Target Market Analysis Paper
Situation Monica and Andy is a Chicago based brand of boutique baby and toddler clothing, blankets,

Target Audience The current and primary audience, or specific publics for the M+A brand is new
moms, new grandparents, and baby gift buyers in the city of Chicago. Along with those publics some
others are current mothers and grandparents also in Chicago. The target audience is currently accurate
and appropriate for the brand in the Chicago area. Monica and Andy must not only cater to their
current audience, but also but they must cater to the same type of people in the new areas of Los
Angeles and New York. The one way and quickest way this can happen is by having a pseudo target
audience in influential celebrity moms and famous elite blogger mothers that are constantly viewed
and mimicked by the M+A targeted publics. They must be famous and elite in the areas of Los
Angeles and New York. If the target audience can test out the Monica and Andy products, such as the
cuddle box , on their little ones, the positive experiences about Monica and Andy will spread. Strategy
To use a comprehensive communications campaign to create awareness about the brand s image, by
encouraging the target audience to broadcast their use of Monica and Andy products. Tactics

Ruler Drop Test Essay
The ruler drop test is used to measure a person s reaction time. Which is the time taken for an athlete
to react to a stimulus or an event.
The equipment needed to measure this is a 1 meter long ruler and a calculator.
The person to be tested stands near the edge of a table, resting their elbow on the table so that their
wrist is extended over the side. The assessor holds the ruler vertically in the air between the index
finger and thumb of the subject, but not touching. The zero mark should be lined by to the finger and
thumb. The subject should indicate that they are ready to the assessor. Without warning, release the
ruler and let it drop the subject must catch it as quickly as possible as soon as they see it fall. Record

for example, if the opponent makes an advance on them if any physical way, the subject would need to
be able to move quick and make a decision on how to address the situation and defeat their opponent.
The positives of this test are that it is very simplistic and can be conducted at any given time, with a
very small amount of equipment needed for this to be set up. Also, this test would not take long to
carry out.
However, an assistant is always needed as the ruler would need to be dropped by another person, so
the action would be sudden to make the results valid, and this test is not very valid as it can be seen as
too simplistic to accurately calculate the reaction time of an individual.
My result:7.4cm
After completing this test, my result showed that I had an excellent reaction towards a stimulus, and
would be very suitable for sports that would require me to react quickly, for example baseball would
be a suitable sport for me as I could react quickly when batting as once the ball has been bowled, I
would only have a short period of time to bat without getting a strike. if I began to play baseball, and
trained regularly I would be able to maintain a score that would stay in the excellent category.
However, if I did not train in this specific area, these results would decrease if this test was taken

The European Court Of Justice
Introduction Although the European Court of Justice (ECJ) continues to insist that national procedural
autonomy remains a key consideration, its case law shows that this principle has enjoyed a varying
amount of deference through the decades. Although the principle of equivalence is tolerably clear,
setting out clear requirements that can be easily fulfilled by national legal orders, effectiveness has had
a much more chequered history. Francovich also represents a further incursion on the procedural
autonomy of Member States. This essay will argue that the ECJ s shifting attitudes over the years
ranging from relative deference to activism ultimately spring from non legal considerations,
particularly political necessity and a desire to preserve the EC s core competencies; such political
considerations also explain why there has never been generally applicable legislation that harmonises
national remedies. Starting point: national procedural autonomy? It is true that the ECJ has outlined
the importance of national procedural autonomy in its judgments over the years. In Comet, it held that
it was for each Member State s national legal order to lay down the procedural rules for proceedings
designed to ensure the protection of [EU] rights . Three decades later, this exhortation was repeated in
Unibet, where the Court thought the EC Treaty was not intended to create new remedies in the
national law... other than those already laid down by national law . National

Pathogenesis Research Paper
Pathogenesis The intestinal tract is responsible for the secretion and reabsorption of fluids and
electrolytes, handling approximately 6,500 mL of fluid / day in an adult. Of this fluid only 2,000 mL
to 3,000 mL comes from fluid consumption. The remaining portion comes from a combination of the
foods we eat, gastric, pancreatic, biliary, and upper intestinal secretions. (Center for Disease Control
and Prevention, 2003) In acute gastroenteritis the re absorptive capacity of the gastrointestinal (GI)
tract is overwhelmed, causing diarrhea and leading to dehydration if left untreated. To prevent or
correct dehydration it is important to replace the lost fluids. Due to the overwhelmed GI tract water

How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System
Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by
Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses
Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that
conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main
components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess and
suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes , such
as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek honor
system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes.
Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of the
main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his
conversation with Paris. In book 3, when Paris avoids Menelaus, Hector forces him back into battle by
saying, Can t you just hear it, the long haired Greeks chuckling and saying that our champion wins for
good looks but comes up ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The whole conversation in book 3 between Paris and Hector is about fighting Menelaus. Hector insists
that Paris fight Menelaus head on by shaming him: No, don t stand up to Menelaus: you might find
out what kind of a man it is whose wife you re sleeping with (3. 57). From Hector s use of verbal
irony, we can see he expects and believes that only through fighting a final heroic battle head on will
bring honor; thus, it must be obeyed. The main components of the Honor system that Hector values
greatly are the titles, war prizes, and heroic battles. Homer explicitly maneuvers Hector as a voice
piece to suggest the concept of the honor system that can be seen applied to the battles between the
Trojans and the

Introduction: Etic or Emic? At what extent are McSweeney s critiques valuable?
Arguably, Hofstede s work (1980, 1997) represents a pioneering approach of culture as a way of
comparing international management frameworks. First of all, prior to offering any evaluations in
regards to McSweeney s criticism (2002a/b), it is crucial to identify the nature of Hostede s work
within the entire sphere of the culture approach itself.
In contrast to the guarantors of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As McSweeney s (2002a: 95 99) argues, respondents cultural framework is made up by three non
interacting and durable levels of culture (Tab.2).
At the first level, the assumptions which would free this model from any shortcomings would be that
there is only one IBM culture and that there is also a common worldwide occupational culture for each
job (Hofstede 1980a: 181). What are these assumptions based on?
[Tab.2]
According to McSweeney (2002a: 96), these assumptions are too crude and implausible to underpin
Hofstede s emphatic empirical claims . Following the thread of his argument we come across a
situation where assuming that an IBM employee, whether in a developed USA head office or a new
opened branch office in Pakistan, will possess the same identical organizational and occupational
culture does become hard to encompass. In response to this argument, Hofstede acknowledges that
considerable differences exist at the organizational level (1991: 93), yet it redefines the entire
organizational culture as a mere set of shared perceptions of daily practices (1991: 182 3), therefore
distancing from the early stage value based definition. According to McSweeney (2002b), this is only
a failed attempt to deliver a straightforward concept and definition of organizational culture.
Back to Culture
Hofstede s vision of culture is often linked to two different concepts, unique national tendency and
central tendency, respectively. In the

