focussed on
different strategies. Their strategies changed within the environment and circumstances, but what is overwhelmingly evident is that
a team needs all the elements to be in synergy and for focus to be on every aspect of the strategy. As the old adage, A team is only
as strong as its weakest link. This means that in order to be successful and to maintain success, you ve got to get all the elements

Whilst all of these technological developments were taking place in the F1 arena, Ferrari chose to focus on it s long term strategy
which focused on the development of the V6 turbocharged engine. This essentially meant that their drivers were now competing
with cars that no longer held a competitive advantage, in fact the cars were now considered inferior. The fundamental flaw in this
instance was that Ferrari had ignored the change in trends in the immediate environment and stuck to what they felt worked. The
strategy was to exploits their strengths but neglected the opportunities that presented themselves. They had failed to respond to an
immediate threat, thus exposing their weaknesses and allowing themselves to retrogress to the extent that Ferrari was no longer
considered a threat. This was further compounded by the problems that were being experienced between Audetto and Laude, Ferrari
s strength was derived somewhat from the relationship between Team Boss and Driver and with Audetto not being able to
accomplish this, it impacted on the performance of the team. In addition, the heavy reliance on the driver, meant that the team was
left at the mercy of it s driver, this was evident when Laude was unable to compete for six weeks, this allowed the competition to
close in on the lead that Ferrari had established. What

Southwest Airlines Profitable
Southwest Airlines Fuel Hedging and Relations to Profitability
Abstract
In order to stay airborne, a passenger airline has to consistently generate profits. Profits come only from paying passengers, hence
all stratagems must be customer oriented. In a scenario where there are many airlines competing with each other, one way of
attracting passengers is to keep the cost of flying low, while providing value for money. On the other hand, expenses must tightly
controlled to reach and stay at the lowest possible. Certain expenses are unavoidable; however, one variable that can be kept low
through decisive planning and foresight is the cost of fuel, which, at best, can be called volatile. A good way to achieve this is by
hedging fuel cost, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fuel has consistently been one of the largest expense categories for domestic airlines, ranking second only to personnel expenses.
During 2003, fuel costs represented, on average, over 16% of the total operating expenses for all U.S. domestic airlines studied by
Richard Cobbs and Alex Wolf (2004). Moreover, airlines are generally unable to increase fares to offset any significant increase in
fuel costs. From 2001 to 2003, these same airlines experienced a 25.9% compound annual increase in jet fuel costs while average
airline pricing decreased by 0.1%, as measured by revenue per available seat mile (Cobbs and Wolf, 2004). Jet fuel costs have
substantially risen over the past several years putting consistent pressure on airlines to maintain positive cash flows. Any saving in
fuel costs works out to profit earned.
In fuel intensive arenas such as the Airlines Industry, high and volatile fuel prices can have a significant impact on the bottom line,
not to mention adding to the difficult task of budgeting for future fuel expenditures. If fuel costs are not actively managed, they can
lead a company into losses. Airlines can mitigate their exposure to volatile and potentially rising fuel costs, as well as natural gas
and electricity costs, through hedging. Hedging allows the fuel market participants (companies that consume large

A Revolution Is A Dramatic And Wide Reaching Change
A revolution is a dramatic and wide reaching change in the way something works or is organized or in people s ideas about it.
Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a
cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life
would advance with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to
advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the start of a new journey, or in the end of
the life humans now know.
In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities in the patterns that occurred in
each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be
true for the agricultural, cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well.
Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Bostrom proves this when he states,
Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence over the course of history and prehistory. The gains come from many
sources, including innovations in communications technology, such as writing and printing, and above all the introduction of
language itself... (Kindle Locations 1443 1446).

