Carotid Palpation
Introduction
Most endurance trained athletes and participants in a group exercise class monitor their exercise
intensity through palpation of the carotid or radial artery. Heart rate (HR) is used as an indictor of
exercise intensity because of the linear relation between HR and oxygen consumption (Cotton Dill,
1935). The researchers of this study have decided to use pule rate palpation to monitor exercise
intensity because the procedure is described in many textbooks and it is common in various
exercise settings (American Collage of Sports Medicine, 2000). However most chronic
exercisers have a rapid recovery of HR following the cessation of exercise, and therefore carotid
or radial palpation could underestimate exercise HR. Also, endurance trained individuals have a
greater arterial baroreflex sensitivity and are more responsive to carotid palpation. Therefore, the
palpation of the carotid artery may unload arterial baroreceptors and elicit feedback reductions in
HR (Heidorn McNamera, 1956). The primary aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of
carotid and radial palpation in estimating exercise HR and the effect of carotid palpation HR in
chronic exercisers. The secondary aim was to determine the association between the magnitude of
reductions in HR ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However for the results to be more meaningful and valid, a certified fitness trainer should have
taken the pulse rates. One study looked at the ability of certified fitness trainers and participants
to accurately palpate post exercise HR. The post exercise HR obtained by the trainers was 134 +
/ 38 bpm and the participants obtained 140 +/ 25 bpm (Garner Wagner, 2013). Having trainers
obtain pulse rates could avoid any bias from the participants; in other words, the researchers would
know that the pulse rates are accurate and not falsified or

The Rome Statute
120 states around the globe adopted a statute, on 17th July 1998 what is now famously known as
the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court or simply put the Rome Statute . This statute
established the International Criminal Court (ICC).
According to the Statute, the ICC is not an alternative to national courts; each state has the
responsibility to exercise its criminal jurisdiction over those responsible for international crimes.
The ICC intervenes only where a given state is unwilling or unable to carry out the prosecution.
The United Nations General Assembly, on 24th September 2012, held a High level meeting on the
Rule of Law at both international and national levels, a declaration adopted in that meeting and

My Theory Of Change Experiential Pop On My Head For More...
When thinking about which theory to do for my theory of change experiential pop in my head
for more than one reasons. First reason, is this theory is the one that stands out for me the most.
Secondly, I wanted to research more about experiential theory, in order to form a better
understanding. Experiential therapy, is the type of theory that help encourage their client s to
become more aware of their hidden or subconscious issues through their experiences. The
therapist dose this by role playing and through imagery. Therefore, there are more than one way
for experiential therapist to help their client to be able to identify key issues in their life.
Furthermore, experiential allows there to be space for the client to open up and talk about their
experiences. By doing this it provide a safe haven for the client s to address their underlying
issues they have bottle deep inside of them. It also allows for them to have a place to share these
unsure emotions through their own experiences and how it had impacted not only them, but their
relationships with loved ones and or friends. Having this type awareness is vitally to this approach
and help them to further develop and grown from these experiences that provided them with the
opportunity to grow from them. The role of the therapist is, to help guide their client s to work
through their issues through the use of their experience. Therefore, as the therapist it s up to them
to provide them with enough space to be able to feel

Euthanasia Should Not Be Legal
What is euthanasia? Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is
suffering from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is
often known as a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia?
Voluntary euthanasiacan be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end
their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort.
While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill
patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? I
will show how a utilitarian would argue that the suffering endured by the ... Show more content on

But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this
context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal
charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s
life. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel
happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that
was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will
Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally
barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate
to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that
Louisa can show will that his life is still worth living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s
intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is determined to change his mind, despite the
happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will
gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes, 2012). The story is the perfect
example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to consider voluntary euthanasia as
an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written and

Biotechnology Controversy
Biotechnology is a broad term. Basically, it is the tools and techniques [opening] new research
avenues for discovering how healthy bodies work and what goes wrong when problems arise
(Siedler para. 1). It covers controversial technology and procedure, like genetic engineering and
gene therapy. It is controversial because it can affect everyone(Jeremy para. 16). As a consequence,
the development of biotechnologyhas been a slow, quiet progress (Kirsner para. 3) because society
may or may not recognize the repercussion of it. However, scientist like Smith a previous chief for
the Cambridge biotech company, Genzyme continues to develop biotechnology(para. 1). Because

Performance Enhancing Drugs Should Be Baned In Sports
There are many different opinions on Performance Enhancing Drugs (PEDs); however, they are
banned in every sport. PEDs enhance an athlete s performance greatly and unnaturally. They
improve a variety of things that will improve an athlete s level of play considerably. Although
these drugs are prohibited, some athletes still choose to take the risk and use these drugs; some
even claim that PEDs should be allowed because it allows the viewers see the peak of human ability
which is more entertaining. Despite the opposition, athletes using Performance Enhancing Drugs
are unfair because it ruinsthe integrity of sports, it gives other athletes a disadvantage, and it
unnaturally improves the strength of an athlete significantly. To begin, if athletes are permitted to
use PEDs, it ruins the integrity of the sport. Sports are valued by many people throughout the
world and there are countless young, upcoming athletes that are thriving to one day play at a high
level. However, if these sports turn into a cheater s game by allowing drugs, the dreams of those
hard working athletes who refuse PEDs will be at a disadvantage. To show, The governing bodies
that oversee drug testing, who hand out and uphold penalties, do this in hopes that one particular
athlete or group of athletes won t gain an unfair edge over another by using a particular banned
substance. Why? Because this would be cheating, and the mutual feeling is that cheating ruins the
integrity of sports (Hodnik 3). Athletes

