The lateral rotators of the hip include the superior and inferior gemellus, obturator externus and internus, piriformis, and quadratus femoris muscles. The superior and inferior gemellus originate on the ischium and insert on the greater trochanter, helping to laterally rotate and abduct the flexed thigh. The piriformis originates on the sacrum and ilium and inserts on the greater trochanter. The obturator externus and internus originate on bones around the obturator foramen and insert on the greater trochanter.