it enable amor fati and express optimum Yes saying to our present natural life in the world? How does this overcome slave morality

believes by affirming life in both its cruelty and beauty that we can achieve joy in the present without the need for beliefs in an

one may become overman and go forth with a joyful perspective on life. The Overman adopts the perspective that beauty, cruelty,
happiness and sadness despite their definitional differences are to be appreciated all the same. He explains that it is the obstacles in
life that spurn the greatest happiness, it is explained in this Chinese Proverb: The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest and
most beautiful of all. Nietzsche believes that as there is no adversity in Heaven there can be no such beautiful flowers blooming
there (PHIL1087 #4) and hence no chance for courage, generosity and personal growth. There is hence no chance to adopt a
Dionysian perspective and be at one with all of what is natural, to thence be able to find true Dionysian virtue. This virtue lies in the
acceptance of all that is pleasurable and painful. It then brings happiness as Nietzsche argues that vice sprouts from
disaffection...resentment, spite, from the...lack of inner power and its joy . As the Overman can hold no sense of resentment, or

The unintended consequences that change the world forever are easily observed in hindsight. For WW II to come together the

A simple rule is that energy has to be used, it just does not disappear into the ether.
Think of it as the ultimate re cycle plan in the world. In a way evil and bad emotions have a price that is extracted once it has gone

The emotional energy from this oppression paved the way for Hitler. When the US bombed the boarder between Cambodia and

Pinto Seed Germination
1. The hypothesis of this lab was, If the pinto beans are in constant light, then the number of seeds germinated will increase faster.
Based on our data, we found that our hypothesis was wrong. Our data didn t support our hypothesis, but it does support why our
hypothesis was wrong. The most important data that supports this is the fact that 3 seeds under no light germinated and 1 seed
under constant light germinated. (We re not going to look at constant light right now, because that as our control group.) Our
hypotheses states that we thought more seed under constant light were going to germinate than seeds under no light. The number of
seeds germinated is the most important piece of data because it is the Dependent variable, it s what we are trying to measure, or
figure out.
2. Question: How does the amount of light a pinto seed gets affect seed germination? Answer: I learned that pinto seeds will
germinate faster if they are exposed to less light. The less light that the seed absorbs, the faster it will germinate.

Dr.Strangelove Film Analysis Essay example
Introduction
In 1964, Stanley Kubrick released Dr. Strangelove or: How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb to both critical and
commercial praise. The historical context surrounding the film s release was at the height of the Cold War, just over a year after the
Cuban Missile Crisis as the Vietnam War was beginning to escalate. While based on a more serious book, Red Alert by Peter
George, it was soon transformed into a black comedy that parodied the absurdity of global nuclear destruction and the mentality of
the Cold War. While not as overtly anti war as his third film Paths of Glory, Kubrick still manages to show the ridiculousness of
nuclear war while linking two basic male instincts together, sex and the desire to kill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ripper s paranoia about denying women his essence clarifies the connection between war and sex. While Strangelove admits that
women are essential to the survival of mankind, the motivations of women are suspicious. Ripper s decision to attack Russia when
he was unprovoked is symbolic of his fear of being attacked. He has become paranoid that the same infringement he performs on
others might fall on him. The constant waiting creates a life of its own within his mind and a sense of deep apprehension that the
same people he has abused will take their revenge. In his office, Ripper is usually shot in high contrast lighting. A lighting effect
that is shown largely in melodramas and tragedies to show, evil, fear and the unknown, all of which the character embodies. The
overbearing masculinity of most of the characters is balanced by Mandrake and the Presidents, who are decidedly feminist when
handling the conflicts and attitudes about war. Mandrake plays a passive role when dealing with Ripper. He listens to Rippers
outrageous ideas, being careful not to upset him. He is also very reluctant to help fire Rippers machine gun and tries desperately to
convince him to recall the planes or hand over the code. The President tries every possible diplomatic solution to quell the military
problem. He speaks to the Russian Premier in a feminist manner to try and avoid confrontation. His approach to the

Sociologists use the three major paradigms of sociology to define social problems considering that they are complex in nature.
Functionalism focuses on the entire social system and how well it is unified. It deals with how society offset issues when problems

the fact that it targets the entire social system. Its only difference is conflict theory centers multiple groups fighting to gain power,