Adolf Hitler And The Nazi Regime
I have read a lot of interesting books, but I ve never been quite fond of history books. However for
my American History class I read: People Who Made History; Adolf Hitler, and I have to say this
book was rather interesting. This book gave a lot of background and history to Adolf s childhood,
along with his military strategies, as well as his rise and fall as leader of the Nazi regime. This
book was incredibly descriptive, and passionately written, even though it was a fact based book
one really feel like they could see into the mind of Adolf Hitler. As horrible of a person he was, his
ambition was probably one of the most terrifying things about him. Adolf Hitler, born April 20th,
1898 was baptized as a Catholic. Hitlers father,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitler had a way with words, he was one of the best public speakers know to date, most said he
spoke with such emotion, he was one of the few leaders at the time that could really rally a
crowd. He was speaking to masses of people who were economically downtrodden after losing
the first world war. People during this era were looking for someone or something to grab hold
of, and Hitler appeared to the German people as such a trustworthy and upfront politician, that he
became their Savior. Thus this horrific man wormed his way into the hearts and minds of an
entire nation. Hitler deceived the Germans all along, realizing that he had to become popular, he
heavily abused his power. He began his plan with baby steps, starting by getting the people on his
side, and keeping them there. He successfully accomplished this by referring to them as comrades
and fellow German folk , this boosted national pride for the losers of World War I
. The German
people never feared Hitler they loved him like a brother or father. Even when they knew people
were being killed, simply because they were mentally ill or for some other imperfection, the people
were too blind to believe that hitler was behind it.
Hitler was bound and determined to start a second world war. He wanted to show the world
germany s superiority, he wanted to develop the ultimate race on earth, pure german. He would
achieve this by slaughtering anyone that didn t fit this criteria, which included blond hair, blue

Chest Wall Movement Essay
AS is a disease that limits chest wall flexibility through inflammation of the costovertebral,
sternocostal and intervertebral joints. Manubriosternal and sternoclavicular joints may also be
involved and although less important mechanically, can contribute to limitation of chest wall
movement due to pain. AS involves the axial skeleton first then the anterior chest wall. The
restriction of movement along with hyperinflation leads to decreased exercise tolerance, muscle
fatigue, limited aerobic capacity and eventually deconditioning. This will lead to decreased
diaphragmatic excursion, diaphragmatic weakness, trunk/core muscle weakness and a limited

Assessment of the entire abdominal wall, rib cage and breathing mechanics should therefore be a
part of every pelvic floor/pelvic pain evaluation.38 Thompson Patients with LBP have been found
to breathe shallowly during an active straight leg raise test. They also were found to have increased
descent of the pelvic floor during ultrasound imaging throughout the same test. When external force
closure was applied at the ilia, tidal volume increased and descent of the pelvic floor was reduced.
Therefore the synergistic activity of the muscles about the pressurized canister is necessary for
breathing, maintaining continence and preventing pain.35Hodges and Sap Pregnancy
The growing uterus during pregnancy changes the mechanics throughout the trunk. The diaphragm
can be elevated 5 cm. As the diaphragm moves superiorly, it lengthens which improves its ability
to generate tension. The widening rib cage increases the diaphragms radius of curvature and the
area of the ZOA. Due to this increased area of apposition, the abdominal pressure generated by the
diaphragmatic contraction influences mainly the lower ribs. The ribcage then elevates and expands
where it is apposed to the diaphragm. This is necessary in order to maintain total lung volume. The
infrasternal angle can increase from 68.5Лљ to 103.5Лљ by term.39,40 LoMauro/Aliverti and

American Sign Language Interpreters who Interpret in...
American Sign Language Interpreters who interpret in mental health settings have a unique
opportunity to be an effective part of the healing process for Deaf consumers by accurately
interpreting the information between him or her and their mental health physician and / or team. In
order to accomplish this, interpretersmust seek the necessary training to work in the mental health
setting, educate themselves about the various mental illnesses , understand the various demands
and controls necessary to function in this environment, and lastly, know how to take care of
themselves when they feel emotionally drained from working in this type of environment.
One of the re occurring themes throughout the readings has been the need for interpreters to have
the proper training for working in mental health settings. Interpreters can begin the training process
by contacting their colleagues who are familiar with mental health interpreting and inquiring about
their experiences and their training i.e. workshops, mentorship programs, institutions of higher
learning, et cetera. They can inquire about the physical and mental demands of working in a mental

Net Promoter Score Is A Customer Loyalty Metric
Introduction to Net Promoter Score
Net Promoter Score Defined
The Net Promoter Score is a customer loyalty metric that is used to gauge the loyalty of an
organization s customer relationships by asking how likely the customer is to recommend the
organization to others. It serves as either an alternative or a supplement to traditional customer
satisfaction surveys and is often correlated with revenue growth. NPS measures both customer
satisfaction and brand loyalty.
How NPS is calculated
NPS defines customers as either Detractors (actively warning against the brand) or Promoters
(actively recommending the brand) on a scale from 100 to +100. A quick primer in analyzing Net
Promoter Score:
100Detractors
50Poor score
0Average/good
+50Excellent score
+100Promoters
Ratings close to 100 indicate a large number of detractors to the organization, while scores close to
+100 indicate a large number of active brand promoters. Any positive score is good, and generally,
scores above +50 are considered excellent on the scale.
The origins of NPS
Out of a desire to understand what would stimulate and sustain an organization s growth, Fred
Reichheld and a team from Bain Company launched a research project that would help them
determine a means of understanding how customer feelings and affinities affect actual behavior,
beyond basic customer satisfaction surveys.
Working with data supplied by Sat metrix, Reichheld s team tested several questions to see how

Defining Socially Conscious Film Making Essay
DOES THE END JUSTIFY THE MEANS? HOW DO WE DEFINE SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS
FILMMAKING?
Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago)
whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. They determine this on the basis of whether or
not profits are made on a sustainable basis.
Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand too many people
willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to
what is produced.
Certainly, the indie doc economy has been impacted by oversupply, due in part by lower barriers
to entry created by myriad of technological changes, and an ever changing media landscape. But