The Debate On Marriage And Parenting Rights For Gay And
The debate on marriage and parenting rights for gay and lesbian individuals has been one of the most
hotly contested social issues in recent history. While many arguments are cited to prevent gay couples
from enjoying equality, these arguments ultimately condense to concerns rooted in homophobia.
Opponents of the LGBT community contend that same sex parenting contradicts the natural order of
the world, subjects children to unnecessary societal stigma, and that the state has a right to favor
heterosexual norms. However, these concerns are either unfounded or unjustly infringe on the rights of
gay and lesbian couples. Consequently, there is no reason to prohibit gay or lesbian couples from
obtaining custody of children. Proponents of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is unjust to use the same argument to prevent gay couples from adopting. Skeptics of gay
and lesbian parents also raise the concern that the children of same sex couples would be subject to
stigma from society. They argue that gay parents should not be granted custody rights because their
children would be subject to unnecessary ridicule by their peers. In short, their position is that children
should not be placed into harsh conditions simply due to their parents sexual behavior. While the well
being of the child is an important concern in custody matters, stigma that exists within society must
not be written into law. Bigotry is an unfortunate component of human nature, and it will likely never
be erased completely. The law cannot control these biases, but it should not be influenced by the
fleeting passions of the time. If the law gives biases that exist within society legitimacy, they will
merely be reinforced for generations. Furthermore, a primary purpose of law is to serve as a guardian
of the minority rights. Basic rights must be enshrined in law so that they are insulated from tyrannical
majorities that might act with malice toward a minority group. Preventing gay couples from adopting
because society holds a bias against them unjustly sacrifices a crucial liberty for homosexuals. The
Supreme Court has ruled that racial stigma cannot have an influence

Harriet Jacobs a True Woman
The nineteenth century was an age of male dominance as well as slavery; even white women were
viewed more as property or a burden to men instead of an equal. In concur with male supremacy the
cult of true womanhood was practiced, an ideology which was brought forth in the eighteen century
stating four virtues which women should abide by, piety, purity, submissiveness and domesticity, in
turn they would be grant happiness and power; hardly being the case of either, women were subjected
to the control and dependency of their male counterparts. These virtues were taken mostly in attention
of the elite white woman, not considering poor white women as well as slaves, who were thought to
be less than women; African American women were excluded ... Show more content on

Jacobs refuses to accept Dr. Flint, escapes and not with her benefit in mind but with the hope of
freedom for her children. She knows that Dr. Flint would not sell her children if she were there for fear
of her escape in search of them, but she figured that if she were no longer around her children would
instead be a burden to the doctor and he would eventually consent to selling them. When her children
are finally safely in the North and Jacobs is able to flee the south in search of them, her main concern
was to find employment and being able to provide for them, she told her daughter Ellis I had laid up a
hundred dollars and before long I hoped to be able to give her and Benjamin a home, and send them to
school. A woman supporting her children, with no man as head of the household was not viewed as
domestic; she was degraded for not marrying and having children out of wedlock. Jacobs gives a new
definition of domestic, it may have been too futuristic to people of her era, but today a domestic
person is devoted to home life or household affairs. Jacobs did not need to accept Dr. Flint s attempt to
domesticate her or need to conform to the domesticity expectations of needing to be married, she
provided for her children even when she had the bare minimal for herself, she always thought of their
welfare first even if it meant an anguished

I want my life to count for something, he told a friend. This shows us that Wright was motivated not
only by his longing to leave the racism and crap that he had to deal with in the south. But he also
wanted to make it better so that other black folk didn t have to go through the same thing. He had a
true desire to change they way society acted and it takes a true man to set of in this journey. But this is
also the reason Wright wrote, so that other people could see how his kind fair and that they really are
just the same as the white people. his first book was a book called black boy. Wright continued to
plow through books and write. He later joined the Federal Writers Project, and in 1937, with dreams
of making it as a writer, he moved to New York City,A year after, Wright published Uncle Tom s

The stories earned him a $500 prize from Story magazine.
Some of the significant accomplishments of Richard Wright is simply that he is one of America s

with the superb quality of his work. That and he gained respect from many people in America. But

availability of their food. All green sea turtles that reach adult hood are herbivores that primarily
consume sea grasses and algae. Juvenile green sea turtles, on the other hand, are carnivores primarily
consuming on both plants and animals such as crustaceans, sea grasses, and tubeworms ( Green Sea

to consume about 275 different species of seaweed. To help them cope with this diet, they have micro
flora living in their large intestine to breakdown the cellulose that is indigestible (NOAA Fisheries par.

Comparing Hangman And A Hanging
Capital Punishment in Hangman and The Two Fisherman
In The Two Fisherman by Morley Callaghan and A Hanging by George Orwell capital punishment is a
major theme throughout the two stories. Capital Punishment is wrong and needs to be changed. This is

who are criminals, that end up losing their lives through capital punishment.
Throughout The Two Fisherman story, there was a lot of mixed emotions from the characters. In The

Essay about President Abraham Lincoln
Although Abraham Lincoln was President over a century and a half ago (1861 1865), he is still
considered to be one of our greatest Presidents, and his legacy remains important for the nation today.
By the late 1800s, sectional tensions in America had led to a split between the Northern and Southern
states. During the Antebellum period, the North became more industrialized as the South increased its
agricultural production. The two sections developed differing economies and ideas and by April 14,
1861, at Fort Sumter, the tensions came to a head as the American Civil War began. Skillfully guiding
the nation through this time of hardship and considered one of the greatest presidents in American
history, Abraham Lincoln left a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His unyielding position on the preservation of the Union can be seen today as the nation is now known
as the United States of America and includes the Southern regions that attempted to secede in the
1860s.
Preserving the Union, however, was only one of the accomplishments of Lincoln that still has an
impact today. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery increased
in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue dividing the
North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation.
With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional
tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for
secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course of
his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the
immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on
September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed
secession, and on January 1, 1863, Lincoln formally signed the Emancipation Proclamation.
With this law, all slaves in the Confederacy were freed, and later those in the Border States and
Union states were also freed with the

Culture specific care is a vital skill to the modern nurse, as the United States continues to consist of

of how knowledge of the past sheds light on the present HSC 2013
Speeches form an interpretation of historical events and values which are moulded around the speaker
s opinions and ideology. Paul Keating s Funeral Service of the Unknown Australian Soldier 1993 and
Noel Pearson s An Australian History for Us All 1996, demonstrate a contrast between how a
historical and contextual understanding of these speeches helps create the necessary apperception on
the given audience to convey the speaker s message appropriately. Despite the fact that both speeches

