Laboratory Of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning...
Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM), also known as
the Mizumori lab, seeks to understand the plasticity mechanisms within neural systems that underlie
normal and pathological mnemonic functions. The principal investigator of this lab, and my primary
research mentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon joining the Mizumori lab, I have been shadowing Dr.
Phillip Baker on his postdoctoral research project. He introduced me to laboratory research study and
facilitated in the progressive improvement of my comprehension in basic neuroscience research.
The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb)
involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified for its
role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al, 2014). It
projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are acknowledged to be
important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten, 2009; Lecourtier and Kelly,
2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and training rats, recording of rat
behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around the T maze controlled by z basic, and
evaluating data from training and testing rats in a tonal task. I also had an opportunity to contribute to
the paper in accordance with my responsibilities. Furthermore, I had a chance to partake in the

The Use of Manipulation; One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
The Use of Manipulation: One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest
Throughout Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, the use of manipulation is a re
occurring motif. Manipulation is defined as shrewd of devious management. Manipulation is put into
context by how the character s use it. The first character to master it is the antagonist Nurse Ratchet.
She uses it to manipulate patients to manage her mechanically structured ward. The other character is
the (antagonist, protagonist?) patient McMurphy. He on the other hand manipulates people to help
them grow or gain money. These two characters also go head to head with the power of deceptive
manipulation as their weapons.
Nurse Ratchet is the boss of the ward, in which the events of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If someone hears something interesting about another patient in the log book, the patient puts down
what he heard and signs his name, and the next day he gets to sleep in. The effectiveness of the log
book is evident here, through this passage, Am I to take it that there s not a man among you that has
committed some act that he has never admitted? She reached in the basket for the log book. Must we
go over the past history? That triggered something, some acoustic device in the walls, rigged to turn
on at just the sound of those words coming from her mouth. The acutes stiffened. Their mouths
opened in unison. Her sweeping eyes stopped on the first man along the wall. His mouth worked, I
robbed a cash register in a service station. She moved to the next man. I tried to take my little sister to
bed. Her eyes clicked to the next man, each one jumped like a shooting gallery target. I one time
wanted to take my brother to bed. I killed my cat when I was six. Oh, god, forgive me, I stoned her to
death and said my neighbor did it. (45) The reader can clearly see this is one of her methods of
manipulation, for she uses it to oppress the patients and keep them down, and in need of more help .
The shock shop and lobotomy are are closely related punishment. The nurse sends patients to the
shock shop, if they are being bad , or hostile. Upon further acts of retaliation , she sends the patient to
lobotomy, where a surgery is performed in which a part of the brain is cut

Pingo Family Plan
When a loved one enters a halfway house or an addiction rehab, most family members and friends
find difficulties in maintaining relationships. It is a very intense moment for the patient, and a lot of
energy is focused on recovery from drug(s) addiction. Communication plays a role in the recovery
process. It portrays love and support to the patient . Most people nowadays communicate through
phone calls. They are way cheaper and are easier to use. Phone calls help patients to keep in touch
with their friends and families, and connect to the outside world. This is where Pingo comes in. Pingo
is a service of iBasis, which is owned by KPN; a mobile and telecommunications company that caters

Security Dillemma Ethnic Conflict Essay
The security dilemma can be used explain and predict ethnic conflict within a given state. Posen s
argument is supported by the belief that the basic tenets of realism provide a clear view of the security
dilemma and its relationship with ethnic conflict. I believe the security dilemma in general is largely
based in realist theory, and therefore fails to view international relations fairly. I believe that liberalism
offers important insight into dealing with conflict that Posen fails to address.
Realist theory believes that one states military improvements are undistinguishable as offensive or
defensive, and are seen as threats to another state. This, in turn, requires the opposing state to improve

Cooperation can occur between groups, if they can see the security it will provide. Mutual agreements
can be reached by ethnic groups to cooperate prior to conflict, which can secure their self interest.
Posen feels agreements are often reached after conflicts have already began with cease fires. He also
contends a cease fire only occurs when one side feels successful and the opposing side fears the result
of continued conflict. Posen argues that a cease fire does not mean peace, and often comes too far
along in the conflict, proving international organizations are unable to diminish the security dilemma.
This idea further presupposes the ideas of realist. Realist are traditionally skeptical of the ability of
international organizations to act as planned. Realist feel that states will not place their self interest the
hands of other countries.
I contend that international organizations can play a major role in ameliorating conflict between ethnic
groups. If an international organization, acting as a mediating third party, can take steps to clear
misperceptions between competing groups, conflict can be avoided. Also international organizations
provide other countries the opportunity to take collective action.
Posen argues that strong group identity and military power are viewed always as threats by

Aldosterone and Hormone Replacement Therapy and Renal...
Aldosterone and Hormone Replacement Therapy
Aldosterone falls in the class of hormone called mineralocorticoids, produces by the adrenal glands
and is found near the kidneys. It sustains blood pressure, water and salt balance within the body. This
procedure is assisting the kidneys to preserve sodium and excrete potassium in order to maintain a
balance. If Aldosterone production falls, there isn t enough regulation of salt and water balance (as
aldosterone is being lost through urination) triggering blood pressure and blood volume to decline as a
result of the kidneys not functioning properly. If body is in need of salt, water is not retained and
adrenals release more Aldosterone and salt is reabsorbed from the tubule.