Are we exempt from the social responsibilities that our progressive films champion because the
ends justify the means? The system is not working. And while it may be seemingly impossible to
change, this does not absolve us of our responsibility to critically examine a system that, like many
others in our global economy, which can be classist, ageist and exploitative. Let s look at the
elephant in the room constructively, bravely, honestly and in the spirit of discovery.
Before hearing the report on NPR today, I contemplated applying for the Ch4 BritDoc Fund. I read
the following in small print:
We cannot give you the level of funding that TV provides. On average, we invest (please define)
between ВЈ10,000 and ВЈ30,000 and the budgets our filmmakers work to are very pared down.
More often than not (though this varies from project to project) this means you will be expected to
put your time in for free or a nominal sum until the deficit is raised.
The text continued: When the Foundation invests (there s word again see the text of Dan Cogan s
well intentioned but misguided Toronto Film Festival speech in IndieWire) in a film we fully come
on board as Exec Producers.
Another funder, Chicken Egg, is also requesting Executive Producer credit on many of the films

Internal Controls Protect Businesses Essay
American stockholders have billions if not trillions of dollars invested in various publicly traded
companies throughout the country. With that much money involved, it is only wise that there be
control measures and safeguards put into place protect these investments from any unlawful or
irresponsible activity. Publicly traded companiesare required by law to develop such measures.
These measures are often referred to as internal controls. These internal controls exist for two main
reasons. One reason being, to keep the employees honest. With so much money and other assets
involved in business every day, the temptation to steal or misuse those assets cannot be ignored.

Internal controls are can be set up in several different ways based on several basic principles. One
very important principle is to establish responsibility. It is important to clearly identify who is in
charge and who is accountable for certain tasks. Without accountability, individuals will simply pass
the buck and avoid taking responsibility whenever something bad happens.
Companies must also set up physical control measures to safeguard assets. Several examples of
such safe guards are limiting access to cash through the use of safes and pass code protected
registers. Security cameras and alarm systems are also effective control measures.
Companies also segregate or separate related tasks and assign them to different individuals. This
makes it extremely difficult for employees to steal or misuse assets because they cannot
completely conceal their activities. For example, where I work, there are over 100 company
vehicles. Supervisors assign the vehicles, while employees drive the vehicles, and a separate
vehicle management officer (VMO) maintains vehicle usage records. If someone wanted to use a
vehicle in an unauthorized manor, they would have to somehow fraudulently obtain a vehicle from
a supervisor, use the vehicle without other employees finding out, and then conceal the use of fuel
and mileage from the VMO. The task is not impossible, but extremely difficult to accomplish. Using

Cogniative Biases And Donald Trump s Effect On The Media
Out of the 11 Cogniative Biases, the 4 that have impacted my life the most through experiences
are Priming Theory, Contrast Principle, Status Quo Bias, and the Loss Aversion Bias. The
Priming Theory nearly effects everything we do, whether it s listening to music, or watching

During the last election, it s safe to say even when you re not watching the news daily, we still
heard new stories every day about the canidates. As a democrat, I naturally was not Donald
Trumps biggest fan. I find that the Priming Theory plays a bigger role in who we vote for in
elections than I initially thought. We do not have to watch the daily news on TV, or read the
newspaper any more to learn about news. News is all around us, but the number one source
where I read my news is on my phone. I spend a decent amount of time on my phone and I come

Mass Killers
Yet again, a connection has been made just as with the types and traits of mass murders/murderers.
Many mass killers fall into more than one category on how they establish their motives. Again,
scientists, therapists, and psychologists have established that there is a psychological map in
connection to a mass murderer s motive. In Aurora, Colorado, James Holmes, at the age of twenty
four, went into a movie theatre, while it was playing The Dark Knight Rises, and commenced
shooting into the audience. After killing a dozen people and injuring many more, citizens
throughout the country wanted to know what possibly could have been Holmes motive for such

How Did Benedict Arnold Win The Patriots
Benedict Arnold was a patriot after all. He fought more battles for the patriots than for Great
Britain. He served the 13 colonies for longer than he served Great Britain. And he did defect to
Great Britain, but not for the reasons that we think.
At the end of his military career for the Patriots, Benedict was a Major General. He fought and
won 8 battles for the patriots. Of which included Fort Ticonderoga, West Point, and Quebec City.
Benedict also planned many of the attacks for the patriots. He only fought in 3 battles for Great
Britain.
His military career started in March 1775, in Connecticut where he was elected captain of the
militia. He served the patriots for 5 more years after that, fighting in the battles of Quebec, The
Cedars, Valcour Island, Ridgefield, and Saratoga. Also he marched 1,100 men from Cambridge to
Quebec. Although he did serve the British, he only served them for one year, from 1780 1781....

He wasn t getting enough money or recognition in the continental army. Other civilian leaders were
getting more recognition than he was, even though he served the patriots faithfully for five years.
Arnold did accomplish more for the British than the patriots though. He won 3 battles and had the
rank of Brigadier General, which is one rank below major general, in one year. In the end Benedict
Arnold did almost cost war.
So who is Benedict Arnold? A patriot? A traitor? We need to stop classifying Benedict as a traitor
and start classifying him as a man who made mistakes. But at the end of the day his patriotism

Frankenstein And A Modern Prometheus
MJ DeMarco, author and entrepreneur, related choices in life to hitting a golf ball. If the club is
rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges
further away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first
the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is
completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says
that one bad choicecan set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the
future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good
choice, ends up being a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in
Frankensteinor A Modern Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will
. The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like
fate for instance. In Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to
illuminate and connect the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge.
The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge
by forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in
Walton s first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley

The Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis
There are many factors that influence female attraction towards men, and many of them are driven
by women s menstrual cycle. Sexual attraction in females has been shown to increase during the
ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle, which is the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill,
1998). Evolutionarily, this time is beneficial because it would be more likely for a femaleto conceive
if she were more prone to attraction towards men during her fertile period. It has also been shown
that female mate preferences change across the ovulatory cycle. Men with particular attributes, such
as facial symmetry, are preferred during the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998).
This can be explained by the Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis, first proposed by Gangestad and Thornhill
(1998). Gangestad and Thornhill (1998) make three predictions within this hypothesis. This first
prediction includes the good genes principle, that women are attracted to certain attributes that
signify that a malehas high genetic quality (Gildersleeve, Haselton, Fales, 2014). This could mean
that a certain individual possesses genes that would increase an offspring s fitness and, therefore
the parent s fitness, or do not possess genes that would be harmful to an offspring. Therefore,
theoretically, if a female were more attracted to a male based on the male having high quality genes,
she would more likely conceive an offspring with that individual. This would, in turn,