As his speech did not withhold any potential controversy, the content and context of it was widely
understood and appreciated by his audience.
Funeral Service of the Unknown Australian Soldier , was addressed by Paul Keating as an individual,
as well as the Australian Prime Minister, the representative of the entire nation. The purpose was to
pay respect to Australians who had fallen in battle with the dedication of a monument, without
glorifying or celebrating Australia s participation in war. As it was addressed to a mixed audience, the
wider Australian community, the themes remained universal, to be easily appreciated with minimal
knowledge and understanding of Australia and it s history in war. This unknown Australian is not
interred here to glorify war over peace; ... or of one generation above any that has or will come later
reflects on Keating s anti war perspective which is contextually proven, as he was well known for
being extremely critical of war and Australia s participation in it as an ally. Without the knowledge of
Keating s anti war ethics, the speech was often thought to celebrate war and Australia s participation
in it, thus creating a divided reception of the speech by the audience. Despite this, Keating had
substantial social respect because of his title as prime minister, which resulted in the audience readily
accepting his point of view.

A Brief Overview of Porn and the 20th Century
Porn and technology:
Pornography has, more than any other type of media, been on the bleeding edge of technology.
Pushing new mediums to their limit, usually in the last way they were ever intended to be used (Gross,
2010). We start off the 20th Century with the Half tone printing process being only two decades old.
This was the first process that allowed images to be inexpensively reproduced. Magazines were the
leading pornographic medium, and they were only available by mail. Then, with the advent of film,
the Stag films were first produced in Germany and Latin America. With the arrival of do it yourself
film equipment in the 1940 s anyone could make a film. The problem was it required a lab to make
mass copies, and since porn was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This concept was later perfected with webcams and credit cards, giving the user full control over a

Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has
had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first defined by Webster as Licentious painting or literature
. From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the beginning of
the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn
but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming
demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century.
Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned
government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became
more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900 s we see masturbation as an act someone took
shame in, because it meant that person didn t have anyone to have sex with. In modern times
masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it
is accepted. When porn was first discovered by the Victorians within the Roman ruins of Pompii there
was a major fear that the lower educated, working class would do nothing all day but sit at home and

Mice And Men Theme
Of Mice and Men is a novel of hopes and dreams that get broken or shattered. This is evident from the
beginning to the end. The theme is kept vivid by having the characters wanting to believe in a dream
of some kind. The title, Of Mice and Men, comes from a line of the poet Robert Burn. The original
line is The best laid schemes o mice an men gang aft aglay. Which, in modern English, translates to:
The best laid schemes of mice and men often go away. In other words, even something that has been
perfectly planned seldom becomes reality. This concept foreshadows the events that will occur
throughout the narration. It is a natural inclination for a man to dream. Some have lifelong ambitions,
while others may have short term goals. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

on, George! Tell about what we are going to have... . This is reinforced by George s quote you know

killing Lennie, George reassures him through this happy place they had imagined and yearned for

powerful a dream can be in one s life. In Of Mice and Men the dream gives them life, even though life

George and Lennie may have never achieved their dream; but that is what kept their friendship alive

Social Networking And Its Effects On Social Media
Megan E. Garner Professor Seward Information Literacy ITE 119 41 30 March 2016 Social
Networking Misfires With the development of advances in technology, communication through social
networking has risen immensely. Communicating is not only less complicated, it is also relatively
inexpensive. Many teens in relationships view social media as a place where they can feel more
connected with the daily events in there significant other s life, share emotional connections, and let
their significant other know they care (Lenhart, Anderson, and Smith). However, the ease of access to
social networking has allowed many adolescents to become overly involved. Networking has the
potential to influence adolescents both emotionally and physically which in turn may lead to negative
behaviors. An article from procon.org stated, The use of social networking sites is correlated with
personality and brain disorders, such as the inability to have in person conversations, a need for instant
gratification, ADHD, and self centered personalities, as well as addictive behaviors (ProCon.org).
Essentially, social networking has rising negative influences on teens because of increased cyber
bullying, lack of respect for personal privacy, and its addictive qualities. Among cell phone calls,
texting and social media sites, teens today have no problem interacting with each other virtually rather
than interacting with each other on a personal setting. One article states, Given that our brains are

Locke And Diderot Influence On The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment was a time of great improvement and prosperous thinking which continued to
spread ideas many years after it concluded. Traditional Western society was formatted around a social
structure where the king was given all executive power and the rest of society remained below him.
This government style left the rest of society stranded with no way to voice their opinions on
government decisions and social resolutions. Eventually, individuals like John Locke and Denis
Diderot began to question traditional Western society and voice their opinions on social structure and
government style. Revolutionaries like Locke and Diderot acted as a catalyst to the start of the
Enlightenment, a unique period of growth. As Western Societies began ... Show more content on

Locke s ideas if human rights inspired the American revolution where the colonies declared their
freedom from the king and wrote the Declaration of Independence which formally voiced the colonies
complaints towards the king and Britain. The colonies believed a revolution was justified because all
men are born equal and...with certain unalienable rights [of] Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
(Jefferson). The idea of unalienable rights, as described in the Declaration of Independence, is derived
from the ideas of John Locke s human rights. Although John Locke s ideas influenced the American
Revolution, as Diderot and his ideas of a fair government inspired the French Revolution. Before the
French Revolution, the king was able to enact any laws without any opposition from any other
executive power and the majority of the population (lower class) was negatively affected. The lower
class of France eventually gathered and declared themselves the National Assembly, who was the true
government body in France because they were they majority. The National Assembly gathered and
write the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen which outlined the basic rights that Man is
entitled to and provided a fair way for France to be ruled. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and
Citizen stated, civil distinction, therefore, can be funded only on public unity (National Assembly).
This passage states that the government can only rule by the way that the governed depicts and
suggests that the laws enacted by the king or the National Assembly should be made in the best
interest of the country, and not specifically for an individual person. Diderot s ideas of a fair rule and a
revised government style influenced the French Revolution, as seen in the Declaration of the Rights of
Man and Citizen. The ideas derived from

Jane Smiley s Growing Up At Home
I. Thesis Statement: Parents have to become more aware of the affect they are having on their children
when they do no implement chores into a child s day to day activities. Chores help establish good
work ethics in which children will need as they grow into adult life. Proverbs 22:6 says Train up a
child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6 King
James Version). Chores should not be looked at as the leftover job a parent does not want to do but
more as experiences and learning lessons that carry on with a child throughout life. Gearing up a child
to become a hard worker is a tough job, and as a parent you have to be prepared to put in the work.