Symbolism In The Mockingbird
Symbolism of the Mockingbird
Mockingbirds don t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy they don t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us that is why
it is a sin to kill a Mockingbird Harper Lee Mockingbirds are only here to sing their songs and to bring us joy. A Blue Jay is
someone or something that preys on the week. Mockingbirds have to be shielded from the Blue Jays. Although Mockingbirds don t
always need to be protected they do have to be protected from Blue Jays because they are gentle creatures whereas the Blue Jay is
territorial and corrupt. Mockingbirds are only here to sing their songs and to bring us joy. A Mockingbird is innocent, without fault
and only here to help. To kill a Mockingbird is a sin. (119) This is because a Mockingbird is an animal that doesn t cause harm and
has proved to only have a pure heart. Tom Robinson is the predominant Mockingbird. Tom s death was like the senseless killing of
songbirds. (241) Since another word for mockingbird is a songbird, this quote is telling us that Tom is like a Mockingbird and that
his death wasn t supposed to happen. The unexpected Mockingbird is Boo Radley. Atticus looked like he needed cheering up I ran
to him and said yes sir, I understand Mr. Tate was right he looked at me and said what do you mean well it d sort of be like shooting
a Mockingbird. (318) Clearly Scout is saying that if Maycome were to find out that Boo killed Bob it would probably kill him
because Boo delights in being alone. Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are the representation of the Mockingbird.
A Blue Jay is someone or something that preys on the week. Blue jays are territorial creatures who destroy the gardens of people
who live around them. In our courts, when it s a white man s word against a black man s, the white man always wins. They re ugly,
but those are the facts of life. (221) Fearlessly Atticus is talking to Jem about the white man or Bob Ewell. Since Atticus is
defending Tom and is going against the Ewells in court Bob Ewell is targeting Atticus and his family. Bob Ewell is the most
recognizable Blue jay. They have been the disgrace of Maycomb for three generations. (30) Sternly Atticus is saying that the Ewells

Repression Of Memories In Lila Wingo s The Prince Of Tides
Memory is the faculty by which the mind stores and remembers information. In times of trauma the mind has been known to do
immaculate things, in particular repressing memories. In the culture of the south is infamous for the repressing of memories, the
civil war for example. The culture as a whole is known for trying to suppress and ignore the things that cause it distress or simply
just want to ignore. In The Prince of Tides the repression of memories plays a crucial part in the novel. The repression of memories
sheds light on the tragic culture of the south and how family secrets can have damaging effects that repression can do to the psyche
of the mind. Throughout the novel each character reveals a more about the repression of memories in a southern culture and how it

Essay about Brent Staples A Brothers Murder
Brent Staples A Brother s Murder
A belief I feel very strongly about proposes that all problems faced by our society have solutions. If this belief is true, why do
problems still face us today? The answer could be a result of either laziness by the people in our society in finding these solutions or
just the fact that there are too many problems to solve. Maybe this belief I have is too far out of reach to be true.
On the other hand, Brent Staples, a well respected writer, seems to share this idea with me. In his works, he displays a great deal of
motivation to solve particular problems faced by society. In quot;A Brother s Murder, quot; he uses a personal account of murder

Brent took a trip to his brother s home to intervene with his situation.
What he saw was someone taken over by life on the streets. He was obsessed by this lifestyle of teetering between life and death,

The Rights Of The United States Of America Essay
I am advocating for ending the One Person, One Vote method of voting on referendums and for candidates that is currently
employed in the United States of America. The One Person, One Vote strategy, henceforth referred to as 1p1v, has several key flaws
that have made it an unfair and often inefficient method of deciding what the best decision with the largest net social product, or
who the candidate most intensely supported by constituents, truly is. Making collective decisions based on majority rule is an idea
as old as democracy, and in theory, it seems like the right idea. The idea of proportional and equal voting just seems, fair, doesn t it?
However, the issue with majority rule is that the majority can completely disregard the justifiable and well founded interests of the
minority. This problem is known as Tyranny of the majority . The current 1p1v system that we have in place has proven to allow the
tyranny of the majority to take place from issues as petty as marijuana legalization, to incredibly important issues like same sex
marriage. The 1p1v system fails to give proportional weight to those with greater interest in an issue, leading to inequality. But if
the 1p1v system does not work, and the entire voting system must be restructured to ensure fairness and equality, where do we go
from here? It is well known that the most important issue to Americans is the economy , so I believe we should model our
government and method of voting after the one institution that