Belstaff and Gender
If Belstaff was a person, it would definitely be an intrepid, tough and stylish man, who drinks the
best beer and loves classic motos and cars. There are several reasons why Belstaff is perceived as a
male brand. The first one is that the brand is intimately related to the moto world, and motorbikes
have always been a boy toy. Less than 10% of motorbike buyers are women (CBS news, 2012).
It is possible to see signs of moto lifestyles everywhere around Belstaff. In its history and its

Use of Attics in Literature Essay
The Phenomenology of Space Attic Memories and Secrets
Since Gilbert and Gubar s The Madwoman in the Attic, critics have assumed that attics house
madwomen. But they use that concept as a metaphor for their thesis, that women writers were
isolated and treated with approbation. In most literature, attics are dark, dusty, seldom visited
storage areas, like that of the Tulliver house in The Mill on the Floss a great attic under the old
high pitched roof, with worm eaten floors, worm eaten shelves, and dark rafters festooned with
cobwebs a place thought to be weird and ghostly. Attics do not house humans (not even mad ones)
they warehouse artifacts that carry personal and familial history often a history that has been ...

Attics make us think of history, interesting artifacts, old toys, books, clothes, linens, jewelry, and
other treasures but, most of all, of deep, dark, and significant family secrets. It was in the attic of
the house that I grew up in that, as a snooping teenager, I found the packet of letters from my
mother to her first husband. Her FIRST husband. I had never dreamed that she had had but one
husband my father. And had I not ferreted out those letters, I probably still would not know. Then,
that night, my father took me aside I m sure at my mother s urging and confessed that he too had
been married and divorced before he met my mother. Whether particular attics hide such secrets
hardly matters. What matters is that psychologically we believe that they do. In fact, attics
frequently house just the sort of information I unearthed facts that one is too attached to to throw
away, but which one very much wants to remain secret.
Before a discussion of attics can begin, it is essential to define what is meant by attic and to
distinguish attics from upper rooms. Not all third floor spaces are attics, because many larger
houses have and had third floor rooms that were normal living spaces, sometimeshaving bedrooms
and sometimes having a huge, finished room used for balls and other parties. Such rooms were
furnished, and comfortably habitable. Such is the case with a room that is often cited as an attic
that incarcerates a madwoman, the upper room in The

Google And The Google Search Engine Essay
Google s Rise to Prominence

Google it. Want to find out how to officially join Justin Bieber fan club? Google it. Want to find
out who Justin Bieber is? Google it. Not long ago, people had to go to the library to search for
information. Nowadays, people get their information from search engines through the Internet.
Google has become the new library to quickly access information. If a question pops up in our
head, we just have to Google it and we instantly get the answer. How did Google become so
popular and successful? The Google search engine became popular because of its superior
algorithm that produces quick and relevant search results. Google used its search engine s
popularity to capitalize using ads called Adwords and AdSense. As a result, the Google search
engine is the most successful and widely used search engine in history.
The Google search engine was designed by two Stanford University graduates Larry Page and
Sergey Brin. An article in St. James Encyclopedia of Popular Culture entitled Google summarizes
the rise of Google s popularity in society. According to the article, Google was initially called
BackRub, but was changed to Google in 1997; a mathematical term called googol, which is the
numerical one followed by one hundred zeros. The term reflects Page and Brin s mission to
organize a seemingly infinite amount of information on the web. In 1998, PC

Leper s gone crazy. When I heard that about Leper, then I knew that the war was real, this war
and all wars. If a war can drive somebody crazy, then it s real alright (Knowles 163). This excerpt
from John Knowles novel A Separate Peace is the realization from a young student about his

In addition, ...Leper looked up in anguish, shrank away from the ball, and voiced his first
thought, a typical one. I don t want it! (Knowles 39). When passed the ball in a game, Leper ,
who is not competitive, refuses the ball. This timid nature dramatically changes after Leper
returns from training. He confronts his friend Gene. It s you we happen to be talking about now.
Like a savage underneath. Like, now there was the blind confusion in his eyes again, a wild

The two theories I will utilize from this course in order to explain my patient s behavior are the
psychodynamic theory and the systems theory.
Theories to Explain Behavior The psychodynamic theory would explain an individual s personality
in terms of conscious and unconscious forces, such as unconscious desires and beliefs. In the early
20th century, Sigmund Freud proposed the psychodynamic theory consists of the id (accountable
for instincts and pleasure seeking), the superego (attempts to submit to the rules of parents and
society), and the ego (which facilitates between the id and superego according to the stresses of
reality) (Cherry, n.d.). Psychodynamic theories believe childhood experiences shape a person s
personality.
The systems theory would focus on the micorsystems, which are the interpersonal relations
experienced by the developing person. Amy s challenge will also be explained through her
mesosystem, this would be the linkage and processes that take place between two or more setting
containing the developing person (ST article ). Lastly through the systems theory Amy s challenge
will be analyzed through her macrosystem which is a societal blueprint for a particular culture. (ST

Everywhere there is a place where a person is lost, whether it is because of natural cause or it is

contrast, some characters hurt more from their pass send some of their counterparts. Irene, Gil