Integration Has Been The Vanguard Initiative Of The...
Since 2010, integration has been the vanguard initiative of the Office of the Director of National
Intelligence (ODNI). This initiative has been successful in several areas to include: the creation of
National Intelligence Managers (NIM) for all primary geographic regions and functional areas;
enhanced transparency; and the focus on the negative impacts of over classifying documents.
However, not all efforts to integrate the intelligence community (IC) have been successful. For
instance, the ODNI did not succeed at creating a comprehensive sharing environment, and has not
fully integrated federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. Although, these failed areas
of integration can be mitigated in the future through the appropriate initiatives taken by the ODNI.
The creation of NIMs for all primary geographic regions and functional areas paid astronomical
dividends to IC integration efforts. Placing one individual in charge of a geographic region or
functional area allowed for a united effort across the IC for each particular problem set. Additionally,
this broke down the collection and analysis barriers, because it unified personnel, causing them to
realize the common objective instead of competing against one another. The creation of NIMs across
the board for all primary problem sets, is the greatest success story of IC integration since 2010. The
drive of the ODNI to make the IC more transparent has integrated the IC into the lives of U.S.

Destiny Case
Internet Security Protocols Internet security protocols use many different methods to protect your
computer from dangers across the internet. Because there are so many methods to do this with, there
are also many protocols concerning internet security. Internet protocols as a group are often referred to
as TCP or IP. TCP stands for Transmission Control Protocol and IP stands for Internet Protocol.
Internet Protocol will deal only with packets but Transmission Control Protocols allows more than one
host to connect and exchange the data they see fit to share. Transmission Control Protocols not only
make sure that your data gets delivered but that the packets sent by you will be delivered in the order
that the user sends them.
Kerberos is the first internet security protocol to be discussed. It is a computer network authentication
protocol. This security protocol allows nodes that have to communicate through a non secure network
to prove their identities to the other user/s. It was designed mainly to be used for in client to server
situations. It is an effective model for client to server usage because it provides authentication for, and
from, both sides. Kerberos uses Symmetric key cryptography as a basis for its security. Throughout
the authentication process it could use public key cryptography instead of the Symmetric Key
Cryptography. In the AAA protocol, the A s stand for Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting.

Mix Culture Streak Plate Kitchen Lab Microbiology Essay
Introduction
The purpose of this experiment is to obtain isolation of individual species of particles from the mixed
culture. This is completed through the isolation technique of streak plate. The objective of this
experiment is to replicate the technique of streak plate but on a much larger scale. Because it is on a
larger scale the particles are able to be visually observed as they are isolated using the streaking
technique as the experiment is conducted. The benefits of the streaking technique is when a cultures
has multiple species they are able to be more easily identified once they have been isolated. This
experiment is much like the experiments completed on an agar plate but on one a much larger scale

The particles were even more narrowed down in this final streak allowing for further separation of
each individual particle. The streaking utensil was cleaned using the particle remover and returned to
the utensil storage area. And the other items collected for this lab were cleaned and returned to their
storage areas.
Results
The particles that were collected for the lab were very concentrated prior to being mixed into the
medium. Once the particles where mixed into the medium they was a decreased in their concentration
as the medium allowed for separation by filling the spaces between them. Once the first streak was
made it was slightly less concentrated and this allowed for the particles to be spread out over the
surface. The concentration of particles that were spread with each streak continued to decrease. In the
final streak, as seen in picture 7, the particles were separated almost to the point of being able to
individually identify each color of particle. Much as the same results that you might see with a mixed
culture that was completed in a lab and final results reviewed under a microscope.
Discussion
The conclusion that was made from this experiment was that as the streaking is completed the
consistency as well as the concentration degrees allowing for a more accurate identification of the
individual particles. The results lead me to this conclusion because as the streaks were completed the

diplomatic relations and free trade, in the sense that it retained their pride in their tributary systems,
such responses were in flawed in the long term. Focusing on the time period 1793 1839, this essay

More friction could be seen between the West and China with Amherst s reluctance in conforming the
kowtow ritual. Emperor Jaiqing viewed such act as an insult to the Middle Kingdom due to British
pride and arrogance, and added that no more attempts need be made to send mission to Beijing. The
Chinese emperor was further humiliated by Napier s breaking of five important regulations: did not
apply for permission to go to Guangzhou, had no customs permit to reside in the Guangzhou factory,
sent his communication to the viceroy not as humble petition from an inferior to a superior but as a
letter to an equal, the letter was in Chinese not in English, and he tried to get the letter delivered

It was a failure for the Qing in the long term for it aroused Western grievances in the Chinese system.
Such view was supported by the historian Vohra, for he argued that incidents like the Emily incident

humiliated, which gave rise to waging wars at a latter period (i.e. the Opium War).
The failure for the Chinese government to respond effectively was because of its construct that China

Future generations, this one included, will only spend more and more time on sites like these. Some
people would say that Social Media helps catch and prosecute criminals, but the few times in which
this does happen is heavily outweighed by the amount of privacy of which they lack, and the fact that
they often expose users to government and corporate intrusions. A 2012 survey found that 13 million
Facebook users said that they had not set or known about the site s privacy settings, and another 28%
shared all, or nearly all, of their posts publicly. Facebook is infamous for its lack of security, how it
forces users to stay on and use their site and secretly tracks them. They often make privacy settings
hard to find. Most, if not all, of their users would rather keep their info private, but Facebook and
other Social Networking sites often make that a hard thing to do. Another report declared that the US
Justice Department intercepted 1,661 pieces of information from social networking sites and emails in
2011. With many social media sites being money focused, they often sell their user s information to
shady organizations. These sites expose their users too much and too often. This is further supported
by the fact that the 2009 IRS training manual teaches agents to scan Facebook pages for information
that might assist in resolving a taxpayer case. Organizations such as this one now even promote social
media stalking . It s immensely difficult to stay and feel safe on

Difference Between Private And Private Sector
Introduction :
The most basic distinction between public and private organizations is that the political community
own public agencies whereas ownership of private organizations belongs to entrepreneurs or
shareholders.
However, there are many other differences between public and private organizations. The funding for
public agencies derives mostly from taxation, which contrasts with private agencies receiving funds
predominately from consumers in the form of fees. In the public sector, organizations are largely
controlled by political forces, which also results in the imposition of constraints by the political
system. Subjection to constraint results in frequent changes in policies within public organizations.
The owners and shareholders of private organizations have a direct incentive to monitor the behaviour
of managers to promote better performance and financial gain.
Summary
The development of the private sector and its expansion in all spheres of society increasingly
emphasizes the attempts to alleviate the differences between the public sector and the private sector.
The collaboration of these two areas demonstrates their interdependence and their role in the overall
functioning of the national economy and of society as a whole.
The widespread use of private sector methods and theories on organizing the management process
points to the fact that private sector ideas can be transferred and can be used in the field of civil
service. It is believed that through