competitive advantage Essay examples
INTRODUCTION Competitive advantage(CA) is an advantage competitors gain by providing or offering customers or consumers
greater value for their money through product and service differentiation or through lower prices. Maintaining competitive
advantage is crucial to many businesses or organizations success in order to survive in the market. Competitive advantage is
characterized by superior performance which could be an attribute to outperform the competitors whether current or potential; or
gaining a higher market share in a particular industry thereby ensuring market leadership; or ultimately, maximization of profit.

It is a no frill carrier. They were able to cut cost by operating a no frill carrier i.e. they don t use tickets or travel agents. Focus
Porter s focus strategy is a mix of both the differentiation and the cost leadership strategies i.e. difference or cost leadership within a
small target market segment. For instance: a company should be able to differentiate its products based on a particular target market
segment because if the differences in products does not appeal to consumers in that target market as opposed to consumers in broad
market, there would be no basis for differentiation and competitive advantage will not have been achieved. Selecting the Right
Competitive Strategy There are two schools of thought pertaining to how firms should choose the competitive strategy that best
suits them. One is of the opinion that firms should choose one of the generic strategies and commit all resources to making it work.
Porter belongs to this category. They believe that the value chain necessary for cost leadership is quite different from that of
differentiation strategy and that while differentiation deals with better quality, cost leadership deals with lowering costs wherever
possible.(DESS and DAVIES 1984) What porter articulated here is that there is need for strategic clarity. The 2nd school of thought
opines that the strategies may be combined together to achieve CA. They believe that superior quality which is as a

Economic Commentary on Comcast s Prospective Acquisition...
IB Economic Commentary
Even in technology there are monstrous firms that are power thirsty and try to have the whole market to themselves. Comcast wants
to acquire Time Warner Cable for a $45 billion offer. This is a disadvantage to the consumers because Comcast will have the
position as the dominant cable operator. Furthermore, that could lead to a decline in competitive pressure. Therefore, is it a wise
decision for the deal to be allowed to go through?
Monopoly is a single firm that controls the market of a given product. In a monopoly there is an absence of competition, which
results in high prices and inferior products. Because there is an absence of competition and the firm has total domination of the
market, the demand curve in the entire market for the good is equal to the demand for the individual firm s output. A key
characteristic of a monopoly is the individual s firm downward sloping demand that shows that the firm has some market power.
Market power is the ability to control price without losing market share. A monopoly s profit maximization is achieved when
marginal cost equals marginal revenue.
Comcast is already a monopoly in a few states, but with the acquisition of Time Warner Cable, it will obtain coverage of almost one
third of the United States as seen in the map below (Graph 1). With one third of the United States covered by one cable corporation,
that leads to an absence of competition. Therefore, we see in the graph below that Comcast will cause

Urban Areas Of Rural Areas
CHAPTER ONE
1.0 BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
1.1 INTRODUCTION
Over the years, there has been a very high movement from rural to urban areas and this has made it difficult to improve as well as
sustain development in rural areas. The arrival of civilization brought about urbanization. Civilization is the height of man s
inventions as a means of raising his standard of living. Man believes in high living and indeed obtains much pleasure in the
company of other fellow men. People agglomerate in cities to be able to communicate person to person, person to firm person to
government. Urban areas constitute the development potential of the state, the rural areas have been neglected in terms of
development opportunities. With the declining attitudes that existed in the rural areas the rural dwellers are attracted to the urban
areas to benefits from better paying jobs, qualitative supply of basic amenities, highs level of commercial, recreational and
industrial activities.
Rapid urban population growth and physical expansion are very serious physical planning problem such as poor physical layout
places like Ajegunle and Makoko in Lagos. Also, these include in the list; mass transit problem inadequate supply of housing, water
and other basic social services. Embarking on rural development and sustainability is very important, considering the fact that more
than two third of the Nigeria s population is living in rural areas, and they experience a lot of misery, poverty, morbidity