The Impact of Advertising on Perceived Gender Roles
The role and function of advertising is a debatable one. Most would argue that since it is not
intended to be a governmental aid in ensuring and creating opportunities for equality, we are unable
to expect such efforts to be made within this industry. Advertisers have the job of selling, to
persuade and increase consumption as to satisfy the capitalist s pockets. The play on social injustice
often associated with this particular industry makes it relevant to question it though. Male
dominance in this area is evident, but are we not even to view men and women as equal in terms of
being potential consumers?
As illustrated by Spurlock and this piece of research, it is extremely difficult to not involve
advertisement in vocabulary and certain approaches to societal understanding. The present branding
culture is apparent and it is close to impossible to not have an opinion regarding this matter, which
incidentally causes discussion and debate, which in turn furthers the word of mouth usage of brands.
The impact of advertising on perceived gender roles is quite evident, and with plenty of
consequences, some of which we might not yet have experienced the full effect of. It is important
to remember that with a socialized consumer identity, the choices we make are not individual ones,
but is initiated by the manipulative skills of others . The high extent of advertisement we are put
through on a daily basis makes it very difficult to reflect upon the idea of choices and individual

Power In Crime And Punishment Crime And Punishment By...
According to Foucault, power does not belong to the individual, but to the system, to the
institution. In his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon
mechanism, a mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual
individual in the role of the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power
over the observed. Due to the unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no
blind spots for the observed to hide in. The private space is replaced by the public one.
Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the observed never knows for sure if they are being
watched or not, as they can t see the observer (Foucault 200 205). Foucault further argues that this
system is followed by any government institution, placing the society under permanent observation.
Individuals might try to evade the system, but achieving liberation and freedom is not something
that anyone could do. Dostoevsky s famous novel, Crime and... Show more content on

Soon afterward, a patent on this process was issued to Marshall in 1960. In the same year,
Tsumura and Sato reported the isolation of a specific soil organism that would produce an enzyme
that converted glucose to fructose (Inglett, 88). By converting large amounts of glucose into
fructose, corn syrup was promoted to high fructose corn syrup, abbreviated as HFCS, one of the
sweetest and most widely used sweeteners available.
However, it took 10 years for it to be sold and available to the public in the United States: High
fructose corn syrup was first mass produced at Clinton Corn Processing Company in 1967
(Ettlinger, 56). Japan actually started using high fructose corn syrup earlier and was the first in the
world to produce them in limited commercial quantities that contained 14 16 percent fructose in
Japan during the mid 1960 s (Inglett, 93). Further research and expansion enabled the industry to
develop a higher conversion and the first commercial shipment of 42 percent fructose syrup took
place a year later (Corn Refiner s Association).
3
Constant improvements in technology allow products to be produced more cheaply and quickly,
which now make it possible to produce profitable products containing 47% fructose (Inglett, 93).

competitive. Firstly, high fructose corn syrup, on a dry substance basis, has the same

English Language By Chinua Ngugi
II: In this section Ngugi speaks about how the English an imperialistic language that belongs to
Europe dominates the local languages in the post colonial Africa. He asks to the reader that how
did people become to be so feeble towards the claims of their languages on them and so aggressive
in their claims on other languages, particularly the languages of their colonization. It is worth
mentioning the words spoken by Chinua Achebe, is it right that a man should abandon his mother

Ngugi refers to the 1962 African writer s conference at Makerere University College in Kampala,
Uganda: A Conference of African Writers of English Expression. Excluding writers who wrote in
African tongues, it proceeded to discuss questions of what African literature is or could be, while
accepting that it must be in English. This cruel poisonous paradox is summed up this way: The

The SME Competitiveness Model
III COMPETITIVENESS MODEL:
As Engineering colleges are small organizations, they can be compared to a Small and Medium
Enterprise (SME). Hence the SME competitiveness model is employed here in this study. [16] The
modified SME model is presented in Fig 1. Apart from competencies of management and principal,
there are institutional capabilities representing potential of the college, scope representing external
environment, process dimension representing efficiency of resource utilization, and the
performance.
Competitive scope, institutional capabilities and competencies of top management together
constitute the potential dimension. And teaching learning is the main aspect of process dimension.
The management needs to create capabilities, scope and set objectives for the institute. These
processes are depicted as the three tasks. Once these tasks are performed efficiently, the institute
starts performing. A good performance builds an image to the institute. A consistent long term
performance enhances the image of the institute. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Discretion In Police Discretion
According to Dempsey et al (2016), Discretion means the availability of a choice of options or
actions one can take in a situation (p. 142).
An example of when police discretion was not used in a controlled and regulated manner was
when Mr. Samuel Dubose was shot and killed on July 19, 2015, over his front license plate
missing on the vehicle he was driving. Mr. Dubose was driving just south of University of

truth of what really happened that day. In the video, the officer is asking Mr. Dubose repeatedly

1932 Social Melodrama I Was Born But Analysis
In Yasijuro Ozu s 1932 social melodrama, I Was Born But..., it s use of mise en scene works
well to describe the characters lives at home, as well as the tone of an economically depressed
Japan. As a slice of life movie, one scene stands out between separating Yoshi, the father, and his
co workers. While the camera pans across an office of yawning workers, Yoshi is patiently
waiting at his desk for something, like being called into his boss office. During his discussion
with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the
suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office
employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing.
In this scene Ozu does a very good job of showing the similarities between the children and the
adults that work every day they do. While the adults are struggling in... Show more content on

Yoshi s wife stays at home as a housewife, while his children go to school for an education. Because
the movie wants to emphasize its relatability to the public at the time, it is not very dramatic and
has very simple camera angle and cuts. Most people have similar looks, children all in school
wear uniforms, and the men wear suits and ties. Only three certain characters have distinct
works, the teacher, who is very clean cut and put together much better than the salarymen. And
Mr. Iwasaki, who is covered in film and smoking a cigar, while his employees outside are smoking
on their own rolled cigarettes. Ozu had made the appearance of Mr. Iwasaki something less
professional because he was intended to be a relatable character, like Yoshi, but to still separate
them monetarily. Mr. Iwasaki is a professional man in a position of power, he can afford to have a
film hobby, smoke cigars, and to be able to have his own driver and