Women who fall pregnant and suffer from Addison s disease may need to also alter their medications
depending on the individual. During delivery of the baby, similar treatment is applied as to surgery
and after there is monitoring of what the dosage requirements need to change to.
In having the hormone replacement therapy, there are long term and short term benefits. In the long
term estrogen levels will be higher than average reducing vaginal dryness and urethritis. Preventions
of fractures, heart disease, colon cancer, or dementia and most commonly reduce breast and uterine
cancer.
The prognosis for people with Addison s disease can be uncertain. If untreated, it will be fatal, if
diagnosed it requires a lifelong treatment. In some cases there is an increased chance of a premature
death . In most cases, with hormone replacement therapy, most people with Addison s disease are able
to live normal lives.

The Mechanism of Negative Feedback Essay
The Mechanism of Negative Feedback
Homeostasis means beatified sex. It is an ability of an organism to control its internal environment,
that is the composition of their body fluids, for them to survive fluctuating external conditions.
Homeostasis is used to describe all the mechanisms by homeostatic control. Maintenance of stability
requires control systems capable of detecting any deviation from the usual and making the necessary
adjustments to return it to its normal condition. The internal environment can by controlled by
hormones. Hormones are chemical substances secreted into bloodstream by glands of the endocrine
system. In humans, more than a dozen tissues and organs produce hormones. ... Show more content on

They all have an output, an example being such as the internal factor such as blood temperature. The
output is controlled, and a set point (also called normal or reference point). In physiological process,
the set point is usually determined genetically and is the optimal physiological state for the output.
Control mechanism also has detectors (sensory receptor in physiological systems) to monitor actual
output. A comparator (sometimes called a regulator in physiological system), compares actual output
with set point. It produces some sort of error signal, which converys information to the corrective
mechanism about the difference between set point and actual output. In physiological systems, error
signal is usually in form of nerve impulses or hormones, and corrective mechanism may include one
or more effectors which restore the output to its set point. In some physiological processes separate
but coordinated mechanisms control deviation in different directions from the set point, an example
being the rise of fall of temperature, which gives a greater degree of control. The corrective
mechanism is the key component of homeostatic control. Homeostasis is a

Individuality In Daisy Miller And The Love Song Of J....
Individualism in Daisy Miller and Prufrock The two stories Daisy Miller: A Study by Henry James
and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Eliot both express individuality. While Daisy Miller:
A Study is a realistic short story and The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is a modernist poem they
convey individuality differently. While the title character in Daisy Miller embraces her individuality
by not caring what people think of her, Prufrock is insecure and questions who he is and how people
will perceive him. Both characters have detailed traits that express who they are. Daisy appears very
confident, outspoken, and has a vivacious personality. On the other hand, Prufrock starts off with an

However, Daisy starts up a little argument with him. The narrator states, She opened fire upon the
mysterious charmer in Geneva (James 113). Daisy and Winterbourne had only known each other for a
few days, so Daisy had no reason to question Winterbourne s intentions. Through her argument with
Winterbourne, Daisy shows herself as being quick tempered, needy, and jealous. During the same
argument Daisy states, I don t want you to come for your aunt... I want you to come for me (James
113). Daisy s desire to be the center of Winterbourne s attention makes her jealous of another woman,
even if that woman is his relative. She wants to be the only reason Winterbourne goes to Rome. While
Daisy is an attention craver, Prufrock is the exact opposite and does not want any attention on him.
Prufrock states: And I have known the eyes already, known them all The eyes that fix you in a
formulated phrase, And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, When I am pinned and wriggling
on the wall, Then how should I begin (Eliot 582). Prufrock describes how he feels when all the
attention is on him. He feels as if he is on display and believes people will analyze and scrutinize
everything about him. He then questions how he should begin a conversation, believing he will be
judged. Before Prufrock goes down the stairs, he also states: With a bald spot in the middle of my hair