was slowed down and not as productive as it could have been. More lives could have been helped with advanced equipment and
proper attire. In addition, the evacuation took a long period of time to commence. Once the evacuation started, it took eight days
and until the second of May, leaders of the republic still had not visited Pripyat nor seen the damage done. These specific leaders
did not seem to care what happened to civilians, as they were more concerned with keeping the damage undercover. Furthermore,
these towns did not receive any formal announcement of evacuation. As a result the citizens were unprepared ... Show more content

Most people believe that Chernobyl contributed to the fall of the Soviet Union. This explosion caused social and economic
problems in the Soviet Union. Stated in an issue of the Virginia Quarterly Review, Chernobyl led to ...efforts of environmental
groups to puncture the official silence surrounding the disaster was what led, indirectly, to the birth of glasnost during Gorbachev s
tenure and the collapse of the totalitarian containment vessel. Multiple individuals believe that the Soviet s reasoning for not
protecting the citizens of Ukraine is that they have a ...deeply entrenched propensity for secrecy and mendacity and its general
disregard for the health and safety of its citizens. As a result of glasnost, which is a Soviet policy of being open with their public,
individuals could see how the USSR was handling the disaster in the Ukraine. Several documents were hidden away but with the
coming of glasnost the curtain of secrecy had been removed and the secrets of Chernobyl had been released. By obtaining these
documents individuals are now able to see how the Soviet Union tried to cover up Chernobyl and how unprepared they were to help
innocent civilians. Therefore, many believe that Chernobyl was a major contributing factor in the fall of Soviet Communism.
President Gorbachev stated ...the Chernobyl accident was a more important factor in the fall of the Soviet Union than Perestroika...
Chernobyl is suspected to be the major downfall of the Communist government. The Soviet Union was robbed of the opportunity to
keep news of the accident from reaching the public, secrecy quickly became a massive liability that undermined Soviet citizens
faith in their government. With the Soviet people not having faith in their government, the people started to stray from the
government causing the USSR to