They may have some good long term prospects that they can borrow against to meet their current
obligations. Overall, liquidity is not a strength for Walmart due to both low quick ratio and
current ratio. Asset management In 2011, Walmart s inventory turnover was 11.62 and the
industry average was 10.4(stock analysis). It s fixed asset turnover was 3.88 and the industry
average was 3.56, and it s total asset turnover was 2.34 and the industry average was 1.56(Stock
analysis). The values calculated for all three ratios mentioned all resulted in substantially different
values in a positive way (Appendix B). Historically the values of each ratio have maintained
relatively constant, which in this case is not a weakness. Asset management is a strength for
Walmart, which ultimately means that they are maintaining their assets in the correct manner in
order to have an efficient way of business. Debt Management In 2011, Walmart s debt to equity
ratio was that of 72.75 while the industry average was 55 and it exceeded the range of
comparability by a significant amount(Stock analysis)(Appendix B). The debt to equity ratio
indicates how much debt a company has for every dollar of shareholders equity. Walmart s value
of 72.75 is high especially when considering the trend for the past three years. One reason for
Walmart s high debt to equity ratio could be that they have been aggressive in financing their
growth with

Case Study 2 – †Will the steel companies develop global...
Case Study 2 Will the steel companies develop global strategies?
Questions
1.
In the 20 years to 2000, the world s 40 largest steel companies made cumulative losses before tax
of US$10 billion, in spite of investing around US$75 billion in new capital equipment. In the
following five years, profitability increased but the return on capital was still low (...) . What
were the reasons for this trend? The first factor that I will appoint is a political/legal issue,
according to PESTLE analysis, and consists in the fact of some of the steel companies were
subsidised by their respective governments, which are not worried about making profits. Besides
this, individual nations or groups of nations had set up trade barriers to ... Show more content on

Finally, I could also mention that this was a value destroying industry, since the cost pressure was
high but with the lower prices of steel, the companies had difficulties to pass the impact of the costs
to the customers. So, from my perspective, these are the main trends in the strategic environment
that have influenced steel company profits over the past few years. Nevertheless, the fact that most
steel companies operate largely within their national or regional markets, adapting their strategies
only to them, was, obviously, the primary aspect that contributed for the worsening of the situation.
2. Arcelor Mital, the first largest steel company of the world, on the date the article was written,
arose from the merger between the UK/Indian based company Mital and the French and

The Global Positioning System ( Gps )
Blame It On...
Have you ever planned a trip and used a global positioning system (GPS), to give you directions
on how to get where you were going? The global positioning system would show you where your
current location was and then it would pinpoint the destination you are trying to get to. The
global positioning system would then give you different routes you could take, and give you an
estimated time on how long each route could possibly take. Think of fate like the different
routes you are given on your global positioning system. You have a bunch of options, but they all
lead you to the same destination. When dealing with fate, it may seem like you are in control of
your life, and that you can make decision for yourself, but in the end you cannot escape your fate.
The Greeks believed in the power of the Gods and of fate. The Merriam Webster Dictionary
defines fate as the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a
supernatural power (fate). The Greeks also believed that fate was a pre determined phenomena,
and therefore was unchangeable. A widely known example of fate is in the Greek tragedy Oedipus
Rex written by Sophocles. Oedipus Rex suggests that people have little control over their own lives,
and that ultimately people are just puppets in the hands of the mythological Gods.
Oedipus is blind to the truth and reality of his own life. The blind prophet of Apollo, Teiresias the
first to tell Oedipus about his unknown fate and plants

From:Nicolas HardawayNH

Subject:Information about Oil and Natural Gas Extraction Industry
This Report requested by the principal financial investor, Dr. Maria D. Davidson, includes
information required to make an informed decision on whether or not to diversify into the Oil and
Natural Gas Extraction industry. The Oil and Natural Gas Extraction industry is involved in the
processes required to find and extract crude oil and natural gas. The Oil and Natural Gas industry
has performed well in recent years despite economic challenges due to the help of new techniques
and technologies that have allowed the industry to quickly recover after economic setbacks.
What are the Major Components of the Oil and Gas Extraction Industry?
Major Operations that this industry is involved in include the exploration and drilling of crude oil,
and the extraction of natural gasses. Once the oil and gas is extracted, these companies now are
responsible for processing the material to then be sold to industries that then either refine crude oil
or distribute natural gas.
Extraction
Traditionally, large drills are used to extract crude oil from the ground or in offshore deposits. With
these techniques, large amounts of crude oil has been left untouched because it was uneconomical
to attempt to retrieve the oil. But, with new techniques such as hydraulic fracturing and horizontal
drilling, it can now become more efficient for companies to go