Uber Ethical Issues
Ethics Issues: Uber is a great company that provides a variety of services. However, in providing a
vast service Uber has encounter many ethical issues. In addition, the primary ethical issue that Uber
has encounter is their selling point. Furthermore, Uber selling point consists of Uber drivers being
informed promptly of an individual desire to obtain a ride. The issue that has risen from this is the fact
that the Uber driver must be log in on the app and the app must be open for both services to be
provided at an optimal level. However, according to Bruce Weinstein an expert that strongly believes
that drivers are putting their selves at a higher risk of being involved in an automobile accident. In
addition, many experts have expressed similar concerns as Weinstein did. In addition, according to
American Automobile Association s Foundation for Traffic Safety and the Virginia Tech
Transportation Institute taking their eyes off the road is deadly for drivers and nearby individuals .
Due to the fact, when a driver eyes are not on the road and sudden change in traffic occurs, the driver
could be involved in accident. Furthermore, Uber is experiencing a secondary major ethical issue that
involves passenger s unethical experiences. Recently, according to Farhad Manjoo a few Uber drivers
have been blamed for sexually attacking traveler . In addition, this allegations against Uber make
individuals inquire about Ubers driver background credibility. However, Uber does not have set

The business media will have a lot of speculations and this can lead to questions and concerns from
both employees and shareholders. To manage the communication with stakeholder group individually,
it is necessary for the company to get ahead of the media s speculation and legal obligations for us to
disclose this development.
First, we will need to address employees through their direct supervisors. It will be most effective to
send an email on Monday to notify supervisors of a meeting that week, on Wednesday, which will be
done via teleconference. During this meeting, the VP of human resources, the PR team, as well as the
CEO will all be present to address concerns. The CEO will announce the merger that will take place,
and that this will allow the company to expand with its products and services. Unfortunately, this
merger requires the company to consolidate departments and change job descriptions for many
positions, which means many jobs will be eliminated from both companies. After her announcement,
the VP of HR will provide the resources available for all employees, which include: a 24 hour HR
hotline and a severance package for all employees who continue to work after this news.

Analysis Of Firstlife
Firstlife is a fantasy novel similar to our world where there are two after life s: two heavens and one
hell. Gena Showalter has built a world which lets her show us a side to the human mind which we don
t look at very often. This twisting and turning plot shows how quickly a person s point of view can
change when we learn something we didn t know before. Characters are stuck in a world where there
next life will be decided on which heaven they chose sign their allegiance to, and they are polar
opposites of each others. Since this is a fantasy world there are some big differences with it from the
one we live in currently. While it has its similarities there are some major differences with it and ours.
Starting with the biggest difference there are three after lifes: the Troika realm, the Myriad realm and
the Realm of Many Ends. Currently people today have no idea what happens when we die. Many
religions have many different ways that our lives end. These versions are some variation on hell and
heaven to varying degrees, others believe there is nothing or that our spirits haunt the world of the
living. In Firstlife, the first realm that people can go to is Troika. This is a realm where the sun never
stops shining. This realm is devoted to helping others and bringing truth to the unknowing. Valuing the
human s life and the right to choose, even if it means that they will be harmed by this choice. Humans
who chose to sing with them are offered the same as the next person, no exceptions. They create
family with each new member added to their rank. There motto being Light Brings Sight! (9). Myriad
on the other hand is almost the exact opposite. This is a realm where the night never comes to a stop.
When they aren t indulging themselves the work hard to accomplish what task they are give. While
Troika give a set deal for everyone no matter who you are, Myriad are willing to talk to see what they
can offer you in the first life as well as the afterlife. The more you want the more you can get because
to them, Might Equals Right! (17). The Realm of Many Ends was a realm originally created for
criminals but eventually became the place where those who are unsigned went. This realm is basically

Social Interview Model
The other day, I stumbled across an interview with a plus sized model on TV. Her name was Tess
Munster and she has become famous for becoming the first size 22 model to sign with a major
modeling agency. Not personally being a fan of the modeling/celebrity world, my excitement was not
very high when I heard this; but she is happy with what she is doing, so congratulations to her. The
interviewer started out by talking about the backlash and negative comments she has received from the
internet about being overweight and a model. (I, personally, have to question the quality of life a
person has who spends most of their spare time on the internet trolling others just to try to make them
feel bad). Munster, during her interview, gave the impression of someone who has come to embrace
the body she has and is very happy with her life. There was one comment that struck a chord with me,
however. The interviewer asked Munster about her thoughts about the health risk factors associated
with excessive weight gain. Munster replied that you do not know what conditions an individual is
going through and health should be a personal issue which does not need to be shared with the public.

harder for answers to that question. Now I am not able to speculate on how healthy or unhealthy of a
lifestyle she may lead, but unfortunately, an individual s personal health has more of an effect on