But instead of being happy in the white snow, he is alone in a dark mansion. This is a theme that I
think is one that could be discussed in depth by a year 12 book club.
Another theme portrayed in Citizen Kane is the idea of materialism, and I believe this is a theme that
Year 12 Students would be able to understand and form opinions upon. In the film, Charles Kane lives
in a huge mansion filled with many expensive goods. He was an avid statue collector, a hobby only
the very wealthy could pursue. Charles Kane said in the film, They ve been making statues for some
two thousand years, and I ve only been collecting for five. The director s uses of depth of focus to
exaggerate Kane s many possessions, and in one shot near the end we can see rooms full of crates with
items he never unpacked. In his mansion, the rooms are perceived to be large, with dark shadows cast
all around. Perhaps this is a metaphor to suggest that Kane s excessive amount of materialistic
possessions have now begun to own him. This leads to a link a Year 12 group of students will be able
to make with the modern world today. Advancement of technology has skyrocketed in the past few
decades. The invention of smart phones, tablets and other household technologies have created a
culture in which it is deemed necessary to own as many of these items as possible. It would seem that

carers may feel guilty that they can t do as much as they would like. There are many ways to
overcome this. One of these is using home link books. These are books in which practitioners and
carers can exchange information, comments and ideas on a daily basis. Another way to overcome this
is with emails. Providing that all consent and security issues are considered, email exchanges can
work well. Photographs can also be exchanged as well as information so carers can send photographs
of their child at home or during an outing. A third way to overcome this barrier is phone calls. Phone
calls can be an effective substitute to face to face conversations. Another way to overcome this is
parents sessions at a range of times. Parents sessions are good for relaying information but these need
to be held at times that are convenient for carers. Another barrier to participation for carers is
confidence. Some carers may find it hard to be active in their child s care and education as they may
have had less than satisfactory interactions with other professionals. They may also feel that they do
not have anything of interest to add or that their views would not be of interest. To overcome this
barrier it is important that practitioners make parents first contact a positive one and

Picasso Vs Goya
Pablo Picasso and Francisco José de Goya were two artists that lived in completely different time
periods and painted in very different styles. Goya painted frescos and court paintings while picasso
dabbled in cubism and surrealism. However, like most artists, they both went through many changes
and transitions throughout their lives as painters, and their desire to think outside the box and
experiment with techniques that had never been used before reveal similarities in their work that may
go unnoticed at first glance. When looking at the works of Goya and Picasso, one would be much
more likely to point out differences than similarities. Goya did a lot of frescos and court paintings.
These works differ greatly from most of Picasso s paintings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Not only were they both considered modern artists, their work also took a rather unexpected turn
towards the end of their careers. Goya is considered the father of modern art. He took risks in his
paintings and decided not to paint in the classical style of the old masters from earlier centuries, and
Picasso also took many risks and painted in a very modern style. Picasso was even inspired by Goya s
work, and his painting, Massacre in Korea, was inspired by Goya s The Third of May. Not only did
they both experiment in their paintings, these artists also both went through a rough period in their
lives that had a big effect in their style of painting. Picasso s blue period reflected his sadness after his
friend s death, and all of his paintings during this time used blue and other muted colors. Goya s black
paintings, a series of fourteen pieces from his last years of life, also reflected a negative change in his
life. These paintings were much darker and more depressing than his older paintings. The disturbing
images in these paintings are thought to have been evoked from his fear of insanity and bleak outlook

Slavery In Cuba Research Paper
In history, slavery had become a part of all cultures: including Brazil, Cuba, and the United States.
Brazil and Cuba were among the first colonizations to practice the act of enslaving others to do one s
bidding. Slavery was a fundamental foundation upon which these three nation s economy was built on.
After tension, rebellions, and at times war, laws were passed to abolish the act of enslaving others.
Brazil
In the early sixteenth century, the Portuguese began to colonize in Brazil as part of an overseas
expansion plan that began along the western coast of Africa. Brazilian settlements had begun to
manage the cultivation, manufacture, and marketing of sugarcane and sugar. Native American slaves
was initially the labor foundation of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
African slaves were imported from the British Caribbean colonies to Chesapeake to work on tobacco
farms. After the 13 colonies declared independence from Britain, they drafted their constitution in
1787. The word slavery was not written. The act of enslaving someone was not legally sanctioned and
it violated the purpose of human liberty that the constitution stood for. The right to vote was also not
permitted for indigenous people, slaves, and women. After the territorial expansion from the Atlantic
to the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. became the leading force of industrial demand for raw materials such as
cotton. Unlike the North, southern agriculture had built its economy on the foundation of enslaved
labor. Slave trade to the U.S. had ended in 1808, and the northern states had abolished slavery in the
1780s, however the southern states had continued to rely on slave labor. When the Civil War broke
out, it was not on the issue of abolishing slavery as a nation, but whether or not the new states that join
should be slave free or not. Forbidding slavery in the western states would have halted any economic
growth for the southern states who depended on slavery to thrive. It would also shift the balance in
political power, arguing that slave ownership was a right protected by the constitution. When Abraham
Lincoln became president in 1861, the Confederate States of America separated themselves

Birmingham Jail Functional Theory
Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from a Birmingham Jail (1965) is important from both historical and
sociological points of view. It is an example of self sacrifice as in idea for the of equality of all people.
Formally, King addresses this letter that he wrote while in Birmingham jail at the clergymen who
opposed his protests. In fact, he applies it to everyone who approves of racism, and considers the
methods of nonviolent struggle to be too radical and far fetched from achieving an actual goal. From a
sociological point of view, the Letter from a Birmingham Jail shows the way of nonviolent adjustment
of the social conflict and stages of this way: collection of the facts to determine whether injustices

If they needed medical assistance, they couldn t go to the same hospital as whites.
Families of color were forced to bring up their children in a humiliating and insulting atmosphere. The
state and authorities, as one of social factors, supported the racism. Promises to restore justice and
equalize the rights of white and colored residents do not mean anything. Church leadership prefers to
stay aside the civil problems. Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from a Birmingham Jail clearly shows
that the church acts in a cowardly manner concerning the issue of racism, supporting the state law, but
not the moral one, which claims that all men are brothers. The elements of society do not function in
harmony. As a result, the social conflict arises affecting the outlook and symbolic perception of
people. Modern society supports King s ideas and considers him to be a national hero. However, he
often found misunderstanding among his contemporaries: King s nonviolence played into the hands of
segregationists (Mott 411).
Peace and brotherhood cannot be achieved through aggression, so King chose the strategy of
nonviolent direct action. A sense of injustice, sympathy to his friends, family and even strangers
encouraged King to start nonviolent direct action. The importance was that King fought not only for
the rights of people of color, but also for the rights of all the exploited people. It shows his
understanding and love for