  • 2. Carotid Palpation Introduction Most endurance trained athletes and participants in a group exercise class monitor their exercise intensity through palpation of the carotid or radial artery. Heart rate (HR) is used as an indictor of exercise intensity because of the linear relation between HR and oxygen consumption (Cotton Dill, 1935). The researchers of this study have decided to use pule rate palpation to monitor exercise intensity because the procedure is described in many textbooks and it is common in various exercise settings (American Collage of Sports Medicine, 2000). However most chronic exercisers have a rapid recovery of HR following the cessation of exercise, and therefore carotid or radial palpation could underestimate exercise HR. Also, endurance trained individuals have a greater arterial baroreflex sensitivity and are more responsive to carotid palpation. Therefore, the palpation of the carotid artery may unload arterial baroreceptors and elicit feedback reductions in HR (Heidorn McNamera, 1956). The primary aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of carotid and radial palpation in estimating exercise HR and the effect of carotid palpation HR in chronic exercisers. The secondary aim was to determine the association between the magnitude of reductions in HR ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Euthanasia is defined as the deliberate act of killing of a person who is suffering from a terminal disease, which therefore ends their pain and suffering. This practice is often known as a mercy killing. What makes voluntary euthanasia different from euthanasia? Voluntary euthanasiacan be described as a mercy killing made at the request of the patient to end their life in a manner that minimizes further pain and discomfort. While the practice remains controversial universally, it begs the question, should a terminally ill patient or a patient with a low quality of life due to chronic pain be allowed to die on their terms? But, the fact remains that euthanasia is still considered murder in most regions. Therefore, in this context, it seems that the utilitarian intent is overshadowed by the dark reality of death and criminal charges. There are limits to quantifying happiness or suffering to measure the quality of one s life. If one ends their life, then there is no practical relevance because the dead do not feel happiness or suffering (Singer, 2003, p. 529). Jojo Moyes wrote the book Me Before You that was later turned into a film that tells the tale of the once vibrant, charismatic, and wild Will Traynor, whose zest for life was altered by a freak accident that left him an angry, emotionally barren quadriplegic determined to end his self perceived meaningless, pain filled life. Desperate to save her son, Will s mother hires Louisa Clark to be his caretaker. His mother s hope is that Louisa can show will that his life is still worth living. When Louisa discovers that it is Will s intention to go to Switzerland to end his life, she is determined to change his mind, despite the happy moments, Will cannot be dissuaded. With his parents and Louisa at his bedside, Will gazes out the window of the suite and peacefully dies (Moyes, 2012). The story is the perfect example of a made for Hollywood movie that inspires people to consider voluntary euthanasia as an alternative to palliative care. The book and film are well written and ... People during this era were looking for someone or something to grab hold of, and Hitler appeared to the German people as such a trustworthy and upfront politician, that he became their Savior. Thus this horrific man wormed his way into the hearts and minds of an entire nation. Hitler deceived the Germans all along, realizing that he had to become popular, he heavily abused his power. He successfully accomplished this by referring to them as comrades and fellow German folk , this boosted national pride for the losers of World War I . The German people never feared Hitler they loved him like a brother or father. • 13. Net Promoter Score Is A Customer Loyalty Metric Introduction to Net Promoter Score Net Promoter Score Defined The Net Promoter Score is a customer loyalty metric that is used to gauge the loyalty of an organization s customer relationships by asking how likely the customer is to recommend the organization to others. It serves as either an alternative or a supplement to traditional customer satisfaction surveys and is often correlated with revenue growth. NPS measures both customer satisfaction and brand loyalty. How NPS is calculated NPS defines customers as either Detractors (actively warning against the brand) or Promoters (actively recommending the brand) on a scale from 100 to +100. Two accountants recently told me that the IRS is questioning (as they tended to do so years ago) whether filmmakers are hobbyists or professionals. Most obviously, one of the main issues facing our industry is supply and demand too many people willing to work for low wages in an industry in which there is too little demand in comparison to what is produced. Internal controls are can be set up in several different ways based on several basic principles. One very important principle is to establish responsibility. It is important to clearly identify who is in charge and who is accountable for certain tasks. Without accountability, individuals will simply pass the buck and avoid taking responsibility whenever something bad happens. Companies must also set up physical control measures to safeguard assets. Several examples of such safe guards are limiting access to cash through the use of safes and pass code protected registers. Security cameras and alarm systems are also effective control measures. Companies also segregate or separate related tasks and assign them to different individuals. This makes it extremely difficult for employees to steal or misuse assets because they cannot completely conceal their activities. For example, where I work, there are over 100 company vehicles. Supervisors assign the vehicles, while employees drive the vehicles, and a separate vehicle management officer (VMO) maintains vehicle usage records. If someone wanted to use a vehicle in an unauthorized manor, they would have to somehow fraudulently obtain a vehicle from a supervisor, use the vehicle without other employees finding out, and then conceal the use of fuel and mileage from the VMO. • 21. How Did Benedict Arnold Win The Patriots Benedict Arnold was a patriot after all. He fought more battles for the patriots than for Great Britain. He served the 13 colonies for longer than he served Great Britain. And he did defect to Great Britain, but not for the reasons that we think. At the end of his military career for the Patriots, Benedict was a Major General. He fought and won 8 battles for the patriots. Of which included Fort Ticonderoga, West Point, and Quebec City. Benedict also planned many of the attacks for the patriots. He only fought in 3 battles for Great Britain. His military career started in March 1775, in Connecticut where he was elected captain of the militia. He served the patriots for 5 more years after that, fighting in the battles of Quebec, The Cedars, Valcour Island, Ridgefield, and Saratoga. Also he marched 1,100 men from Cambridge to Quebec. • 22. Frankenstein And A Modern Prometheus MJ DeMarco, author and entrepreneur, related choices in life to hitting a golf ball. If the club is rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges further away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad choicecan set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good choice, ends up being a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in Frankensteinor A Modern Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will . The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. In Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to illuminate and connect the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge. The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge by forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in Walton s first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley 11) Walton ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis There are many factors that influence female attraction towards men, and many of them are driven by women s menstrual cycle. Sexual attraction in females has been shown to increase during the ovulatory phase of the menstrual cycle, which is the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998). Evolutionarily, this time is beneficial because it would be more likely for a femaleto conceive if she were more prone to attraction towards men during her fertile period. It has also been shown that female mate preferences change across the ovulatory cycle. Men with particular attributes, such as facial symmetry, are preferred during the period of most fertility (Gangestad Thornhill, 1998). This can be explained by the Ovulatory Shift Hypothesis, first proposed by Gangestad and Thornhill (1998). Gangestad and Thornhill (1998) make three predictions within this hypothesis. This first prediction includes the good genes principle, that women are