At 9:40 pm on February 15 1898 a massive explosion rocked the Maine, soon after there was a second
one. The Maine sunk almost immediately. Unfortunately the explosions happened in the front of the
ship close to the living quarters of the men. Out of the 354 men on board 266 died from the blasts.
Many others were injured terribly. The Americans were furious that an American ship and its men
were destroyed. They were outraged that the hated Spanish could do such a thing. The angry
Americans demanded that McKinley stop the negotiations and avenge the Maine. One of the angry

the words that they shared is what filled their bond as friends. As Amir and Hassan s relationship
grew, so did the pomegranate tree because the tree was given plenty of nutrients by the healthy soil.
The boy s relationship also grew by the nutrients provided by the stories. This motif is used differently
in this part of the novel because it is the building, and unchanging evidence of their friendship, Amir
and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul, they once carved into the pomegranate tree (pg. 27). I believe that
this was the moment when the boy s relationship became parallel to the life of the pomegranate tree.
This was the moment when the motif was proven evident to their friendship, and the sustainability of
it, and the health of the tree. Amir and Hassan s friendship is flourishing as they share the stories told
by Amir. Their relationship was spiritual in the way that they never fought, but kept their hands to one

Defense In Football
Every Defense in football is different, but there are some parallels no matter how unique a defense is.
Every defense has a defensive front, different coverages, unique blitzes, and they all have the same
positions. Defense is what gives a team an edge. It is the difference in a good team and a great team. A
good defense keeps the opposing team s offense off of the field, limiting their chances to score. While
doing so, they are increasing their chances to score by keeping their team s offense on the field as
much as possible.
The foundation of every defense is the defensive front. The front refers to where each position is when
lined up. The seven most common fronts are the 4 3, the 3 4, the 4 4, the 5 2, the 5 3, the 6 2, the Goal

NFL today. The 1980 s is when the short passing game started to become very popular among the
upper levels of football. Before this, football was all about power, ball control offenses. As a result,
that is what defenses were used to defending. As short precision passing offenses became more and
more popular, defenses need an answer to stop these offenses. The answer was the zone blitz. The
zone blitz allows five men to rush the quarter back, attempting to disrupt the quarterback. If that fails,
the defense still has six men in coverage. The zone blitz is still very popular in the NFL

This booklet intends to inform the public on modern slavery in Britain. The main points of focus will
be to outline the implications of modern slavery, the current law prohibiting slavery and whether it can
be prevented in Britain. Human trafficking is one of the most common forms of slavery and will

Analysis Of In The Time Of The Butterflies
Reading through the intrepid journeys of this novel, we come to learn about each of the four Mirabal
sisters, along with their attitude and actions towards their merciless leader. In Julia Alvarez s In The
Time of the Butterflies, readers are introduced to four sisters living under the dictatorship of Rafael
Trujillo, the head of the Dominican Republic. All sisters harbor an intense hatred for the state, but
among them, two sisters in particular bear stronger differences than the others Minerva and Dede.
Minerva is an adamant character whom delves deeper into the secrets of Trujillo and the coming
revolution, whereas Dede s character shies away and lingers in the back. While Minerva and Dede
both long to see the corrupt regime overthrown, it is only Minerva who jumps into action to oppose
the state. Minerva, the most resilient sister, uses her audacity, combined with a desire for equality, to
express her opinions and challenge the state, while Dede s reserved and wary self leads her to remain
hesitant in public. When time comes for Minerva to attend one of the many grand parties of Trujillo,
the lustful leader decides that she must belong to him, and makes an effort to entice her through
conversations of keeping her beloved university open. Expectedly, Minerva is not in the least swayed
by Trujillo s persuasion, and when he physically forces himself on her in pursuit of her consent to stay,
she raises her hand in defense, and as if it had a mind on its own [came] down

What Is The Theme Of The Snowpiercer
Snowpiercer is a post apocalyptic science fiction directed by Bong Joon Ho. Based on the french
graphic novel Le Transperceneige ¬ by Jacques Lob and Jean Marc Rochette, this movie was released
in 2013. The story is set in AD 2031 after an apocalyptic ice age struck the planet forcing the
remaining human race to find a new home in the Snowpiercer, a globe spanning supertrain. With the
rich living comfortable lives in the front of the train and the lower class surviving like rats in the tail
section a defined class system is set. One man from the tail, Curtis, is determined to destroy this unjust
streatment of the poor and bring down this system that has define the lives of many.
In his lateral journey to the front to confront the creator of the train and its system , Wilson, Curtis

As mentioned above, it is clearly define by the living conditions of the people withing their separate
section, the tail being the poor, the middle where the middle class in society lived and the front where
the affluent and powerful lived comfortable lives. Another theme tackled in this film is the limitations
of revolutions as we see in the news daily, most of which only aim to takeover the system rather than
completely change it for the better. This shows how revolution have become a part of feeding the
system they try to fight against rather than destroying it. Lastly, with Wilford and the engine he built
being treated as somewhat the god of the train, we are introduced to the theme of eternal faith ( the
people faith towards the train which has kept them alive from the post apocalyptics ice age) versus
humanity s free will ( their ability to have a say in how the system is run and how they choose to live
their lives) ¬something that the tail section is deprived of