Rosalind Franklin Contributions
You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something
apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence.
But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Said Rosalind Franklin, one of the
greatest female scientists, in a letter to her father. Franklin is saying that science should not be
interfered by human civilization, but human civilization needs and relies on science. This is significant
because Franklin discovered so much for the human race through science, hence what she said,
science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Though many might not recognize her
name, Rosalind Franklin changed the world of biology forever. Born on July 25, 1920 in Notting Hill,
London, to a family that was jewish, but she believed in no such thing. Rosalind Franklin was a very
intelligent child; she excelled in school always ahed of where she was supposed to be. By the time
Franklin was fifteen she already knew she wanted to be a scientist. She was taught at North London
Collegiate school and went to college at Newnham Collage where she studied chemistry. Moving on,
Rosalind Franklin, was best know for discovering the structure of DNA, but what most do not know
she was did much more. For example, she studied coal utilization, and x ray diffraction. She actually
was the teacher and mentor for Raymond Gosling who created the first visible x ray photo. With

Broken bones are a common injury; an average of 6 million people in the United States will break a
bone each year ( Physical Fields ). Unfortunately, I was one of those people. It was Wednesday,
August 19th, 2009, the first night of my fifth grade year. I was so nervous, but thrilled to continue
attending school at Ridgeview Elementary School. Little did I know I would be out of school for two
weeks and come back with a bright pink cast covering my left arm. I had just received my brand new
pink bike and wanted to go on a steamy evening cruise. I already knew how to ... Show more content

I was going so fast that I lost all control of my bike and could not come to a complete stop. I flipped
over the handlebars on my bike and heard my left wrist snap like a branch. It was one of the most
frightful sounds that I have ever heard. I can still remember the brutal, ear wrenching sound to this
day. Thankfully, my neighbors were outside and they saw me fall onto the hard, rough cement. I was
in so much pain, so I laid there on the ground with gruesome scrapes and bruises thinking, God please
help me. My face turned as red as a fire hydrant, while I balled my eyes out. As soon as I looked down
at my wrist I kept telling myself this isn t broken, this can not be happening. While my worried
looking neighbor was walking my bike back to my house, I was slowly walking with him and Carson.
Carson immediately ran into the house screaming, HELP! My parents came running out to see what
problem existed. My neighbor made sure that my parents were aware of everything that happened and
eventually left after being truly appreciated by them. I weakly walked into my house then, sat on my
bed while still crying profusely. The tears of pain and fear did not stop for a long time. I kept telling
my family that I wanted to go to my friend Nikki s house because her mom is a nurse. I trusted her
with my whole heart and wanted to get her perspective on my wrist. Finally, my parents drove us to
Nikki s house. Her mom, said with