attracted to certain attributes that signify that a malehas high genetic quality (Gildersleeve, Haselton, Fales, 2014). This could mean that a certain individual possesses genes that would increase an offspring s fitness and, therefore the parent s fitness, or do not possess genes that would be harmful to an offspring. Therefore, theoretically, if a female were more attracted to a male based on the male having high quality genes, she would more likely conceive an offspring with that individual. • 25. Use of Attics in Literature Essay The Phenomenology of Space Attic Memories and Secrets Since Gilbert and Gubar s The Madwoman in the Attic, critics have assumed that attics house madwomen. But they use that concept as a metaphor for their thesis, that women writers were isolated and treated with approbation. In most literature, attics are dark, dusty, seldom visited storage areas, like that of the Tulliver house in The Mill on the Floss a great attic under the old high pitched roof, with worm eaten floors, worm eaten shelves, and dark rafters festooned with cobwebs a place thought to be weird and ghostly. Attics make us think of history, interesting artifacts, old toys, books, clothes, linens, jewelry, and other treasures but, most of all, of deep, dark, and significant family secrets. It was in the attic of the house that I grew up in that, as a snooping teenager, I found the packet of letters from my mother to her first husband. Her FIRST husband. I had never dreamed that she had had but one husband my father. And had I not ferreted out those letters, I probably still would not know. Then, that night, my father took me aside I m sure at my mother s urging and confessed that he too had been married and divorced before he met my mother. Whether particular attics hide such secrets hardly matters. What matters is that psychologically we believe that they do. In fact, attics frequently house just the sort of information I unearthed facts that one is too attached to to throw away, but which one very much wants to remain secret. Before a discussion of attics can begin, it is essential to define what is meant by attic and to distinguish attics from upper rooms. Not all third floor spaces are attics, because many larger houses have and had third floor rooms that were normal living spaces, sometimeshaving bedrooms and sometimes having a huge, finished room used for balls and other parties. Such rooms were furnished, and comfortably habitable. Such is the case with a room that is often cited as an attic that incarcerates a madwoman, the upper room in The ... Most would argue that since it is not intended to be a governmental aid in ensuring and creating opportunities for equality, we are unable to expect such efforts to be made within this industry. Advertisers have the job of selling, to persuade and increase consumption as to satisfy the capitalist s pockets. The play on social injustice often associated with this particular industry makes it relevant to question it though. Male dominance in this area is evident, but are we not even to view men and women as equal in terms of being potential consumers? As illustrated by Spurlock and this piece of research, it is extremely difficult to not involve advertisement in vocabulary and certain approaches to societal understanding. The present branding culture is apparent and it is close to impossible to not have an opinion regarding this matter, which incidentally causes discussion and debate, which in turn furthers the word of mouth usage of brands. The impact of advertising on perceived gender roles is quite evident, and with plenty of consequences, some of which we might not yet have experienced the full effect of. In his essay on Discipline and Punish, Foucault presents his idea of the panopticon mechanism, a mechanism in which visibility is a trap. With little importance over the actual individual in the role of the observer or of the observed, the object of the system is total power over the observed. Due to the unique shape of the panopticon, there are no corners and thus no blind spots for the observed to hide in. The private space is replaced by the public one. Furthermore, as final evidence of total control, the observed never knows for sure if they are being watched or not, as they can t see the observer (Foucault 200 205). Foucault further argues that this system is followed by any government institution, placing the society under permanent observation. During his discussion with Mr. Iwasaki, his co workers criticize him for kissing up to the boss, by moving into the suburbs. Following this conversation, the camera slides the other way, showing all of the office employees busy at their desk, before abruptly cutting to the children in schooldoing the same thing. In this scene Ozu does a very good job of showing the similarities between the children and the adults that work every day they do. While the adults are struggling in... Because the movie wants to emphasize its relatability to the public at the time, it is not very dramatic and has very simple camera angle and cuts. Most people have similar looks, children all in school wear uniforms, and the men wear suits and ties. Only three certain characters have distinct works, the teacher, who is very clean cut and put together much better than the salarymen. And Mr. Iwasaki, who is covered in film and smoking a cigar, while his employees outside are smoking on their own rolled cigarettes. Ozu had made the appearance of Mr. Iwasaki something less professional because he was intended to be a relatable character, like Yoshi, but to still separate them monetarily. Mr. Iwasaki is a professional man in a position of power, he can afford to have a film hobby, smoke cigars, and to be able to have his own driver and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Overall, liquidity is not a strength for Walmart due to both low quick ratio and current ratio. It s fixed asset turnover was 3.88 and the industry average was 3.56, and it s total asset turnover was 2.34 and the industry average was 1.56(Stock analysis). In the 20 years to 2000, the world s 40 largest steel companies made cumulative losses before tax of US$10 billion, in spite of investing around US$75 billion in new capital equipment. In the following five years, profitability increased but the return on capital was still low (...) . What were the reasons for this trend? The first factor that I will appoint is a political/legal issue, according to PESTLE analysis, and consists in the fact of some of the steel companies were subsidised by their respective governments, which are not worried about making profits. Besides this, individual nations or groups of nations had set up trade barriers to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, I could also mention that this was a value destroying industry, since the cost pressure was high but with the lower prices of steel, the companies had difficulties to pass the impact of the costs to the customers. So, from my perspective, these are the main trends in the strategic environment that have influenced steel company profits over the past few years. Nevertheless, the fact that most steel companies operate largely within their national or regional markets, adapting their strategies only to them, was, obviously, the primary aspect that contributed for the worsening of the situation. 2. Arcelor Mital, the first largest steel company of the world, on the date the article was written, arose from the merger between the UK/Indian based company Mital and the French and Luxembourg based ... • 44. The Global Positioning System ( Gps ) Blame It On... Have you ever planned a trip and used a global positioning system (GPS), to give you directions on how to get where you were going? The global positioning system would show you where your current location was and then it would pinpoint the destination you are trying to get to. The global positioning system would then give you different routes you could take, and give you an estimated time on how long each route could possibly take. Think of fate like the different routes you are given on your global positioning system. You have a bunch of options, but they all lead you to the same destination. When dealing with fate, it may seem like you are in control of your life, and that you can make decision for yourself, but in the end you cannot escape your fate. The Greeks believed in the power of the Gods and of fate. The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines fate as the development of events beyond a person s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power (fate). The Greeks also believed that fate was a pre determined phenomena, and therefore was unchangeable. A widely known example of fate is in the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles. Oedipus Rex suggests that people have little control over their own lives, and that ultimately people are just puppets in the hands of the mythological Gods. Oedipus is blind to the truth and reality of his own life. The blind prophet of Apollo, Teiresias the first to tell Oedipus about his unknown fate and plants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