  • 2. The Importance Of Forest Depletion In Nepal Forest Area: 33.7% 25.4% (1990 2015). The forest area has decreased due to increased deforestation and a risk of forest fires in Nepal. Finland has supported Nepal s forestry initiatives since the 80s, and it includes large scale preparation, plantation and implementation of Forestry Sector Master Plan (1988 2011), support to Community Forestry and Leasehold Forestry Programs, Scientific Forest Management initiatives, National Forest Resource Inventories and others. Physiologically, the country is divided into five regions, according to altitude (the Terai, the Siwalik, the Middle Mountains, the High Mountains and the High Himal). Of the total land area, forests cover 4.27 million ha (29.0 percent) and shrub covers 1.56 million ha (10.6 percent) (DFRS 1999). The annual rate of forest depletion in the Terai was 1.3 percent from 1978/79 to 1990/91. In the hilly area, forest areas have declined at an annual rate of 2.3 percent from 1978/79 to 1994. In the entire country, from 1978 79 to 1994, the forest area has decreased at an annual rate of 1.7%. This trend indicates the ongoing pressure on forest resources, especially in the Terai. Comparing Odysseus and Spiderman Heroes in Action: Odysseus Spiderman The late actor, Christopher Reeve, once stated, A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. In the epic, Odyssey, by Homer and the film, Spiderman, directed by Sam Raimi, the crux of the storyline relates to a hero and the challenges they face along the way. In the Odyssey, Odysseus is the main character. The epic tale outlines his travels as he attempts to travel back to his home against the will of some gods. Peter is always remembering little things that his uncle has told him in the past years when he was alive, such as with great power comes great responsibility. The difference in the two characters mentors is that Odysseus has an actual mentor that he can see and listen to in person and Peter s mentor is someone that he can only faintly remember and recall the things he said in the past. Along with Odysseus s and Spiderman s mentors, they also have allies. Odysseus s allies are the Phaecians. After Odysseus s ship is destroyed, he swims to the island Scheria, home of the Phaecians, and is warmly welcomed, fed, given gifts, and set off in a great ship to his home, Ithaca. Spiderman s allies are the citizens of Queens, New York who believe in him as being a hero and not a villain. The resemblance in the two characters is that their allies are not just one person in particular but a group of people. By the end of the heroes journey, Odysseus and Peter go through tests, temptations, and the development of enemies. Odysseus is tested in controlling his men and getting them to do the right thing as well as of himself and his boastfulness. He is also tested on overcoming his fears when needing to enter the underworld. Additionally, Spiderman is scrutinized on saving people and building his name as the city s hero. • 4. Maori Research Paper One of the primary figures within Maori population Ngapuhi chief Hone Heke, like Rawiri Taiwhanga, was in favour of the signing of the treaty. Hone Heke told Hobson at a meeting [discussing the treaty]: Governor, you should stay with us and be like a father. If you go away, then the French or the rum sellers will take us Maori over. How can we know what the future will bring? If you stay, we can be all as one with you and the missionaries. The quote all as one was also used by Hobson when shaking acknowledging Maori after they signed the treaty. Missionaries and British officials commonly encouraged Maori to think of the treaty not as British ruling them and their land, country, but as a personal relationship better them and the Queen herself. Even years following the treaty, British used this as a way to control Maori in a way. For example during the northern war Henry Williams printed 400 copies of the treaty in Maori and spent many days clarifying to Maori tribes and communities that, since the treaty was a sacred compact, described that neither the Governor and more importantly the Queen would allow any tinihanga (tricky business). During this time period, in the 1830s there was rumours that the French were also making attempts to colonise New Zealand. Afraid of the French settling in their [Maori] country, taking over their land, Maori saw the treaty as a way to ensure they would have the protection of the Queen and her governors if anything was to happen. ... I will relate the struggles of not being recognized in society, being discriminated against, and not being able to vote unless living in the states despite the fact we are born United States citizens. These conditions are identical to what Zinn states happened to slaves in his book, A People History of the United States. (Chapter 6) I will also speak on the advancements Puerto Ricans have made today as compared to 40 years ago, and how it has influenced me today as a Puerto Rican women. Puerto Rico is a small island in the Caribbean. It was first settled around 1000 A.D. by the Taino Indians and called Borinquen. In 1493, Christopher Columbus claimed it for Spain but it wasn t until the arrival of Juan Ponce de Leon in 1508 that Spain began to colonize and rule over the land and its native people. The Taino Indians believed the Spanish colonizers had divine powers and to test their theory they captured a Spaniard and drowned him. It is said that they watched him for several days until they were sure he was dead. When they learned that the Spanish were mortal, they revolted against them but with no success. As punishment, Ponce De Leon ordered 6,000 shot; survivors fled the mountains or left the island. After being settled by Spain and being enslaved, the native population was nearly wiped out by disease and war. The Spanish then began brining African slaves to the island to replace the Indian ... • 7. The Loss Of Desire In A Streetcar Named Desire, By... Many people would say that Blanche is innocent and pure; however, through her