Youth Side Effects
Discussion
Given the weakness related with BPD side effects, it isn t amazing that people with BPD are probably
going to first look for treatment amongst youthfulness. In a longitudinal investigation of grown ups
with BPD, the announced mean age at which people looked for treatment was 17 years (Zanarini,
Frankenburg, Hennen, Reich, and Silk, 2006). A few clinical trials have been directed with young
people who have BPD and have been appeared to be compelling in decreasing indications (Chanen et

Elements Of Violence In Gothic Literature
Rough Draft. In the gothic literature, some stories have similar gothic elements in them that can be
used in different ways depending on the author. The elements that are of concern today are the
elements of curses and violence. The works of Edgar Allan Poe, Washington Irving, and Richard
Matheson will provide some examples of similar elements in their stories, The Devil and Tom Walker
by Irving, The Black Cat by Poe, and Prey by Matheson. The first element that will be discussed is the
element of violence. Now for those who have not read the stories that are being used, here are some
brief summaries with quotes and show the element of violence. In The Devil and Tom Walker by

With the help of technology, the world continues to advance rapidly and greatly. Transportation,

everyday items like medicine and school have been affected by growth in technology and new ideas

The Internet and space exploration opens doors for humans to expand their knowledge. It is common
knowledge to know that the journey to space is not an easy one. It was not until the 1942 that humans
were able to develop the technology to send a man made object into outer space. As a result of the
need for space technology many things came to be invented as shown in this passage, Space
exploration has contributed to many diverse aspects of everyday life, from solar panels to implantable
heart monitors, from cancer therapy to light‐weight materials, and from water‐purification systems to
improved computing systems and to a global search‐and‐rescue system (nasa.gov). Not only is new
technology a beneficial result from space missions but new knowledge and information is now known
about the galaxy and more. The information that has been discovered by these missions is available
through one of the most valuable resources in this era: the Internet. The Internet allows common

Example Of Social Judgement Theory
Social Judgement Theory
In the discourses of everyday human interaction, messages are crafted, communicated, received, and
responded to. Social Judgement Theory argues that how the recipient of a message perceives and
interprets a message, involves a process of judgment and effect that is based on the recipient s ego
(attitude) and anchoring position (opinion) about the topic. This process is key to the resulting
assimilation, rejection, or persuasion of that message. Where does this theory come from and how
does it work? This paper will explore how Social Judgement Theory was developed and is described,
along with providing an evaluation and example of the theory in practice.
The Development
Background
Social Judgement Theory is a theory of persuasion and attitude change. It was developed by the work
Muzafer Sherif and Carl Hovland in 1961. The central figure in the development of this theory was
Muzafer Sherif. Originating from Turkey, he is considered one of the founders of social psychology.
He is best known for his research on the autokinetic effect in the 1950 s, which describes the illusion
that a small and stationary pinpoint of light in a dark room actually moves. Using this same effect, he
applied it to the way we perceive messages and change our beliefs and positions over time.
Carl Hovland was considered an early communications theorist. He is best known for his work on
attitudes and social communications. He was a former Yale University Professor and

Reforming Inequality Research Paper
Reforming Inequality Despite dipping below ten percent between the late 1960 s and early 1970 s, the
income gap in the United States has climbed steadily over the last fifty years. From its low point in
1973, the wealthiest Americans income share now exceeds even that which they held in 1928, on the
eve of the Great Depression. Experts have pointed to several potential culprits, including the
underrepresentation of lower and middle class citizens in legislatures, the shrinking power of
organized labor, the expanding power of organized business, and a tax system that seems to
disproportionately favor those at the top at the expense of those on the bottom. These factors vary
greatly in level of impact and the feasibility of potential solutions, ... Show more content on

No matter how effective a plan may be at the former, if it cannot succeed at the latter it will never be
implemented. Convincing enough voters to support the tax plan will be extremely difficult, due to
both the high levels of ideological opposition to taxes and the resources and organizational strength of
the measure s primary opponents. Per an April 2016 Gallup poll, 61% of Americans believe that the
wealthy pay too little in taxes (Gallup), so Americans at least agree in principle that taxes should be
increased for the wealthy. Additionally, by emphasizing elements of the measure that could appeal to
conservative voters, such as keeping money from leaving the economy, candidates could generate
crossover appeal to both conservative and liberal parts of the electorate. The chief difficulty,
ultimately, will be overcoming the formidable organizations those with a vested interest in keeping
taxes low can bring to bear. Just as they did in the 1970 s, business and financial leaders will marshal
their extensive capacity to launch multi faceted campaigns (Hacker 125), exerting pressure on
incumbent candidates to distance themselves from the new tax policy and organizing opposition via
advertising, political action committees, and donations. To counteract this disadvantage, candidates
must mobilize wealthy liberal activists sympathetic to the cause of tax