The equipment needed to measure this is a 1 meter long ruler and a calculator. The person to be tested stands near the edge of a table, resting their elbow on the table so that their wrist is extended over the side. The assessor holds the ruler vertically in the air between the index finger and thumb of the subject, but not touching. The zero mark should be lined by to the finger and thumb. The subject should indicate that they are ready to the assessor. Without warning, release the ruler and let it drop the subject must catch it as quickly as possible as soon as they see it fall. The positives of this test are that it is very simplistic and can be conducted at any given time, with a very small amount of equipment needed for this to be set up. Also, this test would not take long to carry out. However, an assistant is always needed as the ruler would need to be dropped by another person, so the action would be sudden to make the results valid, and this test is not very valid as it can be seen as too simplistic to accurately calculate the reaction time of an individual. My result:7.4cm After completing this test, my result showed that I had an excellent reaction towards a stimulus, and would be very suitable for sports that would require me to react quickly, for example baseball would be a suitable sport for me as I could react quickly when batting as once the ball has been bowled, I would only have a short period of time to bat without getting a strike. if I began to play baseball, and trained regularly I would be able to maintain a score that would stay in the excellent category. However, if I did not train in this specific area, these results would decrease if this test was taken ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The European Court Of Justice Introduction Although the European Court of Justice (ECJ) continues to insist that national procedural autonomy remains a key consideration, its case law shows that this principle has enjoyed a varying amount of deference through the decades. Although the principle of equivalence is tolerably clear, setting out clear requirements that can be easily fulfilled by national legal orders, effectiveness has had a much more chequered history. Francovich also represents a further incursion on the procedural autonomy of Member States. This essay will argue that the ECJ s shifting attitudes over the years ranging from relative deference to activism ultimately spring from non legal considerations, particularly political necessity and a desire to preserve the EC s core competencies; such political considerations also explain why there has never been generally applicable legislation that harmonises national remedies. Starting point: national procedural autonomy? It is true that the ECJ has outlined the importance of national procedural autonomy in its judgments over the years. In Comet, it held that it was for each Member State s national legal order to lay down the procedural rules for proceedings designed to ensure the protection of [EU] rights . Three decades later, this exhortation was repeated in Unibet, where the Court thought the EC Treaty was not intended to create new remedies in the national law... other than those already laid down by national law . • 7. How Does Hector Criticize The Greek Honor System Homer s Critique on the Greek Honor System in The Iliad The Iliad, a great epic poem written by Homer, illustrates the honor system valued deeply by the Greeks and Trojans. Though Homer uses Hector as a voice piece for the honor system, he presents Hector and other characters as heroes that conflict with the code itself. Through Hector s conversation with Paris, we identify the three main components that codes the honor system. In other great epic poems, great heroes appear to possess and suffice the components. Yet, Homer chooses to do the exact opposite. In The Iliad, the heroes , such as, Paris, Diomedes, and Hector himself, conflict with the codes. Homer criticizes the Greek honor system by contradicting the system through these conflicted heroes. Through Hector, Homer points out the transfer of glory between enemies through battle as one of the main components in the honor system. Hector expresses this particular concept through his conversation with Paris. From Hector s use of verbal irony, we can see he expects and believes that only through fighting a final heroic battle head on will bring honor; thus, it must be obeyed. The Debate On Marriage And Parenting Rights For Gay And The debate on marriage and parenting rights for gay and lesbian individuals has been one of the most hotly contested social issues in recent history. While many arguments are cited to prevent gay couples from enjoying equality, these arguments ultimately condense to concerns rooted in homophobia. Opponents of the LGBT community contend that same sex parenting contradicts the natural order of the world, subjects children to unnecessary societal stigma, and that the state has a right to favor heterosexual norms. However, these concerns are either unfounded or unjustly infringe on the rights of gay and lesbian couples. Therefore, it is unjust to use the same argument to prevent gay couples from adopting. Skeptics of gay and lesbian parents also raise the concern that the children of same sex couples would be subject to stigma from society. They argue that gay parents should not be granted custody rights because their children would be subject to unnecessary ridicule by their peers. In short, their position is that children should not be placed into harsh conditions simply due to their parents sexual behavior. While the well being of the child is an important concern in custody matters, stigma that exists within society must not be written into law. Bigotry is an unfortunate component of human nature, and it will likely never be erased completely. The law cannot control these biases, but it should not be influenced by the fleeting passions of the time. If the law gives biases that exist within society legitimacy, they will merely be reinforced for generations. Furthermore, a primary purpose of law is to serve as a guardian of the minority rights. Basic rights must be enshrined in law so that they are insulated from tyrannical majorities that might act with malice toward a minority group. Preventing gay couples from adopting because society holds a bias against them unjustly sacrifices a crucial liberty for homosexuals. When her children are finally safely in the North and Jacobs is able to flee the south in search of them, her main concern was to find employment and being able to provide for them, she told her daughter Ellis I had laid up a hundred dollars and before long I hoped to be able to give her and Benjamin a home, and send them to school. A woman supporting her children, with no man as head of the household was not viewed as domestic; she was degraded for not marrying and having children out of wedlock. Jacobs gives a new definition of domestic, it may have been too futuristic to people of her era, but today a domestic person is devoted to home life or household affairs. In the 1820s, with the rise of expansion and agriculture in the South, slavery increased in America. During the Antebellum period, slavery continued to be a controversial issue dividing the North and the South and driving the diverging developments of the nation. With additional expansion in the 1840s, the question of expansion of slavery again raised sectional tensions and Northern radicals called for abolition while Southern radicals, or fireeaters, called for secession from the Union. Lincoln s original position on allowing slavery changed over the course of his presidency, and by the 1860s, Lincoln aligned himself with the abolitionists, calling for the immediate abolition of slavery. After the Battle of Antietam, on September 22, 1862, Lincoln announced his decision to abolish slavery in the states that claimed secession, and on January 1, 1863, Lincoln formally signed the Emancipation Proclamation. With this law, all slaves in the Confederacy were freed, and later those in the Border States and Union states were also freed with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accepting Porn: Since the accidental discovery of the first pornography at Pompii in 1592 porn has had a bad reputation. It is a Victorian word first defined by Webster as Licentious painting or literature . From its very beginning pornography was outlawed and banned from the public. In the beginning of the 20th century one could be jailed for even viewing a stag film. This may of hurt the quality of porn but it the principal of supply and demand stayed intact, and there was always an overwhelming demand. The way that demand has been supplied has changed drastically throughout the 20th century. Porn went from socially unacceptable to a social phenomenon. Public opinion, slowly, overturned government rule. The main reason porn became more acceptable was because masturbation became more socially acceptable (Paul, 2005). In the early 1900 s we see masturbation as an act someone took shame in, because it meant that person didn t have anyone to have sex with. In modern times masturbation is said to be healthy by health care professionals and although it is not spoken of often, it is accepted. Many teens in relationships view social media as a place where they can feel more connected with the daily events in there significant other s life, share emotional connections, and let their significant other know they care (Lenhart, Anderson, and Smith). Before the French Revolution, the king was able to enact any laws without any opposition from any other executive power and the majority of the population (lower class) was negatively affected. This initiative has been successful in several areas to include: the creation of National Intelligence Managers (NIM) for all primary geographic regions and functional areas; enhanced transparency; and the focus on the negative impacts of over classifying documents. However, not all efforts to integrate the intelligence community (IC) have been successful. For instance, the ODNI did not succeed at creating a comprehensive sharing environment, and has not fully integrated federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies. Although, these failed areas of integration can be mitigated in the future through the appropriate initiatives taken by the ODNI. The creation of NIMs for all primary geographic regions and functional areas paid astronomical dividends to IC integration efforts. Placing one individual in charge of a geographic region or functional area allowed for a united effort across the IC for each particular problem set. Additionally, this broke down the collection and analysis barriers, because it unified personnel, causing them to realize the common objective instead of competing against one another. Transmission Control Protocols not only make sure that your data gets delivered but that the packets sent by you will be delivered in the order that the user sends them. Kerberos is the first internet security protocol to be discussed. It is a computer network authentication protocol. This security protocol allows nodes that have to communicate through a non secure network to prove their identities to the other user/s. It was designed mainly to be used for in client to server situations. It is an effective model for client to server usage because it provides authentication for, and from, both sides. A 2012 survey found that 13 million Facebook users said that they had not set or known about the site s privacy settings, and another 28% shared all, or nearly all, of their posts publicly. Difference Between Private And Private Sector Introduction : The most basic distinction between public and private organizations is that the political community own public agencies whereas ownership of private organizations belongs to entrepreneurs or shareholders. However, there are many other differences between public and private organizations. The funding for public