lies and difficult experiences, it is proven that the way Blanche portrays herself is pure act. The play A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams portrays Blanches dramatic shift in beliefs, which through her encounters, figuratively and literally destroys her. Blanche, originally, grew up as an innocent and honest young girl, but her hardships and tough journey from innocence to insanity encouraged this to change her and cause her to become crazed. Blanches own actions are what lead her to her tragic downfall by the end of the story, but many may consider Blanche a victim . From the beginning of the play, Blanche considers herself to be innocent, but through many conflicts she begins to suffer and regress mentally and physically. Experiences such as loss, desire, and violence all lead Blanche to insanity, which ultimately annihilates her. Early on in the play, Blanche Dubois was a wealthy, innocent and beautiful young woman. After experiencing the hardship of loss in particular, these traits slowly but surely went away. The tragic loss of Blanches husband, Allan Grey, and her childhood home in Belle Reve is what caused a turn of events in Blanches innocent life. Blanche Dubois has never been able to relieve herself from the guilt she feels due to the loss of her husband. Blanche is ultimately responsible for her husbands suicide, after her insensitive remarks about him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. What Is The Poem Analysis Poem The author Paul Laurence Dunbar wants the readers to acknowledge how he uses concrete and abstract in his poem called Life . Throughout his poem he uses concrete to make us feel how sadness takes over happiness most of the time, the other strategy the author uses is abstract he uses it in a deep matter he makes you think something that isn t normal that you can t visualize, he uses it a lot but also combines it with concrete as well. This connects with something about my personal point of view so far because I also feel that I can t enjoy life as much as I would want but there s always another bad side and it s the problems that make you fall in depression and other stuff that has to do with sadness. In the poem Life the writer expresses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He demonstrated us his point of view by using abstract when he said A minute to smile an hour to weep in it is important to know that he uses abstract and concrete as well. He used abstract when he said A minute and an hour these nouns are things you can t feel or sense. It tells you how a smile only lasts a minute compare when you re sad you start crying he used the verb weep for crying and notice how he said an hour which the noun hour it s another word you can t sense you can only imagine it. He also used concrete by using smile and weep those are things you can even do besides feeling it with your 5 senses. Another great example he used for abstract is when he said A crust of bread and a corner to sleep in this demonstrates how even poverty is part of being sad most of the time. A crust of bread meaning very little food this is abstract because you can see a crust of bread something that you can see but not sense as well and when he also said a corner to sleep in this is really what you can see someone sleeping in a corner not necessary a corner but somewhere that is not comfortable at all. The author also includes And joy seems sweater when cares comes after in my point of view I think this is abstract because how he used sweater and cares those are words you can t feel only imagine it I also think it s abstract because it s demonstrating you how in people only comes around when you are hurt or in pain and when they look out for you, you feel like they care about you but in reality they don t really care but you can image the joy ... • 9. Paradise Lost Predestination Essay Predestination in Book III of Paradise Lost Milton s purpose in Paradise Lost is nothing less than to assert eternal providence and justify the ways of God to men a most daunting task. For Milton to succeed in his endeavour, he has to unravel a number of theologiccal thorns that have troubled christian philosophers for centuries. Since his epic poem is, essentially, a twelve book argument building to a logical conclusion the justification of the ways of God to men he will necessarily have to deal with these dogmatic problems, and, in doing so, reveal his own take on the Christian theology. What we receive in Paradise Lost, however, is Milton s final conclusion concerning these issues; to discover how he worked a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The dominant visual element that stands out in this Gentileschi piece is emphasis/focal point. It is clear that she wants the viewers eyes to be drawn to Esther. She accomplishes this first through tonal value. Gentileschi uses chiaroscuro to illuminate Esther s face and causes her to be the focal point of the piece. It was important for me to review the newsletter with my coworkers because our work team is currently in the process of gathering new information for the start of the new semester which began on January 26, 2018. The age range of the students in our department range from 15 19 years of age; however, because of their varied learning disabilities and function levels, we use a lot of beginning reader teaching methods in an effort to work more effectively with all of our students. The observation began with a review of what phonological awareness means. According to Chard, D.J. Dickson, S.V. (2018), it is being aware of the fact that oral language is made up of many smaller units, such as words and syllables. In order to be successful at reading and writing language, an individual must develop skills in phonological awareness. Teaching students to rhyme is very important also because it is one of the ways students show that they have an awareness of phonological awareness. What are the causes of discrimination? The causes of discrimination are having a certain preference for different groups of people. In example, preferring a man over a woman to be a president of a company, even though they are both qualified the same. Being misinformed also causes discrimination. Often, racism and prejudice cause discrimination. When an negative attitude is formed over a certain group of people, mainly the minority group. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku (stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately learns from. On the other hand, expenses must tightly controlled to reach and stay at the lowest possible. Mankind has experienced three life changing revolutions that Yuval Noah Harari discusses in his book Sapiens. There has been a cognitive, an agricultural, and a scientific revolution, and now Nick Bostrom explores in his book, Superintelligence, how life would advance with a fourth one, a transhuman revolution. Finding the right path to artificial intelligence (AI) will lead to advancements for humankind that in relation to the past three revolutions could result in the start of a new journey, or in the end of the life humans now know. In relation to the previous three revolutions, the transhuman revolution will share many similarities in the patterns that occurred in each revolution. The main foundation of any revolution is cooperation, curiosity, and creativity by the people, and that serves to be true for the agricultural, cognitive, and scientific revolutions and will be a main platform for the transhuman revolution as well. Along with this, each past revolution has undergone an increase in collective intelligence. Bostrom proves this when he states, Humanity has gained enormously in collective intelligence over the course of history and prehistory. Based on our data, we found that our hypothesis was wrong. Our data didn t support our hypothesis, but it does support why our hypothesis was wrong. The most important data that supports this is the fact that 3 seeds under no light germinated and 1 seed under constant light germinated. (We re not going to look at constant light right now, because that as our control group.) Our hypotheses states that we thought more seed under constant light were going to germinate than seeds under no light. The number of seeds germinated is the most important piece of data because it is the Dependent variable, it s what we are trying to measure, or figure out. 2. Question: How does the amount of light a pinto seed gets affect seed germination? Answer: I learned that pinto seeds will germinate faster if they are exposed to less light. The less light that the seed absorbs, the faster it will germinate. 3. For the most part, the design of our experiment was pretty good. One weakness I think we had was our constant. The historical context surrounding the film s release was at the height of the Cold War, just over a year after the Cuban Missile Crisis as the Vietnam War was beginning to escalate. While based on a more serious book, Red Alert by Peter George, it was soon transformed into a black comedy that parodied the absurdity of global nuclear destruction and the mentality of the Cold War. A Blue Jay is someone or something that preys on the week. Mockingbirds have to be shielded from the Blue Jays. The Rights Of The United States Of America Essay I am advocating for ending the One Person, One Vote method of voting on referendums and for candidates that is currently employed in the United States of America. The One Person, One Vote strategy, henceforth referred to as 1p1v, has several key flaws that have made it an unfair and often inefficient method of deciding what the best decision with the largest net social product, or who the candidate most intensely supported by constituents, truly is. Making collective decisions based on majority rule is an idea as old as democracy, and in theory, it seems like the right idea. The idea of proportional and equal voting just seems, fair, doesn t it? However, the issue with majority rule is that the majority can completely disregard the justifiable and well founded interests of the minority. This problem is known as Tyranny of the majority . The current 1p1v system that we have in place has proven to allow the tyranny of the majority to take place from issues as petty as marijuana legalization, to incredibly important issues like same sex marriage. The 1p1v system fails to give proportional weight to those with greater interest in an issue, leading to inequality. But if the 1p1v system does not work, and the entire voting system must be restructured to ensure fairness and equality, where do we go from here? It is well known that the most important issue to Americans is the economy , so I believe we should model our government and method of voting after the one institution that ... IB Economic Commentary Even in technology there are monstrous firms that are power thirsty and try to have the whole market to themselves. Comcast wants to acquire Time Warner Cable for a $45 billion offer. This is a disadvantage to the consumers because Comcast will have the position as the dominant cable operator. Furthermore, that could lead to a decline in competitive pressure. Therefore, is it a wise decision for the deal to be allowed to go through? Monopoly is a single firm that controls the market of a given product. In a monopoly there is an absence of competition, which results in high prices and inferior products. Because there is an absence of competition and the firm has total domination of the market, the demand curve in the entire market for the good is equal to the demand for the individual firm s output. A key characteristic of a monopoly is the individual s firm downward sloping demand that shows that the firm has some market power. Market power is the ability to control price without losing market share. A monopoly s profit maximization is achieved when marginal cost equals marginal revenue. Comcast is already a monopoly in a few states, but with the acquisition of Time Warner Cable, it will obtain coverage of almost one third of the United States as seen in the map below (Graph 1).