Sigmund Freud s Theory Of Personality, Cognitive...
Sigmund Freud; 1856 1939, an Austrian doctor was one of the pioneers in studying the nature of
personality, cognitive development, and infancy, and also remarked how important the first years of
the individual s life are for future development of the mentioned characteristics (Coon Mitterer, 2012).
According to John W. Satrock behavior; as part of the psychoanalitic theories, is merely a surface
characteristic and a true and deep understanding of development is require to analize the symbolic
meaning of behavior and the deep inner workings of the mind, and as an example, how early
experiences with parents extensively shape development in diferent areas (Santrock, 2011). Doctor
Freud believed that all thoughts, emotions, and actions, are determined. In other words, nothing is an
accident: If we probe deeply enough we will find the causes of every thought or action. He also
believed that unconscious processes (not external stimuli) were responsible. In addition, Freud
theorized that the core of personality is formed before age 6 and a series of psychosexual stages, and
believed that erotic urges in childhood have lasting effects on development (Coon Mitterer, 2012)
Then, Freud formed five psychosexual stages; the oral, anal, latency, and genital. At each stage a
different part of the body becomes a child s primary erogenous zone, and each area serves a main
source of pleasure, frustration, and self expression. He assumed that many adult personality traits

The Theme Of Dreams In The Great Gatsby And Moulin Rouge
Within the films The Great Gatsby and Moulin Rouge the theme of dreams is consistently present. Baz
Lurhmann who directed both films used numerous filmic techniques to convey the influence of
dreams. A dream is an aspiration and fantasy that one deeply desires to attain. Dreams go hand in hand
with ambition and thus drive the characters actions. However, in my opinion, dreams may take on an
idealistic and delusional nature and thus act as unattainable and unrealistic entities. Thus this essay
will focus on the unrealistic nature of the characters ambitions and the consequent failures of their
dreams. For the purpose of this essay I will be discussing different scenes within the films and the

The Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, unlike the American s do not gather statistics, but Canadian
surgeons say they are seeing the same increase in plastic surgery among the millennial youth (Thomas,

teens are vulnerable to having issues with poor body image, and this results in feeling like there is no
other option other than plastic surgery. They want to look perfect and fit in with society. Teens should
not have to turn to operations to physically change their bodies just to fit in with today s beauty
standards.
High standards of beauty are causing girls to lose out on opportunities because they feel they will be
judged for the way they look and this leads to eating disorders, unhealthy diets and overall poor
health. In a world surrounded by celebrities and fashion models who look impossibly thin, a message
is sent to teens that they must look this way to be socially accepted. This message can lead to
unhealthy eating habits and self esteem issues. Approximately 75 percent of girls as young as nine

Transporting this much cargo requires the development of new technologies, and potentially private
sector contracting ( NASA s Journey ). Transporting so much cargo, even if some is reusable across
missions, isn t Earth independent. Long term, a different solution is necessary in order to sustain
growing human populations separate from Earth. This requires being fully dependent on the sun and
Martian resources for everything from food to fuel and building materials. This is challenging because
most forms of life are unable to survive in a Mars like environment without assistance. However,
research at Cambridge has found that Mars contains the resources to sustain cyanobacteria, which
could potentially make it possible to sustain other forms of life on Mars. Perhaps most importantly,
cyanobacteria can perform photosynthesis, which makes oxygen production possible (Verseux et al.,
2015). Verseux determined that sustaining a Mars crew for a year solely on Earth food would require
the transportation of an extra 29 mt of supplies, which is extremely expensive. The symbiotic
relationship between plants and cyanobacteria could be used to grow food, and cyanobacteria can be
directly used as feed for fish, which could be an effective protein source (Verseux et al., 2015). The

oxygen. Fortunately, as we discussed in lecture, Mars has large polar

at their physically best. Dancers train every morning and some evenings, stretching, doing technique,
some weight lifting and core strengthening workouts, and learning, polishing, and critiquing dances
(McNitt Gray). Doing all of those things builds up the skill not only as an individual, but as a team
working together to look their best when they perform.

As I ve read many of the opposing views, and asking people amongst my school, many of them say
dance isn t a sport, because doing a turn is easy, if someone based every sport by one movement they
do, then swinging a bat, dribbling a basketball, catching a ball would all be easy. But all of those
activities have multiple parts that make them function. In an article about high school football player
Chris Altonji states Every time I see Poms or De La Cru perform, I am extremely impressed by their
flexibility and coordination. Dancers clearly have to go through strenuous practices to be able to pull
off those performances. But that s just what dancing is, a performance, not a sport. Although, dancers
work very hard and do very strenuous things, all they are, are performers. He also mentions that dance
competitions, do not classify dance as a sport because they don t fit the requirements of the definition
which is that sports compete with two or more teams (Altonji). Altonji s opinion although agrees with