agencies derives mostly from taxation, which contrasts with private agencies receiving funds predominately from consumers in the form of fees. In the public sector, organizations are largely controlled by political forces, which also results in the imposition of constraints by the political system. Subjection to constraint results in frequent changes in policies within public organizations. The owners and shareholders of private organizations have a direct incentive to monitor the behaviour of managers to promote better performance and financial gain. Summary The development of the private sector and its expansion in all spheres of society increasingly emphasizes the attempts to alleviate the differences between the public sector and the private sector. The collaboration of these two areas demonstrates their interdependence and their role in the overall functioning of the national economy and of society as a whole. • 39. A Brief Note On The Barrier Of Participation For Carers One barrier to participation for carers is time. Some carers may be short on time and therefore want to spend time with their child rather than talking about them. This needs to be dealt with sensitively as carers may feel guilty that they can t do as much as they would like. There are many ways to overcome this. One of these is using home link books. These are books in which practitioners and carers can exchange information, comments and ideas on a daily basis. Another way to overcome this is with emails. Providing that all consent and security issues are considered, email exchanges can work well. Photographs can also be exchanged as well as information so carers can send photographs of their child at home or during an outing. A third way to overcome this barrier is phone calls. Phone calls can be an effective substitute to face to face conversations. Another way to overcome this is parents sessions at a range of times. Parents sessions are good for relaying information but these need to be held at times that are convenient for carers. Another barrier to participation for carers is confidence. Some carers may find it hard to be active in their child s care and education as they may have had less than satisfactory interactions with other professionals. They may also feel that they do not have anything of interest to add or that their views would not be of interest. To overcome this barrier it is important that practitioners make parents first contact a positive one and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Picasso Vs Goya Pablo Picasso and Francisco José de Goya were two artists that lived in completely different time periods and painted in very different styles. Goya painted frescos and court paintings while picasso dabbled in cubism and surrealism. However, like most artists, they both went through many changes and transitions throughout their lives as painters, and their desire to think outside the box and experiment with techniques that had never been used before reveal similarities in their work that may go unnoticed at first glance. When looking at the works of Goya and Picasso, one would be much more likely to point out differences than similarities. Goya did a lot of frescos and court paintings. These works differ greatly from most of Picasso s paintings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only were they both considered modern artists, their work also took a rather unexpected turn towards the end of their careers. Goya is considered the father of modern art. He took risks in his paintings and decided not to paint in the classical style of the old masters from earlier centuries, and Picasso also took many risks and painted in a very modern style. Picasso was even inspired by Goya s work, and his painting, Massacre in Korea, was inspired by Goya s The Third of May. Not only did they both experiment in their paintings, these artists also both went through a rough period in their lives that had a big effect in their style of painting. Picasso s blue period reflected his sadness after his friend s death, and all of his paintings during this time used blue and other muted colors. Goya s black paintings, a series of fourteen pieces from his last years of life, also reflected a negative change in his life. These paintings were much darker and more depressing than his older paintings. The disturbing images in these paintings are thought to have been evoked from his fear of insanity and bleak outlook on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Slavery In Cuba Research Paper In history, slavery had become a part of all cultures: including Brazil, Cuba, and the United States. Brazil and Cuba were among the first colonizations to practice the act of enslaving others to do one s bidding. Slavery was a fundamental foundation upon which these three nation s economy was built on. After tension, rebellions, and at times war, laws were passed to abolish the act of enslaving others. Brazil In the early sixteenth century, the Portuguese began to colonize in Brazil as part of an overseas expansion plan that began along the western coast of Africa. Brazilian settlements had begun to manage the cultivation, manufacture, and marketing of sugarcane and sugar. Native American slaves was initially the labor foundation of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... African slaves were imported from the British Caribbean colonies to Chesapeake to work on tobacco farms. After the 13 colonies declared independence from Britain, they drafted their constitution in 1787. The word slavery was not written. The act of enslaving someone was not legally sanctioned and it violated the purpose of human liberty that the constitution stood for. The right to vote was also not permitted for indigenous people, slaves, and women. After the territorial expansion from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, the U.S. became the leading force of industrial demand for raw materials such as cotton. Unlike the North, southern agriculture had built its economy on the foundation of enslaved labor. Slave trade to the U.S. had ended in 1808, and the northern states had abolished slavery in the 1780s, however the southern states had continued to rely on slave labor. When the Civil War broke out, it was not on the issue of abolishing slavery as a nation, but whether or not the new states that join should be slave free or not. Forbidding slavery in the western states would have halted any economic growth for the southern states who depended on slavery to thrive. It would also shift the balance in political power, arguing that slave ownership was a right protected by the constitution. • 42. Birmingham Jail Functional Theory Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from a Birmingham Jail (1965) is important from both historical and sociological points of view. It is an example of self sacrifice as in idea for the of equality of all people. Formally, King addresses this letter that he wrote while in Birmingham jail at the clergymen who opposed his protests. In fact, he applies it to everyone who approves of racism, and considers the methods of nonviolent struggle to be too radical and far fetched from achieving an actual goal. From a sociological point of view, the Letter from a Birmingham Jail shows the way of nonviolent adjustment of the social conflict and stages of this way: collection of the facts to determine whether injustices exist negotiation; ... Families of color were forced to bring up their children in a humiliating and insulting atmosphere. The state and authorities, as one of social factors, supported the racism. Promises to restore justice and equalize the rights of white and colored residents do not mean anything. Church leadership prefers to stay aside the civil problems. Martin Luther King Jr. s Letter from a Birmingham Jail clearly shows that the church acts in a cowardly manner concerning the issue of racism, supporting the state law, but not the moral one, which claims that all men are brothers. The elements of society do not function in harmony. As a result, the social conflict arises affecting the outlook and symbolic perception of people. Modern society supports King s ideas and considers him to be a national hero. However, he often found misunderstanding among his contemporaries: King s nonviolence played into the hands of segregationists (Mott 411). Peace and brotherhood cannot be achieved through aggression, so King chose the strategy of nonviolent direct action. A sense of injustice, sympathy to his friends, family and even strangers encouraged King to start nonviolent direct action. The importance was that King fought not only for the rights of people of color, but also for the rights of all the exploited people. It shows his understanding and love for ... • 43. Rosalind Franklin Contributions You look at science (or at least talk of it) as some sort of demoralizing invention of man, something apart from real life, and which must be cautiously guarded and kept separate from everyday existence. But science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Said Rosalind Franklin, one of the greatest female scientists, in a letter to her father. Franklin is saying that science should not be interfered by human civilization, but human civilization needs and relies on science. This is significant because Franklin discovered so much for the human race through science, hence what she said, science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. Though many might not recognize her name, Rosalind Franklin changed the world of biology forever. Born on July 25, 1920 in Notting Hill, London, to a family that was jewish, but she believed in no such thing. Rosalind Franklin was a very intelligent child; she excelled in school always ahed of where she was supposed to be. By the time Franklin was fifteen she already knew she wanted to be a scientist. She was taught at North London Collegiate school and went to college at Newnham Collage where she studied chemistry. Moving on, Rosalind Franklin, was best know for discovering the structure of DNA, but what most do not know she was did much more. For example, she studied coal utilization, and x ray diffraction. She actually was the teacher and mentor for Raymond Gosling who created the first visible x ray photo. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately, I was one of those people. It was Wednesday, August 19th, 2009, the first night of my fifth grade year. I was so nervous, but thrilled to continue attending school at Ridgeview Elementary School. I was going so fast that I lost all control of my bike and could not come to a complete stop. I flipped over the handlebars on my bike and heard my left wrist snap like a branch. It was one of the most frightful sounds that I have ever heard. I can still remember the brutal, ear wrenching sound to this day. Thankfully, my neighbors were outside and they saw me fall onto the hard, rough cement. I was in so much pain, so I laid there on the ground with gruesome scrapes and bruises thinking, God please help me. My face turned as red as a fire hydrant, while I balled my eyes out. As soon as I looked down at my wrist I kept telling myself this isn t broken, this can not be happening. While my worried looking neighbor was walking my bike back to my house, I was slowly walking with him and Carson. Carson immediately ran into the house screaming, HELP! My parents came running out to see what problem existed. My neighbor made sure that my parents were aware of everything that happened and eventually left after being truly appreciated by them. I weakly walked into my house then, sat on my bed while still crying profusely. The tears of pain and fear did not stop for a long time. I kept telling my family that I wanted to go to my friend Nikki s house because her mom is a nurse. I trusted her with my whole heart and wanted to get her perspective on my wrist. Finally, my parents drove us to Nikki s house. Her mom, said with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