Isaac Newton Light
As a result of Sir Isaac Newton s experiment, humans are able to have an understanding of the light
color spectrum; consisting of visible light, colors, and electromagnetic radiation, the light color
spectrum is only a very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum.
In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton set up an experiment that required a hole in a window shade, a glass prism,
daylight, and a darkened room. As the ray of daylight entered the room, its beam passed through the
prism. The light therefore then displayed onto a further off white wall as a dispersing beam made up
of various colors. This sight led to Newton s conclusion that white light comprises of numerous types
of light, each being from a single pure color bent in differing angle degrees. Now using a converging
lens to block out some colors and refuse others, Newton continued his experiment. Consequently, he
discovered that the new visible colors had appeared entirely distant than the ones found in the natural
developing spectrums. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although all electromagnetic radiation is light, our eyes can only perceive a small portion, known as
the visible light spectrum. Other names for the visible light spectrum are known as the optical
spectrum of light and the spectrum of white light. We can see only a little portion of the spectrum for
the reason being that some parts of the visible spectrum contains wavelengths that are either too big or
too small and energetic for the human eye to comprehend. The additional wavelengths and frequencies
that are included in electromagnetic radiation and not in the visible light spectrum are basically
invisible to the human

Laboratory of Neural Systems, Decision Science, Learning and Memory (NSDSLM), also known as the Mizumori lab, seeks to understand the plasticity mechanisms within neural systems that underlie normal and pathological mnemonic functions. The principal investigator of this lab, and my primary research mentor is Dr. Sheri Mizumori. Upon joining the Mizumori lab, I have been shadowing Dr. Phillip Baker on his postdoctoral research project. He introduced me to laboratory research study and facilitated in the progressive improvement of my comprehension in basic neuroscience research. The initial study that I began working on with Dr. Baker was about lateral habenula s (LHb) involvement in behavior switching when presented with a cue. The LHb is a structure identified for its role in signaling negative outcomes or cues (Bomberg Martin et al, 2011; Proulex et al, 2014). It projects to dopaminergic, serotoninergic, and norepinephrine systems that are acknowledged to be important when switches in behavior are required (Robbins and Arnsten, 2009; Lecourtier and Kelly, 2007). My responsibilities in this study mainly included handling and training rats, recording of rat behaviors through a series of sensors and robotic doors around the T maze controlled by z basic, and evaluating data from training and testing rats in a tonal task. I also had an opportunity to contribute to the paper in accordance with my responsibilities. Furthermore, I had a chance to partake in the histology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Use of Manipulation; One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest The Use of Manipulation: One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest Throughout Ken Kesey s novel, One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest, the use of manipulation is a re occurring motif. Manipulation is defined as shrewd of devious management. Manipulation is put into context by how the character s use it. The first character to master it is the antagonist Nurse Ratchet. She uses it to manipulate patients to manage her mechanically structured ward. The other character is the (antagonist, protagonist?) patient McMurphy. He on the other hand manipulates people to help them grow or gain money. These two characters also go head to head with the power of deceptive manipulation as their weapons. She reached in the basket for the log book. Must we go over the past history? That triggered something, some acoustic device in the walls, rigged to turn on at just the sound of those words coming from her mouth. The acutes stiffened. Their mouths opened in unison. Her sweeping eyes stopped on the first man along the wall. His mouth worked, I robbed a cash register in a service station. She moved to the next man. I tried to take my little sister to bed. Her eyes clicked to the next man, each one jumped like a shooting gallery target. I one time wanted to take my brother to bed. I killed my cat when I was six. Oh, god, forgive me, I stoned her to death and said my neighbor did it. Posen s argument is supported by the belief that the basic tenets of realism provide a clear view of the security dilemma and its relationship with ethnic conflict. I believe the security dilemma in general is largely based in realist theory, and therefore fails to view international relations fairly. I believe that liberalism offers important insight into dealing with conflict that Posen fails to address. Realist theory believes that one states military improvements are undistinguishable as offensive or defensive, and are seen as threats to another state. Mutual agreements can be reached by ethnic groups to cooperate prior to conflict, which can secure their self interest. Posen feels agreements are often reached after conflicts have already began with cease fires. He also contends a cease fire only occurs when one side feels successful and the opposing side fears the result of continued conflict. Posen argues that a cease fire does not mean peace, and often comes too far along in the conflict, proving international organizations are unable to diminish the security dilemma. This idea further presupposes the ideas of realist. Realist are traditionally skeptical of the ability of international organizations to act as planned. Realist feel that states will not place their self interest the hands of other countries. I contend that international organizations can play a major role in ameliorating conflict between ethnic groups. If an international organization, acting as a mediating third party, can take steps to clear misperceptions between competing groups, conflict can be avoided. Also international organizations provide other countries the opportunity to take collective action. Posen argues that strong group identity and military power are viewed always as threats by ... If Aldosterone production falls, there isn t enough regulation of salt and water balance (as aldosterone is being lost through urination) triggering blood pressure and blood volume to decline as a result of the kidneys not functioning properly. It is an ability of an organism to control its internal environment, that is the composition of their body fluids, for them to survive fluctuating external conditions. Homeostasis is used to describe all the mechanisms by homeostatic control. Maintenance of stability requires control systems capable of detecting any deviation from the usual and making the necessary adjustments to return it to its normal condition. Control mechanism also has detectors (sensory receptor in physiological systems) to monitor actual output. A comparator (sometimes called a regulator in physiological system), compares actual output with set point. It produces some sort of error signal, which converys information to the corrective mechanism about the difference between set point and actual output. In physiological systems, error signal is usually in form of nerve impulses or hormones, and corrective mechanism may include one or more effectors which restore the output to its set point. Gena Showalter has built a world which lets her show us a side to the human mind which we don t look at very often. This twisting and turning plot shows how quickly a person s point of view can change when we learn something we didn t know before. Characters are stuck in a world where there next life will be decided on which heaven they chose sign their allegiance to, and they are polar opposites of each others. Since this is a fantasy world there are some big differences with it from the one we live in currently. While it has its similarities there are some major differences with it and ours. Starting with the biggest difference there are three after lifes: the Troika realm, the Myriad realm and the Realm of Many Ends. Currently people today have no idea what happens when we die. Many religions have many different ways that our lives end. These versions are some variation on hell and heaven to varying degrees, others believe there is nothing or that our spirits haunt the world of the living. All sisters harbor an intense hatred for the state, but among them, two sisters in particular bear stronger differences than the others Minerva and Dede. Minerva is an adamant character whom delves deeper into the secrets of Trujillo and the coming revolution, whereas Dede s character shies away and lingers in the back. While Minerva and Dede both long to see the corrupt regime overthrown, it is only Minerva who jumps into action to oppose the state. Minerva, the most resilient sister, uses her audacity, combined with a desire for equality, to express her opinions and challenge the state, while Dede s reserved and wary self leads her to remain hesitant in public. When time comes for Minerva to attend one of the many grand parties of Trujillo, the lustful leader decides that she must belong to him, and makes an effort to entice her through conversations of keeping her beloved university open. Expectedly, Minerva is not in the least swayed by Trujillo s persuasion, and when he physically forces himself on her in pursuit of her consent to stay, she raises her hand in defense, and as if it had a mind on its own [came] down ... Social Judgement Theory argues that how the recipient of a message perceives and interprets a message, involves a process of judgment and effect that is based on the recipient s ego (attitude) and anchoring position (opinion) about the topic. This process is key to the resulting assimilation, rejection, or persuasion of that message. Where does this theory come from and how does it work? This paper will explore how Social Judgement Theory was developed and is described, along with providing an evaluation and example of the theory in practice. The Development Background Social Judgement Theory is a theory of persuasion and attitude change. It was developed by the work Muzafer Sherif and Carl Hovland in 1961. The central figure in the development of this theory was Muzafer Sherif. Originating from Turkey, he is considered one of the founders of social psychology. He is best known for his research on the autokinetic effect in the 1950 s, which describes the illusion that a small and stationary pinpoint of light in a dark room actually moves. From its low point in 1973, the wealthiest Americans income share now exceeds even that which they held in 1928, on the eve of the Great Depression. Experts have pointed to several potential culprits, including the underrepresentation of lower and middle class citizens in legislatures, the shrinking power of organized labor, the expanding power of organized business, and a tax system that seems to disproportionately favor those at the top at the expense of those on the bottom. Per an April 2016 Gallup poll, 61% of Americans believe that the wealthy pay too little in taxes (Gallup), so Americans at least agree in principle that taxes should be increased for the wealthy. He also believed that unconscious processes (not external stimuli) were responsible. In addition, Freud theorized that the core of personality is formed before age 6 and a series of psychosexual stages, and believed that erotic urges in childhood have lasting effects on development (Coon Mitterer, 2012) Then, Freud formed five psychosexual stages; the oral, anal, latency, and genital. Isaac Newton Light As a result of Sir Isaac Newton s experiment, humans are able to have an understanding of the light color spectrum; consisting of visible light, colors, and electromagnetic radiation, the light color spectrum is only a very small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. In 1666, Sir Isaac Newton set up an experiment that required a hole in a window shade, a glass prism, daylight, and a darkened room. As the ray of daylight entered the room, its beam passed through the prism. The light therefore then displayed onto a further off white wall as a dispersing beam made up of various colors. This sight led to Newton s conclusion that white light comprises of numerous types of light, each being from a single pure color bent in differing angle degrees. Now using a converging lens to block out some colors and refuse others, Newton continued his experiment. Consequently, he discovered that the new visible colors had appeared entirely distant than the ones found in the natural developing spectrums. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
